To Pandas2001: Yes to your first question as to why Max brought out their relationship. As to whether or not Alex, Kyle, and Liz's father was alien...the answer is yes...he was alien

Chapter 8
A Year Later:
Time- It kept going even when she wanted it to stop. A year and three months had passed since landing on Earth and they were still in the same place they had been in when they had first arrived. Liz was starting to lose hope that they would ever make it back to Antar. Lying down on the cot beside Zeb’s, she smoothed back his dark curls and smiled. Zebulon Alexander Cannaid was her whole entire world. He kept her sane, something that was not accomplished easily nowadays. Liz had never realized that she could love someone as much as she loved Zeb until she had held him in her arms for the very first time a year ago. Tomorrow, her sweet baby boy turned a year old. She was so proud of him. With beautiful hazel brown eyes, curly, dark brown hair, and dimples, Zeb was the exact replica of his father. He was shy and intelligent, with a contagious happiness that brought people to their knees. Max would be proud of him. Their baby was turning one tomorrow and it broke her heart to know Max couldn’t be here.
Trying hard not to cry, Liz turned over to look up at the ceiling. She missed him so much it hurt. Life had turned from crap to hell all in a space of fifteen months. They were running out of food and most especially hope. The survivors were starting to get impatient and skittish which was not a good thing. Even with Kyle, Jake, and Grant’s help, Alex still couldn’t get the ship to work. They had found five more survivors during the months that past. There was one survivor in particular that Liz, Maria, and Serena had become good friends with, Charlotte Wilson. Charlotte was a quiet but quirky twenty year old, single mother-to-be who had been hiding in her attic when they had found her. Lottie and Liz were so much alike that it was scary. With dark brown hair and eyes, Lottie was an inch taller than Liz. She was the most levelheaded person Liz knew, except for Max and maybe Alex and Kyle. Speaking of her brothers, Alex and Kyle had become closer since working together on the ship a year ago. They had a bond that had Liz often filled with envy. She felt guilty for feeling that way but if Kyle wasn’t with Alex working on the ship then he was with Serena. They rarely had time to talk anymore and that made her a little bit sad. She yearned for peace…yearned for Max.
Playing with her necklace, Liz wondered if he missed her half as much as she missed him. She wondered if he stayed up late at night thinking of her…yearning for her as she did him. Liz wondered if he still loved her or if he had moved on. She knew that she would die inside if he had moved on. Liz refused to believe that he would do that to her…to them. In her dreams Liz continued to hope that Max would travel down from Antar to save them, like he did on her last mission. But as the days passed into months and the months passed into a year, Liz started to doubt if he was coming at all. Her heart ached painfully in dread, fear, and sadness. She loved him so much…would probably love him to the day that she died but there was a seed of doubt in her heart that he felt the same way. Looking over to Zeb, who currently was lying on his stomach sleeping soundly, Liz sighed. She was so confused. Her emotions were all over the place and she hated it. She just wanted to go home to Max. The memories of their time together always hit her the hardest at night. When she wasn’t throwing herself into taking care of Zeb, she was thinking about him. They had been so happy together before landing on Antar after her first mission. But then everything had changed leading her to where she was right now.
In Orbit~ Five Months Later:
“Max? Where do we go from here?” Liz whispered somberly as she lay cuddled in his strong arms, after having just made passionate love. They had been avoiding this subject for months. She thought this was as good a time as any to brooch the topic that had been eating away at her soul for the past month. Despite the fact the he loved her and vice-versa; there was still the problem of their social status once they landed on Antar. He was still the heir to Antar’s throne and she was still just a human. Feeling his eyes on her, Liz looked up to meet his eyes in sadness. She hadn’t missed the fact that Max had tensed up at her question. Liz knew that this was just as hard on him as it was on her but she needed to know. They couldn’t live in orbit forever. “Do you trust me, Liz?” “Yes!” She answered after a moment of pause. Over the last few months, Liz had grown to know the man that Max had become since their separation. He was honest to the point of being brutal and it was nothing he wouldn’t do for the ones that he loved. Max hadn’t had a mistress since their first meeting which made her love him all the more He had a heart that was pure something she hadn’t realized until a few months ago when they had connected by accident. So to answer his question…yes she trusted him but that didn’t make her any less afraid of what was to come.
“Good then you know that I love you and that I would never let anyone hurt you! Once we land on Antar, our relationship has to remain quiet until I am crowned King. No one except for Alex, Gaia, my sister, and Michael can know about us. Don’t look me like that Liz! I know what you are thinking and no I’m not ashamed of you or ashamed of being with you…and you should damn well know it by now!” Max sighed, anger evident in his eyes and tone. Sitting up, Liz continued to frown as she turned to meet his smoldering hazel-brown eyes. “I do know it and that’s not what I was thinking! I was just thinking about how complicated our relationship is going to be. Do we even have a future, Max? Should I even hope to be more than your mistress in secret? And then there’s the question of who you think will hurt me? You’re afraid that I will get hurt if anyone ever found out about us. Where does that leave us now, Max? You won’t be crowned king until you are twenty-five. That’s three years from now…do we hide that we’re together until then?” She asked as confusion and fear clouded her enormous dark brown eyes. Sitting up, Max moved closer to her before tucking a strand of her long dark hair behind her hair. Meeting her eyes head on, he said, “I’m sorry but that’s exactly what we’ll do until I can protect you properly. We’ll take it one day at a time and we’ll go about our days as usual as if we never met. I’ll come to you when the time is right. I promise we’ll be with each other as much as possible and as soon as I become King…you’ll become my wife!” Max whispered sternly in, regret and sadness filling his eyes, as he kissed her tears away.
Upon landing on Antar the next day, their plan was put into action. It broke her heart for Max to kiss her with emotion before walking away. It was a week later before she saw him again in the Market place. She had learned in that week that just because they weren’t together in the flesh didn’t mean that they couldn’t be together on the dream plane. Liz had watched him in her peripheral as he pretended not to know her and though it broke her heart even more she did the same. That night, he snuck into her bedroom and pulled her into his arms. They didn’t talk but just laid there too emotionally drained to do anything but hold each other. Liz awakened the next day to find that he was gone. The following night, she was fully awake waiting for him. He entered her bedroom and slowly closed and locked the door. Turning around, Max met her eyes in surprise. “Hey, I didn’t wake you did I?” He asked softly as he took off his clothes to climb in bed beside her. “No…I was already awake. Max, we need to talk!” “Liz!” He sighed in warning before turning to meet her eyes. “I can’t do this, Max. I tried. I really did but…” “But what? I don’t understand. Do you see another alternative to us being together because I don’t? This is it for us, Liz, until I become king!” Liz sighed. “I’m just tired of never seeing you. How you can I go from seeing you everyday to seeing you only when the time is right? I just wish things were different!” “And they will be, I promise, once I become King!” Max promised, before pulling her into his arms to kiss her gently. They made love several times that night before falling asleep in each others’ arms.
Things didn’t change between them after that night they only got worse. Liz almost never saw Max and when she did she had to stay away from him. He would sneak into her bedroom every night to either fall right to sleep or to make love to her and then fall right to sleep. They never talked anymore, never laughed and that hurt. She tried on several occasions to talk about them but he would always wave away her worries with a kiss and a promise that in three years they would be together as man and wife. Max had duties to Antar and she understood that but she missed what they had before they had landed on Antar. There were also rumors flying around that Princess Avarielle from Katarian City was still interested in Max’s hand in marriage and that she was due to arrive for a six month stay in Karpathia Country in a week. This news did not sit well with Liz. Not to mention, she couldn’t stop thinking about Kyle and the fact that they had failed immensely at finding him. Something inside of her refused to believe that Kyle was dead and yet here she was living in paradise while her brother was somewhere down there living in hell. Should she just give up the hope of ever finding him? Liz had almost died. She couldn’t forget that and yet she felt so lost inside at the thought of not knowing whether or not her brother was dead or alive.
Months passed into a year as she tried to be happy. Antar was not her home but neither was Earth. Max was her home or at least she had thought so. She could wait two years to become his wife couldn’t she? But then what? Being his wife would then mean being the Queen of Antar, could she do that? Be a Queen of a planet that wasn’t even her own? Would she make a good wife? A good Queen? Would Max become disappointed in marrying her if she wasn’t? Would he resent her? She didn’t even know who she was anymore. Liz was losing herself, losing her goals. Who was she without Max? A hopeless, human orphan who was rapidly losing her mind. She had to find Kyle. Liz had to find who she was without Max. She realized then that she had to go back to Earth. Tomorrow was her birthday. They were going to have a small party at the cottage. Max had promised grudgingly the night before that he was going to be there. They didn’t talk like they use to and whenever they did…their conversations were always tense, awkward, and short. Sighing, Liz looked out the window onto Karpathia Country before going to get ready for her party. Minutes turned into hours and Max never came. Liz continued to smile throughout the party, with tears threatening to spill from her eyes every time she blinked. No one knew what was really going on inside of her except for Alex. He knew and he didn’t approve Max’s plan. That night Liz lay in bed silently crying when he crept in. She was hurting too much to say anything so she pretended that she was asleep. He didn’t touch her and she didn’t care. The next morning, Liz rolled over to find a rectangular, expensive box and a note on her pillow in his handwriting:
“Happy Belated Birthday Angel,
I’m sorry that I wasn’t there. I had dinner and a meeting with King Alistair and My father that took well into the night. I love you don’t forget that and I promise that I’ll make it up to you tonight. By the way, I didn’t forget. Your present is fit for a queen…fit for you, put it away and remember it for our wedding day.
~With All My Love,
Max”
After reading his note, she opened the box to find a silver necklace with a silver heart dangling at the end of it. There was a diamond in-bedded in the middle of it with an Antarian symbol surrounding it. On the back of it…it had a small inscription that said: To Liz, My Dearest Queen~ From Max. Max was right. It was fit for a queen but not for her. Diamonds were very rare and expensive on Antar because they were very limited and only came from Earth. She couldn’t wear it now because it would only fuel every ones’ suspicions of where or rather who she got it from. Liz wanted to cry-to scream but she did neither. She didn’t like this power that he had over her. Max had the power to destroy her and yet he had the power to make her so happy. How could she be so lost and restless when she had the heart of a King? Getting dressed, she ate breakfast methodically, her heart cold inside. She had to do something because she was slowly dying inside. Liz didn’t belong here…She needed to find where she belonged.
Liz loved Max with all her heart but she couldn’t wait for him to become king to be happy and at peace again. She needed closure. Liz knew Max would be furious when he found out about her plan to go back to Earth. But she needed to follow her own rainbow for awhile and that’s exactly what she planned to do. The Counsel members were so obliging in giving her their blessing for her trip back to Earth. They even gave her one of newer, faster ships, an S929. They didn’t think she knew but she knew. Liz knew that this would be their way of getting rid of her once and for all. They had had their eyes on her every since she was registered a level three. She was their equal in power and they couldn’t stand it. Whatever they could do…she could do better and they knew it. Manipulative and corrupt, they were The Counsel…the deciding factors in the way Antar was ruled and yet they were threatened by mere a human. Smiling bitterly, Liz went about her daily chores before going home to talk to Alex. He hadn’t agreed at first but Alex was Alex. He wanted to find Kyle as much as she did…maybe even more. So they spent the rest of the night setting up and getting ready for their journey back to Earth. It didn’t take long to prepare their ship. They would leave tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
That night, Liz was awakened out of a sound sleep by Max. Groaning, she swatted his hands away. She had decided she would find a way to talk to him tomorrow but as of right now she wanted sleep. “Liz wake up. C’mon Angel!” Max sighed, kissing her awake. “Max I’m sleeping!” “I know. But I want to make love to you in my bed tonight.” He whispered nuzzling her awake. “What?” Liz finally asked opening her eyes to meet his. “My parent’s went to King Alistair’s holding for two days. So we can spend the night there tonight and maybe tomorrow night.” He said suggestively with a sexy smile. “Okay what about Princess Avarielle?” “What about her? She’s asleep and on the other side of the manor.” Sighing in resignation, Liz got up and got dressed. Any other time, Liz would have argued but she was too tired to convince him of his insanity. Leaving a note with Alex, Liz went outside to greet Michael, who sat on top of the carriage, as she entered it with Max not far behind her. Fifteen minutes later, they were quietly entering the palace. Taking her hand, Max led her to the other end of the hall, in the opposite direction from his bedroom. “Max? Your bedroom is the other way?” “No it isn’t…I moved out of it when we landed.” “Why?” Liz asked beyond curious. “Because I knew one day I was going to bring you here and I wanted our bedroom to have memories of just us.” Max explained in a hushed voice before pulling her into their bedroom.
Their bedroom was large and beautiful with a huge canopy bed in the middle of it. They even had a balcony that looked over Karpathia Country. Liz was stunned speechless but not for too long because they were only here for tonight. Tomorrow morning, she would go back home to pretend that everything was fine when it wasn’t. Liz watched as Max silently went out onto the balcony, removing his clothes. Sighing, she moved over to the bed and removed her clothes. She was so exhausted. Climbing into bed, Liz stretched out, yawing. He was right. This bed was so much better than her bed. She closed her briefly before feeling the bed dip under Max’s weight. Opening her eyes, Liz found a pair of fervent, hazel brown eyes staring down into hers. She lost herself in his eyes as he slowly lowered his lips to hers. That night, he made love to her hard, eagerly thrusting into her. Their cries of pleasure only served to fuel their lovemaking, making them burn for one another. Seconds turned into minutes as time slowly passed them by but they didn’t notice. Their lovemaking had always been overwhelming and intense. But it had never been like this: earth shattering, heartbreaking, erotic, and never ending all at the same time. “Oh Max…Yes…Oh God!” Letting out a sob, she climaxed again for the second time as he drove into her. Moving her hands up his sweat glistened back, Liz sank her nails into his buttocks as her walls clinched around him, squeezing him lovingly. She could feel him jerk and harden inside of her as he thrust harder. “Oh damn…oh damn…not yet…not yet!” He cried out, burrowing his head inside of her neck as he came into her womb, shattering. They never realized as they came down from cloud nine that everything was about to change for the worse.
Present Day…
“Happy Birthday, Dear Zeb…Happy Birthday To You!” The small group finished singing as they watched the birthday boy grin before hiding in the crook of Liz’s neck. They had spent all morning preparing a small birthday party for Zeb. Liz, Kyle, and Alex had spent all morning in the apartment building’s basement looking for presents for the birthday boy. They had found several toy cars, a stuffed toy train, and a classic One 600, Polaroid camera. Alex had later put together what looked like the Antarians’ imitation of a small birthday cake with what little amount of food they had. The cake was disgusting but everyone ate it, including Zeb. Liz mused as she watched her son stuff his face with cake. She had tried to feed him but failed hopelessly when she had seen his large, beautiful, light brown eyes fill with tears. “Noooo momma…Big boy!” He whimpered in exasperation, before moving her hand away from his plate. Those were his favorite words: no, momma, and big boy. Zeb had said his first words two months ago. Liz remembered it as if it was yesterday. She had decided to go check on Alex and the ship, while leaving Zeb with Maria. Just as Liz was about to leave, Zeb had crawled over to her wailing, “No Momma!” She stood frozen to the spot as he waited for her to pick him up. Snapping out of her thoughts, Liz had started crying and laughing as she picked him up into her arms, his small arms encircled her neck tightly. She had left him before to go check on Alex but that had always been during his nap time, other than that they had never been separated. At that point, Maria came into the living room giving her a quizzical look of worry before kissing Zeb on his forehead. “What’s wrong?” “He said his first words, Maria. He said momma!” Maria squealed with laughter before giving Zeb another kiss on the forehead. “You can talk! Can you say Auntie Maria? C’mon Zeb…say Aun-tie Ma-ria?” Zeb had just simply grinned in amusement at his Auntie Maria’s antics. That day, Liz took Zeb with her. She hadn’t tried to make a habit out of it though because it was still too dangerous.
Hours passed as the survivors came and went wishing Zeb a happy birthday before grabbing a piece of a cake, mingling, and to Liz’s relief leaving. It was around Zeb’s naptime when Liz, Maria, Serena, and Lottie heard shouting and cries outside of Liz’s apartment door. Giving each other a look of worry, they went to the door to see what was going on. The first thing Liz saw Alex dragging in a tied up Jake, an eighteen year old from Roswell. He shared an apartment with his sister Amy on the second floor. “Alex, what the hell is going on?” Liz asked, looking up at Alex, Grant, and Kyle’s furious expressions. “I caught this little shit cutting one of the fueling pumps to the ship!” “Jake is that true?” Liz asked in whispered horror, as she looked down to the boy that everyone had learned to trust call friend. “I’m sorry!” He sobbed, looking down to the floor in shame. “How long?” One of the other survivors called out in anger. It was an angry crowd that filled the hallway. “Every since I started helping Kyle at the ship!” Doing a mental calculation in her head, Liz realized that he had been sabotaging their ship for little more than a year “Why?” Kyle asked in controlled anger. “I didn’t want to go to Antar…or where ever the hell you are from! We had a life here…we have a life here so why leave?” “Because it’s only a matter of time before we die, you fuckin’ idiot! Do you know what you have done? You have put all of our lives in danger because of your stupidity!” Liz cried out in anger. She shook uncontrollably as she tried not to lash out and kill him. “What do we do with him?” Alex asked. “I don’t know…put him in one of the empty apartments. Make sure he doesn’t get out and no one gets in. I want to talk to Amy…where is she?” She asked Jake in violence. “She’s upstairs!” “Did she know?” “What? No-no she didn’t know!” “You’re lying.” Liz whispered before shaking her head in anger and disappointment. “Kyle, can you bring her to me? She’s not even worth waking up Zeb for but I want to talk to her!” “Sure!” Kyle nodded before helping Alex drag the fighting boy upstairs.
Running her hand through her hair, Liz sighed before making her way back into her apartment, with Serena, Maria, and Charlotte not too far behind. Ten minutes later, Kyle dragged a struggling Amy into her apartment before closing the door. At nineteen years old, she was beautiful in an innocent sort of way. She, like her younger brother, had had everyone wrapped around her little finger. “Sit down!” Liz whispered in anger. Maria and Zeb were in her bedroom playing while Serena and Charlotte were currently cooking dinner in her kitchen. Crying, Amy obeyed. Liz was no longer fazed by her tears anymore. They only served to make her angrier. “Answer me honestly, Amy, because I will know if you are lying?” Liz was lying. No she wouldn’t but Amy didn’t need to know that. “Did you know that Jake was cutting the fuel lines to our ship?” “Yes!” Amy nodded in guilt. “So you knew and yet you didn’t think to stop him or to tell someone? Were you guys in this together?” Liz asked wearily already knowing the answer to the question but needing to hear it all the same.
“Yes. It’s all my fault. I put him up to it. Please don’t hurt him!” Amy sobbed quietly. “I was so afraid of leaving Earth that I thought if we just stayed in this building…that everything would be okay!” Liz wanted to strangle her instead she just closed her eyes and sighed. “First off, we aren’t going to hurt you or your brother. We are not monsters. We might contemplate killing you but we won’t do it. Secondly, although I understand your fear about leaving Earth…I also know that it’s illogical. Earth is dying…no correction…Earth is dead. And by sabotaging our ship, you and your brother might have sentenced us all to die as well. Any other time, I might have forgiven you your stupidity but you did a grave thing by messing with all of our lives, especially my son’s. And for that I cannot forgive you! So in saying all that, I’m telling you that until we decide what to do with both you and your brother, you will be staying in separate apartments. You will be tied up, gagged, and watched at all times. You are no longer survivors but prisoners!” And with that Amy ran for the door. Liz just sighed before using her powers to slam the door shut before she could escape. Charlotte and Serena both looked up startled at the door slamming shut. Liz watched in resignation as Amy tugged and banged on the door, trying to get out. Getting up, she called out Amy’s name. Just as she turned around, Liz used her powers to freeze Amy’s movements. She really wasn’t frozen. She just couldn’t move until Liz let her. There was a panic in Amy’s eyes that made Liz feel guilty but this was the only way. Minutes later, Liz watched as Kyle and Alex dragged a struggling, crying Amy out of her apartment.
Later that night, she sat lost in her thoughts as she held a sleeping Zeb in her arms. Alex and Kyle sat talking quietly beside her. “So what do you think we should do, Liz, about Amy and Jake?” Alex asked, interrupting her from her brooding thoughts. “I don’t know. I’m thinking that maybe we need to keep them under lock and key for awhile until things have settled down or until we leave for Antar. I think that we should take them with us. Despite all that they’ve done…they’re still just kids.” “I agree but we would be taking them against their wills. We’ve never done that before. Plus we can’t trust that they won’t pull something once we get on the ship.” Alex muttered. “Like I said we’ll just have to put them under lock and key once we get on the ship and keep a close eye on them. We can’t just leave them here…we would be sentencing them to death and I couldn’t live with that. Could you?” In response, both Kyle and Alex shook their heads no. “Then that settles it then. We’ll have to appoint who will look after them tomorrow.” Liz sighed, smoothing back Zeb’s dark hair. “How long do you think we’ll have to wait for the ship to be fixed now?” She asked Alex, meeting his eyes. “Not long… now that we’ve solved the problem of why the fuel pumps were always leaking in the first place. We’ll be heading back to Antar in three months at the most!” Three more months and then maybe they would be heading back to Antar. Liz didn’t know whether to jump for joy or scream in frustration.
