ken_r I'm glad my stories are inspiring to you! Yes, I think everyone wants to change the last season.

BETHANN thank you so much for the compliments. I try to update as much as possible, so hopefully you aren't disappointed to many times when you check for updates!

RhondaAnn yes, Max could have blocked their powers like he did for the children in the hospital, but things happened to quickly at the end.

Michelle in Yonkers aww don't be to hard on the writers of the original show. I do get paid to write now, which is about all I can say because some people would be severly ticked if they knew I was writing and they weren't getting their 'cut' but writers on a TV show have a whole lot of people telling them what to do, JK included. I'd bet the farm that Season three's direction came straight from the exec's and/or actors. Unfortunately we writers don't have much control sometimes

Chapter 19

The small Valenti household was filling up quickly. Kyle, Jim, Amy, Liz, Maria, Alex, Kay, Kaleb, Katrina, Diane, Philip and Mr. Whitman were all in attendance, talking nervously amongst themselves. Kaleb was insisting that Alex tell him straight up what was going on, and Kal had placed a rather frantic call from California insisting to know what was going on. Alex had promised to put him on speaker phone so that he could hear everything.

When the last four shapeshifters walked in the door, Alex stood up to begin the I know an alien club meeting.

He looked around the room. "Alright everyone, if you could all just be quiet I'll explain what is going on," Alex said. The room quieted down and Alex continued. "In case anything went wrong with any of the plans, Max made an emergency way to contact us. That emergency way to contact us would be via me, like how Larek took over Brody's body."

"Oh my God Alex, Brody almost like died when they did that to him!" Maria exclaimed. Nervous shouts and arguments erupted from the room, and poor Mr. Whitman looked like he was going to faint.

"Everyone calm down!" Alex said with as much authority as he could muster. It worked, as everyone hushed. "Yes Maria, it was dangerous for Brody, but his body wasn't prepared. Mine has been being prepared for the last 5 hours, and I'm only going to be conscious another 10 minutes or so. Max should then take control 45 minutes after that."

Alex paced the room, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. "I don't want to alarm anyone, but I know for a fact they wouldn't do this unless there were dire consequences at stake. They missed something, or something has gone wrong on Antar. I need everyone in this room to remain calm, cool and collected," he said, looking at Maria.

"Max will not possess me any longer then he has to, so if it is all business I don't want anyone's feelings being hurt," he said as he looked at Liz. "All questions should be directed to the problem at hand, so that Max can return me to my body as soon as possible. We can get more information when he dream walks Liz, this is strictly an emergency meeting. Am I clear?"

Everyone shook their heads in acknowledgement. "Now, I need a place to get comfortable so that when I go unconscious I don't land on my face." Kyle and Kay jumped up from their places on the couch and Alex sat down. "Does anyone have any questions?" he said, gingerly leaning in the corner of the couch so that he wouldn't fall when his body went limp.

"How...how does this work Alex? Why you? He can do it to me instead," Mr. Whitman said, still worried after Alex's words of assurance.

"I appreciate that Dad, really I do, but you don't have the wiring," Alex said, knocking on his head. "The abductions have been something the aliens have done for a long time, and they took people with life threatening conditions, like Brody's cancer, and healed them. I guess it gave them peace of mind that the person wouldn't be living anyway, so if they borrowed them for awhile it wouldn't be that bad."

Maria snorted. While she knew Brody was glad to be alive, she knew the constant terror he lived in about being abducted.

Alex shot Maria a look. "Now is not the time to debate the ethics involved here. Most of the people that have had the necessary changes made to their brain can be accessed by any of the Kings in their solar system, but only Max can access me. He made sure of it. There was a lot of damage to my brain when they found me," he said, watching his Father wince, "so he has intimate knowledge with my brain. I trust him to do this."

"Just please, when he gets here, remember what I said. It won't be for long, so listen and only ask necessary questions. I think it's starting to hap..." Alex didn't finish the question as he went limp. He started to lean forward and Liz gently pushed him back so that he was slightly laying down.

The people in the room sat in silence looking at Alex. "Hey Valenti, do you have a bottle? Maybe you all could play spin the bottle to pass the time," came Kal's voice over the speakerphone of Alex's Blackberry, which Liz now noticed was on the coffee table. Liz could almost see Kal's smirk.

Maria spoke up. "Funny Kal, I'm surprised you don't make more comedies."

"Speaking of which," Kal said, "we might as well get some business out of the way since we have awhile to wait until his highness comes through. I got the script you and Liz wrote the other day, and let me tell you I'm Pissed. Off."

Liz and Maria looked at each other with worried expressions. It had taken them almost two months to complete the script, but they had tried their hardest. They had stayed away from anything that could be related to aliens, but the story was still in the suspense genre. Maybe they had unconsciously said things they weren't supposed to say?

"I'm sorry Kal, but why did we piss you off?" Liz said, uncomfortable under the eyes of all these people. Liz and Maria had really put a lot of work into that script, and it was hard to hear Kal being upset over it. It's not like they thought it was a masterpiece, but they actually thought it was pretty good.

"I'm Pissed. Off. because we are supposed to be laundering the green here, and with this script it is impossible to do that," Kal said calmly.

"Oh just get on with it!" exclaimed Maria walking over to the cell phone. "Save the dramatics for your movies. We did what you said. We wrote the damn script. Even though you basically said we could just slap some crap on paper we didn't, we really tried. I'm sure for you, Mr. Hollywood our story seems stupid but...."

"That's enough!" Amy Deluca said. "I will not stand for you upsetting my daughter! She didn't ask to do this script thing, and you will not demean her, especially in front of all these people. You will not...."

"STOP!" yelled Kal. "I am doing nothing of the sort, and if you'd let me finish you'd know why. What I'm trying to say is how can I use this to launder money when any studio would give their right arm to own this story?"

Maria fell to her knees in front of the coffee table. "Really?" she asked as she grabbed Liz's hand.

"Really," said Kal. "I knew you two would be good partners, but this is incredible. Crisp writing. Great attention to detail. Amazing twists. When this thing goes out to all the studios Friday we are going to have a major bidding war on our hands."

"Oh! My! God!" Maria yelled, grabbing Liz in a hug. The two girls were squealing with delight as congratulations were offered by the others in the room.

Amy stepped up and grabbed both girls in a great big hug. "Oh I am so proud of you, both of you!"

"Alright, now that I've got that out, we need to get you girls signed to an agent to handle the transactions." Kal boomed in a business like tone. "I've already rounded you up one, and no matter what he says, you will not allow them to capitalize on your age. You only want your 'art' to be seen by the masses, not be a public display, am I clear?"

"Yes Kal!" the two girls said in unison. "I so feel like a Charlie's Angel right now," Maria laughed, looking at the phone. "Well except that you don't have that hot voice, and we know what you look like, and there are only two of us...."

"I think what Maria is trying to say is thanks Kal, thank you for everything, " Liz said earnestly.

"Yeah, ditto," Maria said.

"Your welcome," Kal said. "And Kyle, I think I have saw your ass enough to last for two lifetimes, it's plastered on billboards everywhere."

"Uh, ok," said Kyle, squirming in his place on the floor.

"WHAT?" Maria said, eyes wide. "What is this about Kyle?"

"Yeah Kyle, why have you been hiding your butt from us?" Liz asked laughing.

"Uh, Liz?" It was Alex's voice, coming from Alex's face, but the pure emotion emanating out of Alex's eyes was all Max.

"Max?" Liz whispered, and then suddenly realized what they were talking about. "Umm Kyle's been hiding one of his ads from us," she said quickly, not wanting any misunderstandings. They had enough of them over the last year to last a lifetime.

"Right..." Max said still staring at Liz, like he couldn't believe she was there.

"Your highness, something is wrong for you to be here, so spit it out and quit staring at Liz," Kal said over the speakerphone.

This shook Max out of his daze. He shook his head and took in his surroundings. Thankfully everyone was here that had stayed in Roswell.

"We believe we have a problem here on Earth," Max said, standing up. He stumbled slightly, not used to Alex's long legs. Liz jumped up and grabbed his arm.

"Thanks," he whispered, touching her face. "Welcome," she mouthed back, biting her lip. Max put his arms on her shoulders and gently set her down in the place he had just vacated on the couch.

Max cleared his throat as he stood before the group. "As I was saying, we have a problem here on Earth. The other leaders know of our close connection with Liz, Maria, and you Mom and Dad," he said, smiling at his parents. Mrs. Evans wiped a tear that was threatening to from her eye. It had been to long since she had seen her children.

"They didn't know of Isabel and Alex's relationship, and they all claim to have gotten this knowledge from Kivar himself. This has led us to believe there is a traitor in our mist, and we think it is Suzanne Duff, since any information Kivar told them seems to have been passed on by the FBI." he finished.

Kaleb moved in front of Max from his place against the wall, and bowed low. "Your highness, I will take care of the situation and make sure that no one is hurt."

"Thank you Kaleb, I have every confidence that you will investigate our allegations and come up with an honorable solution. You have all my authority to deal with this situation," Max said as Kaleb positively beamed.

"You honor me with your confidence, your highness." Kaleb said, bowing again. "I will not disappoint you."

"Your Highness, if that is all the information about this most dire situation I'd like to inquire about how things are going back home," Katrina asked wistfully.

"Things are going really well Katrina. Antar is free of Kivar's influence. We are rebuilding the army, restoring trade through the planets..." Max said and continued to talk about the accomplishments they had made on Antar.

Liz and the other humans in the room stared at Max in awe. He was so commanding, so confident. It was like a part of him they knew was there had been unearthed. 'So damn sexy,' Liz thought, suddenly feeling very, very inadequate.

"That is great news Sire! Are there any plans on when we may return?" Kaleb asked.

"Not as of yet Kaleb, and I'm sorry, I know how much you want to return home. We need to make sure everything is settled in all the worlds, ours and Earth. There is another thing I want to share with you, a bit of information Michael found out during a fact finding mission," Max said and continued to tell them about the battle ships that were almost sent to Earth.

Gasps could be heard around the room. "It seems we had a very good reason to change the future, Liz," he said quietly, looking at her eyes intently.

"It seems so," Liz said, looking back at him.

Max broke the daze and spoke up again. "As much as I'd love to stay here much longer, Isabel will kill me if I keep Alex held up much more. First, Maria, is there anything you'd like to tell Michael, any ummm changes?"

Maria knew exactly what Max was talking about, even though thankfully he was being discreet. Michael had also been worried that he had left a pregnant Maria back on Earth. "No Max, tell him everything is umm just the way he left it, but that we need to have one hell of a long talk," she said blushing as Max's face broke out in a big smile, a smile trying to hide the laughter.

Max walked over to where his parents were standing and embraced both of them. "That is from Isabel, and me of course. We miss you both and love you so much." The Evan's whispered they loved them too through unshed tears.

Max cleared his throat. "Now how are all our changing humans doing in the power area?" he asked, looking at Liz.

"I'm the only one who has active powers right now, but I have it under control," Liz said, smiling.

"Good, good," Max said, smiling back. He cleared his throat again. "I want to leave you with one thing and I want to make sure it is perfectly clear. If there is any government activity, any at all I want every person in this room to go to the pod chamber and activate the receiver to go to Antar. No acceptions."

"But Sire, how can we do that? Only a King or Queen can activate it," said Kaleb, confused.

"I knew it!" said Kal over the speaker phone.

"Kal..." Max warned. He took a deep breath and walked up to Liz. "I...I didn't want to tell you this way, and I didn't realize it myself until I had a talk with my Grandmother...Liz, you can activate the receiver if you need to."

"But...how...wha..." Liz started to say as Max put a finger on her lips.

"The healing, the reverse connection...I can't explain now, but I want you to know I meant what I said that day in the janitors closet. You should be able to grow, and I will not hold you to a promise you did not know you were making, unless you want to of course," he said, blushing a little. "Take this time we are apart and live Liz. We will see each other again in September, and we'll have a lot longer to discuss....things...."

"Thank you again for everything everyone. Please be sure to tell Alex that too, and also tell him that I'm sorry." Max said.

"Sorry for what?" Liz asked.

"For doing this," Max said as he picked Liz up off the couch, wrapped his arms around her, and planted a passionate kiss on her lips.

Just as Liz realized what was happening Alex's body went limp and they both fell on the couch. Alex pulled up off a crushed Liz and looked down at her face. "Liz?" he said.

"Max said he was sorry," she said, not believing she had just kissed her best friend. Well her best friend that was possessed by her ex-boyfriend. Well her best friend that was possessed by her boyfriend? Or was it....oh god....husband?

"Pay up sucka," Kay said, extending her hand to Kyle. That day Kyle had busted Kay saying that she'd have to bow to Liz on Antar he had called her out on it. Kay had explained that she had heard the story of Max healing Liz and seeing her soul, and that Max had later reversed the connection so that she could see his. She was positive that seeing each other's souls would constitute an 'intimate' act thus marrying them.

Kyle thought that was bull, but now he begrudgingly reached into his wallet to pay the 10 bucks he had bet Kay that she was full of crap.

"What's this all about," Kaleb saying, eyeing the two suspiciously. On there own they were quite the mischief makers, but together they would redefine the word mischief.

"Oh, I just bet Kyle that Liz was the Queen, and Kyle, being the unromantic clod that he is didn't believe it," Kay said brightly.

"Queen?" Alex said, now that he had disentangled himself from Liz. Liz nodded dumbly as she tried to process this information, and Maria came and put her arm around Liz.

"Welcome to the I unwillingly married an alien club," Maria said.

"WHAT?" Amy said.

You could of heard a pin drop, and then all that could be heard was Kal's unrestrained laughter. "Oh this is priceless, priceless I tell you!" he said between laughs.

"Shit." said Liz and Maria together.

First of all, I'd like to thank Drogyn for the absolutely amazing banner he made for this fic!

Isn't it wonderful?

eric1978 I've tried to stay true to the Kal on the show, with how he would act if he wouldn't have been accousted by control-freak-I-am-King Max. I'm glad you are enjoying him!
Vilandra girl said:
I loved that you brough Agent Duff in. That was quite an interesting twist.
Thanks! I always just shook my head that Agent Duff saw all that alien craziness and just one talk with Jim made any kind of threat from her go away. That was one of the biggest things that bugged me, because a Federal Agent would not just LET THAT GO.

ultimatepickupline I'm glad you are enjoying it! I'm about to finish reading your "Consequences of Turning Green" and it is simply brilliant!

And a big thank you to everyone else who is reading! I really appreciate the feedback!

Chapter 20

Max awoke with a start. He blinked his eyes a couple of times trying to get his vision into focus. As the world around him became clear, he saw Isabel, Michael, and Serena right in front of his face staring at him intently.

"Are you alright?" Isabel asked in a worried tone. Max reached up and took the apparatus off his head that resembled a halo people wore with serious neck injuries.

"I'm fine, just a little disoriented," Max answered. He could still feel Liz's lips on his own and didn't want the feeling to go away, he wanted to savor it. He closed his eyes and remembered the taste of Cherries and Tabasco. What? He knew the cherries must have been her lip gloss, but Tabasco? Max couldn't help but smile at the thought of Liz eating Tabasco sauce.

There was a time, in the not so distant past, that this fact alone would have made Max feel guilty. Guilty that he had changed Liz, guilty that she now would deal with the fears that he had grown up with his whole life.

There would be no guilt for this new Max, as he could realize that without changing her she'd be dead, and Liz dead simply was not an option. The fact that she was craving Tabasco just reiterated she was changing, because once back on Antar they figured out that the whole Tabasco fetish was more of a craving then a need. Their super efficient systems craved it because it boosted their metabolism.

"Maxwell!" Michael roared. "Maxwell!! Snap out of it and tell us what happened!"

"I'm sorry," Max said, reluctantly coming out of his thoughts. One look at Michael's face and he knew that Michael was about to explode.

"Maria? Did you, did you ask Maria?" Michael asked.

Michael had relayed his fears to Max about their one night together. What if he had left a pregnant Maria behind?

"She said, and I quote 'Tell him everything is umm just the way he left it, but that we need to have one hell of a long talk'," Max said. "Her Mom was there, so we had to be discreet."

"Thank God," Michael said, looking somewhat relieved.

Isabel looked confused. "That's all MARIA said? After learning all she has learned? Is she ok?"

Max chuckled. "I think the fact that her Mother was sitting there held in Miss Maria's comments."

"Alex was ok though, right?" Isabel said hopefully. "I mean, I know you couldn't really talk to him, but you didn't get a sense that his body was in danger or anything, right? Were Mom and Dad there? Are they ok?"

"Alex was fine, and I didn't feel any stress to his body so everything should be just the way I left it," Max said. "Mom and Dad looked great, and I told them that you love them and miss them."

Serena smiled to herself. These three children before her, well she guessed they weren't really children anymore, were so different from Zan, Vilandra, and Rath. Her children had been all about duty, about what was best for the planets. The first thing they would have asked was for information on the threat back on Earth, not how their loved ones were.

Serena thought, and not for the first time, that the Granilith knew what it was doing, and that Max, Michael, and Isabel didn't end up where they ended up on accident. Those loved ones were in their life for a definite reason, one the Granilith had foreseen.

"What about Agent Duff?" Serena asked.

"Kaleb is taking control of the situation," Max said. "I have no doubt that he'll be able to handle it. There is one more thing....Grandma, what we thought....We were right."

"Could you speak English Max?" Michael said.

Max sighed. He had a feeling that he had created the unbreakable bond with Liz, but had been in total denial back on Earth. The experience with Tess had made it undeniable, and he went to Serena with his fears.

When Tess had warped him and he fell for it, he really thought it was Liz. Max knew that even if he hadn't broken the warp he wouldn't have had sex with her, because certain parts of his body did not respond to her, even with the heated kisses, roaming hands, and the fact that he really thought she was Liz.

Max's body had always responded to Liz, well since he was around 12 years old or so. He just had to see Liz, think of Liz, be in the same block as Liz....He didn't even need to touch her and his traitorous body would respond, even if only partially, hence the reason for his rather expansive wardrobe of long shirts.

So if his body didn't respond when he thought that they were going hot and heavy at it, then it was more then the fact that it wasn't Liz, because he truly believed he was with her. No, it had to of been because his soul didn't recognize her, and Max knew his fears were correct when he was in the same room with Liz. Once he wasn't trying to deny it anymore, he could feel the pull, feel the bond.

"Well Michael, I guess I would have to say that you aren't the only married one in the room," Max said dully.

"What? When?" Isabel asked incredulously.

"When I healed her, she let me see her, all of her, no holding back. She let me see her soul," Max said. "What I've never told you and Michael was when I went back that night to talk to her, to make sure she was ok with everything she had learned, I reversed the connection and let her see me, all of me. At the time I told myself that it was because I wanted her to see that we were still the same people, that we weren't a threat, that I wasn't a monster. I couldn't bear the thought of her thinking that of me. But now I'm not so sure. Now I think my Antarian side just wanted to complete the marriage," he said looking down at the floor.

"Wow," Isabel breathed. "So why the long face? I would think the fact that you were married to Liz would send you into kart wheels and that you'd already be putting a white picket fence around the castle," she laughed as Michael snorted.

When Max didn't say anything Michael spoke up. "Really Max, you know you two belong together. I remember when we were just little kids you scaring the shit out of Isabel and me by asking if we thought Liz would marry an alien!"

"It's not that I'm unhappy that I'm married to her you guys," Max said quietly. "Part of me is doing kart wheels and wanting to abduct a dog from Earth for our future children to play with. But the other part realizes that this happened to Liz without her having all the facts. She had no choice. If I wouldn't have reversed that connection then she would still have a choice. I just don't like the fact that I bonded with her without her having all the facts. I'm not that kind of person."

"Oh, and what, I am Maxwell?" Michael said, this subject hitting a bit to close to home.

"That's not what I meant Michael!" Max exclaimed. "If anything, I understand more of why you did what you did with Maria. Thinking back, I had to reverse that connection, it was such a strong need, a need I couldn't fight. Part of me knew it was dangerous to give Liz so much information on us. Even though I trusted her, I still didn't know how she was handling everything. It was like I would die if I didn't do it."

"It actually makes sense now that I think of it," said Michael, looking a bit relieved. "I showed Maria me that night, like you said, all of me. Things, umm escalated from there and I couldn't stop. I knew what it would do if we 'sealed the deal', and I knew I should tell her, but I just couldn't stop," he finished, his last words a whisper.

"Look," Isabel said. "Neither one of you knew what a connection like that could do. There is no use feeling guilty about it."

"I agree," said Serena. "And I might add that in my opinion they are two very lucky humans," she said with a smile.

Max and Michael both sighed, and they both hoped that one day Liz and Maria would feel like they were lucky.

"At least they can leave Earth now if things get bad," Max said. At least that gave him some peace of mind.

______________________________________________________________________________

The group at the Valenti household were starting to break up and go there separate ways. Kaleb was already gone to contact some of the other shifters about the Duff situation, and Maria and Amy were just returning from Jim's bedroom after a talk about her being in the 'I unwillingly married an alien club.'

"Is there anything else Maria? Anything else you are keeping from me?" Amy asked in a stern voice. "I am a part of this now and I will not stand for any more secrets!"

"No Mom, no more secrets. I just...I am still dealing with it. I was going to tell you, but I needed to wrap my head around it first," Maria said, her eyes pleading with her Mom to understand.

"I can see it would be hard to deal with, but I'm your Mother for God's sake!" she exclaimed, drawing in a deep breath. Amy looked around the now nearly empty room and saw Alex and Katrina quietly talking to a rather distraught Liz.

She walked over to Katrina and sat down next to her. "What does this mean for my daughter, for Liz? This bond is unbreakable for as much as I've heard. What if they didn't know what they were doing? Does that change anything?" she asked frantically.

"Mom!" Maria protested. "Give them some room, alright. Liz is probably still in shock. Liz? Liz? Are you ok?"

Liz sighed. "I'll be fine Maria," she said, rubbing her temples. "Just when you think things can't get more confusing...."

"I'm sorry Liz," Amy said. "I am just a little upset," she said with a weak smile.

"No Ms. Deluca, you have every right to ask those questions," Liz said, giving her approval to Katrina.

"I really don't know what it means for Maria and Liz Amy," Katrina said. "I've never known an Antarian that married an Earthling before. I do know this-Max and Michael are bonded to Liz and Maria permanently. Whether they are bonded back to them remains to be seen. I guess if either one of them become interested in anyone else we'll find out."

"I think I already know," Liz said quietly.

Amy, Maria, and Katrina looked on at Liz in shock.

"Well you know I kind of became friends with Sean," Liz said and then hesitated.

"Oh God please tell me you didn't do anything with Sean!" Maria exclaimed.

Liz ran her hands over her face thinking about Sean. She had used him so selfishly since he came back to Roswell, and that was a source of great guilt for her. After the night she went to him and told him that Max broke her heart, attacked him, then told him she couldn't do it, he had quietly left Roswell to go live with his parents. It caused her even more guilt thinking that she was the reason he ran from Roswell.

"No, well nothing really umm major," Liz said and took a deep breath. "I did kiss him a couple of times," she admitted, "and the night they were leaving, I was so hurt by what Max had done, done with Tess that I was with him before I came to you Maria. I...I wanted to make the pain go away. I wanted to, I don't know, get back at Max? But I couldn't do it. It felt so wrong, wrong to the very root of my being."

'Oh God!' Liz thought. It had suddenly came to her that Max probably knew about those few stolen kisses.

"Well that answers that," Katrina said matter-of-factly.

"I...I didn't know. Oh God what Max must think of that," Liz said.

"You didn't know Liz, and I'm sure if you felt it was wrong Max knows that too," Alex said comfortingly.

"It was wrong, I knew it when I kissed him after our date. I was practically physically ill, but I contributed it to everything that was going on, how Max was getting closer to Tess. But I still kissed him again after that, I still..."

"Liz, Liz? Look at me. If there is one thing that Max is it's he's understanding. Hell it'll probably give him peace of mind to know that you are bound to him too?" Maria said.

"Maybe, I don't know. It's just so much to sort through again," Liz said, trying to reconcile the last of these revelations.

"So are you going to be alright Liz?" Alex asked as Liz nodded. "Ok, I'm going to see if Kaleb needs any help. If you need anything call me." He also wanted to ask if she was ok with the fact that Max had kissed her through his body, but it was just still to embarrassing to bring up. It could wait for another time.

"I'm going too," said Kyle. "I have a feeling the more help they have the better. We need to end this."

The Sheriff beamed with pride. "I'm with you Kyle. Count me in," he said as he stood to leave with Alex and Kyle.

I'm taking a bit of creative license with how fast any legal things happen. I'm not sure how fast you can get a court date in a small town, but I know for sure it can't happen that fast in a city. Hey, I'm allowed some chads too, right?

ultimatepickupline I am so sorry! I came down with a wicked cold this weekend and am just feeling human again. Since I made you guys wait I'll give ya half the chapter now!

IheartMax , Roswelllostcause, Addicted2AmberEyes katydid, nibbles2 thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying this!

Michelle in Yonkers I always wondered why Harvard too? Yes, it's an awesome school but not known for it's strength in the sciences. Business, Finance, Legal, yes, but not sciences. I think it was her Father that planted that in her mind from a really young age.

Vilandragirl I'm glad you liked my Tabasco explanation. I remember a friend of mine being on a diet and she added that stuff to her food all the time because it was supposed to increase your metabolism.

Chapter 21 A

It had been a week since Max's visit, and things were moving quickly for the Earthlings. Kaleb and Co. had left for Washington DC to do recon on Agent Duff. Knowing that Kivar no longer had powers, Agent Duff might panic now that she had no communication with Antar.

In the meantime, Liz and Maria shared their good news with their parents about their script. Amy was of course thrilled and extremely proud. Nancy Parker was beyond ecstatic that her daughter's dream had become a reality, and Jeff Parker was begrudgingly happy for his only daughter.

This also brought a resolution to one of the problems that was hanging over the I know an alien club members. Philip Evans had actually suggested it, and it turned out to be a great idea.

Since Liz would be turning 18 in October, she was only 3 months away from being a legal adult. Maria had even longer to go, and Philip, who would be acting as Liz and Maria's attorney for the negotiations on their script, had suggested that the minors be emancipated to make things smoother.

At first Jeff Parker did not like this idea at all. The thought of losing control over his only child drove him crazy, but for the first time in a long time Nancy Parker put her foot down. It was silly to argue over something that was going to happen in 3 months anyway.

Amy was key in helping the Parkers through this decision, and only Amy knew that this decision was more for Liz's safety then any legal hoops that they could avoid. This would take the threat of boarding school off the table early, leaving Liz with less stress.

Once the court date, which was only a formality since both parents agreed, had occurred, and the papers were signed, Liz made a decision. She would not bow down to her Father's vision of her life anymore. Perhaps she would get him to see things her way, or perhaps not, but either way she would be living her own life, which she desperately needed right now.

"So do you think your parent's would be upset if we didn't work her anymore?" Maria asked, sitting in one of the Crashdown's empty booths and she took her shoes off. They had just worked a long double shift and the Crash was finally closed. "God that feels good. The summer here just sucks with all these tourists."

Liz came over and plopped down in the seat across from her. Summer was the busiest time for them, and she was exhausted. "I think I'll finish the summer up here and maybe quit in the fall when things slow down," Liz said, thinking of her parents trying to train a new wait staff in the heart of tourist season.

"You're right," Maria said. "I guess I can stick it out for a couple more months."

Just then there was a click at the formerly locked front door of the Crash. In walked none other then Kyle and Kay.

"We're closed," Maria glared, rubbing her tired feet.

"Yeah, yeah," said Kyle. "Look Kay, it's the Desperate Housewives!"

Kay tried to stifle her laughter as Liz and Maria glared at Kyle. "That is so not funny Valenti," Maria said.

"Sure it is Maria," Kyle said. "You just got to laugh at this stuff or it'll drive you crazy. I mean, you are married to Michael for Christ's sake. If ever there was a situation that warranted jokes, it's gotta be that!"

Maria did the only thing she could think of in this situation and threw her shoe at Kyle, hitting him square upside the head.

"Jesus," said Kay. "Your not even technically brother and sister yet, but you sure do act like it!"

Amy had finally forgiven Jim for not letting her into the alien abyss, and once she realized why all their dates had been cancelled in the past their relationship had taken the fast track. They were planning on getting married at the end of the summer.

Kyle went over to Maria's booth and grabbed her legs, setting them on his lap. He began to rub her feet. "Sorry SIS, I was just trying to get you guys to lighten up."

"I tell you what Kyle, if you keep rubbing my feet like that I'd forgive you if you were the Anti-Christ," Maria said, reveling in the relief she was feeling.

Kay tentatively sat next to Liz, visibly tense.

"Are you alright Kay?" Liz asked.

"I'm...I'm fine, why do you ask?" Kay questioned.

"Probably because you look like you are going to faint or pass out from the stress of sitting there," Kyle said. "Ow!" he exclaimed as Kay kicked him under the table.

"Why would you be stressed sitting here? Oh..." Liz said. "Is it the whole Queen deal?" she said, feeling a bit uncomfortable herself.

"I...I guess," Kay said. "You have to realize that I grew up on stories about our King and Queen and how my life is meant to serve them. It's just a little strange to actually meet one of you."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better I feel a bit strange about the whole situation too," Liz said with a smile. "Please Kay, just act like I am any other kid your age. I am no Queen, just Liz Parker."

"For now," Kyle muttered under his breath as Kay kicked him again.

"Hey," Maria spoke up. "What was the deal with the bet anyway? How did you know Kay?"

Kay beamed at Kyle. "Well when I heard the story I just knew that they had performed the ritual. When Kyle and I came into the Crash that day and I met Liz, I knew it for certain. It's one of my gifts I guess you could say. I'm real good at reading energies, or aura's if you will, and Liz's had royalty written all over it. I don't know how I knew, I just did."

"And I didn't believe her," Kyle said, "which caused me to lose 10 bucks," he grumbled as Kay laughed.

Liz looked at Kyle and Kay. He had insisted that Kay was just a friend, and for all intensive purposes they did seem to be just friends, but maybe someday...Once he had healed properly from Tess's betrayal, they just might make one hell of a couple.

"So Kyle, how's the modeling coming?" Maria asked with a smirk. After Kal's revelation about Kyle's butt being all over LA Liz and Maria had promptly found out why.

Kyle was the model for a new designer cologne for men, and in the ad it was just a picture of him from behind with a tight pair of jeans, a cowboy hat, and an out of focus profile. He had just finished shooting a couple of commercials that were basically just of him walking away from the camera. It was beyond mortifying for Kyle, until he realized no one would identify him as the mysterious cowboy in the tight jeans.

He pushed Maria's feet to the floor as Maria moaned. "That's what you get!" he said. "It actually isn't all that bad. The money I'm going to get for the commercials, I'll be set. That combined with my Dad's job working recon with Kaleb...It seems we are getting a much needed break now financially."

After Kyle's Dad lost his job as the Sheriff things had been getting steadily worse at the Valenti household. The Sheriff now seemed to have a purpose again, and with Tess paying off their house they were finally back in the black.

"What about you guys, Ms. and Ms. Hollywood. The way Kal was talking you two should be rolling in it once those contracts are signed tomorrow," Kyle said.

Maria and Liz both blushed. Kal was right when he said a bidding war was about to break out. Several A-list stars had somehow (thank you Kal!) gotten the script in their hands and were salivating at the chance to act in it. This caused an all out war between the studios, earning Maria and Liz a rather large paycheck, one with high six figures that could easily turn into seven once the movie was set to be shot.

"Kyle, it's not nice to talk about money, " Liz said, feeling uncomfortable again.

"What's a little money talk between friends? Personally I think the first thing you should do is bronze the Jeta like people do those baby shoes. Max can have it flown back to Antar and it can be like a statue or something." Kyle said.

Maria, Liz, and Kay all laughed at that thought. "While I may be getting a new car, or at least I will be getting my Mom a new car, I think bronzing the Jeta is a bit overkill," Maria laughed.

"Well whatever you do you can't sell the Jeta," Kyle said. "It's like a piece of history or something."

"No worries Kyle, I don't think I'd ever do that," said Maria. "To many memories."

Liz laughed. "Yeah, like being abducted, shot at, ran off the road...."

"Hey, respect the Jeta!" said Kyle. "That thing has saved the world you know. Remember, it took us to destroy the big penis extension!"

Maria laughed. "Ok, ok Kyle, we'll make sure we save the Jeta from used car lot hell."

"Hey, when did you get back by the way?" Liz asked. "I thought you were going to DC with Kaleb and everyone?"

Kyle sighed. "I did for a couple of days, but they scheduled that commercial shoot and I had to get back. Imagine that, our world is possibly getting dangerous again but God forbid I miss my commercial shoot," he grumbled.

"That's what you get for being Kyle-the butt-Valenti," Kay laughed.

"It was a little bit of a relief though, DC made me nervous, with all the government types milling about," Kyle said. "I mean yeah, I'm getting better with my powers, but I was a bit freaked that I might do something accidentally.

"I can imagine," Liz said wistfully. They had been working on their powers with Kaleb for over 6 weeks, and the powers were hitting them full force now. Alex and Kyle's seemed to be developing quickly since they knew they existed and were actively working on them.

Kyle looked at Kay. They shared a look and Kyle spoke. "Have you two thought about going to Antar?" he asked.

Liz and Maria looked nervously at each other. Liz had spent the last week coming to terms with her Antarian marital status, with an experienced Maria lending her ear. No matter how much they talked about it, the subject of Antar just didn't come up, like it was Taboo.

"Not really," Liz said, taking in Kyle's surprised face. "We've been coming to terms with other things I guess. Talking about going to Antar would make it to real I think." she said, giving a guilty shrug.

"That's understandable," Kay said. "When Kal first called my Father, first told him the Royal Three were alive, I thought my whole world had ended. Like everything would be pre-destined for me now. I swore I wouldn't go to Antar even if I had to run away from home. Now it doesn't seem so bad though. It would be kind of nice living somewhere where I didn't have to hide this big huge part of myself."

"Or worry about your government putting you in a government facility and dissecting you," Kyle said as Liz shivered. "Oh, I'm sorry Liz. I know you saw some of what happened to Max," he said quietly.

"It's ok Kyle," Liz said softly. "So you are really thinking about living on Antar?"

"Not living there per say, but visiting. I'm thinking maybe after Graduation I'll see if I can go. We could use the cover story that we are back packing through Europe after Graduation since we'll have to stay 6 months. I think it at least deserves a chance, you know?" Kyle said.

"Yeah, that makes sense," Liz said. Since the Granilith could only be used every six months, she'd miss out starting college in the fall. Her Dad would be livid, but he wouldn't be able to stop her.

"With what you know Kay, do you think Max and Michael will be able to come back here by then?" Liz asked.

Kay shifted uncomfortably. "Liz, to be honest? Look what happened when the Granilith didn't have a King commanding it before. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it is something you can just abdicate. The Granilith picks you, gives you the seal. Unless he dies, he is King. I don't see how Max can ever leave Antar, especially since travel can only be made every six months."

Liz nodded. She figured as much, but it seemed so much more real hearing it from someone else.

"And spaceboy won't leave Max there by himself," Maria said quietly. "And Isabel won't leave Max and Michael there by their selves either. I think we need to face it-if we want to have them in our lives we are going to have to give up everything to go to another planet."

The four teens sat in silence pondering this thought.

Here's the rest of Chapter 21. It's short, but I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 21 B

Max paced back and forth in the air traffic control room, waiting for Michael to return.

"Max, you are going to wear a hole in the floor," Isabel said. "He's going to be fine," she said, holding her breath as well.

It was the first time any of them had left the planet, and Michael insisted it be him. It gave them a creepy sense of dejavu, considering Rath had left to see to his troops in the last life and was captured, luring out Max and Isabel. Kivar then assassinated them.

"Your Highness, General Guerin's ship has just entered the atmosphere," a soldier said from the terminal.

"Thank you," said Max. "Thank God," he said, looking relieved.

______________________________________________________________________________

"I told you it'd be fine," Michael said while traveling back to the castle. The country side wasn't the lush landscape in their memories, but it was slowly growing to become what it once was, with a little extra help from the Granilith. Antar wasn't an industrialized planet compared to the rest in the solar system, and it's main commerce was tourists and agriculture.

There was also a mineral named Greegan that grew rampant in the caves of Antar that could be molecularity manipulated by even those with weak powers. The power base on Antar was very diverse, with some not having that many more powers then the humans on Earth. Most people in the solar system could manipulate molecular structures, but some only had the power to manipulate things other then Greegan. Most of the people that could change the structure of the more complex molecules found on their solar system were Royalty.

So besides having the power of the Granilith, Antar also had the mineral that was universally used by all. The other planets countered this by becoming highly industrialized, focusing on things like communication and technology. It had cost them dearly though, as most of the other planets were affected with bad atmospheres and very little nature.

Max sighed and looked out the window of the hover car. "I know you said that Michael, but I couldn't help but think it was too soon to leave Antar." One of the things that Max insisted upon was when the Granilith Council resumed the next month that each planet have a person that was voted on by the people, just not the royals. If it were up to him it would only be the person that was democratically voted in, but he learned his lesson from Zan's memories and knew that change took time.

Michael had went with some troops to Hanar's planet, as rumblings could be heard of people being coerced into voting for the cousin of Hanar. Max wanted it to be crystal clear to the people of all the planets that this type of behavior would not be tolerated, and that Antar supported each and every one of them.

Michael's mere appearance on the planet made Hanar's goons back off, and the election went off without a hitch. A man named Preston who had been on the team to find a faster way to Earth had been voted in, and he notoriously hated Kivar. The only thing that kept him alive over the years was his vast knowledge of space.

"I think we really need to align ourselves with this Preston Max," Michael said. "The people are to interested in what went on while we were on Earth. There is to much curiosity, and I don't think it is just for knowledge's sake."

"I agree," said Max. "I don't want anyone setting their sites on Earth. From the possessions the leaders learned how easy it is to manipulate Earth's minerals, and the rumors are spreading like wild fire. I can't let something happen to our adoptive planet just because we were sent there."

"There are also things there that can be used against us," Isabel said. "The Royals have a hard time keeping their mouths shut, and the rumors of you and Michael having great loves on Earth can be heard in the farthest reaches of the planets."

Max sighed. Thousands of generations of his descendants would have to protect Earth until they caught up to Antar in evolution. Well, if he ever had any children that is.

"Well rumor or no rumor, it sure isn't stopping the women from here. I think I got ten marriage proposals while I was away," Michael grumbled.

Max, Michael and Isabel had become the fascination of the worlds, and many women and men were very aggressive in their pursuit of them. While Max and Michael found it annoying, Isabel thought it was funny watching her brothers squirm while women threw themselves at them.

"We aren't going to be able to leave Antar and go back to Earth, are we Max?" Isabel asked quietly. It was the discussion none of them wanted to have.

Max scratched behind his ear. "Probably not, Isabel," he said sadly. They had a duty to all these people, billions of beings. It wasn't something they could just ignore and be on their merry way back to Earth.

"But, with this man Preston, maybe we can find a way to have both worlds," Max said. "A faster way of traveling, or a way of using the granilith more frequently then every six months. If Earth is in danger, we will need to get there quickly. We will need to monitor it, and I will not continue to allow people to be abducted."

"I hope so Max, because if Liz, Maria....Alex...our parents, all of them...If they don't come to Antar I don't know if I'll be able to handle it," Isabel said.

"Me either Iz," Max said as Michael turned his head to look out the window. Maria not being with him just wasn't an option he was willing to entertain.

Just then the control panel of the hover car lit up. Max pressed a button and a screen popped up.

Larek showed on the screen, wearing a huge smile. "King Max, Princess, General, I have great news. We have found Kivar.........."

Well imagine that, the rest of chapter 21 yesterday and now all of 22. I'm going to try to have another part up by Sunday night, but I can't promise anything :D

Chapter 22

By the beginning of August things were starting to calm down for the humans. Liz and Maria had sold their script and were emancipated from their parents. They were hired by Kal to write a story he had kicking around in his head, so they were spending a lot of time on that.

Kyle's commercials had been a big success bringing in a ton of income for the Valenti household. You couldn't turn on a TV without seeing Kyle's jean clad butt slowly sauntering away from the camera. It had become a big secret, who this mysterious cowboy was, with many people wondering who that butt belonged to.

Jim and Amy were busy planning their wedding for the end of August. They had decided to both sell their houses and buy a new one together. Both houses held old ghosts that were better left behind. Jim had started a Private Investigator business once he was done helping Kaleb with Agent Duff. While some humans frequented his services, the majority of his business came from checking on different alien type rumors or occurrences.

Agent Duff had been properly taken care of by Kaleb. If you asked any of the humans what that meant, they wouldn't have a clue. If you asked Alex what that meant, he'd say you don't want to know. One of the big problems they had faced was Agent Duff had actually let some people in on her alien status in the Bureau.

When she could no longer reach Kivar she had taken things into her own hands and started finding allies on Earth, allies that would see through the fright of finding out their were aliens on Earth and focus on the power that could be had.

Valenti, Alex, and Kyle (until he had to leave to shoot his commercial) were doing recon on her and found all humans that knew of the aliens existence. Alex, who in an ironic turn of events was developing powers much like the ones that Tess had. He could change memories, so he changed the humans memories to where they thought Agent Duff was a nut case and took away anything they saw that might have proved she was an alien.

Now all they could do was hope upon hope that they had gotten everyone she had told. Hopefully when they learned of the Agent's unfortunate 'suicide' anyone that might be left would understand they should let this particular secret lie. Kaleb was 99.9% sure that everyone had been taken care of, but considering everything that has happened in the past, 99.9% is not close enough. They needed to remain vigilant.

Alex had shared this information with Max when he did a partial abduction, talking to Alex in his mind. He apologized profusely for using Alex's lips to kiss Liz, and Alex chuckled that it was alright except for the random Kyle Valenti joke.

Liz had been thinking more and more about Kyle and Kay's revelation that they would be heading for Antar after graduation to check it out. It seemed like a fair idea, one that would give them a chance to know how their lives would be like on that planet. She just didn't know if she could give up everything she ever dreamed of and perhaps her parents too to go live on Antar, Max or no Max.

As she watched her Father tally his daily receipts, she decided it was time to have a good old sit down with dear old Dad.

"So did we make a million dollars today?" Liz asked. "My feet sure feel like we did," she smiled.

"Not quite a million, but not to shabby," Jeff said. "You know, I really appreciate you and Maria not bailing on me. I wonder what Hollywood would think of their two newest shiny stars waitressing at an alien themed restaurant?"

"It's not a problem daaaaahlink," Liz said, giggling. "Really Dad, it's no big deal. You were our major source of movie money to begin with, and all those movies we saw prepared us for our new career."

"Well I'm still really grateful," he said. "I assume that once school starts up I should look into hiring two new staff members though, right? With school and your writing you won't have a lot of extra time. Senior year is important kiddo, just because you aced those SAT's doesn't mean Harvard is a sure thing."

"I kind of wanted to talk to you about that...get your opinion," Liz said. "What would you think if I took a trip after graduation, maybe 6 months long, to you know, do the backpacking through Europe thing? I'd miss out on the first semester of college, but there would be no reason why I couldn't start the second semester."

"This sounds like a hair brained Maria scheme," Jeff grumbled.

"Actually, it's a hair brained Kyle scheme," Liz retorted. "Just a bunch of us, you know, me, Maria, Kyle, Alex, maybe that new girl Kay...."

"And maybe Max Evans?" Jeff asked, eyebrows raised.

"Maybe? Who knows Dad, he's just getting to know his family after all these years." Liz said.

Jeff snorted. "His 'family'. After all the Evans did for him and his sister, they just up and left them."

Liz looked at her Father angrily. "The Evans totally understand Dad. It was not their Uncle Kal's fault that his sister left them out there. Max and Isabel have wondered about where they came from their whole lives, about who would just leave them like that. If the Evan's are fine with it you have no right to judge them!"

Jeff sighed. "Alright, alright, maybe that wasn't fair. God knows Max Evans is just perfect."

"Why are you always like that when it comes to him?" Liz said enraged. "He has never been anything but polite to you."

"And how has he been to you Liz? Why did you run away to Florida last year? Why did you mope around for most of your Junior year of high school? Oh, it couldn't be because of the perfect Max Evans, now could it?" he said angrily.

Liz looked down at her hands. "I never said Max was perfect Dad, and Max was not the cause of all my problems. Believe me, I gave him just as many as he gave me. Trust me when I say that he is the kindest, gentlest person I know, and he would never intentionally hurt me."

"Well I wouldn't know that, would I? I begged you to let me get to know your new friends, but did you? No. It was like you had to hide them, like they were some kind of secret. Liz, I am your Father and I can't help but worry when you shut me out of such a big part of your life," he said.

"Dad, I admit...That was my fault, and I shouldn't have done that. It was like I was testing my wings, feeling my independence," Liz said. "You know, most teenagers don't tell their parents everything."

Jeff looked straight into Liz's eyes. "But I thought we always had a much better relationship then most teenagers and their parents. All I know is everything changed once Max was in the picture. Even now, God he's who knows where and your whole life is still changing because of his Uncle. You are talking about not going to college when it has always been your dream to go to Harvard and become a scientist," Jeff said with frustration.

"Dad, I'm 17 years old, and sometimes dreams change. Sometimes we realize that we aren't cut out for that dream, or we realize a new one. I know that you putting that poster above my bed was an inside joke, but it really did effect me. Maybe I just don't want to go to Harvard anymore, or maybe I will. I am changing Dad, and it's natural...normal...This is what people do," Liz said, pushing her hair behind her ears in frustration.

"I have never said that you have to go to Harvard," Jeff defended. "You were the one that said it was your dream to work in the molecular biology department there since God, you were what, in 6th grade?" Jeff said. "I have done everything in my power to make sure that dream comes true for you. Is that so bad? Is that so terrible?"

"No Dad, it's not," Liz said quietly. "It's incredible really, and I love you so much for that. But think about what you said...I was in 6th grade. Maybe it's that I've just grown out of it, maybe it's because I can't stomach some of the things a scientist does. I mean Dad, I could barely dissect a fetal pig! If it wasn't for how disappointed you would be in my GPA if I did the written report instead I would have never been able to get through it! It just felt morally wrong. What kind of scientist would I be?" she asked, her eyes pleading with her Dad to understand.

"Why didn't you just tell me that Liz?" her Father asked incredulously. "You would do something that was against what you believe in because you assumed you'd make me upset?"

"Yes," Liz said, feeling bad because it was a partial lie. If Katrina hadn't filled in for her she would have had to of done the written report, because there is no way she would ever be able to dissect anything.

"This is what I'm talking about Liz, why didn't you just tell me that?" Jeff said.

"Oh I don't know, maybe because if I wasn't the perfect version of what you wanted me to be you'd send me to some boarding school far away from my family and friends???" Liz exclaimed.

"How did you know about that?" Jeff said, his eyes narrowing. "Did your Mother tell you that?"

Liz thought quickly. "No, I saw the brochures in the mail before you got them. It didn't take long to put two and two together," she lied, worried that she had just caused more trouble for her Mom.

"Well the reason I didn't tell you was because I didn't want the threat hanging over your head. I wanted to trust you, but the way you have been acting doesn't let me trust you." Jeff said. "Skipping school, staying out all night in the desert, being so secretive...It was never about you being perfect Liz, it was about you not messing up your future."

"Dad, I know that *you* of all people know the bad things that teenagers do. I don't drink, I don't do drugs. I get straight A's. So I skipped school once? So I fell asleep on accident out in the desert with my boyfriend. Compared with what I know other kids, you should be thanking God that's the only trouble I've been in," Liz said angrily.

"Look Liz, I know that you are having an exciting year. You've probably made more money with that one script then I will in my whole life. But education is important, and I wouldn't be a good Father if I just told you to throw that all away because you had a windfall," Jeff sighed. "But it's not like I can stop you from wandering aimlessly around the globe, now is it? Hell, go now! Why finish high school? You don't need my permission, in the eyes of the law your an adult with lots of money to burn."

"Dad....Dad, that's not how I want it to be," she said quietly. "I didn't say that I don't want to go to college, just maybe start a semester later. See the world a bit with my friends while I have the chance. I...I just wanted to talk to you about it and look how you got. And you wonder why I haven't been discussing things with you. Maybe I just wanted your blessing," she said, looking down at her feet.

"Well if that's what you're looking for, you aren't going to get it," he said firmly.

"Then I guess there isn't anything to say, because as you pointed out so eloquently I don't exactly need it!" she exclaimed, unshed tears in her eyes. With that she turned and ran out of the restaurant to their apartment.

Jeff ran his fingers through his hair and punched the table in front of him. "Dammit!"

Nancy Parker, who had been taking inventory in the nearby backroom came out of the swinging doors to the main area of the restaurant.

"You're losing her," she said quietly. "You are losing her by not listening, and I'll just say this once. You may be willing to lose your only child, but I'm not."

Nancy slowly turned around and headed upstairs. She had finally found her backbone, and surprisingly enough it was made of steel. She made her way to Liz's room, where she found her daughter crying her eyes out, sitting on the bed with her knees pulled up to her chest. She looked like such a little girl at this moment.

She gently knocked on the door jam and Liz looked up. "Can I come in honey?" Nancy asked. Liz nodded and Nancy sat down on the bed, taking her daughter in her arms.

"I tried to talk to him Mom...I tried..." Liz said as she started another round of tears.

"Shhhh, shhhh it'll be ok baby, he just needs some time," Nancy said soothingly stroking her hair. Neither woman knew Jeff was standing in the hall listening, a look of pain and confliction on his face.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Liz was having a hard time concentrating on her training. She just kept thinking about her Dad and the argument from last night. The one lesson she took away from the last two years of her life is nothing is ever what it appears to be, and there are always two sides to a story.

As much as she wanted to think that he was a pig headed controlling jerk she knew that he had his valid points. She had always said she wanted to go to Harvard, she always wanted to be a scientist. If Max and the alien abyss hadn't come into her life she had no doubt that is exactly where she would have ended up.

The problem was she couldn't explain her reasons for change to her Father. She couldn't tell him that she had started writing because she was brought back from the brink of death by her lab partner that fateful September day. She couldn't tell him that after said lab partner came back from the future to warn her of the demise of the world she had stopped writing, stopped really living.

She couldn't explain to him that once she picked that pen up again she realized how much she had missed it, how much she just plain loved to write. That really had nothing to do with Max Evans, he was just perhaps the reason why she started to begin with.

She couldn't tell him that perhaps a big part of her still thought about Harvard, but her life had taken a sharp U-turn due to the fact that she knew aliens existed, that she in fact was turning into one of these aliens, and not only that was the supposed Queen of those aliens.

All Liz could do was hope her Mom was right and that her Dad just needed time. Right now she had to concentrate on Kaleb, or otherwise their training session would go on and on. It was amazing how much he was like Michael, and her Queen status only went so far when he knew her controlling her powers was a matter of survival.

"Nice job, Kyle," Kaleb said as Kyle blasted a boulder into oblivion and then reassembled it. Kyle seemed to take after Michael when it came to powers, his being very destructive.

"Thanks," said Kyle, looking pleased.

Alex had pulled off a small blast and reassembled it, his powers being more mental. "Good thing I am confident in my manhood," said Alex, chuckling.

"Alright Liz, let's see what you got," said Kaleb, knowing full well Liz hadn't met anywhere near her potential. As Queen her powers should exceed all of them.

Liz, fully frustrated with her situation and not seeing a way to fix it anytime soon, felt the power building within her. It grew and grew and grew until she could no longer hold it back. She held her arm out to the quarry wall and blasted a hole through it that was so big the Jeta could drive thought it.

Kyle let out a low whistle and Alex looked shocked. "Niiiiiice," said Kaleb and Liz struggled to fill the hole back up.

"I don't know where that came from," Liz shrugged, slightly blushing.

"You just have to stop being afraid LIz," said Kaleb. "As Queen you have great power, the bonding process incorporates that. You need to be strong in case you have to protect your children. Now listen up. I want you all to work on your more specialized powers. Alex, try to get some of Kyle's memories, but don't change them. Kyle try to block him out."

"Why do I have to be the one with the alien walking around in my head?" Kyle said incredulously. Kaleb gave him a look that shut him up at once. "Just look for today's memories, is that ok with you Kyle," Kaleb said.

"Yeah, ok," Kyle grumbled.

"Now Liz, I really want to work on your Astral projection. Eventually you'll be able to change places with your projected self, which is quite a useful mode of transportation. This power is usually exclusive to the Queen, and if I would have learned of this before I would have known your status," he said sheepishly.

"Do you remember how you reached Max in New York?" Kaleb asked.

"Kind of?" Liz said. "I was desperate, Isabel gave me some juice, I thought of Max and I was there. I really don't know how I did it."

"Well let's start with something small, maybe like wanting to be on the other side of the quarry, ok?" Kaleb said.

"Ok," said Liz, closing her eyes to concentrate. It was hard to concentrate with all that was going on. She sure wished she could talk to Max. Even before all the madness that was their lives, they had been friends. She could use one about now.

An emergency meeting of the Granilith Counsel had been called to sentence Kivar. The leaders of the other worlds sat begrudgingly next to their democratically elected counterparts.

Max sat on his throne with Serena on one side, Isabel on the other. Michael sat on Serena's other side. "Bring him in," Max ordered.

A man, who was once so powerful, was led in wearing heavy shackles that pulsed with energy. It was hard to believe that this emaciated man in front of him had done so much damaged, so much pain. This fragile shell of a man had tortured billions of beings and held them in a state of terror for nearly 50 years.

"Kivar," Max stated. "You have been charged with horrendous war crimes against the Crown of Antar, the people of Antar, and all the worlds in our solar system. The Granilith Counsel has found you guilty of these crimes and sentenced you to death. Do you have anything to say before your sentence is carried out?"

Kivar looked up at Max with shallow, evil eyes. He grinned an horrid smile and started to speak, but before he could, gasps could be heard around the room.

"Uh, Max?" Queen Serena said. Max turned his head to look at her and saw that a faded version of Liz was standing in between them.

"Max....." he heard come out of her voice so softly it was like a caress. Kivar took this moment to lunge at Max, but Michael was quicker, blowing him to bits.

Liz shimmered out as Max tried to unsuccessfully touch her.

"Well that was anti-climatic," Michael said sarcastically.

"King Max, why did you not tell us we have a Queen?" Larek asked, knowing exactly who that Queen was.

"Oh boy," said Isabel.

Wow, Liz is really strong if she can project to Antar. (I personally don't believe that Jeff should be getting all the blame for perssuring Liz to go to Harvard. No matter what she says, it was her dream too.) But, it's good she spoke to her father and hopefully they can repair their differences.
I don't think he should either tequthisy, but he had his hand in it. He's not letting her change, but after hearing your kid say that's all she ever wanted to do her whole life it would be hard to understand I suppose. The character of Jeff is so hard because any way you try to look at him in a cannon way is difficult because he was written so all over the place in the show.

WOW!! Well it seems that Liz is a lot more powerful than she thought. I think she kind of overshot the other side of the quarry though. I am wondering how all parties will take this. Great Update!! Hope to see more soon!!
I about choked on my coffee laughing when I read 'overshot the other side of the quarry....lol

Chapter 23 A

The Granilith Counsel room broke out in absolute chaos. Michael had just blown Kivar to bits in front of everybody....everybody in five worlds as the sentencing was being projected to the masses. Everybody in five worlds knew there was also a Queen of Antar that apparently had been hidden from the public. While the women celebrated the demise of Kivar, they grieved the loss of the single status of Antar's most eligible bachelor.

Outrageous cries about withholding information, intrusion on the Granilith Counsel, and the quick demise of Kivar could be heard around the room. Max had dealt with the other Royals with kid gloves since he returned, feeling uncomfortable being the high King. He did not want it to look as if he would have the last word on everything, but when he heard the disgruntled complaints about Liz and several snide remarks about an Earthling as a Queen, Max snapped.

"ENOUGH!" he bellowed, causing shocked stares around the room. Most of the people there figured Max would be easy to manipulate because of his easy going nature with his King status. To hear him speak forcefully caused great surprise for the diplomats.

"I want to be perfectly clear when I say this, so make sure you listen well," he said in a much calmer tone that for some reason was much more terrifying than if he were yelling. "I am the King of Antar, and I will not have you second guessing any of my decisions. The Queen has been hidden from public knowledge for her own safety, and judging by how far she just astral projected I don't think anyone can complain about her power base and yes she is human."

Max took a deep breath. "I will not have my decisions judged by you and I suggest you remember who I am. I may not have been born here, but with the memories of my Father and the lessons I learned from Earth I intend to rule justly and with compassion. This does not mean in any certain terms that you will treat me with any less respect then my position deserves. I am the King of Antar and I am here to be a servant to the people and help them rebuild their lives."

Quiet murmurings could be heard around the room. "And one more thing. Elizabeth, the name of my Queen, is also your Queen. I will not tolerate any disrespect towards her. EVER," he said meticulously as the people in the room silently nodded their heads to show they understood his words.

"Now I believe there is much to celebrate. Kivar is dead. His reign of terror is over and now we must all band together to make a better place for us all to live...A better place for our children and grandchildren. While we must never forget what happened during Kivar's dictatorship, now is our time to heal and grow." Max said.

As Max got up to leave, celebrations were taking place in five worlds. For the first time in a long time people had hope for the future, and belief that they finally had a King worth following. Pictures in the hologram news, the Whirlwind Galaxies version of a newspaper, in the coming days would talk of the People's King and Queen, showing a picture of a very much in love Max trying to touch a transparent Liz.

Later that night Max and Michael were busy getting ready for a celebration dinner with the diplomats.

"I still can't believe that Liz projected that far," Michael said in awe as he attached the chain to his grey pants.

"It really was a very Maria thing to do, wasn't it? Showing up at the Counsel, like 'Hear I am people!' There was a slight power shift in the Granilith, so I think she tapped into some of it's energy somehow."

Isabel breezed in wearing a sparkling red dress that looked as if it were made of rubies.

"Michael!" Isabel said. "You are NOT wearing that chain on your pants!" she insisted.

"Whatever," Michael said. "Oh King Maxwell, may I wear the chain on my pants?" he smirked.

Max rolled his eyes at Michael. Yes, they would tease him endlessly about his King speech, but he wouldn't forget how right afterwards they had tears of pride and Michael, Isabel, and Serena told him how proud they were of him.

"Leave him alone Isabel," Max said, wishing his own shirt had more buttons on it. The King always wore white or cream for formal occasions, and Max's outfit consisted of a loose cream shirt that only buttoned half way and cream pants, The material was breezy and light, reminding Max of an outfit a man would wear on Earth to get married on a beach.

Isabel sighed. "Fine, be heathens," she said as she watched Max zap a couple more buttons on his shirt. "I've arranged the seating to where Preston will be by Michael. Do you think you can talk to him casually about his space technology without brow beating the man?"

"Yes Isabel," Michael said annoyed. "I don't know why you two don't think I can be subtle."

Max and Isabel looked at each other and broke into laughter at the thought of Michael being subtle.

"Well I can be!" Michael exclaimed, causing them to laugh harder. Michael tried to suppress a grin, tried again, and finally laughed right along with them. Queen Serena entered seeing this, and smiled to herself. It had been decades since such joy had been seen in the castle.

Max sat at the head of the long dining table listening to Siro drone on and on about how his country house had been demolished by Kivar. This was one of the main reasons why he had insisted on a democratically elected leader to sit on the Granilith Counsel. Siro was more worried about his country home then the scores of cities that had been decimated by Kivar. He was sure that if he didn't have his counterpart to keep him in check, he'd be asking for his home to be restored before places his people relied on for their income.

Michael, with his mind bent on being subtle, listened as Preston expressed his gratitude to him over his protection during the elections. "If it wasn't for you General Guerin I am sure Hanar's cousin would be sitting in this seat right now. I can't thank you enough for your support."

"No thanks are needed, Preston," Michael said. "King Maxwell just wanted a fair election. So, did you share all your travel information to Earth with Kivar or can we get there quicker then 5 years?"

Isabel, overhearing this statement choked on her drink. So much for being subtle. Michael smiled at her. Subtle was for wimps and the weak hearted.

"My life would have been in danger if I had not shared all the information I had," Preston said. "I couldn't risk it." He accidentally knocked over Michael's water glass, and handed him a napkin. As he released it, the word "Later" appeared on it. Michael's mouth turned upwards in a slight smile. If there was one thing he knew, it was that a man who would challenge a Monarchy's family in a very unwelcomed election would most certainly take risks.

______________________________________________________________________________

Maria and Liz sat cross legged on the couch together over a tub of vanilla ice cream. Maria wrinkled her nose everytime she saw Liz pour a little Tabasco on her spoon.

"God that is so GROSS," Maria exclaimed. "If being changed means I'll have to do that.....ick."

"I'll tell you what Maria, it is pure heaven," Liz said closing her eyes in delight as she spooned another bit of ice cream and Tabasco into her mouth. She opened her eyes in surprise.

"If being changed? No I won't be changed? No I am going to be an old wrinkled woman while you are still young but at least I won't be eating Tabasco?" Liz asked.

"I've come to a decision Liz, and even though it is scary, I'm going to do it. I'm going to ask Max to change me," she said.

"Oh Maria," Liz said, dropping her spoon in the carton and hugging her best friend. "I'm so glad you decided that. I never wanted to push you, I just couldn't even do that, but if you wouldn't have decided to, I just don't know what I would do!"

"Hey, hey, hey, you are smooshing the ice cream Spacegirl!" Maria said.

Liz laughed. "I think Spacegirl is more befitting you!"

"Who's a Spacegirl?" Alex asked, coming into the new large Valenti/Deluca livingroom.

"That would be Maria, now that she's decided to umm go green," Liz said with a giggle.

"Well you know what they say, once you go green you don't go back," Alex joked as the girls both groaned.

Alex plopped down on the floor in front of the girls. "For real Maria? You are going to do it?" he questioned.

"Yup. As soon as Max gets his ass back here or I go up there. According to Kaleb I don't have to much longer, I have to be under 18 for it to work." Maria said.

Alex squeezed her hand. "I'm really glad that you decided to go through with it. I can't imagine an extra 60 or 70 years of my life without you."

"I know, and I really appreciate that you guys let me come to this on my own. I really needed to do that," Maria said.

"So what was the turning point for your decision?" Liz asked.

"Yeah, this just seems to be a day of big leaps," Alex said, as Jim and Amy had just gotten married that day. They were currently on a plane heading for a Hawaiian honeymoon, and Liz and Alex were staying with Maria and Kyle.

"Who's leaping to where?" asked Kyle as he entered the room.

"Maria's decided to go green," Alex answered.

"Outstanding! I just hope Michael lets Max do it...." he said.

Kay, who entered behind Kyle slapped him upside the head.

"Of course Max will do it Kyle, why wouldn't he?" Liz asked.

"Well think about it. You know how guys don't want to teach irrational girlfriends to use a gun? Well think about Maria with powers. If you were her boyfriend would you want her to have powers?" Kyle asked.

"Actually, I would," came a voice from the doorway.

"Michael?" Maria whispered.

Chapter 23 B

"Michael?" Maria whispered softly.

Michael drew in a deep breath as he drank in the site of Maria sitting cross legged on the couch with a spoon hanging half way to her mouth. "In the flesh," he said with a big grin.

As Michael started to advance into the living room Liz jumped up and produced an enormous golden shimmering shield, blocking him from entering. "How do we know you are really Michael?" she asked.

Michael stood with his hands on his hips, smirk on his face. He then stepped through the shield. "The shield's don't work on your family Liz," he said quietly. Liz sat in stunned silence. Michael had just called her family. While they had never been the best of friends it wasn't like they didn't get along, but for some reason this statement caused a lump to grow in the back of her throat.

Maria then launched herself from the couch straight at Michael. He barely had time to see her coming and her little body almost knocked him flat on his butt. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist and kissed him soundly.

"I am so," -she kissed him- "going to" -she kissed him- "kick" -she kissed him- "your ass."

As the teens looked on wondering if Michael was going die from either getting his ass kicked or lack of breath, they noticed Kaleb standing in the doorway. "Why don't we go ummm outside for awhile and give them some privacy," he said as the teens reluctantly got up. Maria and Michael were now kissing in earnest like they didn't know anyone else was alive.

As they walked to the patio Alex turned to Kaleb. "Is Michael the only one that came back?" he asked tentatively.

"Yes he is," Kaleb said, feeling compassion for the crestfallen looks on Alex and Liz's face. "He'll explain everything when he's done with his reunion with Maria."

The reunion with Maria was going splendidly as Michael had somehow found the couch and was now laying on top of his wife, kissing her like crazy.

In a brief moment of sanity Maria recalled a conversation she had with Liz a couple of weeks ago........

"I mean it Liz, even if we decide to go with this whole weird alien Samantha Genie marriage thing we've got to make them work for it. Michael thinks he was a stonewall? Ha! I'll show him a stonewall!"

"If this is a stonewall, I can't wait to see what happens when it's gone," Michael said nipping at her ear.

Maria placed both hands on his chest and shoved him apart from her roughly. "That's it buddy boy, get off me!" she said as Michael sighed and sat up, pulling Maria from her horizontal position.

"You just never learn when to stop talking, do you?" she asked.

"Nope," he said. "And you wouldn't want me any other way."

"Ha!" was all Maria could come up with.

"I know I wouldn't want you any other way. Dramatic, impossible, demanding...." Michael said.

"Oh gee, be still my heart. No wonder you had to trick me into marrying you!" she cried.

"Maria...." Michael warned.

"Don't you Maria me Mister. You were the one with all the information. You were the one that let me think my best friend was dead. You were the one that slept with me knowing we would be bound the rest of our lives! I knew none of it! Nothing, not a thing, not one little bii..." she was cut off by Michael's mouth.

He broke the kiss. "Feel better now?" he asked.

"Yes," she said. "I just want to know why Michael, why you thought you couldn't tell me."

Michael ran a frustrated hand through his hair. "I'm assuming Alex told you how dangerous things were then, right? Now I have to say I almost did tell you what was going on when we faked Alex's death. Seeing you in so much pain....It was unbearable. But Max talked me into running the scenario with my powers, and every time you went and told Liz, and I don't blame you for that. We were so close to getting Tess, so close to getting her to Antar, that we couldn't risk it. Can you understand that?"

Maria nodded. "But what about the marriage deal?" she asked, looking up at him with big green eyes.

"Maria," he began. "I'm probably going to mess this all up but you deserve an explanation. I never opened myself up to anyone before, not completely anyway. Not to Max or Isabel, and even Rath never did to Zan or Vilandra. Rath's life was cake compared to mine, with lots of family and love. But he couldn't trust, couldn't open his heart. I think the Granilith had a purpose for us to be sent here, and my purpose was to meet you."

He took a deep breath and continued, trying not to be distracted by the tears threatening to fall from Maria's eyes. "I meant everything I said that night Maria, and after I let you see me, I couldn't not complete the bond. It was like something took over me. Yes, I knew that I would be bound to you for the rest of my life and that you probably wouldn't be bound to me, but I didn't care and I still don't. Bond or no bond I would never want anyone but you. Ever. I love you Maria...."

Maria looked into Michael's brown eyes that were shining with tears. All the reasons she had thought of to tell him to go to hell were now gone. All the doubts and insecurities of a life they would lead together were gone. All she saw was Michael, and his love for her.

"I love you too Spaceboy," she said, kissing him gently. "But you still have a lot of ass kissing to do."

"Which cheek should I start with?" he asked raising his eyebrow. Maria hit him with a couch pillow. "Ok, ok, I give," he said. Michael sighed as he was used to having to do a lot of ass kissing in his two years of knowing Maria.

The others had been patiently waiting for close to two hours, well, impatiently waiting but they really had no choice. At some point they noticed that Michael and Maria had left the living room, and they now made their reappearance on the bohemian decorated patio.

They walked out of the big french doors hand in and. "So, uh, Michaels's here," Maria said, looking like every part of her body was glowing.

Everybody stood up and Alex walked towards Michael. "How are you man?" Alex asked, extending his hand. "Decent," said Michael, pulling Alex into a manly hug. He bumped fists with Kyle, and looked at Liz.

"Max has a strict no bowing policy on Earth, so you'll have to settle for this Queenie," he said as he pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead.

Liz hugged him back. "It's really good to see you Michael," she said earnestly.

"Ditto," he said and then the most delicious thing he had ever smelled hit his nose. "Oh my God Pizza! Kaleb, you are the best man," he said, looking at the Pizza and Tabasco sitting on the table.

When Kaleb got the call from Michael, an additional BlackBerry was left at the Pod Chamber, he asked him where he needed to go. All Michael said was, "Maria, Pizza, Tabasco."

Michael sat down at the table and grabbed a piece of pizza, he sprinkled it liberally with Tabasco and took a huge bite. "Mmmmmm," he said, looking like he was in heaven.

He took in all the expectant eyes staring straight at him. "What?" he asked, his mouth half full.

"Jesus Michael, at least finish swallowing before you talk. I see your table manners haven't improved since you went away," Maria said.

"Well I know you probably missed your pizza and all, but we weren't really expecting to see you," Liz said. "Is something wrong? Did something happen?"

"Oh," Michael said, forgetting they didn't know the reason for his visit. "No, everything is alright. I'm just testing out a new way to travel. Well, we've been testing it for a week really, but we finally found a way that the Granilith can be used to come here more frequently then every six months."

Alex smiled. "That's great man, how did that happen?"

"I'll tell you what, why don't you fill me on on Agent Duff while I finish eating and then I'll tell you the whole story. It'll save me some bruises," he said, looking at Maria.

Kaleb, Alex, and Kyle filled Michael in on the situation with Agent Duff. While they were pretty sure the threat was gone, they still were on the look out for anyone that might have missed.

"Good, good," Michael said, wiping his mouth. "Great work Kaleb, I knew we could count on you," he said as Kaleb beamed.

"Now for the traveling issue," Michael said. "About a month ago, when Liz made her little appearance during Kivar's trial, I met a man named Preston during the celebration dinner."

"Wait, wait, that was real?" Liz asked. During the training session, Liz thought she had a vision that she was in a room filled with people, Max sitting on a throne. She thought it was a delusion because there was no way she could astral project that far, right? Kaleb had agreed with her, so they chalked it up to the stress she had been under and the fact that it was the end of the training session so she was tired.

"Yes, it sure was, and you caused quite a stir," Michael said. "We hadn't told anyone about anything that happened on Earth, but after you did that in front of five worlds full of people we didn't have much of a choice."

"Five worlds?" Liz asked.

"Well it was Kivar's sentencing. It was being broadcast to everywhere in our solar system," Michael said.

"So Kivar is really dead?" Kaleb asked, remembering part of Liz's hallucination was Michael blowing Kivar up.

"Yes, he is gone," Michael said.

"Oh God Michael I'm sorry. We were training and I swear I didn't know what I was doing," Liz said.

Michael waved his hand at Liz. "It's no problem. It was actually a good thing because it made us get to know Preston. Everyone pretty much figured out that you were the Queen, so we knew we had to figure out this time lapse problem, and quickly."

"After the celebration dinner that night Preston met with myself, Isabel, Max, and Serena. He still doesn't trust all the other Royals, and for good reason. Preston is a scientist that was forced to work for Kivar. He is the one that cut the time to get to Earth down to five years, but he had more information then that. He really had cut the time down to three months, as he had found all the black holes except the one that opened above the castle on Antar. If he would have shared that with Kivar, Earth probably wouldn't be here right now," he said.

"Anyway, this was enough to get us to trust him, and Max took him to the Granilith Chamber. We know that it isn't safe to use it as passage back and forth more then every six months, and really it won't let you. Max could put the key in but it wouldn't let him in. Preston, who had done a lot of work with the information he had on Earth thought he knew why."

"While we can survive in both atmospheres, they are different. Earth's atmosphere has more Nitrogen then ours, and he theorized that you could take the change in Nitrogen only once every six months. So what if he created a suit that gradually got your body used to the change in Nitrogen?" Michael said. "So we tried it. Basically in layman's terms if your body is prepared to come to Earth in this suit before you leave Antar it will let you come right back."

"But how did you test this if only Max can operate the Granilith for traveling?" Liz asked.

"Well it's not just Max. Serena, as the Queen Mother can do it too, and let me tell you she is one stubborn woman. She got with Preston once the suit was finished and talked him into letting her test it. Thankfully it worked and she was able to come right back." Michael said, remembering how furious Max was when he found out what she did.

"And, with you here on Earth Liz you can send anyone back that comes through. At first we were worried about any abnormal occurrences that might happen here causing suspicion, but if the Granilith isn't programmed to let a ship go through the black hole then it barely causes more of a disturbance then a strong wind would cause," he said.

"So now you can come back and forth as much as you want?" Maria asked hopefully.

"Well technically yes. There is still so much to do on Antar, so much that needs resolved. We are unfortunately very busy, but you all can also travel back and forth too," he said, looking at the group.

"It is kind of a pain, because both ways you have to wear this suit for 2 hours before the Granilith will let you in. But if we can have more frequent contact then it is worth it," Michael finished.

"So when do you have to go back?" Maria asked.

"Tomorrow night," Michael said, pulling her into a hug at the dejected look on her face.

"But....since Labor day weekend is next weekend, we were kind of wondering if you all would want to come to Antar next Friday night," Michael said. "We have enough suits for everyone, and if you can all manage to get away we'd love to show you our planet. After Liz sends me back tomorrow you'll all know how to do it."

The group kind of looked around at each other in surprise. Next weekend they could go to Antar. Next weekend they could see their friends and loved ones.

"I've already spoken with the Evans, so they are totally on board. Hell they are probably waiting at the pod chamber now, they are so excited. I realize this is a big decision, so we'll just be waiting for whoever decides to come," Michael said, looking at Maria.

"I'll need to talk to my Mom, Michael," she said. "Remember how pissed she was when you took me to Arizona? Imagine what she'd do to you if you took me to another planet?"

"I understand," Michael said, kissing Maria's forehead.

Thank you all for the comments, as always, I really appreciate them! Also, I'm glad so many of you liked the M&M moment. I like Max and Liz as much as the next person, but sometimes I wish the other couples were explored more so I tried to do that.

Chapter 24

Maria sashayed into Liz's room and looked out her window to the balcony. Michael was talking to Mr. Parker, trying to get a feel for him. He had learned the night before that Jeff was actually putting an effort into understanding his daughter, and he hoped among hope that he could be trusted with the secret.

"Good Morning," Maria said, with a big smile as she slid out the window on to Liz's balcony.

"More so for some then others," Liz said dryly with a smile.

"Yeah, last night was pretty decent," Maria said, blushing.

"What happened to the stonewall Maria?" Liz teased. "It lasted what, 4 seconds? If that's how long it took for yours to come down, I don't have a hope in hell," she laughed.

"Maybe you shouldn't even put one up, and how long did yours last when Max possessed Alex, huh?" Maria said, sitting next to Liz. "Maybe we should just give them a chance, a real chance."

"Is that you or the after glow talking?" Liz joked.

"I'm serious Liz," Maria pouted. "I talked to my Mom this morning, told her about next weekend. I'm going to go."

"Really? Your Mom didn't have an aneurysm or anything?" Liz asked, shocked.

"Well, she wants to go too. They are going to come back from their honeymoon on Thursday instead of next Sunday. You really don't think that MY Mother would let me go to another planet by myself, do you?" she said.

"That's great, Maria," Liz said sincerely. "You are lucky that you get to go with your family," she finished sadly.

"You know, my Mom and Jim said that they'd make a cover story for you. Say they are taking us somewhere for the weekend. Your Dad has already trained our replacements, so work shouldn't be a problem," Maria said with hope.

"I need to think about it Maria, I really do," Liz said.

"What is there to think about? You love him! Look at what happened when he was in Alex's body. You can't sit there and say that you don't want to see him! Hell, we've been talking about going there for 6 months after Graduation!" Maria exclaimed.

"Maria, I just need to think about it, ok?" Liz said. "I didn't push you when you were thinking about being changed, so please don't push me about this. It just all seems so real now. Before it was like some kind of cosmic joke, me being a Queen. Think about it Maria, we are all worried about starting our Senior year tomorrow and Max is running a planet, a solar system really. Maybe things are just to different now. He has all those memories, all that power. I just...I just need to think about it."

"You're right Liz, I'm sorry. I promise I won't push you, and if you need to talk I promise I'll try to be impartial. I kind of understand about the Max being a leader of a planet. I mean Michael is in charge of an Army! He's responsible for the safety of a planet. I keep thinking that maybe I won't be enough once the euphoria of seeing each other again wears off," Maria said.

"It's ok Maria, and I totally understand where you are coming from," Liz said. "First I was just a small town girl, a geek with big dreams. Then I was a small town girl who was saved by an alien. Then everything went crazy, and now I'm supposed to be the Queen of a planet I've never even seen. But inside, inside I am still that small town girl...."

"Complication and Czechs just go hand in hand, don't they?" Maria asked.

"It sure seems that way," Liz said. "Speaking of Czechs, I got a copy of the final draft of the script we wrote for Kal for you," she said, getting up, wanting desperately to change the subject. "I'll be right back."

Liz went into her bedroom and looked through some messy papers that were on her desk.

"Kaleb isn't going to go next weekend if Liz doesn't," she heard Alex's voice say in the hall.

"We can get someone else to cover for him. Katrina and Kaleb have been waiting 50 years to see home again," Michael said.

"Yeah, but they refuse to leave their queen," Alex told Michael in a hushed whisper.

"Well let's just pray that Liz goes, because on top of them missing a chance to see home, it'll devastate Max," Michael said.

Liz grabbed the script and hurried out the window back to Maria.

"Here you go," she said, handing it to her.

"Thanks. Kal said a couple of studio's want to hire us to write, but I think I like it when we make our own characters better, don't you?" Maria said.

"Definitely," Liz agreed.

"You guys out here?" Alex called as his head poked out the window.

"Come on out," Liz said.

Alex and Michael climbed out the window. Michael strode over to Maria, picked her up, sat in her chair, and placed her back on his lap. As he wrapped his arms around her Liz felt a tinge of jealousy, but was still happy for her friend. Michael was still Michael, General or not. Maybe Max would still be Max?

"So how'd it go with my Dad?" Liz asked, wanting and dreading to know the answer all at the same time.

Michael sighed. "It wasn't as bad as last time, but we still can't tell him Liz, he still didn't deal well with it. Maybe after a few more months coming to terms with your Independence..."

"Yeah, ok, so he still can't deal with it," Liz said, trying desperately not to shed any tears. Maria jumped off Michael's lap and hugged Liz, which wasn't making it any easier not to cry.

"It's just...it would be so much easier if they knew," Liz said in a wavering whisper.

"I think we could tell your Mom, and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't tell you Dad," Michael said. Nancy Parker had took the news like a trooper in his scenario, and understood the danger Jeff presented the group.

"I can't do that to her Michael! I will not ask her to keep a secret like that. Their marriage is shaky enough as it is right now because of me, and I'm not going to add to it!"

"Liz," Alex said softly. "Your parents problems are not your fault. They have probably been building for years."

"Thanks for trying Alex, but come on! My total 360 in character is the big problem in their marriage. What happens if I just up and leave altogether and can't even tell them where I am? If I can't even contact them or call them?" Liz disentangled herself from Maria and stood up.

"What time do you want to leave Michael?" Liz asked.

"Around 6 if that's ok," he said.

"That's fine. I really just need to take a walk and clear my head right now. I'll meet you at the Crash around 5:30, ok?" Liz said.

"Alright..." Michael said.

"Liz, wait," Maria said as Liz swung her leg over the wall to the fire escape.

"I need some time alone Maria, I'll be fine," Liz said.

She started down the fire escape and Maria jumped up. Michael stopped her. "Just let her go Maria, she needs this time to think."

"She's running Michael. I know her better then anyone and she's running," Maria whispered.

Michael found Liz a couple of hours later sitting on a bench in the park feeding birds. Michael sat down wordlessly and held his hand out to Liz for some of the bird food. She handed him some and he started feeding the birds with her.

They sat in a comfortable silence, watching the birds and children play. "Thanks," said Liz after awhile.

"Your welcome," Michael said, knowing she was grateful that he didn't just start drilling her when he sat down.

"He'll come around Liz," Michael said. "It was already much better then it was before. If he didn't trust the government so much to keep you safe, we'd be home free."

"Yeah, ok," Liz said, not believing a word Michael was saying.

"It's true," he said. "Liz, you Dad is not a bad guy, in fact, he is one of the best I've ever known," he said as Liz looked at him questioningly. Michael still liked her Father even though he was more then willing to offer Max and them up to the government?

"When he gave me the job at the Crash, he didn't have to. He knew my reputation, but I think he also knew my situation. He extended a helping hand to a kid who really needed to catch a break once in his life, and a bad person doesn't do things like that," Michael said.

"That's true," Liz said, knowing that many people thought Liz or Maria had gotten the job for Michael. If they knew the real Michael they'd know he was much to proud for that, and he went to Liz's Dad on his own.

"Luckily I never let him down. He was amazed with how fast I learned the Crash menu. Little did he know that Maxwell had been dragging me there since we were allowed to ride our bikes alone and I could recite that damn menu in my sleep," he joked as Liz gave him a playful punch.

"I have some stuff for you at the pod chamber," Michael said. "Max sent back some books, history of Antar, science stuff from Antar...He had them translated into English. You can take them home if you want, but you'll probably want to put them in the wall with your journal."

She smiled knowing that Max knew her so well, then Liz's mouth fell open when she processed the last part. "Michael!" she exclaimed. "You still know where my journal is?"

Michael scratched his eyebrow and grinned. "Yup. After I gave it back to you I had to make sure it was in a safe hiding place. I wasn't real big on trust back then. I never read it again, just made sure it was safe."

Liz nodded, knowing that Michael would not lie to her. "So Antar has a different language?" she asked.

"It's written different then English but sounds like English," Michael explained.

Liz looked at Michael incredulously. "How can that be?"

"Well Aunt Serena has some theories, and maybe if you ever meet her you can hypothesise with her. It took a long time for Max's family to realize that the Granilith could be used for transportation to other planets, but we think the line they conquered used it for that purpose and never told anyone." Michael explained. "They had a great hatred for anyone that wasn't evolving, getting powers. They thought they were weak. One of her theories is they sent them to Earth. It might explain the language similarities and the introduction of Monarchies in Europe."

"That makes sense," Liz said, her scientific brain kicking in. "It would explain why there are other languages on Earth too, if there were already humans here. Weren't they advanced way more then Earth back then?"

"Maybe not," Michael said. "They had developed powers but it wasn't like they had flying cars or anything. There isn't much on the history of our planet from that time period, we just know they were very dark times. The leaders then weren't exactly focused on making things better for the people. Zan's Grandfather was the one that really brought things up a notch."

"So does that mean there is another Granilith receiver on Earth?" Liz asked, "because if Serena's theory is right there is no way they landed in Roswell back then."

"They moved it here from Ireland," Michael said. "Back when Serena's husband traveled a lot, she used to come to Earth if he was going to be gone the six months. Zan's Grandmother had visions, so Serena did some things that she told her to do. I think this has all been in the works for a very long time."

"It seems so," Liz said. "Doesn't it feel weird that maybe we are all a part of something so huge, something that was foreseen so long ago?"

"Immensely," Michael said. "And if you say the "D" word I'm not giving you your books," he joked.

"You have no worries about that one," Liz laughed. "If I never hear that word again it will be too soon. Michael, what happened to Tess anyway? I...I wanted to ask, but didn't want to bring it up in front of Kyle."

"She's in prison," Michael said, "awaiting sentencing. It was decided that since you all were the ones she effected the most you would decide her fate. Our laws are very strict, almost an eye for an eye, they have to be when you have people running around with all that power. She would have been executed on site, but Serena thought it was fair that you all have one last chance to talk to her, to let her know what she did. Then you'll decide what should be done."

Liz drew in a deep breath. Could she decide that? Could she order someone to be executed?

"Whatever you decide, she's no longer a danger. Max stripped her powers and jumbled up her memory so she doesn't know exact details about what happened on Earth, like your names, places, things like that," Michael explained.

"You might want to talk about it with the others before next weekend, because the natives are getting restless back on Antar. Once people found out about you we had no choice but to go public with some of the stuff that happened to us on Earth, and let's just say Tess isn't a very popular person in the public eye," Michael finished.

"I will," Liz said, already dreading bringing this conversation up with Kyle.

"We better get going," Michael said. "Everyone is going to meet us at the pod chamber."

"Ok," Liz said as she started walking with Michael. "And Michael, thanks. Thanks for not pushing about next weekend."

"It's not my style Liz," Michael said. "Besides, I seem to recall reading about a promise you made to someone very dear to you. A promise about following your heart. I have no doubts about your decision," he smirked.

"That was a low blow Guerin," Liz said.

"Would you expect anything less?" Michael said, raising an eyebrow.

"I guess not," she laughed as they walked up to Michael's motorcycle.

"Wait, wait, you expect me to ride to the pod chamber on this thing?" she asked.

"Yup. Doing crazy things sometimes feels pretty good Liz," he said as he plopped the over sized helmet on her head, climbing on the motorcycle. Liz timidly climbed on the back, holding the handles on the side.

As Michael took off with a lurch Liz squealed and grabbed on to Michael for dear life. If it wasn't for the over sized helmet on her head, you would have seen one of the first huge smiles plastered on her face in a long time.

The next day at lunch Liz, Maria, Alex, and Kay sat by a tree in the quad. "God this day sucks!" Maria said. Liz reached over and squeezed her hand. It had rough on her when she saw Michael take off the day before.

Kyle came up and plopped down next to Kay. "So is there a reason why you called an I-know-an-alien club meeting our first day back to school your majesty?"

Liz took a deep breath while she explained what Michael had told her about Tess the day before. She tried to ignore Kyle's whitening face, Maria's narrowing eyes, and Alex's shocked appearance. It was going to be a long four days, with lots of decisions that could change everything forever.

I had the first part of this chapter done so I thought I'd throw it up for you. Don't kill me for where it leaves off... :D The second part will be up by Sunday night.

Chapter 25 A

Liz climbed out on her balcony and laid down on her lounge chair, looking at the stars. Her parents thought she was working on her homework, because she couldn't exactly tell them she had already read every book in all her subjects and knew it all backwards and forwards.

Yes, this scanning power was going to be helpful she thought. She has mused this idea to Maria, about how Max spent so many nights studying with her when he probably already knew everything. "It just gave him more Liz stare time," Maria joked.

The pretend studying was just another lie she had to tell her parents. Liz had always spent a large amount of time on her homework, so to not do so now would just look downright suspicious or convince her Father that she was no longer taking school serious.

It was Wednesday, two days before the Earthlings would be leaving for Antar. Liz didn't understand what her problem was. She loved Max, after everything they did she may have loved him more now then ever. Talking to Alex and Maria didn't help, because they just didn't understand her dilemma.

What she needed to do was talk to someone who would be blunt, fair, and impartial. Liz had a light bulb moment and picked up her BlackBerry.

"Talk to me!" screamed Kal's booming voice.

"Hey Kal, are you busy?" Liz asked, her tears reaching her quivering voice.

Kal looked around the crowded dinner party. Some of Hollywood's biggest players were sitting around his long, formal dining room table. "Hold on on minute," Kal said.

He put the phone on mute. "Excuse me everyone, but I have to take this," he said as he went to his study and closed the door. He took the phone off mute. "So what's up?" he asked.

"I was wondering if you could answer a question for me," Liz said.

A question? A question? She had pulled Kal away from a huge meeting to ask him a question. Kal calmed himself down. "Shoot," he said, wondering when in the hell he started worrying about other people's feelings.

"Why aren't you going to Antar this weekend?" Liz asked.

"Still haven't made up your mind?" Kal asked, deflecting the question.

"No, but that still doesn't tell me why you aren't going to go visit. Don't you have family? Is it that bad up there?" Liz asked.

Kal sighed. "My home is here now Liz, I told you that before. I don't know how Antar is now. I'm assuming it's a lot better then when I left, considering it was under attack by Kivar then."

"But I would think you would want to see that it was ok for yourself? That since you can come back and forth so quickly that you could check on any friends or family there?" she pushed.

"My friends and family wouldn't want to see me," he spat out.

"Kal...why not? Why wouldn't they?" she said.

"Because I failed them! Don't you see Liz? I let the enemy infiltrated us and fool us all. I left the royal four unprotected on a strange planet." Kal said.

"But he fooled all the shapeshifters Kal, not just you and Kaleb and Katrina don't have a problem going back," she said.

"Liz, I was the one in charge. I was in charge of this mission that went so wrong. I was the one who hesitated when I felt Future Max come back. My family and friends are all about honor and I have none," he said.

"I don't think Max sees it that way," Liz said.

"Who knows if he does or doesn't now that he's on Antar," Kal countered.

"I know he doesn't because I know him, and you came through with flying colors. YOU saved them Kal," Liz said.

"Well if you know him so well why can't you decide to go or not this weekend?" Kal said.

Liz thought about it for a minute, and Kal almost thought she hung up on him.

"Because I'm afraid," Liz said in a small voice.

Kal's anger was squelched by the tone in her voice. "Why are you afraid?" he asked in a surprisingly comforting tone.

"If I go, it almost feels like a betrayal. Like it is the first step to choosing that life over my parents. Everyone keeps telling me that Max is the love of my life, and I should be with him, but right now being with him means I will be out of my parents life," Liz said. "I can't just throw them away Kal, I can't."

"It doesn't mean it will always be that way Liz, it seems like your Father is coming along nicely," Kal said, knowing that if it wasn't for her Father's trust in the American government they wouldn't even be having this conversation. "Just keep working on your relationship and I'll bet one day you'll be able to tell him."

"Maybe Kal, but will it be to late then?" Liz asked.

"I don't know Liz," Kal answered honestly.

"So we are both just afraid I guess," she said.

"I guess so," Kal whispered.
______________________________________________________________________________

The next four days were a flurry of activity on Antar. Rooms were being readied, tours planned, dinners scheduled. They wanted to show the humans as much as they could about life on Antar in three days.

The only one not overly excited was Max. He was almost as bad as he was on Earth when he first told Liz it wasn't safe for them to be together. When Michael had come back and only had definite answers from Jim, Amy, Kyle, Maria, Alex, and Charles Whitman, Max went into full brooding mode, sure she wouldn't make it.

He was back on his wall, overlooking the palace grounds. Things were looking so much better out there. There was a fury of activity in the towns around Antar, as people had heard they may be seeing the people from Earth they had heard so much about. Isabel had been put in charge of educating their subjects on their adventures on Earth, and Isabel told the tale well.

Isabel watched Max staring out into the distance. She silently thanked God that The Counting Crows CD was not available on Antar.

"Hey Max," she said softly, walking over and sitting by him.

"Hey," he said, managing a half smile. "Are you excited about seeing Alex?" he asked.

"Excited, anxious...." Isabel said.

"Anxious?" Max asked.

"Well we didn't exactly leave things in a comforting place," Isabel said. "After the way I treated him I wouldn't blame him if he didn't want anything to do with me."

"I thought things were fine after Prom?" Max asked.

"I had to practically beg him to go to Prom Max," Isabel said. "I think if I would have just stuck to my word that I couldn't be with anyone at the time things might be different, but no, I had to go and get involved with Grant. I can only imagine how much that must have hurt him. Then future you happened, everything went crazy, and we never really got a chance to hash it all out."

"Well you'll have a chance to do that this weekend, won't you? He probably just needed some time," Max said.

"I sure hope so," Isabel said. "And you...You need to stop this moping. They should be here anytime and whether Liz comes or not you need to enjoy the people that do come," she said, and her tone softened a little. "If she doesn't, I don't think it would have anything to do with how much she loves you Max. I'd bet it is more about her parents. She's still lying to them, and since everybody else has their families support that can't be an easy place."

"I'm well aware of that," Max said, knowing how relieved he was when they told their parents early last spring.

"So take your own advice and realize the girl probably just needs some time," Isabel said.

"My advice sucks," Max laughed.

"Yeah, it does, but it's also true," Isabel sighed.

"Maxwell!" Michael's voice boomed before they could even see him.

Max and Isabel both shook their head. With how nervous they both were, Michael was by far worse then the both of them put together. This was going to be his first meeting with Amy Deluca since all the revelations were made, and Amy Deluca was about the only person in seven worlds that scared the crap out of Michael.

"There you are," Michael said, rounding the corner and storming over to Max and Isabel. "They are going to be here any time now! Why aren't you heading for the Granilith chamber? Are the rooms ready? Isabel, did you make sure to give Amy and Jim the room overlooking Lake Zyiad? Max did you restore Tess's memories?" he questioned. "WHY ARE WE JUST SITTING HERE?" he exclaimed.

"Michael, calm down before you give yourself a stroke," Isabel said. "Yes, Amy and Jim's room is ready, just like you wanted, and we have another hour before they arrive."

Michael started pacing. "And Tess? Did you take care of Tess?" Michael asked.

"Yes, I went to the prison yesterday," Max said.

An unpleasant part of this weekend would be the sentencing of Tess. People were outraged after hearing what happened on Earth, and they were demanding justice. Max wanted all the humans to have the chance to talk to Tess, to find closure from all she had done to them. Tess would need her memories back so she knew who she was talking to, and since the worlds all knew about the Earthlings now, it didn't matter if Tess knew. He still kept certain things from her, like their last names and the places where they lived, but she remembered everything else.

Max closed his eyes, remembering how she pleaded for her life, how she just kept apologizing. He probably wouldn't be very effected by it, knowing she was a master manipulator, but when she kept begging to know how Kyle and Jim were, he knew those feelings were true. It was funny how the people she thought were beneath her, that where there just to serve her own purposes, these humans, were the only ones she cared about now.

A small commotion was heard around the palace wall and one of Max's guards came flying around the corner.

"Your Majesty," he bowed, "the Queen Mother asked me to tell you there is activity in the Granilith Chamber."

"Thank you," Max said as he jumped off the wall. Isabel, Michael and Max all raced for the chamber, ready to meet their guests, each nervous, excited, and scared for their own personal reasons.

Thanks for all the feedback! Sorry to leave you hanging at that part, and I promise I wasn't trying to be

great part. It's so funny to see Michael so afraid of Amy. How can she reduce him to such a bundle of nerves? Has he run a scenario and seen something he hasn't shared with the class?

I always saw Michael as being afraid of Amy because he really has no idea about how a Mother is, and he knows Maria is close to her. I think he'd worry about making a good impression on her.

As for Liz, hopefully this explains why she was so reluctant to go. I can't imagine being 17 and living with the idea of maybe disappearing from my parents lives, and I don't think she is the type that could do that either.

Chapter 25 B

Max, Isabel, Michael and Serena walked with as much dignity as they could to the Granilith Chamber. It was in a half run/half walk manner in which they proceeded, wanting to get there before their guests arrived.

Excited whispers could be heard by the people they passed, knowing the Earthlings must be arriving. The curiosity had been provoked with Isabel's tales from Earth, and most were excited to see these people from that strange land.

Max stood before the entrance of the Granilith Chamber. He took a deep breath and ran his hand over the key to open the door. They all walked in and saw the Granilith pulsating with light and color.

Soon people began walking out of the sphere shaped vibration of light, covered in white suits that resembled the type used while working with infectious diseases on Earth. The room quickly became full to the brim with people, and Max was nearly knocked off his feet when one of the suit covered people threw their arms around him.

He leaned down to remove the hood from their head and smiled when he saw his Mother. "Oh Max, I missed you so much darling" she said, hugging him fiercely. He hugged her back and surveyed the crowd. There were so many people there, so many struggling to take off the suits that he couldn't tell who had come.

He seen a large figured had picked Isabel off the ground and as she removed his hood he smiled at his Father. He put Isabel down and grabbed his son in a great big bear hug. "Hey Dad," Max said as his Father grabbed both sides of his face to look at his son.

Seeing his son's worry, he decided to help him out. "Liz is somewhere in this mess of people, don't you think you should be finding her?" he asked with a twinkle in his eye.

Max's heart jumped clear into his throat as he frantically looked around the Chamber, forgetting about everything and everybody else. He saw Michael with one arm around Maria, one arm around Amy. He nodded at Jim and watched as he tried to free Kyle from his suit.

Then, back by the Granilith he saw two people trying to remove their hoods. The smaller one was having difficulty as the suit was very big. He reached the person in two long strides, pretty sure about who it was.

As he lifted the hood and saw the burst of long chestnut hair flying about he knew who it was. Before he could think better of it, he bent down and placed a mind blowing kiss on her lips. They both reveled in the intimate contact as they had their first real kiss in over a year. Flashes and feelings took them over as the rest of the world disappeared, leaving only Max and Liz and their love for each other.

They finally broke apart and Liz looked up at Max. 'Hi,' she mouthed. 'Hey,' he mouthed back as he heard someone clearing their throat. Max looked to the direction of the sound with an annoyed look on his face.

"So are we just going to stand here all day or do you suppose you could let us out?" Kal asked sarcastically. Max smiled and extended his hand to Kal without releasing Liz. He looked up to see the big group of people looking expectantly at them.

"Glad to see you decided to visit Kal," Max said sincerely as he shook his hand. Kal just shrugged and bowed low.

"That wife of yours seems to have some kind of control over male Antarian DNA," he explained. Max looked down at Liz and smiled as she blushed.

"Oh no no no no," said Maria. "No look into my eyes soul mate stuff get us out of here!"

Max sighed as he released Liz so that she could remove the rest of her suit. Once they were all neatly hung he grabbed her hand and walked to the door that led to Serena's chambers.

"We are going to go the back way so that you can all change into the clothes we have for you, so you'll blend a little better," he said as he waved his hand over the key. The group excitedly followed Max, and he smiled when he saw Alex had taken Isabel's hand.

"I can't believe we are on a planet full of aliens!" Maria said energetically.

"Ummm Maria, I hate to break it to you but now that you are on Antar you are the one that is the alien," Michael said as everyone laughed, because for the first time that they could all remember, Maria was speechless.

Once they were in Serena's chambers introductions were made. Mr. and Mrs. Evans tearfully thanked Serena for Max and Isabel, and she thanked the Evan's for raising them so well. Michael introduced Serena to Maria and the Valenti's, and Kal, Katrina, and Kaleb dropped to their knees in the presence of the Queen that sent them on their mission.

"Please rise," Queen Serena said. "Kal...Katrina...Kaleb...I can't thank you enough for what you have done for our world. While the mission didn't go as planned, I think it went the way that it was meant to be. You all came through when you were needed and the Royal family and people of Antar will always be indebted to you."

The three silently crossed their right arm over their chest, and bowed. As Kal straightened back up, Liz could tell he was fighting tears, so she gave him a reassuring smile and he just smiled right back. Kaleb reached out and took Kay's hand, pulling her forward.

"Your Majesty, may we present our daughter, Kay?" he said. "She was born on Earth."

Queen Serena smiled as Kay bowed. "Hello Kay," she said kindly. "Aren't you beautiful?" she said as Kay blushed and said her thanks. Serena looked over at the two tall men, one holding Isabel's hand.

"You must be Alex and Charles Whitman," she smiled as they both bowed. "It's really great to meet you," Alex said sincerely. "Thank you for having us here," Mr. Whitman said. "I've been dying to come here for months!" Serena smiled at his enthusiasm.

Max walked up to Serena, arm firmly planted around Liz's waist. "Grandma, this is Liz," he said with tenderness.

Liz went to curtsy to Serena but she beat her to it. She stared in amazement as Serena curtsied to her. "What is that Earth expression? Oh yes, you are a little higher on the food chain then I," said Serena, eyes twinkling with amusement. She then took her face in both her hands and kissed her forehead. "I'm so pleased to meet you, thank you so much for coming," she said and Liz said her thanks.

"Alright everyone, we have a lot to do this weekend," the ever organized Isabel said. "We'll take everyone to get freshened up, and then we'll do a quick tour of Antar."

The group began to disperse and left Serena's chambers. Maria noted with surprise how the guards outside the door stood up straighter and crossed their right arm over their chest when Michael walked by.

"As you were," Michael said as the soldiers relaxed.

"Wow," Maria said in surprise. "Don't worry Michael, Liz schooled me on not hen pecking you in front of the soldiers," she said wryly.

"Thank God for Liz," Michael said under his breath.

"What was that Spaceboy?" Maria asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Nothing," Michael smirked.

As Michael took the Maria, the Valenti's and the shapeshifters to their quarters Isabel took the Whitman's and the Evan's to their space. Liz and Max walked in the opposite direction, and stopped when they reached two beautiful doors with the V constellation engraved in the handles. Max took a deep breath and opened them.

Liz stood looking around the room with awe. It was probably bigger then the Crashdown and her parent's apartment put together. There was a magnificent bed in the middle that was so big it required beautifully carved steps. The colors were rich and dark, but the material seemed to manage to still be light and airy. Two huge glass doors opened to what seemed to be a balcony, and the view of the Antarian countryside was amazing.

"This room seems fit for a King," Liz said, still taking in the beauty.

"Actually, it is. This is my room, Liz," Max said, trying to gage her reaction.

"Oh," Liz said, realizing that she would be staying with Max.

"I don't mean to imply...I don't expect...There are couches and other places to sleep in here," he rambled. "It's just the people here wouldn't understand if you didn't stay with me. Naturally bonded people can't stand to be apart, and it would cause talk that wouldn't be good right now with how fragile things are on the planet. They don't understand the bond doesn't affect humans like it does us," he finished softly.

"Max, it's ok, I understand," Liz said, looking at him intently, "and for your information, it does affect us like you."

"It does?" Max asked, surprised. "But you didn't know if you wanted to come...." he said. Max had figured the bond wasn't affecting her because otherwise nothing would have kept her from coming. He knew if someone told him he could visit Liz for the weekend he'd go in a heartbeat, and in a way it broke a little piece of his heart that she needed to even think about it.

"My not coming never had anything to do with being with you Max, or how I feel about you....you have to believe that," she said. "It's just...It's just hard is all. My parents, however flawed they may be are still my parents. Coming here almost felt like I was going to give them up, and I don't know if I can ever do that. I love them Max, can you understand that?"

"Oh Liz," Max said as he pulled Liz into a hug. "Of course I understand, and I wouldn't expect you to give up your parents. We'll find a way, I promise." Liz nodded into his chest, feeling a little better.

"Now," he said, pulling her out of the hug and resting his forehead on hers. "We have to get you ready. Isabel has already threatened my life if I delay her schedule, and King or no King I am still afraid of her when she goes into Nazi mode."

Liz laughed and he bent down and placed a sweet kiss on her lips. They still had much to talk about with all that had happened in the last year, but things were looking like they were headed in the right direction.
