Part 53
It was a good thing Maria had the common sense to have Isabel and Liz clear Kingman because the sounds of the power blasts impacting with shields was heard for miles. The light from all the energy firing back and forth was seen even further.
Kyle was the first to notice the light.
“We’re too late; they already started.”
Maria shook her heard in disagreement, “No, no, no, not to late. They’re still alive okay.”
Alex nodded his head in agreement with her, “She’s right we would feel it if they were gone okay Kyle.”
“I didn’t say they were dead, just that they started all the fun without us.”
“Enough. I love you guys but this is serious. Ria, you have to stay at the car ok? You’ll drop us off as close as possible and then go back to the meeting point okay?”
Maria nodded her head in agreement.
“Kyle your gonna have to shimmer us all there okay.”
“The four of us.”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
“Sheriff, you need to help Christina, Kyle work with Spencer and Serena and me and Alex will work with the Four Square.”
“Can we do that?”
They looked to Liz. “I hope so…
Remember watch out for Lonnie and Khivar to show up. It’s the surprise of Lonnie and that other Skin fighting with Nicholas that turns it in their favor. If they get Christina, Alex you have to channel Isabel’s shield to block metal powers so Michael doesn’t get attacked by Lonnie and Sundari and we have a chance to get out of this.”
She gulped before continuing, “If…if they take out Isabel and Ava, Kyle you have to shimmer out Spencer and Serena immediately and then come back for Max and Michael, then get your dad, Alex, and me out. In that order okay.”
Kyle hesitated, he looked at his dad for an answer, but Jim too was just as torn with her plan. Maria was shaking as Alex held her hand, this was too real, too close to the end for her.
Liz saw the hesitation, the doubt. “Kyle, if it even gets that far those four have a better chance of stopping Khivar a second time then we do. Earth needs them.”
Finally, slowly Kyle nodded just as they reached the drop off point for them.
“Ria you remember where we pointed out to wait for us back at that hotel.” Off her nod Liz continued, “Ria, I know you’re scared, but we will do everything in all our powers to all get back to you. If we’re not back in one hour, get your mom and warn the world okay. One hour Maria not a second more.”
Maria nodded again as tears slipped down her cheeks all control over them lost. She waited as Kyle grabbed their hands and they formed a loose circle and shimmered out before she drove back to the hotel where they had spotted the other cars. There she would wait an hour of complete torture to find out if her friends would live or die.

Part 54
The four humans shimmered in behind the Four Square as previously discussed. Valenti and Kyle dropped Liz and Alex’s hands as Kyle shimmered his dad over to Christina before he himself joined Serena and Spencer.
Christina wavered in her attack against Sundari as she felt the AMP join her. “Jim what are you doing here?”
“New plan.” He touched her shoulder giving her more strength as she blasted Sundari, who fell to the ground momentarily unconscious, and sharing what Liz saw.
Christina paled. “We have to get out of here. Let’s work our way towards the others.”
Ever so slowly Christina blasted them a way towards the Four Square.
Max and Isabel were both temporarily distracted when Liz and Alex showed up behind them and joined their energy to the fight.
Through her connection with Max, Liz managed to show the others what happened and her new plan. At the same moment though Michael and Max realized they had to retreat just as Lonnie and Khivar stepped out to the front of the troops.
Not seeing Christina, Lonnie took aim at Serena who had just knocked Jared to his ass when he was already bleeding severely. Kyle seeing what was about to happen dove in front of Serena pushing them both out of the way. He was not quick enough though and his eyes closed as he saw the blast headed for his chest, his last thought was at least Serena was safe.
As Kyle’s eyes closed in acceptance, Alex noticed Lonnie’s attack and sent his deflective shield towards Kyle reaching him in time to save his life, but not enough to keep him from being injured. Badly at that.
Serena dragged Kyle back towards the others as Spencer provided cover for them.
Once they were all gathered together again Max tried to explain as best he could while they were under attack from all sides.
“I have to heal Kyle. He’s our only hope at getting out of here alive.”
The others continued taking out the Skin army who were advancing on them.
Liz had taken charge and was already bent over Kyle her hands above his lower abdomen where the blast hit. Seeing this the others went back to defending themselves until Kyle was back with them.
Christina yelled at Jim to reserve his power for the escape. Immediately the others felt the loss of the renewed strength that had filled them moments ago.
By this time both Jared and Sundari had regained their footing and had joined Khivar, Niko, and Lonnie at the front who were watching in amusement as their troops attempted to take out the Antarian Royal court.
Christian watched as Khivar and the others lined up, “Oh the nerve of that…”
Michael spared a glance at his sister, “What?”
“Royal formation… I’ll explain later.”
“If there is a later.”
She glared at him as Alex deflected a blast headed towards the arguing siblings, “Maybe you guys could focus right now?”
It was a few minutes later that Kyle sat up coughing.
“Well that sucked.”
Despite the circumstances they all smiled. Max explained the plan, as Michael took front.
“Kyle you have to shimmer us all out, at the same time so they don’t know what’s going on and have time to stop us okay.”
“I can’t do that. I barely got the four of us here.”
“Your dad will give you energy, Christina will give Ava enough energy to mind-warp Khivar and the others so they don’t see us disappear right away.”
“Fine. Everyone has to hold hands. I don’t want to have to come back if somebody is left behind.”
They all grabbed hands to the person closest to them.
Serena made sure they were all accounted for as Christina and Jim channeled energy to Ava and Kyle. Ava started the warp so it would last a few moments after they were gone. It was the hardest she ever worked to enter a group of minds and hold the image.
Noticing Ava squinting in concentration as Michael, Spencer, and Liz continue to weaken from throwing blasts Max gave the command,
“NOW!”
The exhausted, bloody, battle weary group disappeared from the desert. Khivar’s troops looking on in confusion as their leaders smiled still under Ava’s influence. It was a few minutes before the warp fell and they realized what had happened.
Khivar’s scream was only drowned out by the blast he threw towards the last place the Royals had been standing.
“DAMN IT AVA!!”

Part 55
Maria was huddled on the bed in the fetal position. She clutched to her chest a shirt of Michael's she had found as she rocked back and forth. She checked the clock by the bed for the hundredth time. Ten more minutes, all she had was ten more minutes before her life, as she knew it, was over for sure.
At that second she screamed as 11 bodies filled the room, most collapsing to the floor to tired to stand anymore. Maria sat up and gawked at the complied heap in front of her. She opened her mouth to speak, but sobs suddenly shook her body in relief.
Michael was able to crawl his way to his pixie and pull her off the bed into his arms as she sobbed. Tears leaked from his eyes too as he saw the aftermath of their great battle.
Christina, the only one besides Alex who remained standing called their attention.
"We have to get out of here, like ten minutes ago."
As Alex helped Isabel up he answered, "We found a place for us to hide."
Surprisingly it was Spencer who answered, "We're not hiding. We're regrouping."
"Well whatever the hell it is lets move." Michael barked as he and Maria stood up grabbing a few of the closest bags which they had left behind.
Kyle got to his feet unsteadily with the help of Serena and his dad.
"Directions are in each car to St. George, Utah. Right Ria?"
Liz was grabbing another bag while Maria turned to answer her, "Yeah under the driver seats."
It was not even five minutes later that they were all piled back into the cars like the ride out from Roswell. It was with much more pessimistic attitude that Maria, Serena, and Alex guided the cars onto the highway for the three and a half hour drive to safety.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The sun was coming up as they pulled up to the giant house Maria led them to.
Nobody asked any questions as they got their bags and headed into the house. Michael slightly refreshed from the nap he had in the car went directlyt to he kitchen phone and ordered them food.
Alex joined him a moment later, "Pizza?" Michael nodded.
Alex picked up the phone, "Ava and Iz want Chinese. And Liz wants sandwiches. Crazy pregnant urges. Twenty bucks says they don't have choclate spread for the turkey."
Even Michael cringed at the concoction as he headed back to the living room where everyone else had crashed.
"We should talk..."
Ava laughed at that, "Talk about what Max? How we almost go killed? Would have been killed if it wasn't for Liz and the others."
"That's not what he meant, Ava and you know it."
"Well the girl has a point Christina. We almost died out there today. Kyle was...Kyle got hurt because of me."
"No, Serena don't think like that. Besides, I'm fine. Lizzy fixed me up."
Kyle even flexed to prove his point gaining a small smile from Serena as Liz shook her head in amusement.
"Maxwell's right we have to discuss what we're going to do differently next time."
"NEXT TIME!!!"
It was a screech; Maria knew it but didn't care.
"No, there is no next time. See my family here..." waving her hands around in a frantic motion she continued, "almost left me today. Not just walked away in a bastard father kind of way. Left this lifetime as in forever. So no. No Next time."
It was probably the pure fear followed closely by the desperation in Maria's eyes that made everyone realize the gravity of the situation and how close they actually came to failing.
At that moment the doorbell rang signaling the arrival of their food and ending the arguing for now.
For the next two hours the twelve sat together in the ktichen, in silence, eating their food slowly. Reflecting, brainstorming, worrying.
It was another hour later before Vaelnti spoke up, "We should hit the stores for food, toiletries, some more clothes. We'll probably be here for a couple of days so..."
"Good idea Sheriff."
Max rubbed his eyes as he thought about it for a minute, "Everyone has to go, four people per car, hit up different stores. We don't want to draw attention to us."
Liz took over seeing the strain in Max's eyes and his body.
"How about Michael, Kyle, Sheriff, and Serena get the food..."
"I'm staying with Maria."
"Michael, I'll keep an eye on her."
Liz continued, "Okay so Maria, Christina, Isabel, and Alex can get the clothes for everyone." After their nodes she continued, "The rest of us can get the toiltries."
"Everyone be back here in two hours. No dilly dallying at the stroes." Michael gave a pointed look towards Isabel and Maria as he said this.
The somber group quietly left the house, leaving it empty and even quieter than before.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When they returned from their trips to the store, everyone worked together to put all the stuff away and when they were done they gathered in the living room again.
After a few minutes of starring at each other Christina finally exploded.
"This is ridiculous! Everyone go to bed and sleep. We're not going to get anything accomplished tonight and we're all completely exhausted. Our nerves are at our last end so none of us will be functioning until we get a night of rest. GO!!! Shoo sleep."
"Ah, sis, it's like 4 o'clock in the afternoon."
"I don't care. Go. Sleep. NOW. That's an order." She looked at them all, eyes sparkling with fleck of gold begging them to defy her.
No one did as they all trailed up the staris off to the differnt bedrooms to get some sleep. Christina listened as six doors opened and closed quietly before she fell onto the couch completely sapped of all energy.
As the house once again fell into silence, the world went on, oblivious to the fight had in its defense.
The day went on and even as the house fell into darkness, very few of the Antarians or their human firends found restful slumber that night.

Part 56
It was early. Too early for anyone to be awake yet, especially after the day they had, let alone for there to be two people awake.
Yet that was exactly what one would fine had they entered the kitchen of the most recent hide away house for the Royals and human friends.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
“Actually, I’m an early riser. And you did put us to bed at four in the afternoon. Don’t tell anyone especially my mother, but morning is my favorite time of day.
As long as the sun can still rise there’s hope. Watching the sun rise spreading light outwards to everything that was covered in darkness; it’s really powerful for me.
What about you?”
“Aliens only need a few hours to recharge. Remember?”
“Right, you’d think I’d remember the basics after so long. I guess its just second nature after so long. Speaking of alien nature, can I ask you a question.”
“Sure Maria what’s on your mind.”
“Probably the same thing that’s on yours and everyone else’s. The very thing that is keeping Spaceboy, among others tossing and turning as we speak.
The Four Square wasn’t strong enough.
It hardly put a dent into Khivar’s forces. We got our asses handed to us on a platter.
We almost lost Kyle; I can’t even begin to think what would have happened if Liz had made us all listen to Max and stay put, if she didn’t have that premonition.
Max traveled back in time to keep Tess here so they would have the complete unit to defeat Khivar, but its not enough. The Four Square isn’t strong enough.”
Running a hand through her hair very much like her brother Christina responded.
“Don’t you think I know that? The worst part is I have no idea why. And as much as I love my brother and respect Max, I don’t think they can plan a way for us to dig ourselves out of this mess. Hell, I don’t even know how we got here. It’s supposed to work.”
Maria grabbed Christina’s hand in comfort; she knew it was the most the girl would allow.
She was so much like Michael after all, but had even less interaction with people she could trust with her life.
“What makes the Four Square work?”
Christina looked at Maria baffled, surely they had discussed this weeks ago.
“What?”
“On Antar, you had told Michael and Kyle that the Four Square meant to rule the planet wasn’t the strongest one available or whatever. When Ava took your place as a Royal in the Four Square it wasn’t as powerful right.”
Nodding her head Christina leaned forward as Maria continued.
“Why was that. What was so different between you and Ava that weakened the unit? Was it because she wasn’t Antarian Royalty?”
“No. The Four Square works because of the connections. Connections between each of us allow us to feed off of each other’s energy and share powers.
As siblings our bonds were really strong; plus Rath and Raeanne grew up with Zan and Landra so they were just as close as siblings. Four Squares in the past had been formed with sets of mates too because in some instances life mates could share some of the strongest connections on our planet.
There was complete trust among the four of us back on Antar because all our lives we did every single thing together. We would have died for each other. We did die for each other.”
Maria seemed to be thinking it over nodding her head and staring casually out the window.
Christina watched in amazement as her green eyes suddenly blazed a brightness that had been missing since the last confrontation. A spark that was present whenever Michael was around. It grew blindingly so. Suddenly Maria turned to Christina.
“But not with Ava? They didn’t trust Ava as much as Rae? Right?
Because I know Spaceboy and I doubt he’s changed much in this lifetime; the enemy’s sister as opposed to his very own. Ava never stood a chance.
Plus, Isabel has that whole possessive thing. I bet Vilandra saw Ava as trying to replace her life long best friend. Just like Izzie was afraid Liz would take Max from her.
Ava wasn’t around that long. Zan loved her and she had built up a semi-friendship with Vilandra and I’m sure Rath felt protective of her because of Zan, but a couple of weeks in the palace couldn’t compare to a life time of growing up together, not when there was so much working against them.
Christina just gazed, witnessing for the first time Hurricane DeLuca.
“Okay. So where does that leave us exactly.”
Maria rolled her eyes as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Think about it. We have what, 11 people here packed with all kinds of crazy power.
We could pick any four of them, hell we could choose eight of them to form TWO of the most powerful Four Squares the UNIVERSE has ever know.”
Christina just starred, in complete and utter awe of this human girl in front of her. The girl that would be responsible for their sucess in saving the world.

Part 57
Maria and Christina were still sitting in the kitchen sipping tea. Christina’s mind was busy planning and plotting what they could do with this new possibility.
Maria still had a big grin on her face. She too was thinking, but it was more along the lines of how to get the best combination of people together.
That was exactly how Michael found them when he entered the kitchen.
He paused by the doorway, gave a slightly bemused look at his two girls and then continued to the refrigerator. Drinking straight from the orange juice container he braced himself for the slap to the back of the head that never came.
He put the juice back and turned around wiping a hand across his face to find them both still looking slightly more upbeat and even a little more dangerous than they had been the night before.
He walked over to Maria and wrapped his hands around her waist leaning his chin on top of her head.
“What are you two scheming about.”
He had felt Maria startled when he put his hands on her and then relax and lean back into him when she realized it was him.
Christina looked up surprised when he spoke, but she still managed an answer. One that turned the tables and left Michael stunned.
“Maria figured out how to save the world. Come on we have to have a plan ready for when everyone else wakes up.”
Christina and Michael started towards the den to make plans. Both stopped at the doorway when they realized Maria wasn’t with them.
Christina questioned, “Maria, aren’t you coming?”
Maria’s draw dropped. It wasn’t that any of them with powers had made her feel excluded. It was just she was a human, how could she possibly help them save Earth?
Her mouth was still open when Michael walked back to her and grabbed her hand pulling her out of the kitchen after Christina.
“Come on Blondie, I’m sure that DeLuca charm could think of something real nice for Khivar.”
At Michael’s hesitant smirk Maria took notice and grinned following willingly now to make war plans.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It was almost eleven before any body else even bothered to roll out of bed and down to the kitchen. Most having not gotten much sleep during the night.
Max was busy worrying about the fate of Earth, now that they had gone to battle and had easily been defeated.
Liz kept wandering to the bathroom because of sickness from the pregnancy.
Kyle was still in pain, even though Liz had healed him, the nightmares left his body aching.
Serena stayed up watching over Kyle just like he had done for her so long ago when they were in Oregon.
Spencer and Ava were talking about the conflict. They couldn’t determine why it had gone so wrong.
Isabel couldn’t get rid of the feeling of Sundari’s attempts to rifle through her mind towards the end when they were about to shimmer out with Kyle.
Alex was feeling guilty because he didn’t get his shield up in time to completely protect Kyle. His friend was injured because he reacted to slowly.
But eventually each of them drifted off into a restless slumber. By eleven they all found their way down to the kitchen as hunger drove them there.
Max started the coffee for everyone and poured juice for Liz.
Isabel fortunately did not inherited her cooking skills from her mother and began to whip up the Tabasco laced pancakes for everyone, making sure to set aside some batter for Maria.
Valenti and Spencer were scanning the newspaper to see if their activities of last night had been noticed.
Serena was frying some sausage and preparing some toast.
Ava cut fruit for everyone
Kyle was slumped in the stool by the counter with his head slumped on his hands never having been a morning person.
It was a routine they were well into.
They were precise with each action and worked well as a team. Nobody commented on the three missing it was understood that they would do clean up.
In the short time they had all been together as a group all their actions had seamlessly blended together, flowing gracefully. Not just in cooking a meal, but in everything they did.
That was part of the reason none of them could comprehend how Khivar and the others had so ruthlessly kicked their butts yesterday.
They were half way through the meal when Michael, Maria, and Christina joined them.
Immediately everyone noticed the look in Christina and Michael’s eye. They had something planned and judging from Maria behavior it was good. Not only was she smiling, but her eyes were shinning with hope and she was humming.
Max raised an eyebrow in question to them all.
Maria simply ignored them and dropped into her place by Liz grabbing at fruit and pouring syrup all over her pancakes.
Christina shook her head as she went and sat on the other side of Spencer.
Michael filled his plate and the put himself between the two.
“Later Maxwell.”
Max was about to argue when Michael cut in.
“Trust us, okay.”
“Yeah girlfriend. Don’t worry it’s good. We’re talking first-rate. So let’s just enjoy breakfast, get all clean up and then we can talk in the living room.”
Max sighed in frustration, it’s not like he really had a choice. So he continued eating he’s pancakes, a little faster than before.

Part 58
It was two hours later that everyone was gathered in the living room.
The kitchen was all cleaned up ready for lunchtime and everyone was freshly showered and groomed.
Max and Liz sat in the love seat; Isabel and Ava were on the couch with Alex in between them. Spencer was leaning on the armrest of the couch playing with Ava’s hair. Jim and Kyle were in the recliners and Serena was sitting on the floor at Kyle’s feet with her head resting on his knee.
Michael and Christina were in front of the TV their stature commanding attention. Maria too was front and center, but more behind Michael giving him her support.
Christina decided to start them off.
“Maria had an idea. A great idea. An idea that is going to turn this whole thing around.”
Maria blushed and hid her face in Michael’s shoulder mumbling that any of them would have thought of it eventually.
Michael pulled her into his side and kissed her temple whispering into her ear
“Yeah eventually, maybe by then it would be too late.”
Michael picked up where Christina left off; he was after all the Second in Command.
“Obviously the Four Square we have wasn’t powerful enough.”
Everyone nodded their heads.
“So we’ll just have to make a stronger one.”
“Can we do that? I thought it had to be the Royal Four.” Alex brought up a valid point quickly shot down by Liz.
“True, but Max, Isabel, Michael, and Ava aren’t the Royal Four. Christina was part of the Royal Four.”
“So what Christina just takes my spot and then we win. Alright then lets have at it.”
“NO.”
The chatter that had started died immediately at Christina’s quiet demand.
“Four Squares are based on connections. The more trust there is between the people, the more open the connection then the stronger the Four Square. Maria figured it out that with Ava it wouldn’t be as strong because although everyone here trusts each other with their lives there are different levels of familiarity among us.”
Michael picked up the plan.
“So we make up a new Four Square to up against Khivar. Maria figured out the best combination of us for this to work so…”
“From now on Max, Isabel, Michael, Liz…”
Christina was rudely interrupted.
“That makes sense.”
“She is the Queen now.”
“I wasn’t finished. Max, Isabel, Michael, Liz, Serena, Spencer, Alex and myself will form a new Four Square.”
“That’s eight.”
“See guys I told you Kyle could count.”
Everyone chuckled at Alex’s remark even Christina who was interrupted yet again.
“NO.”
All heads turned towards Max.
“Liz does not go into battle.”
“Maxwell that’s not an option we’ll be stronger with her…”
“Michael when you decide that you’ll even think about letting Maria and an unborn child of yours go out to fight OUR war then we can talk.”
Michael shut his mouth.
Christina sighed ready for this obstacle. She hated to do this but somebody had to slap sense into the King and Michael would never be so hypocritical.
“Max, Liz is in this, you can’t stop her from fighting with us in order to protect her.”
She held up a hand, as he was about to interrupt her again.
“If you don’t let Liz fight you are condemning your child to HELL.”
Max paled, “How dare you say such a thing.” He felt the small hand on his shoulder.
“Max, sweetheart, she’s right. Going into battle will be dangerous for me. Just like it’s dangerous for all of us, but I trust in us. I trust our ability to defeat Khivar and that can only happen with their plan. Something might happen to me if we do this, but if we don’t do this, our child will be brought into a world overrun by Khivar’s evil.
I won’t let that happen.
Our child will be safe; one day I want their soul mate to ask them what’s so great about normal. I want our baby girl or boy to answer everything.
Because normal for our child will not be fear and death and running for their lives.
Their normal will consist of security and love. They will have safety and passion in their lives, and I’ll be damned if I allow anyone, especially Khivar to take that away from them.
Max, I am just as strong as you guys, hell with the babies help I could knock Michael on his ass.
I’m not some weak girl you have to shield from the big bad world I know from first hand experience how much the world sucks sometimes. How dangerous it can be. You choose me as your Queen and as Queen I’m going to fight for my people, for my planet. ”
Max wiped the tears from Liz’s cheek, ignoring his own. He pulled her into a tight embraced, running his hand up and down her back the other one buried into her hair. Over the top of Liz’s head he asked,
“So what’s the plan?”

Part 59
“We attack in five days. Not enough time for them to recuperate any looses they did suffer. We’ll have two four squares. The first made up of Max, Liz, Isabel, and Alex.
They’ve known each other since third grade: they’ve got sibling love, passionate love, respectful love. They’ll be a force to be reckoned with using shields to kill. Allowing Alex’s deflective shield take dominance over the Royal ones will be tricky, but it will have the Skins very own blasts taking them out.”
“The second Four Square will be Spencer, Serena, Michael, and myself. We’re related and warriors through and through. Plus we’ll have the Granolith’s energy behind us. Even without it the Skins should be concerned about us. Our task will be to take out the major players, Niko, Lonnie, Sundari and Khivar, should they make an appearance.”
Michael picked up where Christina left off.
“The two Squares will be able to work together too because of the connection shared between Christina and me with, Max and Isabel. Meaning you guys will have more firepower if we need it and we’ll be able to tap into different shield qualities if we need it.”
“What about the rest of us.”
Ava had to ask. She didn’t want to be left out. She wanted to take Khivar down just as badly as the rest of them and she was not willing to sit on the sidelines and let the others do it for her. She imagined Kyle and Jim didn’t want to be twiddling their thumbs when the big battle went down either.
Maria smiled, this part of the plan she really loved it was purely ingenious when Michael thought of it. She decided to jump into the explanation; this part was just too good to leave to those emotionally challenged.
“Ava my good friend, wonderful that you should ask. The rest of you…”
She paused looking at each Ava, Kyle, and Valenti for dramatic effect. Michael rolled his eyes and Christina smirked.
“… the rest you have the most important job. Your abilities will allow for the rest of our plan to go off without a hitch. Ava you’re going to mind-warp the troops so they don’t see us; Khivar and the others can’t realize that we have two Four Squares. So you will keep our lovely friends hidden so the enemy only sees Max, Michael, Isabel, and you trying to fight them!”
She bowed at the end of her delightful explanation congratulating herself at least until Ava jumped off the couch.
“Are you three insane!! There are like over two thousand men in Khivar’s army! A warp that difficult you’ll be luck if I could pull it off on two hundred for any decent length of time!!”
“That’s by yourself. Ava, Jim will be there with him you could easily warp that many and if you can’t get them all neglect the one’s towards the back. Did you really forget he’s an AMP.”
Ava blushed at Christina and sat back down.
“What about me?”
Christina turned towards Kyle
“Eventually Ava and your dad are going be out of energy. Probably a lot sooner than the rest of us will finish off Khivar and his men. Since they’ll be so close to the action once they’re drained you have to get them out of their to Maria and stay there protecting them.”
Kyle nodded pleased with his task.
“Wait.”
Everyone again turned to Max.
“Liz doesn’t have to fight. With Valenti our Four Square would be strong enough. Wouldn’t it?”
Christina, Serena, and Spencer all shook their heads no.
The Isabel asked,
“Couldn’t we just get another AMP then.”
Christina's sarcastic reply stung a little despite the smile she tried to use to soften it,
“Know a lot of aliens here on Earth willing to fight for Antar do you, Izzie?”
Isabel blushed and hid her face in Alex’s chest as he put and arm around her.
Christina sighed,
“If we did have another amplifier, it might be enough, but they’re a rarity. When we were on Antar there were only three, two of those were thought to be fakes anyway.”
Michael always questioning asked,
“How do you know the other one wasn’t a fake?”
“She raised us. Mom’s AMP skills were pretty impressive. Her and dad were undefeatable out in battle. Granted they were always a lot smaller than now, but…”
“Sorry Maxwell, but we stick with the plan.”
Max nodded his head in defeat. He couldn’t bear the thought of Liz going into battle with them, but the alternative, as Liz had clearly pointed out, wasn’t an option. They went to war in five days. Hopefully for the last time.
“Anybody else hungry?”
He was already in the kitchen by the time he heard their response.
“KYLE!”

Part 60
Khivar pursed his lips as Niko entered the room. He pushed Sundari’s hand away as he straightened out his own robes.
“Well?”
“It’s much worse than we thought sir.”
“Give me the numbers Niko.”
“Roughly 1/5 are dead or so badly injured we should put them out of their misery without any proper healers with us.”
“Skin troops are easy to come by. I’m not concerned with their well-being. I want to know how that pesky sister of mine managed to get inside all five of our heads for so long. Only Jared doesn’t have extreme mental powers. It shouldn’t have been possible.”
“You’re right sir, the same way they shouldn’t have all been able to disappear like that.”
At this point Lonnie walks in having taken care of the troops that were of no more use to them.
“Yo, Khivar, these Skin types aren’t gonna keep comin’ to this revoltin’ planet if they gonna be wacked by the cornballs.”
Slightly peeved by the interruption Khivar glanced her way before answer in a sinister tone,
“Vilandra, my dear, you imply they have a choice in the first place.”
The others smirked at the comment.
“Maybe they have an AMP with them, your majesty. After all my sister was one. Perhaps in this life Rath or Raeanne have developed that skill.”
Khivar gave Sundari a thoughtful look seeming to mull it over. The idea took form in his head.
“No, not one of the Warriors. Perhaps though one of those humans the fallen King unknowingly blessed with our gifts. Yes, I’m sure that’s what it is."
Lonnie frowned, “If they got an AMP shouldn’t we be a bit more concerned?”
Niko sneered happily as he pulled Lonnie to him, stroking her arm in what could only pass as reassurance.
“My love why would that worry us? The Royal rejects had the Granolith on their side and barely escaped alive.”
“Yes Vilandra, do not fret the next time we come up against Zan and his foolish band of idiots will be the last.”
Excited now, Niko addressed him, “You have a plan?”
“Always.”
Lonnie looked up, "We gonna hunt them down? Find where they're hiding from that crazy energy pattern their bouncing around the atmosphere?"
"Hardly, why bother. They'll be back within a weeks time. We don't need to waste our resources finding them when they will come to us."
“Well are you going to share your plan then?” Sundari had to ask her interest was provoked.
“In time. Let’s just say it has to do with our little friend we picked up the other day in Roswell.”
They all shared in a laugh as they turned to the body chained to the wall.
Their laughter rose as they took in the wrinkled clothes, and the black and blue form of the unconscious Jeff Parker.

Khivar pursed his lips as Niko entered the room. He pushed Sundari’s hand away as he straightened out his own robes.
“Well?”
“It’s much worse than we thought sir.”
“Give me the numbers Niko.”

Part 61
With a new plan of action the house was anything but silent throughout the following days.
Their brush with death wasn’t forgotten but they choose not to live in fear of repeating it next time. They all made plans for their future; discussing weddings, going to school, in Jim’s case buying a bigger house for his ever-expanding family.
Ava finally told the girls about her engagement to Spencer and the shrieks of joy that followed had all the guys running at breakneck speed up the stairs with their arms raised ready for attack only to find the girls laughing on the bed.
Very soon Liz was the butt of all their jokes because of all the odd mixtures she was managing to stuff down her throat. It wasn’t long before even Michael wouldn’t go near her when she was eating and he refused to fix her what she wanted.
The next day after Christina, Michael, and Maria had shared their plan they decided after lunch they would begin practicing. They would work until dinner when they would stop to eat and take a two-hour break before starting back up until midnight. The third day was spent completely practicing, pushing themselves to their limits. Then pushing each other a little bit further.
Each Four Square went up against the other seven with powers finding the best way to channel their energy into attack.
The warrior Four Square decided to send their energies towards Michael and Spencer to enhance their blasts doing the most damage as possible.
The others sent their energy to Alex with his deflective shield, then practiced sending it towards Liz who managed to send off pretty dangerous blasts. Isabel and Max worked at spreading her shield and then projecting it forwards to attack.
On her own on the second day during a break, Liz wanted to discover how much stronger she actually was now that she was pregnant. During her afternoon naptime when the others thought she was sleeping she attempted to astral project herself to her mom.
She had no idea where her mom was so she was very surprised when she suddenly found herself in a small room with her mom resting up in a bed talking with Amy and Diane.
Liz waved towards the three women, but found they couldn’t actually see her. She walked over to the bedside and reached out to her mom’s hand. She touched it and suddenly she noticed their surprised reactions as she became visible to all three of them.
“LIZ?”
She nodded her head, “Yeah.”
They frowned and she realized they, like Max, couldn’t hear her.
“Are you all okay?”
She smiled and nodded. Then pointed towards them and raised an eyebrow in question.
“Oh Lizzie, we’re all fine. Worried sick about our babies, but we’re fine. Liz, your father…he…” Noticing the tears in Liz’s eyes and her understanding Nancy trailed off not even sure how to continue.
Liz squeezed her mom’s hand tighter trying to reassure her that they would find him.
“Liz,” she turned towards Diane, “Max and Isabel are they holding up okay. I mean especially Isabel we heard about Jesse’s death.”
Liz frowned. How did they hear that? More importantly, how was she to explain all that without words? She smiled at her mother-in-law as an idea crossed her mind. She reached out for her hand.
Diane gasped as Liz’s hand gazed across the back of her own and she was hit with a flash of Isabel and Alex as they walked into the Crashdown giggling. Then she saw Max standing in front of his friends who clearly respected and trusted whatever he was saying.
Liz pulled her hand back and smiled as tears slowly filled Diane’s eyes. “Thank you.”
Liz nodded her head and then turned towards Amy just knowing she had something to say.
“Tell Jim he better not get himself killed while out there with you children. He’s not as young as all of you. And tell Michael he better protect my baby girl or else… Be safe Liz, all of you be safe.”
Liz nodded again and reached out to Amy to reassure her too. The flash passed by Amy’s closed eyes and she barely had time to recognize Jim and Kyle together again before an image of Michael pulling Maria to his side and kissing her temple flashed into her mind, disappearing before Liz pulled her hand back once more.
“Thanks Liz. Remember to take care of each other.”
Liz smiled and turned to her mom she mouthed, “I love you mom.”
Nancy grabbed Liz pulling her towards her in a fierce embrace. “I love you too Lizzy. You make sure you all come back to us. We’ll be waiting.”
Liz stepped back nodding her head and gave one last smile before she faded back to her bedroom.
She woke up and wiped the tears tracks from her cheeks.
Max joined her on the bed. “Did it work.”
Not even wondering how he figured out what she was up to, she responded, “Yeah, your mom sends her love and I have to go warn Michael about Amy.”
Max gawked at Liz she noticed this and self-consciously tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
“What Max?”
He smiled at her broadly before pulling her to him and kissing her forehead.
“Valenti said they were in Maine. Liz it’s amazing that you reached that far and they saw you. You talked to them too?”
Clearly awed by her power Max sat back as she explained,
“No, at first they couldn’t see me but then I got closer to my mom and went to hold her hand and then suddenly they all saw me, but they couldn’t hear me. They talked to me though and I was able to send them flashes. Max… my mom was so worried about my dad. We have to find him.”
“Don’t worry Liz we will. I promise we’ll find out what happen to him. I came up to let you know diner was ready and Michael even made you something.”
Liz smiled, “Really? Michael made me dinner?” Then seeming to realize how long she was asleep, “ I was out that long?”
Max smirked, “Oh yeah, it was under threat of Maria and I’m pretty sure he made himself sick in the process. We decided to let you rest up while we continued practicing. After dinner though we’re gonna be working with Ava so we’ll need everyone’s help.”
Liz nodded as she followed Max downstairs laughing at the thought of Michael. They joined the others around the table settling in for a peaceful meal.
Liz told Jim what Amy had said then she gave Michael Amy’s warning to which he just rolled his eyes and stuffed more food into his mouth.
Maria looked at him with a death glare
“What Maria, it’s not like she’s telling me something I wasn’t gonna do already. You’re mothers nuts.”
“Hey that’s my wife.”
“Michael don’t talk about my mom that way.”
Kyle leaned over towards Serena, “I think it’s genetic too.”
She elbowed him in the side as she muffled her own laugh.
Kyle went back to eating his food rubbing his now swore ribs in his attempted humor.
“Liz was my mom there?”
She turned to Izzie nodding her head, “Yeah she was worried about you. I guess they had heard about Jesse’s death. I gave her a flash though of you and Alex happy together. I hope that’s okay? She was really happy for you and really proud of you, Max.”
Isabel smiled in thanks and squeezed Alex’s hand as she wiped the stray tears from her eyes.
Ava hated to break up the semi-joyous mood but they had things to discuss for the day after tomorrow.
“So how exactly I’m I going to practice this? It’s not like we have 2,000 people lying around for me to work with.”
Max nodded his head in agreement while Christina fielded the question,
“I have a couple ideas for that. There are what 11 of us here. Plus both Serena and myself have really strong mental powers and Isabel too combined with her shield to deflect mental attacks.
We could first have you mind warp all of us and see how long you can hold it. Then work on individual mind warps at the same time. Then Serena and I can throw our powers into the mix while your warping all of us. And lastly Isabel could use the shield. We’ll see how much of that you can do individually and then with Jim’s help.”
With a plan set up the rest of dinner past by quietly as everyone worked on preparing themselves mentally for the upcoming practice.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ava’s practice was very tiring for everyone involved. Around midnight they all settled in for the night looking forward to sleeping in late.
The house woke up to laughter in the kitchen. As they all made their way downstairs they found the Valenti men eating cereal with their fishing equipment still on the counter.
Michael smirked, “Didn’t catch anything?”
“Hardly, Grasshopper made us toss it all back.”
Kyle just shook his head figuring if they didn’t already they would never really understand it.
The day was filled with apprehension, as everyone seemed to tip toe around each other. The fact that tomorrow they were going to war again weighed heavily on their shoulders.
Conversations were brief and in most cases whispered. At numerous points of the day some of them would wander off.
Max and Isabel walked to the park that was nearby since it was nearly deserted Isabel waved her hand and it started to lightly snow. Max gave her a soft smile and pulled a basketball from behind his back. “A little one on one?”
Isabel returned his smile, “It won’t be the same without mom and dad.”
Max nodded his head in agreement, “That’s okay. Its just practice so we kick their butts next time.”
Isabel laughed and grabbed the ball from her brother running towards the court as the light snowstorm died off.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Back at the house Michael and Christina were sitting in the backyard goofing around with their powers a little changing the color and shapes of some stones.
Never one for words Michael began hesitantly unsure how his suggestion would be taken.
“So…ah…maybe after all this is over you could move out here to be by the rest of us. Or at the very least we could move out somewhere closer to you. I’ve always kind of envied Max and Isabel and that whole sibling thing they have. Now that I remember Rae and Rath I’d like to get that back.”
Christina smiled,
“We, as in all eight of the original Roswellians?”
Michael blushed, “Actually, if it went that way I was thinking we as in Maria and myself." After only a brief pause he rushed on in fear, "Don’t mention that to her though. I don’t want her getting any ideas.”
She full out laughed, “Trust me Michael that girl has plenty ideas already. I’d like that though, getting to know you in this life, that is. I believe we have all lost so much already it be a shame to have to lose anything else unnecessarily.”
Michael nodded in quiet reflection, he handed a stone to Christina, “Think she’ll like it?”
Christina turned the stone over in her hand, perfectly smooth and a shiny green color. It was shaped into a star and read, ‘M&M-Love that blinds the brightest stars.’
“Why General, I do believe you’ve turned into a sappy romantic. Wait till I tell the others.”
Michael saw the laughed about to bubble up from within her and snatched back his stone for Maria, “You wish Princess.”
They shared a smile and Michael nudged her with his shoulder. She nudged him back and then rested her head on his shoulder and gazed up into the clouds.

Upstairs Liz, Maria, and Alex where spread out on what had become Liz’s bed. Chatting away like they had done a hundred times since they were younger. Reminiscing about the younger days before the aliens had entered their lives and rocked their worlds. Quiet literally.
That lasted for all of twenty minutes before the previously mention aliens enter the conversation and each one bragged about how lucky they were and how happy. All three equally glad that their two best friends had found that love and had a chance for happiness.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
In a very odd sense of deja vu, Jim sat at the kitchen table as Kyle and Ava joked around as she showed him how to make the Tabasco Swirl cookies that had become such a huge hit thanks to Liz.
Suddenly an idea struck him, “Ava, are you going back to Seattle when this is all over?”
She blushed slightly, “Ah, Spence and me talked about settling down in Cottage Grove, Oregon after the wedding and everything, I guess. We really liked it there when we had stayed there on this grand adventure of ours.”
“Well until then I want you to know that you have a home with us. If you want that is and after I get that larger house. Even afterwards just know that you’ll always have home with us.”
Ava smiled briefly and then her brows furrowed together. “Jim, I’m not her. I can’t replace her for you.”
Jim looked startled, “I wouldn’t want you too. I’d want you to be Ava and fill that place that’s already there for you. I would never expect you to be Tess. We wouldn't want you to be. Plus you could never be so heartless.”
Kyle smiled, “Yeah come on Ava it will be fun! Hanging out with us charming Valenti men and those crazy DeLuca women, what’s not to love?”
Ava laughed, “Okay, alright I’ll think about it. Besides it would only be temporary right?”
They both nodded innocently as Ava turned back to the cookies.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Spencer and Serena were in the living room, the TV was on and both stared at it unseeing as a commercial came on.
“I don’t like it.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to like it.”
“He’s not good enough.”
“No one ever will be.”
“Mom and dad won’t like it either.”
“Mom will love him once she meets him. Dad will too in time.”
Spencer huffed as he glared at his baby sister.
“How do you think they’ll react when they find out your engaged and you haven’t even introduced them to Ava.”
She smirked at her brother’s sudden discomfort.
“I still don’t like it.”
She laughed, “Relax bro, Kyle hasn’t even asked me out.”
“Yeah, but he looks at you like…like…”
“Like you look at Ava?”
“Humph…”
Serena laughed again, “Maybe you should think about tomorrow instead, it will give you less worry lines.”
Spencer joined his sister in laughter as they settle deeper into the couch and turned their attention to the TV as the movie came back.

Part 62
It was breakfast the next morning, the sun was barely up all the way and they were all quiet.
“Royal Formation…”
“What?”
The others had barely heard Michael’s mumbled thought.
“Christina, you said something about the Royal Formation the other day with Khivar? I can’t remember, I mean I know it’s important, but I don’t know why.”
Just hearing about it again made Christina’s blood boil. Serena and Spencer too looked very upset not having noticed it the other day.
“It was part of a ceremony I guess you could say. It was to present the Royals to the people of the Antarian system. Usually it’s done right after the King’s wedding, but Rath couldn’t find Rae. You all assumed she was off with the Granolith. Zan said it could wait until he and Ava returned from their honeymoon.”
“But then Vilandra was captured.”
Christina nodded towards Isabel, “Yeah, Landra got kidnapped by Khivar and when she was freed, she died so the Royals were never presented to the people. Even if the others didn’t die so soon after Landra, she was gone and could never be replaced.”
Always curious Liz wondered out loud, “Was that all it was like a ceremony. I mean nothing else special about it?”
“Basically yeah, at least based on all the other Royal Formations that have taken place. Granted we were different so something could have happened, but I guess well never know.”
Serena scowled, “Khivar was just using it to slap us in the face.”
“What else do you expect from him, Rena?”
“Nothing at all Spence.”
Michael’s eyes briefly shimmered a golden color, “Rae wasn’t with the Granolith though was she?”
The others were startled by Michael’s tone and his close observation to what Christina had said in passing.
Christina gulped and looked down shaking her head no.
Max looked between the siblings as one hide their face in shame and the other’s eyes flicker gold again before he spoke,
“Where were you Princess?”
It was barely a whisper,
“With Khivar.”
Instantly the table was in chaos.
Alex and Liz’s jaws dropped open.
Maria, Isabel and Ava tried to speak but they were beginning to hyperventilate.
Spencer and Serena were standing and directing questions at her to explain herself.
Kyle and Jim wore identical frowns and confusion filled their eyes.
Michael glared at Christina if possible even harder until the gold that was flickering in his eyes was zigzagging in his hands.
Max too was standing yelling about betrayals and mistrust.
Christina looked at all of them in utter confusion; finally her eyes met her brothers and her eyes too flickered gold. In that moment she got of flash of what he and all the others were thinking.
The lights began to flicker and the table vibrated beneath them all. Just as quickly as they all began everyone shut up and sat down.
In a deadly tone Christina spit out not sure if she was disgusted with them or herself for allowing that kind of confusion.
“I would never do THAT! I wanted to stop him, tired to stop him. But I failed. I thought if I used the Granolith and our connection I could deal with Khivar before he put his plan into action. I was wrong.”
The others rushed to apologize and she waved them off it was another lifetime ago anyway.
Michael’s eyes soften and turned back to their usual brown, “Princess…” he looked so remorseful. His eyes glisten with gathering tears.
“No General. It’s okay. I would expect nothing less from my big brother. Michael, you were just worried for all of us. Don’t apologize for that. Don’t ever be sorry for trying to protect us.”
Maria looked at Christina in confusion, “So you tried to kill Khivar and obviously failed. So what he just let you go?”
“No, Khivar would never just let anyone go. Niko tried to get into my mind, but it wasn’t possible with all of us still alive, and my connection to the Granolith. So instead he beat me to within an inch of my life. Probably would have killed me too, but Khivar pulled him back made a comment about it being so much better if they waited till after.”
Alex eyebrows wrinkled together, “After what?”
Christian shrugged as she scratched at her own eyebrow, “Most obvious would be after he killed my family which is what he did. But then you have to remember he thought he killed Raeanne when he captured Vilandra so who knows really.”
“So Niko and Khivar almost beat you to death and we don’t notice this?”
Christina looked into the furious eyes of her brother. No longer was the fury directed at her, but at himself and the others for no recognizing her pain.
“Hardly Michael, I never gave you any a chance. I crept back into the palace as quietly as I left. Then I hid in my room until I had the energy needed to heal myself. Rath and Landra just assumed I was with the Granolith because that’s where I could always be found back then.”
There was a knock front door. Everyone froze, forks were lifted halfway to open mouths, cups inches away from being put back on the table.
Everyone held their breath. The only movement was their eyes as they moved back and forth looking towards one another for an answer no one held.
Finally Michael sighed and stood up. He held up a hand to the others signaling them to stay. His eyes met Maria’s and he gave her a small smile to calm the rising fear he saw there. Then he glanced towards Christina and raised an eyebrow at her very deliberately. She returned the unspoken question with a nod of her own head.
“Michael.” Max hissed it through his clenched jaw as tension ran through his whole body.
“Two minutes, Maxwell.” And with that he was gone from the kitchen. He reached the door, checked the window beside it but didn’t see anyone.
He grabbed the door handle and slowly turned the knob before wrenching the door open.
Only to find no one there.
He scanned the entire street. There was a man four houses down mowing the law. A lady across the street was digging in her garden. Two kids where ridding bikes in the street. Other than that the street was quiet and empty. He stepped back and was about to close the door when the small paper on the doorstep caught his attention.
He reached down and picked up the envelope. Scrawled across the front in read Fallen Court of Antar. The golden flicker returned to his hands as Michael again searched the street for an enemy. Giving up he closed the door and went back to the kitchen.
“Mail’s here.”
“It’s Sunday, no mail delivery today.”
Michael cast Kyle a look hoping he wasn’t serious. If he was though, Spencer provided an answer.
“It’s not that kind of mail.”
“He’s got that right. Fallen Court of Antar, Maxwell I’ll give you the honor.”
Max took the envelop from Michael and slowly open it pulling out its contents. The others watched as Max paled dramatically, his hand coming to cover his mouth as a whispered “Oh God,” escaped.
“Liz, its…I’m so sorry.” He looked up into her liquid brown eyes his own amber gaze reflecting so much sorrow and guilt,
“I know what happen to you dad Liz.”
Max set the picture on the table and the others finally got a glimpse of the body that resembled Jeff Parker’s.
The lights that had flickered earlier when Christina was so mad suddenly exploded as Liz clenched her fist at her side.
“They’ll pay for this.”
No one said a word. They didn’t have too; all were in agreement that the pain and suffering that had befallen to them for so long was going to end and it was going to end now.

It was breakfast the next morning, the sun was barely up all the way and they were all quiet.
