Chapter eleven
Max's POV
I meet Liz at the Gazebo and she's talking to another guy, her cousin. Just like her, he was a singer. He looks at me for one moment and I know he's asking her about me. She nods and then whispers to him.
"Liz." I call her and she looked away from him to see me standing there.
She hugs her cousin goodbye and then takes off, I follow behind her as my cue.
I join Liz at the balcony who gives me a grim silence before speaking. "What happened last night Max?".
Ah, the morning after question. I think I'll have a little fun with my poor clueless employer. "Liz...I hate to say this but.."
"Oh god please.." Liz braces herself.
"We made hot sweet love last night. It was so amazing." I sigh, gasping in pleasure. Reaching out, I cup her cheeks in my hands. "Seriously babe, we were on fire last night...you begged me to love you over and over again."
"You're lying." Liz shook her head. "We did nothing."
"I didn't expect you to remember." I plant a kiss on her nose. "You were exhausted at the end of it..." I ponder for a moment. "Well come to think of it, I was even surprised there was an end."
"Maax." She shoves me back. "You're supposed to do as I say, not the other way around."
"But I did...I did do what you say..you wanted me to fuck you." I protest, enjoying this little banter of fun.
"Oh my god." She blushed. "You're not going to charge me extra are you?".
"Well..you did get lucky last night." I trace my finger over her bottom lip..
She shivers for a moment and then press my finger against her lip as she tries to say something. "Shhh...just let it be."
We're both silent for a while and look into each other eyes. I can tell she's trying to remember last night, trying to work out what happened between us.
"I can't remember." She said sadly. "I really can't."
Feeling a bit upset and a tinge of guilt, I reveal the truth to her. "Don't worry Liz." My voice now hoarse and serious. "Nothing happened."
Her eyes widens in shock as her face contorts, her lips part and it takes a more then one attempt to say something. "You asshole." She delivers a light blow to my chest. "How could you lie to me about that!". She hits me again. "Jerk!".
I laugh it off. "You should have seen the look on your face! Priceless!".
"You are going to get so punished tonight Evans." She pointed at him. "You can count on it."
She turns around and reels herself out of the room. I shake my head.
I love it when she's angry...

Liz's POV
Oh that Max Evans. What did I do to deserve such a joke? For a minute I actually believed him. I knew we couldn't possibly have slept together last night because I was so out of it. But something...a part of me actually wanted to believe it which scared me...
"Elizabeth dear." Aunt Isis walks into my room. "You look fantabulous in that dress."
"Thanks Aunt Isis." I reply, fixing on my necklace.
Today was the unfortunate Tango dance practice. Another chance to have Marcus and Ava in my face.
We're already at the dance studio with our dance instructor Jose Sanchez, whose so happy to see us again. The last I practised Tango was when I was fifteen.
Everyone was pairing up, Serena had Ryan, Our parents were together and I was with Max. My eyes were on Marcus who was putting the music on and to my surprise Ava was nowhere to be seen. Catherine and Egbert were the main couple in the room, everyone was talking about them..well most of them were.
First, we get into the basics, one step to steps and then when Jose is satisfied that we have the hang of it, we're ready to dance without instructions.
A slow tempo beat starts up, everyone is moving together slowly. Max's hand is on my back and the other is holding my hand. We slowly move together and Marcus is reciting a poem he seemed to have put together during the last minute.
"Love is in the air tonight, I can feel it. The scents of two lovers making love on the dance floor....Love is perfection."
"What a lousy poem." Max muttered in my ear. "No rhyming couplets, not even a decent haiku nor a good sestina. The guy's a fool."
"Shut up." I mumble trying to hide my laughter. It was even more shocking that I was finding it funny. "Marcus happens to get his poetic vibes from me..."
"Is that so?". He raises his eyebrow.
I knew Marcus couldn't sing if his life depended on it. Here I was defending him but it was so damn funny what Max said. "You're paid to compliment me, not insult me."
A more faster beat plays and Max dips me. "Funny..." He whispers in my ear. "So this is insulting for you." His lips capture mine while I'm in his arms in this position.
I feel myself tremble as he locks lips with me right in front of everyone. Before I could react, Max pulled me up and left my lips before twirling me around and pulling me back in his arms.
"Marcus doesn't definitely get his poetic vibes from you." Max stated, knowing that I had lied.
"Oh yeah.." I challenged. "How you know that?".
"Because your beautiful songs can't even be compared to his shit lyrics."
Max brings me up against him. "Don't try and take a chance with me." I answer, teasing Max.
"I didn't know you were giving chances." He teases back.
I can't help but laugh and then I notice Marcus staring at us with narrowed eyes.
