Somewhere in her heart she knew that they would never see them again. Then something changed.

This is set in 2005. Liz is presently going to Harvard. She is interning with the pathology department at the local hospital. Maria followed behind Liz. She couldn’t stand to be separated from her best friend. She is also going to Harvard. She wanted something to fall back on in case her music career didn’t work out. Kyle stayed in Roswell. <center>~Chapter One~</center>

Liz writes in her Journal:

January 1, 2005

Time: It seems to travel faster when you are busy. I remember when time didn’t always go by so fast. It seemed like one day lasted forever and the weekend always seemed so far away.

I thought I put Max Evans out of my mind forever, but he invades my dreams. It is almost like he died and his ghost haunts me. I can’t shake that fateful day at the crashdown café when the love of my life vanished like the northern lights.

I am currently working in a pathology lab. I never thought in a million years that I Liz Parker would be working near dead people. Sure, it's just an internship, but it does pay the bills. Maria isn’t exactly making millions as a waitress.

New years 2005 hasn’t started out the way I planned it to, of course things don’t always go as planned.

The sound of footsteps lurked in the corridor leading to the morgue. Liz looked up from her journal but didn’t see anybody. She closed the journal and put it in her book bag. She heard the footsteps again. This time Liz stood up and investigated the area. Still she found nothing. She was alone; maybe she shouldn’t be. Once more she heard footsteps. The pace was more rapid. They seemed to be approaching her, but she looked and saw nothing.

Then she hears a faint but familiar voice. “Parker,” the voice called out.

“Hello,” she said back. “Nobody is supposed to be in here,” she said with a slight attitude.

Must have been my imagination. She shrugged and grabbed her book bag.

Liz punched out and went to meet Maria. They both had a long week. Midterms were over finally.

As Liz walked down the long corridor to exit the lab, she had the distinct feeling that someone was following her. She picked up her speed. As she did, the feeling got more intense. She could hear heavy breathing. She was afraid to look behind her. She didn’t need to because the exit door was right in front of her.

Liz pushed the door open. She bolted through it, nearly knocking over a gurney with an elderly lady on it. She apologized and kept walking towards the front of the hospital.

Liz made her way to Maria’s car, which was sitting in an area where only visitors with patients were supposed to be waiting. Liz opened the passenger side of the Jetta.

“Hey, girlfriend, did you forget something?” Maria looked at Liz’s outfit because she was still wearing her scrubs, hospital green.

“Oh,” Liz said, embarrassed. “Let’s just get out of here.” She was exhausted from working so many hours and there was a twinge of irritation in her voice.

“Are you okay?” Maria looked at her best friend with concern.

“I’m fine. I’ll tell you about it when we get there,” Liz said out of breath.

“All I’m saying is that the guys are going to be there and do you really want to meet them in scrubs?” Maria tried to say it without putting her down.

“I didn’t ask to be set up, you know. I was doing just fine on my own, and if they don’t like they way I look then it is just too bad for them.” Liz gave her an evil glare and then smiled. She knew Maria was only trying to help.

“Ouch. Look, you really need to get out more. Working around stiffs all day isn’t exactly a glamorous job and you definitely aren’t going to meet people that way,” Maria said sternly.

“I know you’re only trying to help, but I don’t know if I’m ready to start dating someone else yet.” She looked out the window.

“Please tell me this isn’t about Max Evans. He’s been gone out of our lives. You were the one who said we should stay in Roswell. I lost someone I truly loved to, you know, or did you forget?” Maria’s tone softened.

“I’m sorry, Maria. I am. But you wouldn’t go without me. I didn’t force you to stay.” She didn’t want to hurt Maria but this was always a touchy subject.

“Look, we’re here. Let’s just forget this conversation even happened.” Maria looked at Liz.

“Agreed.” Liz smiled.

The girls entered a pool hall named Snoopy’s. The owner was a mid 70’s male with a beer belly the size of Texas. This was where Maria worked. She felt safe here even though the owner was a bit of a creep; he always tried to grab their behinds and he made them wear the skimpiest outfits. They almost looked like bikinis.

The bartender looked up when Maria walked by. “What will you two lovely ladies be having tonight?” he said with a loud tone.

“Oh, hey, Tom. Two light beers.” She looked around.

“Oh, hey, Ms. Parker. Like the new look. It’s you.” He smiled and set the two beers on the bar.

“Thanks,” she grumbled, grabbing the beer. It was obvious she didn’t want to be there.

“Bad day?” Tom smiled at Liz. She wasn’t looking thrilled to be out.

“Am I being that obvious?” Liz smiled, reaching for her beer.

“Your visitors are in the corner booth by the dart boards.” Tom smiled at Liz.

“Thanks.” She looked over her shoulder. “Wish me luck,” she said with a hint of sarcasm.

“Something tells me you won’t need it.” Tom smiled at her, letting her know that he was available to help her out if things didn’t work out.

Liz looked in the direction that the bartender pointed in. She saw two men with dark hair. Images of Max filled her mind. She tried to shake them but they wouldn’t budge.

She took a large sip of beer. “Maria, are you sure this is such a good idea?” Liz asked as she wiped her top lip with her finger.

“It will be fine. We will get drunk, have fun and possibly get lucky, if you know what I mean.” Maria nudged Liz in the side.

“That is so not going to happen.” She laughed with sarcasm in her voice.

“I wouldn’t rule it out completely until you see them up close.” Maria said, pulling Liz towards the two guys.

“Okay, I’m obviously not getting out of this, but when I say let’s go, we have to go.” Liz eyed Maria.

“Darin and Eric, this is the infamous Liz Parker. I apologize for her wardrobe. She sort of left work in a hurry.” Maria smiled at Liz, and the two sat down.

Darin was the good looking of the two. Liz smiled at Darin. Maria and Darin had been dating for the last year. Liz had only met Darin on only a few other occasions and those meetings were short. The guy Maria chose to set her up with was not her type. He had brown hair and similar features to Max, and she noticed that he had some feminine qualities to him.

But who was she to judge? Maybe Maria was right. He, at least, deserved a chance. Liz sat down next to Eric. He shook her hand and smiled. It was very awkward. Good thing it was a dark and smoky bar, and there was good music playing over the speakers; Sheryl Crow’s ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’ was blaring throughout the bar.

“So, Liz.” Eric paused not sure of what to say. “What’s your major?”

Not only was he dorky but Liz didn’t know anyone who used that old line anymore. “I’m majoring in Medical Research. Right now I am working in a pathology lab.” She glared at Maria and took another large sip of her beer.

“That sounds really interesting.” Eric smiled then kicked Maria under the table.

“Ouch!” Maria belted out “Why did you do that?” She threw popcorn at him.

“Okay.” Liz stood up rather abruptly. “You guys, I’m sorry. I really can not do this tonight. I have an early shift.” She stood up and tried to leave, but Maria was being difficult.

“Liz, you promised you would try.” Maria stood up and started to walk after her.

“I just need to get my book bag out of the car and then I’ll get a cab. I’m sorry Maria I just can’t.” She held her hand out for the keys.

“Here, but you’re really missing out. He’s a great guy.” Maria was ignoring the fact that Eric was gay. She couldn’t help but play match maker, even though she was failing miserably at that moment.

“I’m sure he will find a great guy one day who will meet his needs.” Liz smiled. “I’ll bring these right back.” She dangled the keys to the Jetta.

Maria was shocked at Liz’s statement. She realized she couldn’t push Liz over edge with this.

Liz made her way out to the car. She heard footsteps again. She thought maybe Maria was coming after her, but no such luck. There was nothing behind her. I’m really losing it, she thought.

She went to unlock the passenger door. As soon as she put the key in the door, she felt a hand grab her mouth. They pulled her into a dark spot in the parking lot. Liz tried to scream but the hand was too strong and the scream only sounded muffled.

“Liz, it’s okay,” the familiar voice said behind her. It was shaky and irritated, but she recognized it.

She didn’t want to look.

“It’s okay. You can turn around. I’m not going to hurt you.”

She slowly turned to look. She expected or she hoped that it was Max, but it was the person she least expected to see. “Michael,” she said in a mundane tone. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”

“Sorry, but I couldn’t risk anyone seeing me,” he said with apologetic tone.

“I don’t understand, I thought…” she was interrupted.

“You would never see me again.” He rehearsed this moment in his head, prior to their meeting.

“Well, yeah, it was pretty much done that way on purpose. Max said we would be better off if we stayed in Roswell,” she said with resentment.

“That’s why I’m here. I need to tell you that something happened,” Michael said with sorrow and annoyance in his voice.

“Max - he isn’t…” The words couldn’t form; she couldn’t even speak them.

“No, it’s nothing like that. I promise.” Michael almost sounded disappointed that it wasn’t true.

“Then what it is it? I don’t need this suspense. I have enough in my life already,” she said with an angry tone in her voice.

Liz’s desperation was definitely obvious to him. “This was a mistake. I shouldn’t have bothered you.”

“No, Michael. I’m sorry. It’s not you. It has nothing to do with you.” She pleaded with him. She was desperate to hear about Max.

“Someone is coming.” He ducked into the darkness “You never saw me.”

“Liz, what is taking so long? If you wanted to scare me, it’s working,” Maria said with a scolding tone. “What are you doing out here?” She looked around.

“Nothing. I just needed some time to think. I’ll just get my bag and then I’ll get a cab.” She walked towards the car and grabbed her book bag. “Here are your keys. Go have a good time with Darin. Forget about me.” Liz tried to sound convincing.

“Nice try.” Maria was looking around.

Michael’s heart pounded a million miles a minute. Please don’t let her sense me. Please. He took a deep breath in and hoped that Liz could sway her attention towards something else.

“I swear I heard you talking to someone, but I’ll leave.” Maria hugged Liz.

Michael’s pulse started to go back to normal. He exhaled with relief. He knew that Liz was the best person to contact.

“I promise I’ll call you when I get home,” Liz said with relief.

Maria walked back towards the bar.

Michael stepped back into the lighted area of the parking lot. “Thanks,” he said with relief. “You can’t tell her I’m here.” There was panic in his voice.

“I won’t. Don’t worry,” Liz reassured him.

“I have a car. Do you need a ride?” He pointed to a green car in the distance. He was so sure that Maria would forget something and come running back out to the parking lot and catch them standing there. Thankfully it didn’t happen.

“Yeah, sure. Why not?” It was better then taking a cab. Why me? she thought to herself.

“It will be easier for us to talk in the car.” They walked in silence. Liz was confused about why he didn’t want Maria to know he was in town.

They walked towards an old Ford Escort. It was at least two years old. The forest green paint was starting to peel from sitting in the sun.

They both got in the car and shut the doors. Michael started the car. It took a couple of times before the engine would turn over.

It looked like he had been living in his car. She noticed maps of California, and Michigan. Tabasco bottles were laying on the ground in front of her seat. Her foot accidentally kicked it out of place.

“So where to?” He was unfamiliar with his surroundings, although he knew where she lived because he had been following her since his arrival one day ago.

He was taking his chances by going to see Liz. He had no other choice. He was worried about the people they left behind in Roswell. Liz left on semi good terms with her family. Maria followed Liz to Harvard. She got in with a scholarship. She was failing her classes and was planning on dropping out. Michael was surprised and shocked that she even got into one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

“Head back towards campus. Maria and I share an apartment there.” She smiled. She pointed to the street in front of the bar.

He played along with her directions even though he already knew where they were going.

His instincts had been right. Max had said that Mr. Evans told him that Liz was going to Harvard. Other than that, he didn’t know anything. He went on a hunch and he found them.

<center>Chapter Two</center>

Michael and Liz sat in silence for most of the ride to her apartment. She couldn’t stand the silence. “So what was it that you were going to tell me back there?”

“Oh yeah, Max.” The sound of sorrow and annoyance filled his voice.

“Why do you sound like that when you say his name? It’s the sound of death in your voice that really urks me,” she said bluntly.

“Sorry, it is just hard to talk about Max without sounding that way.” He looked in her direction, then glanced back to the road in front of him. So this was Harvard. He wasn’t impressed. Rich people," he muttered to himself.

“Is that why you came here without him? And where is Isabel? Is she okay?”

“Isabel is still in hiding. When I tell you what Max did you will understand why.” Michael pulled the car into the apartment complex. He searched the parking lot for anything suspicious, such as an unmarked car with some alien hungry FBI agent sitting inside it.

“Please, just tell me what is wrong.” Liz noticed that he knew where the apartment was. “How did you know where we live?”

“We have to go back,” Michael said, unsure if that was how he wanted to start his conversation. He ignored her question on purpose. He was still scanning the area for any signs of the FBI or Max.

“You don’t mean Roswell, do you?” Liz asked with fear in her voice. “That life is behind me now. I’m not on good terms with anyone in that town, especially my own family.”

“I’m sorry, but if we don’t go back your family could be in danger. We have to go protect them,” Michael said with urgency in his voice. He was shocked that she wasn’t on good terms with her family. He didn’t understand that comment. Maybe she would elaborate on it later.

“Then that means I have to tell Maria you’re here.” They were sitting in the parking lot in front of Liz’s apartment. There was no way she was lying to her best friend. If Liz’s family was in trouble, so was Maria’s mother.

“We will, but I need to tell you about Max without Maria being involved.” He couldn’t handle all the questions Maria would ask about where had he been and why he contacted Liz and not her. Liz was always better under pressure. Maria would just have a panic attack and he didn’t know how to react in that situation.

“Fine. Let’s go upstairs.” Liz was not in the mood to fight him.

Michael and Liz walked towards the upscale apartment unit. Michael made sure they weren’t being followed. He let Liz walk in front of him. He couldn’t risk her being injured. He barely escaped his last hideout; the FBI had been hot on his trail but somehow he managed to break free from them. He switched cars in Michigan, and used his powers to change the license plate numbers. He was getting better at controlling his powers. They were getting stronger.

<center>~*~</center>

Maria sat in the booth with Darin. He stared at her with concern. He was worried about his girlfriend. Darin and Maria had been going out for the past year. She met him at some singles party. He helped her get over Michael to the best of his ability. He knew about her past to some extent although she never told him that Michael was an alien.

“What is it? You’re going to burn a whole in that beer bottle.” Maria wasn’t acting like her usual bubbly self.

“I’m sorry. I’m just worried about Liz, and did I apologize for what happened earlier because if I didn’t I’m sorry,” she rambled incoherently.

“That would make that the third time you have apologized. Eric is a strong person he will get over it,” Darin reassured her.

“I know it’s just that she handled it so poorly. I thought I could make her forget, you know?” She smiled at the gorgeous brunette. He smiled back.

“You can’t make people forget pain. Pain stays with you for a long time. You can hide from it. You can even try and drink it away, but it always manages to find its way back to you.” He wrapped his arm around her. “I have to go to the restroom.” He smiled gave her a quick kiss then proceeded to stand up.

“Sure no problem.” Maria smiled.

After Darin stood up and disappeared into the restroom, Maria realized that his jacket had fallen on the ground. She went to pick it up and something fell out of his pocket. It looked like his wallet. Maria was nosey. She couldn’t help it. She needed to look. Maybe he kept a picture of her inside the wallet.

When she opened it up, she got the biggest surprise of her life. Darin was a FBI agent. How could he lie to her like that? He was dating her to get information about Michael. That had to be it.

Maria decided to keep quiet about knowing his secret. She still couldn’t believe that he had lied to her all this time. Their relationship seemed to be going so well. She slipped the wallet back in his jacket pocket. She couldn’t let him know that she knew. Maria was a horrible liar.

“Everything alright?” Darin smiled again. He noticed that his jacket had been moved. He also noticed the look on her face. She knew his dreaded secret.

Maria cleared her throat. “Yeah, everything is great. How about a game of darts?” 'He knows I’m lying. I can see it in his eyes,' she thought to herself.

“Sounds good to me. This time I start.” He walked towards the bar to get the darts. He pulled the cell phone out of his pocket and hit a button and started to talk to someone. “My cover has been blown,” he said with an angry tone. He stopped before reaching the bar. “Keep your distance. They can’t know were on to them.” He hung the phone up.

<center>~*~</center>

Liz offered Michael something to drink. He smiled and thanked her. He had been on the road for the last week, maybe longer. He had to get as far away from Max as he could.

He wasn’t sure how Liz would take the news that Max was a traitor and that all this time he was working against them, his own family and friends.

Isabel feared for her life but she didn’t want to risk being caught, so she stayed in her cozy little life somewhere in Nevada.

Liz handed Michael an ice cold glass of Pepsi. “Thanks. Nice place.” It was a flat, about the only thing they could afford.

“Its cozy. Maria is hardly here. She works the night shift, and when she isn’t she is out with her boyfriend.” Liz flinched as the words came out.

“It's okay. I already knew about him. I’ve been here a day and I saw her being dropped off this morning. I’m not sure we should include her in this,” Michael said with a jealous tone.

“You mean in this conversation?” Liz questioned his motives. “You still haven’t told me what happened to Max, and why you’re acting so weird.” Liz wanted to get to the point already.

“I do owe you an explanation, don’t I? Okay. Well, everything was going fine until Max got this weird phone call from Mr. Evans. He told Max that he had to go back to Roswell. His mother had been seriously injured in a car accident. When he got there he was informed that he was too late and that his mother was dead. Anyway he came back to where we were hiding out and said that the accident was similar to the one that killed Alex, and when he and his father went to identify the body there was a silver handprint on her. So we assumed that it was the work of another alien.” He stopped to take a sip of his drink. Liz was looking at him with sadness. “Do you want me to continue?”

“Yes, go on. I need to know what happened.” She was definitely intrigued. She was also sad for Isabel. “Something bugs me. How did Mr. Evans know how to reach Max?” Liz questioned.

“I’m getting to that,” he said in a promising tone. “When Max returned he seemed different. He had to break the news to Isabel, who by the way was furious with Max for not letting her attend her own mothers funeral. Isabel and I thought he was just reacting to their mothers death, but his behavior was just not his. I questioned Max on the details. I even asked him how his father knew how to reach us. Then he told me his father had hired a private investigator. Apparently Max didn’t change credit cards and that’s how they were tracking our movements.

"I of course didn’t buy it. Max was always more careful than that. He usually planned things. He made sure every 't' was crossed and every 'i' was dotted. This is when chaos hit our comfy cozy home, Isabel lashed out at Max and said she wanted to leave. She wanted to go see how her father was doing; he had to be a wreck.

"Max said that she couldn’t go back. He had put them all in danger by going back. They argued for a week. Max finally let her go. He told me to set up a place for Isabel to live. He didn’t want to know any of the details. It was better if he didn’t know. That made Isabel and I worried not only for our own safety but for everyone else’s. Then I began to worry that he might try and contact you or Maria.”

He started to talk again, “It was almost like Max had an evil twin, living inside him. Isabel said it was his alien side coming through, that he was finally losing the fight to stay human.” He noticed Liz looking at him with concern.

“Were you at the hospital earlier?” she asked with worry in her voice.

“No. Why? Did something happen?” he questioned, snapping at her without realizing it.

“I could have sworn that someone was following me. It scared me.” She looked directly into his eyes. He looked away.

“It wasn’t me,” he insisted

“You don’t think it could have been Max do you?” she said filled with fear.

“No, I don’t think he would be stupid enough to come around you, especially if he knew I was coming to check on Maria,” Michael tried to reassure her.

“We have a special connection Michael. Ever since he healed me its like we were bonded together somehow. I can’t explain it. It defies all laws of science,” she rambled.

Michael just looked at her.

“Sorry it is late.” Liz apologized.

“You're rambling about science. You haven’t done that since sophomore year.” He smiled.

Then Liz’s phone rang. “It’s probably Maria. She usually calls when she isn’t going to be home.”

“Hello.” Liz smiled at Michael letting him know her suspicions were right.

“Hey, just wanted to check in. I wont be home tonight. I’m staying at Darin’s. And remind me to tell you something when I get home, you are going to freak,” Maria rambled. She was obviously drunk.

“It's okay, Maria. I know the drill. What time do you think you will be home tomorrow?” Liz questioned.

“It's Friday right. Well, I wouldn’t count on seeing me until Sunday night.”

“Uh, Maria, there is something we need to talk about too. So if your not going to be home, maybe we can meet for lunch.” Liz looked at Michael. He was waving his hand at her, to not say anything about him being there.

“Sounds good to me, Chica. Love ya. Gotta go. This man is so out of control when he is drunk.” Maria laughed into the phone.

“Bye Maria and don’t drive.” She hung up.

“Lunch? How are you going to have lunch with her when were leaving bright and early tomorrow?” he asked, snapping at her. He didn’t realize he was doing it. He hadn’t slept good in weeks.

“How do you expect me to just leave like that? I have a life here. I have a job. I’ve worked really hard the last year and I’m not blowing my chances at Harvard.” She couldn’t believe that those words came out of her mouth.

<“I’m sorry, but we have no other choice.” Michael looked away.>

Chapter Three

Max Evans was furious with Michael and Isabel, what was so wrong with his behavior his mother was killed and they think he was the one who killed her. “Damn them” he said out loud, how could they question him, he was the king wasn’t he. Max was driving down a desert road in Nevada he knew exactly where Isabel was, even though he specifically told Michael not to tell him. The Aliens have this connection that ties them together, whether or not they want it right now. Max was determined to prove he was innocent of the crime he was charged with. He checked his rearview mirror, nobody was following behind his black Ford F150. This whole entire situation had made them all paranoid, Max felt like he was driving for days, it was Saturday morning he had been on the road for only a couple of hours.
He turned the radio up as loud as it could go, he was blaring the counting crows disc, that Isabel bought him for Christmas last year. On the seat next to him was the book that Tess had so desperately wanted him to learn, why did she have to walk into that building then blow it up, she would believe him in this desperate time. He was alone and he hated to be alone. In fact he hated Michael and Isabel, A part of him still wondered if Isabel still hated him for not letting her go to their mothers funeral, he somehow knew the answer to that. His mind was being pulled in a million different directions, his feelings didn’t make sense.

Michael ended up sleeping over at Liz’s apartment, she was freaked out by everything that had taken place within the last day. He woke up with a kink in his neck, that’s what he got for sleeping on a futon. He stood up and looked around the flat/studio apartment, he wanted to see Maria’s area he needed to be sure that she was over him. He didn’t want to drag her into this again, he proceeded to her side of the apartment, and the decorations were definitely hers. Astrology calendars were hanging up on the wall next to her bed she even painted the corner midnight blue and then added moons and stars painted in yellow. Michael was impressed, then jealousy consumed him he saw a picture of Maria with her boyfriend. He picked the picture frame up and looked closely at her features, then put it back in its place. She seemed to be happy and he was glad for her but a tiny part of him still missed her.

“Michael” Liz was awake, for a split second she thought she imagined everything that happened last night.

“Yeah I’m here.” He peered out from behind the man made wall.

Liz smiled “Find anything interesting?”

“Nope nothing at all.” He smiled, “How about some breakfast, I’m not a bad cook.” He walked towards the tiny kitchen.

“Sounds good to me.” Liz smiled she liked having company other than Maria. “I’m just going to wash up help yourself”

January 2, 2005

When you least expect change it happens, it devours whatever normal routine you had before. I never expected Michael Guerin to come back into my life, he said that we had to go back to Roswell I’m not sure as to why, but I’m guessing he believes that someone I love is in danger, and for that I will always be in debt to him. I’m not quite sure how I’m supposed to feel about all of this but in the light of it all I know my feelings for Michael Guerin are slowly changing.

“Liz the eggs are ready?” Michael yelled across the room.

“I’ll be there in a second.” She yelled back, she closed her journal and got dressed then headed towards the kitchen. Or what she considered to be the kitchen, all it consisted of was a table for two and the essentials a kitchen had.

“Everything Ok.?” He asked as he shoveled the eggs on to her plate.

“Everything is just fine for the moment.” She joined him at the table the breakfast was amazing it smelled heavnly, she hadn’t had a breakfast like this since Roswell.

“I’m thinking we should head for Roswell later this afternoon, it will take a couple of days to get there if we drive straight through.” He sat down, and started to eat he poured tobasco sauce all over his food, then put it in his orange juice.”

Liz made a face at him, then took a bite of her eggs. “Wow you are good.”

“Thanks” he smiled and a moment had actually passed by without thoughts of the FBI or even his current nightmare situation with Max he tried to avoid direct eye contact with her but it wasn’t working out to well.

“Are you sure we shouldn’t let Maria know, she is going to worry about us she will want to know why I am going home so suddenly.” Liz noticed his eye movements.

“Your smart you will think of something, trust me its better if she isn’t involved in this I have my reasons Liz.” He said abruptly.

“Ok but it will have to be a good reason otherwise she will know that I am lying to her.” Liz sipped on her orange juice.

Max was almost to his destination, he had made good timing, driving always helped him calm down. He pulled on to Thomas street, there were only a couple of houses on the block they looked expensive how exactly could Isabel afford this. That wasn’t important, what was important was convincing his sister that he was innocent, he could never hurt their mother. 920 Thomas St. this was it he pulled into the driveway. He opened the door of his truck and then slowly proceeded to go to the front door. He was thinking of things to say to her he wanted to apologize for not letting her grieve for the loss of their mother. He was finally at the front door. He knocked a couple of times then waited patiently.

The door opened and Isabel stood their with a look of shock, he could swear that a smile was going to form, but that could have been more of his imagination. Isabel walked away from the front door leaving it open, for him to enter. She was picking up clutter that had been laying around, her place was a mess it looked as though she had been keeping to herself, which was good because they didn’t need any attachments right now.

“So dear brother, how did you find me?” She was in no mood to deal with him.

“Isabel your not the only one who has a connection, do I really need to explain how.” He looked at her with pleading eyes.

She ignored his sad eyes, “So what do you want exactly, did you come all this way to tell me I couldn’t have a life of my own, that I have to live with a killer.” She regretted those words.

“I’m not a killer Iz you know that.” He hoped she knew that.

“Isn’t that what all guilty people say, they try to sway others into believing in their innocence. I’m not buying it Max like you said we have a connection, and did you forget that I can dream walk I can see the truth even if people don’t want me to see it.” She hissed at him.

“What exactly did you see?” He was getting angrier at her with every passing minute, “because dreams are most of the time misleading.”

“You know what I saw, and to be honest with you I don’t feel like reliving it again.” She sat down on the couch. It was high maintenance like everything in the house was.

“I’m sorry I didn’t let you see Mom before they buried her, I’m sorry that you couldn’t come back with me.” He said trying to hold the tears back. “I have a duty to protect you and Michael, don’t you think this is hard for me too.” Tears started to form.

“I don’t care what is hard for you right now Max, you took away my right to feel emotion, you took away my right to.” She stopped and started to cry.

“I don’t care what is hard for you right now Max, you took away my right to feel emotion, you took away my right to.” She stopped and started to cry.

Max walked over to her he hesitated before sitting next to her, when he did Isabel looked over at him. “Why” she choked. “Why did you take her from me?”

He looked at his sister and without saying anything he hugged her, he held her tightly. “I’m sorry, she was taken from you but I’m not the guilty one, give me a chance to prove it.” He held her as she mourned for the loss of their mother.

“I’m not sure I-I can” the words struggled to form.

“It’s o.k. Iz I understand that you need time. I need you to help me find Michael so we can all sit down and talk about this.” She pulled away from him.

“Help you find Michael, that’s not going to happen any time soon It will take a long time for me to forgive you.”

“I’m telling you I didn’t do it, Why won’t you believe me?” his tone getting louder. He stood up with force knocking over the picture frame on the coffee table.

“Because I saw you do it, I saw you kill our mother when I dream walked you.” She yelled back.

It wasn’t me damn it, Isabel don’t you see someone is messing with us?” He tried to convince her.

She stared at him, she so desperately wanted her brother back she was so alone. Michael told her to be careful with Max, he would try to sway her, make her think he was innocent. Isabel noticed that Max had picked up the picture he knocked over, it was their family when they were happy and when nobody knew who they were. She grabbed the picture from him.

“I’m sorry I was told not to trust you.” She grabbed the picture from him.

“Who are you really going to believe, some failure whose main goal in life is to prove that I’m not fit to be the King.” He glared at her, she felt his hate.

“Max this is not about being aliens, don’t you get that?” she yelled back at him. “Its about finding our mothers killer.” She was not sure what she was saying, at this point anger and resentment took over.

“I knew you didn’t believe it was me, I knew it.” He went to hug her, but she stepped back and put her hand up to protect herself.
“Stay back Max don’t make me do it” tears filled her already swollen eyes, “I’m sorry I know what I saw, I know what I felt, if you would have seen the look in our mothers eyes you would know how much pain she was in and how scared she was.” She paused “It was like watching a horror movie only I was there and I could feel her pain.” She screamed at him,
“Now get out” she yelled again.

There was obviously no talking to her in this condition she was to grieve stricken, to be dealt with. He pulled the syringe out of his leather jacket pocket and held it behind his back. “Isabel” Isabel” he took steps towards her slowly, “I know you won’t hurt me, you don’t have it in you.” He stepped closer.

“Max w-what are you doi? Before she could finish she felt a sharp pinch and then she blacked out. Max leaned over her, “You gave me no other choice. You could have just went along with me, we could have done this the easy way.” He said to his sleeping sister, she laid lifeless on the hard tile floor.

Chapter Four

Maria awoke to an empty bed, she sighed and then sat up “Darin?” she called out expecting an answer. But she didn’t get one right away, she looked around the room and saw pictures of them from various dates they had been on. She walked over to a date that stuck out in her mind, the night they met, she was sober she hadn’t had a drink yet, and this handsome mysterious man walks over to her, they talked through the night and were instantly taken with each other.

“Darin?” Maria called out again, still no answer she could hear a faint voice in a distant room. Maria got up to investigate.

She got closer to the room where the voice was, it was Darin as she suspected it would be, he was on the phone with somebody having a heated discussion. This could get ugly she thought to herself, she stood by the door it was cracked open just slightly enough for her to hear them.

“I told you my covers been blown I want off this case” he paused while waiting for the other person to respond. “No that isn’t good enough, I need to be removed from the case, better yet I want off the case, I’m to involved personally.” He argued, but apparently the voice on the other end wasn’t going to let him off the case. He hung up the phone slamming it down on the reciever.

Maria tried to back slowly away from the door, but the floor underneath her made a loud creaking sound. Darin turned around she was caught, “Maria its ok you can come in” he said with a glint of annoyance under his breath.

“I’m sorry for eavesdropping on you” she gave him a pathetic apology look.

“I was going to tell you tonight over dinner, I should have never let it go on this long.” He met her eyes trying to search them for an answer.

“So why is the FBI tracking two humans” she said rather bluntly.

“We were trying to get leads on something we heard in Roswell, he didn’t want to tell her what they were really after.” He looked at the floor.

“So you obviously know something about my friends, you just don’t want to tell me what that is?” she said with resentment.

“Maria its classified, I would tell you but I can’t until I’m let go from my position.”

“And what exactly is the position you are in?” she was afraid to hear the answer.

“I’m in an elite unit of the FBI have you seen the t.v. show the x-files, well I investigate similar theories.” He hoped she was buying this.

Maria felt her heart drop into her stomach, he meant the special unit, it was back and someone else’s head had popped on to agent pierces dead body, and started that unit up and running all over again. She wished she had never found his wallet, was her Brad Pitt look a like, an alien killer? She wanted to run but she couldn’t force herself to move she was in shock, she was afraid for her life once again.

She would play along with him, just to get information, she had to find Max and tell him what was going on. She had to be sneaky about it, she didn’t want to endanger anyone.

*~*

“Are you ready?” Michael said with impatience in his voice, he had been waiting for Liz to finish packing.

“Yeah I’ll be ready in just a minute.’ Liz was writing Maria a note, explaining things.

Maria:
I just wanted to tell you not to panic, everything is ok, I had to go home for a family emergency. If you need me please call my cell phone it will be on 24/7 I’ve contacted work and they know that I’m leaving rent is paid for until the end of the month, so you should be ok. Please don’t worry I’m fine, I love you don’t forget that.

Love Liz

Liz placed the letter into an envelope, then slipped it into her pants pocket she had to put it somewhere Maria would find it. She grabbed her suitcase and headed towards the family room, Michael looked at her curiously, he looked her up and down she was wearing jeans, a black baby t-shirt and clogs, her long brown hair fell across her shoulders.

“Can you take this to the car?” she interrupted his hidden drooling session.

“Sure why not, meet me downstairs.” He grabbed the suitcase from her and left the apartment.

She walked over to Maria’s bed, and put the envelope on her pillow, “Please let her see this.” She said out loud. She took one last look around her apartment, and headed downstairs. Michael had the car running and he was ready to go.

Liz got in he was blaring a tape that sounded all to familiar to her, she shook her head and shut the door. “Your not planning on listening to that for 34 hrs are you?”

“What if I am?”

“Then I am walking, my ears can’t handle all that Metallica” she said with sarcasm.

“Fine, one more song and then you can have the radio.” He shot her a look.

“What exactly are we going to do when we get there?” she asked with curiosity.

“Gee I don’t know throw everyone into a panic and tell them that aliens are amongst them and they are all in danger.” He said with that attitude he had back in Roswell.

“Michael” She gave him the I’m serious look.

“We will figure something out,” He lied he had no idea.

“Well if you don’t mind I need coffee would you stop at the starbucks on the corner before we leave town?” she knew she was risking it.

“Sure, Whatever.” He rolled his eyes.

*~*

Maria decided to call Mr. Evans, while Darin was in the shower. Maybe he Mr. Evan’s had a number where she could reach Max. It was a long shot, but somebody had to know where he was. She slowly punched the numbers on her cell phone, the phone rang about 5 times and then he finally answered, he sounded terrible.

“Hi Mr. Evans, this is Maria De Luca” she was nervous

“Hi Maria” he was hoping it was Isabel, he hadn’t heard from her in a couple of weeks he was giving her money to live on, and she hadn’t checked in.

“Is everything alright?” Maria noticed the distance in his voice.

“Have you heard from my children?” he asked hopeful.

“Actually that is why I’m calling I was wondering if you had a number that I could reach Max at?”

“I only have the last known address and phone number, I think my son had the number changed after his mothers funeral.” Mr. Evans sounded even more distant.

“I’m sorry to hear about your wife, I didn’t know anything had happened to her.” Maria felt stupid, this was interesting to hear though.

“I’m surprised Michael hasn’t told you?”

“Michael” she said surprised, “Why would Michael tell me anything he is with Max isn’t he?” she was starting to worry now.

“He said he was going to see if you were alright, you haven’t seen him?”

“NO!!” Maria panicked. “I’ll take the number you have, and Mr. Evans I’m sorry for you loss.” She was infuriated, first Darin was lying to her and now Michael was using her as a ploy for something. Could things get any worse.

Chapter Five

Isabel could hear the faint sound of a ringing, was it a phone? was it her phone? What the hell was happening to her? Her eyes fluttered open, she felt something lay across her body, it was a seatbelt. Then it all came flooding back to her, the sound she heard was a cell phone ringing. She heard Max answer it.

“Dad I told you to stop calling me?” he said in voice that wasn’t his.

“Oh Sorry Maria, how did you get this number?” he glanced over at Isabel to see if she was still out from the drug.

How could Max kill his own mother, the mother that had helped us, if it weren’t for her we would have ended up like Michael or worse, how could he drug me. She hoped Maria didn’t know anything, but there had to be a good reason for her calling, she had to have gone through a lot of trouble just to get that number. Isabel laid still pretending to be sleeping, she needed to get what ever information she could.

“I called your father” she rambled incoherently.

“Damm” he tried to mumble.

“What?” Maria asked nervously.

“Nothing” he tried to sound like his old self.

“Something is wrong I can tell by the sound of your voice” he said trying to sound empathetic.

“Well, when I talked to your dad he said that Michael was coming here to see me and I haven’t seen him yet, do you know anything about this?” Maria rambled.

“Where is here?”

“Boston, Harvard but you would know this since you went home to your mother’s funeral wouldn’t you?” she was mad.

“I wasn’t there for a long time and I didn’t talk to many people, with the horrible situation that was going on.” He was obviously lying to her.

“Uh-huh well Michael hasn’t been here so you don’t have to worry.” Maria hung up the phone she didn’t like the way he sounded she could pick up on his tone.

“Damn” Max threw the cell phone to the back seat of the truck, he turned the radio on really loud. If Michael isn’t going to see Maria then where was he going, just then the answer had popped into his little mind, he was going to see Liz it was all making sense now, but why would he avoid Maria? There had to be a good reason. He knows something and I’m going to find out what that something is.

Isabel tried putting her hand to the buckle on the seatbelt, but she was to weak. Max looked over at her, “Nice try.” He grinned at her, “It won’t work the drug has a paralyzing effect that last over 12 hours so you won’t be able to move you can talk you just can’t move.” He spouted, he sounded crazy to her. “Max why are you doing this?” she demanded to know.

*~*

Liz had fallen asleep they had been driving for a little over 12 hours, she was having strange dreams of Isabel, then a sudden flash of Mrs. Evans car accident flickered into her mind. She woke up screaming, Michael veered off the road nearly running into a light pole.

“What?” he said to her in a panic, “Your not hurt are you?”

Liz pulled herself together, she looked at him she was trying not to laugh because the look on his face was priceless. “Michael I’m fine, although I should ask you how you are doing?” she kept her giggling in her mind.

“I’m fine” he said not thrilled that she was trying not to laugh at him.

“You screamed like someone was murdering you.” He protested

“I had a nightmare” she paused trying to think of a way to tell him exactly what was in her dream.

“Anything alien related”

“Aren’t they always” Liz hesitated “I think something is wrong with Isabel” she stared at him.

“Her mother just died yeah she’s upset” somehow he knew she meant a different kind of trouble.

“I think she’s hurt or she’s been taken or something happened to her” she rambled not making sense.

Michael just stared at her in disbelief, he had nothing to say to that.

“Michael I am being serious I think someone has her” She gave him a sad look.

“I know”

He knew exactly who had her, “Damn it Max found her.” He slammed his fists on the steering wheel, making the car shake. His body was hunched over the steering wheel, how was he going to get Isabel back? Maybe he shouldn’t have left Maria alone. This was not turning out good at all, Max has lost his mind and now he has Isabel. Maybe Isabel was trying to dream walk somebody and give them there location, maybe he didn’t have to worry about Maria because Max was to worried about Isabel at the moment.

“Michael” Liz put her hand on his back, she tried to calm him down. He flinched when she touched him.

“Sorry did I hurt you?” she said with innocence.

“No I’m fine” he snapped. “Call Maria and see if she’s OK” he demanded.

Michael didn’t want to admit that when Liz touched him, his heart started pounding he couldn’t look at her straight in the face, and now was not the time to have sorted fantasies about Liz Parker, Guerin get your self together. You need a plan to get Isabel back, and keep Liz safe from that lunatic. He sighed out loud.

“I couldn’t get through her line was busy” Liz said feeling hopeless.

“Great” he said disappointed.

“I’ll try again” she said with reassurance, she thought it was sweet that he was still worried.

“Quit looking at me like that” he said facing the driver side window.

“Like what?” she snapped back.

“Oh good its ringing” she didn’t give him a chance to finish.

*~*

Maria had Darin drop her off at her car, she left it in the parking lot of the bar Friday night. She needed to go home and think, it would be lonely without Darin she tried calling home and Liz didn’t answer. Where could Liz be? Work? No it was Saturday night she only used that “I have an early shift line”, when she needed to get out of a situation she didn’t want to be in.

Maria searched her brain for all logical reasons, she finally arrived to her apartment. She ran upstairs quickly, she opened the door and the apartment was empty just as she suspected it would be. As Maria went through the apartment horrible thoughts went through her mind, she smacked them all away. Liz was no where to be found, she went to the kitchen and got a can of cola out of the refrigerator, she then noticed dirty dishes in the sink, two plates, two drinking glasses, scrambled egg residue, and tobasco bottles.

One thought came to her mind, Michael was here. She was infuriated, she didn’t know what to do, she slammed her cola can on the counter, then went into her sleeping area. She went to reach in one of her dresser drawers and then she noticed something on her pillow. A letter with an envelope, Maria’s name was on it. She opened it, she didn’t believe what Liz had written in the letter. She crumpled it up and threw it across the room. “Family emergency my ass” she said out loud to herself. She got the suitcase from underneath her bed and started to pack. She was going to call Max and let him know what she found out, she reached in her purse but she couldn’t find her cell phone, she must have left it at Darin’s.

“Guess I’ll have to stop by Darin’s on my way to Roswell.” She said out loud to herself. She finished packing, called Tom to let him know she would be gone for awhile, and asked him to check on the place for her, she then called the landlord and paid another months rent. She locked up and headed to the car, she needed her cell phone.

Chapter Six

“She’s not answering” Liz said with frustration.

“I’m not liking this” Michael spouted.

“I think were both extremely exhausted from the drive maybe we should stop for the night, whatever is going on will just have to wait until the morning.” Liz said trying to make him realize that he needed to sleep.

Michael just looked at her “Normally, I would tell you no and that we would keep driving, but I’m hungry and tired and we need to keep trying to get a hold of Maria so we will find a hotel and stop for the night but don’t get to comfortable.”

“Thank you” she nodded in agreement

Michael started the car and they were off to find a hotel, or would it be motel since the city they were in didn’t look like it had five star hotels. Two different rooms, two different beds he thought to himself, and I can get a decent nights sleep for once. He looked over at Liz, she was looking at him again.

“What?” he demanded

“Nevermind” she looked out her window

“Come on Parker, I know you have something on your mind so spill it now”

“It’s just that, well I haven’t seen you this way in well awhile so filled with concern.” That came out wrong she didn’t know what to say to him, she just wanted conversation.

“Would you rather me be uncaring?” he spouted he just looked at her.

“NO like I said forget it, look there’s a diner let’s stop there.” She changed the subject quickly.

Michael shook his head and pulled into the diner.

*~*

“The Ice queen speaks,” he said with sarcasm.

“I would slap you but I can’t move, just love the drug you gave me” she glared back at him. It was hard to keep her lips moving the drug was really powerful she was lucky to be talking, she shouldn’t waste it with sarcasm and hate; she needed to find out what had happened to her mother, and now her brother he was crazy he had never been this crazy, she was going to try and dream walk him tonight if he actually slept, then she would try and dream walk Michael to let her know she was in trouble.

“Now Iz you know I wouldn’t hurt you on purpose” He grinned like he had just smoked crack.

“Max you now have my full attention, whatever is going on you have to tell me” she tried to move her eyeballs so they would face his direction.

“You wouldn’t listen to me before, so I had to take drastic measures.” He said taunting her

“I promise I’ll listen, its not like I have a choice in the matter.” She protested his taunting

“By the way I love what you’ve done with your hair, short look is in so I hear” he rambled off the subject

“Max” she said with her lips pierced together, “Please once this drug wears off I can’t say that I will be so willing to listen.” She pleaded with him.

“Alright stop pestering me” he glared back at her, “You are quite pitiful aren’t you?”

He was obviously taking pleasure in this situation, what could have made him this way. Tess was dead, naseado was dead, who else could it possibly be?

“You know when I first arrived in Roswell to see the body, I was mortified I hadn’t seen anything that bad since I tried to heal Alex in that van. I was to late I couldn’t even save my own Mother, then I started to think of Tess the silver hand print on the body was my first clue, could she be responsible? We saw her walk into that building then blow it up, all for her son’s safety I mean the son we had together.”

This was getting her absolutely no where this is everything she already knew unless his answer was in there somewhere. She decided to keep listening to him, maybe he would slip up or eventually break.

“So tell me Izzy, dear sweet sister of mine, how do you think Michael found out what do you think gave him the idea that I was the one who killed our Mother, she was our surrogate she raised us as if we were her own flesh and blood, do you think I would really hurt her, you and Michael made me crazy you know that don’t you?” he turned to look at her almost driving the truck off the road.

Isabel just turned her eyeballs towards him, “Max your not making sense”

“Of course I’m not I’m crazy aren’t you listening to me?” he said with anger.

*~*

Maria drove breaking ever major driving law in Cambridge, MA it was kind of hard to drive the speed limit it was 25 mph hour almost everywhere. Finally she arrived to Darin’s building, she parked and got out of the car barely slamming the door shut. She ran up to the his building, she waited impatiently for the security guard to come to the door.

“Ms. De Luca” he nodded

“Yeah hi” she ran past him and took the stairs to the second floor.

She knocked on the door like the building was on fire, he wasn’t answering. He had to be home she needed her phone. She picked the mat up in front of the door and found the spare key. Thank God it was there she couldn’t take anymore misgivings. She could barely get the key in the door, her hands were shaking.

Great now where could he have gone? His apartment was empty. She started to frantically look for her phone. She was hearing beeps like it usually made when there were messages left. She followed the sound. She ran to the bedroom, and it was lying on the end of the bed where she left it. She heard the shower going he must be taking a shower. She left without saying anything to him, she was in a hurry and didn’t have time for long drawn out explanations.

34 Hours to Roswell, that was going to be one hell of a drive. Michael and Liz were going to have some serious explaining to do. She wasn’t mad because they were together she was mad because she was left out, lied to and possibly put in danger. Her life had crumbled in front of her in a matter of seconds.

She looked at her caller ID and noticed that Liz had been trying to call her, like about 30 times since she left her phone at his apartment, she left before he noticed she was there.

TBC.......

Chapter Seven

Michael and Liz ate their dinner in silence, then Liz’s cell phone started to ring, nearly making Michael choke on his food. Liz looked at her caller ID, “It’s Maria” she said happily she answered without waiting.

“Maria where have you been? You scared me have to death.” Liz rambled.

“Where have I been she asks? I know your with Michael I have something really important to tell you first before I start the Michael rant.” She paused

“Maria I’m sorry I didn’t want to lie to you, but he made me.” She glared at Michael, he glared back at her.

“First if you didn’t want me finding out you could have at least cleaned up your breakfast dishes, Michael is known for making scrambled eggs. Second Darin is FBI agent, I tried to get info out of him but that is not happening, it took me two days but I got away from him, I’m on my way to meet you guys in Roswell.” Maria rambled still annoyed.

“Wait Darin is FBI, does he know anything?” Liz freaked, she looked at Michael her eyes were really wide.

Michael shook his head in annoyance, he got money out of his wallet and threw it on the table. “Let’s go Now.” He looked at her.

She nodded while still talking to Maria on the phone, “Maria this is important, did he say anything about Max, Michael or Isabel?” she waited patiently.

“NO he was not to giving in the information department, so I left and now well I need to be around you guys even though I’m really ticked off about you two lying to me.”

“Can I call you back? I’ll talk to Michael and then see what his plan is”

“Yes fine but please don’t make me wait to long, I’m freaking out as it is, two days was long enough I don’t think my goose bumps have gone away completely.”

“I’ll call back within the next five minutes” she said still freaked out.

*~*

“Michael” Liz said with anger in her voice, “How could you let me leave her back there, with her boyfriend being an FBI agent.”

“I didn’t know he was FBI its not like he was waving a flag in the air, saying hey I’m an FBI agent.” He growled back at her.

“She wants to meet us, I say we stay here since were 12 hours from Boston” she wasn’t giving him much of a choice.

“Fine, we will wait for her.” Michael got into the car, Liz could hear the radio going he was blaring Metallica again.

Liz dialed Maria’s number, Maria picked up after the first ring “Hello”

“Hey, thank you for calling me back so what is the plan?”

“Like I wouldn’t call you back,” she said with sarcasm, “Ok we will wait at the motel for you, were staying at, the Regency Inn. Maria this place reminds me of that movie children of the corn, just a warning its so dark and eery.” Liz rambled

“I can hear Metallica in the background, watch out Liz Michael is pissed off proceed with caution.” Maria rambled. “So where exactly is the regency Inn?”

“ We are somewhere in Virginia, I think were right outside of a city called Abingdon don’t ask me I’ve never been here before.”

“Alright give me a second I have a map,” Maria said reaching for it on the passenger seat.

Liz could hear the crinkling of a map, “Ok so you at the far end, your on the edge of Virginia, Geez what was he doing 90 the entire time?” Maria ranted.

“I don’t know I fell asleep,” Liz rambled Michael started yelling at Liz.

“Were going NOW” he yelled over the music.

“Maria I gotta go we will see you in 12 hours.” Liz said with eagerness in her voice.

“I’m coming” she put her phone in her purse she got in the passenger side and slammed the door.

“What is your problem?” she said finally getting the nerve to yell at him.

Michael stared at her with shock, “Nothing we have to get to the motel.”

A/N thanks to the Sablaine who took time out of her schedule to help me beta these next few chapters

<center>Chapter Eight</center>

Michael stared at Liz when they got to the motel. What a dump, but at least there was less of a chance for them to get caught. How could Maria, of all people, date an FBI agent and not know it? She knew how dangerous that was. Now that the FBI was closer then he wanted them to be.

He continued to stare at Liz as she was getting the rooms for them. He just didn’t feel like being personable with anyone, especially that motel clerk. He looked like a jack ass.

Liz waited impatiently for the clerk to see what rooms were available.

He looked her up and down and noticed how she was dressed. She had changed at one of their last rest stops. She needed to get out of her denim. It wasn’t comfortable to sit too long in them. She changed into her khaki mini skirt and had a v-neck short sleeve that fit her slim physique. Her long brown hair was down and resting nicely on her shoulders.

“Are you sure that’s the only room you have available?” she asked with desperation. She turned to look at Michael in the car. He was being an ass as usual, but who could blame him? Liz, herself, had missed an important detail that could have put all of their lives in danger. With Max being psychotic their problems were only made that much worse. Who would have thought that Max would break in half just like that? Of course, she hadn’t been around him for the last year, so it might have been over a course of time.

“Yes, miss, I’m sure that’s the only room I have.” He checked her out again.

“Can you please look again?” she insisted.

“There is some kind of tourist attraction that’s pretty big this time of year, and every motel from this side of the city to the next is booked solid. Take it or leave it. You’ll be lucky to find another motel with any vacancies.” He handed her the key.

“Fine.” She grabbed the key, too exhausted to fight with him.

“That will be 45 dollars.” He winked at her.

Liz just smiled, but inside she wanted to throw up. What a creep he was. Hopefully they would only have to stay one night. She hoped Maria didn’t have to make to many bathroom stops on the way, otherwise they would have to stay another night.

She handed him the money and then headed towards the car, yet another disappointment for Michael to deal with. He wanted privacy and so did she, but it didn’t look like either one of them would get it tonight.

Michael wondered what could have been taking so long. Should he go and see if the guy was being a creep? As he opened the car door, he noticed Liz making her way quickly out the door. The look she had on her face wasn’t a happy look.

He stood up, leaning on the half opened car door. “So?”

“You’re not going to be happy.” She was afraid to tell him the news.

“Let me guess; they only had one room left and it only has one bed.” He sighed heavily

“Sorry. There is something going on in Abingdon, so were pretty much stuck here.” She felt his pain.

“I guess we will have to share then.” There wasn’t much he could do.

“Guess so,” Liz sighed. “Can you open the trunk so I can get my bag?” she asked sweetly.

“Go check the room out. I’ll get the bags.” He sighed again.

Liz was not in a hurry to see the room, but she did as he asked. Lucky for her it wasn’t a long walk to room 13. “Great,” she sighed with sarcasm. She unlocked the door and reached for the light switch. When she turned the lights on her jaw dropped in disgust. It had a musty smell similar to the one her grandmother’s basement had. This was going to be a long night. She wished they had, at least, put a couch or a chair in there. Instead there was just the bed with a very ugly comforter that had a plaid she never thought existed.

“It’s not the Hilton,” Michael said walking passed her with the bags.

Michael accidentally brushed up along side Liz as he walked by. She felt a shiver.

“Maybe you should see if the place has running water,” he mocked her disgust.

“Funny,” she said following behind him.

Isabel was paying close attention to the time. The drug will be wearing off any minute, she thought happily.

She was also paying close attention to the route Max was taking. They were then on 285 South. She was having flashbacks of driving down that road before. They were going to Atherton’s Dome or house or whatever the hell it was.

“Your arms should be feeling heavy now,” Max said in an almost normal tone.

“Yeah, kinda.”

“Don’t get to excited about that. I am giving you another dose. We can’t have you moving about freely, to use your powers on me, now can we?” he smirked at her.

“I promise I won’t use my powers on you Max. I just want to help you,” she protested. That was probably not the right thing to say to him.

“Why would I need help Iz? I told you I am not a killer. You already know who the killer is.” His tone was getting more intense with every word that came out of his mouth.

“No, I don’t. If you say its not you then let me help you. You proved to me already that you are innocent by taking such drastic measures. Please don’t drug me again.”

Max pulled over to the side of the road. It was night. Nobody could see what he was doing inside his truck; besides it was black. It blended in with the night. They wouldn’t see it until they were already passed him.

He pulled out a little blue bag and got the vial out, then another syringe. He poked the vial with the needle and pulled back. He filled the syringe all the way. He pulled a pair of rubber gloves out and put them on, then used an alcohol swab, to clean her arm.

“Max, please, I believe you I promise I do.”

“Somehow I don’t believe you, Iz. You were always good at manipulating people into getting what you want.” He put the needle in her arm. He saw her wince in pain.

“Max, please don’t do this,” she pleaded again.

It was too late. He pushed the syringe to its end point and the medication immediately began to take effect. She felt woozy. Her legs and arms were lifeless. Her lips and eyes felt heavy again. Damn him. She had to fight harder than this.

“Don’t fight it. You’ll just make it worse.”

Max started the truck and they headed south again.

Liz had just finished taking a shower. She was ready for bed. How would he be about sharing a bed with her? How would she be about sharing a bed with him? It didn’t matter. They were both going to sleep. That was it.

She hoped that her mind would let her sleep. That last dream she had was pretty bad - Mrs. Evans car accident and then Isabel being caught by Max.

She wrapped a towel around her body, then she heard a knock on the door.

“I’m almost done,” she yelled through the door.

“I kinda can’t wait,” Michael yelled back.

“Fine. Just give me a second,” she grumbled back at him.

Liz left the bathroom. She was still in her towel. This was not going to be good. She was going to be naked in front of Michael Guerin. Not really naked but just barely covered, which was bad enough. Who knew where his mind would wander to? Liz stop it, she demanded. He’s Michael. That made her worry even more.

“Sorry,” she said, walking out still in her towel and with wet hair.

He couldn’t help but glance at her as he ran past her and slammed the door shut.

“Michael, please make it quick,” She couldn’t believe she had just said that to him.

“I can’t exactly control it,” he yelled back at her but was secretly smiling to himself. She looked hot in her towel.

A few seconds later Michael came out. He couldn’t help but stare at her, but he quickly looked away when she turned around. Had she noticed him looking at her? Maybe not. Or maybe she did. He didn’t care. He was ready to go to sleep. He was tired.

“Liz,” Michael said sheepishly

“Yes,” She tugged at the top of her towel to make sure it was secure.

“What side of the bed do you want?” He smiled at her as she tugged on her towel.

“It doesn’t matter,” She smiled with embarrassment. She headed towards the bathroom.

“Wait,” he inadvertently called out.

Liz turned around surprised, “What?”

“Never mind. It can wait,” he said. He could feel his face turn all kinds of red. He looked away.

Chapter Nine

Liz changed into her sweats and a non-revealing tank top. She didn’t want to wear anything that might make Michael uncomfortable. Michael was already laying in bed, the pillow resting up against the head board, remote control in hand. At least this place had cable.

Michael watched as Liz came out of the bathroom, freshly made up for bed. He never could understand women and their need to shower before bed. It was a weird tradition and he couldn’t get used to it. Men just waited until the next morning, or at least he did.

He noticed she wasn’t wearing anything to sexy. That was good for him because it was going to be an experience just laying next to her. Would he behave? He hoped he didn’t do anything embarrassing in his sleep.

Liz pulled the covers back and looked at him. “Find anything interesting on T.V.?” she asked as she got under the covers.

“Not really,” he grumbled. He continued to flip through the channels. He was desperately trying to revert his attention to the television and not on Liz. After all, it had been a while since he’d even been near women.

All Michael could smell was her soap. She smelled so clean and fresh that he was having a hard time keeping his attention on the television. He didn’t know if he should start conversation. He wasn’t really tired anymore. He wanted to know more about the dream she had, because from the way she was screaming it had to be more then just a vision of Isabel.

Liz noticed him looking at her. “Did you want to ask me something,” she said as she pulled out a magazine from her bag.

“No,” he quickly answered, still noticing how she looked even in sweats.

“How many times have you actually seen the Matrix?” she teased him.

“Enough,” he smirked at her. “Are you tired? Will the T.V. bother you?” He was sounding quite pitiful at the moment.

“No, its fine, but are you sure you didn’t want to ask me something, earlier?” She gave him one more chance.

“You’re tired. We can talk about it in the morning.” He turned the television off and the light on his side of the bed. “Night,” he grumbled. Coward

Liz looked at him as he turned the light on his side of the bed off. She looked at her magazine and decided she better sleep for the night. Who knew when they would get another decent night’s sleep?

She turned her light off and started to drift into a deep sleep almost instantly. Her mind was just full of thoughts, first Isabel then Max. that was weird. She was seeing images, first Mile markers and then that dome thing Michael used to draw - Atherton’s place. What she was seeing was information Isabel was sending her, thoughts. But why? Then the car accident came into her mind, blinding her thought processes. All she could manage to get was that Max was at the scene of the crime.

Michael woke up startled. Liz had been talking in her sleep. He looked at the clock. They had only been sleeping for about 3 hours.

He nearly jumped off the bed when she let out another blood curdling scream. He quickly ran to her side and turned the light on.

“Liz,” he said shaking her gently. “Liz wake up.”

Liz opened her eyes in confusion. Why did he have that look on his face? She must have screamed in reality. Sometimes she screamed in her dream, but she didn’t think it was actually out loud. Poor Michael she thought. Waking him out of his sleep.

“What happened?” she looked at him with pitiful eyes.

“You blew my ear drum with that scream,” he smirked at her.

“Sorry,” she said looking a bit embarrassed.

“You mumbled something before the scream about Atherton.” He had this strange look on his face.

“Atherton? Why would I mumble Atherton?” She sat up rubbing her tired eyes.

“I was hoping you could tell me.” He was sitting on the edge of the bed nearly touching her leg with his.

Isabel fought to keep her eyes on the picture that Max had on his dashboard. It was all of them at Prom. A happy time. She was confused as to why it was there, but she would use it to her advantage and aim for someone, then try to send them messages. She was hoping that it was Michael, but it was highly likely he was good at blocking things out of his mind.

She concentrated on the center of the picture and then closed her eyes sending whatever mental images she could get out. Max was getting closer to the Dome. Was that where he was taking her? Maybe she would get lucky and Kyle would somehow manage to get the images, but that was also doubtful. She certainly hoped it wasn’t Maria because she knew Maria would have no clue as to what to do with them.

Max was humming a song. She couldn’t quite make out the tune to it. Then again he was crazy and it could have been something he made up on his own. He was paying attention to the road, which was good. She could use that to her advantage to.

Then Max stopped humming. Please keep humming. She thought it was oddly comforting; she needed his attention to be anywhere but her. She just needed a few more minutes, to get the last mile marker in her mind.

“Are you hungry?” Max asked her in a mundane tone.

Isabel snapped out of her dream walking.

“Oh, right sorry.” He mocked her condition.

“Ass,” she mumbled under her breath.

“Hey, that will get you nowhere. I’m stopping before we get to our destination. I can help you to the bathroom if you need it.”

not a chance in hell she thought. “I’d rather pee my pants” she grumbled, in her groggy state.

“Suit yourself.” Max shrugged it off not caring, he was humming again.

Whatever hit him over the head sure did a good job of giving him brain damage. Wasn’t he the strong one of the group? Didn’t he have some mechanism that protected his mind from any intrusion? He was the king, but what if there was someone so much stronger than him? What if it was Khivar or, even worse, what if Tess didn’t really die in that building? She shook that thought out of her mind. What if something really did make him kill his own mother? He would be devastated if he ever snapped out of this waking coma he was in.

She was starting to believe that he wasn’t aware of anything he was doing. She remembered seeing a special on the history channel, with people who said they had been abducted. Their minds were literally frozen and they were being intruded in their minds. They said it was almost like they were dreaming the whole thing, but they would wake up with the residual effects of whatever procedure was performed on them. This could be what was happening to her brother. She was satisfied with hitting on a possible answer yet sad at the same time. He was innocent. He didn’t do it.

Did any of that even make sense? Of course it did. She had to believe that her brother wasn’t a killer. He was giving her clues without realizing it himself. He said she already knew who the killer was. The only person who came to mind was Tess. But wasn’t Tess dead? And if so, could there be someone else who was after them.

<center>*~*</center>

Maria had been making good time, or so she thought. She heard an annoying pop and then her car started moving out of control. Damn piece of shit. She had a flat tire.

She managed to get to the side of the road. She was out in the sticks. There was nobody around for miles. How would she get a tow truck out there? Maybe she would get lucky and someone would come driving by soon.

She pulled out her cell phone. It was charged to its full battery strength but there wasn’t any signal. What was she going to do? Well, she had no other choice. She had to get the stuff out of the trunk to fix her flat. Hopefully she remembered to put a new tire in the trunk to replace the last flat she had.

To her surprise, the tire was there. It was just a matter of getting the tire where it was supposed to go. She failed miserably the first attempt. She had scars on her hands to prove it.

Grabbing her cell phone again, she walked a little further trying to get a signal when she spotted headlights in the distance. Please don’t be a psycho. Please don’t be a psycho.

The car stopped. It looked oddly familiar. It couldn’t be could it? She was confused as to how he could have found her.

The Red 2005 Ford Mustang pulled up behind her. The man slowly got out of his car. She should have known he was following her.

“So, I know I should be grateful, but I’m starting to wonder if my phone is bugged.” She glared at Darin.

“Why would I do that? I quit my job,” he said with a mundane tone, disappointed that she wasn’t happy to see him.

“Yeah, right. Fifteen years on the job and you quit just like that, losing your pension or whatever it is they give government employees?” Maria snarled. He did look like shit. “If you didn’t bug my phone then how did you find me?” she asked impatiently.

“I heard you come in. I wasn’t really in the shower. I had already taken one.” He looked at her facial expressions to see if she was buying any of it.

“Still doesn’t explain how you found me?” she snapped.

“Let’s just say I went on a hunch. Do you want that tire fixed or not?”

“Fine, but this conversation isn’t over.”

Chapter Ten

Darin pulled the tire out of the trunk. He looked up to make sure that Maria wasn’t paying attention to him. He pulled out a jack knife from out of his pocket. He sliced a hole in the spare. He wasn’t going to let her get involved with the so called ‘Aliens’. Her life would be in danger again. She would be safe with him. He was the FBI. He took the tire out, and pretended to try and put it where the flat one used to be.

“I think we have a problem.” He tried to look disappointed.

“Problem? Problem isn’t a word in my dictionary right now.” She glared at him.

“Well, then we have a situation.” He looked at her with pleading eyes.

“Great!” She threw her hands up in the air in frustration.

“Sorry. It must have had a hole in it or maybe they gave you a bad spare.” He put the tire back in the trunk.

“I didn’t realize you were that afraid of me,” he said with desperation.

“Afraid? I’m not afraid just – well, to be honest with you, I don’t know what I am right now.” She glanced at her cell phone.

“Who are you going to call?” he said with jealousy. “Michael?” Anger rose in his voice.

“No.” She shook her head. “Just call me a tow truck. I know you did something to my phone.”

“Fine, where do you want it towed to?” He had no intention of letting her get away that easily.

“The next gas station,” she grunted, obviously irritated with him.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael waited patiently for Liz to answer. What was Isabel trying to tell them? She obviously needed help. Was Max taking her to the Dome, where they all went as group and discovered important information? But why would she send the images to Liz and not him? There was always a good reason for anything Isabel sent out. Liz just had to try harder to remember.

“Do you remember anything other then Atherton and the Dome?” he asked as calmly as he could.

“No.” She shook her head in disappointment. “Maybe if I try to go back to sleep she will keep trying to send the messages.” Liz looked directly into his eyes.

He looked directly back into her eyes. He finally felt a connection with her. “Try closing your eyes. Maybe the images will become more clear.” He held out his other hand to her. She took it without hesitation.

“I can’t promise anything,” she said with sadness. Michael squeezed her hand.

“Just try. That’s all I’m asking.”

“Okay.” Liz closed her eyes and waited a few seconds, hoping that some kind of image or thought would pop into her mind. She remembered reading an article on dreams and the thought process and that if you forced your mind to remember something it wouldn’t. It was like trying to tell someone who had amnesia the truth. You would risk forcing their memories to disappear. She had to try. She did with all her might and nothing was coming in. She let out a sigh, and looked at Michael who was still holding her hands.

“It’s not working.” She looked at him with disappointment.

“Maybe were trying too hard.” He released her hands.

“Michael, maybe it will work if I just go back to sleep.” She tried to sound reassuring.

“Is that even possible after that last scream? I don’t know. You sounded so…” He paused. “So scared.”

“I probably was, but if it’s worth saving Isabel, then I have to at least try.” She pushed her hair behind her ears and smiled. She patted the side of the bed where he was sleeping.

Michael walked around and sat down next to her. He rested his head on the headboard. This was so frustrating. They both had alien powers. His were stronger then hers. He should be able to do something to help his sister, to let her know that her message was received loud and clear. Maybe Isabel was sending the scream as a message. It did happen twice.

Liz reached for Michael’s hand. He gave it to her without a fight. “Let’s try together.” She smiled, looking at him.

He was afraid of letting Liz Parker in. He was never really close to her. This situation was more than awkward but, like she said, it was to save Isabel.

“Are you ready?” Liz asked, looking right into his eyes.

He looked at her. He was suddenly not afraid anymore. He felt the courage to do this with her, even though he was afraid she would see something he didn’t want her to see.

“I’m ready,” he sighed and closed his eyes.

<center>*~*</center>

Isabel couldn’t move anything. The drug had taken full effect. It was even stronger than the last dose Max gave her. Her mind was still able to see reality; she just couldn’t focus and she was afraid to fall asleep for fear of what her brother might do. He was humming that song again. She knew that song but she couldn’t quite make out the tune; it was muffled.

“Max,” Isabel tried to choke out.

“You interrupted me!” he snapped at her.

“Someone is doing this to you,” she managed to get out, before she started to cough. “Let me help you,” she pleaded with him.

He looked at his sister. Was she being sincere or was she trying to trick him? “I’ll make it go away if you are being honest with me.” He glanced over at her.

“That song your humming – Mom…” She coughed again. “Our Mother used to hum that to us, before we went to sleep at night. Remember?” It was really hard to move her lips. It took whatever energy she had.

“I remember,” he said, unsure of her motives.

He pulled over on the side of the road. He reached for a bottle of water and held it up to his sister’s lips. “Drink,” he said with exhaustion.

Isabel tried to sip the water bottle but her throat wouldn’t let her swallow. She gasped, then tried to take another sip. This time she was successful. “I think someone has been mind warping you,” she finally could talk without gasping for air. “They’ve been making you do things. Remember Alex?” she asked innocently.

“Tess is dead,” he bluntly stated, then looked at his sister somewhat relieved.

“Then someone else. We have a new enemy.” A look of hope and fear in her eyes, she did not want her brother to be a killer even though he was a pain in the ass.

She didn’t believe that Tess was dead. This had her name written all over it, but why would she come back after all this time? Did she want her son back? Max didn’t have him. He gave Zan up for adoption. If this was what was happening, they were all in serious trouble. A Mother scorned, was nothing to fool around with. She was obviously showing that by messing with the king of Antar.

Chapter Eleven

Maria tried to reach Liz on her cell phone, but there was no answer. She desperately needed to get in touch with Liz. This entire Darin situation was practically breaking her into shattered glass. The tow truck had called Darin and said that it would be four hours before they could come get her. Maria decided it was better to just go with Darin.

“So, what are we going to do from here?” He looked over at Maria who was fidgeting with her phone.

Darin grabbed the phone from her. He lifted the battery flap up and removed a tiny device that looked like a watch battery and threw it out the window. “See? It was all for you. I don’t want to hurt anyone.” They sat in the car in silence for a few minutes.

“Well I can’t go meet them; they aren’t too trusting when it comes to FBI agents.” She glared at him, grabbing her phone back.

“So call them. Maybe they will have some insight on this situation.” He watched her dial a number.

The phone rang but nobody answered. Maria did not like this. Had Darin somehow found Michael and Liz? She wouldn’t forgive him if that was the case. He lied to her, he used her and now he’d endangered two people that she cared about. Then again, maybe she was jumping to conclusions. He did take the bug out of her phone. But that didn’t mean anything. He could have planted one somewhere else. He might have even heard where they were staying and all hell was about to break loose. She had to get to Michael and Liz.

“They aren’t answering!” she shrieked. “How do I know you don’t have agents already at their motel?” she finally asked. How could she do this to Michael?

“You really think that low of me,” he said, disappointment coloring his voice. “Why would I hurt anyone who is close to you? Is it so hard to believe that I care about you? Maria, I love you.” He hoped she would look past all this and believe him.

“You love me?” She shook her head and tears started to form. “How can you love me?”

“My feelings have been growing for you for the past year. I just wish I could help you to get over Michael.” He tried to sound sincere.

“Right. It’s more like you wish you could use me to get to Michael.” She looked out the window.

“That is not true and you know it,” he grumbled. “This relationship wasn’t all lies.”

“Yeah, whatever, buddy. Just keep believing your lies.” She wasn’t making sense, but she rarely ever did.

*~*

Michael’s forehead was dripping volumes of sweat; he wasn’t getting any information. He could only hope that Liz was getting something. A bolt of energy went through their two bodies. Michael saw nothing and his mind went black.

The sound of a loud thump woke him out of his coma. What happened? He scratched his head and realized that Liz was on the other side of the room. That was odd. He stood up. His legs were numb and it was hard for him to walk. This is what happened when he tried to use any of his powers.

“Liz.” He bent down and tried to pull the lifeless body in his arms. he was looking at her chest hoping that he could see her chest rising up and down. He was relieved when she still had a pulse but she was out cold. That blast of energy didn’t just affect him; it obviously affected her. This entire situation was entirely too surreal for even him.

He tried to call her name but she didn’t respond. He knelt down next to her and put her head in his lap. He pushed the long brown locks of hair out of her face. She had a bruise from hitting the wall. He finally felt movement. She was coming to, or at least he hoped she was; he couldn’t lose another member of the group. He couldn’t fathom losing her.

“Liz,” he said again in a much louder tone. He patted her shoulder hoping to get her attention. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Michael looking down at her. Her blank look instantly changed to tears. He knew she must have seen something. He hoped it wasn’t anything from his subconscious.

“Michael?” she finally managed to mumble out. “What happened?” Her voice was weak and hoarse.

“Does it hurt?” he asked her with concern. Liz Parker had made him care for the first time in his life, really care. He went to put his hand over her wound, but she pushed his hand away. Stupid, Guerin, he thought. She’s in pain from your explosion of Power.

“Yes,” she mumbled, “I need to go wash my face.” He grabbed her hand and helped her to stand up the best he could because his legs were still tingling.

Once Liz was safely in the bathroom, Michael sat on the bed and just stared at the wall in front of him. He had no patience for this drama. He needed to know what was going on so he could save his sister from the clutches of Max, the psychopath.

*~*

Isabel had managed to get a clear message through. She tried to make her feelings as clear as possible but the drug was making that hard. She looked over at Max, whom was staring out the window. She was curious what he was thinking about; actually she was scared and curious at the same time. They had been sitting on the side of the road for an hour.

“Max,” Isabel said with a motherly tone.

Max turned to look at her. He had tears in his eyes. He was happy that his sister believed him. He wasn’t happy that his surrogate Mother died because of him. He was starting to fight whatever was controlling his mind. This was a good sign. Isabel felt relieved for the first time in a long time.

“Iz, I’m,” he paused and looked away, “I’m sorry”

“Max, can you take this drug out of my system?” she tried to ask him as calmly as possible.

“As long as you promise not to leave me.” He looked down. “Promise you won’t leave me like everyone else did.” His eyes were wide and full of fear.

Isabel’s heart broke in half. “I promise I won’t leave,” she tried to reassure him.

Max checked the road to make sure that nobody was coming. He was safe to heal his sister. He placed his cold hand on her arm where he injected the drug into her body. He closed his eyes and started to heal Isabel. He felt all of the pain that she had gone through this last year. He regretted not letting her see their Mother being buried. She needed closure, and he took that right from her.

Isabel could feel the release of the drug. She could also feel the pain that Max had been feeling; he was hurt and confused. She couldn’t tell if those were really his feelings or the mind control. Maybe if they stopped for the night to sleep, she could dream walk him. She needed more time than what she had with Michael or Liz. At least she hoped that Michael or Liz were the ones to get the messages.

“Max, you know I’m really tired.” She yawned. “Can we stop for the night?” She hoped he would say yes.

“I don’t know if it is such a good idea,” he questioned her again.

“I think we both need a good nights sleep,” she said trying to make a point.

“I guess it couldn’t hurt.” He looked at the clock on the truck’s radio. It was late.

Max looked at his sister. “We will stop at the next exit, then tomorrow we have to go to the dome.”

She sighed in relief. “Thanks.” She smiled. She took the water bottle that was stashed on the seat.

*~*

Liz looked at herself in the mirror, the images going through her mind. They were choppy but this time she had feelings to go with the images. There was a first time for everything. How can I tell Michael that Max is being controlled? How can I tell him that they have a new enemy? How can I tell him?

A knock on the door interrupted her thought session. “Yeah, I’ll be out in a second.” She turned the water faucet on and splashed water on her bruised face. It was a pretty nasty bruise. She didn’t think she hit the wall that hard, but she did. The water stung when she splashed her face.

She opened the door to see a disgruntled Michael. There was a logical way to deal with this. There had to be.

“Sorry, did you need to use the bathroom again?” she smirked.

“No, I was just worried about you.” Did he actually say that out loud?

“To answer your question from before, I did see something. I also felt that something.” She searched his face for any sign of a response, but he was Michael and he was not easy to read.

“So tell me,” he said, sounding hopeful.

“I think you should sit down. I don’t need you going all Max on me,” she sighed. “Before I tell you anything I need you to promise me that you won’t get angry.”

Michael didn’t like the tone in her voice. This was the Liz he remembered from sophomore year. This Liz was in control. He could take it; at least he hoped he could take it. “Just tell me,” he sighed, following her instructions and sitting down.

“There is a new enemy,” she blurted out. “Now hear me out. The feelings Isabel sent with the images were choppy and from what I got Max was not responsible for his mother’s death. He was or is being controlled. She thinks that somehow Tess survived and is working with a new enemy.” Liz looked at Michael.

“I think you hit your head a little to hard. You hallucinated that.” He stopped then looked at Liz, that bruise was really awful. “The Tess part is a little more believable.”

“Tess? That is always possible.” She tried to not sound condescending. “You would know better then I would.” She shrugged and sat next to him on the bed, she had to refrain from sitting to close to him. She didn’t want to be thrown across the room again.

He noticed that she flinched when he looked at her, “Oh, uh-I’m sorry about blasting you across the room. I’m not really good at intense.” He looked down to the ground.

“It’s fine really.” She touched the bruise on her face as a reminder to not try this again. “I’m really starting to worry about Maria. She should have called by now. She said she would check in when she reached a halfway point.” She didn’t mean to throw any more worries in his direction, but they still had to deal with the FBI situation that Maria had gotten them into.

Michael looked up at her. He had totally forgotten about Maria, but then again she wasn’t first on his list to protect. Liz was because of her connection to Max. She was more susceptible to an alien attack. “I’m sure she’s fine. She probably stopped for the night.” He couldn’t throw himself into a panic. He couldn’t worry about what-ifs. He needed to save Isabel, and he needed to save Max. This game was switching way to fast for him.

“Famous last words.” Liz looked up at him, Is that compassion in his eyes? She felt like she was in some warped dream. Michael had compassion, Maria was dating an FBI agent and possibly kidnapped now, Max was psychotic, Isabel had been kidnapped by Max who was being controlled, and Max’s Mother being killed by another enemy of the pod squad.

“Let me fix that bruise.” Michael felt guilty.

“I thought you didn’t have healing abilities?” She jumped.

“I do. I healed Riverdog’s ankle once, and he’s perfectly fine.” He tried to reassure her.

Liz sighed. It did hurt and she didn’t want to draw attention to them. They had enough problems. They didn’t need nosey people asking questions, and she certainly didn’t want the police getting involved. She didn’t need to be mistaken for a battered wife or girlfriend.

“Okay, go ahead,” she said with reluctance in her voice.

Michael smiled. She was starting to trust him and he was starting to trust her. The two least people who would be likely to form a kinship were. Michael softly cupped her face where the bruise was imprinted. He closed his eyes, and the glow came from his hand a yellow glow.

He got flashes for the first time. They weren’t forced. They were flowing naturally into his mind. He was probably seeing what Max saw. Liz as a small child, her heart breaking when she found out their destinies, the love she had for each and everyone of them… he even felt her love for him.

Liz was surprised to see images from him. She was shocked at what she saw: Michael running from his motor home, Hank chasing after him with a belt buckle, Michael hiding in the closet shaking after he had been beaten from Hank in one of his drunken binges. The day she came to warn him that Topolsky was looking at his records and asking questions, the day she was kidnapped by Nascedo, the fear he felt that day.

<center>Chapter Twelve</center>

Maria sat in the passenger seat. She kept dialing Liz’s cell phone but there was no answer. She couldn’t help but think the worst. She was getting frustrated Liz answer the damn phone. Come on, chica. I know you’re there. Why aren’t you answering?

“Still no answer?” He sounded empathetic for her benefit.

“No,” she snapped at him. “Where are we?” She hadn’t realized that they had changed direction.

“We’re headed toward a safe house,” he said bluntly.

“I never agreed to go to some safe house, and in what sense do you mean safe house?” She was really worried now.

“It is what it sounds like, Maria. You’re in danger. I’m not taking you to see a potentially dangerous person-alien-whatever he is. You’re going nowhere near him,” he raised his voice.

“Were almost to Washington D.C. I’m not turning around.” He was saddened by her lack of trust.

“Great. Just great. I’m not telling you where they are. You can just forget it,” she yelled.

“I can find them on my own,” he said in with a warning in his tone.

“Look, I’ve been through this before. I’ve had relations with Michael. He isn’t and doesn’t want to hurt anybody. I can promise you that, so just turn the car around and at least wait until I can talk to Liz,” she pleaded. Stall him, just stall him until you get a hold of Liz. Oh yeah, breathe, De Luca, breathe.

“I can’t. I already informed my boss we were headed to the safe house. If we don’t show, agents will be scouring the countryside.”

“Then call them and tell them there isn’t a threat,” she pleaded. “Darin, please. You at least owe me that.”

“I’m sorry, Maria. I can’t.” He looked back towards the road.

<center>*~*</center>

Liz reached for Michael’s hand, which was still cupping her face. With her other hand, she reached out to caress his cheek to show sympathy for what he had been through. He started to get a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach. They just looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity.

Should she break the silence? Should she keep this going? A part of her didn’t want to let go of the moment. She couldn’t help what she was feeling.

Michael removed his hand from Liz’s face and dropped his gaze downward toward where she traced the soft circles on his cheek. Embarrassed, she tried to pull her hand away but he stopped her. He placed his hand around the back of her neck. He so badly wanted to pull her close to him.

Then she did something that took him by surprise. She moved closer to him until they were a mere breath apart.

He leaned in and put his lips to hers. He could taste her toothpaste.

Liz was surprised at what was going on. Michael was kissing her. She didn’t want to stop. She went along with it, her tongue parting his lips and the kisses becoming more intense. She couldn’t have stopped even if she wanted to.

His hand started to roam up her back. His gentle massage it sent chills through out her body. She arched closer to him wanting more, always more.

Before they knew what was happening they were touching each other in areas that neither one of them thought they would ever touch on each other. Their passion surged forth, unstoppable. Neither one wanted to pull away and, even though knowing there were more important things to deal with, they were both aware the moment wouldn’t be stopping any time soon. Something inside wouldn’t let them stop.

Was this a side affect of an alien-hybrid healing a human? Was it because she was now an alien-hybrid herself? Liz tried to force her rational mind to work, but she was clearly losing her ability to focus on anything beside Michael.

As she and Michael were kissing, there hands were roaming each other without boundaries as it seemed. Liz gasped when she suddenly started to see purple flashes in her mind. Then, just as quickly as they appeared, they morphed into something new. She started to see his life, images flashing so fast that she couldn’t see anything clear enough to make out.[/i]

She pulled away, reaching for air, hoping that it would get to her lungs. She sat there gasping for breath, her eyes searching his. “Michael?” It was one word, but her question spoke volumes.

It hurt, literally hurt when she pulled away, but he didn’t say anything. Instead he leaned in and started to kiss her again, not wanting to let go. She wasn’t going to stop him.

They moved back on the bed. He pulled her pajama top off, exposing her beautiful breasts. Without waiting she removed his shirt, exposing his muscle-toned chest. He pulled her so she was straddling him in a sitting position. He was trying to be as patient with her as possible but he didn’t know how much longer he could hold on.

His hand moved from massaging her back to just above her tailbone. He wanted to remove her pajama bottoms, but he wasn’t sure if he should be this forward. Just as he was going to stop and ask the question, he felt Liz’s hand moving towards his boxers. She was caressing him where he never thought he would be touched by Liz Parker. He let out a moan, and positioned her legs so that he could remove her pajama bottoms.

Liz jumped as a sort of a reflex when he tried to remove her pajama bottoms Am I crazy? Is this really going to happen? Apparently it was because she was in no mood to stop. She felt so wet; God she wanted him. Not even Max could make her feel this way - so full of passion, so full of love.

She still had to wonder if this was some residual effect of the healing. Is this just a side effect? Would Michael still want me if he weren’t an alien? She could feel the heat rising off his muscular toned chest and a small sigh escaped her lips. [/i]Parker you think to much.[/i] She felt her pajama bottoms being pulled off and her bare, just shaven legs exposed. All she had left on were her cotton whites. She couldn’t stop kissing him. His lips were just so plump and ripe. She couldn’t peel herself away from him.

<center>*~*</center>

Maria made a mental list of things she could do at this present time. She wasn’t sure that any of them were logical but she had to try.

Make him stop at the next gas station, pretend she had to go to the bathroom, then sneak out and run away while he wasn’t looking.

Mace - she had Mace in her purse. Spray his eyes with mace so the car would go out of control and they would crash and police would be called to the scene.

Go along with his little charade, so he wouldn’t hurt her or try to get to Michael and Liz.

God, how she wished she had cedar oil, lavender oil, or cypress oil; focus De Luca.

Pretend she was having a coronary. She didn’t need to pretend. Maybe he would take her to the hospital. She could join Max in the Psych ward.

Tell him she needed to see her Mother, because at this rate all of the above were not going to work. Why wasn’t Liz answering her cell phone? That girl never did remember to put her cell phone on the charger. Yup that had to be it. Why else wouldn’t she be answering her phone.

“Maria.” Darin snapped her out of her stupor.

She looked at him Think quickly. You’re almost to the safe house.

“Could you stop? I kind of need to use the restroom.” She felt stupid but maybe it would work.

What kind of moron did she think he was? He would play along just for her amusement. “Yeah, there is a Diner up ahead, if you can wait.”

Time to try number one on her list of ways to escape the FBI mad man. “Thanks,” she smirked.

Yeah, right. She’ll never be so lucky.

<center>*~*</center>

Max and Isabel made it to the motel in Marathon, Texas. It wasn’t too bad. All Isabel wanted to do was lie down. She was exhausted from being drugged. Her emotions were scattered she was trying to get a grasp on things. The Motel had a 24-hour diner next door and they had eaten something before checking in the room. Isabel still wanted to leave, but she promised Max she wouldn’t. After all this wasn’t his fault; at least, she hoped it wasn’t his fault.

Isabel didn’t have any clothes to change into so she just laid on top of the covers and closed her eyes. Max was out for a walk. He said he needed something sane to do. Isabel had taken the Prom picture off the dash board without him thinking twice about. She touched the picture and pointed to both Michael and Liz. She had a strong feeling that they were together. She closed her eyes and started to send everything: the healing, the removal of the drug, the dome, she sent lots of energy regarding Tess and the ‘so-called new enemy’.

She was trying to send whatever else she could send. As she was sending the information, Maria flickered into her mind. That was weird. It immediately snapped her out of her dreamwalk. She woke up to find Max sitting on the edge of the bed. He had his chin in his hand and he was crying. Had he realized the truth? Had he remembered what he did?

Isabel sat up. “Max?”

“I’m okay,” he tried to reassure her. “I’ve been thinking about things.” He turned to look at her. “Did you get through to Liz?” he asked hopeful.

“I’m trying to get through to both Michael and Liz, but I am not sure if it’s working” she said with frustration. “I’ll keep trying okay?” He needed reassurance; the look on his face was breaking her ice filled heart. “Just hold on, okay?”

“Oh, I got some weird images of Maria. I think something is wrong,” she said as an afterthought, looking at Max.

He just looked at his sister. He felt really terrible for all of things that had taken place, but he knew his mind was not his and it wasn’t his fault. He still took the blame knowing he couldn’t use that as an excuse. “Did you get enough to know what was going on?” His eyes were wide and filled with hope, something that he hadn’t had in a long time.

“No, just that she was scared. It threw me out of the dream walk.” She sighed in frustration. “I think we should call Michael. I gave him a cell phone to use for emergencies only,” she finally said.

“Does he know....” he trailed off, “about me being, you know…?” He looked at Isabel hoping she would finish the sentence for him.

“Not yourself?” she winked at him. “I think he does, but I think a part of him knows that it isn’t all your fault. I wouldn’t worry.”

<center>*~* </center>

Maria was in the bathroom in the Diner. She had brought her cell phone with her. She needed to call Sheriff Valenti. He would know what to do because it looked like she wasn’t going to get out of this safe house mess without his help.

As Maria dialed the numbers her fingers started to shake. Focus, De Luca, focus. She punched in the numbers as she rehearsed what she would say and how she would say it. She heard the phone ring on the other end, then an all too familiar voice answered, and it was professional to her surprise.

“Roswell Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Kyle Valenti.”

“Deputy Valenti speaking,” she heard his Father in the background yell at him.

“Uh, Kyle,” she stammered

“Hurri-Maria,” he then sighed, realizing that she was probably calling because of the alien drama he hoped to put behind him. “Let me guess. Another alien invasion?” he said with sarcasm.

“Okay, first of all, hurricane De Luca is so old that it doesn’t even fit me anymore. Second, I have to make this quick. I’m under the grasp of a rogue FBI mad man, who was supposed to be the new love of my life - you know the kind with no aliens. Anyway it turns out he is FBI and he is after Michael and Liz. Well, I also believe that Max has gone off the deep end and I don’t mean oceans. He’s gone psychotic.” She sighed breathing in air. “Kyle, are you getting any of this?”

“Go on. You’ve peaked my interest. Do I need to put this out over the emergency broadcasting system?” he snickered.

“Kyle!” Maria said sharply. “This isn’t funny!”

“Alright, alright. Point taken. Geez.” He started to get serious. “What’s your location, and how many men do I need?” He smiled as he was talking.

“Kyle, please. I’m stuck in some dingy disgusting bathroom, that looks as though as it hasn’t been cleaned since the year 1985.” She was hoping he would take this seriously.

“Can I please talk to your Father if you won’t be serious? I don’t have much time.”

“Fine, I’m being serious. Give me your location and cell phone number, and I’ll see what my Father can come up with. Sit tight.”

“Easy for you to say. Oh, and when you call back, if I’m near him, I’ll call you Liz,” she had to smile at that.

“Great. Fine. Whatever. Try stalling him for as long as you can.”

Maria gave him all the information: her cell number, the direction of the safe house in Washington D.C. Then she stayed in the bathroom for as long as she possibly could without making it look like she was up to something. But when Kyle still hadn’t called her back, she had no other choice but to go back out to the table that Darin was sitting at.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael and Liz were in an embrace. She had stripped him of his boxers leaving him fully exposed. She could feel that he was ready. Their lips were sore and rough from all of the kissing. She felt his hands slip into her panties, sliding them off and she wasn’t stopping him. It had been awhile since both of them had been in any kind of sexual situation.

Michael’s hand made his way between her thighs until he reached her folds. He wanted to make her give into the desire they were both feeling. He could hear her moaning. She wanted more, and he was going to give her more. He nudged her legs apart with his knee and moved over her.

Their eyes met. “I want you,” he whispered.

Her breath hitched, even as she nodded. Was she crazy for wanting this? She didn’t know and she didn’t care. She just wanted him.

He reached out and smoothed the hair away from her face. It was such a gentle gesture amidst such passion.

“Michael?” she breathed.

“Shh,” he quieted her. He bent down and brushed his lips against hers, willing her to give in. She opened herself to him yet again, allowing her to taste his sweetness.

And then she could feel him pushing inside. She gasped slightly and stiffened at the pain.

Michael stilled. “Liz?” Why hadn’t she told him?

But the pain was already easing and a new ache taking it’s place. She arched toward him. “Michael, please.”

He couldn’t resist. He began to move slowly within her, gentle at first so that he wouldn’t cause her any pain. He brushed his lips against her again, kissing her so tenderly.

She closed her eyes and sighed. She felt his hands massaging her breasts, then her nipples. He teased her with his tongue. His other hand rubbed small circles, massaging her clit.

The thrusting was getting more intense. He had moved her so she was laying on her side with her back facing his chest, and he was able to move more easily. She was moaning so loud she was afraid the entire motel could hear them, but she didn’t care. This felt entirely to good to stop.

Michael was kissing the back of her neck, then the side. He brushed her long brown locks out of the way for easier access. He traced lines down her soft skin with the tip of his tongue, blowing gently on them.

She turned around breaking the thrusting for a single second. She wanted to look at him; she wanted to see his face. Feeling him inside her wasn’t enough.

He didn’t stop her. He helped roll into the position, then entered her again. Her legs wrapped around him as he surged within her again seeking a release.

She felt him release inside her and she knew that it was over. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t long enough. She needed more. She looked at him. She kissed his forehead tasting his salty sweat. They were both shivering, both exhausted. He kissed her lightly on the lips.

<center>Chapter Thirteen</center>

Darin watched as Maria walked towards the diner’s restroom. He knew this diner very well. He and his buddies used to stop here on occasion when they were on their way to a stakeout or just a lunch break. They were open 24 hrs. They hadn’t been paying attention to the time, which was weird because he was always looking at his watch.

It was rather late at night, around Midnight. He couldn’t believe so much time had been wasted with arguing. He needed to keep Maria safe. He felt strange the last few days. He didn’t understand why. He kept having dizzy spells and black outs. He would wake up and not remember where he had been.

He blamed it on the stress that was in his life. Maria was his life; she didn’t understand. He wanted to protect her and all of her friends. He destroyed all the bugs in his apartment and in hers. He took the one out of her cell phone. The FBI had already gotten the information that they needed; it was pointless to argue over this. But Maria consistently had to win. This time he wouldn’t give in.

He couldn’t give in for fear that something terrible would happen to her. In fact, he knew that if she went to meet Liz and Michael in Virginia something terrible would happen. She was right about one thing; agents knew the location of the ‘suspected aliens’. It was just a matter of when and how they would be approached.

Just as he was going to get up and look for Maria, she came walking out of the restroom. She looked more distraught then before she went into the restroom. He noticed how beautiful she was. He hadn’t taken the time to realize it at all that day. The last thing he really remembered before getting to the car, was listening to the tape of her and Liz’s conversation. Then somehow he found her.

He noticed her long, curly blonde hair and the dress she had on. Even though it was winter, she dressed as though it were spring, but that’s what he loved about her; she was different. She didn’t make excuses for who she was. She had an opinion and she stuck to it. He could tell that something had changed from the time she went into the restroom, to the time she came back out to the table.

“Everything okay?” he asked in a gentle and loving manner.

Maria slid into the bench and rolled her eyes. She opened her purse. Lucky for her she had some lavender oil. She pulled the little vial out and began to sniff its contents. She suddenly felt very relaxed. Still she felt as though she was right back in the middle of her mid-terms. She hesitated before answering him.

“I’m tired of driving. Do you think we could just rest for awhile? Besides I’m starving. I haven’t eaten all day.” The waitress came over and handed her a menu. She sat two small cups of water down on the table.

“Need a minute?” the waitress said with a rushed tone.

Maria looked up and noticed the woman’s uniform. It reminded her of the Crashdown. She missed home.

“Um, no, I am ready.” Maria stopped the waitress from leaving the table. “I’ll have a cheese burger, side of fries, and large chocolate shake.” She smiled at the waitress.

She was definitely putting up a front. She was hiding something from him. He didn’t like being lied to. Of course, he really couldn’t get mad at her. He had been lying for the last six months, something he regretted and probably would regret for the rest of his life.

“Sounds good I’ll have the same.” Darin would play along with her little game.

<center>*~*</center>

Just as Maria was going to take a bite of her steaming hot, well-done cheese burger, her cell phone went off. She looked at the caller ID. It was blocked. Gee, I wonder who that could be? She quickly picked up her phone. She ignored the pathetic look that her now ex-boyfriend, Darin, had on his face. Well she still had yet to inform him of the news but, if he was as smart as he said he was, then he would figure it out.

“Oh, Liz, do you know how much you scared me?” she said nearly hyperventilating into the phone.

“You’re enjoying this way to much,” Kyle said sharply into the phone.

“Oh yes, immensely, you really have no idea,” she smirked.

“My father is working on something. How much longer can you hold him there?”

“Oh, we have to finish our meals. I’d say about another 45 minutes or so?” Maria rambled. She avoided Darin’s gaze, though she could feel his stare ripping into her soul.

“I’ll call back when the state police are on thier way,” Kyle said calmly into the phone.

“Oh great, that would be great LIZ,” she said trying to tell him in some sort of Maria code that it wouldn’t help anyone. State police were nothing compared to FBI.

Kyle picked up on her sarcasm, “It was the best we could do, otherwise you’ll have to grow some alien powers of your own and freeze him or something.” He smirked.

“Okay., do I need to remind you that is Charmed? Witches are so not real. Really, what are you two watching?” She chuckled.

“Whatever. Deal with the help or don’t. Either way, in less then an hour, the state police will be out in front of the diner,” Kyle said with force.

“Okay great. Thanks for calling. I’ll call you once we leave. And Liz, thanks for calling me back,” she smirked.

Maria was a really bad liar, and the entire Charmed discussion was probably a dead give away, because Kyle apparently sucked at talking in code. He couldn’t get aliens straight from witches, the boy was hopeless. She just hoped that Darin was too engrossed in eating his cheese burger to notice the conversation. When she looked up at him, she sensed something different about him. Okay, Tabasco sauce? Since when did he use Tabasco sauce on his food?

<center>*~*</center>

Isabel sat up quickly, trying to comfort her brother. This whole situation was entirely too surreal for both of them. As quickly as Max changed to being himself, he changed right back to being Psychotic again, making Isabel jump backward. At least she had the strength to use her powers against him.

She tried to hide the prom picture in her back pocket, but Max grabbed it from her. He was taunting her like an owner taunted its dog to play fetch. She was really freaked out. What power could she use against him. She could always dream walk him to death. Isabel let out frustrated sigh.

“Okay, we can play this childish game, if you want to.” She sat on the edge of the bed staring at him.

“Oh, stupid pathetic, Isabel.” He squeezed her cheek like she was a small child.

Isabel smacked his hand away, “Look, if you want to continue to play Dr. Jeykell and Mr. Hyde, do it on your own time. Right now I’m tired. She reached for the cell phone on the night stand, next to the bed.

At least she had comfortable clothes on, making it easier to run away from him. She ran to the bathroom and melted the door handle shut. She quickly searched through the numbers listed in the phone’s list of numbers. She didn’t know how her brother’s powers worked in this state of mind. He could probably blow the door apart into tiny pieces. She had to find Michael’s number. Then she would see if Maria’s number was still in the phone registry.

“Oh, come on, Isabel, I was kidding,” Max said in a heckling manner. He was pounding his head on the bathroom door. Isabel held her hand up, maybe she had the same powers her brother had after all. Why shouldn’t she? They were twins.

Why couldn’t she remember the number? She was the one who gave him the stupid phone against his own advice, but she had to have some sort of back up plan if things ever got out of control, like they were right now. Michael, where are you,?

“Isabel, please don’t make me use the drugs again. You’re just making this harder on yourself.” He laughed at himself.

“Oh, trust me you won’t have the chance, brother dear,” she said with anger in her voice. Finally she reached Michael’s number. Was it new or was it old? She couldn’t wait anymore. She pushed the send button, and the phone rang.

Please answer, Michael, please. It didn’t matter even if he didn’t because he now had the number logged in his caller ID,f he even knew what caller ID was. Please answer me, Michael She tried to send him thoughts but the voicemail picked up. He didn’t even record a message. She hung up. Max was almost through the door. “I hope you get brain damage.” she yelled through the pounding.

“Oh, dear sweet, sister, according to you I already have it, so what’s the difference?” He started pounding again.

Maybe he will knock himself out. Please, god, let him pass out please. Then silence. Was he getting tired? If only she could be that lucky. She started to roam through the numbers of the phones received calls. Oh thank you, thank you. She pressed the send button.

<center>*~*</center>

Maria jumped at the sound of her phone ringing. Can a girl not eat in peace? She rolled her eyes. She looked at the caller ID. It was Max. Why was Max calling her back? Wasn’t he crazy, or did he grow his brain back suddenly?

“Hello?” she picked up, wearily.

“Oh my god! Maria, thank god you answered,” Isabel said with rushed panic in her voice.

“Isabel?” Maria questioned. Darin eyed her suspiciously.

“I need you to get a hold of Michael. Max is completely insane. Maria are you sitting down? Listen to me very carefully,” she rambled.

“Wait. What’s that noise?” she stopped Isabel in mid sentence.

“Oh, that would be my insane brother trying to get through the bathroom door. I managed to get through to him, but something is seriously messed up with this entire situation.” The pounding was getting louder again.

“Tell me about it. Remember the black out and the UFO center? Well it’s that kind of crazy for me too. It’s just so off the menu,” Maria rambled.

“Off the menu?” Isabel said not comprehending.

“Geez, do I have to spell it out for you? I have this Piercing pain in my head right now.” Maria said while noticing the strange looks she got from the other customers.

“Look, I can’t get a hold of them. They are not reachable. I’ve tried and it’s a no go,” Maria rambled again, ignoring the glares from the old couple sitting across from her.

“Oh, you’re with the FBI? How did that happen?” Isabel lost all train of thought. It happened when she tried to hold a conversation with Maria.

“Well, it’ funny because well he USED to be my boyfriend and, while Michael and I aren’t together anymore, he still won’t answer my phone calls. So you’ll have to try and reach him yourself.” Talking in code was so ridiculous and frustrating.

“Maria, you’re totally flaking on me. Oh, wait. I get it the guy you were dating was or is FBI. Are you with him right now?” Isabel rambled.

“Yes, that would be a yes,” she said, saying it much quieter this time. “Oh, but don’t worry. Safe is not a word I use lightly. It will be happening soon.” Darin shot her a look that sent chills throughout her entire body, and not the good kind of chill, the bad kind of chill.

“Okay, so once your safe can you call me back; and can you please try and reach Michael or Liz again? This is important, Maria. If there is one thing you can get right, it needs to be this. Please don’t disappoint us. Be the hero. We need you,” Isabel said with exhaustion in her voice.

“I’ll do my best.” Maria felt a hand reach across the table. It jerked the phone out of her grip.

“Oh, that was just entirely stupid of you. Really I am not dense. I am FBI. How many times do I have to remind you of that scenario?” he said as though she were a small child.“Get your stuff, I’m leaving the money on the table. Don’t make any sudden movements that you’ll regret later.” he said with force, ignoring the evil looks he was getting.

“Okay, I’m coming. Chill.” Maria surrendered. She couldn’t fight him anymore.

<center>*~*</center>

Isabel leaned back against the wall that she was resting up against. She had to sit on the gross bathroom floor. It was disgusting. iiDo the maids in these places not know how to clean? Focus on the present situation. Don’t let Max make you crazy like he is.[/i] She took a couple of deep breaths, then started to look for any number that she thought looked familiar. Then she saw her father’s number. That was the sign she needed. He would be able to help her, but did she really want to get him involved? It was worth a try.

She pushed the numbers in, her forehead glazed with sweat as if she had just run a marathon. She rested her elbow on her leg. Her knees were bent. She put her hand to her forehead. The phone was on her other ear. The phone rang a couple of times and she heard a voice she thought she would never hear again.

“Daddy?” Isabel said with tears streaming down her eyes.

“Isabel?” He couldn’t believe the voice was really hers. “Honey, what’s wrong with Max? Where are you? Tell me and I’ll come get you,” her father rambled out.

“Daddy, I’m in Marathon Texas. Max is crazy. I wish I knew exactly where I was,” she said holding back her sobs. Be strong for him.

“Maria, called here asking for his phone number. I had no other choic. I had to give it to her, honey. I’m sorry. She sounded so scared, the same way you sound right now.” He paused, his joy turning to fear for his daughter’s safety.

“Daddy, I miss you so much. I am sorry I couldn’t be there for you at Mom’s funeral. Max wouldn’t let me come home,” she choked out.

“It’s okay. I know how controlling your brother can be with you,” he said, calming her down. “You all just left so suddenly that day, on his graduation, we didn’t have a chance to say goodbye.” He was now crying. He couldn’t control it any longer.

“I know we didn’t have a choice. You would have been in trouble. I’m off of 285 South, the first exit off the one before the two lane highway ends. It’s the only motel between here and Roswell, I think?” she stumbled over her words.

“Honey, hang on. I’m going to get help from Jim and Kyle. You do know Kyle is deputy now? Don’t you?” he said unsure.

“No, that is so great. Please hurry, daddy. I don’t know how much longer I can fight him off. Please hurry.” She heard a beeping sound and the battery died.

“Isabel?” her father said into the phone, but the line was dead.

“Daddy?” she said after the line went dead. “Please, get here soon.”

Isabel was filled with so many different emotions at that present moment - happy that she got to hear her father’s voice again, but fear because she didn’t know what was going to happen once he got here with Jim and Kyle. Max was still pounding against the door. It wasn’t budging and she was grateful for that. He was going to have one major headache in the morning. “Good,” she thought aloud.

“What?” Max asked, heckling through the door.

“I wasn’t talking to you, Asshole!” she screamed through the door. God, why won’t he just pass out? I need to buy some time here.

“Nobody is going to help you,” Max laughed at her.

“Oh, really? Keep thinking that!” she screamed again. Maybe someone would complain about the noise.

<center>Chapter Fourteen</center>

Liz opened her eyes. She and Michael were cuddling? She pinched herself a couple of times. Did that really happen? She lifted up the blanket and looked at her body. She was naked. What had they done? How would she ever explain it to Maria? She kept her head resting on Michael’s bare chest to ensure that she wouldn’t wake him up. It felt good to lay next to him. She couldn’t explain the feeling. It was like they were meant to be together. She felt this need to be near him.

She could feel his chest rising up and down. She could feel the beating of his heart. She could feel the warmth of his body. She could smell his scent on her. She didn’t want to move. She had to though. She had to see what time it was. Why on earth were they sleeping when things needed to be done? They had to save Isabel from Max or whatever was controlling Max.

Maria? Where was Maria? She totally forgot about Maria!

Liz took her hand and started to trace the lines of Michael’s rib cage. Maybe he would wake up without freaking out. After all, she was just as willing as he was. At least she hoped he was.

Liz lifted her head up to see that he was starting to wake up. He definitely remembered. He had a huge smile on his face. His eyes appeared to be wide open. Maybe she was still dreaming. Yeah, that was it; she was still in some really weird dream.

“Liz?” Michael was caught off guard.

“Hi.” She smiled at him.

“You let me fall asleep when we should be on the road?” He looked at her. He couldn’t stop smiling. He wasn’t exactly sure how to deal with the present situation, but he wasn’t going to make a federal case out of it either.

“I know,” she paused. They were still laying in bed. “Maria never made it here. She should have been here by now. It is way past midnight,” she said looking over at the clock that sat above the T.V.

“What?” he said with fear. “Now I’m worried.” He sat up. He was trying to be understanding. He didn’t want to upset Liz. She was now sitting up. Michael put his arm around Liz. She leaned in to his embrace. For reasons beyond their control, they couldn’t budge even though they knew that they had to get to Isabel and Maria. Something was definitely wrong.

“You know, I don’t mean to sound…” she paused choosing her words carefully. “But we need to discuss what happened earlier, and what exactly does this do to our, um…” She looked at him to finish the words for her.

“Friendshi,” he grimaced at the word. “I don’t exactly know what word to use.” he looked at her.

“I’m not sure either, but I do know that I was willing.” He put his finger to her lips, and leaned into kiss her. She didn’t stop him. It was getting more intense by the minute. Finally he stopped, but she didn’t want him to.

“Not everything has to have a reason,” he simply said. “Maybe you should check your messages. I’ll get out of bed first or you can.” He gave her a half smile.

<center>*~*</center>

“I’m taking a sheet with me,” she smirked at him. “Like you said, I should at least check my messages.” She stood up and walked over to where her purse was. She picked up the phone and the light was blinking which meant she had messages and a low battery.

Liz flipped the cell phone open. She stood there amazed. Thirty messages in one hour. “Um, Michael, you need to see this.” Liz said running back to the bed, and sitting next to him. She handed him the phone.

“Thirty messages in one hour?” he said dumbfounded

“We should have heard the phone. I had my ringer on,” Liz said with remorse.

“See what they say.”

Liz pressed the voicemail button, and her messages began to play.

Liz, Michael, I am in serious trouble here. I’m trapped with an FBI mad man. You remember DARIN, don’t you? Well, he’s not exactly the perfect dream guy I imagined him to be. It turns out he was really living a double life the entire time. You guys need to watch your back. Get out of there as soon as possible, but please be careful. The message ended.

Hey, Liz, its ‘Ria again. Look, I’m trapped at this diner. I just talked to Kyle and he said something about the state police coming to get me. I talked to Max and wel,l let’s just say he’s totally, well, crazy, but I’m not sure that crazy would even describe him. The message ended.

Where are you? I’m starting to worry, I’m going to have to go back to Darin otherwise he is going to think I’m trying to call for help and then, well, we don’t want to find out. I think he worked with Pierce in the Special unit at some point because, Liz, he is acting all crazy, too. Is it something in the air? Can you guys please call me back like NOW? The message ended.

Liz, this is totally not funny anymore. I am still in the bathroom. I told the waitress to let him know my stomach was acting up so I bought myself some more time in this dump of bathroom. Please hurry. Kyle hasn’t called me back yet. The message ended.

Liz, I just can’t wait any longer. He’s going to get suspicious. I think I’ve been in here for a long time, at least it feels like its been a long time. Chica, you need to call me back like ASAP. Remember me, your best friend, and the whole Dion Warwick Psychic chatline that we were going to start,? I can’t do that. Her phone died.

“Great,” Liz said with death in her voice. “Michael, she’s in trouble. What are we going to do?”

“We’re getting out of here now. She told us to be careful. He probably bugged your apartment, and whatever else he could fit a bug into.” Michael said getting out of bed and getting dressed. Liz just sat there, tears were falling down her face.

Michael walked over to her. “Listen, this isn’t your fault. It’s no ones fault okay? Nothing is going to happen to her. I promise you.” He bent down in front of Liz who was still wrapped in her sheet. “Look at me.” He lifted her chin up.

“I know, it’s just…” She looked at him her eyes full of fear. “I need to get dressed.” She stood up, and he watched her as she walked into the bathroom to change.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael looked at the clock. It was 3 am. How could they not hear the phone ringing? The volume was on high. Something was definitely messing with them, and he believed it was Tess or someone she was associated with. But he knew Tess was dead, so how could it be her. Nothing made sense anymore.

“Kivar. But why after all this time?” he said to himself.

Kivar needed and wanted the heir to the King of Antar. It obviously had something to do with that. Maybe that was what Isabel was trying to tell them. Max had gone crazy and had some kind of control over Isabel and now she can’t reach us. Somehow she knew that Liz and I were together. That was just weird.

He heard the bathroom door open. Liz was fully dressed and ready to go. She didn’t want to wait any longer. If they left now they had a decent chance at getting away from the FBI.

Michael walked over to her and hugged her tightly. He needed her to know that this wasn’t her fault. He truly cared about her, what happened to them earlier was not mind control. Maybe they were being helped into the situation but the rest was all of them. Passion like that doesn’t exist in a dream.

Liz looked up at him. “Michael?” Before she could say anything else he leaned in and kissed her. She felt his tongue part her lips and again they shared a passionate kiss, as if they had never kissed before this moment. Liz had to pull away. They couldn’t get side tracked again.

“Let’s go,” she said, as they stopped kissing.

“Um, question. Where are we going?” he asked as they headed out to the car.

Liz stopped and the tears started to form in her eyes. “Please, lets just get out of here and the sooner the better,” she said throwing her stuff into the trunk of the car.

“I agree, but we need a plan of some sort,” Michael stood firm on his decision. He touched the green car, and it was now a midnight blue. He waved his hand over the license plate, and the numbers changed. That would help for a little while. But Maria said they knew about their alien status.

Michael got in the car, and started the engine. Liz pushed the CD in the player. It was Metallica. She didn’t care anymore about the music on the radio. This was helping her calm down. It looked like it was also helping Michael as well. He looked at her and smirked. “So, did she say where they were?”

“They were on there way to some safe house. I think maybe somewhere in Washington DC?” Liz said unsure of her answer.

“Don’t you get flashes of the future?” He looked back to the road.

“I did at one time, but Michael that was a long time ago, I haven’t even gotten one since you guys left on Graduation day,” she said with remorse.

<center>Chapter Fifteen</center>

Maria was forced into the car. She never knew Darin to be so rough. He sat in the red Mustang and slammed the driver door shut. He picked up his cell phone and dialed a number. He didn’t even look at her. “Plans changed. We’re going to the dome. We should be there shortly.” He spoke into the phone, then hung up.

“Dome?” Maria should have kept her mouth shut, but she always spoke before thinking.

“Yes, I think you know what dome I’m talking about. It’s where you and Michael had your first night in a motel room, where Michael defied his King’s orders to stay put until the decision was made as a group.

Maria froze how. Could he possibly know anything about that? She looked away from him. She didn’t know what to say. There was a first time for everything. “Oh Maria, you humans are so pathetic. I guess the rumor is true you only do use one percent of your brains.” He smirked.

“Uh, I’m suddenly not feeling very good. Could you please pull over?” She insisted but he didn’t respond to her.

“Sorry, we’ve wasted a lot of time already and, well, I follow orders, unlike those pathetic Royal Jokes,” Kivar hissed to himself, taking pure pleasure in watching her squirm. “And let me just tell you how good of a lover you are. I’d like it to stay that way. It would be such a pity to waste such a beautiful body, oh and that talent you have.” He licked his lips and reached for her leg moving his hand up her dress.

Maria tried to push his hand away, but he just looked at her, his eyes turning black like marbles. He flashed her a smile, then his eyes turned back to normal.

“It can’t be? How on earth?” Maria bit her lip. “Sorry, I know how you aliens hate that expression.” Maria didn’t realize that she had bitten through her lip. Blood started dripping down her chin.

“Let me.” Kivar went to reach his hand to heal her but Maria pushed it away.

“Not in this lifetime, and unlike you aliens I only plan on living this life once.” She smirked.

“Such a pity,” he laughed to himself. “Your loss, not mine. You’ll be all alone while the others are whisked away to their home planet.”

“Yeah okay. Whatever.” She looked away. “Max, Michael and Isabel won’t be so willing to leave on their own,” she hissed back at him.

“You know I like my woman feisty. It makes the sex a whole lot more interesting. And you forgot one person in your little speech.” He waited for her to look at him. He wanted to see the remorse in her face. “Elizabeth Parker,” he smirked watching Maria’s eyes open wide.

“I guess humans aren’t the only ones who go insane,” Maria spouted back.

Kivar smirked. “On my planet, insane would be a compliment.” He searched her eyes, controlling the car with his mind.

Maria just looked at him like he had no limbs attached to his body.

“I think its time we gave your little friends a phone call.” He picked up his cell phone and started to dial a number.

“Good luck trying to get through. They won’t answer. I’ve tried.” Maria looked out the window.

“You forget we insane aliens have our own special way of getting what we want, no matter what the cost.” He heard ringing.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael and Liz were driving towards Washington D.C. when Liz heard her phone ring. “Okay, now that is impossible. I know my battery died,” she said picking the phone up from her purse, which was lying on the floor of the car in front her.

She picked it up and it had Darin’s number in the caller ID. “It’s Maria or at least its her boyfriend,” Liz said noticing Michael squirm at the mention of his name. Liz felt a slight twinge of jealousy.

“Don’t answer it,” he said bluntly.

“I can’t just ignore it. Maria could be in some danger. Darin might know something.” The phone rang again. Liz had the song ‘How you remind me’ by Nickelback as her ring tone.

Liz answered with curiosity. “Hello?” she said quizzically.

“Oh, yes, if it isn’t the infamous Liz Parker. Tell me, how is your drive to Washington DC?” he smirked.

“Uh, Darin?” she said dumbfounded.

“Oh, I think you know better than that, Ms. Parker, or is it Mrs. Guerin?” he chuckled like a cackling idiot.

“Excuse me. Who is this?” She stopped, then looked at Michael, whom had now pulled the car over to the side of the freeway. “Kivar,” her instincts had told her so.

“And the girl gets a prize. What should it be - your friend Maria in one piece or sent back in a package?” he waited for Liz to respond.

Michael was getting irritated. He finally grabbed the phone from her. “Listen you smug son of Bitch! Nobody threatens Maria, no ONE!”

“Oh, wel,l if it isn’t the second in command, Rath. Tell me, are you just as delinquent in this life as you were in the last life? Tell me, how is Vilandra doing these days?”

“What do you want you BASTARD,” he yelled, not backing down. Liz just looked at him full of fear.

<center>*~*</center>

Isabel sat on the bathroom floor praying that Max would turn back to his old self. She saw flashing lights outside through the bathroom’s tiny window. Unfortunately, not even her powers could open the window. It must have been more for decoration then for actual air.

“Isabel, are you ever coming out of there?” Max said sounding like himself again.

“Max?” Isabel questioned careful not to fall for some stupid mind game he might be trying to pull on her.

“Who else would I be?” he said feeling his headache from the pounding of the door.

“I don’t know if I can trust you,” she said bluntly.

“You can always trust me, Iz, I promise you that.” He then noticed the sirens outside They were flashing rather brightly. There had to be more then one.

“Well, you know what? I’m not gonna play sitting duck anymore. Help is here and if you try anything Sheriff Valenti will shoot you.” She snickered to herself. She was worn out and just emotionally exhausted from battling Sybil.

“Why would you say something like that, Iz? I promised I wouldn’t hurt you. Isn’t my word good enough anymore?”

“Not really. It’s a long story and I refuse to explain it when I’m stuck inside this hell hole of a bathroom,” she hissed. The ice queen was back. Isabel heard knocking on the front door. She was filled with hope and she hadn’t felt hope in a long time. “MAX, open the door now!” he heard Sheriff Valenti yell through the door. Max was a bit confused. He had no idea why the Sheriff was yelling at him with such hostility. “Max, don’t make me ask you again!” The sheriff yelled again. Kyle stood behind his father getting ready to shoot if he had to.

<center>Chapter Sixteen</center>

Max stood in the motel room. How did he get there? He was so confused and to top it off his head hurt really bad. He looked at the bathroom door and saw that it had been dented in. Then he heard Isabel calling his name. She sounded frantic. What was going on and why was Sheriff Valenti outside yelling at him to open the door?

Max walked over to the bathroom door and used his powers to open it because the doorknob was melted together by Isabel, a power she new she had, but she didn’t know to what extent they could be used. He saw his sister cowering on the ground. She wouldn’t look at him. He reached his hand out to help her up but she refused. Then he heard the Sheriff shoot at the front door, startling both Isabel and Max.

Max just looked at his sister in shock, “Isabel, why are you afraid of me?” He looked at her with the same helpless look that he had on his face when they were sitting on the side of the road. She stood up and the two were now standing in the middle of the motel room surrounded by Sheriff Valenti, Kyle and a few other police officers. They had their guns pointed at Max.

Isabel saw her father. He was standing outside the motel room. He had a hopeful look on his face. He was also confused by everything. He wanted to know why Max was holding his sister hostage. Isabel so desperately wanted to run to him and hug him. She needed to be near her father. “Max, what is going on here? You’re going to need to explain this to me or I’m going to have to take you in.” Sheriff Valenti spoke calmly but he was also agitated.

“Sheriff, I’m just as confused as you are. One minute I was in my room, the next minute I was driving down 285 south. I don’t know how else to explain this.” He sat down on the edge of the bed. He rested his elbow on his knee and then rested his chin into the palm of his hand.

“Isabel, are you okay? Have you been hurt?” The sheriff walked over to her. He rested one hand on her shoulder.

“I’m confused like everyone else. I’ll be okay. Can I see my father?” Her eyes watered with fresh tears.

“I guess that will be okay, but I’m going to need some more information from you.” He moved out of the way so she could leave the crowded motel room. She ran to her father and they embraced. She let go of all the emotions she was holding onto for so long.

“It will be okay now, Honey. I promise.” He just held her he would ask questions when the dust settled.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael sat in the driver’s seat. He was yelling at Kivar. Why had he waited so long to try to contact them again, and why was he doing it this way? He couldn’t have just contacted them by some other means. He refused to let him hurt Maria or threaten her. Of course he had already threatened her but it would be last time as far as Michael was concerned.

Liz sat in the passenger seat. She was stunned. She was also confused as to why he had called her Mrs. Guerin. She wanted an explanation and if Kivar was behind their sexual encounter she would kill him, not that she didn’t enjoy that moment with Michael. It meant something more to her then just a fling, and she knew from the flashes that it meant more to him as well. He, of course, would be protective of Maria. They had a long history together. She wouldn’t take that away from him. She would support his efforts.

Her alien powers were getting stronger and she didn’t understand why or how. Maybe it was because Kivar was on earth. Or mabye it was the fact that she had sex with Michael, and it sparked her powers to awaken. Either way she was getting all these new abilities.

She wouldn’t tell Michael because he had enough to deal with right now. She was worried about her friend being held captive by a mad man, and she was also worried about Isabel, but for some reason she knew that Isabel was alright. She, again, didn’t know how or why she knew this; she just knew it.

“I won’t ask you again, you Son of a bitch. What do you want? I’ll meet you anywhere, anytime. Leave Maria out of this. She’s innocent. She has nothing to do with me anymore.”

“So poetic,” he paused, “but won’t Liz get jealous of your heroic efforts towards Maria? Your sweet, precious Maria is now a part of this. It won’t be that easy, my dear puppet. You will meet us at the dome. Be prepared for the show down of your life. Oh, and I won’t be alone.” He hung up.

Michael must have looked pale; Liz noticed this after he violently threw her phone to the floor of the car.

“Michae,l what did he say?” Of course that was a stupid question. She knew what was wrong.

“We have to go to Atherton’s dome.” He cupped his face in has hands and rubbed his tired eyes. He then looked at Liz. He didn’t realize how scared she was. He reached for her hand and she gladly took it. He squeezed her hand to let her know that he was there for her.

“Are we going? Should we somehow get ahold of Isabel?” Liz rambled off these crazy options. She was scared. She didn’t know what else to do.

“I don’t know.” He paused, staring straight into her eyes. “We will think of something. We have to.” In that instance he knew that he and Liz were going to end up together, after all of this was said and done, even though their sexual encounter was some sort of mind game from Kivar. The feelings that remained were all his. He knew that Kivar could not possibly control his feelings.

Michael, again, looked at Liz. She stared intensely right back at him. He leaned over, placing his free hand behind her neck. He needed to feel her again. It would make this entire situation seem less complicated. He kissed her so passionately, as if they were going to be separated for a long time.

<center>*~*</center>

Maria looked at Kivar. She was sickened by him. He was a freak. He was disgusting. She wanted out of the car. There was absolutely nothing she could do. She was stuck with the alien from hell. Was Antar hell? If it wasn’t, they would have to do a good job of making her believe otherwise, because as far as she was concerned the devil himself was inhabiting her boyfriend’s body.

She was so disgusted with herself. She slept with Michael’s number one enemy. Hey, it wasn’t her fault. How was she supposed to know that Kivar was inside of her boyfriend? She should have known that something was off because he went from being gentle and caring to forceful and demanding in the matter of one day. He was also using Tabasco sauce on all of his food, and it wasn’t over night that she noticed it.

In fact, there had been Tabasco sauce on the table when they were they were at the bar that night. He also used it on his pizza that night when they ordered it because they were so hungry from... Eww! That thought made her literally cringe. She then noticed Kivar staring at her.

“What?” she said in an angry tone. “Why don’t you ake a picture. It will last longer.”

“You know what? You should just accept your new destiny, because you aren’t getting out of this. And, well, your boyfriend… oh wait, I’m sorry, your ex-boyfriend…” he put emphasis on ‘ex’, “well it seems that he has moved on with Liz. Isn’t she your best friend?” he said with a weird tone in his voice.

“Your lying. Liz would never sleep with Michael.” She watched his facial expressions.

“Well, sweet pea, I’m afraid to tell you that you are wrong. She wasn’t such a good friend after al,l now was she?” He smirked.

“Why should I believe anything you say? After all, you are insane and you’re just trying to make me think that they did something so I will go willingly with you. Well, you are sadly mistaken. You will not change my mind,” she said with annoyance in her voice.

“You can think what you want, and you can live in denial all you want, but the truth is they did horizontal tango and you are going to have to accept that sooner or later,” he said in a matter of fact tone. He wasn’t letting up on her. If he had to, he would mind warp her into going with them. He couldn’t leave any survivors behind on earth that knew about their existence.

He liked Maria. She was different than most earth girls. She had spunk and he liked that. He would eventually make her see the truth but it would take a lot of persuading. That or a simple mind warp. They had an hours drive left until they reached the dome. He had given Larek specific instructions on what images to leave behind in Max’s pea shaped brain.

<center>*~*</center>

As Liz was kissing Michael, she could feel his hands roaming her body. It felt entirely to good to make him stop. As this was happening, she felt a surge of energy hit her body, and flashes emerged in her mind. She could see Sheriff Valenti, Kyle, and Isabel with her father. Max was handcuffed and standing next to the Sheriff’s jeep. Then she saw Maria and Darin, but she got the feeling that Darin wasn’t really Darin. In fact she was beginning to believe that Kivar had taken over his body.

Without stopping Michael from what he was doing, she simply told him what she was seeing. His mind was elsewhere. It was almost as if he wanted to forget what ever else was going on around him. He just wanted to be near Liz. He needed to feel her again.

“Michael,” Liz stated again, “I know this is going to sound like I want you to stop and believe me I don’t want you to…” his hand was now going up her leg, underneath her skirt.

“Then what?” he said.

“Just that, well, I want this. I really do.” His lips stopped her from finishing her sentence. She lost all train of thought and let him finish. Her hands went up his shirt and she started to massage his chest. They somehow maneuvered to the back seat. He touched the windows and turned them from clear to a dark tint. Good thing nobody was on the road, otherwise they might have gotten a ticket for indecent exposure.

Liz positioned herself on top of Michael. He no longer had his pants on and she was nearly naked. They were almost sitting. Almost as if they were in unison, they started to make love again. Michael needed this right now. He needed to forget what was taking place. He just wanted to be near Liz again.

His hands moved up and down her back. He lightly massaged her. She did the same to his back and this made him move faster and harder. He knew they had to get to the dome, but he didn’t want to stop. He was also receiving flashes. He saw them of Maria and her so called boyfriend; they were driving at a high speed. They were close to the dome. He knew Maria was in danger. It was as if he was addicted to Liz, but it was more then that, in a sense he loved her.

<center>Chapter Seventeen</center>

Maria had another plan to escape, but the plan wasn’t full proof and she was with one of the most dangerous aliens known to them. He was psycho in every form of the word, and he would kill to protect himself. She was a mere distraction to him and he would kill her if he thought she was a threat in any way.

DeLuca, you’ve come close to escaping. Think you can do this. Think about what Sean would do if he was in the position. Okay, maybe that wasn’t such a good thought. He would probably fight his way out of this physically and get himself killed. Plan A has been scratched from the list As she was thinking she felt a hand going up her leg again. She was ready to elbow him in the face but that would just piss him off and he would retaliate.

She remembered Isabel’s plea for help. Be the hero in this. We need you to do one thing right. This has to be it. Maria please be the hero. Okay, as if that wasn’t enough pressure in itself, what was she going to do? They were at the dome. She could try and hide but that would put other people in danger. She couldn’t risk it.

“So, were you telling me the truth when you said Liz and Michael had sex?” She cringed literally at the thought; it made her skin crawl. He smiled at her again using his mind to drive the car, the car drove itself to a secluded area around the dome. She didn’t see anyone else there yet.

“Why would I lie?” He paused, smirking. He was finally getting to her. “There is a way for you to see for yourself.” He touched her face gently and she turned to look at him.

“Okay, now, I’m trusting you to not melt my brain or anything alien like that. Is that so much to ask of you?” She looked and tears started to form.

He took his finger and wiped them away, “If you agree to come with me, I won’t hurt you.” He waited for her to answer.

“Okay, then I trust you. Show me,” she instructed him. She would just pretend he was Darin. She was beginning to wonder where Darin was.

“I’ll be gentle. No worries, Love.”

They turned to face each other. He gently pulled her into a kiss. She lost herself in the kiss, then all of these flashes started to pour into her mind. She was careful to not buy into any false images. She could tell by what her instincts told her, and what she saw sickened her to the point of wanting to vomit. Was she seeing Antar for the first time? This was all so surreal. The last time she saw flashes was when Michael thought he was leaving in the Granilith.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael and Liz were dressed and sitting in the front seat. He wouldn’t let go of her hand. He was so afraid that she would somehow slip away into the night and never be seen again. “We need to get going. We need to get Maria away from that psycho.”

Liz massaged her thumb in his palm. He was tense. He needed to relax. They had been on the road to no where, and they were both exhausted.

“Maybe I should drive. Getting killed on the way to the dome won’t help anyone.” He smiled at her concern, and lightly kissed her as if he were saying goodbye.

“I guess that would be fine. I am not in the mood to argue with anyone.” He opened the car door. Liz slid over and adjusted the driver seat to fit her form.

As Michael was walking to the passenger side of the car, Liz received flashes from Maria? That is new. How was Maria sending her flashes? All she could see was that Maria was freaking out inside and that they were at the destination Kivar was so eager to get to. Why was it so important for him to have everyone at the Dome? Her body tensed and she started to shake physically. Michael opened the car door, and saw that Liz was in distress.

“Liz,” he said as he quickly got into the passenger seat. He didn’t know what was happening to her. He was scared. All he could do was wait until the episode was over. Then Liz was calm she opened her eyes and looked at Michael.

“Maria’s is at the dome with Dar- I mean Kivar. She is in trouble Michael!” As if that wasn’t already obvious to both of them, Liz just had physical evidence of that. “I somehow got flashes from her. That’s never happened before. Maria isn’t capable of sending them,” Liz said with fear that was evident in her voice.

“We need to get going. Are you sure you are ready to drive?” Michael reached over to caress her face. She kissed his palm. “Yes, I’m fine.” She started the car and they made their way towards 285 South.

<center>*~*</center>

Isabel couldn’t stand the fact that Max was in handcuffs but it was for everyone’s safety, and her father had no idea that they were different. In fact, now was as good a time as any to tell him about who they really were. She couldn’t stand lying to the only person who loved her unconditionally.

Jim walked over to Isabel. Kyle was standing next to her trying to give her any comfort that he could. He knew that trouble was still waiting for them. He needed to tell Isabel that they somehow needed to get Max, and head towards Atherton’s dome. He wasn’t aware that he had any special abilities but it made sense, and he knew that something wasn’t right.

“Dad, I know you want to keep Max in handcuffs but we need to get to Atherton’s Dome. Don’t ask me how I know any of this; I just do,” he said hoping his father would believe him. He was being sucked into the alien abyss again and he wasn’t prepared.

Isabel was caught off guard by Kyle’s new founded ability. “Are you sure that is safe Kyle? Max can still be dangerous.” She looked at him she was filled with so many different emotions at this point.

“Well, we will just use the drug on him that he used on you. Paybacks are a bitch, aren’t they?” he smirked.

She smiled, holding back a laugh, “If you think you can handle him, but why the Dome? That’s where Max said he wanted to go.” She waited for him to explain.

“Ah, see I got you to smile,” he smirked. “Being serious, well, I just have this strange feeling that we need to go there.” He couldn’t explain what the feeling was.

Isabel somehow understood him “I think he’s right Sheriff. We need to get to the Dome, I think Maria is in some trouble and I don’t want anything to happen to her.”

“If you kids think this is necessary. Do you want me to call for some back up?” Jim looked at the kids with concern.

“You know we can’t let that happen. This would be to hard to explain to anyone. They would lock us up in some loony bin,” Kyle said with concern for Maria.

“I know your right son, but I’m going to have to let Mr. Evans know what’s going on and why this is so important. You know he won’t take any more half ass explanations,” Jim said with panic in his voice.

“He’s been pulled into this. His wife was murdered by one of these aliens. He has every right to know what is going on. Isabel I think you should tell your father the truth about who you and Max really are. I’ll make sure its safe.” Jim looked at her with pleading eyes.

“I agree,” Isabel said. She noticed that Max was glaring at her. She felt threatened, and to top it off he was sending her sharp shrilled chills to go with his icy glares. He did learn something from her. “Kyle, I think the drug is a good idea. Max isn’t so well right now,” she said in her princess tone.

“Yes, Ma’am.” Kyle saluted her, and walked towards the black truck.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael watched as Liz concentrated on the road. He kept flashing back to the motel room. He was trying to remember what the flashes were telling him. They were jumbled, split apart and then put back together. All he could muster from them was the fact that Kivar and Larek were working together. He didn’t know why, but then something sparked the Granilith. The Granilith disappeared when Tess took off in it. How and why would they come for it again, knowing full well that Max would never give it to them?

He thought about possible other reasons for them taking control of every one around them. Why Maria? He would never understand. Was Kivar just grasping at straws? Whatever he was doing, Michael needed an answer and soon. If he knew Kivar, Maria wouldn’t last long. She was a pawn of some sort. He was using her and then he would throw her away like a rag doll.

He was using her, but why? It didn’t make sense. Kivar had put some kind of power over Liz and him. The truth was, the feelings were already there. Alien powers or not, he couldn’t use Kivar as his excuse anymore. They were just some part of his sick and twisted plan. It was driving him crazy. He needed to know what the plan was.

“Why do you think they are after us?” He looked at Liz. He hit the dashboard of the old car. He was lucky it didn’t break in half. The car was an old piece of shit anyway.

“Why? Michael, who knows?” She glanced at him, then back to the road. They weren’t far from 285. “They obviously aren’t telling us what they want for a reason. They are using the people we care about as leverage for something.” She stopped.

“Leverage for what? What like they are blackmailing us?” He looked at her confused.

“You could say that.” She glanced at him again.

“We don’t have anything they could possibly want.” He shrugged in disappointment.

“Maybe its not a ‘thing’ they want; maybe they want ‘us’.” She frowned, not liking that scenario.

Michael thought about it. It made sense. Their plans were messed up when Max turned them down at the Summit. Max said that when he found Tess, she wasn’t the same, that something had happened to her, which made him believe that is why she killed Alex.

She was given an opportunity to bring them to Antar: the king, the heir and the queen. It sounded like a twisted game of cards. When Tess followed through on her part, she was to convince the royal four to come back with her to Antar, and Kivar would then have his revenge. It didn’t work once again. Tess went back alone. Correction, she had the heir. The heir was too human. Kivar’s plan was messed up once again.

Tess came to back to warn Max about Kivar’s plan. She had the baby. She said that the baby was too human and Kivar was going to kill the child. So Tess escaped, which meant they had another form of transportation. That was evident. How else would she have gotten back? They obviously didn’t want the Granilith. Liz had to be right, Kivar needed them to come back to Antar. Michael didn’t like this. He didn’t like it one bit.

Then his worst fear came to mind. Were they using Liz and him to make a baby and somehow claim that it was the heir, because they were both alien in some form or another. Maybe Kivar was hoping that Liz would get pregnant, and then somehow pass the baby off as the heir to Antar. Could that be possible?

“Michael are you okay?” He looked as though he had seen a ghost. “I think I figured out what they want.” He just looked at her, his eyes were wide open. His jaw felt like it had lost all its function.

“What?” She looked at his facial expression. She was more then concerned.

“I’ll tell you when we stop.” He had to think. He had to be rational when he told her. This was all starting to make sense. But why wouldn’t he just possess Max? He would have a better chance at getting the real heir. Why pass off a baby that wasn’t the real heir? Michael made himself stop. He couldn’t think like this. He would drive himself crazy.

A/N sorry it took so long to update, thanks to all the people who left feedback it helps to know what you think I appreciate it> and thanks to kathy for helping me sort through some ideas with the next few chapters..

<center>Chapter Eighteen</center>

Max watched with anger as Isabel talked with Sheriff Valenti. He knew very
well what she was up to and he wouldn’t let her expose them to another
person. He also knew that Kivar was ready to either dispose of the people
who knew the aliens existed or he would make them go with them. He hoped
Kivar had a big enough space ship to fit everybody.

The one thing Max was well aware of - even in the midst of the craziness -
was that Larek was possessing him mind, body and soul. He was starting to
see what he was really up against: Kivar was evil and he would stop at
nothing to get what he wanted. The only problem was Max had no idea what
Kivar wanted.

Max was put in the middle of all of this without knowing what he was
actually getting into. He kept seeing flashes of Liz and Michael together.
He knew they had done the deed, and for some reason it didn’t bother him all
that much. He thought he would want to kill Michael and punish Liz for
their actions, but it didn’t phase him. He was too worried about being
possessed again. At least he knew what was happening now. He used his
powers to loosen the cuffs. He saw a gun laying on the drivers seat of the
Jeep. He reached inside and grabbed it.

Who could he take as a hostage? They already thought he was crazy. Why not
prove to them that he actually was? Kyle was without his gun. He must have
set it down. Too bad for Kyle. He was going with them to the Dome, which
was where Isabel and the rest of them needed to be. How would he do this?
He wasn’t a mastermind; that’s for sure. He started to wonder why he was
ever the king of an entire planet. It didn’t make sense to him.

He shook off his misconceptions and proceeded with his plans. He eyed Kyle,
which prompted a curious Kyle to see what the crazy boy wanted. Kyle
proceeded with caution, and before he could turn to warn the others, Max had
put the gun to his back.

“Don’t make any sudden movements,” he whispered into Kyle’s ear.

“You really don’t want to do this,” Kyle grunted with anger.

“Oh, and why not?” Max said with a taunting in his voice.

“Because deep down you’re not crazy. Something is happening to you.” Kyle
grunted again, Max was jabbing the gun into his side.

“Oh, well, the jury is still hopelessly dead locked on that verdict. We
will see soon.” Max pushed Kyle into the car.

“Next, we’re getting Isabel and your father, and were going to the Dome.”
His voice cut through Kyle’s ears like nails on a chalkboard. Kyle knew he
was defenseless.

<center>*~*</center>

Maria and had almost forgotten that she was kissing Kivar instead of Darin.
She started to pull away from him. He was smirking at her while still
kissing her. He had healed her lip while they were kissing. He knew she
had no idea and because his powers were so strong, her residual effects
would happen soon. His plan was beginning to work.

Soon, Maria would be like the rest of the hybrids. He planned everything,
from Michael and Liz to Tess’s disappearing act. Little did everyone know
that she wasn’t dead. In fact, she was just the opposite. She had little
Zan and they were safely on Antar. Max thought that giving him up for
adoption would keep him safe… well, only if he didn’t fall into the wrong
arms.

He would never kill a relative. Even if he was human, right now.
Eventually he would change, and he couldn’t let some stranger find out the
truth about their existence on earth. So, he helped Tess even though she
ruined his first attempt at getting what he truly wanted - the throne, the
heir and all the power and glory that went with it. Since he couldn’t have
his own child, he would find someone who could. That’s what Michael and Liz
were for.

“Stop.” Maria finally broke free from his grasp. She looked at him
confused, and then felt her lip; the mark was gone.

“It will only be a matter of time before your powers begin to work,” Kivar
said with a smile.

“You had no right,” she hissed at him.

“There’s just one catch now; we are linked forever. I gave you a new life
with these powers. I own you now.” He smirked.

Okay, this boy has been sniffing the coffee beans a little too long,
because he said something that couldn’t possibly be true. I can’t have
powers, can I? All I had was a little cut. It was minor.

“I don’t believe you,” she said with her eyes welling up.

“Now, now, there is no need to cry, my love,” he said as he wiped the tears
from her eyes. “Soon you will be like your friend Liz and there is nothing
you can do about it.” He got out of the driver’s side. He started towards
the dome.

Maria, she heard his voice in her mind, and felt drawn to him.

<center>*~*</center>

Michael could see the dome in the distance. He felt strange. He couldn’t
place the feeling. He looked over at Liz and she had fear in her eyes, that
much was evident. Beyond that she was telling him everything he needed to
know.

“What is it?” Michael said in a demanding tone.

“Michael, I think we should wait until we get there.” She kept her eyes on
the road.

“We can’t lie to each other. We have to trust each other. If we lie to
each other that bastard will win.” Michael grabbed her hand.

“Michael, what’s wrong with you?” She felt his grip get tighter.

“I don’t know. Something is really wrong.” He looked at her with loss in
his eyes.

“It’s going to be fine. Look, the dome is right up ahead. It won’t be to
much longer,” Liz said trying to reassure him.

The closer they got to the dome the faster the images came to Liz’s mind.
Maria was walking towards the dome, but something was terribly wrong with
her. She wasn’t herself. She was following Kivar inside the dome. She
flinched and it made Michael jump, and he wasn’t easily scared.

“Liz, don’t lie to me,” he said in a demanding tone.

“Maria, is in trouble. She’s changed Michael.” Liz hunched over the
steering wheel as she pulled on to the desert road.

Michael definitely didn’t like the sound of change. He saw the mountains or
small rock formation that sat behind the dome. The sun was beginning to
rise, which was funny because he didn’t remember that it was morning. He
looked down at his wardrobe. He had been wearing the same ragged jeans that
he’d had on since he found Liz in Cambridge. The shirt he had on had also
seen better days; it was one of his long sleeve black Metallica shirts.

Why was he thinking about his wardrobe when he needed to be thinking about
the current situation? Liz snapped him out of his daze. “Michael,” she
said calmly almost to calm for his liking. Was she doing that autopilot
thing she did when she got scared and didn’t know what else to do.

Then for some reason, he noticed her outfit. She was wearing a skirt that
sat a few inches above her knees, and a spaghetti strap tank top that
matched the purple on her skirt, and she had those flip flops that had the
thick soles on them. He remembered calling her Frankenstein back in Roswell.

He heard her call his name again. “Sorry,” he muttered. He looked up to
find that they were at the dome, the long anticipated location that seemed
to have Kivar in some sort of weird frenzy. Why was this so important? He
then wondered if there was some invisible ship hovering over the partly
cloudy skies that nobody could see.

“Maria’s here,” Liz said as if she had seen it for herself.

“What if this is a trap? I mean what if they are pulling us into some weird
trap, and we are all going to die?” Michael was rambling like Maria did when
she was nervous.

“I don’t care if it is. I have powers Michael. I can help Maria. The two of
us together are powerful. Don’t you remember?” She looked at him once the
car was completely turned off. “We can do this. If we lose faith in our
abilities then we might as well just give ourselves to him. Do you want to
just give up and let Maria die?”

“Powers.” He paused as if he had just taken a hit of acid. “I know that,
but you don’t have control over them yet,” he said in a matter of fact tone.

“I haven’t exactly been telling you the truth about that.”

He looked at her. “I know.” He looked down at his lap. “You can do that
weird thing, like leave your body when your still awake. You can see the
future, blah blah blah.”

Liz looked at him. “I’m sorry, but there is more to it then that.” She was
worried about how he was acting.

Michael looked around at his surroundings. Dust, dust and more dust. He
was suddenly thirsty from seeing all of it. He saw the shiny reflection of
the sun come off of the dome’s shield. He remembered when he drew that
stupid thing. His art teacher must have thought he was crazy. “Like what?”
he said not wanting to believe anything in the present moment was reality.

“Well, I can see things, like past events. I can see them like I was
actually there reliving them. I also have empathy, which means…” She
stopped and looked at Michael’s face. He was pale.

“Liz, I know what empathy means,” he said in a low voice. He had to face
this. “There is something I haven’t told you. Remember when we were on the
side of highway? Well, I came to the realization that Kivar has something
in mind for us. Those intimate moments that happened between us? Well,
they happened for a reason. It was part of some kind of game. Kivar made
them happen.” He watched as the emotion drained from her face.

“That may be true, but I know you felt something when it happened. He can’t
manipulate the way people feel towards each other. He can only manipulate
they way people act physically.” She had anger in her voice.

“I’m not trying to hurt you. I really do care for you. I do, but you need
to know what he wants from us.” He took her hand in his. He touched her
pale stricken face and turned her to face him. “He wants us to have a
child. He can’t have his own so he has steal someone else’s.” He paused.
“He wants to steal ours.”

Liz reached for the door handle of the car. She opened it and as she did
this she released Michael’s hand with force. She got out of the car and
slammed the door shut. Michael was shocked. He didn’t know what was wrong
with her. He quickly got out of the car and went to her, before she did
something crazy.

“Liz, will you hear me out?” he grabbed her arm to stop her.

“Michael, I’m not even pregnant. He was unsuccessful!” She yelled at him,
trying to deny his words. Her life had been ruined once again by the alien
chaos. “I’m not ready to have a child,” she said with animosity, the
ever-rising anger was present in each word that left her mouth. She wanted
to hit something. She wanted to run. She wanted to forget that Michael
Guerin, Isabel Evans, and Max Evans ever existed.

Michael grabbed her and pulled her into a hug. She started to lightly hit
his chest. She knew he was strong enough to take it. Her tiny fists were
balled up and she needed to let out her frustrations, but as she was lightly
hitting him a flash of Hank went through her mind and she stopped. She
looked at him as if to say she was sorry. The tears streamed down her face,
but Michael just took his finger and placed it on her lips. She slowly
backed away from him and aimed her hand at the closest thing possible.

A small rock was in front of her and she aimed at it. All the anger she had
in her system sparked and the rock that once sat a few feet in front of her
was no more. It exploded into dust. It didn’t help her. She was angry;
she needed to release more or someone was going to get hurt.

“Michael, you need to go get Maria,” Liz said without turning around to look
at him.

“Liz, I’m not leaving you out here,” he said with worry at the tone in her
voice. He was actually amazed at the level of power she had just shown him.
He had also noticed that her hands were sparking to life once again, they
were trickling with green electricity. “Liz, let’s go inside. Save this
for Kivar,” he said, trying to stay calm. The dust around them was starting
to pick up That’s funny. Ie don’t remember feeling the wind earlier.
“Uh Liz, you have to control your emotions. Trust me,” Michael said,
reaching for her hand.

“I can’t. I’ll hurt you. Just please stay away from me.” She asked him
again.

“Liz, this is what he wants. You’re giving Kivar what he wants. He’s going
to be able to control your mind You’re giving him the choice. Fight it.
Fight him.” He stepped closer, but the wind picked up. Her emotions were
so out of control.

“Michael, I’m warning you. Stay away.” She looked at him, pleading him to
go; her eyes were black.

Kyle was now handcuffed and sitting in the black Jeep. The yellow and brown
Sheriff decal was on both sides of it. He was seriously pissed at Max and
wished that he could somehow warn his Father and Isabel to stay away. Kyle
franticly looked around for Isabel, but she was off in the distance in what
looked like a serious conversation with Mr. Evans.

Max must have picked up on the fact that Isabel was going to tell their
father the truth about their identities. He was strongly against that. He
didn’t have time to worry about Max. Max hit the accelerator on the car,
getting the attention of Sheriff Valenti and few others around him. Jim
noticed that Max was driving and that Kyle was in the passenger seat. He
motioned for the other officers to put their weapons down. Max stopped the
vehicle right next to Jim. In fact if he had been any closer Jim would be
seriously injured at that point.

The Jeep came to a screeching halt. Isabel caught sight of this. At first
she didn’t know what was going. Then she saw Jim getting into the Jeep and
Max holding a gun to Kyle’s head. “Daddy, you have to go now. Please.
I’ll explain this later. Your life depends on it.” She hugged her Father.

“Isabel, what is wrong with Max? Why do you want me to run?” he asked,
concerned.

“Daddy, please, I can’t lose you both. It’s bad enough I lost Mom. Just
please run, okay?” She looked at him, as the Jeep came towards her.

She couldn’t worry about her Father seeing what would happen next. She held
her hand up and was ready to blast the jeep but a green shield surrounded
it. Isabel was terrified because she knew that Max was coming for her and
he would take them to the dome. She didn’t know if he would cause any of
them harm or not.

The shield went down as soon as Isabel put her hand down. Max, again, had
the gun to Kyle’s head. He was pressing it into Kyle’s temple.

When the Jeep got close enough to Isabel, the passenger side window came
down just a crack. “Get in, NOW,” he said with anger.

“Max, don’t do this,” Isabel tried to plead with him but it was hopeless.

“I’m ordering you to get in.” He cocked the gun back, and pressed it harder
to Kyle’s temple.

She finally gave up the fight and got into the Jeep. Jim was sitting
dumbfounded in the back seat of the Jeep. He reached for Isabel’s hand, and
she started to tear up. She looked back and saw her Father standing with
the two other officers that were on the scene. They were all in shock at
the recent turn of events.

<center>*~*</center>

Liz was outside of the dome. She still wouldn’t look at Michael; he was
really worried for her. Anytime Michael said or took a step closer the wind
would pick and Liz would turn into this big blob of green electricity. He
was afraid that she would hit something that was dry enough and start a huge
fire.

“Liz,” he heard a loud crackling sound. She finally turned towards him.
“Let me help you. Think about Maria, please. She needs us both.” He
reached his hand out for her.

The wind started to die down, but then something new happened and a grey
cloud started to form around them. It almost looked like a tornado.
“Michael, it hurts,” she said in a hoarse voice.

“I know. Let me help you and the pain will stop.” He knew he was risking
it.

“He has them.” The tears started to stream down her face.

He looked at her with confusion. Then he remembered Max was still nuts.
“We can’t do anything for them,” he protested, “but we can help Maria. She
needs us,” he begged her. Tears started to form in his eyes. He, for the
second time, cried in front of someone. It wasn’t like him. He hated
crying. It was such a female thing to do.

The grey cloud disappeared and Liz turned back to the cream color she was
once before. She reached her hand out to him, and Michael took her hand
without a fight. They stood forehead to forehead, tears streamed down both
of their faces. He had never felt so emotional in his life. It was only
supposed to happen to humans.

Liz pulled back. Tears streaked down Michael’s face. She took her thumb
and wiped them away. He took his thumb and wiped her tears away. She could
feel his emotions. She could feel how he truly felt about her. He leaned in
and kissed her again. They kept kissing until Liz heard clapping behind
her. She was shocked at who was standing there.

Neither of them heard the Jeep pull up, during Liz’s internal power
struggle. Michael held her hand and then squeezed it, giving her strength
to face Max. He was definitely not himself. His eyes were black. It must
be some kind of alien rage thing. He’d never seen Max that way, and he
hoped that they could help bring him back to earth, so to speak.

“Maxwell,” Michael said in his normal voice.

Jim, Isabel, and Kyle all got out of the Jeep. His hands were free.

“Well, that was quite the show,” he said with sarcasm. “Do we get an
encore, or will you spare us that gross display of public emotion?
Michael, I always thought of you as a stonewall and not some pansy ass who
shows his emotions at the drop of a pin,” Max said walking towards them.

Michael could feel Liz’s body surge with electrical currents. If he didn’t
stop Max from coming closer she would evaporate him to a pile of dust. It’s
funny how close they were to being vampires. All they needed was the thirst
for blood, the fangs, and the tiny problem with daylight. This was no time
to be making crazy comparisons to fictional characters.

Maria be strong. I’m right outside Michael thought in the back of
his mind. This was going to be some showdown for all of them. “Max, If I
were you, I would keep your distance. This girl has some new powers and she
isn’t afraid to use them, especially on alien kings who have something wedge
really far up their asses,” he spouted in an anxious tone. He was ready to
get this over with already.

Kittens your close but I can't give any clues so keep reading thanks for reading though :)

<center>Chapter Nineteen</center>

Maria was standing next to Kivar. He was talking to somebody but she
couldn’t see any physical forms in front of him. She was ready to run, but
for some reason she felt loyalty towards him and she wasn’t exactly sure
why. It was weird how fast she had been changing. She could literally feel
the energy change in her body. Her thought process had been growing and
there was nothing she could do to stop it from happening.

She sensed more people around her. It was strange. They were close by,
like they were outside. She was hoping she would wake up in her bed back in
the loft at Harvard, then she remembered the phone call. She was going to
have to make it up to her Mother about how she lost her music scholarship.
She could already hear Amy screaming.

“Maria,” she heard a voice and cringed, remembering who it was.

“What?” she said trying to sound pissed off, but it wasn’t working. She
felt like she was turning into some kind of deranged Stepford wife. This
entire situation had taken on a whole new meaning to the term ‘invasion of
the body snatchers’.

“We have visitors. Everyone is here,” he said, eager to get to the point of
this meeting.

“Yeah, uh huh, okay. Why don’t you go and get them,” she said trying to
sound angry but she couldn’t. She couldn’t defy him. It was so strange.

She found herself walking out of the door and greeting the group that was
standing outside. It looked liked they were going to rumble or something.
Then she saw Liz holding Michael’s hand and everything came back to her in
one big explosion. Now she was ready to hurt someone.

Max smiled to himself. He was so busy paying attention to Maria that he
didn’t notice all his hostages standing to the far side of him. They were
just standing watching everything happen, taking it all in.

“Has everyone gone mad?” Kyle said in a whisper. “Did they spike the water
supply and forget to tell us.” He looked at his Father who had a blank
expression on his face.

Isabel’s eyes were transfixed on everything around her, then she saw a
figure that looked like Maria. It looked like Maria but something was off.
She couldn’t quite figure it out. Where Kivar was concerned, it had to be
something bad. It was as if she was a robot.

“Kyle, look,” Isabel pointed towards Maria.

“Oh, Buddha, give me the strength to make it through this alien abduction.”
He looked up at the sky.

<center>*~*</center>

Max noticed Maria, then had the urge to go inside. She must have been sent
outside by Kivar. He could sense the changes in her. He could also sense
Liz and how powerful she had gotten. He was trying to fight what was
happening to him, but it wasn’t working out to well. He started to believe
they were all going to hell.

Without saying anything, Max walked right by Michael and Liz and went to
Maria, then the two of them walked into the dome. Everyone else followed
with curiosity.

Michael and Liz followed behind the rest of the group. They were watching
every move Max made, Michael couldn’t risk being hurt. He couldn’t afford
to have Maria hurt. Now that they were all in the same room, questions
could be asked. He was still holding her hand. He was trying to protect
her.

Liz was really worried about Maria. She knew that something had happened to
her best friend. She was Kivar’s pet now; she wouldn’t be able to get away
from him. They would all have to work together to save each other from this
mad man, or was it mad alien?

Liz glanced to Michael, whom was looking around to see if anything made
sense. None of what was happening made sense to him, and he was sure it
made no sense to anyone else in the room, well except for Kivar. He was
sure he had someone else was working with him. He couldn’t have pulled this
off himself. He was hoping that it wasn’t that little spit wad Nicholas.

“Gather around. I don’t bite,” Kivar said in a mocking tone. He could
almost break out in laughter if the group wasn’t so pathetic.

“What do you want from us?” Max spouted in his own voice.

“Oh, don’t worry, Your Highness, we will get to the point of this just as
soon as I’m ready for it.”

“As for why the rest of you are here? Well I can’t risk any other humans
find out about us.” He said looking around the room. “So, I’ve proposed a
plan.” He stopped and looked at all of their faces: a group of royal
Antarians - give or take one hundred bucks – and a group of misguided humans
sucked into the alien abyss - a few bucks - all of their faces, when they
found out what is going to happen - priceless.

“I can assure you nobody else knows about us.” Max tried to sound
convincing.

“Ah, but that’s where your wrong. You see, I had to take drastic measures
to cover up one of your mistakes.” He watched as Max’s face turned bright
red with rage.

<center>*~*</center

Isabel knew in an instant what he was referring to - their mother. She was
angry. She was ready to leap forward at him with everything she had, but
she felt herself being restrained by Jim. He couldn’t let her put herself in
danger. She had been through enough as it is.

“Ah, Vilandra, such anger for such a beautiful princess.” He mocked her.

“I told you I would kill you again, if you ever came back to earth,” she
said in her ice queen tone.

“Like that would even be possible,” he spit back at her.

“Can we stop with the Scooby Doo antics and get on with this?” Michael
spouted from the back of the room.

Kyle couldn’t help but smile to himself. It was the only thing to keep him
sane, otherwise he would lose whatever sanity he had left, if you call being
in a room with an alien king, his predecessors, and the alien enemy sane.
This all reeked of insane, and he was standing right in the middle of it.
He wanted to wake up now.

Liz gripped Michael’s hand. “Maria come stand with us,” he said, almost
giving an order.

“Yeah, right,” she said, standing next to Kivar. She grabbed his hand.
“The only orders I listen to are his.” She stepped closer to him, letting
him know that she wasn’t going to fight him anymore. She saw him smile.

“Well, now that you know the truth. Maria is different. She is now one of
us. I could explain but the story would just bore you to death.” He
snickered. He saw the anger in Michael’s face. He couldn’t be more
pleased.

“You all are so predictable,” said a voice from behind them.

They all turned to see an unfamiliar face, but the voice sounded vaguely
familiar. “Yes, that’s right. It’s Larek.” He joined Maria and Kivar at
the front.

“Where the hell have you been?” Kivar said with anger, more so then he had
before.

“I couldn’t handle being in Zan’s brain anymore. It was to exhausting.” He
smirked.

“It’s understandable,” Kivar quipped at Larek’s observation. “Now down to
business...” Just when he thought he was getting somewhere, another
interruption.

“What the hell is going on here and what do you want with my kids?” Mr.
Evans was boiling with curiosity.

“Who is this tyrant and what is he doing here? He wasn’t invited,” shouted
Kivar.

Maria leaned into the tall blond male standing next to her. “Mr. Evans,”
she whispered.

“Ah, right good of you to join us, sir. Please, you will find that out in a
minute. Just let me explain,” Kivar said with zero patience.

<center>*~*</center>

“Daddy, stay away from him. He’s evil,” Isabel said, running to his side.

Mr. Evans couldn’t understand what was so important about this place. It
was a geodesic dome. It looked like it had been run down for years, and
they were all acting like it had some important historical meaning. He was
happy to see that both of his children were not harmed, but he wanted to
know who that man was and why was Maria holding his hand.

“Isabel, explain to me what this is.” He looked at her, then to Max, whom
was back to normal. “And please don’t lie to me. Look what lies did to
your Mother.”

Tears welled up in her eyes. She stopped then looked at Max. “I can’t lie
to him. I won’t not anymore,” she said with anger in her voice. “Daddy,
you’ve had your suspicions about us in the past, and I wanted to know what
you came up with.” She stood and looked at him straight into his eyes.

“That what really crashed in the desert that night wasn’t a weather balloon,
and you Max and Michael somehow were a part of that ship crashing. Liz
Parker is somehow involved in all of this. I can’t exactly say what kind of
different you are, but I know you are. So, please, Honey, please tell me
what are you.” His eyes pleaded with hers.

Tears sprang to her eyes and she looked at the group surrounding them. She
was surprised Kivar hadn’t interrupted them. “Daddy, your right. We are
different. We are the aliens from the 1947 UFO crash.” She saw his jaw
drop.

“This is the lie that killed your Mother,” he said with anger. “I have the
right to know the TRUTH!” His voice rose with every syllable.

“Isabel, its okay. He has the right to know,” she heard Max intervene. She
looked at her brother, with complete shock. “When they found us in the
desert that night, we had just hatched from our incubation pods. We were
born at the age of six. We had to lie to you. I’m sorry,” she choked back
on her tears.

Kivar and Larek just sat back enjoying this show. That was one more person
they had to either kill or bring back with them. He wasn’t going to let
this get anymore out of control. “Mr. Evans, welcome to the ‘I know an
alien club. Now, please, can we continue this or do I have to silence all
of you?”

Phillip ignored the man. “Is this why Jesse left you?” he said with
concern. Isabel just looked at him and shook her head yes.

“Thank you for telling me the truth. And, honey, it doesn’t change the way
I feel about you and your brother. I just wish you could have told me
sooner so we could have spared your Mother’s life.” He eyed the man in the
front of the room.

“Now, that the cheesy family reunion is over, can I tell you the reason for
all of this?” Kivar’s voice echoed throughout the dome. The wall shook as
he spoke, and that startled everyone.

“This better be good,” Max spoke. He was hit with a blast of energy. He
fell to the ground in pain. He wouldn’t be moving for awhile.
