Intro

As the gang was in Las Vegas, things changed.

During their dance in the restaurant, Liz held tight to Max. She told him about Future Max after the whole Laurie Dupree affair. Liz never felt such a relief. The pain, the sorrow, the hurt, the betray. It seemed the weight of that secret vanished. One simple look into his amber eyes told her that everything will be alright. Step by step they will have the relationship they want. No distrust or betrayal. Just the both of them and their love, it was a new chance for them and they were willing to take that new opportunity. They were sure nothing could separate them.

After hearing what Liz told him the reason for her actions, Max felt more love for her than he thought. Max couldn’t believe her sacrifice of her own happiness to save billions of lives. He was angry with himself to put his love through this pain. He couldn’t believe how happy he was in this moment to have her in his arms. Max had the thought that nothing could separate them. Nothing on earth could apart them.

Michael watched Maria as she sang. He felt so much love for her, he- Michael “The Stonewall” Guerin- couldn’t believe that he ever could love this woman. Sure, he knew that he often screwed up and could be happy that she always returned to him. She was his everything. And he would do everything to save this love. Michael knew they could do it because they were already through so much that he would do everything in his powers to show her his love for her. He loved everything about her. He loved her temper, her outbursts and even when she yelled at him, he thought she could not be sexier. The sparkle in her eyes was all he needed. She was his woman. Period.

Maria watched her friends dancing their happy and content faces. Slowly she tilted her head and she saw the reason for happiness. She couldn’t believe that someone else than her mother and her two best friends would love her so much. He was the reason she was content. True he could be a pain in the ass but he was so damn cute when he annoyed her. She loved it when he touched her, kissed her, his way to show her how much she meant to him. Sure not everything was perfect in their relationship considering the Courtney-Affair but they found their way and now they were still on their way but their love would make it.

They were swaying to the music. Maria’s foully and smoky voice took the words to them. They looked deeply in each other’s eyes and slowly they entered their own little world but none of them realized the feelings for each other. The real feelings still were unknown to the other. They loved each other but it was family love both of them thought. They cared for the other, they were happy and that counted, right. There were no other feelings, they were like siblings and there could not be more.

Tess embraced the man she thought as a brother. There could not be more. There’d not be more. There would not be feelings that would go beyond brother-sister-love from him. She still was unsure. Since Christmas she has realized that her feelings changed regarding the men in her life. She loved one like a brother and the other not as a brother. It was more what she felt. Kyle and she had a great relationship, a platonic relationship. Time went by, the feelings started to change. A change she feared. Changes meant consequences and these consequences, she didn’t want to take. One consequence would be rejection. Would she take that risk now? Tess was too uncertain to give that thought a shot. But she found her ways to spend time with him, to have him close to her. That’s why she enjoyed such moments. Nothing could change that.

Kyle held her. In his eyes, she was so breakable, like porcelain. He loved her. It was that simple. He, a man, loved the woman who he was holding in his arms. The moment should freeze. Never letting her go. Telling her what he felt but he couldn’t. She didn’t feel the same for him. She loved another man. He was her “brother”. He was her only family. Kyle could never destroy that. He knew there could be more but the question was “Does she feel the same for me?” the fear of rejection was too big. He couldn’t handle it if she rejected him. So playing the role of the brother was his only chance to show her that he cared for her. And nothing would change that.

Like the others, they enjoyed the moment. They were swaying to music. They had little talk between their movements. They were smiling at each other. They were content in that moment. Of course, they had feeling for each other. They cared about the other but no one knew exactly how deep those feelings went. The one person did a great job in hiding that she felt more for him. On the other hand, he gave up.

Isabel always knew how he felt about her. She saw it in his dream during the heat wave as they were dancing. He told her to let him in that she didn’t need to be afraid. He saw her. That is all she ever wanted that a man could love her for who she is and not what she is. Of course, she was the Ice Princess of WRH. She belonged to the elite. Everyday she wore a façade. A façade she started to hate since she knew Alex C. Whitman. Sometimes she couldn’t believe that a boy had made it to see through her. She knew that she didn’t deserve him in her life. She knew that she treated him like a piece of shit in the summer of Destiny and afterwards. But she knew that no matter what that he would always be there for her, supporting, caring and mainly being Alex, her friend.

The time she spent with him was the best time of her life. He always made laugh, he listened to her and even sometimes, he sang songs to her. She loved going stargazing with him. Listening to his deep but smooth voice. Even his bad jokes were an addition to his fantastic character.

Isabel knew that she screwed up big time as she broke up with Alex. She wanted to be able to keep him save. Instead, she hurt him the most. Breaking up with him, keeping him at arms length and then to top it she flirted with another man in front of him; the list went on. After she told him that she didn’t want an relationship with another guy, she didn't know why she did what she did.
But it was all a façade she had to keep up. She wanted to change things but didn’t know how.

Alex always loved dancing. Especially with Isabel. Holding her tight to him. He knew it would be never the same again between them. He changed. After she broke up with him and the treatment she gave him, he just had enough. And after seeing that geologist at her birthday he definitely had enough. It hurt too much. Every time he saw her, he tried to approach her without letting his feelings getting the best of him but he couldn’t. You can change your mind but you can’t change your heart. And that was his damn problem: his heart.

Alex couldn’t take it to see her with that other guy, so he decided, he needed a change. A change of her. Leaving everything behind.
So he did.

He got the opportunity to go to Europe in a student exchange program. Staying there a month: going to school and having a host family. The chance was great and he would be stupid not to take it. Maybe he would meet a nice European girl. He went to Sweden. After the month went by, he wanted to stay longer and travel through Europe. Alex did his schoolwork via internet. So he stayed two months longer and travelled around.

Then the time came to go back to Roswell. Going back to his old life. But he wasn’t the old Alex Whitman anymore. He was not anymore the lovesick teenager who would follow her around and no more getting nervous or starting to stammer every time he would talk to her. Here he was the new Alex Whitman. A man who had confidence. It wasn’t bad that the European girls liked him. He met some girls but it was nothing serious just making out and that was it.

After his return to Roswell, he decided that he would go on with his life and stop chasing a dream. He wouldn’t stop being her friend because that was all he could give her now and nothing more. The hurt was too much before he left and would not take it anymore to be the one who got hurt.

Now they were friends. The one was content with that situation and the other wanted more but didn’t know how to fight the fear.

CHAPTER I

April 2001

Just two weeks after their return from Las Vegas, the eight friends were all together in Michael’s apartment. Three teenagers were sitting on the couch. Two other teenagers were sitting together in the love seat. Two others were standing and leaning against the wall. Their heads bowed down to have their own private conversation. The only thing that was understandable was their mumbling. The last one of them sat on one of the bar stools near the kitchen counter.

A silence surrounded them. That kind of silence told you something was going to happen. It was the calm before the storm, all human teens thought. It was getting pretty uncomfortable and no one dared to break the silence. Only four teenagers knew what would happen soon. Life would change. Their lives would change. That thought was in their minds for a few days. Soon, just one moment would change everything. Just one moment was going to change eight lives.

Secret glances went through the room. Everyone was observing everyone.

Deep in her thoughts, she forgot every other person around her.

She knew, this is it. It was over. No sitting together, talking to each other, no stupid jokes which made her laugh. It was now that she really stopped being a teenager with a so called “normal” life. In that moment as the thought crossed her mind, she looked at the others.

* * * * * * * * * *
The two standing boys again mumbled something to each other. No expression on their faces. Just sometimes for a few seconds, they wore smiles and then the smiles faded away.

He looked at the others. Then he looked at her, they were gazing into each other’s eyes for just a few seconds. Their eyes locked for a few seconds but it felt like minutes. He had this calm in his eyes and she had the truth in hers. Then she realized what had happened. It would always happen with him and no one else.
He knew. In this moment, he knew what was going on. Her eyes told him. It would always been her eyes which tell him what she feels and what was going on with her. He knew.
He would always know. Knowing everything. Knowing her. He knows you, she thought.

Then the silence disappeared. The silence which gave her time. The silence which presented a change. And suddenly the silence broke.

“You are leaving”, he stated in a nonchalant voice which rang to the other persons and all eyes were on him.

Alex said the words. The words Max, Michael, Tess and Isabel couldn’t say. He did. Why Alex, only one person knew. Isabel.
Well, everyone would expect a bombardment of questions but it was a silence that enveloped the teenagers. Nothing. It was just that moment as the words left his lips and his voice reached the others. A few minutes passed until someone said anything.

“Yeah, we’re going to leave to Antar.” Max confirmed. His voice full of sadness for leaving the ones he loved.

“When?”, was the only word Liz could choke out. The lump in her throat got bigger with each second passed.

Michael was the one to answer the question,” We will leave tomorrow night. Well, the Granolith is a space ship and we are able to use it so…we are going back to our home planet. And….” He stopped talking as he looked at Maria. His pixie girl. As he saw she was on the edge of tears, he hugged her closer to his body. He wished this moment could last, just holding her and nothing else.
He wished he could stay with her but he couldn’t.

Maria looked up at him. A small but sad smile on her lips “Michael, be careful so you can come back to me.” was all she could whisper before the tears started to fall. She knew this day would come. She knew and she hated it that now he had to go. Now that they were doing fine. Everything was good and then the Alien Abyss got the best of them.

“I will”, was all that Michael could whisper and hold Maria tight to his body. He hoped that she would feel the love that he felt for her. He just hoped.

“How do you know that it will bring you to your home planet?” asked Liz.

“The coordinates are programmed. You know, our people always hoped that we’ll come back one day. So, now we have the opportunity and we will take it. We have to. For our people. To free Antar from Khivar. We have to give the Antarians their lives back and a future. We are the Royal Four and it is our duty to be there.” Max said in an emotional voice, trying very to convince himself that it was the right thing to do. And with Liz in his arms it was even harder to stay strong.

They let Max’ words sank in. They were leaving it was that simple, thought every human teen. They were not only leaving the planet but also their lives. They were also leaving their families and friends behind.

“How were you all able to find your way to …hmm... your planet? And …and my second question is for how long did you know you can ..go?” Kyle asked the hybrids. He looked at every one of them. He still needed to understand what happened and would soon happen. Kyle looked at Alex who was standing next to him leaning against the wall. A calm expression crossed his facial features.

“Since three days.”was the response coming from Isabel. She said in a low calming voice. She never spoke with that voice and suddenly she did. She wanted to be strong, she needed to be strong. Isabel’s would never be the same and she accepted.
“Well, to answer your second question”, she continued with more control over her voice, ”Nasedo had all the time a translation of the Alien book. I think, you know the book. Uh, last week Tess went to her old home to look if she needed some things of her old stuff. And as she also searched through Nasedo’s stuff again and then Tess found it: the translation of the Alien book. The book contains our whole life, the reason we had been send and so on and on.”

They were leaving.

“So we still have twenty-four hours, almost. I’d suggest we make the best of it. We all know that this is a lot to take in and …God, that is so hard. I hope someday we will sit together again. I think, I speak for everyone of us you are the best what happened in our lives. I .. we will cherish every moment and memory we have.” Tess said to their human friends.

It was hard to describe what or how she felt. Just slowly, emptiness developed inside of her. She was going to lose her family. The first real family she had. And she was losing him.

Kyle was losing her. She was leaving him. It doesn’t matter how often he turn it around, in the end he would be alone like always. First his mother, than Liz and now Tess. She meant too much for him and she would go away from him. Kyle knew that he loved her. He wished there have been more but the fear of rejection was too big.

He watched her. He had always watched. He locked his gaze with hers. It would be the last time for a long time.
“Look the whole situation fucking sucks but we should do the best we can.”
That was the only thing Alex could say.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

It was time. It was time to leave. The night was chilly, more than usual. The eight teens stood in front of the Pod chamber. It was the way how everyone of them felt. The missing part made them feel less. As if life would be suck out of them. The pain started to take over.

Max held Liz in his arms. She clung to him as if he was her lifetime. Liz couldn’t believe that they got back together, they were going to be separated. He was leaving. He was a king. Liz didn’t really know how to feel. She felt numb. It felt as if her heart stopped. It felt as if everything in her life had ended. Her tears came. And she couldn’t How could her life go on? How could she go on? Time would show.
Max hated this feeling. He hated the feeling that he didn’t know what to do. Losing control. He was losing Liz.
All he ever wanted was Liz. He had her back but this time he was leaving. It was the same spot as she left last summer after hearing his mother’s message and their Destiny. Max didn’t know what to expect on Antar. He only knew life and love on Earth. He knew she would wait for him. He hoped to return as soon as possible one day. Then he would have the life he always wanted. It would be Max and Liz again. He would hold her in his arms for the rest of his life. They will be together again.

Michael was never a person who showed his emotions but now and here, he didn’t care. He held Maria tight in his arms. He whispered her soothing words in her ear. Michael wanted to take the pain away but he knew that it wasn’t one of his abilities.
Back on Antar, he would be the warrior. Once in his former life, he was a warrior and now in his life he was going to be a warrior. It did not matter that he wasn’t ready. He had to be.

She cried in his arms and the only thing he could do was to hold Maria. He held her to show her that she was this special woman in his life; he loved her.
She clung to him. Truth betold, she wanted him to stay but he found what he always wanted: a way home. But where would it leave Michael and Maria? Maria hoped and prayed that he would return to her. What to could she do when the day would come? She loved him. She needed him as he needed her. Maria was scared for Michael, for her and for the other members of the Pod Squad. She was afraid. Maybe it was here the last time that she saw him. There were so many thoughts that she had to force herself pushing theme away and cherish the last moments with Michael Guerin.

Kyle was going to lose a part of his little family. Tess was more than family to him. The first time he saw her, he was attracted to her. In his eyes, she had that something that made a woman so appealing. Her eyes, her smile, her humour. He could talk with her and to her. She understood him. She was his ray of hope that a woman could love him but even she was going to leave him. Kyle Valenti was in love with Tess Harding and she would never know. There were too many emotions he felt and he was keeping them to himself.

Tess didn’t know what was wrong with her. She felt a tight pain in her chest when she thought about leaving her Valenti-Men. For a year she knew them and almost nine months she lived with them under the same roof. But for a short time everything changed. She felt more. She felt more for him. Kyle became from a potential big brother to an attractive boy who got her attention. It was the dance they shared in Las Vegas and for a very long time she was happy and content. He made Roswell her home. But it was impossible to admit that she liked him a lot. It couldn’t be. It shouldn’t be.
It was over. And both knew it. No one knew how long they would be go. If there was a way to come back.

Isabel didn’t know what to think. She didn’t know how to feel. She hoped that one day that they were able to get home. But where was home? Was it on Earth with Diane and Philipp Evans? Was it on a planet she didn’t know? It was too hard to think about it. The only answer she had was that she was leaving her family to be with another family. She was leaving. She was leaving him. Isabel knew that she wouldn’t see Alex Whitman for a long time. She already left Alex a long time ago but not to see his smiling face hurt too much. Alex was always there for her. He listened to her but she did nothing for him. He was her friend although she wanted more but she couldn’t. Her insecurities got the best of her. The fear of becoming Vilandra got the best of her. The fear of betraying pushed her too far and in the end, she hurt the one she loved. Isabel caused him pain. Her insecurities provided her from a happy life with the man she wanted. Never stopped loving him. But it was too much for her to see that a human being could feel so much love for her. It scared her. And now, here she was standing right at the place where she was “born” and here she was going to leave standing at the place where a part of her was going to die.

Isabel stole little glances at Alex. She loved everything about him. It was his humour, his compassion, his love, his smile and his eyes and more. She loved his eyes. They always showed what he felt. How she longed to just being in his arms and he would telling her that everything would be all right. It was a longing she would always feel.

Alex stood next to Kyle. He observed his surroundings. He observed the two couples in front of him. He knew he didn’t have that and a sadness washed over him. He wanted to be able to tell Isabel that everything will be alright but how.
Even he didn’t know what would expect them. He loved her once as he was watching her from afar. He loved her again as he learned who she really was. As she showed him herself, as she had let him in. Now he was her friend. It was enough, it really was. What else could he do? It was too hard to love her so he stopped, so he left and now she was leaving. Isabel would be in his heart forever but he wanted a life for him. He didn’t want the pain, the heartache and he didn’t want to be hurt again. He didn’t want it. He realized it a long time ago. Isabel Evans was going to leave and he let her.

“It is time that we go if we stay here longer it will get harder to let go. I just wanted to say you are my family and that I will miss you. I really hope that one day we will come back and meet again.,” said Michael to the group of friends. The reality crashed down on them. They said good byes. The human boys instructed the hybrid boys to take care of the girls and Alex and Kyle were instructed to take care of Liz and Maria. The girls did the same. They exchanged their hugs (even the boys), a few words were exchanged. And then it was time. With one final look at their friends the four aliens entered the Pod chamber. The remaining four human teens climbed down the mountain. Alex held Liz and Kyle held Maria. Both boys couldn’t stop the tears which their female friends cried but they were there for them.
It was five minutes later after climbing down the way to the chamber that the granolith took off.

She’s gone.

AN: I wanted to thank for the feedback. I hope some questions will be answered.

CHAPTER II Part 1

Three years ago, the aliens left. They left their families, they left their friends, and they left their loves. Three years ago, the aliens left the only home they knew. There was a safety; they now longed for to have. It didn’t matter how they would get it, they just needed it. It was late on Antar. For so many decades, the planet was in a brutal and very bloody war. The teens knew it wouldn’t be an easy mission to free the planet but they had never suggested that it would be that hard. For three years, she listened to the explosions in the background day and night. When she was on the battlefield with her brothers, she heard the cries and screams of the soldiers. She heard the pain; she saw the death of so many people: men, women and children. It was her choice to go. It was her choice to leave. In the end how much could she still take. They were all so young and every day they face such a cruelty. Every day they took part in it. Every day in the last three years, they lost more of their innocence.

She dream walked him a year but the more time passed the more Isabel couldn’t take it anymore to be away from him. It hurt too much to see him but not being able to be with him. She missed him but she lost the right to enter his dreams a long time ago. She let him go. It hurt more than she expected but it was for the best. She couldn’t take it. Isabel hoped that she would see him one day again and it would be a happy reunion. Until the day would come, she had to wait.

Further five years had passed and the aliens were able to free their planet of the tyrannical Khivar. They were able to defeat him. It was now their task to build a democracy. It was decided by the Royal Four and the remaining members of the royal parliament to establish a democracy so the four aliens can return to earth. They declared to give up their royal status. The problem was, they didn’t know how long it would take to establish the new government. Eight long years ago, they left Earth. Every one of them wanted to go back. They wanted the life they deserved having it with the ones they loved. Time went slow on Antar. It took too much time to establish the democracy.

It was an unusual hot night in the capital city of Antar, it was a quiet night and there was no noise heard in the royal palace. Isabel loved those nights. She would spend the night out on her balcony and just looking at the stars. During those nights, she thought about the last eight years and she would always try to figure out what the others were doing on Earth. How their lives had turned out? Were they happy? Do they all have new loves? Those questions didn’t let her get any sleep. She wanted to know how her parents were. The thoughts about the others were the only thing kept her going.

They left ten years ago. It was a long time. Today they were going back. Going back to their families, back to their friends, back to the only place they called home.
They didn’t know what to expect. Their friends, would they be happy to see them again, what about their families and how much life on Earth changed. It was a fear they felt, which they even didn’t feel in the last ten years or when they had to face a battle. They were scared. They felt like little kids. In that moment, they entered the ship that would take them back to their known normality. They can have normal and they wanted it.

**********************************************
“What are you thinking about?” the voice startled her. She didn’t know what to say. Her mind was racing with thoughts of the last ten years. The good and the bad, her fears, her hope, her wishes etc. For the last ten years, her mind often drifted off to the day they left Earth.

“I’m thinking about nothing in particular.”
________

The four aliens entered the Pod Chamber, they still couldn’t believe what was about to happen soon. They were going to leave. They entered the Granolith chamber. In awe, they looked at the alien artefact. Since they had found the Granolith, they couldn’t believe that it was a spaceship. It was going to take them home. A home they never had known. It was hard to imagine what they had to expect. Somehow, all four knew they lost their innocence the moment they entered the chamber.

“Can you believe that we are going back? I mean, it’s what we always wanted and now it just feels weird to leave. At least we are not alone. Do you really think it will be alright when we’re up there?”

“I know, now it just feels wrong or whatever that we leave but I think we’re doing the right thing. It is our duty to return and help our planet and people. Like you said we’re together and as long as we are together nothing can hurt us. I know it hurts to leave them behind but I promise that we will come back as soon as soon as we can.” Michael replied Tess’ question.

They still had five minutes until the granolith would take off. With every passing second, the anxiety grew. Three minutes were left.

“It’s too soon. We aren’t ready, yet, to go back. Do you know how funny this all is, Nasedo had all the time translation and everything he needed to take us back was the granolith but he didn’t knew where it was. Then he died and we found the granolith and we didn’t know what it was or what to do and now we’re here. I ..I just think it’s too soon, right. We’re still kids…”

“Izzy relax. Everything is going to be fine. We’re going together and we’ll stay together, no matter what. Come on, it ‘s time.” With that said to his sister, he instructed the other two aliens to get ready. As they entered the granolith, it was just a few seconds till it took off.

Then they were gone.

CHAPTER II Part 2

Three days later the four aliens arrived on Earth, they decided to wait two days before they would contact anyone of their family. They still couldn’t believe that they were back. Back with their families and friends, back to the ones they belong with.

Max couldn’t believe it that they were back on Earth. Soon he would see his parents again. Soon he would see her, Liz Parker, the love of his life. He had a second chance with her and he was not going to waste it. He waited ten long years to be with her. Every day he thought of her. Max longed to be with Liz. Every battle he had fought, his thoughts were about Liz. So many times, he wished he hadn’t go off to Antar to be a King to a planet he didn’t know. He didn’t know anything when he was 18 years old. Now, he knew he was not going to waste his time anymore. Being with Liz and having a life with her that was his new goal.
He couldn’t wait till he could hold her in his arms. He would stroke her beautiful dark her hair. He would look into her beautiful eyes. There are so many things he wanted to do. Ten years were gone. Now he had to make the best out of it. He would live the life he always wanted.

Michael never felt like that before. Even before taking part in a battle, he was calmer. Now he was just nervous. It was rare that he got nervous. He was the big and famous warrior on Antar. Every smart man was scared for his life because of Michael’s temper. In the last ten years, Michael felt lost. He never had that strong feeling of being lost. His years with Hank couldn’t be compared to the last ten years. He missed his little pixie girl. She was his only reason to come back. She was the only reason to live. A life with her was his dream in the last ten years. The last ten years were living hell and now he was going to have a better life with his Maria.

She couldn’t believe it, they were back. After ten years away, they were back and she was scared. Maybe they didn’t want her. Maybe they hated her. Maybe they didn’t want to see her. All those thoughts crossed her mind because she was so scared. She was never that scared like now. She didn’t know what to expect. They were her family. They were her true family. She never felt loved. They gave her the feeling to be loved, wanted and appreciated; they gave her a life. They were everything to her. She was afraid of him.

How would he react to her? What would happen with them after ten years? Tess was afraid of seeing Jim and Kyle. She didn’t know what to do. Here on Earth, she was a woman who didn’t know what to expect of her family. Her greatest fear was Kyle. She didn’t know how much he changed or if he had changed. One thing was for sure, Tess would have him back in her life and that was all it counted.

What shall she expect? What if none of them wanted them back in their lives? What if they hated them? There were a lot of what if’s, which she thought of but her greatest fear was he. She didn’t know what to do if he didn’t want her back in his life. She was sure that he changed. She was sure that he was now a better man. She didn’t know what to do. She hated that feeling. The feeling to be helpless in that moment scared her to death. Isabel took part in battles, she lived almost eight years in fear but it was not as bad as now. The fear crawled into her mind; the fear was not going to go away. She just thought about what if’s.

She left ten years ago. She had to live with her sins, which she had done ten years ago. She hurt him; she treated him like crap etc. The list went on but her biggest sin was to leave him. Now, she had to pay for it.

******************************************

“Is this the address you found out?”

“Yeah…she is the only one in Albuquerque and it could…well it could be that Liz is living with her. Ohm…you’re ready?”

“I don’t know. What if she doesn’t want to see us, what if she … they hate us. Think about it, we left ten years ago. They have lives. Can we really walk back into their lives, can we?”

“Iz, relax, stop living in what if’s. That is our chance to have our normal lives. Ten years in pain and away from them is enough. I want my life back. I want to be Michael Guerin and not an alien general. Come on, it will be fine.”

Their hearts were pounding in their chests. Their minds were racing. They were scared. Scared of rejection, scared to face the hatred their friend might feel for them. Scared of the pain they caused, scared of the lives they destroyed. The fear was there until they would have certainty.

Max rang the doorbell. They waited anxious until Maria Deluca would open her door. The seconds went by slowly. It felt as if they were standing there an eternity. It was then that they heard a loud sound on the other side of the door. Definitely Maria Deluca at her best. The only words that could be heard were curses about neighbours who didn’t know to respect someone’s privacy. A promising homecoming. Before anyone of the four aliens could say anything, the door was opened.

“Well, what incident leads you to me to disturb my…” before Maria finished looked up from her Blackberry and in that moment couldn’t believe her eyes. After ten years, they were back. The shock was big.

“Oh fuck me, you’re back.” said with a shocked whisper, Maria fainted.

“That went really well.”

“Come on help carry her inside and laying her on her couch.”

*******************************************

“Shouldn’t we wake her up? I mean, it’s been...ahm thirty minutes since she fainted.”

“I think you’re right. Maria, Maria…Come on wake up, please! Do you really think I travel through the universe so you can faint on me, DAMN IT, DELUCA, wake up.”

Hearing the familiar voice, she thought she was dreaming. She hoped she wasn’t dreaming. She hoped he was there. The last thing she remembered was their scared faces. She wanted to open her eyes but the fear was too big. Hearing again his voice calling out for her gave her hope. Hope she lost so many years ago. Slowly she opened her eyes. Finally seeing his face after so many years, she did the only thing that crossed her mind. Maria slapped Michael hard in the face.
Not seeing the slap coming, Michael stumbled back and landed on his butt. Holding his burning cheek and looking at her as if she lost her mind, he didn’t expected her next action. Maria jumped on him and hugged so tight that she could crush his bones. Finding his composure, Michael hugged her back.

“God, I can’t believe that you’re back. Ten fucking years and now you are here. I missed you so much. I didn’t know if you were dead or any thing. God, do you know how worried I was. Then after ten years, you are standing at my door. Now I’m holding you. Oh God, oh god, you are all back. Oh shit, oh shit…I need to call Liz.”

“Maria, Maria… take a deep breathe, you are rambling. Before you call Liz, how about we say hi: Hi.”

Smiling, she told him hi and kissed him soft on his lips. Finally, she realized the remaining three people in her living room. Getting up of Michael, she looked at Max, Tess and Isabel; she walked towards them to greet them.

“You are not going to hit us, are you?”

“No, Tess, I’m not going to hit you. Can I get a hug now or do I have to get violent?”

All three aliens looked at her with a smile and welcomed Maria in a group hug. Pulling away after several minutes she told them it was enough or she was going to start crying. They sat down and it was a little bit awkward to sit together after ten years. Not able to take the silence anymore, Maria suggested calling Liz and telling her to come. Of course, Max couldn’t wait to see her and before Maria could make the call, he told her Liz should hurry up. Smiling at his antics, she responded that she would tell her. Michael asked if she could switch on the TV to ESPN. In the whole time, Tess and Isabel sat quiet on their spots. They were happy for their brothers that they would see their loves again; the two women didn’t know what to expect. Maria came back into the room telling the Pod Squad that Liz was on her way and would be there in almost an hour because she had something to do.

Maria sat next to Michael and wondered what her friends had gone through on their planet. The aliens wanted to know what happened with their friends in the last ten years but somehow they knew Maria wasn’t willing to talk about the last years on her own. She just talked about her job. Maria being a psychiatrist was indeed weird because Maria was more the talker than the listener was. The five friends talked about everything except about the last ten years in their friends’ lives.

*******************************************

The friends ordered food, longing to eat earthly food they ordered: Italian, Mexican and Chinese food with a big load of Tabasco. The whole food arrived after 25 minutes and there were still twenty minutes until Liz would come. They ate in silence. It was a long time ago that they could eat in silence.

The ring of the doorbell startled them. She was here. Max couldn’t stop the pounding of his heart. He would be with her again. Maria got up to open the door. Several seconds later, he heard her voice. After ten years, he was finally hearing her voice again. Then, Max heard another voice. It was male. Before he could think more about it, she entered the room and saw him immediately. Without words, Liz crossed the room and took Max into her arms, holding him so tight because she thought he would leave her again. Both were whispering each other soothing and loving words. Promising each other never to leave the other one.

After stopping hugging each other and looking into each other’s eyes, they shared the first kiss since ten years. Separating, Liz greeted Michael who gave her a bear hug. Liz was caught off guard but enjoyed the reunion with “Stonewall” Guerin. What surprised the most was the group hug Liz received from Isabel and Tess. The two men were enjoying the moment as Maria joined the other women.

No one noticed him, while he stood in the doorway. He watched as his friends reunited. Finally able to join them he made a coughing sound. He knew they would look at him with pity but what could he do. He sat in a wheel chair, for the rest of his life. It was now his life. Getting everyone’s attention, he waved at them and greeted them with a friendly smile.

“Hey guys, good to have you back.”

No one said anything. Tess approached him slowly until she stood in front of him and leaned down to hug him. Immediately he wrapped his arms around her to hug her back. Next was Isabel who stood behind Tess to hug him, too. Michael released Maria going up to Kyle to engulf him in his usual Guerin-bear-hug. Max did the same. After exchanging greetings, everyone took place.

Now they were settled. Again, an awkward silence fell over the group. It was weird to be back but not being able to have a normal conversation. The silence was too much so Michael asked the question which every one of the aliens wanted to ask.

“Kyle, how did that happen?”

Not surprised by his question, Kyle tried to appear calm but his emotions got the better of him.

“Well Michael, after graduating from high school I decided to study Law Enforcement. You know follow the other Valenti men. Well going to College in Massachusetts, like Maria in Boston, like Liz who was in Harvard and well Alex was in M.I.T. After graduating from college, I went back to Roswell. Well ahm…I joined the forces in Roswell and….”

Kyle drifted off as the memory came back of the night that changed his life. Trying hard to get rid off the lump in his throat, he tried to finish his story. Liz and Maria couldn’t take it whenever Kyle tried to tell somebody his story. They knew it was hard for him. Liz got up from her spot and walked over to Kyle taking his hand to show support. Looking up into her eyes, he told her that he was fine and would be able to finish.

Seeing how she was there for him was hurting her. She understood him. She was all the time there for him.

“Like I was saying, I joined the forces in Roswell and after…after four months we got one night a call that there was a robbery in one of the liquor stores. Uhm ...uhm… I drove to the store. As I arrived at the store, there was already another deputy. We couldn’t wait for support so we decided to go in. We thought it was just one man but they were three. So, we went in and no second went by and the shoot-out began. I…I shot one of them. I tried to take the last one down but…well I didn’t see him approaching me from behind and then he shot me in the back. The bullet smashed my spine. Since then, here I am. Four years went by and this here is my life now.”

The four aliens sat there listening to their friend. They missed so much. They didn’t expect to see one of their best friends in pain. They knew they shouldn’t ask him further questions. They didn’t want to hurt him more.

She just wanted to wrap her arms around him and tell him that everything would be alright. He still had his family and his friends. Tess wished to turn back the time. She wished she could get her hands on the person who did this causing him much more pain than he ever experienced. In that moment, she hated herself for leaving him alone, having to deal with that on his own.

Her voice was low but emotional. She asked the question that she wanted to ask the whole time.

“What about the Sheriff, how did he take it?”

“Not well. I’m so sorry Tess but…but Dad passed away four years ago. He couldn’t take it that I was shot and that he wasn’t Sheriff anymore. Since you had left, he started drinking. One night it was too much and …and …he passed away. I’m truly sorry that you have to learn it that way.”

Tess didn’t notice that tears were running down her face. She did not notice that she started to shake. She did not notice that Isabel had put her arms around her to comfort her. She kept saying that Jim was her dad. He was her only dad. Tess didn’t notice that Kyle took one of her hands and reassured her that Jim loved her as if she was his daughter. She should never forget that she was a part of the family. Thankfully for his kind words, Tess reassured Kyle that she was alright and it was just the shock.

It was now that she looked at him intensely to notice how much he had changed since the last time she saw him. He had still his beautiful steel blue eyes but now they wore a sadness and hurt. Kyle’s hair was cropped short. His facial features seemed to be harder. Nonetheless, Kyle still had his trademark smile. It was obvious that the boy Kyle Valenti changed into the man Kyle Valenti.

After calming down, Tess thanked Kyle for his support and told him that she was sorry for his loss and she wished she had been there but Kyle had cut her off and told her that he was sure that she couldn’t change what happened.

“He was a good man, Kyle. I’m sorry for your loss.”

After saying their condolence wishes, again an awkward silence fell over the group. Too much changed over the past years. Again, Michael couldn’t take the silence anymore. His next question was relief for Isabel because she couldn’t dare to ask the question that was the whole time on her mind.

“What about Whitman? What did he do in the last ten years?”

Suddenly there was a strange atmosphere. Sadness and grief settled around the humans. Kyle wore a pained expression and the two remaining human women tried hard to hold back the tears.

“Liz, honey, what is it? What is wrong with Alex?”

“Maria, come on, you are really scaring me, what happened to Alex?”

“Oh God, is he…is he…” Isabel couldn’t phrase her question. She was too shocked seeing her friends like that after asking about the man she longed to see again after so many years. Many terrible scenarios went through her mind. She was afraid that something happened to Alex. Before her thoughts could go on, Kyle answered. His voice sounded sad.

“No, no,…Alex is fine. It’s just…God how do I Explain that…” Kyle had problems to explain what happened with Alex. He was glad as Liz tried to explain the situation.

“Well, after you left, Alex told us that he had decided to graduate a year earlier than us. He went to M.I.T. After a year, we were about to graduate, we decided to follow him to Massachusetts. Maria and Kyle went to Boston University. I went to Harvard. I lived in a dorm. My roommate was a really nice girl. She helped me moving in my stuff and showing me around. We were talking about everything. Somehow, I asked her if she had a boyfriend. She told me that she had one and he was a student at M.I.T. I was surprised and told her my best friend is also at M.I.T. Before I could tell her more, guess who appeared…It was Alex. My roommate, Katherine, was Alex’ girlfriend. I was surprised at the beginning but after seeing them together, I could understand why he was with her. Anyway, after three years, Alex graduated early, he was the best of his year. Two months later, Katherine and Alex got married. God, they were so happy. I never saw Alex so happy…”

Remembering the happiness of her friend, Liz couldn’t hold her tears back. Immediately Max was on her side and trying to comfort her. The more Liz thought of her friend, the more tears fell. Max tried his best to comfort her but he wasn’t able because he didn’t really know what happened to his friend.

Isabel didn’t know what to do, what to think, what to say. Somehow, she was surprised that he moved on so fast but on the other hand, she didn’t have a relationship with him. Therefore, there was no reason for him not having any relationships with other women. She was afraid. She didn’t know what caused her friend to react that way. Isabel’s thoughts were cut off as Kyle told the rest of the story.

“Like Liz said, they got married. They were so happy…and then Katie got pregnant after a few months. Alex and Katie were so happy. They got identical twins, girls…God, when you will see them; you will fall in love with them after a second…Alex moved back to Roswell with his family. He was establishing his own high tech company. He was doing well at the beginning. Well, after three years, Alex became more successful and he was doing pretty well. Everything was great, his company was going well and he was making a lot of money, everything was better than great. Katie told me once as I had spent a few weeks at their place that she couldn’t ask for more in her life. They were happy….Then one day, Katie was on her way home from a meeting and it rained all day…she driving along the Burkett Avenue …when…oh God…another car hit her. She had no chance to survive the accident… I…I was with Alex and his daughters at home when two police men stood at his door and told …him that he lost his wife. I called Liz and Maria to tell them what happened. Alex was silent the whole time…I…mean he just lost his wife and said nothing. We got the girls and drove to the hospital…all the time he said nothing. The girls were afraid and cried. They wanted their mom but it wasn’t possible. The girls were four when they lost their mother…And Alex, he isn’t the same anymore. That was three years ago…”

She could feel the tears streaming down her face. She could see the pain in the faces of her friends. She didn’t know what to say or to do. He had to suffer so much. He lost his wife and his kids lost their mother. She felt so sorry for him. Finally, he had everything he wanted and within a second all shattered into little pieces.

“God, how terrible. How is he now and what about his daughters?”

“The girls are fine. Of course, they miss their mother and ask about her. They want to hear everything about her. Alex always tells them stories about their mother. Well, …and Alex…he’s good. I mean, it is the third year after Katie’s death and he is there for his kids. He is the best dad I know. He is there for them. Let me make myself clear about Alex: he isn’t anymore the goofy, geeky guy you knew from school. He changed. He is closed off towards strangers, he keeps distant towards people. Don’t get me wrong, he still makes jokes and is acting social but he keeps himself distant. He’s at ease with his close friends and his family but after loosing Katie he became another man.”

Kyle tried to explain how much their old friend Alex changed over the last three years. He wanted them to understand that time changed him. His biggest loss changed him.

After Kyle’s explanation, Isabel excused herself to freshen up. Walking to the bathroom, she noticed the photos on the walls. There were pictures of Alex’ graduation of WRH, then pictures of Kyle’s, Liz’ and Maria’s graduation with them Alex and he looked different happy and there was a twinkle in his eyes whenever he smiled. The other pictures were group photos, then everyone alone etc. One picture caught Isabel’s attention: the picture showed Alex and a beautiful girl wrapped in his arms. They were sitting on a bench and the sun was shining down on them. They seemed so happy and carefree. She looked intense at his face. Seeing the love and happiness in his eyes hurt her but she knew he was happy and that was all mattered. Then Isabel looked at the girl in Alex’ arms, she was beautiful. She assumed that was Katherine.

“She was so beautiful.”

The voice startled Isabel. Turning around she saw Maria standing there with teary eyes and a sad smile. The two women looked at each other for a long time and then Isabel took Maria in her arms and told her that she was sorry that they lost such a good friend. Maria told her it was alright, it just still hurt. Maria wanted to show them all some pictures so she was walking towards her bedroom and Isabel was walking into the bathroom.

AN: Thank you all for reading the story and giving feedback. Glad that you liked the reunion, especially between Maria and Michael. I wanted to keep the spirit between them. Life was hard on Alex and Kyle but they have to help themselves before somebody else can do it. ***************************

CHAPTER 2 PART 3

It felt good how the cold water cooled her skin. She couldn’t believe what happened to her friends in the last ten years. The pain, the hurt, the sorrow, the grief, the lost happiness, the lost love, it was so much. It was overwhelming. Nonetheless, they tried to live their lives, but they had to suffer so much. She couldn’t believe it. They didn’t deserve it to loose a friend. He was so happy. He found the one he would love ‘til the day he died and what happened she was taken away from her family and her husband. It was cruel. She didn’t know how she could face him. She didn’t know what to say. What could she do? She could be there for him as a friend. She could try to offer her support. He was a daddy. He had to be there for his children. A small smile appeared on her lips: Alex Whitman was a daddy. Kyle was right; he would be such a good dad. Every child could be happy to have him as father. He was happy. He was successful. He had everything he ever wished for and then he lost her within a second.

Trying to be able to gain control over her feelings, which were overwhelming her, especially the sadness she felt. She couldn’t stop the tears streaming down her face. Taking her time to calm down, Isabel freshet up and exited the bathroom. Walking back into the living room, she noticed that her friends sat in silence. It was a comfortable silence. They just sat there: Maria and Michael together curled up on the couch, Liz and Max sat together in the love seat and Tess sat alone on the other couch; Isabel decided to take a seat next to Tess. It was as if they needed each other’s support now. They had to let the news sink in. It was not that easy to come back. They all hoped that it would be a happy reunion but they were wrong. Sure, Isabel was happy for her brothers and the other girls but Kyle and Alex were another thing.

Sitting together as a group was a feeling everyone had to get used to. It was a long time ago they were together. Not able to take the silence anymore, Isabel asked about her parents. Her voice was hesitant and small. She feared the worst. She couldn’t have her hopes up. The revelations from earlier taught her better than to get her hopes up. Liz and Maria could understand her fear after finding out Jim was dead, Kyle sitting in a wheel chair and Alex was a widower. They knew how she felt. Liz reassured her that the Evans were fine. She told them that their father retired a few years ago and he and Diane were travelling around the world. They were very happy. The funny thing was that both behaved more like newlyweds than an old couple was. Sure, the Evans had been upset about the way their kids left. It hurt them that their children couldn’t be honest with them. Philip and Diane could understand that the teens were afraid but to think that they would reject their own children hurt them for a long time. Now, they would be happy to have them back alive. A smile graced Isabel’s face hearing that her parents were well and having the time of their life. She couldn’t wait until she would see them again. Maria told her she had to wait because the Evans were on vacation in Italy and they would probably return in a few days but wasn’t sure. It was the first good news she heard today. She hoped it wasn’t the last one.

They listened to Liz how she talked about her job at a microbiology and biochemistry lab doing research work. She was one of the supervisors who was responsible for a whole department. In addition, once in the week she teaches at the University of Albuquerque. She was content and now she was happy all the while looking at Max.

Maria announced that she had some pictures the Pod Squad could look at. Of course, the four were eager to learn a little bit more about their friends and what they had done in the last ten years. The first picture showed Alex at his Graduation from WRH. He wore a pride smirk, which Isabel never saw before and made him look more handsome and matured. Maria explained that Alex graduated as best of his class and received a full scholarship for M.I.T. The next one was of Kyle’s, Liz’ and Maria’s graduation. Isabel saw the same picture in the hall. The next picture showed Liz and Maria in their Crashdown uniform standing in the kitchen with the Crashdown cook who was Alex standing between the two waitresses with his arms around their shoulders. Michael couldn’t hold his laughers back and tried to ask how come that Alex had worked as cook at the Crash. Kyle explained that Mr Parker needed a cook and Alex applied to Jeff for the job. Alex wanted to earn some money before going to M.I.T and he could spend time with the girls. They watched more pictures showing their friends enjoying themselves. Next Maria stood up to put a disc into the DVD-player, Max asked what that was and Maria responded she wanted to show them pictures of Alex’ and Katie’s wedding. As Maria spoke, Kyle and Liz snickered in the background. The aliens didn’t know what to think and decided to ask so Liz told them why they were snickering.

“Ohm…You have to know that Alex was very nervous and his paranoia kicked in. He forced your mother, Diane, to check on Katie every two minutes. He really thought she would runaway. Diane was so pissed that she threatened to straggle him until he would be unconscious and would wake him up when the wedding started. Then Alex responded he had no problem with that as long as she would make sure Katie would be there. I swear, I never saw your mother had drunk so much than at the reception. It was too funny…Katie did the same with Mrs Deluca. It was hilarious. Amy and Diane bonded in that night. Your poor dad had to take them both home because he was the only one who was sober.”

The room was filled with laughers, Max and Isabel couldn’t believe their ears. It felt good too laugh. It was probably the first time today they had such a good laugh. The thought that their mother Diane Evans would do somebody bodily harm was so unnatural but funny. As the laughers quiet down, Maria pushed the PLAY button: the first picture showed Alex and Kyle in their tuxedos wearing big grins on their faces. The next one showed Liz and Maria wearing the female version of a tuxedo and tried hard to imitate a male pose. Irritated by their clothing, Tess asked why they wore tuxedos.

“Katie had her sisters and her best friend as bridesmaids and Alex had Kyle as best man so Alex asked us two if we wanted to be his “best ladies”. You know, the female version, we thought it would be cool to participate as “best ladies” at our best friend’s wedding. Without hesitation, we agreed and Alex could not stop to grin. He was really happy that we had a role in the wedding.”

Amused by that little anecdote, the group proceeded watching the pictures. The next picture showed Alex and Katie sharing a kiss after the preacher declared them as Mr and Mrs Whitman; the next were group pictures. Maria skipped to the next pictures showing a pregnant Katie; Alex with his pregnant wife stroking her big belly; the next pictures showed Alex’ daughters, Michelle and Katherine, as they were born. Tess and Isabel awed in that moment and Michael said that they were cute babies but he didn’t understand why they named one after Katie. Maria explained that Alex and Katie decided that they wanted to name them after their mothers; Alex’ mother name was Katherine. Therefore, Alex meant why should just boys be juniors, girls could also. Satisfied with the answer Michael returned to watching the pictures. Isabel couldn’t tear her eyes off the TV-screen as the next picture appeared. It showed a sleeping Alex having his babies on his bare chest. It was adorable. She loved to see him that way. It showed her how much he loved his family.

It was unusual for her to see him like that. It was now Isabel realized that Alex had a life after her. He had a wife and children. He had moved on. He had found his one love. Unfortunately, he lost her. It changed him. Isabel expected Alex wouldn’t be anymore the goofy, geeky boy she remembered.

Isabel was brought out of her thoughts, as a beeping sound was audible. Immediately the three humans searched for the source of the noise, finding their Blackberries all three started smiling as each looked at the screens. Totally out of the loop, the aliens looked at each other confused and curious. Seeing that the friends are confused, Maria gave Tess and Isabel her Blackberry so that she and the others could see would make the humans smile. Kyle gave Michael and Max his. Looking at the screens the aliens stared at it and wore a blank expression not knowing what was going on. Seeing two girls standing in front of the TAJ MAHAL, wearing smiles and waving to someone, who seemed to be the photographer.

“Well, my Martian friends let me introduce to the lovely Michelle and Katherine Whitman who are with their Dad on a business trip in India. The dark haired girl is Michelle and the dark blonde girl is Katherine. Alex is for a week there to conclude some treaties.”

“Oh my god, they are so cute and beautiful. I can see they have Alex’ smile. I can’t believe that he is in India… Wow, he really made it.”

“Yeah, he really made it. He told me that the deals are about a lot of money. I mean, he has talked about billions. Well, Alex hates it to leave the girls too long alone. Therefore, he does not want to stay away from his girls, so when he’s on a business trip that takes longer than two days, they come with him. He wants to spend as much time with them as he can. I think, it is more the fact as he was young his parents were mostly on trips and he didn’t have much of them so he tries to avoid the same for his children. He is a great father. He cancels appointments with clients to be there for them. They are his world.”

“Wow, I really have to get used to the fact that Whitman has kids and the fact that he is rich. I haven’t thought he would be the first having children. They seem to be great girls considering that he raises them alone…I mean he is certainly capable of doing it.”

“Well Michael, he isn’t alone. Ahm…about more than a year ago I moved in Alex’ place. When he is at the office or has a meeting, I’m with the girls. Well, we help each other. I also have an apartment here in Albuquerque to stay here when I have an appointment with my doctors.”

“Wow Uncle Kyle. That’s too odd.”

“Michael, Kyle’s great with the girls. They love their uncle.”

“I didn’t mean to insult him. It’s just that everything changed so much. Whitman had been married and has kids, you, Kyle, got shot, again, and live with Whitman and play Mary Poppins. Don’t get me wrong, it is just overwhelming how much your lives changed.”

At this statement, suddenly an evil grin appeared on Maria’s face, turning slightly to look at Liz who was seated in Max’ lap, her look told Liz not to say no to her request.

“If you allow me to tell him, I’ll do your laundry until Christmas. Deal?”

“Deal. Go Ahead.”

“Tell me what, Liz; what does Maria want to tell me.”

“My dear Michael, you said that you didn’t expect that our lives had changed so much. Our dear friend Alex has so much success that he is one of the richest men on Earth. Alex isn’t also a computer genius but he is also a financial genius. Therefore, Alex can have a life in luxury, sure, he has a big house and some extras but there was one thing that he always wanted, even we didn’t know about that. Do you know what that is, Michael?”

Shaking his head, Maria’s grin became bigger. Now the three remaining aliens were also curious and Liz and Kyle couldn’t hide their smiles. Maria continued with a smug smile because she knew Michael Guerin would jump out of his current seat and he wouldn’t be able to hold back his excitement. Nevertheless, his shocked face would be a lot more satisfaction.

“Our dear Alex always wanted to own his own ice-hockey team and for two years he’s the owner of the NEW YORK RANGERS.”

His eyes grew wide, his mouth dropped to the floor.

******************************************

Michael Guerin sat in this state for the last eight minutes. Max stood in front of Michael waving his hand back and forth. There was still no reaction. It was somehow scary seeing a speechless Michael Guerin.

“Okay, that is scary. I shouldn’t have allowed you to tell him that news. Look what you’ve done. He’s speechless and he has been in that state for the last ten minutes. Maria, do something, now!”

“Gee, Liz, relax. Let’s sit down and wait, Michael will come out of his state of shock. In addition, he looks kind of cute.”

It took another few minutes until Michael came back to reality. He jumped out of his seat and just stood. He couldn’t stop smiling at the thought that one of his friends owned an ice-hockey team. He couldn’t believe it. It was as if his own dream had come true.

“HE OWNS THE NEW YORK RANGERS! WHITMAN OWNS THE NEW YORK RANGERS!!! Do you know what that means? He has the best seats; he decides which player plays for him. Wow.”

Taking a few deep breaths to calm down and sitting down, he kept smiling. The others couldn’t believe what they saw: a smiling Michael Guerin.

*****************************************

After Michael came out of his state of shock again a comfortable silence settled around the group. Liz told the aliens that Kyle and she were going to drive back to Roswell and they could come with them so they would meet Alex tomorrow and the Evans in a few days. Maria tagged along since she had no appointments for the rest of the week.

As things were settled, Maria suggested that the aliens went back to their place and come back in the morning. Michael seemed to be a little hurt that she didn’t want that he stayed. Later she explained that they should wait a little bit because he just returned into her life but she knew Michael wouldn’t leave her. He loved her too much. Smiling at that he understood what she meant.

*******************************************

She couldn’t stop. She couldn’t stop thinking of him. She would see him soon. She didn’t know how to react to him or how to act around him. Ten years she waited for that moment to see him, to touch him, to talk to him, to laugh with him. Now, she was confused. Her feelings confused her, she was excited and scared, and she was happy and sad at the same time. She didn’t know what to do the second she would finally see him. Isabel knew that Alex changed. Nevertheless, her biggest fear was that he wouldn’t accept them or better said her. The whole night she couldn’t sleep. The thought to see him kept her awake. Lying in her bed and looking at the ceiling was her nightly activity.

Her thoughts drifted off to their High school time, all her happy moments involved Alex Whitman. A smile appeared on her lips as she remembered the moments she shared with Alex. She had hurt him so much. She felt sorry for what she did but she thought it was for his best. In the end, she had hurt herself, too.

Looking out the window, seeing Roswell’s landscape Isabel felt home. Seeing her familiar environment was as if a burden was taken off her shoulder. There was no pressure anymore but she knew the moment she saw him she would feel it again. The burden she carried for ten years would immediately return. She knew it.

Both cars, Liz’ deep red coloured SUV and Kyle’s black Chrysler Sebring 560, turned right into a driveway. Before the cars drove upwards the drive, Kyle had to enter a PIN-number, so that the gate would open, to have access to the mansion. They saw a mansion. Sure, the aliens knew that Alex was rich but they had never believed that he lived in a mansion. Driving up the driveway, Isabel admired the beautiful front yard. Everywhere you looked, there were red and white roses, pink-coloured tulips and there were white orchids, too. It looked beautiful. Isabel had to admit that the three-floor villa looked like one of the Southern States: the entry was a big portico; it looked beautiful with the huge porch; it looked as if everything was made out of white marble; the villa had huge windowpanes and a huge balcony, which went around the completely second floor of the villa. It was breathtaking to see a villa like that in Roswell.

Coming to a halt, the first thing Isabel saw was a black BMW limousine parked in front. She knew whose car it was. She just knew. Sitting in Kyle’s car with Tess, they parked behind the BMW and Liz parked behind them. Isabel could hear Kyle’s muttering that he thought Alex was coming home tonight.

Sitting in the back, Isabel gripped tightly her seatbelt. She was nervous. She couldn’t believe it. He was here. He was inside and soon she would see him. In the rear - view mirror, Isabel could see that Maria, Liz, Max and Michael already had gotten out of the SUV. Kyle said that they should get out too.

Walking up together to the big mahogany door, they waited until Kyle entered again a code to get access to the house. Finally, opening the door Kyle welcomed them inside. Standing in the huge bright hall, they couldn’t believe how beautiful it looked: coming in the stairs are directly in front, to the left and to the right are two different living rooms; left to the stairs is a corridor, which lead to other rooms and the floor consisted of white marble.

Suddenly there were voices; it was the laughing of girls and a deep laugh, which was sounding male.

“DADDY, STOP.”

“Come and catch us:”

Hearing more laughing and in addition running feet, two little girls were running out of the right living room until they came to a sudden halt.

“UNCLE KYLE, AUNTIE LIZ, AUNTIE MARIA!”

At first they jumped at Kyle, hugging him tightly, next was Liz who leaned down to hug the two girls; finally, Maria was the last one to embrace the girls and kissing them all over the face. The aliens stood there and watched the humans. Then, she heard him calling his daughters. After ten years Isabel heard Alex’ voice.

She couldn’t wait anymore. She needed to see him, now. Hearing him wasn’t enough, she wanted to see him. Isabel had to see how much the boy she knew changed into the man he was. His steps were audible. He was in sight.

“Come on girls, I promise I won’t tickle you…”

Alex was coming out of the same room as his daughters did before then he saw her. After ten years, he saw her again standing in his hall. She was just standing there. The last time he saw her she was a teenage girl. He never thought that he would see her again. Tearing his eyes off her, Alex saw the remaining three aliens. Not really sure how to react, Alex smiled a little at them but he didn’t really know how to feel or to approach.

Seeing their father standing there, the two little girls saw now the four strangers standing in the hall. Looking intense at them big smiles appeared on their faces. Looking at their father with that expression, they showed him that they recognized the strangers.

“Daddy look, that’s Granny Di’s babies…. They are big babies… She be happy to see them and Grandpa, too, right Daddy.”

“Yeah, right Daddy…Granny an’ Grandpa wil’ be happy.”

Brought out of his stupor by his daughter Michelle, Alex looked at her and Katie smiling at them and then at his friends.

“Yes, you’re right, Babygirls, your grandparents will be happy to have them back. Welcome back home.”

CHAPTER III

After ten years, she saw him. Welcome back home were his first words said directly at them. Isabel couldn’t believe that he was standing there. She wanted to hear his voice again. She wanted to take him in her arms. She longed to feel him. She knew it was impossible. He just stood there looking at them. She didn’t know what to do, how to react or what to say. She waited ten years for this moment, finally seeing him she stood frozen to her spot. Maybe he didn’t want them in his home. Maybe he didn’t want to see her. Maybe he hated them. Isabel’s mind was racing with scenarios regarding Alex’ reaction to them or better said to her. He had his family maybe he didn’t want any aliens in his home. He lived in peace why the hell would he want any trouble.

The silence was pure torture. He still didn’t say anything. No one showed any reaction. She couldn’t take the silence anymore. It was suffocating not being able to go to him and take him in her arms. It hurt that he was near but at the same time, he was far away from her. It hurt that things weren’t the same.

Alex didn’t think that he would ever see his extraterrestrial friends again. It was long ten years, they were away and so much had happened in the life of the humans. He couldn’t believe that they were here. They were alive and that mattered. He had never believed that they would stand in front of him. He saw what effect their departure had on Liz and Maria. He saw what effect it had for ten years. Sometimes he hated them for leaving. The pain they felt. The lost loves they experienced. Ten years went by and they are back. What shall happen now? Alex always wondered what could be if they come back. He didn’t really know how to react. They were grown-ups. People change. Life changed people. He knew how a whole life could be change in just a moment.

It was almost surreal that the Pod Squad stood in his hall. Looking at them, he could see that they looked somehow afraid especially Tess and Isabel. Almost as if, they were afraid of him. Alex suggested that the others spoke about the last years. He just didn’t know how much they told. They just stood there, saying no word and just looking at him. Alex wanted to put his returned friends at ease as he was about to say something. Alex found himself in bear hug with Michael Guerin.

Michael Guerin’s embrace caught Alex off guard. He couldn’t remember any day where Michael showed any affection or sentimental behaviour, well except their departure. Feeling how Michael tightened his grip on him, Alex put his arms around his friend and hugged him with the same might. It was a little bit awkward hugging Michael because Michael wasn’t known as the emotional type of man. Michael’s words brought Alex back of his musings.

“Good to see you, Whitman. It was a long time.”

“You too, Guerin. Glad to see you alive.”

Slowly Michael loosened his hold on Alex. Looking at the human in front of him, Michael whispered his next words because he didn’t want to hurt Alex more than he already was.

“I’m sorry for your loss, Alex. I wished I had got the opportunity to meet your wife.”

He didn’t expect to hear those words. He didn’t expect to be reminded about his biggest loss. He didn’t expect to feel the pain again he buried inside. He didn’t expect to feel the sadness, sorrow and the pain again. He was lost for words. It was still hard and painful for Alex remembering his biggest loss and it would always be. Not able to say anything in this moment, Alex responded with a sad smile and a nod that he was thankful for Michael’s words. He knew that the other three would speak their condolence. Michael stepped aside and let Max greet Alex. Again, Alex found himself in an embrace. This time the embrace looked a little bit weird because Alex was taller than Max. Alex was 6’4 and it seemed that Max was almost a head shorter than Alex was. Max’ embrace wasn’t as enthusiastically as Michael’s but though it reflected how much Max missed his tall friend. Max released Alex to give the girls the opportunity to greet Alex.

Standing in front of him a few feet away, both hybrid women didn’t know how to act. It was too weird seeing him after ten years. Isabel wanted to be in his arms but now with the chance she was scared. Probably he would just embrace her for a short time and then release her. She wanted to feel the safety he gave her back when they were teenagers. However, it wasn’t possible they weren’t teenagers anymore. Isabel was brought out of her thoughts as Alex’ voice sounded.

“I know, I’m pretty to watch but I won’t bite if you want to touch. I promise.”

It was audible that Alex meant to sound funny but Isabel didn’t feel to laugh. She just wanted to run into his arms and stay there. Both squirmed under his gaze. Isabel could see that Tess slowly made her way over to Alex. Slowly Tess embraced Alex and vice versa. Alex had to bend down a lot so the hug could work somehow. Moving his hands up and down her back, Alex told her he was glad that she was well and that they were able to come home. Tess thanked him and told him that she was sorry that he lost his wife. Hugging her tighter, he signalized her that he was thankful. Releasing her, he could see that she had tears in her eyes looking over to Kyle Alex had a questioning look. Kyle simply nodded his head, immediately Alex knew that Tess was told about Jim. Squeezing her shoulders, he told her that Jim loved her very much and that she always would be a family member. Tess slightly nodded and went to stand near Kyle.

It was her turn. She was the last one. She was about to be in his arms. Isabel didn’t know what to do or how to act. So many nights on Antar, she had imagined how their reunion would be. Now, knowing that life on the man she loved wasn’t easy, she didn’t really know how to behave around him. In her dreams and imagination, things seemed so easy. That’s where she was wrong; a dream wasn’t the real life. Before Isabel could think more about the way to approach Alex, she found Alex standing in front of her. She still didn’t know what to do. She looked up into his green-grey coloured eyes and slowly both wrapped their arms around the other one. After ten years, she was where she always wanted to be. She felt as if nothing could destroy the peace she found. Being in his arms was still one of the most amazing feelings she experienced. Having her arms around his neck, her head placed on his shoulder and standing on her tiptoes, Isabel just wanted stay in this position. Hugging him tight, she showed him how much she missed Alex.

Alex felt awkward to embrace Isabel. It was a long time ago that they were in that situation. He didn’t know how to feel about it. He wasn’t used to be close to someone except his daughters and his human friends. He wasn’t used to any affection coming from the aliens so being in an embrace with Michael was a big surprise. Isabel was another story. There was a history but Alex was glad to see that she was alive. It was strange for him to be with his high school friends. It was strange for him being embraced by Isabel. It was strange for him seeing them again. He felt how she tightened her arms around him and immediately he tightened his grip on her. He didn’t know why but he felt he had to do it. It was strange.

Slowly Alex stroked Isabel’s lower back and he said the words she longed to hear for ten years. Ten years, Isabel waited for him saying those words. The words meant so much to her. No one could ever understand what it meant for Isabel to hear Alex saying them. When he would say them, she knew it would be real. It would be real that she was back. It would be real that she was Isabel Evans. It was her chance to have a normal life. It was real. It became real as he said the words she needed to hear.

“Welcome back home, Isabel. Good to have you back.”

It was real. He said it and it was all mattered. Slowly Alex released his grip on her; Isabel felt how she missed his embrace. She didn’t want to let go. She never wanted to let go. She wished she could still hold him. It was impossible. Looking him in the eyes, she saw something she never saw before. She had never believed to see so much pain and sorrow in his eyes. It was then that she saw his reality. The pain, the sorrow, the loss and the emptiness were reflected in his eyes. In this moment, Isabel was lost for words. She wasn’t able to form the words she wanted to say. She couldn’t stop the tears welling up. She tried to say something. Isabel didn’t really know how to express her feelings.

“Alex, it is good to be back. I…I wanted to say how…how sorry I am for your loss. I…I am so sorry that you lost your wife.”

She couldn’t say more. There wasn’t more that had to be said. There wasn’t more that could be said. She wasn’t able. It was impossible for her to tell him what she wanted to say. Her emotions were overwhelming her. Seeing his look, she knew him and always would know him. With a tight smile, he whispered her it was alright and the only thing he could do was to be there for his daughters and live his life. She heard the sadness in his voice. Isabel knew he was not alright and that he would never be. He would always feel the pain. All adults were brought out of their thoughts and musings as a voice sounded.

“You know, it’s not very nice to forget about us. We want a nice introduction, Daddy.”

“Yeah, rude much.”

Hearing the two voices, Isabel saw how Alex’ eyes lit up with joy and pride. Alex looked over his shoulder; a big grin- Alex Whitman trademark grin- crossed his facial features. Turning around, he walked over to the two little girls, who stood there with their arms crossed over their chest but with a smile. Standing behind them and squatting down so he stood between both girls; he put his arms around his daughters’ little shoulders.

“My, how could I forget to mention my little ladies? I’m so sorry. Please don’t be mad at me. I’m an old man and sometimes I forget things but I would never ever forget my lovely, wonderful and beautiful daughters. Please, forgive me Katie and Michelle.”

Alex looked at his daughters with a puppy dog look that no one was able to resist, not even his own spawn. Liz, Maria and Kyle were used to the family’s little antics but for the aliens it was a very new experience watching one of their friends acting with children. All seven people couldn’t hold their snickers back as the display went on. It was little Katie Whitman who looked at her father and gave him the usual answer.

“Well Daddy, since you admit to be old and sometimes forget things but never your amazing, wonderful and beautiful daughters, we forgive you.”

The Whitman girls let out a small giggle and Alex’ smile became bigger as he responded that he was thankful that they forgave him and he would love to introduce them to his friends. Alex knew that Michelle and Katie recognized the Pod Squad from pictures but the pictures were old and people change. Giving both girls each a kiss on the cheeks, he introduced them to his friends.

“Okay my little ladies, let me introduce you to my friends and family. Do you see the big blond guy with the scowl on his face? That is Michael Guerin. And the lady next to him is Tess Harding. And the other two you recognized are Max and Isabel Evans, Granny Di’s and Grandpa Philipp’s children. You can go to them and say Hi to your aunties and uncles.”

Before Michael, Tess, Max and Isabel could react, Michael found his legs in a twin hug by the Whitman girls. Michael didn’t really know what to do. He wasn’t used to children and it was scaring him that he didn’t react to them but as he looked down at them he saw their big smiles and couldn’t help himself as also to smile at them. He told them he was glad to meet them as he patted them on the shoulders. It touched him as they called him ‘Uncle Michael’. He hadn’t believed that he would ever be called an uncle. As the girls released Michael, they went to Tess who squatted down and the two girls embraced her immediately calling her ‘Auntie Tessie’. Tess was overwhelmed by her emotions as she heard the little ones calling her that. Immediately tears sprung into her eyes and the twins thought they had hurt her. Tess reassured them that she was alright and just happy. Being happy with that answer, the twins left Tess and turned to Max who wore a small smile and was in the same dilemma as Michael before. He didn’t really know how to act around them. It made him very nervous and it scared him. He was surprised that they had known him before. It meant his parents and Alex were close. He was scared that he would leave a bad impression or that the kids wouldn’t like him but he was surprised as the girls wrapped their little arms around his legs as they had done with Michael before. Immediately, he smiled and told them he was glad to meet them. They rewarded him with a smile and replied they waited long enough to meet their uncle.

It was Isabel’s turn to greet the girls. They were Alex’ daughters, Isabel hoped they would like her. She was afraid. Isabel loved kids but it was different when the children belong to the man you love. She hoped to find acceptance. She hoped she could be a friend for them but it seemed more that they were all a family and she was going to be a part of it. Before Isabel thought more about her situation, Michelle and Katie already stood in front of her. Slowly Isabel squatted down and looked at the girls, who watched her intense. It was as if they were searching for something. Isabel felt how the worry and concern were crawling up; she didn’t know what to do or how to act. Wanting to ease the situation, Isabel told them that she was happy to meet them and that she had heard a lot about them. Both girls looked at each other and responded smiling that no matter what she heard it was true. Smiling at the girls, Isabel was engulfed in a hug by both girls. Isabel wrapped her arms around the girls hugging them tightly to her. As Isabel released her grip on the girls, they told her that they always wanted to meet their ‘Auntie Izzy’.

Both girls went to where their father stood and Alex suggested that they better went and took a seat in one of the living rooms. He grabbed his daughters around their waists and carried them inside the living room he came out before. His daughters were squealing and giggling as their father grabbed them. Entering the bright room, Isabel thought she was dreaming: the floor was made out of white marble, which was shining; the walls were painted in a warm champagne colour; the furniture was made out of mahogany; there was a big fire place; then next on the left side was a big picture-window, which was on the West side of the house so you had a wonderful view of the sunset; in the middle of the room were two dark brown big and long couches, two loveseats and a smaller couch. In the middle was a mahogany coffee table. In the whole room were pictures of Alex and his wife and the girls. Then there were some with Kyle and the girls. On the other hand, there were both men and the girls. Others were with Liz and Maria then both women and Alex’ daughters.

Alex took a seat in one of the loveseats and his daughters in the other one. Kyle positioned himself next to the loveseat Alex sat in. Michael, Maria, Max and Liz sat in one of the couches and Isabel and Tess took a seat on the other one.

Alex observed his friends. It was still weird to have them back but it was good. He had to get used to them as they had to get used being back. He could see how much they changed. Michael had his hair spiked up just as they met back in High School. He gained a little bit more weight, which transformed into muscles. Max didn’t change that much: his facial features seemed harder but he still had his boyish look and his hair was longer. Looking at Tess, he saw she had her hair longer till her shoulder and it was a little bit darker than he remembered. In addition, she didn’t had anymore those little curls her hair was more straight. She still had that angelic face with a hidden mischief and she still looked breakable but he knew she was a strong woman. Next, his eyes wandered to the woman he knew as a girl, who changed the most, in his opinion: Isabel lost weight. Nonetheless, her body was curvier than he remembered back then. Her hair was shorter. It was a little longer than Tess’ and it wasn’t anymore the blond he remembered. It was dark blond with a red touch. It looked good. Her face was still the one that belonged to an angel. He could see that she was more vulnerable than he remembered her to be. He saw it the moment he stepped into the hall and saw her standing there as if she was wearing the weight of the world on her shoulders. He saw her fear and worry. He always saw it.

Realizing that the couples were in a conversation and the remaining two women were also in a conversation, Alex turned to Kyle and told him he was getting some drinks. Kyle told him to bring him the usual. Alex looked at him as if he lost his mind because he always brought him the usual. Standing up what got everyone’s attention; Alex asked what they would like to drink. After catching the orders, Alex headed towards the kitchen. Liz also stood up and told him she would help him, Alex gave her a grateful smile as they went out of the room.

As he stood, her eyes were on him. They travelled up and down, as if they were taking in every inch of his body. Isabel had to admit that Alex looked incredibly hot. He truly matured and it was visible. He was taller, what was a plus. In addition, he gained weight and was more muscular than he was back in school. He didn’t look like a hunk. Everything was well proportioned: his arms, his legs, his shoulders and his upper body. He wore a tight white V-neck T-shirt and wore over his shirt a grey coloured vest, which emphasized his broad shoulder. Isabel had to admit that Alex still had a cute little butt and the pair of jeans he wore just brought more out his butt. They clung to his hips as if they were customized for him. His hair was longer and spiked up a bit. His look was completed with the designer beard and the frameless glasses he wore. His facial features looked harder. Isabel was brought out of her musings as Alex and Liz came back with trays full of drinks and snacks. Her eyes roamed Alex again. She couldn’t stop watching him. She was fascinated about the man in front of her.

“If you don’t stop drooling, there will be nothing left for later when you watch him secretly.”

The voice startled her. Her face heated up and she felt the blush, which settled on her cheeks. Tilting her head, Isabel answered also in a whisper.

“Could you be any louder, Tess? I think the whole town didn’t hear you. And for your information, I wasn’t drooling and I wasn’t watching him secretly.”

“Sure girl, denial is also a way to deal with love.”

Everyone grabbed his drink and a comfortable silence engulfed the friends. Michelle and Katie walked over to their father and sat in his lap. Isabel found that they really looked cute together. It was now Isabel saw Alex as the father she always thought he would be. Michael couldn’t take the silence anymore.

“So Alex, uhm…I heard you own the New York Rangers. I haven’t believed that you’re an ice hockey fan.”

Alex was a little bit startled. He didn’t really know how to respond. It was business and he didn’t like talking about business when his daughters were present. When he was with his daughters, he was their father and not the businessperson he was.

“You know, how about I show you around the house and answer your question later? Do you agree? I mean, you should know where everything is as long as you’re here.”

The aliens looked at each other then stood up agreeing with Alex that he showed him the house. The girls wanted to come with him but he told them he wanted them to stay with Kyle, Liz and Maria. He told them he had some things to discuss with their new uncles and aunties. Not wanting to let go of their father they tried they puppy dog eyes but it didn’t really work. At least Alex promised them a lot of ice cream. Leading his friends out of the room and down the corridor, Alex told them they would start downstairs. Max was surprised and asked how many floors there were. Alex told him there were in total four floors. Coming to a halt in front of a door, Alex pressed his thumb into a keypad and the door opened, which was an elevator. Turning around he saw surprised faces. He told them it was the future and there were almost no keys anymore. In addition he told them, he didn’t want that the girls had access to the elevator. Letting Isabel and Tess enter first then followed the men, he pushed the button for downstairs. He told them the only one using the elevator was Kyle for getting to the second floor to his bedroom. Alex assumed the aliens knew about Kyle’s tragic night as his life shattered into pieces. It was still hard for his friend and Alex knew it. He would do everything so Kyle would always feel home. He was his best friend and he was always there for his daughters.

Arriving on the fourth floor, the adults stepped out of the elevator. Looking at her surrounding, Isabel couldn’t quite figure out where they were. The hall was decorated in a Mediterranean style. The walls and the ceiling were painted in a natural earth ware colour; on the walls were little lamps, which looked oriental and completed the look. The floor was made out of granite. Turning around Alex told them to follow him to show them everything.

“Okay, we’re in the basement, which was turned into a wellness area. Here on the left, you find the sauna but I don’t know if you can use it since the whole balance stuff back then when we were sixteen. So it is up to you.”

“You have your own wellness area in your house? Wow, that is amazing…”

“Yeah, Max it is but there is more to show than just the sauna. Let’s go. When you walk further down the hall, you reach the pool area. There you find the inside swimming pool and the hot tub. Let’s go inside.”

Entering the pool area, the aliens thought they were back in the ancient world. They couldn’t believe how beautiful it looked. The ceiling was high and there were four columns around the pool. On the right wall was a painting, which showed the Acropolis in Athens. The hot tub, which was at the end of the room in a secured area, was big enough to take at least twenty people. There was a door leading to another room, Alex told them that they found there towels and other bathing stuff. If they needed anything, they should tell him. Exiting the pool area, Alex showed them the showers, which were outside in the hall. Tess was a little bit confounded that the showers were outside and it had glass doors. Alex grinned at her as he stepped into the shower and waved at her with his left hand then touched the glass door with his right hand. Alex couldn’t be seen anymore. Touching the glass again and coming out of the shower, he explained that it was SMART GLASS. A new technology since a few years, Tess told him that she didn’t see him at all. The aliens were totally blown away. Next, Alex led them to the gym. Finished with the basement, Alex led them back to the elevator to show them the rest. Arriving back on the first floor, Alex led straight to the kitchen. Michael couldn’t believe his eyes as they entered Alex’ kitchen, which was as big as the Crashdown. The kitchen unit were made out of steel, the work surfaces were made out of black granite. There were four stoves. The cooking area, with the cooker was in the middle of the room. There was a large fridge, which looked like an industrial fridge. Next to it was the industrial freezer. Alex told them they are home and they should act like home and don’t be inhibited. He whispered to Isabel and Tess that in the freezer was a lot of ice cream of Ben&Jerry’s. Both women smiled at him and thanked him. But he insisted that no one used the kitchen for cooking but him. He couldn’t stand it when some one else used his kitchen. He showed them fast the connected living room and then he led them upstairs to the second floor. He told them that here were all the bedrooms and every bedroom had its own bathroom. He showed Isabel and Tess their bedrooms because he assumed Michael and Max were going to stay with Liz and Maria. He showed them the doors to his bedroom, to Kyle’s and to his daughters’ one.
They proceeded to the third floor. Alex told them it was nothing special. He had his office here and the entertaining rooms were here, too. He showed them the playroom, which had a big screen and there were certain play consoles from Playstation to X-Box and more. He brought them to the last room on the third floor: the home cinema.

*******************************************

Finishing the tour, Alex told them tomorrow he would show them the remaining parts of the house because he was getting hungry and he had to prepare dinner. Walking back into the living room, where the remaining friends sat Alex suggested they could have a BBQ. Every one agreed and the women and the twins went into the kitchen to prepare the salad, garlic bread and whatever they needed. Kyle, Max and Michael went outside to prepare the grill and Alex stayed in the kitchen to prepare the meat since he didn’t like it that others cook in his kitchen and to observe the women.

Thirty minutes later all were sitting outside in the garden. Alex did the grill and the others were sitting at the table. The backyard was as beautiful as the frontyard. It was wide open and it was divided into a pool area and a BBQ area. There were sitting in a roofed porch section. There was a fridge with drinks, a large dining- table, a stereo system and the grill. The rest of the garden was covered in flowers and it was palm- lined. They had an amazing time during the BBQ. It almost felt like then when they were teenagers. They were laughing and telling Michelle and Katie stories from their school time. It was normal for once.

*******************************************

It was late at night. She couldn’t sleep. She wasn’t used to have a quiet night. She wasn’t used to be near and also so far at the same time. She knew he wasn’t himself. She saw his smile. It was not his usual smile. She knew it. He wasn’t good. She saw the pain and sorrow in his eyes. She would always see it. Isabel was brought out of her thoughts as she heard someone was coming down into the kitchen. She didn’t expect that someone else couldn’t sleep either. She definitely didn’t expect to see him at 3am in the morning. As Alex was coming into view, Isabel thought she died. There he stood Alex Whitman just in a pair of blue boxer shorts. Isabel didn’t know if her heart was still beating. A half naked Alex stood there, as he saw her sitting at the table and drinking a cup of tea. He didn’t really know how to act. He stood there in his boxers and nothing else. He was used to run through his home like that. He didn’t expect to find someone else in the kitchen.

“Hey you’re still up. Can’t sleep or is the bed uncomfortable?”

Isabel was not sure how to respond. Her mouth was dry and she tried really hard not to stare at his upper body and further down. It would be very embarrassing to be caught. Forcing herself to look at his face and not at his well-built chest with the bit of chest hair and his very well defined abs, Isabel gripped the cup of tea tighter and told him that she just couldn’t sleep. She wanted to have a cup of tea and return to bed. As she was about to stand up, Alex gestured to her to stay sit. He went to the fridge and got himself a bottle of Orange Soda. She had to smile that he still drank it.

“I see, you still drink orange Soda. I think it was the first time today.”

“Well, I like my steak with a cold beer and when I’m still up at such a late time I enjoy a soda. Your parents will come back this weekend and they head straight here. I just wanted to tell you.”

Isabel was overwhelmed. She didn’t think that she would her parents her soon. Maria told her in a couple of days but not that soon. She feared they didn’t want to see her. Maybe they would reject her.

“They love you and Max. Nothing could ever change that. Parents will always love their children no matter what. They will always be there for them even if you don’t need them but you will. Don’t be scared of them. They love you, Isabel.”

Isabel was startled by Alex’ words. She didn’t realize that he was sitting opposite her. As she let his words sink in a smile crossed her facial features. Isabel thanked him for his kind words. Alex told her it was that what parents do. She should never doubt her parents’ love. They sat in silence and were lost in their own thoughts. As Isabel finished her cup, she told Alex that he had great girls. Alex replied that they are the best and his everything he would do anything for them. He added that he was glad that they didn’t inherit some of his habits. Isabel couldn’t stop the words, which left her mouth.

“And they didn’t inherit your ears. For girls it would be very hard.”

“Isabel, I think you aren’t in the position to talk about big body parts.”

As he said those words Alex’ gaze went to Isabel’s breasts. With a good night and a smugly smile Alex went back to his bedroom leaving a dumbfounded Isabel behind.

Thanks for the FB. I am very glad that you all liked the kitchen scene. I want to have the story a little bit funny and not only on the dramatic side. I have a new part and I excuse if it is too short because normally I write longer parts for this story.

Sternbetrachter: Good to know you liked Isabel’s thoughts. In that scene, Tess really was the only one who noticed the drooling. I assure you more drooling will follow. Well, we have to wait until we get an happy Gazer ending. Alex had to suffer a lot and after losing your wife it takes time to open up to someone.

Killjoy: Thanks for your FB. Happy that I could make you laugh. It was a lot of fun to write the scene. Even when I thought of that line, I had to laugh. You as Lamptrimmer -there will be some more K/T moments- but hush. Don’t tell anyone.

Flamehair: Thanks for your FB. As I said before, I hope you had a good laugh.

KaraGail: Thanks for FB and it means a lot to me that this was one of the best lines you had read so far. THANKS! If Michelle and Katie will help A/I to get together…I don’t know. We have to wait and see what happens.

Timelord31: thanks for your FB

Cameramandc and Rim: here is the next part

Allie Axie: Vacation is over

Kittens: Well, the life on Antar isn’t really important in this story. Maybe in some parts I will include the life on Antar but it is not that important. Sorry if I disappoint you.

CHAPTER IV

She sat there glued to her spot. She couldn’t believe what he said. In addition, she definitely couldn’t believe that he had looked at her chest. He never did that before. The Alex Whitman she knew had never done such a thing. That was the problem, she only knew the teenage boy Alex Whitman but she didn’t know the man Alex Whitman. There was no doubt that he still was that caring, loving and funny person he was back then. It was hard to see that person. As the eight friends had spent the evening together, he wasn’t very open. He didn’t really talk much and he listened more to the others. Sure, he was playing with his girls and taking care of them. Tonight, she saw the man Alex Whitman had become after ten years. She didn’t see him growing into this man. She didn’t see anything of his life. She didn’t really know his life of the last ten years but she still loved him like twelve years ago. As she entered his dream and seeing the look in his eyes whenever he looked at her then that look was reality when they got closer. She realized that he was more than a friend. She loved everything about him and then he left because of her. She hurt him back then. She had pushed him away.

No matter what she did, he was always there until he had left.

Then it was her time to leave. Leaving him. It was her leaving that’s why she wasn’t able to see Alex the boy becoming Alex the man. He changed.

Therefore, she couldn’t believe what had happened in the kitchen. It wasn’t the shock about him staring at her breasts it was more the fact that he had done it.

No one being to let him off the hook so easily, Isabel decided to go to him now and telling him what she thought of his remark and the way he was acting. Isabel Evans was a woman on a mission. Walking up to his room, she knocked and waited for him to open the door. As he did, again Isabel had to fight very hard to not checking him out. The sight of a half-naked Alex C. Whitman standing in front of her was a sweet torture. Almost forgetting why she came to him, Isabel was ready to give him a piece of her mind.

“I don’t know what happened down there in the kitchen but how can you sit there and stare at my…my breasts and all the time wearing that smugly look. I don’t know when you got so bold but you never did that, ever. And let me tell you, you have huge ears and…and…and huge ears aren’t nice for girls. Finally, I want to add that I don’t have huge body parts. Everything I have fits my body structure. I hope you got it.”

Inwardly Isabel winced at her speech. It sounded so childish, girlish, and senseless. She had prepared everything so well and then he stood in front of her in his boxers. Suddenly feeling weak in her knees, Isabel forgot all about her speech. Even her voice didn’t sound that confident and convincing as she had hoped. Still looking at Alex, Isabel saw that he wasn’t very impressed by her appearance. Instead, he looked more smugly and he dared to smirk. His smirk was sexy but so unwanted in that moment that she wished she could wipe it off.

“Isabel, nice to see you again at this late hour, at my door. How about you come in and we speak here. I don’t want that the others hear us and I definitely don’t want that my six year old daughters hear our conversation about the female and male anatomy.”

Alex sounded so convinced and full of himself that Isabel was really considering to give him again a piece of her mind. But she had to admit that he was right. She didn’t want the others to hear their conversation and she also didn’t want that Michelle and Katie could hear them. Seeing Alex stood aside so she could enter his Master bedroom, she passed past him and stood in the middle of the room. She heard he closed the door, Isabel turned around to face him as she did she hadn’t realized until then that he stood just a few feet away. If she wanted to, she could touch him but then what would happen. He was near. She wasn’t sure what to say. She was in his bedroom and her rational thoughts were still in the hall and not with her in his room.

“So Isabel, you wanted to talk about our body parts. Do you want to compare the size?”

“WHAT!?”

“Well, you come to my room and telling me something about your breasts and what happened downstairs. What do you want, Isabel?”

How could she respond? She could tell him that she wanted him. All she wanted was he. It was a one shot opportunity.

“I want you. All I ever wanted was being with you; hold by you, live with you. I never wanted anyone else. I didn’t stop thinking about you when I was away. You were all the time on my mind. Alex, I loved you since we had the date at the soap factory. I never stopped.”

Her words were so soft, he almost couldn’t hear her. Almost. He stood there facing her. The girl he had known for so long, standing in front him was the woman she had become. He was speechless. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know what to say. How could he react? He didn’t know. It was then that he felt her lips on his. So soft and warm. The passion and love she felt for him, which she wanted to purr into this kiss. She wanted to show him what she felt for him. He didn’t respond. His lips weren’t moving. Isabel wanted to let go and run into her room. She wanted to hide and not facing him for a very long time. As she was about to let go, she felt his arms snaking around her and pulling her closer to his body. He kissed her back. He captured her lips in a passionate lip lock. It would be an understatement to say that Isabel was surprised but she was more than happy about that progression.

Their hands were roaming over the other’s body. Everywhere they could reach. Slowly Alex navigated them towards the bed. His hands were under the blouse of Isabel’s pyjamas, caressing the skin he felt. He eased them down on his bed. Her hands were roaming his back, his chest and sometimes Isabel had to grab his buttocks. She wanted more. She needed more. His hands were there where she wanted them to be. He undid the buttons of her blouse. Kissing down her neck and having his hands on her bare breasts were heavenly for Isabel. That is what she wanted.

They stopped kissing. Looking into each other’s eyes. It was then as he was about to say the words she longed to hear.

“Isabel…Isabel…ISABEL..wake up.”

*********************************************

Why did his voice sound like Tess’? Why wasn’t she anymore in Alex’ arms? Why didn’t she feel his lips on hers and her skin?

“Isabel, come on you need to get up. We have to do a lot today. You don’t want to let Alex waiting for us and for you, do you?”

Tess couldn’t help herself to ask the latter question in a sickening sweet voice. She could imagine why Isabel wasn’t up yet. Having heard her moans, gave Tess a good idea what she dreamt about.

It wasn’t the voice she wanted to hear when she would awake. She listened to Tess’ voice. Isabel opened her eyes and saw a smirking Tess Harding towering over her. Groaning Isabel turned around and buried her face deeper into her pillow. It was all a dream. A dream she wanted back. If Tess hadn’t disturbed her wonderful dream, maybe Alex and her had… It was just a dream. After what had happened in the kitchen, Isabel decided to go to bed. As she entered the dreamland, she relived the scene again and would have happened if she had had the guts to walk up to his room.

Deciding it is time to get up-like Tess said they have a lot to do today- and she really didn’t want to be late. Finally getting up, Isabel sat up in her bed and looked at her friend. Tess sat next to Isabel and asked the question Isabel didn’t want to answer.

“Did you have sweet dreams?”

In that moment, Isabel wanted to grab her pillow and smack Tess with it and wipe off that Harding smirk. She wasn’t in the mood for any jokes. She wasn’t a morning person but seeing that it was 7:30am was not helping to increase her mood. Groaning again, Isabel just wanted to take a shower.

“Uh huh.”

“How far did you go? I mean, hearing the little sounds you were making, I assume it was very...satisfying.”

“I need a cold shower.”

With that said, Isabel walked into the bathroom, which was attached to her bedroom.

*******************************************

Coming out of the bathroom, Isabel saw Tess still sitting on her bed. Not really in the mood for any discussion on this morning, Isabel ignored the questioning look Tess was giving her and walked passed her. Seeing that Isabel wasn’t going to tell her anything, Tess grabbed Isabel by her arm and led her back to the bed.

“Tell me. NOW!”

“What?”

“You know what.”

“Tess, there is nothing…”

“Isabel Amanda Evans, don’t you dare to tell me that there is nothing. Tell me what put you into that foul mood. Especially, I want to know why you were moaning his name.”

“I so didn’t…Oh god I was moaning his name. I can’t believe that you heard me.”

“Oh come on Isabel, relax and take a deep breath and tell Dr. Tess what happened and I would love to hear all the details.”

Ten years ago, Isabel hadn’t tell a single soul what was bothering her. She wasn’t ready to open up to anyone. She was afraid of being close to anyone. She was afraid that they could see that she wasn’t that confident and icy girl. She was more vulnerable than any girl she knew. She couldn’t confide in anyone. Then Alex came. Then she left. Tess was the only person she could confide in. Isabel told Tess what had happened in the kitchen. After Isabel told Tess the whole kitchen story, Tess couldn’t help herself bursting out laughing. It was too funny that good old Alex had done that. She could practically imagine Isabel’s expression sitting alone in the kitchen as Alex left her.

“Tess, stop laughing. It is not funny.”

“Okay, okay. I can’t believe that. Where was I when that happened? Come on let’s go and have breakfast.”

AN: I wanted to thank for the feedback you left. I thought it would be funny having Isabel being the one, who needed to cool down after a dream. Isabel could go and fulfilling her dream and desire but she also has to think about Alex. Isabel would be ready but what about Alex. If he isn’t ready after his wife died. Time will show.

Thanks to Sternbetrachter, Flamehair, Allie Xie and killjoy.

HAPPY STARGAZER DAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO COLIN & KATIE!!!
______________

CHAPTER V

It would be the first morning in years that they would have breakfast with their friends. Both Tess and Isabel felt a little bit nervous. They were afraid. They knew it was not necessary but they couldn’t help themselves. They didn’t know what to expect.

Tess didn’t know how to feel. She didn’t tell anyone but she was scared of Kyle. She didn’t think he would hurt her but he was hurting. He lost so much in ten years. He lost his family. She lost him. She still didn’t know how to approach him. He kept his distance as if he was unsure how to act around her. Of course, it was upsetting her but what could she do. He lost his family. First, his mother left him when he was a kid, then his father died after he himself had been shot. It was wrong. She wanted to be there for him now. He was her only family. Sure, she loved Max, Isabel and Michael and they had become very close during their time on Antar but Kyle was her true family. He was the only family she knew.

She wanted to be close to him. She wanted more. As a teenager, she wanted to be with him but she had realized it too late. After chasing Max and noticing, he didn’t want her. She wanted to leave but she slowly fell for Kyle. However, it was too late; she left. She didn’t want to but she had to. In all those years, she missed him. She longed for him. She had needed him back on Antar. She was so scared there. She needed him but it couldn’t be. It shouldn’t be. It hasn’t been meant to be. He was her strength. At the same time, he was her weakness. She had never believed that one man could turn her life upside down.

Now, after ten years, it was all the same. The moment she saw him, everything changed. Everything was back. Her feelings for him. Her longing. Her desire. Her fear. Ten years changed everything. Ten years changed her. She was not anymore that girl from then. She was a woman.

Like the others, she had lost enough. She lost time. She lost the man she had wanted for so long.

Maybe now, after all this long time, she had a new chance. Maybe.

Isabel’s thoughts drifted off to her teenage days. When she had had breakfast with her parents and Max. She wished her parents were already here. She needed to see them to know that everything was alright. She needed to see them to know that everything was going to be alright. She wanted normalcy.

She was still unsure how to act around her human friends. She had to get used to them. Certain they all changed and that scared her. They weren’t teens anymore, they were adults. Isabel was brought out of her thoughts as her brothers and their girlfriends stepped out of their rooms.

“Morning Isabel, Tess.”

“Morning Guys. Liz , Maria.”

There was a change in Michael’s and Max’ behaviour. They looked happy and at ease. They looked free and careless. Well, they were with the ones they loved. It was clear visible that Max and Michael found the peace and happiness with the two women they loved.

There was never the doubt that Michael Guerin loved Maria DeLuca. Sure, they had had the strangest relationship you could imagine. They had been arguing. They had been breaking up so many times that a normal person stopped counting. Nevertheless, you could see that they loved each other very much. They needed each other. Now, after ten years they were finally together. Michael wore a little smile and his right arm was thrown over Maria’s shoulder. Michael Guerin found his happiness in the arms of Maria DeLuca. Now, he had all he wanted and it would be more. He had love, joy, happiness and the peace, which he looked for his whole life. As a teenager, Michael did everything to not be attached to anyone but Max and Isabel. Then some day he abducted Maria and he was lost to her and vice versa. He pushed her away to keep her save but it hadn’t helped. He couldn’t stay way from her. Even after ten years, he couldn’t stay way. He needed her as much as she needed him.

The little group was having a nice conversation in the hall as they heard somebody coming around the corner. It was Alex, who had his Blackberry in his hand. He had put his Blackberry away in and saw the little group.

“Morning.”

With that said, Alex went past the group. Isabel was stunned. Never ever has she seen him so distant. He just walked past them. She thought maybe they could reconnect their friendship but if Alex was going to shun them and ignore them she didn’t think there was a chance to be near him. It was that thought, which also scared her. She would lose him again. Finally, after having him back in her life as a friend, she was scared to lose him, again. The thought that Alex didn’t want his former High School friends back in his life scared her. She wouldn’t know what to do. Her eyes followed him as he walked up to a door. His back was still turned to them. She was watching him intense. Even the others looked at him. He just stood a few feet in front of a door. Isabel remembered that the door belonged to one of his daughters.

Alex’ next action confused Isabel; he held up his right hand and showed the occupants of the hall three fingers. He started to count.

“1…2…3.”

As he stopped counting, the door was thrown open and the next thing you saw was Michelle Whitman jumping into the arms of her dad. Giggling and holding her father close in a hug, having her arms tightly around Alex’ neck; Michelle greeted her father and the others.

“Morning Daddy. Morning Auntie Liz, Auntie Maria, Auntie Tess, Auntie Izzy, Uncle Max and Uncle Mike.”

“Morning pumpkin. Next time you say good morning. Take some breaths. You start to sound like your Auntie Maria.”

That statement caused Michelle to break out in little giggles and even Michael couldn’t hold back his amusement. It stopped as Maria whacked him upside the head. Michelle thought that her aunt and her uncle were very funny. Alex walked up to Isabel and the others.

“Ha-ha Alex, I almost forget how funny you are.”

“I know that’s why I remind you. Well, we are complete and we can have breakfast. Kyle and Katie are already downstairs in the kitchen.”

Alex led the others downstairs with Michelle in his arms, who was looking at the Pod Squad and making funny faces.

Isabel admired the sight of Alex and Michelle. It was hope and a bit of peace, she felt.

**********************************************

He still couldn’t believe that she was back. Ten years, it was ten years ago that a part of his family left him. Sometimes he believed she was the only person, who kept him sane and on the other hand could drive him insane. She was the person, who showed him what a family could be. He loved her once. Then she left him. Again, he was alone. It was hard for him to get used to the fact that she wasn’t there. She was the only one who understood him. She made him feel. She had made him complete.

“Uncle Kyle, do you think they need more time until they get downstairs?”

He had a family. They were everything he had. Kyle couldn’t stop smiling at the little girl in front of him. Katie and he just had finished setting the table for breakfast. He assured his little niece that her father, her sister soon would be downstairs. Just as he spoke the words, everyone else appeared in the kitchen. Everyone but Alex took a seat, who grabbed his apron and started making breakfast. He asked what everybody wants to eat. There were several calls for pancakes, Belgian waffles and omelettes. The Pod Squad was a little surprised that Alex was going to cook on his own. Max couldn’t suppress his curiosity and asked Alex why he was the only one cooking. Max still remembered Alex saying that he was the only one cooking in his kitchen. Alex looked at him; a sad smile graced his lips as the man remembered the circumstances.

“My wife wasn’t really the best cook in the world. Not when I met her in college and later in our marriage. So, since I worked as a cook before going to college and even later in a little diner on campus, I did the cooking. Why I am the only one cooking? Well…honestly, Katie, Parker and Deluca aren’t the greatest cooks and now add your dear mother with her spare cooking skills and the result is my almost burnt-down kitchen. That’s why I don’t let anyone, I apologize for my chauvinism, and any women cook in my kitchen. Period.”

“Point taken.”

“You are kidding. Four grown up women almost burnt down a kitchen. Four women.”

Tess couldn’t believe what she heard. It was too funny and Tess bursted out laughing. Max and Kyle followed her. Isabel tried very hard to stop the giggles, which were erupting. Liz and Maria sat in their seats pouting. They didn’t think it was funny. It was very embarrassing. Michael was smirking and couldn’t stop the remark, which left his mouth.

“Figures that DeLuca burns down a house. She would even burn water…”

Smack!

“OW. What the he…”

“Watch your language, Michael, there are kids in this room.”

“But Maria, I am certain that Liz and Kyle heard such words…”

Smack!

“OW. What was that for now? That hurt. Ten years and you are still violent.”

Maria didn’t reply, she just smirked at him. Alex came over to the table with plates full of pancakes, waffles, omelettes and bacon and everyone served himself. Seeing his friends and family sitting together and laughing gave him a good feeling. He missed this. Already he felt sorrow, remembering the past. The sadness engulfed him. Alex was brought out of his thoughts as he heard the giggling of his daughters. He loved seeing them laughing and happy. He would do anything for them to make them happy.

“What’s so funny, girls?”

“Auntie Maria and Uncle Mike.” Both answered in union.

Alex had to chuckle at their statement. It was true Maria and Michael were together funny. He didn’t know why maybe they seemed to be an odd couple. Alex remembered them as teenagers. When they had worked together in the Crashdown, some people just came to see the ‘DeLuca- Guerin show’. They arguing was annoying but Alex knew they loved each other deeply. It broke his heart as the aliens left seeing how the leaving was affecting Maria. Seeing them now together, it wasn’t different. They loved each other. That’s all that matters.

“Yeah…yeah…They are funny. Ten years and nothing changes.”

“Stop Alex. You know we weren’t always like that...”

“True I forgot sometimes they shout at each other. Others would talk but your Auntie Maria and Uncle Michael like to be loud.”

The little banter between Maria and Alex amused the other occupants at the table. Michelle and Katie thought it was funny. The girls knew that it was a long time ago that their father was carefree like now. They knew he missed their mother. Sensing what the other wanted to ask, both wanted to know about their parents before their mother passed away.

“Daddy, mommy and you were like Auntie and Uncle?”

The question surprised him. The question felt like a sting to his heart. It hurt. It hurt to think about his wife. Sometimes he would look at the door and hope that she would come through the door hugging and kissing him. Telling him that she loved him and she would never leave him. But it was just his imagination. It was a dream, which will never come true. Alex knew that his daughters wanted to know as much as possible about their mother. It hurt to see his daughters growing up without their mother. He tried very hard to be there for them substituting their mother. It wasn’t possible, he could never substitute her.

He felt their eyes on him. He knew they waited for his answer. Trying to ignore the pain he felt and hoping that his voice wasn’t giving away the emotions he felt, Alex answered his daughters.

“No…uhm…we weren’t like them. The only time I was loud was when I wanted to make your mommy laugh. She had the most beautiful laugh I heard. I always had to laugh with her. Even when she was laughing about me. There were other times that we were shouting at each other but it always last for a few minutes and everything was alright in the end. Then she would…”

Alex was lost in his memories. The memories of happier days made impossible to speak further. His voice cracked. He couldn’t tell more. His eywes welled up with tears. It hurt too much. It would open wounds he tried to let heal over the years. Michelle and Katie smiled at their father they knew it hurt. It also hurt them to know that they would never get to know their mother.

Katie got up from her seat and walked over to Alex wanting to sit in his lap. Alex pushed the sorrow away. He needed to be strong for his girls. They needed him. Alex grabbed Katie and sat her in his lap. She buried her face deep in his chest not wanting to leave her fathers side by any time soon. Alex wrapped his arms around her holding her close. The others at the table tried very hard to not let the tears run. Liz and Maria weren’t good at that. It still hurt them to think about their lost friend and seeing Alex all by himself trying to be strong for his family. They knew it was a daily battle for Alex keeping his focus on his daughters. They knew how much he had suffered after his wife had passed away and how much he was still suffering.

Michael, Max, Tess and Isabel didn’t know what to do.

Isabel somehow had the feeling that Alex didn’t often speak about his wife. She couldn’t imagine what he felt. She couldn’t imagine how much he struggled with himself to stay strong for his daughters. She couldn’t imagine the inner battles he had fought for the last three years. As he spoke about his wife and the time they shared, Isabel could hear the love in his voice. The way he spoke, the way his look softened, the way he longed for his wife. Nevertheless, the knowledge that his wife would never come back was mirrored in his eyes. He was going to break down some time and Isabel could do nothing. As she saw Katie walking up to her father to soothe him, Isabel could see that the girls knew their father too good. They knew it hurt him to speak about their mother. The scene in front of her hurt her and at the same time touched her.

Alex needed to be strong for his daughters.

That was all that mattered.

**********************************************

After finishing his breakfast, Alex asked the Pod Squad to come to his office when they finish. He had some things to discuss with them and other stuff to deal with. Almost thirty minutes later, the four aliens sat in front of Alex, who was still on the phone probably talking to a business friend. As Alex had finished his phone call, he looked at his friends without saying anything. He just looked at them and the other fours were becoming more and more uncomfortable under his intense gaze.

The silence was suffocating. The aliens didn’t know what to expect. They didn’t know what to say or what to do. Max was going to be the first to say something. Since he reunited with his friends and his love, the subject was bothering him. He wanted to know and he needed to know about Kyle.

“Alex, there is something I wanted to speak with you about Kyle and his injuries…”

Alex didn’t let him finish he knew what Max wanted to say. He knew what Max wanted to do, healing Kyle. Alex would do everything in his power to give Kyle the ability to walk back. As much as it hurt, Alex couldn’t let Max do it. It wasn’t like ten years ago. They were grown ups. They were having lives outside the Alien Abyss. To be honest, Alex didn’t want to go back. He had children to think about. Sometimes you need to be selfish and Alex needed to be selfish because of his daughters. He had to keep them save.

“Stop right here Max. Now I want you to listen to me very good. I know you want to help Kyle. I know it hurts to see a friend suffering. I know that all. I have seen it with my eyes how Kyle changed four years ago. I know that all but, if I have the chance to change anything of that I would do it but I can’t. You will not lay your hands on Kyle and heal him. You will not heal him. What do you think will happen after Kyle can walk again? What shall he say his doctors, who keep files about his case? Dammit, they get suspicious and start investigating. How shall we explain that? If you should really try to do it then go get your stuff and get the hell out of my house and never ever contact me. I have children to care for. I am not a teenager anymore and let my life get out of control. Are we clear?”

To say that Max and the others were surprised about Alex’ outburst would be an understatement. The way he spoke to them and how his voice sounded caught them off guard. His voice was cold and angry and had a sting of bitterness. Alex didn’t want to hurt anyone but they had to understand that everything had changed. He wasn’t going to anything to endanger his family. However Max didn’t want to back down. Moreover, the others couldn’t believe that Alex would really ban them out of his life. They couldn’t believe that he would go that far.

“Alex, I can help him. I know…”

“Did you hear a fucking word I have said? For four years, Kyle is sitting in the wheelchair because a bullet had split his spine. There are records about him. Do you think Kyle is going to his doctors suddenly standing up and crying ’It is a wonder I can walk. Thank Buddha.’ Are you that delusional? What about Maria and Liz? I see it in their eyes that they are happy to have you all back. They can include you in their lives. Max, there are things you can’t change even if you have the power to do so. You just can’t walk around and change the things around you how they ought to be in your opinion. You just can’t do that. I mean if you are going to fuck up then leave my house and never come back. I have to think about my children and keep them safe.”

Not liking how that discussion ended Max backed off saying he didn’t want to lose them as friends just as they got them back. It was hard to just sitting there and watching that their lives changed and it wasn’t all for the better. It wasn’t Max’ intention to anger Alex but he just wanted to help. He hoped he could give something back. True to be told, Max didn’t think about the consequences for the others. He forgot that they had lives outside the world of aliens. He forgot that things had changed without the aliens. He wanted to be a part of their lives. Seeing that Max and the others understood the situation, Alex began the talk with his friends.

“Fine, now that we discussed that let’s get to the good stuff. After you had left, Mr Evans and I decided to take all your money and invest it in different investment funds. So now, ten years later, Ladies and Gentleman you are rich. Phillip has made sure that the papers are legal. Taxes are paid. You can do with the money whatever you want. You just have to sign papers so the banking accounts can be redefined and by next week, you have your credit cards.”

Max, Isabel, Michael and Tess didn’t know what to say. They surely hadn’t expect that Alex and Phillip Evans had arranged everything for a life after returning back. As if they had known they were coming back someday. Isabel and Max were speechless and touched that their father had done that for them and the others. He truly believed that they’re coming back. Michael didn’t know what to say. He had never thought if he would come back that he didn’t have to worry about money. Alex gave them the papers to look at them and later to sign. He truly was happy for them, coming back having some security back. Alex knew that it meant a lot for Max and Isabel that their father had cared for them. After the four aliens had composed themselves, Alex handed them over mobile phones and laptops. Alex told them they would need them because nowadays everything was done through the world wide web.

***********************************************

Finishing his talk with Michael and Max, Alex asked the two men to leave him and the women alone. He wanted to talk to Isabel and Tess alone.

Isabel was nervous. She didn’t know what Alex wanted and that scared her more than ever. Actually there was nothing to talk about, which include there future whereabouts. Maybe Alex wanted them to leave. She didn’t know. Even by looking at him, she couldn’t read his expression. She couldn’t read him like she used to ten years ago. As they were teenagers, she just needed to look at him and Isabel had known what he felt, what he wanted and what he needed. Now, she couldn’t read the man in front of her. She knew that the boy Alex Whitman didn’t change much as he had grown into the man he was now. The boy was still there. She knew he was still there. he just needed to come out.

Alex had found it difficult to phrasing his request. He knew it would be the right thing to do but he wasn’t sure if the two women in front decline or didn’t decline his offer. His nervousness was getting to him. He just had to say the words and then wait for their reactions. That would be the most difficult task: waiting. Taking a deep breath, Alex asked them.

“Well, I want to talk to you about living arrangements. I assume that Michael and Max will go to Albuquerque for living with Liz and Maria. That’s why I think it would be a good idea if you two would move in with Kyle, the girls and me. I mean, Tess I know you are the closest to a family Kyle has and I think you need him and vice versa. It would be great having you here and Kyle would be happy that a part of his family is here with him after his father had passed away. Isabel, it would be great for you because when your parents are in town they also live here. Moreover, I think it would be great for Michelle and Katie having female company here. I know they would like that. Diane always tells them stories about you all and the girls ask about you two. It seems they already love their newfound aunts. In addition, I don’t want that you live by yourself somewhere.”

He was rambling like a teenager. He never rambled. It never happened to him. Moreover, he was nervous.

Isabel was surprised. She didn’t think he would ask them to move in with him and his daughters. It was more than a surprise. The thought about living with Alex under the same roof was fantastic. She could be near him. Before Isabel could answer, Tess beat her to that.

“Of course, we will. Thank you Alex, you won’t regret your decision.”

“Great. Then I think I show the rest of the house and we should get ready for our trip to L.A.”

“Ahm, what are we going to do in L.A.?”

“Shopping.”

With that said, Alex ushered the girls out of his office.

AN: Alex didn’t allow Max to heal Kyle because Alex would know the consequences. The story plays ten years after ‘Viva Las Vegas’. Back then, they were teenagers they could face everything and everyone as long as they were together. The teens just had to think about each other. Now ten years later, things change. They aren’t teenagers anymore. They are adults with lives outside the Alien Abyss. They have jobs, families and responsibilities. That’s what the aliens have to get used to that things have changed. Max can’t walk around and heal people because he thinks he just can do it like then. In that moment, he forgot the consequences for the others. Alex has his daughters; therefore, he wants to protect them. The healing would draw attention to Kyle and there wouldn’t be a correct explanation why a man suddenly can walk again who sat for four years in the wheelchair. Alex didn’t change into a control freak but he was mad that the aliens/Max thought it was all still the same. Nothing is the same like it was ten years ago.
Alex is still that high school boy we love but losing his wife had changed him. The boy still has to come out. I hope I could explain it. Honestly, I have plans for Kyle (won’t tell what).

Alright here is the long promised update. I know I am late with it. I am truly sorry that it had taken so much time for an update. Thanks to Flamehair, cameramandc and Timelord31 for the feedback. I hope you enjoy the new part.

CHAPTER VI

“Ahm, what are we going to do in L.A.?”

“Shopping.”

With that said, Alex ushered the girls out of his office. It was needless to say that both women were shocked and stunned. They didn’t know how to react. They knew Alex wanted to help them to get their life back and helping settling in but they didn’t want to depend on him. Out in the hall, they caught up with Michael and Max. Isabel didn’t see any reason for going to another state for having a fun time with her family.

“Why shopping? I mean we don’t need to go to L.A. to just to go shopping. Roswell is good and fine and I don’t see why flying to it…” Isabel tried to talk Alex out of his plans. Before Isabel could list any more reasons for not going on the trip, Alex interrupted her.

“Iz, relax, please. First off, I planned this trip for three weeks and that was before I knew that you all were coming back. Secondly, I have business to do there. I have to attend a press conference for the Rangers. In the evening, I will attend a dinner with business partners. So like I said relax and later enjoy the trip. We are all staying for three days. Of course, I hope that we will have a fantastic trip together. Are you fine with that, Isabel?”

Alex looked at Isabel as he spoke to the entire group. His voice sounded so warm and lovely in her ears that Isabel didn’t catch all Alex had said. After he called her ‘Iz’ Isabel tuned herself out and was lost in her own little world of Alex only saying her nickname, which he always used when they were teenagers. Finding her way back to the reality when she heard him say her name, again, his voice sounded so warm, lovely, and trustworthy. Isabel’s reaction was to give him slight nod and saying tenderly “Yeah, I’m fine with that”. She didn’t see Tess’ amused look and she definitely didn’t Michael’s and Max’ confused expressions. Explaining to Max and Michael what their little discussion was about, both men didn’t disagree with the trip. Alex wanted to show them the rest of the house. Last night he only showed them the main part of his house and now he was going to show them the other part. The group was about to go downstairs as Michael used this opportunity to get his question from last night answered.

“Alex you still didn’t answer my question from last night.”

“Which one would it be, Mr. Guerin?” Alex asked in a formal way and casting a side-glance at his friend.

“Come on you know which one I mean. I asked you how come that you own the NEW YORK RANGERS but you have avoided the question. I would appreciate if you could give me an answer.”

Alex stopped abruptly and turned around to face Michael. Alex didn’t say a word, he just looked at Michael. Slowly a smile graced Alex features being ready to give him an answer.

“I am sorry for not having answered your question the first time you asked me. As you may have noticed, I am a family person and as being one, I don’t like mixing my private life with my business life. When the girls are around me and someone asks something about my business life, I don’t answer. I just don’t like it. I really don’t know why I avoid questions about business. It’s just that my home is my resort to forget that whole stress and just relax with Michelle, Katie and Kyle. Now to answer your question, I always was a huge ice hockey fan. Being a computer whiz giving you the possibility to have the dream of being the next Bill Gates. Therefore, you start to make a ‘to-do-list’. My number three was to own an ice hockey team. I love the Rangers and they were my aim. That’s it.”

Alex replied with a shrug of his shoulders. He wasn’t uncomfortable talking about it but he didn’t know why everyone wanted to know. Alex knew that the most people had just thought of him as the geek and nothing else. Then seeing that he was such a sports fan and having his own team was quite a surprise and shock. He knew that his story wasn’t really exciting.

“Dude that is so cool. I mean the Rangers. You own the Rangers. The Rangers are…are the Rangers.”

Michael spoke with an excited voice, which was almost childlike. He wore a dreamy expression.

“Relax Michael, when there is a game and we’re in NY we will attend a game watching it from the Presidential Lounge. Maybe you can practice with the team, of course if you want.”

“That is so cool. The Rangers and I. I will practice with them. So cool.” Michael said with a far away, again being lost in his own little world where the Rangers ruled.

Alex wasn’t sure what to do because Michael seemed to be far away with his mind. Unsure what to do and not really knowing how to handle Michael right now, Alex became nervous and looked at the others for help. Tess whispered that something like that happened at Maria’s. There was no need to worry about Michael because any moment he should comeback to the real world. Max had other plans for his friend.

“Michael…Michael…Maria is wearing a skimpy bikini.”

It didn’t take a second and the statement had its desired effect: after the words had left Max’ lips immediately Michael whipped his head around trying to find Maria in her bikini. Alex was amused about Michael’s behaviour and couldn’t suppress his chuckle, Tess and Isabel followed with their own snickers.

“Alright, haha…yeah that was funny. How about we start the tour of Whitman Mansion.”

“Whitman Mansion, I like the sound of it.”

“Yeah, don’t get used to it Whitman.”

“Sure Guerin, whatever you say.”

“Oh God, they are doing this guy thing where they call each other by their last names. I always wondered why men would do something like that.” Tess whispered to Isabel who only replied with a shrug and a small smile. Of course, that little comment didn’t go unnoticed by the three men. Looking at each other, they replied that they could do that because they were men. The only answer Isabel and Tess gave was a roll of their eyes.

Together they walked into the kitchen seeing that Liz, Maria and Kyle were still enjoying their breakfast. Alex informed them that he was going to show the aliens the rest of the house. Therefore, last night Katie and Michelle didn’t go with their father they wanted to accompany him now. Never being one to deny his children any wishes, Alex immediately agreed to their request. The girls’ joy was expressed in jumping up and down. The twins immediately had run over to their father and had taken him by their hands dragging him out of the kitchen. Amused by the family’s antics, the Pod Squad walked behind father and daughters.

************************************************

They walked outside; Alex led them through a small path, which was covered with cobblestones. The path led to another building, which was a glasshouse. It had large windows made of polished sheet glass. Max asked what it was but Alex didn’t answer him. Max and the others should wait until they were inside. As the group reached the entrance of the building, Alex punched in a security code. Immediately, the group and the two little girls entered the building. They stood in a great hall. Alex led them through a door, which led them to a big locker room. There was a closet with towels. There were some lockers. On the other side of the room, there were racks with basketballs, soccer balls and baseball bats. The sports equipment caught Max’ and Michael’s curiosity, both men had a clue what Alex was going to show them and as Alex walked through a door, both alien men sprinted after their host. When they had walked through the door, the aliens found themselves in an indoor basketball hall. Alex explained that it was just a miniature version so for practicing and just having fun. While Alex was telling his friends that they had free access to the whole building while they were here. Michelle and Katie were running around the hall, pretending to throw hoops, and playing one-on-one. The girls encouraged the adults to play with them and immediately Michael ran over to Michelle grabbed her and kept her high up to the basket so that the little girl could ‘do’ a slam-dunk. Never being one to stay behind her sister, Katie pulled at Max’ sleeve and indicated to her uncle that they could do better than the others. Max wasn’t able to say no so he grabbed his little niece and run with her in his arms towards the basket then also kept her high up to the basket.

It was a funny scene seeing Max with Katie and Michael with Michelle running around having an imaginary basketball match. The girls were laughing and shouting at their uncles to go faster. The remaining three adults watched the scene in front of them with amusement. Alex was happy that his daughters accepted the addition to their little family. He knew that his children had trouble trusting people. They were closed off towards other adults beside Kyle, Liz, Maria and their grandparents. Alex assumed the reason was that the girls were afraid to be left, again. Experiencing the death of their mother in such a young age and growing up without a mother left his daughters closed off and suspiciously towards adults who they didn’t know. Alex hoped having the aliens back in their lives that Michelle and Katie would open up more to other people.

It was hard for Alex to watch his daughters because they had inherited so many character traits by their mother that it hurt Alex. It hurt knowing that Katie hadn’t got the chance to see what beautiful little girls they were and she hadn’t got the chance to see what for wonderful grown-up women her daughters would be someday. For Alex himself it wasn’t easier. The thought going alone to bed and waking up alone was tearing him up. Even after three years, Alex didn’t get over Katherine’s death. He still hoped to hear her laugh when he entered the house; waking up next to her and snuggling with her in the morning. That she would tell him about her day with the kids and just talk to him. Alex would give everything he had just to have her back in his life. He had spent seven years with Katherine then she was taken away from him. Before Alex got even more lost in his mournful thoughts the squealing and laughing of his daughters brought him back to the present time. It was quite a scene seeing Michelle and Katie chasing around Michael and Max, who were laughing.

The girls were happy and he would do anything in his power to keep them happy.

As Katie was running past her father and the alien women, Alex grabbed his daughter around her waist and plastered a big kiss on her cheek, which caused the girl to squeal more and imitating that gesture towards her father. A bit later, the group went to the other halls: the second hall was a baseball hall, which had four cages. Michael was very enthusiastic about it. To everybody’s surprise Tess was also enthusiastic about the hall. She admitted that she liked baseball and even once Kyle had taken her to a school game. The last hall was a soccer hall. The floor was covered with synthetic turf. Alex explained that the girls loved soccer that’s why there was a little hall for them. Michelle and Katie played in the school team; sometimes some teammates came over and they would play together here while Kyle and he would supervise the girls.

Taking Michelle and Katie by their hands Alex led them and the other adults out of the gymnasium. They walked together back to the main house where Kyle, Liz and Maria were waiting for them. As they came through the door, Michael and Max walked straight to their girlfriends telling them enthusiastically what Alex had showed them. Michael was very excited to tell Maria that if given the chance he would have a day practicing with the NEW YORK RANGERS. Maria wasn’t really crazy about that idea. In her opinion, ice hockey was a brutal sport. She had been to some games with Alex and after seeing what was going on on the ice, Maria didn’t want to imagine her Spaceboy playing it.

“Alex, why did you promise Michael that he could train with the team? You know that the guys sometimes overdo their playing.”

“Overdo their playing? Come on Ria, Michael wants to do it and if he doesn’t like it or it is too much for him, he can stop whenever he wants. And the guys aren’t brutal; well the last game was an exception.”

That statement caught Michael’s attention. Sure, he wanted to have this day with the Rangers but he wanted to finish this day in one piece and not collecting his teeth. So he was worried that Alex’ offer was going to mean bodily harm to him.

“What exactly happened at the last game?” Michael asked a bit afraid about the revelations.

“Nothing.” was Alex’ quick reply, while Maria and Liz started to snicker. Those snickers were worrying Michael more and more.

“Let me tell you: two broken noses, one broken jaw, one broken orbital bone and one broken arm. In addition, many knocked out teeth were found on the ice after the game had to be cancelled. Those are the injuries of the guest team players while one player of the Rangers has got himself a little bruise on his right cheek. That’s why you should really think about wanting to practice with them, Michael.”

“It was not that bad. I am the boss. I can tell them to go easy on you, Michael.” Alex pouted.

“Be a soldier, Michael.” Was Kyle’s input to the whole the discussion.

Finally, the discussion about Michael’s ice hockey experience was finished so Alex suggested that everybody should go and get their luggage. It was time to head to the airport.

*************************************************

The Pod Squad was very surprised to see Alex’ executive jet, which had an extravagant interior: the seats were made of leather; there was a big screen and it had a mahogany furnishing. Everything you wanted could be found. It just showed that Alex really made it. Max and Michael were every enthusiastic about all the little gadgets that they found
For their journey, Alex had taken care of everything: making sure that everybody was comfortable, that there was enough of the favourite drinks and food. He definitely made sure that there was enough Tabasco on board.

Max and Liz snuggled together admiring the view out of the window they had. They were happy to get out of Roswell and going to a city where no one knew them. They could refresh their relationship. Finally, after ten years they were back together. There was nothing that could break them up. They would take this new chance.
Max was finally there where he wanted to be back in the life of Liz Parker. In the last ten years, he saw so much misery and sorrow that the thought of Liz was the only thing, which had kept him go on. He wished so many times that he could hold her in his arms. Now, his dream came true. He was with her and he would make sure to stay there. He would have the life he wanted for so many years, having Liz Parker by his side. Of course, Liz had her life and her work, which consumed her time but Max hoped that there was still time for him. They had to catch up the last ten years. However, Max knew they would make it. They were together and that mattered.

Looking over to Michael and Maria, they just sat in their seats holding hands. Maria was leaning her head on his shoulder. Maria had still trouble believing that Michael was back in her life. Ten years without her Spaceboy had taken its toll on her. The worry and hurt had eaten her away. She couldn’t think straight and was afraid for him not knowing what was happening with Michael and the others. Now, her only worry was about how sweet her life was going to be with Michael being back. Maria sometimes thought it was a dream, Michael being with her. However, it was all true: Michael was back and he was hers, for a very long time. That’s the way it would be.

It was a quiet flight.

Michelle was taking a nap. Her sister and father were seated opposite her. Alex was reading something to Katie, who was smiling the whole time. He imitated the voices and made funny sounds. They were in their little world not realizing that they were watched.

Isabel felt warm and dizzy.

It was Alex. It was always Alex. Having him around her had always that effect on her. He made her feel. She liked what he did to her but she had been afraid then. She was afraid that she wasn’t enough for him and he deserved better than her. A woman who would cherish him, give him the love he deserved. Isabel wanted to be the woman by his side but it wasn’t possible. Her fear was stronger than her faith in herself. Back then, she believed that no one was able to love her and wouldn’t see the real Isabel. She was wrong. He loved her despite the way she treated him and how many times she had hurt him. He saw her and he wasn’t afraid. He loved her even more. He was there for her. Then she left. Ten years, she couldn’t stop thinking of him. Wondering what he would do, if he would think of her, if he was happy or if he was alone. He wasn’t.

On the one hand, Isabel was happy that he found love. He was a special man. He deserved everything and more. He deserved the happiness he had found so many years ago. But seeing the man in front of her, Isabel knew that he had lost a peace of his heart the day his wife passed away. She knew he wasn’t anymore the boy she knew. He was a grown up man who lost so much. There was one thing that would never change being the loving and caring Alex Whitman. Seeing him with his daughters, she knew that he was happy.

On the other hand, Isabel was hurt that he had moved on. That he didn’t wait for her so that they could have been together when she had come back. He didn’t wait for her. It hurt. She really thought that he would wait for her. Sure, her thoughts were selfish. She didn’t want to think that if he had wait so they could be together because that would mean that he wouldn’t have Michelle and Katie. They were his everything. Maybe it wasn’t their time. Maybe someday their time would come.

Maybe.

CHAPTER VII

The rest of the flight was quiet. Isabel observed the others and she had to admit she was happy. She was happy for Max and Michael. After such a long time, it was good to see that her brothers were finally happy. They were in the arms of their loved ones. Michael wore a smile that she never saw before. It was Maria. The feisty girl made the brooding alien happy. Truth had to be told that Michael and Maria were an odd couple. They were definitely the loudest couple. Their screaming and yelling matches were famous but also their love for each other was famous.

It was a long journey for them but Michael would do anything for his beloved. He would protect Maria with his life and love her with everything he needed to give her. Back then as teenagers, he tried his best to be the boyfriend she wished him to be. Sometimes it was too much for him because he didn’t know how to be the man she wanted. It took Michael time to realize that he didn’t need to force this development, he just needed to be himself, respecting and charring his Maria. He needed to show her that he would be there for her no matter what happened. He needed her. No matter how often they had yelled at each other; no mater how they had hurt each other, in the end they loved each other. They were a strange couple but they were finally happy.

Then there were Max and Liz as usual lost in their own world. They had been and always would be the ultimate couple in their circle of friends. It was true that they were soul mates. It was all in their eyes. Their love for each other was stronger than ever before. They had their difficulties but they found back together. It hurt to see that Max couldn’t find the happiness he wanted so bad. Isabel literally saw how much it changed Max not being able to be with Liz. He was supposed to be the king but how can you lead when you couldn’t lead your own life. On Antar, Max became harder and somewhat reckless but when you really looked at him, you saw the heartache and the sorrow in his eyes. Sorrow for the life he had left behind; sorrow for the girl he loved the most and would have never forgotten. It was changing Max being away from the ones he loved. Now being back and having Liz back, the old Max was back. He showed his love and his love was visible. He wasn’t any more the boy who had hid behind trees. He was the man he was supposed to become.

It was the pilot’s voice, which brought Isabel out of her musings. It was time to come back to the real world. For Isabel it meant to pine for the man she couldn’t have. Alex was near but so far away that Isabel didn’t know what to do.

*************************************************

It was a bit later as the group of aliens, humans and two children arrived at Alex’ beach house in Santa Monica. The aliens were surprised that this house was not as fancy as the mansion in Roswell but it was still big enough to give shelter for a big family. From the outside, the house just looked like a big white cube with windows. Therefore, the inside was a perfect mixture of white furniture and purple walls. Moreover, the look at the ocean was beautiful. The house had a huge porch, which was giving a perfect view from every ankle at the ocean. In addition, there was a big romp, which lead to the beach. The aliens assumed that the romp was built for Kyle

It was hard to describe why but as the four aliens saw their environment and the people they were with, in that moment they had realized that they were home. It felt real and right. Ten years of being apart from their loved ones were over and they were going to be with them forever.

Alex showed everyone their rooms so they could put their luggage in, refresh and relax a bit before the real stress was about to begin. It wasn’t much time left before Alex had to go to the press conference of the Rangers. Therefore, the whole group came together in the living room to discuss their day. As for Alex and the remaining men, they were going to spend the day together and meet later the girls at home. Alex suggested to have a little barbecue together in the evening before he had to leave for his business dinner. As for the four women and two little girls, it was going to be Girls Day with shopping.

Before anyone could leave the living room, Maria went to Alex and extended her hand with the palm up. Alex didn’t know what Maria wanted because she just stood in front of him with her extended hand but not saying a single word so he gave a handclap.

“Alex, you know what I want and I want it now. Make me happy.” Maria said to her tall friend, who just crocked an eyebrow and smirked at her.

“My oh my, I thought it’s Michael’s job to make you happy. So why don’t you go to your boyfriend?”

Alex was about to step around Maria but her hand on his chest stopped him. Now Alex was getting a bit annoyed, he had an appointment and didn’t want to be late. Somehow, Maria realized Alex change in his demeanour and told him fast what she wanted.

“Funny Alex…as usual, what I meant is you shall give us your Victoria Secret’s clients card. You know we are going to go shopping and we will probably need it. Give me the card, please. And don’t worry about Michelle and Katie, we are taking good care of them and won’t let anything happen to them. You have my word”

Trusting his friend and not wanting to waste any more time, Alex handed Maria his Victoria Secret’s clients card and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Alex motioned to Max, Michael and Kyle to come with him so they could leave. On his way out, Alex gave also Michelle, Katie and Liz a kiss on their cheeks and told them to have fun.

That Alex gave Maria and Liz kisses didn’t go unnoticed by Michelle and Katie, they thought it was odd that Isabel and Tess hadn’t got any kisses. It was somehow bizarre for the two little girls. In their opinion, everyone deserved a kiss from their daddy. It wasn’t right that their Aunt Tess and Aunt Isabel didn’t get a kiss. Michelle and Katie were going to make their daddy understand every girl deserved a kiss. Before Alex could walk away, his daughters called him.

“Daddy, you aren’t being nice.” The twins talked simultaneous.

Alex turned around and looked confused at his little girls. They were his everything, he loved them to death and he would do anything for them but sometimes they confused him so much that he didn’t know what they meant. As if they had their own little world and the girls were dragging him inside their world. Now he was lost because he didn’t know what he had done that would upset his daughters. Although he was already late for the conference, his daughters were his number one priority; he was going to find out what he had done or hadn’t done. Alex walked to Katie and Michelle and knelt down in front of them.

“What? I am always nice to everybody…especially to you two, my little pumpkins. So tell me, what did I do wrong…this time?”

It was Michelle, who answered her father. Her sister and she assumed that Alex had no clue but it was their right to have some fun with their dad. Moreover, since the other four adults arrived, Michelle and Katie had noticed that there was something weird about the new arrivals. Especially seeing how their dad and Uncle Kyle were behaving out of character towards their new aunts Tess and Isabel. They were somewhat distant and it seemed as if the two men didn’t know what to do with the women. The two little girls didn’t want that their aunts felt like outsiders. The girls loved it that their family had become bigger. In addition, they hoped that Alex would become happier. It was hard to see him being distant to other people. Both girls knew that he missed their mother and they wished their mom would be still with them but it wasn’t possible. As much as Alex tried to be strong for them, his little girls knew he needed someone by his side to heal.

“You didn’t give Aunt Isabel a good bye kiss and you forgot Aunt Tess, too. It isn’t nice to kiss everybody but leaving them out. We want them to feel home and by not kissing them that doesn’t make them feel home. Now kiss them.”

It would be an understatement to say that Alex was surprised by his daughter’s request as his eyes grew wide and his mouth opened and closed, which had let him look like a fish. Only Maria’s snickering reminded him that he was in a situation that looked surreal. Looking at his daughters, Alex saw that they were impatiently waiting for him to kiss the two women. Looking at said women, Tess stood there on her spot not really knowing how to react and then there was Isabel, who looked somewhat sick. As if getting kissed by me is something distasteful, Alex had thought as he slowly walked up to Tess and Isabel all the time murmuring when he became the child and his daughters the parent. He quickly kissed Tess on the cheek, which now looked like she was trying hard not to laugh. Next was Isabel, who tensed more and more as Alex came closer.

Isabel didn’t know what to do or how to react right now. Of course getting a kiss by Alex was phenomenal, even if it was only on her cheek. She just didn’t know how to react, how should she feel about it because without the twins Alex wouldn’t have thought about it by himself. Isabel had the feeling that Alex was trying his best to help them getting a normal life but he didn’t want to be involved too much. As if he was going to let go when they didn’t need him anymore but Isabel needed him. Before she was thinking more about her situation, Isabel felt a light touch on her cheek and realized that it were Alex’ lips. It was hard for her to suppress a moan. His lips were soft and his touch gentle like then when they were teenagers. Before she could say or do anything, Alex was already walking out with Max, Michael and Kyle behind him.

“Now you are probably feeling better and don’t feel alone. You have us and Daddy and Uncle Kyle…we want you to be happy.”

Katie said to Isabel and Tess. She and her twin loved the two new women in their lives and she wanted them to know that were a part of their family. They didn’t want to loose them. They knew with the arrivals of Tess and Isabel, their father and uncle would be more open to other people and start living again. They never said it to anyone else but both girls knew that the most important men in their lives weren’t really happy. They knew both men would do anything for them but they should start live again for themselves and not just for them. They needed Tess and Isabel for that. Although the twins hadn’t had a clue about the past, which connected Alex, Isabel, Kyle and Tess, they knew the women were going to change a lot of things. Maria’s clapping brought Katie out of her thoughts; her crazy aunt indicated that shopping time had started. Maybe it was going to be a funny day with the four women, who knew.

*********************************************

As expected, the guys had had a great time. In the beginning, they drove to the New York Rangers press conference, where Alex presented two new players for the next season and was answering questions to the goals of the team. Especially Michael had a great time at the conference because he met the team head coach and some players and in addition, he got a signed jersey. Max and Michael were surprised that there were so many reporters from all over the world and Kyle explained to them that the Rangers were the best team in the NHL since Alex was the owner and they already won two times the Stanley cup in a row. So it was a fact that this was something huge when the Rangers were presenting new players. Moreover, it was a special occasion when Alex was attending the conference because interviews by Alex were very rare. He was only giving three interviews a year.

Alex was the kind of man to protect his privacy and trying to give as less information to the public as possible. On the one hand, he wanted to protect Katie and Michelle from the reporters and on the other hand, he protected himself by that. Until today, no one really knew where Alex lived. So seeing Alex in public is like seeing Santa Claus. Unbelievable.

The funny part of the conference was as a young woman walked up to Alex and honoured him with an award for being THE MOST SEXIEST BUSINESSMAN IN THE WORLD. Well, Alex’ blush was more funny than the award but you could see that Alex was happy about it. The other men were cheering him on. Overall, it was an eventful noon for the men. After the conference was over, the men decided to have their shopping day and Michael decided that they should go to several car dealers. Somehow, no one of the other men was surprised about Michael’s suggestion. Maybe later they would shop clothes. After ten years away, Max and Michael needed some new clothes to impress their women. It wouldn’t take long, they were men, who didn’t need much and knew what they wanted.

The women were other stories. Sure, women needed more time to shop and they took time in deciding which colour they should choose and which colour they preferred. They only took so much time because they wanted to impress their men. It was only to Katie’s and Michelle’s disapproval that their aunts took years to decide on what to try on and what clothes to take in the end. The worst were Liz and Maria who were driving everybody crazy with their demands. Sure, they wanted to impress their boyfriends but they took shopping to another level. Maria had made it to upset two saleswomen, who started to cry because the craziness of Maria DeLuca was driving them crazy and they couldn’t handle it. For Tess and Isabel it was a bit embarrassing because they hadn’t thought the two humans were that impulsive regarding their behaviour as teens. Nonetheless, the end of their shopping in that store was that Maria went up to the two women and offered them a free therapy. With a ‘Have a nice day’ the four woman and the twins left and went to the next store.

After five hours of shopping just for clothes, Maria suggested to go to Victoria’s Secret. Tess wasn’t sure if that was the right shop for Michelle and Katie. In addition, she didn’t want to upset Alex by dragging his six years old daughters into a lingerie shop. She didn’t have a lot of experience with kids but Tess knew that kids were like sponges…they would tell everything their father. Moreover, she didn’t want Kyle to think that she was irresponsible or that she didn’t care at all about the girls. She wanted to show him that she was there for him but Tess still needed to find a way to break through his barrier. He was distant since she arrived and she wanted to improve their relationship. He was all that she had and she wanted him in her life. The question was if Kyle wanted the same. She was going to the right thing this time. She wouldn’t waste any more time like then as a teenager. She was going to get him.

As for the twins’ situation and taking them into the lingerie shop, Liz said that she would take care of the girls by taking them to the kids shop and keeping them there busy. Meantime, the remaining three women could go to the lingerie shop. Of course Maria was giddy to go to the shop because she could use Alex’ clients’ card and she needed some sexy lingerie to drive her Spaceboy crazy. Isabel wasn’t so sure about that but she didn’t want to spoil the fun. So the women and girls parted to take care of their business. As Liz and the girls went towards the kids’ shop, Michelle’s voice still could be heard as she said something to Liz and her sister.

“I give Auntie Maria 10minutes until she upsets the next woman.”

CHAPTER VIII

It was many shopping bags later when the females returned to the beach house. As they entered the house, they found all the men in the kitchen. As usual, Alex was the only one cooking. It was funny seeing him preparing the meat for the barbecue later, busying around the kitchen while the other free men were sitting relaxed around the kitchen table. Kyle and Alex were having cold beers while Michael and Max were drinking some soda. Liz and Maria immediately went over to their significant others while Isabel and Tess stayed behind helping Michelle and Katie with their bags. The twins wanted to carry their bags alone without anyone’s help but as they saw a glimpse of their father’s tall frame, they called for him.

“DADDY, COME AND HELP YOUR LITTLE AND WEAK DAUGHTERS!”

Alex and everyone else were surprised by their demand. Alex knew that the girls didn’t like it when somebody helped them. They wanted to do it mostly on their own. He knew that it was their way to show him that he didn’t need to worry about them…but a father always worried about his children. It surprised him that they wanted his help since Isabel and Tess were with them. The two women were perfectly capable to help.

As Alex made his way towards his daughters, he couldn’t believe what he saw. Isabel, Tess, Katie and Michelle were surrounded by nearly 40 or even more shopping bags, if he had counted correctly. Alex needed a few seconds to believe what he saw. No wonder his little ones asked for his help, even Isabel and Tess weren’t able to carry that. Moreover, it didn’t surprise him that Liz and Maria came running into the arms of Max and Michael. They ditched their friends. Alex walked over to them shacking his head at this absurd picture in front of him.

“I see you had a good hunt.”

“Hi daddy, Aunt Liz and Maria ditched us here with those bags.” Michelle complained. “But you are strong enough to help us with them so that Aunt Tessie and Izzy, me and Katie don’t have too much to carry.”

“Everything my pumpkin wants, I do. How about you and Katie go to the kitchen and sit with your Uncle Kyle. Dinner is ready soon. And I help Tess and Isabel with the bags.” Alex suggested to his daughters as he gave each a kiss before they vanished in the kitchen.

“So Ladies, I see that you were successful. There weren’t any problems with the girls, right? Did the girls behave?” Alex asked anxious.

“Don’t worry, Alex, Michelle and Katie were real sweethearts. We didn’t have any problems with them.” Isabel replied. She didn’t want Alex to think that they hadn’t been capable of taking care of the twins.

“I meant Liz and Maria. They can be a quite a handful.” Alex smiled at the two women, as Tess burst into a fit of laughers and Isabel followed her suit. Soon they came to the bedrooms where they put the bags down in the respective bedrooms.

“Don’t worry, they did behave. It was great today. I really wanted to thank you for taking us in and giving us the opportunity to have our lives back. It means a lot to me and to the others. Thank you Alex.” With that Tess gave Alex a bear hug. It looked amusing that the 5’2” small Tess hugged 6’4” tall Alex. For a moment, Isabel felt a pang of jealousy because Tess was able to hug Alex the way she had wanted for such a long time.

As Tess released Alex, they went down meeting the others in the kitchen. Isabel was trailing behind them lost in her thoughts about the whole Alex situation. If they would still be Teenagers, Isabel would use her knowledge about seduction to get Alex…wearing something sexy but not looking slutty and then make him understand that she was the one for him. However, they weren’t teenagers and they had changed. He was a widower. There was no doubt that Katherine was Alex’ big love otherwise he hadn’t had married her. He wasn’t the teenage boy she knew. Sure, he was still the caring, loveable boy deep down. Nonetheless, Alex was a father. He was there for his two daughters, who lost their mother.

Isabel knew that Alex wasn’t going to act on his behalf though he still wore his wedding band. She didn’t pay much attention to this little detail. But it became more and more of a reminder. It reminded her of the life she didn’t have and the man she couldn’t have. It was clear to the world that Alex loved his wife and always would.

“Isabel, are you alright?” Alex looked at her worried. She looked as if she was miles away with her thoughts.

“What…yeah I am…I am alright…wide awake…” Isabel rambled without realizing it.

“Alright, come on let’s eat.” Alex shot her weird look and went to finish his preparation for the barbecue.

It was weird to see that everything was like back then as teenagers. Isabel watched her brothers and her friends together. It looked like the perfect picture to her but deep down, Isabel knew there was nothing perfect in life.

“Hey guess what happened today at the press conference?” Max said excited.

“Max…come on don’t start.” Alex whined. He didn’t want that the guys told the girls that he received an award.

“Alex, that was cool. Let me tell them.” Max reasoned with his friend. Alex knew he had no chance to avoid the subject so he gave Max a wave with his hand to continue.

“Alright, we were at the press conference and it was going smoothly, from my perspective. Alex was doing his thing as big boss and we were in the background watching it all. I have to say it was really exciting to be there and watch how something like that goes on. Anyway, the thing was coming to an end. The press got their answers and Alex was really patient with them. It was cool. We met the Head coach and some players of the team. It was amazing. We met the new players and stuff. Anyways suddenly, there was this young girl, who had walked up to the stage where Alex was sitting. She walked up to him. Then she introduced herself. The next thing we know, she presented an award to Alex…”

“Oh my God, Alex…congratulations.” Maria bounced up to Alex and gave him a hug.

“Alex, that is great.” Liz also hugged her friend.

“What did you get it for, Daddy?” Michelle asked her father.

“THE MOST SEXIEST BUSINESS MAN IN THE WORLD.” Michael answered bluntly without keeping something in his mind.

“What does sexy mean?” that was little Katie who looked at the adults hoping someone would explain it to her.

“MICHAEL!” Maria scolded her boyfriend who was looking like he wished the ground would swallow him. He totally forgot that Michelle and Katie were with them and that they were kids.

Tess, Kyle, Isabel and Maria tried very hard to hide their laughers while Max was the one laughing at Michael’s faux pas, which had earned him an evil glare by Liz and he did shut up. Alex shook his head and rubbed the bridge of his nose at the whole thing. There was no father on the planet who would want his children to know the meaning of any word that contented the letters s-e-x.

“Sweetie, it means that your Daddy is a very handsome and good-looking man that’s why he got an award. In addition he’s successful in that what he is doing.” Isabel replied to Michelle who still didn’t the whole fuss about the word.

“So it isn’t a mean word?” Katie asked because she assumed it was one what caused the whole fuss was about.

“No, it isn’t. It has a good meaning.” Isabel smiled at the twins as she explained it to them. She hoped that she had helped Alex with that because he looked like he was catatonic.

“We should eat before the food gets cold.” Suddenly Alex exclaimed wanting to have a distraction. Everyone agreed and they started their dinner.

“Way to break the news, Michael.” Max mumbled to his friend, who kicked him under the table.

“OW! What the hell…” Max shouted as the pain in his shin.

“MAXWELL! Here are children.” Liz reminded her boyfriend sternly. Max mumbled an excuse then focused on his food.

Alex could only shake his head at the whole scene.

****************************************************

Alex was ready to leave for his business dinner. He really hoped to finish it fast since he wasn’t to keen on it to spend his evening with drinking and listening to boring conversations about golf. Moreover, Alex liked it more to spend time with his children. Playing with them and going to their sports games. He just wanted to be a dad. Katie and Michelle were his everything and he would do anything for them.

Putting his tie on, Alex looked at his reflection. He looked like the big boss he liked to act as if he was a big fish and mostly it works. He was successful in every way. He was even more successful than Bill Gates and that was a mega plus in Alex’ books. Nevertheless, it didn’t matter how successful he was, he missed her. He missed his wife more with every passing day. When he woke up in the morning, he still reached out for her. He couldn’t let go. He still thought she would be there when he opened his eyes. Or she would emerge from the bathroom after taking a shower. Then she would walk up to him and give him a tender kiss. It had expressed her love for him.

Alex wiped away the few tears, which had streamed down his cheeks. He took a deep breathe and back was Alex Whitman, the businessperson. He couldn’t show weakness in front of his daughters. They needed him and there was no time to break down. He needed to be a strong man. Straightening up, Alex took his wallet off dreeser and his jacket off the hanger. Before Alex opened his door, he closed his eyes and remembered his little girls. He had to be strong for them.

************************************************

Alex went down the stairs and had to gasp at the scene he saw. There were his kids laughing and playing with Isabel. It was a long time ago that he saw them so carefree with someone. Even near Liz and Maria, the twins hesitated to be themselves. Alex always assumed because they feared to be left behind, again. It broke his heart that his children hadn’t be able to trust the people in their lives. He wanted them to have a happy childhood after their mother died but he couldn’t force them to be happy children. He was there for them every day every hour. Nothing would ever change that. There was nothing better for Alex than the laughers of his daughters were. A small smile graced his face as he descended the stairs and walked over to the others. He sat on the big fluffy sofa, which Isabel and the girls occupied.

As he looked at them, he saw a sparkle in their eyes he never saw before. They were giggling and laughing. Even Michael was laughing at the things they did.

Isabel looked at Alex as he had joined them. She quickly looked away and focused back on the twins. If she had still looked at him, she would have begun to drool. Alex was looking too good in his grey suit with white button down shirt and the purple tie. Then there was the beard and his frameless glasses. Isabel just wanted to grab that tie and pull him to her pressing her body against his. But that wasn’t possible because a) his daughters were sitting between them; b) she couldn’t get naughty with him in front of their family and last c) she needed to get her shit together. Isabel was trying very hard to not do anything stupid. They were having a nice evening together until Alex would leave for his meeting. Isabel smiled at Katie who was playing with her hand.

“Daddy, you look sexy.” Katie smiled at her father. She knew it has a good meaning and she wanted to say something nice to him. Unfortunately, the whole room fell quiet as she said those words and everyone was staring at her.

“Thank you, honey.” Alex grabbed Katie and sat her in his Lap.

“But can you and your sister do me a favour, honey?” Alex took his daughter’s face into his hands. As she nodded, he continued.

“Please, please, please use that word when you turned 30 years old and I can stand to hear you say it. Can you two do that for your Daddy?” Alex inquired by his daughters.

“Sure, Daddy but that is a long time.” Katie agreed. Michelle nodded also to her father’s request. The others snickered who witnessed the whole talk.

“Thank you girls.”

Michelle yawned and Alex knew it was time for the bed. He looked at them and the twins immediately knew it was bedtime for them.

“Okay girls, it is time for bed. Come on I tuck you in.” Alex stood up and reached his hands out for them to take.

“I’m not tired. I want to stay with them and wait until you come back.” Michelle tried to convince her father that she wasn’t tired.

“Sure and that big yawn was my imagination. Besides, it’s already past your time. So say good night to everybody.” Alex replied.

“Alright, but do you tell us the story how you and mommy met; please?” Katie asked Alex with puppy dog eyes knowing that he couldn’t refuse them.

“Yes, I do.” Alex sat down and Michelle crawled on his lap and rested her head on his chest. While surprisingly Katie lay next to Isabel and rested her head on Isabel’s lap. Alex was surprised that Katie was so open but immediately put it beside and started his story.

“As you know I moved from Roswell to Boston to start college. Everything was good. In the first week, there were several parties at the universities, which were near. Therefore, one day some guy from one of my classes asked me if I wanted to come with them. I agreed because I wanted to meet new people. Anyway, so we went to the party at your mother’s university. We arrived and I mingled with some people but I got bored very fast. So I stood in one corner and watched the other people mingling. Then she came. Your mother entered the room and I forgot everything around me. She was a very beautiful woman and she had a very beautiful smile. I didn’t know how to approach her. I kept standing in my corner and waited. It was a bit later that I went over to her and spoke to her.”

Alex looked at Isabel, who indicated that the twins fell asleep. Carefully Alex put his arms around Michelle so he could lift her easily and carry her. Isabel was doing the same with Katie. She wanted to help Alex. Together they went upstairs to tuck the twins into their beds.

“Now that is something I didn’t expect to see.” Maria said to no one particular.

“I also didn’t but they looked cute together there on the sofa together.” Liz said to Maria.

“Well, maybe there is some hope for them after that whole time. I mean the girls really like Isabel and they were playing with her the whole time.” Max expressed his thoughts.

“He was crying earlier. He thinks I don’t know that and I’m letting in his belief. He still thinks that she would wake up next to him when he opens his eyes. He still didn’t get over Katherine. You see that he wears his wedding band. He won’t let her go. Alex didn’t get over her death after three years. And I don’t assume he is ready to open himself up for another love.” Kyle interrupted Maria and Liz in their conversation. Kyle was glad that the girls felt comfortable around Isabel but he wasn’t going to get his hope up.

“Kyle…”

“No Tess, you weren’t here and saw how Alex fell apart. A piece of him died with Katherine and he still didn’t heal. He needed her like the air we breathe. Look guys, I know we want him to be happy and we want the old Alex. It isn’t possible. God, he told me himself if it weren’t for the girls, he would have followed Katherine. He would have done it and there’s no doubt that he had. Let’s not interfere with his life. I also want to see him happy but we shouldn’t force it.” Kyle tried to reason with his friends.

Before anything else could be said, Alex and Isabel came back together. Alex put his jacket and left for his meeting telling that Kyle didn’t need to wait for him.

*********************************************

It was late at night, when Tess went down to the kitchen. As she entered it, the light of the refrigerator lighted the room and she saw Kyle ravishing the fridge. She stopped in her tracks and watched the man who she lived with for months before she had to leave. A small smile appeared on her as she realized some things never changed. He still wore just boxers for sleeping as she saw the amount of skin and muscles reflected by the bit of light. Kyle was busy with rummaging and he still noticed that someone was watching him. Tess switched on the light to get his attention and he did react by letting out a little squeal that sounded girlish.

“God Tess, you scared me. For how long did you stand there?” Kyle asked her shocked. He didn’t expect to find any one awake at that time. And Alex was still away so he thought he was the only late bird.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I wanted to get something to drink then I saw you rummage through the fridge.” Tess smiled at Kyle. She still didn’t know where she stood with Kyle.

He still kept his distance to her. Kyle didn’t give her any signs that he was either happy or upset that she was back. Tess felt as if she had intruded his life. A life she knew nothing about. She thought if she came back, everything would be the same. Jim would be the Sheriff and Kyle would be either a famous football star or a deputy. Kyle was the deputy and in the end, he had hurt. He was shot and she wasn’t there for him. Tess regretted that Kyle had to go through it alone. Tess was grateful that Alex and his wife, Maria and Liz were there for him but she had wanted to take care of him. She was also his family and he was the only family she knew.

Though she wished he wouldn’t see her as family but more. Ten years ago, she wanted to be more for him. Tess had hoped that Kyle would have seen her as more than a friend.

“What are you craving with your Tabasco sauce?” Kyle grinned sheepishly at her.

“Nothing special. I just wanted to get a coke and probably sit here around. What about you? I see that old habits die hard. You still need sometimes your midnight snack.” Tess smiled at him as Kyle handed her a can of coke. She sat down at the table as Kyle came over to her with ingredients for a sandwich.

A comfortable silence engulfed them as they sat together in the kitchen.

Kyle was lost in his thoughts as he prepared his snack. It seemed surreal to have Tess next to him. When they were teenagers, he really thought he had a chance with her. Once again, he lost the girl to another man. Kyle knew he should have taken a chance at dating Tess. Unfortunately, Kyle thought he had time. He was wrong back then. Today he wasn’t the man he had been. Kyle wouldn’t believe if Tess was interested in a man like him. Kyle lost too much to open up again his heart.

Even if he was uncertain towards Tess, he would be there for her. She needed him as part of her life and he wouldn’t refuse her that. He was the only family she had and he would be her family. The silence was disturbed as Kyle saw Alex entering the house.

“Hey man, how come you are that late? It’s nearly 2pm.” Kyle asked with a mouthful of his sandwich. Tess could only shake her head at his behaviour.

“You know those business guys. They drink until they aren’t able to form any coherent sentences and then you make them sign the contract. Unfortunately, it took longer than I expected because two C.E.O.s were late. Thank god, I am home now. I need sleep. Night Tess, night Kyle.” Alex said as he left the other two behind.

Kyle finished off his sandwich and put the things back in the fridge.

Without thinking, Kyle got back to Tess’ side and kissed her on the cheek.

“Sweet dreams, Tess.” Kyle drove back to his bedroom.

“Night, Kyle.” Tess whispered to his retreating form as her she reached up her hand to the spot he had kissed. That was something unexpected. It was a good beginning.

*********************************************

The next day was spent at the beach. It was a great opportunity for Liz and Maria to parade their new bikinis in front of their boyfriends. Isabel and Tess were a different story. They wanted to get Alex’ and Kyle’s attention but they didn’t want to look pushy. At least they were alone at that part of the beach. Alex explained to them that he owned this part and that was why he had built a path from the house down to the shore so Kyle had no problems with coming down.

They all sat together in the sun. Alex was swimming with his daughters. Their laughers could be heard to where the rest of the group sat.

Isabel had a hard time not staring at Alex. He wore swimming shorts with a Hawaiian flower pattern. Her bigger problem was the view of his chest. Thankfully, she wore her sunglasses so no one saw where her eyes wandered when she gazed at his chest.

As Alex came back with the girls from swimming, he towelled them off and applied some sun cream on Michelle and Katie. The girls looked cute in their bikinis. Kyle was busy with taking pictures of everyone. As he looked at Michelle, he notices that she had a thoughtful look on her face.

“Sweetie, what is it? Are you cold?” Kyle asked Michelle worried. Alex also noticed that something was off with his daughter.

“No, I’m fine Uncle Kyle. I just think it is unfair that me and Katie are the ones on the short end.” Michelle replied what confused the adults even more.

“Pumpkin, what is unfair?” Alex asked very perplexed.

“Look around Daddy, they have enough to fill out and me and Katie don’t. We don’t look like them.”

“Michelle how about you tell me exactly what the problem is so I can help you.” Alex was lost because he didn’t know what was going on.

“Look at Auntie Isabel, she fills out her bathing suit because she has a lot of boobs and she is also a girl. Me and Katie don’t. That isn’t fair. Look at them Daddy, why don’t we have that?” Michelle pouted and Alex understood what she meant.

“Sweetie…”

“No Daddy look at them.” the girl interrupted her father and pointed with her finger at Isabel, who now stiffened up and lost the ability to talk. While Kyle, Max, Michael, Maria, Liz and Tess had to stifle their snickers. Isabel was blushing with embarrassment. Grateful that the sunbathing was hiding her blush.

“But sweetie…”

“No, Daddy you have to look.” Michelle demanded of her father who was still shocked. Isabel, who sat next to Alex, wished that the ground would open up and swallow her. How did she manage to get into such a situation? Alex backed down and complied his daughters wish though he wished that this was just a nightmare.

Alex took a deep breathe and turned towards Isabel, it took him a moment before he had sank his gaze on Isabel’s breasts. In the background, you could hear Michael’s laugh. As fast as Alex settled his gaze on her rack, he looked away. He turned to his daughter, who was now smiling and returned her smile.

“Alright, I looked. Look you both, you are still little girls. Your aunties are old and they had gone through some changes when they grew up. One day you will also go through those changes. Before this day comes please stay, my little girls as long as you can.” Alex then engulfed his twins in a big hug.

“Okay Daddy. But I don’t want to wait too long.”

Seeing the display of father and daughters, Isabel mused why this family was fascinated with talking about her breasts.
