Part 11
The girls walked through the large glass doors of the mall, arms still linked together as people dodged to get out of their way.
“Well Liz, I’d say you’s needs a lotta help on some of your outfits. We should go in here.” Lonnie said, pointing to a store on the right side of the large building.
The girls walked into the store, splitting up in various directions to find the best clothes for Liz.
Liz looked at some of the items on the rack with a uneasy expression. She grabbed a piece of fabric off of the rack and stared at it. The black fabric was see through with holes in various places and a wide, open neck. She shook her head and looked around for any sign of the girls. She noticed Ava’s pink hair a couple racks ahead of her.
“I don’t know about some of these outfits Ava. Umm some of them are just ugly.” Liz said comming up behind the short blonde.
Ava turned with a smile, her arms already full of various styles of clothes. “Liz don’t you’s worry! You’s hangin wit da pros. We’d neva steer ya wrong.”
Ava held out the clothes for Liz to take, weighing Liz down from the weight of the items in her arms.
“Come on, we’s gonna meet Lonnie at da dressin rooms. She’s got ya shoes.” Ava said leading Liz to the back of the store. The three dressing rooms were four walls separated with what looked like shower curtains to Liz.
Lonnie stood at the side of one with five colorful boxes of various sizes. She smiled as she saw the clothes in Liz’s hands. “Glad ta see you’s found some stuff.” She nodded to Liz’s arms. “In ya go Liz. You’s gotta show us all da stuff you’s trys on.”
Liz nodded unsurely as she walked into the small dressing room. She carefully hung up the clothes on the variuous hooks on the walls and faced the mirror on the back wall. She looked at her image, her jeans and sweater had been what everyone was wearing back in Roswell. But this wasn’t Roswell. She shook her head and took off her sweater, looking through the clothes till she came upon a hot pink tube top.
She put on the shirt and frowned as it threatened to fall down off her chest. “Umm guys...I think I need a smaller size.”
“Let us see Liz.” She heard Ava say from outside the room.
Liz pulled the curtain aside and walked out, holding up the sagging tube top. Ava busted out laughing at the sight and put her head down, slowly turning away. Lonnie smiled at the small girl and shook her head, looking around to make sure no one saw what was going on.
“Hon, dat ain’t no tube top. Try it as a skirt.” Lonnie said, her laughing barely contained as she watched Liz’s eyes go wide.
“But but...it’s so small!” Liz said in shook and embarassment.
Ava laughed louder, causing Liz to blush and walk back into the dressing room. Lonnie reached over and smacked Ava on the arm, giving her a warning glare.
“Sorry Liz, dat was just too funny. We’s gonna get ya outta dat countryness girl, don’t you worry.”
Liz blushed in the dressing room as she slipped her jeans off and replaced them with her “tube top”.
“Try da skirt on wit that black halter I put in der.” Liz heard Ava say.
She pulled the curtain aside and looked unsurely at the two girls who stood silent. A smile slowly bloomed on Lonnie’s face as she started to laugh. Ava followed her lead as they smacked hands.
Liz put her hands to her face. “Don’t tell me the halter top is a pair of pants.”
Ava laughed harded and Lonnie chuckled. “Nah Liz. But I’d like ta be the first person ta say, ya look New York now babe.”
“Damn straight. Da girl looks hot!” Ava said joining the two at the door of the dressing room causing Liz to grin.

Liz dropped into the chair in the middle of the mall. Her bags dropping on the floor with a thud. Ava and Lonnie sat across from her, their bags joining Liz’s on the floor next to the table.
“Well Liz, you’s all stocked up for at least da rest of da year.” Lonnie said smiling.
Liz nodded her head and looked down at the bags at her feet. So many bags she noticed.
“Ava you’s wanna tell me what Joe College over der is lookin at you’s like dat?” Lonnie said with one eyebrow raised.
Liz smirked as Ava blushed and looked to the table. “Ahh I dunno Lonnie...could be lookin at another chick around here’s.”
Liz turned in her seat to look at the guy in question and noticed what Lonnie was talking about. She turned back with a smile.
“Isn’t that Kyle Valenti? The football jock?” Liz asked still smiling, causing Ava to lower her head to avoid the gaze of the two curious girls. Ava mumbled a short yeah, causing Liz and Lonnie to grin at one another.
“Ava is der somethin you’s wants ta share wit da class?” Lonnie said, trying to keep her laughter in.
“He’s just a guy dat I’ve been hangin out wit, no big. He’s a really good guy, lay off em.” Ava said defensively, her head coming up.
“We didn’t say anything bad Ava, we just want to know why he looks like he’s going to run over and devour you.” Liz said causing Lonnie to laugh and nod her head.
“I’s kinda like em,” Ava said causing the girls to smile wider, “but you’s can’t tell anyone! Zan’s da only one dat knows anythin, I’m gonna deal wit Rath on my own.”
“Aww Av’s you’s shoulda told me! We’s freakin sistas and you’s didn’t tell me? Come on.” Lonnie said. “But I’ll give you’s dis much, he’s kinda cute. Got’s himself a nice ass.”
Ava smacked Lonnie’s arm as Liz laughed at the sight. “You’s stay away from my man and keep ta your overgrown hairball at home.” Ava laughed at Lonnie’s shocked face, causing Lonnie to crack and laugh.
“Yeah I’s wish he’d change dat hair of his.” Lonnie said shaking her head.
Liz smirked at the two girls in front of her. They were becomming two of the best friends that she had ever had. She wondered if Alex had gotten his parents to agree to let him come to New York to visit. Having all of her friends in one room here would be great, she thought smiling.
“Well what are ya waitin for Ava! Go talk to ya man!” Lonnie said, pushing Ava out of her seat. Lonnie waved and smirked at Kyle as Ava walked, making Kyle go pale. “Hmm I wonder whys he’s afraid of me?” She said laughing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz hauled the bags up the old stairs, tetering on the edge of a step before she regained balance. She heard the door behind her close and turned slowly, so not to fall, to see her father walking up the stairs with a smile.
“Whatcha got there? Rob some stores on the way home from school?” Cal asked laughing at the girl in front of him.
“Ha ha, very funny. Help?” Liz said, pouting at her father.
Cal laughed and grabbed some bags from Liz’s arms. “So I’m guessing you went shopping?”
“Yeah Lonnie and Ava, the girls I was telling you about, they took me to the mall and picked out some outfits for me.” Liz said, following her dad to the door of the appartment.
They set the bags on the floor of the living room next to the couch. The phone rang causing Liz to run over to it excitedly.
“Hello?”
“Lizzie, the second time this year I was scared you were murdered. How about you call me once and awhile huh? I’m starting to feel like chopped liver.”
Liz smiled at the sound of her best friend’s voice.
“Alex, I missed you, and I’m sorry. I’ve been busy and I never know when to call you anymore because I’m not sure if you wll be home or not.” Liz asked trying to come up with an excuse.
“That was pathetic! You can do better than that.” Alex said laughing. “But I forgive you...because I love you. Now tell me all the hot New York news.”
Liz sat on the sofa, crossing her legs and smiling into the phone as Alex talked. Cal looked on with a smile before turning towards the kitchen.
“Well Lonnie and Ava took me to this mall today and we bought all sorts of clothes. Then we hung out in this food court type thing and we talked for a long time. Seems Ava is dating this football quarterback and Lonnie didn’t know. What’s going on in Roswell?”
“Liz...this is Roswell, the most exciting thing happend over 50 years ago and even that was fake. School starts, it ends, I come home and play some computer games, practice with the band, eat dinner, sleep, go back to school. Nothing ever happens. But I do have exciting news to tell you.” Alex said.
“Yeah! Whats that?” Liz said laughing.
“Well remember when I said I would ask my Mom and Dad if I could come visit you in New York? And I told you there was no way that they would ever let me go?”
Liz nodded, “Yeah.”
“Well.....they said no.”
“Alex!” Liz said, knowing full well he was joking.
“Okay, okay! Two weeks from now I expect you to be so New York that we don’t need a tour guide when I come visit you. AND I expect you to give me your couch and sleep on the floor because there is no way that I’m spending hotel money when I have youto stay with.” Alex laughed.
“That’s great! You can meet Zan and Lonnie and Ava! Hell even Rath! And yeah Alex?” Liz asked smiling.
“Yeah Lizzie?”
“I refuse to give up my couch. So we either share, or you’re sleepin on the floor.” She laughed at Alex’s shocked intake of breath, which slowly turned into laughing.
“Alex we’re going to have sooo much fun! I’m so excited you’re coming!”
Cal looked on with a smile on his face at his daughter. He was happy she was adjusting so well and glad she had friends like Alex and these new girls Lonnie and Ava to help her through.
