Part 11

The girls walked through the large glass doors of the mall, arms still linked together as people dodged to get out of their way.

“Well Liz, I’d say you’s needs a lotta help on some of your outfits. We should go in here.” Lonnie said, pointing to a store on the right side of the large building.

The girls walked into the store, splitting up in various directions to find the best clothes for Liz.

Liz looked at some of the items on the rack with a uneasy expression. She grabbed a piece of fabric off of the rack and stared at it. The black fabric was see through with holes in various places and a wide, open neck. She shook her head and looked around for any sign of the girls. She noticed Ava’s pink hair a couple racks ahead of her.

“I don’t know about some of these outfits Ava. Umm some of them are just ugly.” Liz said comming up behind the short blonde.

Ava turned with a smile, her arms already full of various styles of clothes. “Liz don’t you’s worry! You’s hangin wit da pros. We’d neva steer ya wrong.”

Ava held out the clothes for Liz to take, weighing Liz down from the weight of the items in her arms.

“Come on, we’s gonna meet Lonnie at da dressin rooms. She’s got ya shoes.” Ava said leading Liz to the back of the store. The three dressing rooms were four walls separated with what looked like shower curtains to Liz.

Lonnie stood at the side of one with five colorful boxes of various sizes. She smiled as she saw the clothes in Liz’s hands. “Glad ta see you’s found some stuff.” She nodded to Liz’s arms. “In ya go Liz. You’s gotta show us all da stuff you’s trys on.”

Liz nodded unsurely as she walked into the small dressing room. She carefully hung up the clothes on the variuous hooks on the walls and faced the mirror on the back wall. She looked at her image, her jeans and sweater had been what everyone was wearing back in Roswell. But this wasn’t Roswell. She shook her head and took off her sweater, looking through the clothes till she came upon a hot pink tube top.

She put on the shirt and frowned as it threatened to fall down off her chest. “Umm guys...I think I need a smaller size.”

“Let us see Liz.” She heard Ava say from outside the room.

Liz pulled the curtain aside and walked out, holding up the sagging tube top. Ava busted out laughing at the sight and put her head down, slowly turning away. Lonnie smiled at the small girl and shook her head, looking around to make sure no one saw what was going on.

“Hon, dat ain’t no tube top. Try it as a skirt.” Lonnie said, her laughing barely contained as she watched Liz’s eyes go wide.

“But but...it’s so small!” Liz said in shook and embarassment.

Ava laughed louder, causing Liz to blush and walk back into the dressing room. Lonnie reached over and smacked Ava on the arm, giving her a warning glare.

“Sorry Liz, dat was just too funny. We’s gonna get ya outta dat countryness girl, don’t you worry.”

Liz blushed in the dressing room as she slipped her jeans off and replaced them with her “tube top”.

“Try da skirt on wit that black halter I put in der.” Liz heard Ava say.

She pulled the curtain aside and looked unsurely at the two girls who stood silent. A smile slowly bloomed on Lonnie’s face as she started to laugh. Ava followed her lead as they smacked hands.

Liz put her hands to her face. “Don’t tell me the halter top is a pair of pants.”

Ava laughed harded and Lonnie chuckled. “Nah Liz. But I’d like ta be the first person ta say, ya look New York now babe.”

“Damn straight. Da girl looks hot!” Ava said joining the two at the door of the dressing room causing Liz to grin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz dropped into the chair in the middle of the mall. Her bags dropping on the floor with a thud. Ava and Lonnie sat across from her, their bags joining Liz’s on the floor next to the table.
“Well Liz, you’s all stocked up for at least da rest of da year.” Lonnie said smiling.
Liz nodded her head and looked down at the bags at her feet. So many bags she noticed.
“Ava you’s wanna tell me what Joe College over der is lookin at you’s like dat?” Lonnie said with one eyebrow raised.
Liz smirked as Ava blushed and looked to the table. “Ahh I dunno Lonnie...could be lookin at another chick around here’s.”
Liz turned in her seat to look at the guy in question and noticed what Lonnie was talking about. She turned back with a smile.
“Isn’t that Kyle Valenti? The football jock?” Liz asked still smiling, causing Ava to lower her head to avoid the gaze of the two curious girls. Ava mumbled a short yeah, causing Liz and Lonnie to grin at one another.
“Ava is der somethin you’s wants ta share wit da class?” Lonnie said, trying to keep her laughter in.
“He’s just a guy dat I’ve been hangin out wit, no big. He’s a really good guy, lay off em.” Ava said defensively, her head coming up.
“We didn’t say anything bad Ava, we just want to know why he looks like he’s going to run over and devour you.” Liz said causing Lonnie to laugh and nod her head.
“I’s kinda like em,” Ava said causing the girls to smile wider, “but you’s can’t tell anyone! Zan’s da only one dat knows anythin, I’m gonna deal wit Rath on my own.”
“Aww Av’s you’s shoulda told me! We’s freakin sistas and you’s didn’t tell me? Come on.” Lonnie said. “But I’ll give you’s dis much, he’s kinda cute. Got’s himself a nice ass.”
Ava smacked Lonnie’s arm as Liz laughed at the sight. “You’s stay away from my man and keep ta your overgrown hairball at home.” Ava laughed at Lonnie’s shocked face, causing Lonnie to crack and laugh.
“Yeah I’s wish he’d change dat hair of his.” Lonnie said shaking her head.
Liz smirked at the two girls in front of her. They were becomming two of the best friends that she had ever had. She wondered if Alex had gotten his parents to agree to let him come to New York to visit. Having all of her friends in one room here would be great, she thought smiling.
“Well what are ya waitin for Ava! Go talk to ya man!” Lonnie said, pushing Ava out of her seat. Lonnie waved and smirked at Kyle as Ava walked, making Kyle go pale. “Hmm I wonder whys he’s afraid of me?” She said laughing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Liz hauled the bags up the old stairs, tetering on the edge of a step before she regained balance. She heard the door behind her close and turned slowly, so not to fall, to see her father walking up the stairs with a smile.

“Whatcha got there? Rob some stores on the way home from school?” Cal asked laughing at the girl in front of him.

“Ha ha, very funny. Help?” Liz said, pouting at her father.

Cal laughed and grabbed some bags from Liz’s arms. “So I’m guessing you went shopping?”

“Yeah Lonnie and Ava, the girls I was telling you about, they took me to the mall and picked out some outfits for me.” Liz said, following her dad to the door of the appartment.

They set the bags on the floor of the living room next to the couch. The phone rang causing Liz to run over to it excitedly.

“Hello?”

“Lizzie, the second time this year I was scared you were murdered. How about you call me once and awhile huh? I’m starting to feel like chopped liver.”

Liz smiled at the sound of her best friend’s voice.

“Alex, I missed you, and I’m sorry. I’ve been busy and I never know when to call you anymore because I’m not sure if you wll be home or not.” Liz asked trying to come up with an excuse.

“That was pathetic! You can do better than that.” Alex said laughing. “But I forgive you...because I love you. Now tell me all the hot New York news.”

Liz sat on the sofa, crossing her legs and smiling into the phone as Alex talked. Cal looked on with a smile before turning towards the kitchen.

“Well Lonnie and Ava took me to this mall today and we bought all sorts of clothes. Then we hung out in this food court type thing and we talked for a long time. Seems Ava is dating this football quarterback and Lonnie didn’t know. What’s going on in Roswell?”

“Liz...this is Roswell, the most exciting thing happend over 50 years ago and even that was fake. School starts, it ends, I come home and play some computer games, practice with the band, eat dinner, sleep, go back to school. Nothing ever happens. But I do have exciting news to tell you.” Alex said.

“Yeah! Whats that?” Liz said laughing.

“Well remember when I said I would ask my Mom and Dad if I could come visit you in New York? And I told you there was no way that they would ever let me go?”

Liz nodded, “Yeah.”

“Well.....they said no.”

“Alex!” Liz said, knowing full well he was joking.

“Okay, okay! Two weeks from now I expect you to be so New York that we don’t need a tour guide when I come visit you. AND I expect you to give me your couch and sleep on the floor because there is no way that I’m spending hotel money when I have youto stay with.” Alex laughed.

“That’s great! You can meet Zan and Lonnie and Ava! Hell even Rath! And yeah Alex?” Liz asked smiling.

“Yeah Lizzie?”

“I refuse to give up my couch. So we either share, or you’re sleepin on the floor.” She laughed at Alex’s shocked intake of breath, which slowly turned into laughing.

“Alex we’re going to have sooo much fun! I’m so excited you’re coming!”

Cal looked on with a smile on his face at his daughter. He was happy she was adjusting so well and glad she had friends like Alex and these new girls Lonnie and Ava to help her through.

Part 12

Liz looked in the mirror uneasily, tugging at the hem of the short skirt that reached way past mid theigh. She frowned as she looked back at the clothes on her bed, wondering which ones she should wear today.

“Liz I-” Cal stopped as he walked into the room, his eyes growing wide at the sight of him. His young teenage daughter in a short skirt that would clearly show what was underneath if she moved and a barely there shirt. “You are NOT going to school like that.”

Liz laughed at his shocked expression and looked back at the mirror, clearly seeing his upset face staring back at her, his arms folded across his chest. “I agree”

Cal left Liz to change, shaking his head and rubbing his face on the way out of the room, muttering about girls and their choice in style now a days.

Liz went through her clothes looking for the safest outfit she could find, wishing Lonnie and Ava were there to help her out. She scratched her head as she stood in front of her closet. She could do this, she’d gotten dressed before, it’s not like the action had changed. She smiled at her new found confidence and pulled a pair of black cargo style pants from the back of the closet and a camisole type pink and black flowered shirt that hung in the center.

She reached down and grabbed a pair of black strappy heels, hoping the outfit would look like the ones she had seen other women wear while walking the streets of New York her first day.

After straightening her hair and putting on some natural looking make-up, she put her shoes on and stood in front of the mirror. Nice, she thought turning around, but missing something. She looked around her room until she saw them, the aviation sunglasses that Lonnie had made her buy after they tried them on as a joke. The pink frames stood out against the dark lenses as she put them on her face and walked back to the mirror. She smiled and nodded, turning to get her books off her bed before walking out the door.

“WAIT! Let me see your outfit.” Cal said walking out of his room in his usual black outfit.

Liz laughed and shook her head as she posed for her dad. He raised an eyebrow in thought before nodding. Liz turned around ready to leave before he stopped her again.

“Don’t forget your jacket it’ll be great so guys can't--I mean the weather will be cold today and you won’t want to be without your jacket.” Cal said quickly waving to her new black coat hanging off the back of the chair.

“Thanks! I’ll see ya after school!” Liz said as she put on her jacket and walked out the door, nervous about what everyone would think of her today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“DAMN suga you’s wants-ta go out sometime?”
Liz shook her head at the attention she was getting as she walked up the sidewalk to school. She gripped her books nervously, hoping Zan would like her new look as much as everyone seemed to.
“Hmmm I’d like ta hit dat right der.”
Liz blushed as she walked past a group of guys leaning on the fence outside school. She looked through the crowd to find Lonnie and Ava when she spotted them. Lonnie stood next to Rath in her usual stylish clothes while Ava leaned on the fence next to a standing Zan.
Liz walked slowly up to them, ignoring the further comments on her new look. She pulled all her confidence together as she got closer. She watched as Zan started to lean back on the fence before seeing her, causing him to miss the fence and fall flat on the ground. She watched as Rath laughed, doubling over and Lonnie looking back to see her walking towards them.
“I’s new it had ta be sompthin ta get Zan ta fall flat on his ass. Figured it was ya new look, which by da way looks kickin.” Lonnie said as Liz reached their circle.
Zan dusted himself off, keeping his eyes on Liz the whole time. As soon as he had seen her, he had totally forgotten about what he was doing, causing his little embarassing moment a feww minutes ago. But he didn’t care, that girl standing in front of him was his, and he was damn proud of it.
“Thanks Lonnie, though I have to give some credit to these amazing people who helped me to stop being so cornball and get stylin’.” Liz said, flipping her hair to emphasize her point, causing the two girls to laugh.
Rath and Zan stood completely still, both looking at the girl in front of them before they could talk. “Damn,” Zan said finding his voice.
“I’s gonna hafta agree wit my boy here.” Rath said shaking his head and causing Lonnie to smack him and Zan to glare for a second before turning back to Liz. Ava smiled at the situation before noticing a familar yellow jacket in front of the school, and an even familar boy wearing the jacket.
“Liz, you’s looks hot, but I’s gotta jet, new project and shit ya know?” Ava said. She didn’t even wait for an answer as she walked fast over to none other than Kyle Valenti.
Lonnie and Liz shook their heads and smiled at eachother as Zan watched her leave with a smile, happy she found happiness. Rath looked on in confusion, glancing at Zan and Lonnie, noticing how happy they looked.
“Okay what the fuck is going on?” Rath asked, putting his arms across his chest.
Lonnie looked nervously at Zan before covering her face with a smile and turning towards him. “Nothin ta worry your big head about sweetie, now let’s jet so Liz can get a lil sommin sommin from our boy Zanny here.” Lonnie winked at the two before grabbing a complaining Rath’s arm and leading him away.
Liz looked down at her neatly polished toes, avoiding Zan’s eye’s for as long as she could. All Zan could do was stare at the vision in front of him, who he wished would look up at him so he could see her beautiful face. When that seemed like it was not happening anytime soon, he went to stand in front of her, lifting her soft chin with his finger.
Liz looked straight into Zan’s dark eyes, her nervousness growing. She laughed out of her fear of rejection and covered it up. “Some outfit huh?”
Zan didn’t laugh at her attempt at a joke but continued to stare into her eyes. “You’s would look gorgeous in a fucking paper bag.”
Liz frowned, “You don’t like it?”
Zan reached for her, bringing her into the comfort of his body, “I’s never said you’s don’t look gorgeous now. You’s looks incredibly amazing I’s can hardly find da will ta breath”
Liz smiled and relaxed in Zan’s arms, which were now looped around her waist. He bent down slowly, brushing his lips against hers in a teasing motion. Liz closed her eyes and lost herself in all that was Zan; his hard body, his incredible smell, and his soft but firm lips that were currently working magic on her own. She moaned as his tongue slipped in her mouth, working past her teeth as he dueled with her own.
The kiss ended with a sign from Liz as she looked up into Zan’s smilling face. He slowly tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and gave her a peck on the cheek before releasing her, much to the disappointment to Liz.
“What do you’s say we’s gets ta class huh?” Zan said, his voice smooth as it reached Liz’s ears.
Liz could only nod as he led her towards the class, neither aware of the pair of piercing blue eyes that followed their every move.
Part 13
Liz walked into the gym with her uniform on, looking around for Lonnie and Ava. She spotted them sitting on the side in a heated discussion which looked like it would get even more heated if it went on. She plopped herself down next to two, breaking their conversation as they noticed her.
“Hey guys! What’s going on?” She asked, generally worried about the two.
Lonnie looked at Ava with a scowl, and replaced it with a smile for Liz. “Nothin, just talkin ‘bout Ava’s cousin who’s gonna be in our gym class now.” She turned her head slightly to the side. “Hopefully she’ll be gone soon.” She muttered, but Liz still caught it.
“Your cousin huh? Well that’s cool! Is she going here?” Liz asked Ava who was currently looking at Lonnie with a pleading and angry gaze.
“Ya, she’s uh...right ova there. She’s gonna be takin dis class wit us for howeva long she’s gonna be here.” Ava said in reply.
Liz looked around the room full of girls in uniform till she spotted the teacher talking to a short girl with curly bright blonde hair. She watched as the girl turned, and sucked in a surprised breath. She turned to Ava, only to find her looking at her already.
“She looks exactly like you!” Liz said surprised. She looked back at the girl who had the same features as Ava, missing the piercings and minus the hair color.
“Yeah...funny how dat works out.” Ava said, stopping before the girl sat next to them on the floor.
“Hi, I’m Tess. I don’t believe we’ve met?” The girl said, her gaze mocking slightly at Liz.
“I’m Liz. It’s great to meet you. You know you and Ava look almost exactly alike!” Liz said smiling at the girl, Lonnie looking on with a scowl on her face.
“Isn’t that something?” Tess said mockingly as the class stood to get ready for class.
Liz frowned as she stood up, getting ready to walk with Ava and Lonnie, who were beginning to walk away. Tess caught her arm as she went past her, stopping her from moving from that spot.
“I saw you walking with Zan earlier. We were going out before I left, a really serious relationship. I’m sure he’ll want to get back together with me when he see’s I’m back. Just so you know.” Tess said before walking away.
Liz frowned deeper, her mind starting to cloud with the information just passed to her. She looked to Lonnie who was walking back up to her.
“What she say ta you?” Lonnie asked, already knowing what happened, anger in her voice.
“Nothing.” Liz said, shaking her head and lowering it.
“If she did say anythin, which I’m sure she did from da way you’s actin, don’t listen ta dat bitch. She don’t know nothin ‘bout anythin, let alone us.” Lonnie said.
Liz smiled, pushing her doubts back in her mind, as she walked with Lonnie. Zan would have told her if anything that girl had said was true. She shook her head and chuckled, she had more faith in him than that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Liz walked with Lonnie into the lunch room, looking for Ava. They found her seated at the table with Cin and Franki, who as usual were hanging on her every word. They walked through the masses of hungry students to the seats, sitting beside Ava and joining the conversation.

Liz looked back to smile at Zan, but didn’t see him in his usual spot. She looked around the lunch room, not seeing the high spikes on his head nor the any traces of the outfit he was wearing today.

She looked at the doors of the room, frowning as she saw Zan talking animatedly with Tess, who was obviously flirting. Liz scowled at what she saw, and threw her baby carrot on the tray hard.

“Yo Liz, whats got your panties in a twist?” Ava asked smiling.

When Liz didn’t answer, Lonnie and Ava looked where they found her looking, their faces sporting a identical glare to Liz’s.

Lonnie got up and walked over to her brother, glare still in place as her stance showed anything but friendly gestures. Liz and Ava watched, both equally interested as they saw Lonnie give Tess a fake smile and turn to Zan, looping their arms and walking him through the students to their table, her mouth constantly moving.

Lonnie stopped talking as they got closer to their table, making Liz raise her eyebrows in question before she looked back at Tess, who stood with her hands across her chest and an angry look on her face.

Ava turned and smiled at Liz, before Lonnie sat down, pulling Zan to sit next to Liz. “Hey babe.” He said smiling at Liz and kissing her cheek.

Liz smiled, losing all anger and pushing her emotions back to the recesses of her mind.

“What did miss I-know-everthin say that kept you’s ova der for so long?” Ava said, munching on a fry while talking in a sarcastic tone.

Liz looked at Zan, interested in his answer. He turned and smiled at her before turning back to Ava.

“Nothin, just some stuff ‘bout government class. She had some questions ‘bout da duties of a king. I’s actually gettin tired o’her talkin, but Lonnie here saved me. Which I’s gonna give you’s mad props for.” Zan said nodding to Lonnie in which she nodded and smiled back.

“The duties of a king? That doesn’t make sense. Almost all monarchy’s are different, there are no set rules or anything like that.” Liz said confused.

Zan looke dat Lonnie and Ava before answering. “I dunno, I’s didn’t pass dat class anyways. She coulda been talkin ‘bout somepthin else, I’s wouldn’t known.” Zan said laughing, causing Ava and Lonnie to laugh, which in turn caused Cin and Franki to laugh.

Liz looked questioningly at Zan before shaking her head. She was worring too much over this little thing.

“Well I’s betta go keep an eye on Rath, da boy could do anythin when he’s not supervised. I’s talk ta ya guys later.” He said to Lonnie and Ava, before turning to Liz. “And I’s see you’s in Chem and afta school. I’m gonna take ya to a new buildin to practice in kay?”

Liz nodded and smiled as he left, turning back to her lunch and missing the worried glances that Lonnie and Ava threw at her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz walked to her locker, putting in her books as she got her stuff to go find Zan. Her last two classes had been boring, both teachers making them do busy work while they graded papers, even if it looked like they were playing games on their computers.
She got her jacket out of her locker and started looking for her Math book before Zan leaned on the locker next to hers.
“Hey toots.” He said smiling, looking her up and down for what seemed like the 50th time that day.
“Toots? Lunch it was babe? What changed?” Liz said mockingly as she smiled.
“Eh, I like variety.” He said shrugging his shoulders and smirking, causing Liz to raise her eyebrow in return. He sobered quickly and smiled. “Not in my women of course. I’s be a one woman man.”
Liz smiled and shut her locker, standing in front of Zan. “Good thing, too. Now lead the way, I’m in the mood to dance today.”
Zan smiled and looped his arm around her waist and leading her out of the school. They paused to wave to Lonnie, Ava and Rath before walking down the street to a bus stop. They sat on the bench, Zan stretching out his legs since they were the only ones there. Liz sat somewhat beside him, looking over now and then to give him casual glances.
“Okay what is it? You’s drivin me nuts lookin at me den lookin away.” Zan said laughing, setting his legs on the ground before scooting over to Liz.
Lz looked down at her hands, playing with her fingers before raising her head. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course.” Zan said, looking into her eyes.
Liz looked out across the street, her fingers in rapid motion against eachother as she watched the construction crew working on a new building. “Are you going to go out with Tess?”
She looked over at him after a few seconds of silence, afraid of what she’d see. She was surprised to find him looking at her like she had two more heads and all of them sporting a mustache.
“That was a joke right?” He said, continuing after her silence. “You’s my girl now Liz, trust me der ain’t nothin that’s gonna make me give you up...let alone dat girl.”
When he noticed Liz’s confused but happy look his eyes narrowed. “Did she say somethin to you’s? She did didn’t she?” He said, anger in his voice.
When Liz lowered her head he knew the answer. He got up and started to walk to the side of the bus stop. “That fuckin bitch.” He turned around and sat back down next to Liz, taking her hand in his. “Whateva she said, whateva she did, I want you to just forget it. Nothin she says is da truth, let alone somepthin I’d do. She’s a bitch Liz, don’t let her get to you. She’s just jealous dat I’m wit you.”
Liz let everything process in her mind before looking down at their intertwined hands. She looked up smiling. “Did you really mean that when you said I was your girl?”
Zan smirked, his thumb rubbing the back of her hand. “Yeah, I meant every word.”
Liz grinned, scooting closer to Zan as he put his arm around her shoulders as they waited for the bus.
Song is Da Rockwilder by Method Man & Redman, I’m pretty sure it’s the one in the movie. There are also quotes from the movie in this part.
Part 14
“So what exactly is this place again?” Liz asked as they trekked up the old stairs, sending echos throughout the building.
“Well in bout a month or so it’s gonna be nothin but a pile-a bricks. It used ta be an apartment buildin, till it was condemed.” Zan said as he stopped in front of a door.
“We are going to practice in a building that’s been condemed? Are you serious?” She asked, hands on her hips and worry marring her face.
Zan turned and smiled, “No big sweets.”
Liz watched skeptically as Zan jammed his shoulder into the closed door, breaking the lock holding it closed. She followed him into the room, looking around at the large open space before her. Boxes were scattered across the floor and a pile of old newspapers were stacked by a wall of tiny windows, each painted a different color.
Liz walked over to the windows as Zan set up and cleared a place to work. She scratched at the worn paint, watching as it flicked off the window in small chunks.
“You’s ready?”
Liz turned around and smiled, nodding as she walked over to Zan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

They had been practicing for about an hour now and both were tiring fast. Liz had stripped of her strappy shoes and camisole, now doning her baseball style gym shirt and her new timberland style boots Lonnie had picked out.

Zan stood next to her explaining the steps again as she let her head roll back and forth in stress.

“It’s a battle between you and me. I challenge you and you come back and challenge me right back.” He said while moving her shoulders in the rythym he wanted her to do.

They had practiced this at least ten times already, but Liz didn’t seem to be picking up the rythym as fast as she thought she could.

She waited till the music came on before following Zan’s movements.

Microphone checka, swingin sword lecture
closin down the sectar supreme neck protector
Bet I won em kid Mr. Metha warmin pot
about to blow his lid from the pressure, too hot for TV

going all not together it don't take much to please me
Still homes are never satisfy like the stones
we don't condome bitin in the sellin crossbones

“Feel da music Liz, don’t just listen. Feel the beat and the rythym, let it take ya ova.” Zan said leading her in the dance.

Their feet dueled to the beat of the music, their stomps echoing through the building. Liz listened to the rythym, letting her head bobb with the beat making Zan smile.

who blast with a liscence to kill rap presitence
TICAL!!...put your lights out

Zan moved behind her, his hand on her waist as he directed her movements.

Liz blushed and stiffened, embarassed and nervous about being this close to Zan. She tried to concentrate on her feet and her hips, but found herself feeling only the warmth from his hand.

“How am I doing?” She asked nervously.

“You’s doin great.” Zan chuckled.

“How’s my butt look? Is it okay?”

“It’s nice....real nice.” Zan laughed causing Liz to blush more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They were getting ready to leave after their two hour dance lesson. Zan was picking up their things while Liz changed back into her regular clothes in a corner.
“So why’s you’s stop dancin?” Zan asked.
Liz faltered in her movements, startled by the question. She looked towards him, facing his back.
“Why do you want to know?” She countered.
“It’s just you’s seems ta love it so much, why’s you’s stop?”
“I just didn’t like it anymore, it’s not my thing.” Liz answered lowering her head.
“Dat’s bull.” Zan chuckled, winding the radio chord around the player.
“What’s that? You don’t even fucking know me! How dare you say something like that!” Liz said, walking towards her bag, intent on leaving.
Zan noticed this before she got too close and stood in her way, grabbing her gently by the arms. He looked into her red eyes, noticing the tears starting to form, her teeth clenched in anger.
“I’m sorry. I’s didn’t think. You’s right, I don’t know ya, I had no right.” He apoligized.
Liz nodded her head, blinking away the tears as Zan pulled her into a hug. She didn’t know why she still started crying when she thought about ballet. She guessed it was the fact that ballet and dance reminded her of her mother, that’s what always made her cry.
Liz held onto Zan’s strong shoulders, trying to calm herself down before having to leave. She composed herself and took a deep breath, pulling away to smile at Zan.
“You’s ready ta go?” He asked, wiping her cheeks.
Liz nodded as she let go of his body, missing his warmth and strentgh. She helped him pick up their stuff before he grabbed her arm and led her down the stairs and onto the streets of New York.
“Did I tell you that my friend Alex is coming to live with me for a couple of days at the end of the week?” Liz asked excitedly.
“Nah, he cool?” Zan said grinning, happy someone could make her happy.
“I know you will love him. He’s one of the best people I know.”
Zan watched as Liz talked about Alex, glad she had someone who could help her through her secrets and demons. He hoped one day she would let him help with them and trust him as much as she did this Alex guy.
Find Yourself
Part 15 **R for some language**
Lonnie sat on the ragged couch, flipping through the pages of the latest Glamour magazine. She glanced at the colorful pages, popping her gum as she waited for Zan to get home from his “date” with Liz.
The door to the apartment flew open, a rush of black coming into the front door, closing it roughly behind. Lonnie threw down her magazine and jumped up, extending her hand as she readied for battle.
“Do you’s know dat Ava’s been hangin out slash datin dat freak Kyle Valenti?!” Rath screamed, his arms clenched at his side.
Lonnie lowered her hand and shook her head. She knew that she was going to have to face this sometime, she just wished Zan was here with her.
“Well?!” Rath said, looking at her. “You’s did. Let me guess, Zan knew it too didn’t he’s?”
Lonnie nodded, her head going down from keeping this from him.
“Humans. We’s goin for fuckin humans?!” Rath said, moving to sit on the couch.
“Rath, listen ta me. We’s have about no chance in hell ta actually go back ta da home planet and you’s knows it. Da otha set will go before we’s even gets ta see da ship. It’s time ta stop wit da destiny shit, cause it ain’t gonna fly no more.” Lonnie said, coming to stand in front of him.
Rath leaned forward, his eyes narrowed as though in thought. “So’s den I guess it’s da shits for us huh?”
Lonnie’s eyes went wide “, I’s NEVA said dat! I just-”
“Save it! You’s wouldn’t-a cared ta give me da info if you’s were so into da idea. You’s already got’s you’s a human Lonnie?”
Lonnie shook her head, moving to reach him as her eyes went blurry. She opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off by Rath.
“So I’s guess dats da plan huh? Humans for all? Dat’s peachy for me den.” Rath said as he got up and brushed past Lonnie, slamming the door on the way out.
Lonnie faced the door, her body stiff as the first tear fell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rath walked the streets of New York, his face clenched in anger as he shoved his hands further into his jeans. People stood out of the way as he walked, most intimidated by his looks as he hunched over in anger.

He walked towards what he thought was the park as his mind wandered back to everything Lonnia had said. He was so engrossed to what the voice in his head was saying that he failed to notice the girl walking towards him with her head down.

They collided and fell, curses echoing through the park as their bodied hit the ground.

Rath looked up, ready to verbally attack the person that laid next to him. “Why’s don’t you’s watch where you’s goin?!”

“Hey punk! You totally bumped into me okay?” The girl said in response, using her hands to prop herself up and off the ground.

Rath sat shocked at the girl. No one had ever talked back to him except Lonnie, Zan and occasionally Ava. He watched as she bent over for her books, and bent down to help her.

“Sorry...ummm I’s been havin a bad day.” Rath said, standing up and handing the girl the books. He scratched at his eyebrow as he looked her over once again.

“It’s okay, so have I. It wasn’t totally your fault, I should have watched where I was goin.” She answered with a smile.

“Umm I’m Rath.” He said nodding to her.

She raised an eyebrow and smirked. “I know. I go to your school...I’m in the same grade as you.”

Rath looked at her quizically and stared at her face, before breaking out in a grin. “Oh shit! You’s dat book worm! Ha! What happened ta you’s?”

Her face went red with anger as she situated her books. “Nothing happened ‘ta’ me jerk! I took off my glasses and bought some new clothes. Jeez, way to be an asshole.”

She turned to walk off, but Rath caught her arm before she did. “Look, sorry. I’s got a tendency ta put my foot in my mouth.”

She looked at his face with a raised eyebrow and an emotionless expression. “Fine. But first off, I’m not a bookworm...I’m Maria.”

Rath smiled and let go of her arm, moving his hands to his pockets. “So Maria, you’s wants ta go get sumpthin ta eat. It’s da least I’s can do for knockin ya down, and since we’s both havin a shitty day, maybe it’ll make it betta?”

Maria smiled and nodded, following him as he led the way to the resturant. “Now don’t be mad, but why would someone ever name their kid Rath?”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz stood outside of the bus station, her hands in her pockets. Her dad had just dropped her off after she got home from her practice with Zan. She looked towards the side, glad she was wearing her sunglasses, and noticed another bus had arrived. She walked inside the station, ignoring the looks people gave her as she made her way to the bus.
She stood a safe distance away as she watched the people depart the bus and find their families. Her eyebrows crinkled in confusion when the last person walked off and to the right. She looked around, looking for the head of brown hair she was sure she didn’t miss, then turned back to the empty bus.
She watched in confusion as a bag was tossed out of the door and onto the pavement. She walked closer as another was thrown, and another until she was only 4 feet away. She looked on as a tall teen walked down the steps of the bus, various bags hung around his small body.
She smiled and shook her head, folding her arms across her chest as the bus driver followed the boy, looking like he was arguing with him. The boy shook his head and bent to grab the other bags on the pavement. She walked closer, her strappy black sandles hitting the ground with little clicks.
She stood in front of the boy, her arms folded and her face sporting a smirk as she watched his eyes travel from the ground, up her body and to her face.
He grinned and stood, his bags forgotten as he shook his head. They both reached for eachother at the same time, both sheding a few tears as they were reunited for the first time in what seemed like years.
Part 16
Liz walked out of the bathroom and into the living room, pulling slightly on her red halter top so that it hung loosely around the edge of her dark jeans.
Alex sat on the couch in a blue, button-up plaid shirt with khakis as he waited for her. She watched him for a minute as he played with his fingers, and smiled as she thought how much the gang were going to like him. She sauntered up to stand in front of him causing him to look up as she wiped her face of emotion.
“THAT is what you are going to wear?” Liz said, looking him up and down with a grimace.
Alex smirked, “Too country for ya Parker? I’ll have you know that I’m one sexy beast. I don’t need tight and revealing clothes to get the ladies.”
Liz rolled her eyes and laughed. It was good to have him back. She nodded to the door as he got up, and she grabbed her new bag as she yelled goodbye to her dad. They walked in comfortable silence, just happy to be in the same vacinity. Alex put his arm around her and smirked as they walked.
They had stayed up and talked all night after they had returned from the bus station. Alex filled her in on all of the news from Roswell as Liz sat in a trance, listening in awe as he told the stories in such a manner that could only be described as Alex entusiasum. Liz told him all about Zan and the dancing lessons, and Lonnie and Ava—whom she knew he would like, and of course Rath being so cold towards her.
Liz smiled to herself as she thought how much fun she would have today. Alex had been signed up to “shadow”, as they called it at her school, so that he could see how the New York school worked and functioned. She rolled her eyes, ‘school is school’ she thought.
People watched with interest as Liz walked past with Alex by her side, both grinning widely.
Liz looked over the crowd to see her friends standing by the fence again. She grabbed Alex’s hand from around her shoulders to pull him towards them.
“Umm Lizzie? Is there a reason why everyone is looking at me like they are?” Alex finished, looking around as they stopped in front of the group.
“Yeah, dey prob wonderin what you’s doin wit your arm ‘round Zan’s chick.” Ava said laughing from her spot on the fence.
Alex turned to face the group and scanned the faces with a little fear in his eyes. He stopped at Liz who was now in the arms of a very rough looking man, her eyes looking at him with hope. He turned back and smiled at the group, waving slightly. “Alex Whitman, nice to meet you.”
Rath snorted as he looked the other way, causing Ava to elbow him in the ribs slightly. Lonnie looked over at Rath with a hurt expression before turning to Alex and flashing him a smile.
“Alex, this is Rath, Ava, Lonnie and this is Zan.” Liz said, nodding back at the man who held her securely in his arms.
Alex smiled and nodded at all of them, lingering on Lonnie before looking at Zan. ‘So this is the guy that has stolen my little Lizzie’s heart,’ he thought looking him over. He saw Zan straighten more and he smirked at him, knowing that he would take care of his best friend.
Zan smirked, “So how’s you’s likin New York so far Al?”
“It’s pretty cool. I haven’t had much time to look around but hopefully Liz will find time to give me a tour of the city.”
Rath looked at Alex and shook his head. He thought Liz was as cornball as they came, but aparently not. Though that Maria chick was a little cornball. His eyes opened at the thought. He didn’t even know what he had been doing with her, but he had to admit he had fun. The girl had spunk. He felt eyes on him and he looked around until he spotted her walking into the school with some random geeky chick he was sure he’d seen before.
Rath coughed slightly and stood up off the fence where he had been comfortably leaning the past few minutes. He nodded to the group that currently stared at him in confusion. “What? I’m jettin, can’t take no more o’ dis cornball shit.”
Lonnie watched as Rath walked away, her eyes drifting to Alex as Rath passed behind him. She looked at his smiling face and couldn’t help but smile herself.
“Well if Liz can’t show you’s round, I’s be happy ta show ya da greatest city in da world.” Lonnie smirked.
Alex’s face took on a look of shock as Ava, Zan and Liz sported grins. “Ah yeah, that would be great.”
“You’s knows Al, you’s should really head to da club wit us Friday. It’s gonna be a mad crazy time.” Ava said, earning a bright smile for Liz.
Liz smirked, “Oh just wait till you see Alex’s moves. My Lord that boy can dance!”
Alex puffed his chest and got in her face playfully. “Yo, I can kick it as well as you’s PARKER.”
The others laughed at Alex’s rough imitation of a New York accent as Liz looked at him in shock, which turned into a grin as the bell sounded from the school.
“Oh you’re on WHITMAN!”
Ava was the last to go as she watched Zan with his arm around Liz, and Alex who had hung back and was talking with Lonnie who sported a real smile. Ava smiled, looking around for her guy and she watched as he came to her side casually, walking with her up the stairs as they both snuck secret glances at one another. ‘Yep,’ she thought, ‘everythin seems ta be cool.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The last bell of the day rang out and Liz grabbed her bag from the floor and followed Alex out of the classroom.

“So how did you like the day?” Liz asked as she spun the lock on the locker.

“Eh, it was cool. School is school, though I do have to say some of the kids here are really rough.” Alex replied as he watched a boy walk by with chains hanging from his body in different places, his black hair spiked so it matched Zan’s.

“Yeah,” Liz laughed, “you get used to it.”

She closed her locker and grabbed his arm, leading him out of the school and onto the streets. They took the long way home through a park that separated the start of the city and her neighborhood.

“So do you miss Roswell?” Alex asked casually as they walked.

Liz looked up to notice his head down shyly. “Yeah, I miss certain things. I miss the Crashdown and the burgers, and I miss the pep rallies at the school when we play East. Mostly I miss you. I mean, how often do you find a friendship like ours huh?”

Alex smiled and hugged her to him. “I miss you too. Roswell isn’t the same without my best friend.”

Liz smiled at him and continued to walk, holding the hand that was hung over her shoulder.

“I’m thinking about applying to NYU, so you know, we could be closer together.” Alex said, causing Liz to look up with a grin.

“Really?!” She watched him nod. “That’s going to be great! Alex, we could be roomates and everything! We’re going to have so much fun!”

Alex grinned with her as they continued their walk. He glanced around at the people walking and the children playing some sort of tag game. He noticed a figure slumped over a bench , their short, blond hair barely visible over the back of the bench. He stopped to look closer and found that it was indeed who he thought it was.

Liz looked up in question and followed his eyes to see Lonnie slumped on a park bench, obviously in deep thought. She looked back at the concern that had etched itself on Alex’s face and she nudged him towards the bench causing him to look up at her in confusion.

“Go talk to her. She needs someone to talk to right now. After your done you can always have her walk you home.” She smiled.

Alex smiled back and nodded, slipping his hands into his pockets before walking over to the bench.

Liz sighed, wondering what she would do now that her entertainment for the night was gone. She looked towards the street ahead and noticed it was the one that Zan and the group lived on. She grinned and pulled her bag up on her shoulder, starting the walk down the street to the appartment.

She rang the bell on the door and was greeted with Ava’s surprised voice. They went into the girls room, Ava lounging on the bed with Liz looking at the clothes hanging on the back of the door.

“Wow, that outfit is really great Ava.” She said fingering the red fabric.

“Thanks, I’s made it for Lon a couple weeks ago. She didn’t like wha’ she bought at da store, so I’s revamped it.” Ava said smiling.

They talked for a good hour about clothes and about what they were planning on wearing to the club on Friday.

“We’s can’t have Al dressed in dat country shit when we’s go ta da club Liz. We’s gotta work on him.” Ava said smirking at the memory of what Alex was wearing today.

“Yeah, I agree. Plus it will be fun to dress him up.” Liz grinned wickedly at the thought of taking Alex shopping with the girls.

They heard the door open and close, and heard Lonnie yell “, Mail.”

Ava continued to talk to Liz, “Not like he was bad lookin or anythin Liz, but I’s guessin he could look a lil’ betta, you’s know?”

Liz nodded in agreement before looking at Ava in confusion at the commotion she heard coming from the kitchen area. Ava shook her head as they heard what they thought was Zan yell loudly.

Ava and Liz jumped up, both running out the door. “YO! What’s goin down out here’s?!”

Liz stopped in the doorway and watched as Ava walked towards Lonnie and Zan who were all smiles. They both whooped and laughed as they twirled in the kitchen, passing Ava a piece of paper when they noticed her. Liz smiled at the softer side of Zan that was currently shinning through.

Ava’s face went from shock to a grin as she jumped up and into the family hug that consisted of three very punk teenagers.

“NYU! YOU’S GOT INTO NYU?!? FULL SCHOLARSHIP ZAN!!!”

Liz grinned as Zan dislodged himself from the two hugging girls who were currently jumping through the kitchen. He walked towards her with a sideways smirk on his face.

“Congrats, NYU full scholarship huh? That’s an achievement.” Liz said before she was lifted into his embrace and swung around. She briefly heard the girls in the backround laughing as Zan’s mouth got close to her ear.

“Let’s go celebrate babe. Tomorrow night?”

Liz could only nod as she felt his hot breath on her ear.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zan led Liz into the subway the next night, her gloved hand encased in his large one. Liz sat in the hard seat as Zan joined her, crossing her legs at her knees and grabbing Zan’s hand.
“So you’re not going to tell me where we are going?” Liz asked Zan who was looking around.
“Nah, I’s wants it ta be a surprise.” Zan smirked and pecked her on the cheek before playing with his eyebrow peircing.
Liz shook her head and smiled. She glanced around the train at the various people and noticed an older woman glaring at her from a few rows ahead.
“I think we have an audience,” Liz laughed, nodding towards the woman who was now shaking her head at the two’s joined hands. “Follow my lead.”
Zan glanced at the woman before feeling Liz’s hands on the back of his hair, her now bare fingers running through the hair at the nape of his neck. He turned towards her with a wicked grin before her lips met his own in a passionate kiss. His eyes closed at the sensation and he heard her give off a quiet moan. His tongue slipped passed her lips and dueled with her own as her hands pushed his head closer to hers. His eyes reluctantly opened to glance back at the woman who was currently mumbling something about punk kids as she got up and walked to the back of the train.
Liz playfully waved and smirked under the presure of Zan’s lips before breaking away and looking into his amber eyes.
“Feel free ta use me ta make points more often ‘kay?” he said playfully, leaning back in to nip at her bottom lip.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Zan held Liz’s hand as they walked towards the theatre. Liz smiled at their hands before looking up at where they were.

She stopped suddenly, causing Zan to look back at her in confusion. She looked at him with a mix of fear and saddness in her eyes.

“Why are we here?” She asked quietly.

“I’s thought it would be a good idea. You’s love ballet and I’s thought it would make ya happy. Don’t you’s like it?” Zan asked, flashing her a look of confusion.

“I…I don’t like ballet anymore. I’m sorry Zan, I just don’t know if I can go in there.”

He watched as a tear silently slide down her cheek. He walked to her, brushing his thumbs across her cheeks to ride them of the tears. He gave her a sad smile before kissing her on the forehead.

“Hey, no worries. We’s don’t hafta go in der unless you’s really want ta. But I’s just thought how much fun I’s would have wit you’s. You’s know ‘cause you’s knows everythin ‘bout ballet. Thought you’s could teach me sumpthin’ ‘bout it.” He told her truthfully.

Liz looked away from his eyes, bitting her lip softly as she thought about it. He had paid for the tickets, and she was sure that they would have been expensive. He at least deserved her going with him. She looked back at him and gave him a weary smile and an uncertain nod, causing him to smile in return. He lightly kissed her lips before taking her hand in his and leading her into the theatre.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zan kept his gaze on Liz during the ballet, occasionally glancing at the stage to see the thin ballerina glide across the stage. He watched as tears slide down her smooth cheeks through parts, and her sad smile as she watched the dancers on the dimly lit stage. He smiled to himself as he watched her eyes light up before turning back to watch the dancers.
Liz watched slightly the performance with a slight saddness. She thought back to her decision to give ballet up, asking herself if it was the right choice to make. ‘Yes,’ she thought, ‘it was only right to give it up.’ She watched the as the two bodies on stage moved in tune with eachother’s hearts, the music just a guide as they glided across the stage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After the ballet was over, Zan took Liz’s arm and led her towards the subway. He looked over and noticed the saddnes on her face.

“I’s thought you’d like it.” he said.

Liz lifted her head to notice the uncertain look on his face. “I did”

“Den why do you’s looks like you’s didn’t? I’s thought you’s liked ballet?”

“I…I did at one time, but it’s just,” she sighed, “it’s just not a part of my life anymore.”

“Well why’s not? You’s just decided ta waste your talent?” Zan countered with an angry flare.

“How do you know I have talent? From one ballet move and two dance lessons? You don’t know anything about me!” Liz said raising her voice.

Zan shrugged his shoulders, “Why don’t you’s tell me den?”

Liz was silent for a minute, before answering. “I didn’t want to be selfish anymore.”

Zan watched as Liz bent her head to hide the hurt in her eyes, but still caught the tear that escaped her eyes. He stood in front of her and placed his finger under her chin, lifting it and looking into her eyes.

“What do you’s mean selfish?” He asked quietly, not wanting to upset her anymore.

“People get hurt when I dance. She…” Liz paused, swallowing the lump in her throat. “She died because of me. Because of my selfish dream to be a ballerina.”

“Liz, your mom didn’t die ‘cause of ballet, or you’s love of dancin.”

“No, she was on her way to see me.” Liz sobbed, the memories coming to her mind of the day her mother died. “I HAD to be the prima ballerina! I had to get into Juilliard! It didn’t matter how much money it cost or how much time it took from her! I was selfish! And she died because of it!”

“Liz, ya mom loved ya, dat’s why she did what she did. Because you’s meant da world ta her. She wanted da best for you. It wasn’t your fault dat she died.” Zan said, pulling her into his arms.

She clung to him for a minute, her tears staining his button-up shirt a darker shade of black. “No, I told her to rush. I told her she had to be there. And while she was dying, I was dancing. While she was lying in the hospital room in pain, I was mad at her for not being there. I’m a horrible person.”

Zan grimaced as he heard her words. “You’s not horrible. Da fact dat you’s wanted ta give it up shows dat you’s care more den you’s thinks. I’s thinks dat your mom woulda wanted ya ta dance. She woulda wanted you’s ta have da best.”

Liz shook her head. “It’s too late now. It’s too late.”

Zan pulled back, and placed his hands on her shoulders. “What do you’s wants Liz?” He paused as she looked up at him, her eyes red from crying. “Do you’s wants Juilliard?”

Liz nodded silently.

“Den it’s all you’s.”

~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz crept into her unfinised room, walking slowly to the closet in the corner. She had just gotten home from her date with Zan and had come in to find Alex asleep on the couch. She had thought about her talk with Zan all the way home, and it pained her to think about the memories she would relive through her dancing.
She lifted a box from the top shelf and brought it down to her chest carefully. She walked over to her tarp-covered bed and sat down, setting the box in her lap. She didn’t notice Alex standing in the doorway as she opened the lid and took out a worn pair of faded pink ballet slippers.
Liz slowly unraveled the ribbon that held the two shoes together, and let her finger run down the side of the shoe. She felt the bed shift beside her and looked over to see Alex looking at her in concern. She barely felt the tears slip down her cheeks as she rested her head on his shoulder and his arms came up to support her as best as he could.
