I know I said it was going to be longer, but I had to write the next chapter for my Creative Writing class today so I couldn’t write much. So anyways, here is the next part...
Part 8b

I gulped. Liz looked like she would and could kill. It was kind of scary. But I had to tell her my side of the story.

“Liz...” I started, but she interrupted me.

“Max! I hate you! You go around school saying that you can get any girl you want. Then when Maria tells you to go after me you, being the self assured asshole that you are, agreed to it!” Liz yelled, causing many heads in the room to turn in our direction.

“Do I need to send you two to the office?” Mrs. Wiggins said.

“Sorry.” I mumbled more to Liz than to the class.

“What do you mean sorry? Hell you are such a jerk. I hate you!” Liz said. She didn’t make any sense, but I could tell she was calming down some.

“Ok, why are you so mad at me? I couldn’t very well back down from a challenge. But now I am sorry for it. I mean, you seem like a nice person. But shouldn’t you be more mad at Maria than me.” I said. And it was true, it had been originally Maria’s idea.

Liz sat down on a stool. It looked like she was thinking hard about what I had just said.

“I guess you are right. But don’t revel in it. I mean I am still really mad at you. So lets just do our work and then this class will finally be over.” Liz said. I was happy. Now she would more than likely blow up at Maria.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Maria like a sister. But I was glad because of this. She thought that she could tell me off and not get into it. Well the tables have turned.

Part 9

Now lunch was another story. It seems that Maria has Liz in her class before lunch. So now Maria is pissed at me, or so Michael has said. We had turned Michael into the person who told us what the other one had just said.

“Tell Max that I am never going to talk to him again.” Maria told Michael so he could tell me.

“Well tell Maria that it’s a good thing. Cause if she did talk to me, she would end up telling everyone else about it later.” I said before Michael even got a word out.

Michael turned to tell Maria but she interrupted him before he could get a word out.

“Max, I said I was sorry. What more do you want?” Maria asked. And at that Michael threw his hands up in the air, defeated.

“You know what, I give up. Maria are you so mad at Max that you do not want to talk to him again?” Michael asked. He was being really strange right now for some reason.

“No.” Was all that Maria said. It was kind of a relief to me.

“And, Max, are you so mad at Maria that you do not want to talk to her ever again?” Michael asked me. I already knew the answer to that question. I was a no-brainer for me.

“No.” I said. And I really meant it. I didn’t want to stop talking to Maria, she was my best girl friend.

It was then that I noticed Alex and Kyle moving their heads in an odd way.

“Are you guys okay?” I asked. And then I laughed when they straightened their heads and started eating again.

“Max, you are getting off track. Now by the power vested in me by being your guy friend, Max, and being your boyfriend, Maria. I now pronounce you guy friend and chick friend. You may hug my girlfriend, Max.” Michael said which made me and Maria laugh.

I stood up, as did Maria, and went over to hug Maria. And when I did she grabbed me and gave me this really big bear hug. Then she whispered sorry again and I told her not to worry about it.

After we were done with our whole hug and make up thing, we both went to our spots and sat back down.

“Now, Max, about Liz. I talked to her last night and I found out some very interesting things. But I don’t know if I want to tell you ‘cause you may use what I tell you to try and get with Liz.” Maria said eating a baby carrot.

“Maria, Liz hates me. There is no way I could get together with her, even if I tried.” I said which was true.

“The man’s got a point.” Kyle said. I knew he was good for something. Who knew it was to help me prove a point.

I watch Maria, who appears to be doing some hard thinking. But I know that brain was going about a mile a minute.

“Ok, I’ll tell but what I tell you all must not leave this table. Is that clear?” Maria asked. Everyone nodded but Alex, who had a confused look on his face.

“What is it Alex?” I asked sensing a question coming.

I watched as he tried to find a way to word his question until finally he asked it.

“What do you mean, it can’t leave this table?” Alex asked. How did it take him that long to find a way to ask that?

“It means that you can’t tell anyone about what we talk about.” Kyle said. I couldn’t have said it any better myself.

Alex finally understood it or he looked like he did, so Maria started telling us what she had found out.

“Ok, you know how Liz was living out of State? Well it turns out that she was living in New York City with her cousin Holly. And she even had a boyfriend. I think that his name was Dave or Lucas or something. But anyways she lived in this ‘cute’ little apartment. And she came back because her parents back in their life. But they hadn’t really wanted her at first. So now she is here. Kind of crazy, huh?” Maria said. And although she said it to where it was all jumbled up, she got the point out.

“Wow.” Was all that anyone could say, except me. I was speechless. I was at the moment anyways.

I was going to say something though. But the bell ended up ringing before I could get even one word out.

Part 10

That night for dinner I decided to go to the Crashdown once again. But this time I sat in Maria’s section.

“Hey, Max, what can I get for you? The usual?” Maria asked me as soon as I sat down.

“Of course. I’m not feeling very adventurous tonight.” I said, and it was true. Plus it was quick and I sort of had a date with a girl from the bookstore.

I don’t know exactly how I managed to get a date. It sort of just happened. All I know is that she is really hot, her name is Michelle, and that she goes to a different school, which is good for me.

Maria had since left and then come back with my food. So I ate, paid, and then left to get ready for my date.

One and half hours later

I pulled into Michelle’s driveway and double checked the paper I had the address written on. It was right.

I got out of my jeep and went up to the front door and rang the bell. Soon enough Michelle came out and we went back to the jeep and I drove us to the movie.

When we got there the place was packed. So we hurried to get our tickets and then went to find our seats.

Three hours later

That was quite a date. I am now at home since I took Michelle home.

It was quite a date. We didn’t even get a chance to watch the movie. We hardly even got the chance to watch the previews.

After going at our making out for a while things had turned a lot more serious. And we ended up getting kicked out of the theater.

But that wasn’t the end of our date. We ended up driving out to the desert to look at the stars, but that didn’t last long. Needless to say I think Michelle was the one who saw stars.

At first glance you wouldn’t that Michelle would be so easy. I would have to say that she spreads like butter. I think that the next time I will go out with Michelle again will be some from her.

The next thing I know the phone is ringing. So I go and answer it.

“Hello.” I say waiting for the person on the other line to talk.

“Hiiii, Maxxx. It’sssss Mariaaaa. I neeeed a riiiideeee!” I hear Maria say into the phone. She must have gone to a party tonight after her shift had been up.

“Ok. Maria, where are you?” I asked taking the cordless phone with me to the front door where I got my keys and opened the front door.

“I’mm at Suzzz- Suzz- Suzzzziesss!” Maria said messing up on Suzzie’s name. I hung the phone then and left to go and get Maria.

Part 11


It took me ten to fifteen minutes to get to Suzzie’s house from mine. And as soon as I got there I went to the front room where Maria was sure to be.

When I got in the room the smell of beer was hard to miss. Suzzie was going to be in some deep shit when her parents got home from where ever they were.

I searched around the room until I saw Maria. She was sitting on the floor with a couple of empty beer bottles around her. Her mom was definitely not going to like this very much.

“Come on Maria, let’s go.” I said walking towards her and stepping over a girl that was almost directly in front of her.

Maria looked up at me and smiled. Then her face turned sour and she threw up on the floor beside her.

I waited until she was done. Then I took her arm and I started to lead her towards the door when the person that had been in front of Maria turned over. I noticed her right away. It was Liz.

I looked at Maria and decided she was sober enough to walk. So I made a split second decision.

“Maria go out to my jeep and get in. I’ll be there in a minute.” I said showing her the door.

Then I went to get Liz who was now sitting up on the floor looking very confused. I knelt down next to her.

“Liz are you okay? Do you need a ride?” I asked. She looked fine, just a little dazed.

“Not from you thank you very much.” Liz said standing up, yet she stumbled a little. I tried to help her but she batted my hand away.

“Well then, who do you plan on getting a ride from then?” I asked. I wanted to hear what she could come up with.

“I’ll get a ride from...from...Mark.” She said. I knew it was a lie.

“Mark who?” I asked. I knew for certain she wouldn’t get this one.

“Mark Anthony.” Liz said simply. I laughed. This was priceless.

“Honey, if Mark Anthony shows up to take you home, I’ll let you go. But since he’s not gonna show I’ll take you home. I got Maria with me anyways.” I said taking her arm and practically dragging her out the door. When we got to the jeep she got in the front because Maria was in the back passed out.

Liz got in her seat and put her seat belt on. I went to get in the driver’s seat and drover to Maria’s house to drop her off.

I pulled into Maria’s driveway and then I got out to let Maria out of the back seat. I tried to be quiet but Amy came out of the front door to see what was going on. And Sheriff Valenti was with her. It was too late to think of why he would be there so I didn’t worry.

“What happened?” Amy asked taking Maria from me. We were on a first name basis due to the fact that I’ve known her all my life.

“Party.” Is all I said. We knew each other well enough to tell each other things in just one word.

“Ok. Thank-you for taking her home, Max. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow night for movies.” Amy said and then walked back in the house with Maria and Valenti.

After dropping Maria off I had to drop Liz off. So I drove to the Crashdown and self consciously parked in my usual spot. Then I got out and helped Liz out.

“Liz is there any way to get in your room without your parents knowing?” I asked. I didn’t want her to get in any trouble.

“Yeah. The fire escape leads right to the balcony which is right outside my room. I’ll be okay. I guess I’ll see you later.” Liz said and then walked to the fire escape and climbed up. I watched her until she was over the edge. Then I got back in my jeep and drove home.

Part 12

The next day I had to work. I work at the UFO Center. I know it’s lame but it’s a paying job.

I’m mainly just one of the people that sets things up and sometimes I work the cash register. Today I had to take the things from the back room and set them up in front of the window for the Alien Convention next week.

So there I was in the window setting up fake alien bodies and alien heads. And don’t forget the fake spaceships. Not too hard of a job right? Well it’s not hard physically but it seems to me like everyone seems to walk by the window when I’m working.

Like today Stacey walked by, saw me, and gave me the finger. I don’t blame her though, I mean I just broke up with her. At least I still have Nichole and now Michelle.

“Max, it’s time for your lunch break.” Brody said suddenly from behind me. I turned around to face him, alien head along with me.

“Max, It’s eleven twenty. It’s time for your lunch break. Now put the alien head down and go to lunch.” Brody repeated. I set down the alien head and went to the door to go across the street to the Crashdown.

The walk from the UFO Center to the Crashdown was less than two minutes. Soon I was in the cool air conditioned cafe.

I walked to the counter. My food would have to be to go and I had to get Brody’s lunch too. We usually ate in the Center. I don’t know exactly why we do it. It’s just what we do.

I was at the counter for a while when finally a waitress came to take my order. I gave her mine along with Brody’s. She wrote it down then went to give it to the cook.

I swiveled around in my chair and faced the rest of the cafe. It was kind of packed, not a lot, but it would be once the lunch rush got here. I looked around and saw Maria sitting in a corner booth. She obviously had a hangover. So I got up and went to the booth she was in.

“Maria!” I said loudly in her ear when I was next to her. She doesn’t really like it. But I do it every day after she gets drunk. It’s actually very fun.

“Maxwell Evans! How dare you!” Maria yelled and I could tell she regretted doing it because she cupped her head in her hands.

See, fun.

“Max,” she said after a while, “I swear I’m never going to drink again.”

I laughed, she said this every time. She never follows through.

“Don’t worry about it, Maria. But from what I heard and saw, you were quite buddy buddy with our good friend Lizzie last night. I even had to take her home.” I said, I wanted hear what she had to say.

“Yeah I apologized and we made up. Then when Henry invited us to Suzzie’s party, we agreed to go. She sure did spew a lot when she was drunk. She said something about how her parents didn’t want her. And then she said that you were sexy, or maybe it was stupid. I was pretty buzzed so I don’t remember too much.” She said. Now thanks to that everything made a whole lot more sense.

“Order up!” I heard a waitress say. I looked over and saw that it was my order.

“Well Maria, it’s been fun. I’ll see you tonight for movies.” I say getting up out of the booth.

“Bye.” She said and then proceeded to put her head down on the table, which makes me laugh. She’s so funny when she has a hangover.

I wait a second then I go and get my order and go back to the UFO Center.

Part 13

I showed up at Maria’s house at 7:00 sharp. I had brought the essentials with me. Ice cream, pop corn, soda, Alex, a movie, and twizzlers.

I made my way up to the door with the ice cream, pop corn, and my movie choice. Alex had the soda, twizzlers, and his movie.

The whole concept of movie night is for all of us to go to one of our houses and watch as many movies as we can until we all fall asleep. It’s actually a very competitive thing.

As soon as I got to the door I went in, Alex close behind, and made my way to the front room and set my things down. I could hear Maria and the girls in her room talking. Michael and Kyle weren’t here yet.

“’Ria! I come bearing food and Alex!” I yell in the vicinity of her bedroom. Then I sit down on the couch and look through the movies for tonight.

The thing is we all get to pick out a movie that we want to watch and bring it with us. I had brought Speed and Alex brought Hocus Pocus. Now there was already some movies on the coffee table. There was four, excluding mine and Alex’s. I guess Isabel decided to bring one extra to watch.

“Ok!” Maria yelled from her room. She would most likely be in there until eight or until everyone else got there. So I decided to take the food into the kitchen.

“Alex, come and help me.” I say getting up and grabbing the stuff and going into the kitchen. Alex followed. I motioned for him to put the twizzlers in a bowl. And I went to put the ice cream in the freezer.

“Alex, why do girls try to look so good?” I asked Alex. It was a rhetorical question and I didn’t expect an answer.

“Max, my friend, it’s just what girls do. They want guys to like them more so they try to make themselves prettier. I personally don’t think it matters. Beauty is on the inside.” Alex replied. I just stood there with my head in the freezer for a while.

“Alex, how do you manage to know that?” I asked taking my head out of the freezer and then shutting it.

“Oh, I don’t know. I guess I just know.” Alex said eating a twizzler.

“Alex is there something you need to tell me? Or maybe my sister?” I asked teasing him.

Just then there was a car pulling up outside. I knew it was Kyle’s because Michael didn’t have a car. I hurried and pop corn in the microwave then went to the front room where Alex already was.

“Hey, the party can now begin!” Michael yelled coming in the front door. I guess Kyle gave him a ride. They had more soda and ice cream.

Finally Maria came out of her bedroom. That was my cue to go and get the pop corn and cups. I heard the girls come out of the bedroom.

I got the pop corn and put it in a big bowl. Then I gathered up all the paper cups I could find.

“Ok guys let-” I started then stopped. Now I knew why there was one extra movie.

Part 14

Sean DeLuca. Enough said.

“Hey Evans.” He said. He prefers to call me by my last name since he isn’t smart enough to remember my first name. I mean how hard can it be? M-A-X!

“DeLuca” I say. Two can play at that game.

He just glares at me and sits down on the couch. I wasn’t about to tell him he sat down on what looked like an old gummy bear.

“Ok guys, what movie do you want to watch first?” Maria asked picking up the movies that were on the coffee table.

“Let’s watch Alex’s movie first so we can get it out of the way.” Isabel said patting him on the back. The look on his face was to die for.

I nod my head along with everyone else but Sean.

“I say we watch mine first so I can get out of here.” He says in a voice that really rubs me the wrong way.

“I say we do watch Shonna’s movie first, that way he can leave.” I said purposely messing up on his name.

“See, Mark knows what I mean.” Sean said. I ignored his comment. But I really wanted him to leave.

Everyone else did too because we ended up putting in Sean’s movie, which was The Hulk.

After watching twenty minutes of the movie I decided it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen.

I nudged Maria in her arm to get her attention. She was sitting by me on the floor. Everyone was on the floor except for Sean. I guess no one wanted to sit by him. Not that I don’t blame them.

“What do you want?” Maria asked after the third nudge to her side.

“Hey this movie has about an hour or more left so I’m going to go and get a burger.” I said as quiet as I could so no one else could hear me.

“Max, you know the rules, no leaving in the middle of a movie.” Maria said.

“Maria, there is also a rule saying no one else can come unless everyone else allows it. So don’t go and throw that in my face. Plus you owe me one for last night.” I say. I really need to get out of here.

“Fine, Max, but just because I owe you one.” Maria said then she went back to watching the movie. I got up quietly and made my way to the door, making sure that I had my keys. Then I left to go and get a burger at the Crashdown.

I walked into the restaurant and to my surprise it was empty except for a little old lady in a corner and another person sitting at another table. I made my way to a booth in a corner.

I already knew what it was that I wanted so all I had to do was wait for a waitress to come and take my order.

After a few minutes someone came and took my order. I gave it to them and they left to give the order to the cook.

I looked around the cafe. The old lady was gone, which didn’t surprise me. But the other person was still in here. I couldn’t tell who it was but they looked really familiar.

I studied the person for a while, which was easy. It was a girl. She had her hair pulled back in a tight bun. And she had her head down on the table in her arms.

Soon enough my food arrived so I stopped watching the girl. I smiled and thanked the waitress and proceeded to eat my food. I was only half way through when the beginning of the end of my ways happened.

So I was eating my fries and Mr. Parker comes out of the back room, the door swinging swiftly behind him. He ran up to the girl.

“Elizabeth Amber Parker! How could you just walk out on that conversation. I had to calm your mother down!” Mr. Parker yelled at the girl, which apparently was Liz.

I watched as Liz lifted her head and turned to face her father. Her eyes were red and puffy like she had been crying. I stopped eating and just watched the scene in front oh me.

“I can’t believe you Liz! We let you come back into our home and then you go and become town slut! You are ruining this family!” Mr. Parker continued. I was shocked. Liz was nothing like that.

“No, Jeff, you are ruining this family! No, wait, you already did.” Liz yelled and got up and went to the door.

“If you leave don’t bother coming back.” Mr. Parker screamed.

“Why would I even want to?” Liz yelled back and then ran out of the door.

I sat there while Mr. Parker went back to the backroom. Then I took out a twenty, put it on the table, and ran out to find Liz.

Part 15

It was cold outside. Colder than I could remember it being earlier. But I ran. I ran after the dark haired girl in front of me. I ran across the street, down an alley, and straight into the park. There she stopped and climbed on top of the jungle gym. I followed her and stood by the structure looking up at Liz.

She didn’t see me. But I could see here. She was still crying. I really needed to break the silence.

“Liz, are you okay?” I asked cautiously.

Her head shot up and she looked at me with her red puffy eyes. I instantly felt a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.

“Max, what are you doing here?” Liz asked as she wiped at her eyes with the backs of her hands.

“Liz, I was in the Crashdown. I saw what happened between you and your dad.” I explained climbing up onto the jungle gym and sitting down beside Liz.

She didn’t say anything. She just sat there with her face in her hands. She stayed like that for a while.

“Liz, do you want to talk about it?” I asked. I was wondering could have happened with her and her dad.

“I don’t know. I mean I know I know I’m not the best daughter in the world. If I was my parent would have loved me.” Liz said starting to cry again. I sighed and reached over to pull her in for a hug.

Liz pulled away and took a deep breath. Then she began to talk. Her voice was very shaky.

“Max, it’s a very hard thing to explain. I would have tell you the whole story, okay?” Liz said.

I nodded my head and waited for her to start.

I listened as Liz started. First her voice was shaky and weak, but then it started to get stronger.

“As you know I left here when I was twelve. I was my parents idea. Or at least it was dad’s, my mom just went along with it. My dad said that he didn’t want to have to ‘worry’ about me. But I knew it was just because he didn’t want to have to deal with me. So I went to the city to stay with my cousin Holly.”

Liz paused for a moment and took a deep breath. That’s when I noticed that she wasn’t wearing a jacket. So I took mine off and handed it to her. She smiled and took it. Then she continued.

“Anyways you know how I was pretty wasted I was last night. I came into my room to find my mom and dad on my bed waiting for me. Anyways my dad just laid it on me. He told me how I was the perfect little slut. I didn’t even do anything. The only reason I went out and got drunk was because of my dad. So then today he went into the same thing. So I laid it on them. About how they abandoned me. Then I ran out and into the cafe. I figured it would be a bit full, but no. And I think that you know the rest.” Liz finished, leaving me there in shock.

“Damn, Liz, I had no idea.” I said still in shock.

“Don’t worry about it Max. The only thing I care about at the moment is finding a place to stay.” Liz said. To my surprise she wasn’t crying anymore.

I thought for a moment. Then my watch alarm went off. I had set it for an hour and fifteen minutes. I had to be at Maria’s house in fifteen minutes.

“Liz, I have to be at Maria’s house. So why don’t you come with me? Everyone is there and I am sure that we could find a place for you to stay.” I said standing up.

“Yeah. That sounds like fun.” Liz said getting up too. Then we both started to walk back to my jeep which was still parked in front of the Crashdown.

It took us ten minutes to get to my jeep. Most of the time was spent in silence. Either that or we were trying to break the silence. But when we got to my jeep we drove to Maria’s house.

When we got to Maria’s house I was five minutes late. We got out and I ran up to the door with Liz walking slower behind me.

“Maria, I’m back!” I yelled opening the door. Then when no one answered I assumed they were watching a good movie and hadn’t heard me. I motioned for Liz, who was now behind me, to follow me in.

We walked into the front room where everyone was. I noticed that Sean was gone. He must have driven here since there was a car missing in the driveway.

“Maria, I’m back.” I said quietly this time. Maria turned around, as did Isabel, Tess, and Alex. I guess that Michael and Kyle fell asleep. Poor guys.

“Max...Liz.” Maria said, then after a second she continued. “Max, can I talk to you for a second?” I guess that would have to tell Maria about Liz needing to find a place to stay.

I followed Maria into the kitchen. She almost looked mad. I walked over to the counter and turned around to face Maria.

“Max, why is she here? I let you leave, which is a rule that you broke. Now you go and break another one.” Maria started babbling.

“Maria you let me go because you owed me a favor. And I had to bring her. She had no other place to go.” I said hoping that she would just leave it at that.

“Fine. But lets just go and watch another movie. I think we are about to watch Alex’s movie. That movie the Hulk was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. But that’s just my opinion. Michael and Kyle fell asleep already, and we did their make up. It was funny.” Maria said walking back into the front room. I followed her and sat down on the couch. Liz was sitting in the comfy chair.

Alex put in his movie and we all started to watch it. Yet we all knew it would probably put most of us to sleep.

Part 16



Two Hours Later

I don’t know why but that movie was actually a good movie. I mean it’s kind of silly but I didn’t fall asleep.

I looked around to see if anyone had fallen asleep. Maria-no. Isabel-no. Tess-yes. Alex-yes. I looked around then I remembered that Liz was there. I checked to see if she was asleep. She wasn’t, which was good.

I got up and took the movie out, which was done rewinding. I chuckled quietly to myself as Maria got up to get her makeup from the other side of the room.

Liz got up and walked over to me. Then I realized that we hadn’t told Liz about what happens to people when they fall asleep at these kind of movie nights.

When Liz got to my side I took her by the arm, and putting my finger to my lips to show her to be quiet, and led her to the kitchen. But not before motioning to Maria that I wanted to help decorate Alex.

“I never really explained the rules before, did I?” I asked when me and her had reached the kitchen.

“Rules? You have rules?” Liz asked. I guess now that I thought about it, it was a really silly thing to have so many rules.

“Yeah, I’ll give you a small rundown. The basics. If you fall asleep, you get a free makeover. If you don’t, you get to do the makeover.” I say explaining pretty much all that she needed to know.

“Oh. So that explains why those two guys were wearing makeup.” Liz said laughing, I thought that she looked pretty when she laughed.

“Come on, if we are lucky we can at least help do Alex’s makeup.” I say going back into the other room, Liz was close behind me.

Isabel and Maria were just finishing up on Tess’s makeup. Needless to say I think that Tess will be avoiding red lipstick and green eye shadow from here on out.

“Come on, let’s do Alex’s then we can watch my movie.” Maria said as she moved on to Alex’s sleeping form. Me and Liz came up too. Soon we were all ready to do his makeup.

By the time we were done, Alex’s face and hair was to die for. Alex is such a heavy sleeper that we could do his hair. He had red lipstick, and purple eyeshadow, and deep red blush all over his face. And he had his head covered in little ponytails. We all started laughing, but then I got up and sat down, ready for another movie.

Suddenly my stomach started to growl. I looked over at the clock and I saw that it was 1:14. The last time I had eaten was a long time earlier. I needed to eat something.

“I’m going to and make something to eat. Anyone else want anything?” I whispered getting up and turning to go to the kitchen.

I guess no one wanted anything to eat, so I just walked into the kitchen alone. When I got there I got out the bread, peanut butter, bananas, and strawberries. I spread the peanut butter on two pieces of bread, then I put bananas on one side and the strawberries on the other. Then I proceeded to eat it.

“You should probably clean that up.” I heard a voice behind me, so I turned to see who it was.

Part 17


“Miss Amy DeLuca. And just where have you been?” I asked as I turned around and saw Maria’s mom in the doorway.

“I had a hot date.” Was all she said as she walked in and stared at the mess I had made.

“Peanut butter, banana, and strawberries. Want some?” I asked holding out my half eaten sandwich.

“No thanks. Your taste buds are out of this world. Next thing I know you will be putting Tabasco sauce on your ice cream.” Amy said sarcastically. It was kind of funny since I had tried that a few years ago at home. And I had liked it.

“Maybe next week.” I said as I finished the last bit of my sandwich. Now I had to start on the cleaning part.

“So who was your hot date?” I asked as I put up the bread and the peanut butter.

“Jim Valenti.” Amy said simply as she sat down at the kitchen table with a cup of tea that she had just got out of the fridge.

“Kyle’s dad?” I asked vaguely remembering last night and how he had been at her house.

“Yeah. I mean he is in my age bracket. And Maria and Kyle get along. But then again I don’t know if I’m ready for a long term relationship. Do you think Maria would like it if I got married again. Or would that be too hard on her?” Amy started babbling in the famous DeLuca way.

“How many dates have you been on?” I asked. I had to get her to calm down.

“Two. But there are some people who feel that instant connection. Do you think that I felt that. I’m not so sure.” Amy said babbling again.

“Look, Amy, you are thinking way too far into this. First of all I don’t think you will be getting married after two dates. And second I think that we should keep you away from caffeine.” I say as I take away her cup of tea that I was sure was laced in sugar.

“Good idea.” Amy said, then she got up and walked to her room on the other side of the house. I laughed as I watched her go. No wonder Maria was always so worried, she got it from her mother.

I got up and walked back into the front room where Maria had already started the next movie. It was Speed. I sat down on the couch and started watching it with everyone.

Forty-five minutes later

I soon lost interest in the movie. I looked around to see who was asleep. Maria- no. Isabel- yes. Liz- almost.

I didn’t want Liz to fall asleep and fall victim to the make over ritual. So I picked up a piece of popcorn and threw it at her. Then I turned my head and pretended to be watching the movie.

I was fake watching the movie for five minutes when I was pelted with a popcorn kernel on my forehead. I looked to see who it was but when I looked to see who it was it looked like no one had done it.

I looked to Maria, she seemed to be completely into the movie. Very Maria like, but then again she could be faking it.

Liz she still looked half asleep. But then again she could be faking that.

Talk about being paranoid.

Just to be safe I picked up two pieces of popcorn and threw one at Maria and one at Liz.

“Hey! Just why did you do that?” Maria yelled from the floor. I guess it hadn’t been her.

“Oops. Slip of hand. Won’t happen again.” I say laughing at the look on her face.

“Your right it wont happen again.” Maria said as she picked up a handful of popcorn and threw it at me. I ducked and some of the pieces flew past me and hit Liz who was on the comfy chair again.

What happened next was an all out war. I threw popcorn at Maria and Liz. Maria threw it at me and always missed and hit mostly Liz. And Liz, she was basically throwing her popcorn everywhere.

Soon it all calmed down and we finished watching the movie. And even though I didn’t want to I could feel myself falling asleep.
