Another hard day of work went by, where she sat all day going through files and making coffee for her not so sober boss. She hated this job, she really did. But there was no way she was going to admit her uncomfortable and boring position. She knew her boss stared at the back of her head all day, trying to find what may be lurking in there. But she would never know. Because Liz already knew her plan. She wasn’t blind, and certainly wasn’t dumb. Her not so sober boss, was actually quite sober. Liz had seen people when they were drunk at the Crash Down and mostly over the summer, and her boss was not even close. She could see the slime that lay in the back of her eyes, that she was trying to dig information out of her she could feel it. And she did let Tess’s name slip. But Liz could give a damn, if she died, Liz would not pity her. Hate was indeed a strong word, so it was only the right thing to use it, because that was how strong Liz loathed her.
She wouldn’t bring any of the digging her boss was trying to do up to the alien squad, because they had enough on their shoulders. And that was something that could make Liz stop in her tracks, making her feel the tug at her heart call. Max.
The name that made her heart jump, that made her back tingle with nervousness and so many other emotions that were unexplainable. She loved Max Evans. Ever since the day he saved her life, and he, he had loved her even before than.
Sitting on her balcony that night she took her journal out, something she had done in a very long time, and took a look inside to read, tonight was not the night to write, it was a night she should reflect. Taking a look at her words in the journal she felt herself shudder

In his eyes..........I was beautiful....

She thought to herself, that's because he loved you. How could he love her. She wasn’t perfect, she wasn’t beautiful. She would stare into the mirror almost everyday and remind herself, this was as good as it was going to get, no change was going to happen. But for some unexplainable reason, Max, a boy that grew into a man, to fast for his own good, who was undeniable gorgeous, and perfect in every way, wanted her. And only her. She couldn’t explain his reasoning, but he couldn’t either so that hits two birds with one stone. She couldn’t lie to herself either. If she were to say she didn’t think about him and his eyes, and everything else about him, it would be lying. And everyone knew she was a terrible liar.

The next day at the Crash Down, Liz had decided she was going to take work of for a day, she needed it. Her boss was watching her twenty four seven. Liz was now at full alert of anything that may happen. That’s how it goes when someone watches you until you can actually feel the eyes burning holes into the back of your head, trying to dig out information. But the weird thing was that, Liz could literally feel her trying to pry herself into Liz’s head, but Liz fought it, always falling into a chair soon after feeling nauseous. She always tried to tell herself it was a cold or something, but Liz knew whether she admitted or not, he boss was a skin. She knew she should tell Max, but she couldn’t bring herself to do so.

“ Sweet Chica, you look like shit, Did you get any sleep last night?” Maria asked her as she took a seat across from her at the booth as Liz silently read a book. Liz set it down feeling the constant throb in her head she had been having since yesterday start to increase with volume. She start to massage her throbbing temples and looked at the table through slits of her eyes. She had been having these head aches since she had been fighting her boss out of her train of thoughts, out of everything that was kept inside of her head. It was starting to get worse, now the nausea was getting worse. She had actually vomited last night at least four times. It was like Whitaker was trying to dig into her head even when she wasn’t at work.

“ Liz babes, are you okay?” Maria asked again her concern going to an extreme. Liz was getting pale and she was obviously lacking sleep. She did well covering it up with make up, but she saw how Liz’s eyes just sat there in slits, trying to stay awake. Or was it that she just couldn’t sleep, Maria didn’t know. But she was determined to find out.

“ Yeah, I just have this migraine, and it’s throbbing like hell.” She said as she rubbed her eyes and closed the book in front of her taking another sip of her mocha. She looked up to Maria, feeling her piercing gaze on her to see her concern twisted face. “ Really I’m fine Maria, “ She said as she set her coffee cup down. She wasn’t fine. She was literally dying inside. She couldn’t take any more of the vomiting or the sleepless nights, they were taking a toll on her. She had to quite her job with Whitakers office, she knew it was only going to get worse if she continued to work there. She looked up at Maria said to hold on a second, as she pulled out her phone, Maria only looked at her and nodded as Liz dialed.

“ Hi, Miss Whitaker, yeah. I’m only calling to say that I can’t work for you any more, it’s taking a toll on my life lately. And, yes. Yes I know. But I’m sorry, I just can’t, um, “ Liz said drifted off as she rubbed her eyes with her fingers. Massaging her temple again. “ I’m sorry ok, I just can’t work for you anymore, Bye.”

“ What was that all about?” Maria asked her in a place of confusion where it actually overwhelmed her. She was seriously worried about Liz now, she looked sick, REALLY sick. “ Liz are you ok, I mean I thought you loved that job?”

“ No I didn’t actually. “ She said rubbing her temples, the pain was slowly starting to lesson, and she could hardly feel it anymore, but the nausea was the worst. She grabbed her stomach feeling the need to vomit again.

Then without notice Max came up from behind them and stood in front of the table and greeted them. But before Liz could say anything she had run from the table, covering her mouth and stomach, running as if her life depended on it. She didn’t even take the time to close the door in the back room. She just immediately started to vomit her entire system out from what it felt like. She wouldn’t be surprised either if she did, she hadn’t eaten since yesterday morning. Until she was actually done she hadn’t noticed the hands on her back, keeping her hair out of her face as she let loose everything in her stomach. She sat up wiping her mouth with the back of her hand and leaned against the wall closing her eyes lightly, breathing in and out deeply.. That had hurt more than the time before. Slowly as she opened her eyes she found the owner of the hands that held her hair back. It was Max. She wasn’t all that surprised either. She knew once he saw her running toward the bathroom he would fallow, with concern. That's what love did to you, whether you liked it or not, you always followed.

“ What a performance aye?’ Liz smiled slightly as she made the sarcastic remark. She looked up into his eyes, he frowned. “ Sorry.”

“ Are you ok?” he asked. He brought a hand to her cheek, cupping it lightly, looking deep in her eyes. She couldn’t let this happen, she looked away and pulled his hand from her face and shakily stood up, holding onto the back of the toilet as she stood. He tried to help her but she brushed his hands away. She didn’t want anyone's help. It wasn’t only Max. She could take care of herself and she didn’t want any help doing so.

“ I’m fine.” She muttered as she finally got balance on her feet. She looked up to him, his eyes catching hers, looking at her with concern, worry and fear. HE looked into her eyes, and before she knew it, he knew there was something wrong, once he had searched deep enough.

“ Liz, please tell me if something is wrong.” he pleaded to her.

She looked into his eyes feeling torn between her feelings and her own concern. She wanted to tell him, really she did, but she was afraid to, she didn’t want to make his life any more difficult than it already was, his shoulders had so much weight on them she was surprised he didn’t just drop right there. She battled herself for a moment, until one side of her lost, and she didn’t tell Max. His eyes fell, as well as his heart.
Liz and him used to be able to confide in each other, and comfort each other, but now if they were to even look to each other for just a slight nod of comfort or just to look, it was like Max had crossed the line. It was as if she wanted him to completely take himself out of her life. Max rubbed his thumb over his chin, remembering the conversation he heard between Maria and Liz and questioned it.

“ I just couldn’t do it anymore, I didn’t like it, It was taking a toll on my life.” she told him truthfully.

“ Obviously.” he muttered. He looked at her searching in her eyes for something, he didn’t know what, just something. “ Liz? Please tell me, I know there is something wrong, just tell me.”

“ I,” she began, her own tongue, her body part, which she controlled betrayed her, she bit it hard, almost making it bleed. “ Nothing is wrong don’t you get it. I am fine.” she said trying to convince him with a grin. But when she saw him close the door she frowned.

“ No your not Liz, you just puked. That shows that you are not ok.” he reminded her. Remembering those few minutes where his heart cried for her, he had never seen Liz’s face in such agony and pain in his life. He felt so bad, that he couldn’t do anything to help. Then looking at her face he saw it, “ This isn’t the first time is it?”

She shook her head and answered, “ Four times last night.”

Once looking up at him, she decided to tell, it wasn’t her secret to keep, it was killing her and soon it would be killing Max to, “ Whitakers a Skin.”
