"Kyle or Alex? You know those two clowns?" I ask in surprise. Then I correct myself. "Or rather that one clown and the nice guy? You know I think Alex made an impression on my friend Isabel the other night at the club. Were you there with them?" I ask. Huh, small world. Who would have thought that all of us would hook up? Well, with the exception of Michael and Maria. They didn't seem to hit it off at all.

I nearly drop the phone at this revelation. I'm trying to seduce...wait a minute, not seduce, snare? Is that a better word? Oh it doesn't matter!! I'm trying to hook up with Isabel's brother?! What the hell is she trying to do exactly? Why would she want to hurt her brother? I'm gonna have to have a talk with that girl!
"My god the world is getting smaller by the minute," I joke, happy that my voice sounds normal. "Yes, we're good friends, Isabel and I." At least we were. I don't know now. How the heck am I supposed to appease my conscience about making Max Evans fall in love with me and ask me to marry him and then dump his ass? "So you're Isabel's big brother. Well, I suppose I might have made the connection sooner if I had known your last name was Evans until a few minutes ago. Why didn't Isabel tell me who you were?" Oops, I didn't mean to ask that last question out loud.

I came back into town and kinda avoided her at the club so that we could meet up on better circumstances and... yeah she saw me. Plus she's now dating Alex who's one of my best friends after I asked him to stay away..."

Ok, now I'm really confused. If Isabel is mad at Max, why the bet with him as the target? I've really gotta talk to her, but I want to think about this for a while.
Deciding to let it go for right now and use this information to my advantage, I reply with, "Well, I suppose it's her loss if she doesn't want to talk to you. She never mentioned how handsome or caring you can be. Although I know she's told me that you two used to be really close."

I have absolutely no shame. As soon as Liz walked out onto that balcony, I moved closer to hear what she was saying and try to figure out who she's talking to. I've heard her say "Max", "You're Isabel's brother", and flirt with the guy like there is no tomorrow. But it's not like her normal flirting. She's actually sounding sincere and like the friend that we usually know not the side she usually shows to guys. Maybe Isabel was onto something with this bet thing. I turn to see if Tess followed me to listen in on Liz's conversation or if she's being a good friend and stayed by the TV.

I guess thoughts about my mom come up at the worst times. Quick, Liz! Say somthing to lighten the wet blanket you just dumped on the conversation! I add playfully, "Or maybe because I don't see how anyone could stay mad at someone as cute as you."
