Re: Endless (AU with Aliens) 8-29-2016 Chapter 6 (part 1)

This is the place to post stories that significantly alter the show's canon or mythology such as prequels, backgrounds for the characters that differ from on the show, fics where different characters are alien, and alternative family relationships. These fics must contain aliens or alien storylines as part of their plot.

Title: Endless
Author: Flywayraven
Category: AU, M/L
Rating: ADULT
Editor: Don't have one

Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. The characters of Roswell belong to its founder - Jason Katims, Twentieth Century Fox Corporation, Regency Entertainment, and Monarchy B.V. This is just the work of my twisted imagination implemented with the obsession of my favorite lovebirds.

Summary:Endlessis the creation of my new obsession with post apocalyptic stories. What would have happened to earth in the case that the Gandarium was released into the atmosphere during the crash, allowing for a twisted alternate reality of what happens with our favorite love birds.

Prolog

The air rushed past as he fell, deafening as he picked up speed. By the time he hit the water, his head was spinning and somewhere above him he could hear screaming.
The water muffled the sound as it closed around his body, its icy embrace sucking him down faster than he could make sense of. It was cold and dark as he tried to find the source of the soul wrenching screams. It was the type of screaming that made your breath hitch in sympathy and he knew there was something important he should be remembering. He tried to move his body, kick his legs to propel himself toward the surface, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t move at all. As the water continued to pull him down, he remembered.
‘Liz’ Her name brushed the edges of his mind.
She was screaming.
Somewhere above him, her distorted screams reached him.
He’d saved her, all if it had been worth it.
His eyes closed for the last time as the water contained to pull him down, into its chilly embrace.

This sounds really really promising. I'm thoroughly intrigued. I do love those dystopic stories, so this might be right up my alley. I also instantly liked your way of writing. So yes, I'm excited and looking forward to more!

Great start.... quite frightening but with such a title... and I have the same question as Michelle asked, above me! EVE

Chapter 1

The chime on the door sounded again as someone rang the bell. I woke with a jolt, the sound penetrating my nightmares. Tears silently tracked down my face as my heartbeat stuttered back to normal. I ran trembling hands though my hair as the door chimed again. Grabbing the remote sitting beside the bed I flipped the viewer on. I knew who it was before his face appeared on the screen hanging from the ceiling at the end of my bed. He was the only one who ever showed up at my door.

His smile froze when I appeared on the two way viewer outside the door. A frown tugging at the corner of his lips.

My voice was raspy from the screams that no doubt had left my throat during the long night. I gave him a weak smile. “Kyle, is it time already?”

He nodded silently as his blue eyes grew larger on the screen, as if he could crawl into the lens to comfort me. “Better hurry Parker, Nicolas is up in arms this morning.”

I nodded as I gave him a tight smile before throwing back the blankets, flicking the viewers off.

I gave a sigh as I heaved my body over to the end of the small cot I called a bed. The hard pad that served as a mattress was padded with layers of blankets that Kyle had tucked around the edges in an attempt to make it more comfortable. I had frowned at his effort, even if I thought it was unnecessary I hadn’t tried to stop him. He would always feel it his duty to take care of me.

Kyle had been chosen as my protector when my parents were still alive and we were both young. Born from a long line of protectors, his father had formed an alliance with my parents based on mutual interests and a long standing friendship that was unheard of in our society. The Valenti men were proud and stronger than most and I knew Kyle’s father Jim felt regretful that he hadn’t tried harder to save my parents.

I glanced at the small red numbers flashing in the corner of the viewer. Six AM may have been a sane hour for Kyle, but for me it still felt like the middle of the night as the darkness spread thick and relentless outside my small porthole of a window. I knew he had been awake since four, and once again cursed his need for less sleep. All protectors need less than us regular humans. Less sleep, less food, less everything. For a brief moment I envied his abilities until I dwelt on the why.

I stood, stretching my tired body as I took the three steps to my tiny bathroom. The space of my entire apartment could fit into Kyle’s closet that branched off his spacious bedroom. I had only been in there a couple of times throughout my life, the last being when Kyle graduated and became a full-fledged protector and his father had petitioned The Council on my behalf so I could nurse him back to health.

Although Kyle was old enough to be granted his own apartment, he chose to continue living with his father three floors down from the penthouse used by the Lead Council member, and across the hall from the where I had been born and raised until the age of fifteen when my parent were killed and I was evicted from the only home I had known. Jim had offered to take me in and raise me alongside Kyle, who was two years my senior. The Council had agreed to the arrangement, stating that my affinity for science would eventually grant me access in my own right.

Back then I had blamed everyone for my parent’s death. For the lack of information on why it had happened, how it happened and even the fact that there were no bodies to claim. Once I had rejected The Councils generous offer, even though it had been Jim who had petitioned them, they had relocated me to the bowels of the tower. Located one hundred and twenty floors below Kyle, The Council immediately declared me unfit for a protector of Kyle’s status and had attempted to relocate him.

Kyle wasn’t having it however, and had stated that as a potential Seer and a scientist in my own right it wouldn’t be right to stunt my potential by taking away the protection that would allow me to grow and gain my status back. I always found it funny that Kyle cared more about my station in life then I did, but then again it was his job.

I decided to forgo a shower, instead splashing a small amount of unheated water on my face before twisting my long brown locks away from my face. I checked my allotted water levels and cured as I realized I would once again have to make a choice between a hot shower and washing my cloths.

As I continued to get ready I flipped on the news, listening absentmindedly as the reporter droned on about the possibility of new population control policies being written by The Council. The Denizens of the lower levels were up in arms about the possibility of sterilization for those who lived below level twenty, and sterilization for those who lived between the levels of twenty and fifty five who had already had one child. Those with the genetic markers for the possible breeding of advanced humans or protectors were to be the only acceptation.

I tuned out the debate that had been going on for more than a decade as I pulled on my boots and sweater, stepping to spit into the sink as I finished up brushing my teeth. Kyle banged on the door as I quickly pushed the button that allowed my bed to flip into the wall, allowing room for Kyle to slip in the door.

Pushing another button the door popped open with a muffled sound, and Kyle pushed his way in, an easy smile lighting his face. His eyes roved over my face, no doubt taking in the bags under my puffy and blood shot eyes. He didn’t mention it though as he gave me a quick squeeze. His warm frame and familiar citrus scent relaxing muscles that I hadn’t even realized were still tense from my dreams.

Easing back I gave him a reassuring smile as I eased around his large frame to duck out the door. Kyle grabbed my hand before I was taken by the crowd of people rushing to get to their destinations, even at this early hour. How Kyle was able to lounge outside my door, while I got ready, without being trampled in the narrow corridor was beyond me.

With Kyle leading, it was easy to navigate the crowds as people pushed to the walls to get out of his way. With his clean cut uniform of black cargo pants, boots and a white tee shirt, many eyed him covertly. The difference between us as obvious as night and day as he dragged my small physique behind his more powerful frame. It wasn’t usual for a Protector from the upper floors to be seen in the lower levels unless they were looking for someone on the run.

Kyle led me to the elevators set along the end of the long corridor that curved along the edges of the circular building. One of five set in a V shape, The Counsel building sat at the head. Housing the science flood as well as the training facility for all Protectors. We took the elevator to level ninety before heading out onto the walkway that attached the housing building to the council building where he would escort me to my work station.

Entering the corridor that would lead me to another boring day of attempting to come up with new ways to filter toxins out of our air and water systems, I tugged my hand back from Kyle to slow our progress.

Kyle stilled with a sigh, pulling a protein bar out of his back pocket. Opening the unregulated treat, he passed half the thick vegetable protein in my direction. I knew he wouldn’t be satisfied until I had eaten my half and I paused outside the door to my lab, savoring the false chocolate flavor as I studied Kyle out of the corner of my eye.

I noticed the shadow in his eyes and the frown pulling at his lips and I immediately felt guilty. Kyle spent so much time worrying about me that it made concentrating on his own job that much harder.

“I’m ok you know.” I told him softly

He glanced at me before going back to studying the stark white walls of the corridor once again.

“I’m sure you are.” He said blandly.

Once upon a time he would have pressed me about what my nightmares had been about, but after months of dodging his penetrating questions; to the point of avoiding his company, he had relented. He hadn’t asked me one imposing question in nearly six months. The guilt of not sharing with him something so painful to me weighed heavily on my conscious.

“So what’s bothering you?” I asked

His words made the blood rush faster in my veins, and I stood straight, locking my knees in an attempt not to wilt against the wall. “My father said The Counsel wishes to speak with me this evening.”

“Why would The Counsel wish to speak with you?” I asked, my voice trembling

He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly as possible. “I don’t have the faintest idea why, but according to father, Khivar will be in attendance.”

At the sound of Khivar’s name, I shuddered.

I didn’t have much contact with the Head Counsel member, accept when I pleaded with the council to release information concerning the deaths of my parents. Khivar had taken one look at me, patted my head like a puppy and told me in no uncertain terms that there was no information to share. I’ve hated him ever since.

Khivar and his cronies walked the halls of the Five like nothing could touch them. It had been his right hand women; Tessa, that had personally evicted me from my families’ apartments. She had taken a certain amount of glee informing me that my family’s home would be going to her cousin Nicholas, as he had recently been mated with a Crossbreed named Valandra, Lonnie to those who had grown up with her.

Lonnie grew up three levels below Kyle and myself. Shy to the point of blending in with the nondescript white walls, she had been unremarkable in her schooling and abilities development. Mating with Nicholas was an advancement for her, and after, she had slowly morphed into a falsely confident women who liked to throw around the fact that she mated with the Head of Security.

I found the whole situation kind of revolting.

Finishing up my half of the protein bar I whipped my fingers on my pants before stepping toward the entrance to the lab. “I will be here at the end of your shift.” Kyle said with a smile, I smiled back as I watched him turn to head for his own post up on the security floor. Protecting suited Kyle just fine.

Entering the lab, I stood in the front chamber while the decontamination procedure took place. Once done I donned my light blue lab coat that signified me as a Lab assistance and headed in the direction of my station.

Placing a hand on my terminals’ computing system, I waited patiently while a small drop of blood was drawn to identify my genetic code. My workstations screen came alive and I pulled up my job listing sent to me by my boss.

I let myself drift into my work. The monotonous testing of water samples made it seem as if time stopped altogether. I didn’t mind it though. The tedious work allowed me to forget the fact that I wasn’t going anywhere. The routines wouldn’t change and I always knew what to expect. I liked it that way.

It was this feeling of predictability that was shattered when some hours later the lab door chimed. I didn’t pay any attention to it until I heard my name being spoken through the viewer.

Glancing up, I was surprised to see Jim standing outside the lab doors with Tess. Both were flanked by four protectors dressed in purple. Standing I walked closer so the viewer could identify to them that I was indeed inside, as was procedure. Jim was frowning as he noticed the look of confusion on my face.

“Elizabeth Parker, your presence is required by the counsel.” Tess stated, barely looking at the viewer.

I nodded dumbly, before realizing she wouldn’t see it if she wasn’t looking at the viewer.
“Y-Yes Mam” I stated as confidently as I could.

I didn’t look at Jim before stripping off my Lab coat and handing it on the hook near my station. Quickly shutting down my station I once again went through decontamination on my way out the lab.

I wrung my hands as I exited, finding myself in front of Jim and Tess. My heart beat loudly in my ears as the six protectors flanked me as I followed Jim and Tess down the corridor toward the elevator.

“Where’s Kyle?” I asked out loud. I didn’t direct it toward Jim, but I glanced at him expecting him to answer me. Jim glanced at me with a frown, quickly shaking his head.

“Shouldn’t my Protector be with me if I am heading into the presence of the Counsel?” I asked

I stopped walking before we reached the elevator. “Jim, answer me!”

Tess’s back stiffened slightly and I could feel the threat of the six unknown protectors pressing against my back. I stiffened my own back as Tess turned to face me.

“Don’t you dare take such a disrespectful tone with us, my dear. “ Tess sneered.

“It’s a good thing I wasn’t speaking to you then.” I sneered back.

Jim’s eyes widened as I felt hands grab my elbow. I didn’t pay them any attention as I attempted to pull away. I could once again hear blood rushing in my ears.

“She’s afraid.” A gruff voice behind me stated as the protector holding my elbow used his empathy to read my emotional state.

Jim nodded, narrowing his eyes at the hands holding me. They let go but I could feel the reluctance in the way they slowly pulled away.

“Of course she is” Jim growled. He looked at me, “Liz, I promise all will be fine, just don’t fight.”

My breathing escalated as I felt the hesitation behind his promise. “Where is Kyle?” I asked again.

There were only two reasons that The Counsel singled out individuals within the population. One being you were in trouble, and being set for sentencing and two because they were making a life changing decision on your behalf without getting your opinion on the matter. I didn’t think I had done anything wrong. I hadn’t broken any laws that would require me to be sentenced for and if they were making a change, I needed Kyle with me.
I pleaded at Jim with my eyes, “Please Jim, I need Kyle.” I hated how week and pathetic my voice sounded to my own ears.

Jim stepped toward me, hesitantly glancing at Tess as he did so. When he turned to face me his features hardened. He placed his hands on my shoulders, squeezing enough to make me squirm. I wasn’t used to anyone accept for Kyle touching me, and even if I considered Jim a friend I didn’t like the look he had in his eyes. Whatever The Counsel had in store for me, he was happy it didn’t involve his son.

“Your stronger then this Liz” Jim stated, “and you don’t need Kyle to hold your hand.”

My lower lip trembled slightly. “I didn’t do anything wrong.” I whispered for his ears only.

I meant it for his ears only but the empty corridor amplified my words, causing Tess to huff in irritation. “We don’t have time for this, grab her and let’s go. He doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”

Jim’s hands slipped from my shoulders as rough hands once again grabbed my elbows, nearly lifting me off my feet as we continued toward the elevator.

A feeling of panic overtook my system, and I all of a sudden knew that getting on that elevator was the last thing I wanted to do.

May I say I am really looking forward to your new matured version of "A Gift to Liz".

Now here I am happy to see Kyle protecting Liz......how long have her parents been gone.
He takes care of her and is concerned with her station in life.
I'm curious about the "advanced" humans........
Can't wait for more,
Carolyn
