O.k. I think I got the ending.

Jack died on the island. Hurley is the new Jacob. And Ben his right hand man.

The others left the island and went on with their lives. I'm gonna guess that Claire got better and raised Aaron, Sawyer and Kate got together, Richard got to grow old and then die.

Then they all eventually died.

And they all meet up in ... Heaven? Thus making the flash sideways a sort of meeting place for them all before moving on?

That's what came away with. Anybody else think differently?

I liked the way it ended actually. Juliet and Sawyer didn't end up together until Sawyer died. Same for Jack and Kate. Which is how I'm choosing to see this ending.

That's what it sounds like to me... although-i thought it was weird though- why did they show a crashed plane at the end? I dont think this happend- but were they trying to make it seem like MAYBE the plane with kate and all the others- COULD have crashed?

idk...

What I wanna know is... Who actually liked the series finale?

Raise your hands! :o

I kind of felt disappointed... to be honest :(

I believe those pictures were taken by Matthew Fox and were from the pilot episode. The plane that carried Sawyer, Kate, Claire and the others did take off.

What I'm going to assume happened is that they made it back as well and lived out their lives.

Ellie I agree with you 100 percent, I liked that ending, it was very touching and it was so wonderful to see them remembering, and all the characters back together..

BUT!

i can't help but to be extremely disappointed that they didn't explain the Island more! I mean we watched for years trying to figure out what it was and what meaning it had.

and all I got out of it was that it was, what? a "magic" island?

Maybe I'm a moron and I missed something,

I mean I understand the whole Jacob and the evil brother and he was the black smoke (his angry spirit) and why he wanted to destroy the island but what about the island itself?

Why did it have that light? what was with the polar bears in the beginning and the power to turn back time or to turn back the wheel and transport Ben to other places in the world?

is it just me??

Is anyone else confused or disappointed that the big question about what exactly the island was never answered?

or maybe it was and it just went over my head...

if so and anyone knows PLEASE fill me in!

I mean why did they see their dead people on the island? why did Kate see the Black horse from her past?

And where did that crazy lady come from who killed Jacob and his brother's real mother?

IF its just left that we are to assume that is some like I said "magic:" island with a life force in a cave that keeps it alive then that was a HUGE let down in my eyes.

If anyone can help me understand better please do ... Im so disappointed about this...from a show that was so smart with its crazy twists and turns all these years I expected much more.

Well, I should have watched the finale of The Celebrity Apprentice last night. It would have been more satisfying and unpredictable than this.

Seriously, as I was watching, I was just astounded by the lameness of it all. Just . . . WHAT . . . WHAT WAS THIS? This was an absolute monstrosity of an episode. It was a nightmare of an ending to a show that was once great. In fact, this entire sixth season was a monstrosity. Everything that I didn't want to happen fucking happened, and I still don’t understand why.

1. Jate and Suliet. For real? I was hoping and praying the writers wouldn't go this route, but I sensed in the last few weeks that they were going to, and it's a shame because it was so damn predictable. I'm already preparing my "Jeers" entry to send in to the Cheers and Jeers of TV Guide. These couples go against all the character development and storytelling for Kate and Sawyer. Sawyer is La Fleur with Juliet, aka: NOT himself. Kate is always second-best to Jack. And don't even get me started on the contrived, forced chemistry of Jate. Nothing about that relationship has ever been real or passionate. And let's be honest here with the Suliet: People were brainwashed by this couple. (And when I say people, I do mean Jaters, because let's be real here and admit that nearly all Sulieters are Jaters.) The love story isn't that amazing. It's just the fact that Josh Holloway (Sawyer) could have chemistry with a tree that makes it semi-more tolerable than other pairs. The way I see it is that the writers wanted every character to end up with another character, either romantically or platonically in love. Kate was the only option for Jack, so they just tossed Juliet and Sawyer together.

2. The lack of any Skate. I realized that I'm coming across as a very biased shipper, but hell, that's what I am! It wouldn't have been so bad if they had just acknowledged the fact that Sawyer and Kate had a palpable love story as well, but they didn't even let them talk to each other hardly at all in this episode. If the shoe were on the other foot and the writers had gone the Skate route (aka: the better route) Jaters would be giving the same outcry. It's just plain disrespectful of a large and devoted fanbase, and it doesn't do any justice to a cornerstone relationship of the show that existed for six seasons and produced some of the most memorable and epic moments. Would it have been so damn hard to at least show them hugging in the heaven-like place at the end? I feel like the writers were very lazy here and didn't even pay any ounce of acknowledgement to Skate because they were forcing Jate and Suliet on us to such an extent. Hell, even Charlotte and Dan got a moment! It’s a shame that, for all the writers’ talk of “letting the show write itself,” they sure as hell didn’t let the relationships do that in the end and opted for the contrived stuff instead.

3. Once again, the overt hero-making of Jack. I have never hated any television character as much as I hate Jack Shepherd. And it’s not just because of the Jate stuff, although that is a part of it because I always hated the way Kate was around him. I can’t stand characters who are so in-your-face as the good guy, as the hero, and that’s what Jack has been this whole damn show. He’s a fucking Gary Stu. His major flaw (aka: his “god-complex,” as Sawyer described it) ends up being the one thing that saves them all, saves the island. Fan-fucking-tastic. Now I’ve been accused of writing Gary Stus before (and I maintain that I haven’t and I’ll argue that if anyone wants to), but Jack is just a whole new level of Gary Stu. What the hell was that Troy-esque leap towards Locke? Seriously, it’s just ridiculous. And of course this finale was overloaded with him. As always, Jack overshadows the other characters, all of whom are far more endearing and interesting. I wish he had died in the pilot the way they’d intended him, too. Then we could’ve seen Kate be a more independent woman, the leader.

4. The everybody-dies-at-the-end thing. I still don’t understand all of this, and to be honest, I’m so pissed off right now that I don’t really want to. Ellie, I like your theory that Sawyer, Kate, and Claire did make it off the island and were able to lead normal lives. (Which comforts me because that leaves open the possibility that Kate and Sawyer could be together. I’d feel a bit more confident that this is what happened had Sawyer and Juliet not been all kissy-kissy in the flash-sideways/heavenly world. Because Kate at least didn’t kiss Jack in “heaven.”) Still, I didn’t want an ending where everyone was dead. I wanted to see these people live for a change, because for six seasons we’ve been watching them survive rather than live. Plus, I feel that this ending is too close to the “purgatory” theory that’s been floating around from the beginning.

5. This sixth season as a whole. Way too much focus on Jacob and MIB. They were interesting for awhile, and then it just got tiring. Plus, MIB was way more interesting. The bad boys always are. Jacob was a tool. Unfortunately at the end, MIB was way too easy to kill.

The only things—and I repeat, the only things—that were decent about tonight’s episode were Charlie/Claire/Aaron (this should have been the one and only relationship I shipped on the show), and Hurley/Ben awesomeness. Everything else was just a craptastic mess.

Clearly I have wasted six years of my life getting invested in this show. Six years down the fucking drain. I realize I sound hostile and bitter, but that’s because I am. The show ends at Season 4 for me. I could’ve shit better fifth and sixth seasons than what we got.

This is it for me. I'm not watching any Lost episodes ever again. I'm never visiting any Lost websites, except to check back and see if anyone responds to anything in this post. But then that's it. I'm so disappointed in the way this show ended, not just tonight's episode, but the entire season, that I can't even pretend to like it anymore.

Fuck this show. And that's all I have to say about that.

-April

OMG ...

April, you know I love you. *besos*

I have to agree with you ... way too much focus on the whole Jacob/MIB (Smokey) deal and not enough ANSWERS about who/what the island really is. That's what I was dying to know and of course, not one mention of it. I still don't even know what the frak the light was supposed to represent or how Desmond was able to make everyone in the Flash Sideways "see" the truth or whatever you want to it. Grrrr ... :x

As for the Kate/Jack and Sawyer/Juliet fiasco, I knew it would happen like that.
I F**KING KNEW IT!
I do think that Sawyer and Kate did end up together after they left the island, but dammit - couldn't they have shown a little smidget of that? You know ... a quick introspect of their lives off the island leading up to their deaths?!

God! As a whole, I still do love the show and sitting here hours after watching the finale, I'm still just ... SAD. And ANGRY that it became so predictable.

Final score for the finale - 2 out of 10 ... maybe even a 3 or 4 out of 10

Final score for the series as a whole - 7 out of 10

Oh, and for those still with questions, my best friend just sent this to me via facebook. Don't know how accurate/true it is ... but here it is Confused about Lost finale? Here are some answers!

Never have I had a finale question my own mortality. This show did it. I am happy the way that it ended.

Jack/Kate: That was true love at it's finest! The fact that they were somehow reunited in heaven touched me so deeply.

Jin/Sun: How I cried when they died!!! I was HEARTBROKEN!! They were kept apart for soooooooooo long and to have them reunite only to die was horrible! Their daughter was left alone in a world where she wouldn't know her parent's and that was the saddest part.

Charlie/Claire: YAY!!!!! I loved them together and it was awesome!

Sawyer/Juliette: They were together for 3 years and they were in love. They didn't have to pretend to be anyone. They knew each other. They were one of those lasting loves that was sweet.

I was balling at the end and I am so sad that it has come to an end. It was joyous though if you think about it. Everyone was reunited somehow and they were happy to see each other once again.

It makes me think that when the time comes you are not alone. You have people there to greet you and take you to heaven.

I have something to say about people who are biased to their couple... You can't always get what you want. I wanted Alex and Isabel to be together but they weren't oh well. It is a show. It's not real life! Jack was NEVER a hero... NEVER did he claim to be. Sawyer was NO hero and NEVER did he claim to be. He could've stepped up and taken the "Jacob" role but he didn't. Jack knew that he was MEANT to die on that island. He sacraficed himself. I love Sawyer, he was the one I would want and be done real good. Jack is the one that you could have a lasting love with. In the end both Jack and Sawyer offer something that the other lacks. If you fused them together they would be the perfect man.

I couldn't agree with ya more

I think it all could have been fixed by one simple little scene on the plane - or after they landed- you know just a freaking look between the two of them- and then that'd be all that needs to be said to know how it would end for them- i hate how they didn't show a little bit to what happened to the people who escaped the island... because- we'll never know :(

This finale was a steaming pile of hot, dirty shit. I'm so disappointed I don't even have the words to express it. If you were a hardcore Jack fan, you'd be hard-pressed NOT to enjoy the finale. His story was wrapped up with a neat little bow. But I thought everyone else got a crappy resolution. None of the big mysteries of the show were answered. And the sideways was the afterlife where they're all waiting for Jack, like the flock of sheep they are, to realize he's dead? I mean.. really? So much fucking FAIL.

Then throw in how Skate got absolutely zero closure or meaningful moment at all and I'm just livid. They deserved better than that. WAY better. It was the fucking SERIES finale. Anything would've suffice. A look on the plane. A hug. Their own flashes of recognition. God knows they had more romantic scenes and white hot chemistry than every fucking pairing in that afterlife shit put together. What a waste.

I suspected it was going the way of Jate. And I didn't really care as long as Skate's relationship was honored in some way. But they couldn't even get that much. That series finale was emotionally satisfying for everyone that wasn't a Skater. And Sawyer/Juliet is a fucking joke. I'm sorry to whoever is/was a fan, but I can't take that seriously. Sawyer ended up with the consolation prize because their fanbase was vocal enough. That was not the ending they intended for Sawyer and there's nothing anyone can say to make me believe otherwise. Damon and Carlton let fan reaction dictate their story and they're cowards for doing it.
