For me, it was Liz walking away from Max at the end of Destiny. The day before they told each other how much they loved each other and then Liz walked from Max when he needed her. Of course, Max listened to Michael (when does *that* happen) and didn't chase her down. I think Destiny was the last gasp of Max/Liz's innocent love.
