Oh!!! my!!! God!!!! What's a frightening part!

I have pain all over now for what they did to Max and Liz! Sean showed his real face and I hope he will be punished for that!
Never believed that they were such monsters and I wonder where are the humans, in this story and if Roswell was always full of aliens only... lol

And this story gives the feeling to be in the middle age, when the richs and kings had the right to "live and die", for their people!

Anyway, wondering what will happens next...

I was actually surprised that Mr. Guerin was on the council and Philip wasn't. I had figured that with his higher ranking and the fact that they tend to meet at his house he would be a part of it. Of course perhaps it's only because of the circumstance? After all they couldn't expect him to be completely partial as it was his son (and his son's bonded) who are on trial.

So if Mr. Guerin is Philip's protector, on the council and someone Philip can obviously trust who is the black haired man? He rarely spoke but when he did it wasn't against Max and Liz. He mentioned the energy which, as Philip was hoping, would be obvious enough to spare the two young lovers. At first Liz states she didn't recognize him and then she says she couldn't place him. Two completely different statements. And you've conveniently ( ) mentioned almost nothing about him. We know about Mr. Guerin, Mr. Whitman, Sgt. Carter, Command and the Mayor (we learned about during the chapter). The only one mentioned in the chapter who we know nothing about not only appears to be neutral in all this but is likely one of the two who dragged Max out of the room.

It seemed strange to me that the council would have met without Max. Wouldn't they have wanted to question him or even immediately carry out his punishment once it had been decided upon? So one of my theories about the meeting (I'm actually telling you one!) was that Philip had intended to keep Max away in case he needed to move him quickly due to an unfavorable verdict. But that plan changed once Max and Liz had sealed their bond.

Something else I had considered (spoiling you with two of my theories here  ) is that maybe there's not as much of a "over-throw the alien government" rebellion as much as there is a "clean out the corrupt members" kind of rebellion. After all, we know that not everyone higher up is evil. And the Antarians are smart enough to realize they have to adapt as their descendants mix with humans. (Much like they had to adapt when they first came to earth.) And when overthrowing a government structure you need the new one just as strong (or stronger) in order to maintain peace afterwards and to implement the new laws, etc. That's easiest done if some of the old law makers are part of the group of new law makers.

So, all of that being said, are they wanting to overthrow Command or is Command cleaning house? Because having someone who is as power hungry as the Sgt. and knowing you'll have to deal with his son afterwards (or your descendants will) doesn't seem like a good long-term arrangement for Command. And his first priority has to be to ensure that his people survive and aren't annihilated and/or don't kill each other off. And it would explain why Liz wasn't just taken until her glowing started. If the Sgt. had his way I imagine she would have been. But an order from higher up is one he wouldn't have been able to deny.

Hmm...

I love watching the bond between Max and Liz develop! She's seeing colors (even after a Max dimmed his side of the connection) and that second "zing" seems as though she fought back against Sean. It wouldn't be out of character for her to do so and it would explain Philip's statement of her being in just as much danger as Max. Plus Philip has to be speculating just how far their bond is developing - which means if Liz is alive Max is safer. So it is important that he keep her safe. By keeping her safe he's keeping the connection between her abs his son intact and therefore his son is kept safer.

The only thing that surprised me was that Max wasn't prepared for Sean's attack. He had to have known that Sean would react... poorly... (for lack of a better word) to the situation. He's also going to be pissed at Liz for endangering herself like that. Though, technically, they're one for one now. He almost gave his life for hers and now she's done the same. I'm wondering if that affects anything "alien-wise."

It's also interesting that Max didn't ever tell Liz that by sleeping with her he would be forfeiting his life. He did say it was against the law for them to bond and Liz guessed as much in the bathroom with Isabel. But to actually hear it and to have it not be from Max first has to be hard. I wonder if she would have confronted him about it with that whole "saving my life" speech if she knew he would be giving his up by sleeping with her in hopes that it would save her/them. It really seems to be a no-win situation.

But the bond was strengthened. So when does it finish strengthening? Because I don't think Liz will be vulnerable to anyone controlling her when it has. I loved that they finally got to see the glow. And they weren't technically as connected as they were in the dining room! It'll be interesting to see how they learn to control themselves in public once they get through the night.

So... Since I'm not yelling about you needing to post the next part immediately wanna go ahead and post? I'm trying the whole "speaking softly and asking nicely" attempt.

Something like that, yes :?

Sorry for giving you pain; that was not an easy "incident" for Max and Liz :( Thank you so much for the feedback!

Ashley (Morning Dreamgirl)
I was actually surprised that Mr. Guerin was on the council and Philip wasn't. I had figured that with his higher ranking and the fact that they tend to meet at his house he would be a part of it. Of course perhaps it's only because of the circumstance? After all they couldn't expect him to be completely partial as it was his son (and his son's bonded) who are on trial.
Philip’s position on the council is still mostly unexplained. But considering that they are using his (extra) house for meetings, he must be trustworthy. He already has an important role in the community considering that he is a healer, but his political stance remain unexplained for the time being. At this meeting, however, it wouldn’t be appropriate for Mr. Evans to interrogate his own son. So his position on the council (whatever it might be) doesn’t really count that much at this meeting.
Hmm… who is the black-haired man? Your observations are correct in that he doesn’t really display any affiliation with a ”side” at the meeting. He’s not really showing any animosity towards the couple on trial, nor is he defending them.
It seemed strange to me that the council would have met without Max. Wouldn't they have wanted to question him or even immediately carry out his punishment once it had been decided upon?
The council had decided to meet without Max’s presence because they thought that they already had all the information they needed. Sgt. Carter and Sean had been very helpful in this area, supplying the council with information on Max’s actions. So they were only to discuss what he had done and see if any punishments needed to be altered, if he needed to be ”re-educated”, etc. etc. For all they knew, Max was meddling with a gaea, but that was about it. They had no idea of Max actually bonding with said gaea. If they had found that out at the meeting, they probably would’ve called Max to a trial for questioning.

Instead, Mr. Evans decided that it was best to play his role in the community and inform the council of Max’s further actions with the gaea. This way Mr. Evans would somewhat protect his stance with the council and would have a higher likelihood of being able to protect his son if needed. The council would have found out about the bonding sooner rather than later anyway, Mr. Evans might just as well try and use the incident to not only his advantage but also his son’s.
Something else I had considered (spoiling you with two of my theories here  ) is that maybe there's not as much of a "over-throw the alien government" rebellion as much as there is a "clean out the corrupt members" kind of rebellion.
Interesting theory you have about ”cleaning the house” of corrupt members. That is also a possibility.
I love watching the bond between Max and Liz develop! She's seeing colors (even after a Max dimmed his side of the connection) and that second "zing" seems as though she fought back against Sean.
The second ”zing” might not have been Liz’s doing, actually. How does one restart a heart that has stopped…? Max was right there.
Keeping Liz safe is one of Max’s priorities and is - partly because of that - becoming one of Philip’s priorities. However, they are still more likely to want to keep Max alive than Liz. Max is one of them, he’s a healer (which is rare and pertinent to their community). This makes him more or less irreplaceable. There are more gaeas out there. They’re just a bit far away and are not in the right developmental stages, but it’s not as difficult to replace a gaea as it is to replace a healer. So it makes more sense for Mr. Evans to concentrate on keeping Liz safe, since she’s in more danger than Max right now.

Plus, as you’re touching upon, if their connection is as strong as it appears, Max will be safer as long as the connection is maintained, since he can get energy from Liz. That is, if Liz is kept ”healthy” enough to be able to supply that energy.

And when you put it like that; that Max is giving his life up to save Liz’s it really becomes a no-win situation. Which is why Max was going to such lengths to try and find any other option. Because however he twisted and turned, he couldn’t find the perfect solution where they’d both be ”safe”.
Sean’s attack did surprise Max. He probably did anticipate it. But we don’t know what was going on from Max’s POV at the time. Maybe it was enough to distract him for a second, making it possible for Sean to ”sneak up” on him. Or maybe there just really wasn’t any sign of what Sean was about to do, even if Max was prepared for it. maybe the only reason why liz saw that it was about to happen was because they had linked minds at some points. So many question marks  .

Thank you thank you for your feedback :D

From SIXTY:

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Forget about me! I'm not the one in danger."

Mr. Evans shook his head. "But you are. Just as much as my son." He swallowed and looked towards his son. "I was afraid this might happen. It would have been better without all of this drama, but Sean Carter is not known for being calm and collected."

With his words ringing through my head I watched two men pick Max up and drag his frighteningly unresponsive body between them. My mind flashed to the early morning outside of my burning home, when Max had risked his own life, draining himself, to heal me. When his unconscious body had rested across my lap before he had been dragged - much like now - away by - to me - unknown men.

"Calm down," Mr. Evans hushed angrily, in a tone that Max would have used with me. Anger out of fearful concern.

But his admonishment came too late. With Max removed from the room, Command turned his empty light-blue eyes on me and in quick steps that seemed very inhuman in nature, he came to kneel in front of me.

And before I had time to swallow my sudden fear at his proximity, a possible scream already withering away in my throat, he locked eyes with me and stated in an even and detached tone, "Sleep, Elizabeth Parker."

And my mind offered no resistance. My world blacked out.

UNBREAKABLE - FORGING BONDS

A/N: I never expected this story to become so long. I've decided to split this story into 3 books and the first split is at this point. Since I don't want to lose feedback, I won't make an actual split between book 1 ("A Beautiful Lie") and book 2 ("Forging Bonds"). Instead, the second book starts here, at chapter Sixty-One. The intended cover for book 2 is above.

Thank you for reading and welcome to "Unbreakable - Forging Bonds".

SIXTY-ONE

My body jerked into wakefulness with an alertness that may have called into question whether I had even been unconscious, and I immediately sat up from my sideway position on the...bed?

My eyes darted around the room and I had a fleeting thought that I had been there before when my frightened scan collided with the tall dark figure standing with arms crossed over his chest, back against the wall next to the doorframe.

The Sergeant.

"Hello, Ms. Parker," he drawled.

My first thought was of Max and I instinctively searched my head for him. But my mind was still solo-operated.

"Where's Max?" I croaked. I was aching all over and my head was spinning from my rather rapid move into an upright position.

The man pushed off the wall and, on reflex, I pressed back up against the headboard of the bed.

Don't look into his eyes! my thoughts were screaming at me. But I would very soon realize that the Sergeant didn't need eye contact to connect.

As he slowly stalked up to the bed, my arms and legs became unresponsive. It was not rocket science to figure out what was going on. To my relief, my thoughts remained my own.

"We've met before. Before today's meeting." There was a twinkle in his green piercing eyes.

He took a seat on the bed, far enough away that I could breathe, but close enough that I could feel the energy swirl around him. This man was powerful. Very powerful.

And right then I could feel that power banging against my mind. Like a persistent, and not so gentle, construction worker with a large sledgehammer trying to break through a stubborn bricked wall.

The Sergeant kept up the conversation like he wasn't working on giving me a massive headache, and his face revealed nothing as he continued, "But you might not remember."

I ignored the temptation to try and regain control of my body, instead focusing my energy on keeping him out of my mind. I had a feeling that he was currently unable to gain access to my innermost thought processes. Even though he seemed to be in perfect control of the parts of my brain governing my bodily movements.

"Where's Max?" I asked again. If he wasn't going to answer my questions, I was not going to engage in his line of discussion.

"Max Evans," the Sergeant stated slowly, almost contemplatively. "That boy sure is one major pain in the ass."

"Did you hurt him?" I asked through gritted teeth.

My body felt weird, since it wasn't responding to my anger appropriately. It was not right to be sitting like a propped up rag doll when a very dangerous man was seated mere two feet away from you.

The Sergeant cocked his head to the side, regarding me curiously. "Interesting. My son was telling me that you were difficult, but I would never have anticipated..."

The expected headache was creeping up the front of my head and another wave of dizziness rocked me.

"How long ago did you seal the bond with Max Evans?" the Sergeant continued and I knew that he was talking about our 'second' bonding, since our first bonding had already been accounted for at the meeting.

"None of your business," I bit out and longed to close my eyes against the pain searing through my head.

But Sgt. Steven Carter was in control of that part of me. And he wanted me to look straight at him. So, I did.

He chuckled. A surge of fresh fear burned through me.

"Feisty. I like that in a woman." He clucked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, adding in a nauseatingly pleasant tone, "You know, you remind me a lot of your mother. She fought me for so long."

"Don't talk about my mother," I snapped, my body trembling from fighting his control.

Intellectually, I could suspect what he was doing. He was trying to upset me, drain me of energy, so that he could walk straight into my mind. Rationally, I knew I shouldn't be provoked.

But I had barely gotten over what they had done to my mother. I glared hotly at him. Correction; what he had done to my mother.

He laughed and shook his head. Apparently he found this whole thing very entertaining. "There, there. No need to get all worked up. Besides, you should be grateful."

"Grateful?" I spat. Was he high?

"Yes," he said slowly, tasting every letter in that short word. He leaned forward and slowly ran his hand up the outside of my leg, up to the middle of my thigh.

Nausea exploded with an all-consuming fear and I desperately wanted to close my eyes against all of this. It had, actually, never before crossed my mind that I was in any danger of getting raped by Sean's father. But that prospect was suddenly very real and wild in my head.

The Sergeant might very well have gotten fed up with his son's unsuccessful attempts at establishing a connection and having decided to take matters into his own able hands. After all, the gaea he had just owned had - very prematurely, even by the Sergeant's order - died.

"Get your hands off me," I threatened, but my threat was faint and shaky. He would be able to do whatever he wanted with me. My mind might still be mine, but my body was not.

He pressed his thumbs into the softness of my inner thigh as his large hand wrapped horizontally across my thigh. "If it weren't for me, you probably wouldn't even exist."

The emotions stilled and I gasped a, "What?"

He released his grip on my thigh. "I let your mother go." The man that was my father's age slid his hand slowly back down my leg, gradually straightening back into his seated position. "I let her go so that she could be happy. Marry the man she wanted. Start a family." He raised a pointed eyebrow at me. "To have you."

Darkness crept around my heart. He couldn't fool me. There was no way that he had done something like that out of the 'goodness of his fake alien heart', or as a kind gesture towards my mom.

No, the reason behind 'letting her go' was, "Strategy." I huffed. "It was all strategy. Maybe she couldn't have a child with you. Maybe gaeas can't be hybrids, so there was no use in you creating a child with my mother. You obviously have an interest in preserving the gaea bloodline, since there are so few of them, so you probably let my mother have a shot at a normal life so that she could produce another gaea."

He looked at me calmly, silently, before throwing his head back and letting out a loud laugh. If I had been able to, I would have jumped. It would be an understatement to claim that the Sergeant wasn't the least surprised that I knew about the gaeas and what role my mother (and I) played in it.

Sgt. Carter settled down from his untimely laughter, and declared, "You're a smart girl," almost sounding impressed. "I don't believe that Sean has emphasized that enough." He shook his head slowly, his eyes searching my face.

I could still feel him working on the wall around my mind; clawing and scraping. Even while carrying on a 'polite' conversation, he had kept digging. And even though he didn't tire as easily as Mr. Evans or Sean, I could spot the strain that had produced a faint line on his forehead.

"Either Max has told you all of this-," the Sergeant said before shaking his head to himself in afterthought, "-but I don't think that's the case. Max doesn't know that much about gaeas. And my son is not stupid enough to have disclosed that information. No, Ms. Parker. I think you came up with the reason behind me leaving your mother alone, all on your own." He put his head to the side again, his eyes gleaming at me smugly. "Tell me, Elizabeth, did you at any point consider that I might be your father?"

His question spurred a very real fear in me. That suspicion had been fleeting in my head, but I hadn't dared to consider it. I was nothing like the monster sitting in front of me. I couldn't be related to him. I couldn't be a hybrid. Right?

My self-confidence swayed with doubt. Right?

But maybe that would explain why I was strong, more resilient than the other gaeas. If I was actually a hybrid who also happened to be a gaea.

I tried to swallow as I built up my defense. "You would let your son bond sexually with his half-sister?" To my triumph I saw a twinkle of anger in his well-controlled features. "That's sick. Even for you."

He shrugged. Lightly. "Just a thought."

"You could never be my father," I hissed. "Never."

He traced a finger along the curve in the indent of my sock-covered foot (where had my shoes gone?) and said slowly, "There were enough opportunities for Nance and me to create a child, believe me."

I wanted to throw up. I wanted to kick the foot he was caressing into his face. I wanted to pound my fists against his chest and scream at the top of my lungs.

Instead my body was seated quietly, still and unresponsive, while my eyes tried their best to translate the anger I was feeling towards him.

"I'm human," I said, but I could feel him draining my energy further as he rocked my beliefs, the very foundation to my existence. "Completely human."

"Maybe," the Sergeant said evasively and I tried to block the insecurity, instead bringing forth the image of my dad's face. His warm smile, his unconditional love and how much he meant to me. I let it permeate my mind and push at the headache.

My eyes traced a droplet of sweat as it ran down Sgt. Carter's temple and I let my next breath infuse me further with bright thoughts about not only my father, but also my mom, my friends and Max.

Max.

I let my whole mind fill with memories of Max. Of his hands, of his touches, of his kisses, his love, his eyes, his skin. Of his protectiveness, his strength and warmth. I let the love I had felt through our connection earlier spread through every cell in my unresponsive body.

And I saw the Sergeant start to tremble from exertion in front of me, while surprise was replaced by anger on his face.

I felt the second his control snapped and my body shook with awareness.

I could feel my hands again and move my legs.

The Sergeant's head dropped forward in a second of visible fatigue and my mind worked fervently, quickly changing gears towards what my next move should be.

I hadn't really planned to be 'released' before the Sergeant had decided I would. So I didn't have the time to stop and think whether it was a good idea as I threw myself off the bed and tried to get my adrenaline-jellied legs to function as I shot for the door.

As my shaking fingers curled around the door handle, some invisible force wrapped itself around my body and yanked me backwards. The snap was so abrupt, so forceful, that I was sent flying to the floor and the back of my head impacted loudly with the wooden flooring.

For the second time within the span of an hour, I was rendered unconscious.

Oh! What's a torture!

Oh my... If the sergeant is Liz's father, likes he pretends he could be, it would mean that she would have to sleep with her half brother's Sean?!

What kind of creatures are tey, these aliens, if they need humans to get right and stay on Earth?

And obviously, he never expected Liz having such power... because she has!!!! He wasn't sweating for nothing, the man!!!

Thanks and waiting impatiently for more! EVE

You know, when I first read this I thought Liz was merely in the bedroom she and Max had been in before. And the fact that she is knocked unconscious for the second time in an hour seems to support that. But then you wrote that she feels like she's been there before. Obviously she didn't recognize it which makes me think maybe it's not the room she was in with Max. Something like that would be burned into your memory I imagine. So where in the world is she being held?

The conversation that the Sgt. had with Liz is interesting. Especially the part where he mentions that Sean said Liz was difficult. It sort of hinted at previous conversations between Sean and his father. I had a feeling before, and it was partially confirmed with this, that Sean has been disappointing his father recently. He had to be seeing his son as a failure. I'm sure that hasn't helped Sean's attitude lately. I mean, Steven Carter is very likely angry that his son hasn't gotten Liz fully under his control. (And angry aliens aren't a pleasant sight.) He very likely assumes Liz would push back like her mother did but he obviously didn't expect *that* much resistance. It's a little concerning now because as a high ranking military member he's going to now think about what tactics would be better. The "easiest" way on Liz would have been mind control. If that's not an option then I hate to think what he might decide are better ways to force a bond between Liz and Sean.

I was wondering at one point why the Sgt. didn't bond with Liz until his son was more ready to do so. While its a horrible situation I wouldn't put it past him. It seems like something he would do, especially if his own gaea had to be killed and he's concerned about some kind of attack. Hopefully it doesn't ever come to him threatening that. But with how strong he is I wonder if Liz would be able to stop him. :-/

I'm curious as to where Max is. He's obviously still unconscious. When they dragged him out of the room I figured they were locking him in another room. But if a Liz isn't still at the Evans' Hondo house I suppose Max *could* be. So if they're separated how far is too far to talk to each other? At some point Max will wake up (or be awoken like Liz was by the Sgt.) and at that point I imagine they'll be reaching for each other. I wonder how easily (or not) that will work if they're separate by a great distance.

I'm curious as to why the Sgt. doesn't think Max knows a lot about Gaeas. He's been going along for Liz's checkups for years. He's also a healer so he has more of an understanding of connections than most Antarians his age would. (Even if they're not gaea-strength connections.) Maybe he under estimates Max. I get the feeling that none of the Carter men like the Evans men. And that the sentiment is probably mutual.

Speaking of men the Parker women love and the Carter family... Jeff is an interesting character. When did he come into the picture? I often wonder what happened between him and the Sgt. and if he has been aware of what's going on? Why else would Nancy want to kill him if not to keep him safe as well? And I can't imagine that Steven Carter just let Nancy fall in love with someone other than him or even let Jeff pursue her without messing with his mind. At the very least it would be a way to remind Nancy who was in control. I figure that Jeff's memory was always wiped when the Sgt. did anything but I wonder if he ever found out about stuff that the Sgt. wasn't aware he knew about. Or if Nancy ever told him. He would need to know what was going on to keep Liz safe if something ever happened to Nancy. (Which it did.) I probably shouldn't be giving you ideas for more back story but what can I say - I'm a curious bee! And I think Jeff could probably play more of a role than the aliens are anticipating.

I am curious as to the Sgt's suggestion that Liz isn't completely human. It sounds like he's just messing with her head but at the same time he likes teasing with half-truths and half-lies to mess with people. So you never know what part is true and what part isn't. Well *you* do but we don't. Feel free to spill all though! ;)

I'm intrigued about how Liz was able to use thoughts of her family, friends and Max to kick the Sgt. fully out of her mind. He obviously wasn't expecting it any more than she was. I didn't expect her thoughts of Jeff, Nancy, etc. to have any effect on the Sgt's control. I also didn't anticipate that just the thought and memory of Max to be able to do that. It makes sense but I wasn't expecting it with Max not currently being in her mind.

I don't imagine the Sgt. is going to get in trouble for being so forceful on Liz that he knocks her unconscious, eh? It seems Sean isn't the only one who had trouble controlling his anger. :-/

But even if Liz *had* gotten through the bedroom door how would she have escaped? There's no telling what -or who - is on the other side or even where she is really. She's in a bit of a pickle. Can we have Max come save her in the next chapter? :D Or would that be too easy? Can't blame a girl for trying.
