Okay guys. We've come to the end at last. I know, I know... shocked gasps all around, right? Maybe even a moan of despair if I'm lucky? LOL!

Chapter Nineteen</center>
You may have thought nothing could top Isabel’s dramatic exit, but you’d be wrong.
After Alex managed to pull himself together enough to pack up and leave, Joe walked in.
When he caught sight of Nick and Kyle talking together, his brows drew together and he stalked over with a dark frown.
Of course, Maria and I immediately made ourselves available to overhear everything. Holding each other’s arms, we snuck behind the wall and eavesdropped.
“I thought I told you not to come in tonight?”
I raise a brow at Joe’s growl. Whoa. Someone’s still not happy.
“I’m here as a customer,” is Nick’s defiant response. “What, am I banned now?”
Joe runs a hand through his hair, and yanks Nick away from a confused Kyle. After walking them both a few feet away, he lets loose. “I gave you the night off because of everything that’s happened!”
Nick stiffens. “So I’m supposed to sit at home and mope and drink myself into a stupor? Because you
know that’s what would happen, J. And I can’t stand that.”
“No! For chrissake, Nick, just… take it easy. Call some friends and just… hang out.”
Nick shoots a pointed gaze in Maria and my direction. We bite our lips sheepishly, knowing we’re caught. “That’s what I thought I was doing.”
Wow, I’ve never heard him use that cold tone on Joe. Joe looks taken aback as well, and he reaches out a hand to touch Nick’s shoulder.
Nick shifts away, a blank expression on his face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you didn’t want me here,” he says stiffly, “I’ll leave.”
With that, he turns and walks out, avoiding everyone who stops to talk to him.
I look back at Joe, and my heart breaks for the frustrated expression on his handsome face. He curses, then turns and stalks into his office.
Kyle wanders over to join us. “What the hell is going on? First Isabel… then Nick? And what the hell is wrong with Joe?”
Maria looks confused as well, and I remember she still has no idea about Nick’s dad. “He and Nick had an argument. Do you know what that was about, Liz?”
Two pairs of questioning eyes focus on me. Damn. “Um… I uh…”
“Hey guys.”
“Max!” I cry, thankful for the interruption. I just don’t feel like it’s my place to spread Nick’s business around, even if it
is only Kyle and Maria. “What’s going on?”
His eyes catch my pleading look, and he steps in smoothly. “You guys want a drink? I’m taking a break and Mike’s got the bar.”
“Great idea!” I nod my head. “Come on, guys.”
Kyle shrugs, looking back over at Serena. “Why is she wearing that?” he mutters.
Maria raises a brow. “Kyle, all the waitresses are dressed like that.”
“Yeah, but she doesn’t have to like it so much,” he responds, gritting his teeth as Serena continues to be approached by the male clientele.
Max, Maria and I share a knowing smile.
“Come on, Kyle. Drown your sorrows with a beer,” Max slings a friendly arm around Kyle’s shoulders.
Kyle perks up. “Really? A beer?”
“Sure. A root beer.”
Kyle groans, but follows us to the bar.
Michael looks up and makes a face when he sees me. “You know I don’t like you coming here,” he points out, effortlessly filling three drink orders at once.
I stare back at his challenging gaze. “I’m sorry, I must have missed the memo where it said you were in charge of what I do,” I answer calmly, swinging onto a bar stool.
His lips turn downwards. “This is no place for you to be, Lizzie. It gets crazy here sometimes, and I don’t want something to happen to you.”
I’m starting to get annoyed. “Listen,
Michael-“
Then I feel Max’s hand squeezing my shoulder. “Come on buddy, she’s fine. We’re all here with her.”
I want to shake away from his touch and demand that I be treated like a damn adult, but I know he’s only trying to diffuse the situation. I stew in silence.
Michael raises a brow as Max’s hand remains on my shoulder. “Well, whatever, Max. As long as you keep an eye on her. I’m not letting any of these horndogs around my baby sister.”
That’s it. “I’m not a
baby, you freaking idiot!”
Everyone around us looks over at my loud exclamation, and I would normally be embarrassed at the attention. But right now, my cheeks are flushed for a completely different reason.
How dare he treat me like a little kid? And in front of Max, no less.
“Liz, calm down,” Maria bites her lip nervously. She knows that I rarely lose my temper, but when I do, it’s always bad. “He didn’t mean anything…”
“Oh yes, he did,” I retort hotly, glaring at my brother. “He meant that I’m too pure, too
innocent to sit at a
bar with all of you around. That God forbid, a
man actually talk to me, because I might succomb to his seductive wiles because I’m
sooo naïve!”
Michael’s eyes are glittering as well. It’s that infamous Parker temper heating up. “That’s not what I meant, and you know it!”
I cock a brow sardonically. “Oh,
really? Well then, Michael, explain it to me!”
“Liz…”
“Stay out of this!” we both hiss at Max.
Kyle whistles, but neither of us notice.
“You’re eighteen goddamn years old!” Michael shouts, slamming a glass of beer down on the bar. The harried customer grabs the drink and hurries off. “You’re too young to be hanging around with the older men who come in this place!”
“Oh, but
Maria is old enough, right?” I spit back. “In case you haven’t realized, she’s
one year older than me! So is Kyle, but I don’t hear you reading
him the riot act!”
“Maria’s my girlfriend,” he answers, although he doesn’t meet my eyes. He
knows he’s wrong, but he’ll never back down. “And Kyle is a guy, he can take care of himself.”
Kyle’s long whistle turns into a groan.
I don’t even hear Max telling Michael to stop, my ears are ringing and a haze of dark red anger has fallen over my vision. “Oh
really?”
“Liz, listen…” Michael begins, but I cut him off.
“For your information, I’m not even a virgin!”
That does it.
Maria gasps, Max curses and Kyle turns to stare at me. Michael’s eyes practically bug out of his head.
“
What?!”
He then turns to Kyle with a threatening expression. “Valenti, start talking!” he bellows.
Kyle steps back and holds his hands up. “Wasn’t me, dude.”
“Oh, shut up!” I yell, too angry to care that we’re drawing all sorts of interested attention our way. Out of the corner of my eye I see Joe walking towards the circle of people surrounding us. “It wasn’t Kyle, it was Sean. Not that it’s any of your damn business.”
“Sean! Where is that little fucker!” Michael growls, looking ready to do someone serious damage. “Liz, how could you do that with
Sean? How could you do that at
all?!”
“Like you and Maria haven’t been boinking each others brains out since last year?” I snap.
“
Liz!” Maria gasps, and Max and Kyle turn to give her speculating expressions.
Michael turns beet red. “That’s not the issue! The issue is that you’ve been going behind my back and doing
God knows
what!”
“Okay, guys, seriously… this is getting out of control.”
Max. Always the peacekeeper. I shrug off his restraining hand, and lean forward, coming nose to nose with my brother.
“All right, you want to know everything I’ve been doing?”
His eyes narrow suspiciously, and I hear Max begin to say my name with worry. “Is there something else I should know?”
I spin around, grab Max’s shoulders and pull an Isabel, planting a kiss passionate with anger and frustration against his lips.
He’s too shocked to do anything but freeze, then his hands come up to cradle my face as he tries to gentle the kiss. “Liz…”
“
You son of a bitch!”
Glasses crash to the floor, then we’re violently ripped apart. Michael throws a fist into Max’s jaw, and Max staggers back.
“Michael!” Maria shrieks, and I wrap my arms around Max’s stomach as he tests his jaw.
Michael is red-faced and panting. “You bastard! I trusted you with her! How could you do this to me?”
I open my mouth to respond and put my brother in his place, but Max stops me.
“This is between Michael and me,” he says in a low voice, catching my gaze, his expression grim.
My anger dies away and I place a hand to my mouth. “Oh God, Max… I’m so sorry…”
He manages a small smile, which shows me he isn’t upset with me. “It’s all right, baby. He was going to find out eventually.”
I nod, but my eyes are filling with tears. In my anger, I’ve done something incredibly stupid.
I hadn’t wanted Michael to find out this way. But what’s done is done.
“Stay away from her!” Michael shouts, attempting to punch Max again, but Joe and Kyle grab him.
“Everybody out!” Joe yells over his shoulder, his expression dark. “We’re closing early!”
People look reluctant to move, but grumble and start making their way out the club.
“Somebody better start talking, and tell me why the hell it’s turned into a sideshow in here,” Joe growls.
Michael points a shaky finger in Max’s direction. “That
bastard has been screwing my sister! My own best friend!”
Everyone gasps and turns to stare at Max and I. Max has a dark frown on his face. Now he’s pissed.
“Don’t you
ever let me hear you talk that way about her again,” he says in a serious tone. “I don’t care how good of friends we are, I’ll take you down.”
“You’ll… we aren’t friends!” Michael sputters. “A friend wouldn’t fool around with another friend’s sister behind his damn back!”
Joe sighs and shakes his head. “Good Christ, this is
not what I need right now.”
“I
am your friend, Mike,” Max answers in a pained voice. “You’re the best friend I’ve ever had.”
Michael looks devestated. “How could you do this, Max? You know how I feel about her.”
Me? My gaze shifts to my brother, and I’m shocked to see tears gathering in his slate-gray eyes.
“I know how much you love her,” Max answers, taking a cautious step forward. “I know you feel the need to protect her. But Michael… don’t you know I feel the same way?”
Maria lets out a little sniff, and I turn to see her wiping at her eyes. Serena, who had walked up during the first punch, also seems a little watery.
Kyle and Joe simply exchange a glance before turning to the weeping females. Joe hugs Maria and Kyle places a hesitant arm around Serena.
In the meantime, Michael is staring at Max. “You… you love her?”
Max glances at me. “I love her with all my heart, Michael. I’ve loved her for years.”
My mouth drops open. “What?”
“This is so beautiful!” Maria cries, and Joe makes a soothing sound as he rubs her back, looking slightly bemused at the entire situation.
“And do you love him, Lizzie?” Michael turns to me. For once, the nickname doesn’t sound mocking. He looks defeated and confused.
I turn to where Max is staring at me, a shade of doubt in his golden eyes. “I… yes. I love him,” I whisper, and his eyes turn dark with some emotion as he gazes at me.
“You do?” he asks, and suddenly it’s just the two of us in that room.
“I’ve told you before. Why don’t you believe me?” I ask tenderly, reaching out to stroke his jaw.
His eyes close slightly, then his lids lift. “Because… it’s like a dream come true. I can’t believe it.”
I pull him closer. “Well, believe it. I love you, Max.”
Our lips meet, and I hear clapping behind us. This is ridiculous. I turn around and growl, “Do you guys mind?”
Michael steps up, looking sheepish. “Wow… I guess… I don’t really know what to think about this,” he admits, and I feel Max stiffen next to me. Then he adds with a sigh, “But… if you’re really in love with her and she loves you back…”
“Michael?” That’s Maria, coming to take her boyfriend’s hand in her own. She gives him a stern look and he nods.
“Then it’s all right by me,” he finishes, turning to encompass both Max and I in his gaze. “But if you hurt her, Maxwell, I don’t care how good of friends we are either. I’ll take
you down.”
Max doesn’t get upset by this declaration, he simply nods and the two men exchange a telling look.
Michael then turns to me. “Liz… I’m sorry for what I said to you. I just… I worry about you, you know?”
His tone is endearingly cautious. I step away from Max to meet my brother in the center of
Heaven’s Door.
“I’m not so little anymore, Michael.” He needs to understand this, to learn to accept it. “You can’t treat me like Little Lizzie.”
He hangs his head, running a hand through his hair. “I know… I know I can’t.”
“You have to let me make my own decisions, and live with the consequences. You have to stop worrying about me so much,” I continue, not unkindly.
His head lifts. “Don’t ask me that, you know I can’t stop worrying about you.”
“Michael-“
He holds up a hand. “No, Liz. No matter how old you are, I am your big brother. I’m always going to worry about you.”
As I stare into his eyes, I can see that he doesn’t mean it in an over-protective way. Just that he loves me, and wants what is best for me. “Okay. Okay, Michael.”
“Lizzie bear,” he says affectionately, and then we’re hugging and everyone is sniffling again, like this is the movie-of-the-week on
Lifetime.
I meet Max’s eyes over my brother’s shoulder, and he smiles at me, love shining in his eyes.
Michael and I break apart, and Max approaches us. He and Michael exchange a long look, then shake hands.
“Take care of her, Maxwell, or you answer to me.”
Max laughs at his threatening tone, and pulls Michael into a manly hug. They slap each other’s backs then step away.
“Guys… can I have a hug, too?” Kyle sniffs, and that breaks the tension as we all start laughing.

Later on, I lay underneath Max in his bed as he trails kisses down my neck.
“Are you mad at the way things turned out?” I ask hesitantly, wrapping my legs around his calves.
He stills, then pulls back to look me in the eye. He brushes back a strand of hair that has fallen into my eyes. “How could I be mad? I have everything I’ve ever wanted. Plus, we don’t have to hide from Michael anymore.”
I glance up at him from under lowered lids. “Yeah but… the way it all came out. I didn’t mean for it to happen that way, Max.”
He chuckles and nuzzles my neck with his nose. “Baby… I don’t care if you want to take an ad out in the paper. I love everyone knowing you’re mine. If you remember, it was
your idea to keep it from Mike.”
I glare at him. “Oh, yeah! Throw
that in my face!”
He laughs again. “You look so cute when you pout. It makes me so hot.”
My frown turns into a sly smile. “Oh, yeah?”
“Oh yeah,” he growls, capturing my lips.
I gasp as he slides inside me, thrusting deeply to the hilt. My inner walls clasp around him lovingly, and we both groan.
“Liz… I love you so much,” he whispers, cradling my face so that I look him in the eye. “The way I feel for you… this is it for me.”
Tears spike my lashes as I nod. “Me too, Max. I love you so much.”
Then we lose ourselves in each other, limbs tangling and soft gasps renting the air.
As he explodes inside me, I hear him whisper words that make me smile.
“Not so little anymore...”
