Chapter 15
"Max, wakey, wakey," Liz said, shaking him awake as she plugged her nose. She had decided that she'd pick up Max for school, at his apartment, and she was almost regretting it. It was so unkempt and it smelled, BAD.
"Noooo," he groaned, pushing her away.
"Max, it smells in here, and we're going to be LATE for school. Now if you want to skip, that's fine, but you're going to be CLEANING this dump all day," Liz said, shaking him again.
"Ok, ok, I'm up!" Max exclaimed, slowly sitting up.
"Yeah, that's what I thought," Liz said, ruffling his bed hair affectionately before walking over to the little kitchen.
She opened the refrigerator door, promptly closing it as the smell got worse.
"Ever heard of baking soda?" Liz exclaimed, laughing, but abruptly stopping as Michael came out of his bedroom, rubbing his eyes, Pam Troy following him.
"Oh, hi Liz," Pam said groggily, giving her a smile and walking out into the living room.
"You...you fucking BASTARD!" Liz nearly screamed, as she stared daggers at Michael.
"Liz," he began, but she launched herself at him, punching every place she could on his body.
"You...fucking...jackass!...Got....Maria...pregnant...irresponsible...piece of SHIT!" Liz screamed in-between punches.
"Liz!" came Max's voice as he ran into the room, trying to pull Liz off of Michael.
"BASTARD!" She screamed once more as Max had to literally pull her off of him.
Max shot Michael an apologetic look before dragging Liz into the next room.
"Max, if you WANT to have a fiancée tomorrow, then you will let me go kill his ass right NOW!" Liz exclaimed.
"Liz, calm down!" Max exclaimed, making her sit down on his bed.
"Max, do you know how much he is hurting Maria? Do you know how much he has changed her life? She wanted to go to college, and sing, and she can't do that with a baby Max! She can't pay for college and pay to raise a child!" Liz exclaimed in fury.
When Max didn't reply, Liz let out a deep breath and stood up. "Just...I don't know, I gotta get out of here," she said, turning to leave.
She let out a deep breath as she approached the front door, "Well…now I know where your priorities lie," she whispered before leaving.
"Liz, wait!" Max called as the door slammed shut.

Liz's car screeched to a halt as she pulled up in front of the school, slamming her door shut and pulling her ring off of her finger, gazing down at it with shaking hands for a second before stuffing it in her glove box.
She slung her backpack over her shoulder and stormed into school, everyone getting out of her way as it was clear that she was mad.
"Slut," she heard someone hiss as she walked by, Liz halting in her tracks to turn around, glaring the girl in the eye.
"Shut. The FUCK up you good for nothing cheerleading whore!" She hissed before whipping her head around and walking towards her locker.
"Whoa...Liz...what's goin' on?" a voice asked and she turned around furiously.
"Nothing, Kyle," she spat, opening her locker.
"Liz, please. We were dating almost 2 years. I know when you're pissed, and I know when you're upset. The way it looks, you're a bit of both right now," Kyle said.
She slammed her locker shut and stared down at the ground, letting her hair fall in front of her face.
"Come on, tell me what it is," Kyle said, placing his hand softly on her arm.
She felt tears hit her face and before she knew it, she was in Kyle's arms, sobs racking her whole body.
"Hey, it's okay...what did he do Liz?" Kyle asked softly. He didn't know why he was here, comforting her, but as he held her crying in his arms, he made up his mind, holding her a little tighter.
"He just...and then Michael...and then he..." Liz gasped through sobs, burying her face into Kyle's chest.
"It will be alright, it will Liz," Kyle whispered, kissing her on the forehead just as Max stepped into the school.
Kyle fell silent and Liz looked up, seeing Max, though she couldn't see well through her tears.
She sniffed before placing her head back on his chest, her ring less left hand visible on his arm.
Kyle glanced over at Max one last time before kissing Liz's head, stroking her hair softly.
"Take me to English Kyle," she said softly as the warning bell rang throughout the hallways.
"Sure thing," he said, taking her hand in his as they walked down the hall.

Liz almost skipped AP Bio later that day, if her teacher hadn't seen her in the hallway earlier, it would've been a sure thing, so now she walked to class slowly, her feet dragging along the cold tile floors.
She walked into the room, thankful that Max's seat was empty. She took her seat and opened one of her newest books, waiting for class to begin.
She felt his presence as soon as he stepped foot into the room, the hairs on the back of her neck sticking up with anticipation.
He sat down without a word, staring down at his hands which were placed on the desk.
"Today, you and your lab partner are going to be continuing your work on your finals, which are due next Tuesday, if you were absent yesterday, come to my desk, I'll tell you what to do," Mr. Seligman said to the class before turning around and sitting down at his desk.
Liz glanced over at him before standing up. They were both absent the day before, having decided to take a day of rest after their trip.
"Ms. Parker, welcome back," he said dryly as she approached his desk, "You have all of your makeup work I assume? You too Mr. Evans?"
"Yes, Mr. Seligman," Max said, his eyes and his attention focused on what Mr. Seligman was saying, trying not to look over at Liz.
"Okay, good," he said before giving them all of the information they needed to do their finals, which would be a project.
They returned to their seats, neither saying anything or making eye-contact.
Liz pulled her hair back in a ponytail as she reached for the paper which was in front of her, Max reaching for it at the same time.
Their fingers brushed against each other, both pulling away instantly.
"Uhm, so I was thinking I'd do the research...you can do the...physical work," Liz said, reaching for the paper when she was sure he wasn't going to.
"Right," he replied, hesitantly looking up at her.
She blinked before looking back down, biting her lip nervously as she played with the end of her ponytail, reading the paper.
After a moment, he slowly reached for her hand, letting his fingers slip through hers.
She closed her eyes, a tear slipping out as he held her hand tight in his, not letting go.
"I..." she began, not able to finish as another tear fell from her eye.
His other hand was wiping away her tears a moment later, gently, "Can we talk, Liz? After class?" he whispered.
She swallowed her tears and nodded wordlessly, closing her eyes and taking her hand away from his.
She sniffed and wiped her nose before picking up her pencil and beginning to write down information, Max doing the same in his seat until the bell rang.
They both got up at the same time, walking out of class together, neither saying anything.
Liz thought that maybe he had changed his mind, until she felt his hand, gently pulling her in another direction until they were out of the school.
He took a deep breath and whispered, "You're not wearing your ring."
"I know," she replied, looking down at her hand.
"I...saw you with Kyle," he said softly, his gaze fixed on her.
"I was upset. I had every right to be comforted," she said in reply.
"I know," Max said, running a hand through his hair, something he always did when he was upset.
"Max, I have to get to class," Liz said after another moment of silence.
"Yeah...yeah, me too," he replied. They were silent again until Liz whispered.
"I...I can give you the ring back after school...just stop by the Crashdown, I'll be there," and with that, she was gone, leaving Max filled with shock, hurt and sadness.
~*~
Max clutched the steering wheel of his old Chevelle as he drove to work. He was half tempted to turn the car around and go to the Crashdown, try and talk things out with Liz, but he knew that wouldn’t be so easy.
He couldn't believe what had happened today. She was giving him back his ring. They were over. It was all he could do from breaking down right then and there in the car.
Maybe he had just been fooling himself this entire time. Getting married out of high school sounded like such a perfect plan to him back when he thought about it, but he didn't know now.
He pulled into the law firm's parking lot, turning off the car and resting his head against the steering wheel, letting out a long, deep breath.
After a few moments he glanced down at his watch and sighed before getting out of the car and heading in for work.

Max slowly got out of the car and started toward the ladder to Liz's balcony. After work, he bought Liz a bouquet of white roses, her favorite.
Sticking them in the crook of his shoulder, he quickly scaled the wall and jumped softly onto her balcony, bending over to look in her window.
He saw she was in her bed, under the covers and reading a book, totally unaware of his presence.
He let out a soft sigh as he gazed at her, she was so beautiful even then.
He moved to open the window, his face falling when he realized that it was locked.
Her head snapped up and she saw him, frowning slightly before getting up.
She picked up something on her nightstand before going over to the window, unlocking and opening it.
Before she could say anything, Max took his arm out from behind him, holding out the flowers, his eyes locking on hers as he held his breath in anticipation.
She took his free hand in hers, placing the small ring in his palm and closing his hand over it.
He looked down at their hands before looking back up at her, "...Liz, we can work this out," he said softly.
"I don't...I don't think we can, Max," she said quietly, her voice emotionless.
"Liz, we had one fight! Are we just going to quit after every fight? Are you going to...going to go running for another man's arms?" Max asked her.
"I didn't go running into Kyle's arms, Max...he was there and he comforted me," Liz said, her voice now choked with tears.
"That's what I'm here for Liz! That's what I've always been here for!" Max exclaimed, "You should've let me do that! I'm sorry that I couldn't side with you, but I won't be able to side with your every time Liz, just like you wont be able to side with me every time we fight, or one of us gets in a fight!"
"Please, Liz...I don't want to lose you over something stupid like this," he said softly.
"Why didn't you come earlier?" she asked him, not moving.
"I had to work," he told her.
"You don't start until 4," she said pointedly.
"Well...uhm..." he stammered. "Max, just tell me," she said.
"Someone sort of came to Roswell...and caught me by surprise. Can I come in? It's freezing out here Liz," Max said.
She thought for a moment before nodding, moving out of the way for him to come in.
He quickly came in, handing her the flowers that were still in his hand, before walking over to a chair by her dresser, sitting down.
She laid the flowers down on the bed and sat there, facing him. "So, who's in Roswell that caught you by surprise?" she asked him.
"Well, you know right after I came back, you were asking about my love life in Washington, and I told you about Tess. Well yeah, she's...she's sort of here," Max said.
"Oh...so you were with her after school," she said slowly.
"She sort of sought me out. Her dad got a job here, he's in the army," Max told her.
"Oh," she said, kind of awkwardly. Max stood up and walked over to the bed, sitting down next to her. He reached for her hand, just like he had earlier in school, and didn't let go.
"Nothing happened. We dated when we were sophomores Liz, not like you and...Kyle," he said, his voice a sneer at the last part.
"Nothing's going on with me and Kyle, Max," she said softly.
"I saw you guys in the hall, Liz, you know I did," Max said.
"Like I said, he was comforting me after...what happened," she told him.
"Well, it looked like he had a little more on his mind than comforting you Liz," Max said before standing up and taking off his shirt and jeans.
"What are you doing?" she asked him.
"Well, Tess is staying at our apartment until her dad gets here, so I thought I would stay here, unless you didn't want me to, I could stay there," Max said, shrugging.
She was silent until she nodded. "You can stay here," she said quietly.
"Okay. I'm going to take a shower before I go to bed," he said, walking into the bathroom and shutting the door.
She sighed and picked up the flowers from the bed, noticing that he had set the ring next to them.
She shook her head softly, placing both things on her nightstand as she went to get his sleeping bag from the closet.
Fifteen minutes later, Max came out of the shower, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist.
Liz was standing out on the balcony, a jacket on to cover her arms and slippers on her feet, as she looked up at the sky.
He saw her and slid on his boxers and a t-shirt, joining Liz on the balcony.
"Max, you're going to freeze your ass off," Liz said as she saw him next to her.
"I don't mind," he said, shrugging.
"You're crazy. Don't come whining to me when you catch pneumonia," Liz said, glancing in the opposite direction.
He hesitantly moved closer to her, running his hand down her arm until his fingers brushed against hers.
"I love you Liz," he whispered.
She stayed silent as he brought his hand up to her face, softly caressing her cheek.
"I'm not coming to your apartment while he's there anymore Max," Liz said, holding her coat closer to herself.
"I understand," he breathed, his face now close to hers.
"And you're sleeping on the floor tonight," She continued.
"Of course," he replied, one arm now around her waist.
"...No sex," she breathed.
He didn't answer, just kissed her tenderly.
Liz's eyes closed slowly as he kissed languidly, each kiss with the same tingling affect to her spine.
His hands were all over her body, as if he were touching her for the first time. She softly moaned his name, her hands doing their own exploring.
Max started to slide her jacket off of her shoulders when he remembered that they were still outside in the middle of winter.
He pulled away and extended his hand for her to take, but she shook her head. "No sex, Max," she told him.
"I know," he said, smirking lightly as she tentatively reached for his hand. He led her back into the bedroom, closing the window once they were in.
Liz's jacket was already off by the time Max got back to her, kissing her softly. Somehow, they ended up on the bed, practically ripping each other's clothes off.
Liz arched her back, moaning breathily as his hand brushed against her breast on his way to remove her tank top, his shirt already off.
Her tank top was gone and his lips moved down to her neck, venturing lower as she continued to moan.
He toyed with the waistband to her pajama pants, looking up at Liz. She moaned in impatience, gazing up at him with passion in her eyes.
He stopped, sliding his hands up her body and looking down in her eyes, "You said..." he said, trailing off.
"Forget what I said, Max," she breathed. "Make love to me."
He nodded, smiling down at her and kissing her passionately, his lips trailing across her jaw and to her ear, "I love you so much," he whispered as he pulled down her pajama pants.
"Mmmm...I love you too," she moaned, her hands moving to remove his boxers.
Once they were off Max looked at her with more passion than he ever had before, leaning forward all of a sudden and snatching something off of her side table.
He held the ring in front of her eyes, his eyes asking her the question. She hesitated, but only for a second before holding her left hand out for him. He smiled and slid the ring onto her finger, kissing her hand.
"Okay Max. So...why are you still sitting there?" Liz asked, sitting up as well.
“Good question," he said, kissing her passionately.
His hand trailed down to her breasts, finding one quickly and softly massaging it as she moaned, his lips attacking her neck.
"Max, please," she moaned as they kissed over and over again.
"Mmm," he moaned as her hand found his hard shaft, stroking it again and again.
She moved so that she was kneeling in front of him, placing her mouth firmly over his hard cock and slowly sucking on him, her hand pumping him at the same time. Max let out low moans over and over again, his hand tangling in Liz’s hair as she continued to pleasure him.
It wasn't long before he came into her mouth, moaning her name over and over. She smiled up at him, swallowing his seed as she took him by the shoulders and lay him down on the bed, wrapping her leg around his backside, his cock rising back to life almost immediately.
He kissed her intensely as they became one, Liz moaning into his mouth as he entered her slowly.
Max closed his eyes as he slowly moved in her until he was all the way in, letting out a long moan before steadily rocking his hips, moving in and out of her as she let out soft cries of pleasure.
He reached his hand down, softly stroking her little love button, a high pitched cry coming from her mouth as he continued.
"Ohhh, MAX!" she cried as she climaxed, going nearly crazy with ecstasy.
Max wasn't done yet though, and he kept pumping into her over and over again, breathing heavily as Liz cried out his name over and over again.
He kissed her fiercely, continuing his ministrations. She seemed to lose herself in his kiss, every moment bringing her closer and closer to another release.
"Oh God Max....oh God....Max!" she cried out over and over again, his mouth reaching down for her own to muffle her cries.
"Liiiz," he groaned, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he continued to thrust in and out of her.
Liz felt her body shudder as she approached yet another orgasm, wrapping her arms around Max's toned body and clinging there for dear life as he rode her.
He climaxed at the same moment as her, moaning her name again and again and again.
Breathing heavily he nuzzled his head in her neck, breathing in her sweet aroma as she regained her strength.
"I love you, Max," she whispered in his ear.
"I love you too, so much," he replied, kissing her languidly before rolling off of her.
"I'm sorry about today, Max...I really don't like fighting with you," she said softly, moving over to him and resting her cheek against his chest.
"I hate being the reason we're fighting, even more than fighting with you," he said, twining his legs with hers so that they were as close as possible.
She sighed and wrapped her arms around him, slowly falling asleep.
