Post by starcrazed »

Title: An Impulsive Act by the Granilith
Author: starcrazed
Disclaimer: The characters of "Roswell" belong to Jason Katims, Melinda Metz, WB, and UPN. Words taken from Viva Las Vegas.
Category: Everyone, CC
Rating: TEEN
Summary: Takes place during Viva Las Vegas when everyone is dancing. The Granilith steps in, tired of the misuse of its power and the continuous failures of the Pod Squad as they jump through time.

Author’s Note: This idea kept running through my head, and I had to get it out because it was causing delays in my other stories. It’s just a short one part. Hope you enjoy it.

“…I had this weird moment.”

“What do you mean?”

“I saw this vision. You and me, jumping out of a cab like we’d just been married in Vegas.”

“That’s weird.”

“Yeah…It’s like this…this memory flash of something that really happened.”

“Max…ah…Max.”

Time froze in that instant, not metaphorically speaking. Time actually stopped as Liz Parker internally struggled with herself to reveal a secret that had been killing her for the past six months.

The Granilith had experienced too many lifetimes with these fools. No, fools wasn’t the right word. He didn’t want to be misunderstood. They were a great bunch of people to spend numerous lifetimes with. If the Granilith had to pick a group of teens, it probably couldn’t find a better group. But enough was enough.

At this point Liz Parker only knew of a future Max, but soon there would be many more. Future Max’s, Future Isabel’s even Michael managed to make it back to try and change things once or twice. If the Granilith really wanted to think about it and remember it all the Granilith would recall a time when even Liz herself had attempted to go back. That was the time they discovered only the hybrids could go back in time.

If the Granilith could, it would sigh. Part of the problem was their never-ending belief that they deserved more than the end of the world.

What if the world was actually suppose to end; what if this group of teens weren’t meant to end up together: happily ever after.

Maybe it was their god forbid ‘destiny’ to struggle to make it past their teenage years just to have each other ripped away from each other one way or another in the years that followed.

Maybe it was better that Khivar attacks Earth decimating the population and wrecking havoc on the natural resources.

So many things the Granilith could do. Go back and keep the hybrids in their pods for an extra twenty years, arrange it so they leave Roswell when they get picked up on the side of the road, or maybe even go back just enough so Liz Parker is never shot then Max won’t have to take that risk and send all this into motion.

The Granilith observed the eight of them scatter around the dance floor.

For all of their faults maybe they were right.

Maybe they did deserve to live happily ever after.

Considering they were all very intelligent, logical people they would not continue to mess with the past on some whim. Perhaps they knew something the Granilith didn’t.

In the end it was a combination of factors that allowed the Granilith to restart time and send them on a path that none of the future selves had ever considered. Something they would have never been capable of accomplishing.

He created a new path for them that very instant in Las Vegas, but it would be their last chance.

He led them, actually forced them to follow their hearts in this moment before it would be too late for them to do so. He took away their doubts and insecurities, which the Granilith didn’t understand in the first place. Having witness a combined total of 197, not including those years before Liz was shot, as these teens fought to stay together.

Obviously they believed they were meant to be together, the Granilith didn’t know what it was that made them realize it so late in life. So it decided to give them a head start. Not with the grand hopes of saving the world, but with an urge to preserve what remained of the time/space spectrum.

In the end it was the blinding smile on Maria’s face;

the peaceful belonging reflected on Tess’s;

the disbelieving relief in Alex’s eyes;

the glimmer of hope in Kyle’s;

the inner beauty showing in Isabel’s stance;

the lazy relaxation in Michael’s;

the mounting doubt shadowing Liz’s face;

and the questioning love in Max’s eyes that allowed the Granilith to take a leap of faith.

To act before a time when called upon by the King of Antar.

When the Granilith allowed for time to start again it truly would be a different world that they would live in now.

One where even the all powerful Granilith did not know the final outcome.

The Granilith would make them act and instill the lingering need to follow their hearts. After that it was up to them to work it out, and get that better life they were so sure they deserved.

The Granilith, if it could, would chuckle to itself as it considered what needed to be done. Out of all the couples it was the most combustible pair that were the most stable, who actually remained the most loyal to their hearts in all the years the Granilith had shared with them.

Oh well, it would be a new world soon. Hopefully a better one like they all so desperately worked for.

The Granilith hoped it was worth it.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Being that the Granilith was an all powerful thing, when time restarted no one actually realized it had ever stopped.

As Maria turned to Michael who was approaching her she reached up on her tiptoes to kiss him in thanks.

“I love you Maria.”

Tears gathered in her green eyes blurring Michael’s features, but that didn’t matter, long ago she had memorized his face, imprinted his very being onto her own soul.

“I love you, Spaceboy.”

Not caring about her ruined make-up or the fact that she was up on stage she reached for Michael to kiss him, spilling all the passion and love she had for him in that one action. He held her up as the flashes flew past her closed eyelids. She pulled back with a watery smile, “Oh Michael.”

It wasn’t much of a difference from where they were headed eventually, but it was enough for the two of them to never be apart again.

It was a moment Maria recalled in a couple months time when Billy Darden would show up on her doorstep. To Billy and the outside world it might seem like Michael stifled her dreams, but Maria knew, and the rest of the group would remember in time, that it was Michael who made Maria’s dream come true.

Something Michael would continue to do when he was the first out of the group to ask Maria to marry him, when he blessed her with four beautiful children, and then supported and protected them for the rest of their lives as she recorded numerous albums and he became a well known artist, blissfully bickering through it all.

So wrapped up in their embrace on stage the dueling duo failed to noticed the exchanges going on around the dance floor that would forever alter their lives.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It was hardly the place for the confessions that flew from their lips, but for some reason all three of them couldn’t help themselves.

Professing what was on their hearts was more important than their next breath.

So it was in the smoking dance floor with the last notes of Maria’s song floating in the air that three voices spoke quietly and truthful to the person who was holding them tightly in their arms.

“I didn’t sleep with Kyle.”

“I don’t love Max. I never have.”

“Alex, I’m ready to let you in now. Really let you in all the way. If you still want me that is.”

Confusion and absolute joy shone in Max’s eyes. Liz was relieved that they once again gazed at her with love instead of that hurt look or even worse the indifference. After Liz was able to admit to that lie the rest of the tale of Future Max was revealed once they had returned to Roswell. They agreed to stop trying to protect each other, stop trying to save each other at the risk of themselves.

When the time actually came to face off against the enemy Tess was still around and Max and Liz had been happily married for eight years with one child and another on the way. They had decided not to elope, but had a real wedding after they both graduated from Harvard, Liz becoming a molecular biologist as Max studied law.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The glimmer of hope that was in Kyle’s eyes before exploded as his blue eyes sparkled and he lowered his lips to Tess’s. Tess allowed her body to melt into Kyle’s as the tingles traveled through her body.

It was a few days after their return to Roswell that she shared with the others about the deal Nasedo had made with Khivar. Kyle stood beside her the whole time especially as she confessed to the mind warping of Alex. Max healed him, sharing the amount of damage Tess had caused in his mind. Tess broke down into a fit of sobs, never actually meaning to hurt Alex. Michael held Maria back and Max had an arm on Liz, but when Alex sat beside Tess and pulled her into a hug the rest of them really had no choice but to work towards forgiving her.

There were many tears and a few rough patches in the years that followed, but in time Tess was part of not just the Valenti family giving Jim and Amy two grandsons and a granddaughter, but all eight of them were bound by ties ticker than blood.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Alex tried to form a response, but all he managed were a few baffled stutters before a goofy grin spread across his entire face. Isabel’s vulnerability and fear was appeared on her features and when the smile finally made its way across his face Isabel didn’t hesitate to smile herself. Alex pulled her back to him kissing her softly on the lips as they continued to dance.

The close call with death had Isabel at Alex’s side for the rest of their lives. Never again was she accused of pushing him away for his own safety or because of her own fear.

Each obstacle they had they faced together from than on. Isabel followed Alex to California where he studied computers and started a small recording studio that became a huge success when the records of Maria DeLuca hit the charts and stayed at number one slots for weeks. Isabel herself went into social services working specifically with foster kids, making sure that never again would any child end up in the same situation that Michael had. The birth of their own children only reinforced Isabel’s work ethic.

When the enemies came Alex and Isabel had two girls, after the War Alex was a desperate for a boy determined not to end up like Michael and Maria with four girls. On Christmas eve, the Christmas Nazi gave birth to baby boy Whitman, two months later the last child of the group was born. A fifth child, a boy to Michael and Maria Guerin.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Over the years the Granilith continued to watch them grow. It watched as they struggled to complete high school as normal teenagers. It was sometime during the summer before college that they realize and accepted they would never be normal. It took another year with the birth of the first Guerin baby girl for them to acknowledge they were more than okay with never being normal.

The Granilith smiled upon each of them as they were married and their families expanded from eight to twenty-one not including the parents who were told the secret after they had finished college, shortly before the war began.

It wasn’t a battle like they had ever fought before. They were united. They were confident. They were practiced in their skills. They understood and knew how to use the Granilith.

Khivar arrived one day with his small army of ruthless Skins. It was a little less than three months later he was gone and Max had reclaimed his throne only to abdicate it a month later when Antar’s democratic government stabilized.

Before doing so Max made a Royal Decree that the Granilith was never again to be used for time travel. Then he sent the Granilith home to Larek who would watch over it and guide future generations into it’s power.

It was many years later as the Granilith watched from it’s new home that it realized these eight crazy fools where right. They did deserve more then the end of the world.

The Granilith recalled how much was between them so long ago as they danced together in Las Vegas without actually being together. It was much different now as they all gather in the Guerin home as the oldest came back from the hospital with the first of the next generation.

Amy was very displeased with becoming a great-grandmother. Maria was in denial that she was now a grandmother and Michael was even less pleased with the situation. That was until he laid eyes on little Laurie Evans.

If the Granilith could it would have joined them in celebration. After all it had spent many lifetimes with them, over two hundred years now. Some of those years much more difficult then others, but certainly none as happy as this one and for that the Granilith was thankful. Thankful that it trusted what their hearts were screaming at them and forced them to follow their hearts. Something they did then and very few time since then have they ever stopped.

The End.
