Part 9
November 19th, I’m Liz Parker and lately I have been living the normal teenager’s life, if I can use the term normal anymore. Things have settled down for everyone ever since we came back from Copper Summit three weeks ago.
We all started to hang out more, I guess you could say we were really starting to feel like a family. Everyone was really getting along, I guess without all the alien chaos that we have gone through, one after another.
I think out of all the people that were getting along so well that surprised me was Tess and I. Tess and I were becoming friends. We were hanging out more, going shopping with Isabel and Maria and having the normal human girl-talk conversations. You can say that her human side was starting to surface. I felt bad for her when I met her. She didn’t have anyone except Nasedo but he didn’t have a human side at all. She told me that I was like the sister she never had. I can understand where she is coming from, I was an only child too but I didn’t have anyone until I met Maria and Alex. I don’t know what I would do without them. Tress was grateful that she had someone to turn to. And of course, we talked about her and Kyle. I couldn’t be happier for them. I am happy that Tess found someone and I am glad that it’s Kyle. I have never seen Kyle that happy when he is around Tess. You can say that she has changed him. Of course, she does nag him every once in a while for his newfound interest in Buddhism.
Maria and Michael started to date again and I guess you can say that Michael has changed as well. He is being a great boyfriend to Maria just like she wanted. I guess he is finally taking Max’s advice on being romantic. From what Maria told me, he has a candlelight dinner every Saturday night at this apartment for them and he sends her a new gift each week. If Max didn’t give him advice, I would have been in line to give it to him that’s for sure. I have never seen Michael smile so much either. Maria told me that after Courtney left Roswell he realized that he didn’t want to be that other person in his past life, that all he needed was Maria, that she was the only one for him. Here and now.
For Isabel, she realized the same thing. I think of all of us, she has changed the most. I still remember our first real conversation. When we had that heat wave last December and she told me how scary it is to let someone in. But when we started talking about Alex, I swear I could see her glowing. Alex didn’t know it but Maria and I kind of knew about his secret crush on Isabel. But when Alex found out about Max, Michael and Isabel, she was the first one that he turned to. She knew she could open up to him, she felt something about him and I told her to follow that feeling. She is constantly glowing and I know that Alex has never been happier than he is when he is with her.
As for Max and me, I don’t think it’s possible to be happier than we are right now. You can say that we are one of those cheesy romantic couples that you see on television or in the movies. It’s like we are Romeo and Juliet. We like to spend as much time together as we can. When we went back to school, Max was so sweet. He set up a surprise picnic lunch for us. He is constantly leaving notes and a white rose in my locker everyday. Every Friday, we have a movie night at my house and on Saturdays, he surprises me each time when we go out to dinner. Everyday is a new surprise when I am with Max. And I am loving every minute of it.
I wonder what surprise he will come up with next. Then again, you should always expect the unexpected. But that’s what I love about Max, every day is a new discovery.
The bell rang for the last period of the day. It was Wednesday, so everyone was excited for the long Thanksgiving weekend. Liz came out of her English class and approached her locker. She opened it and found a white rose and a smile came to her face. There was a note attached. It said:
My dearest Liz,
Another white rose, another smile on that angelic face that I cherish so much.
I love you my angel.
Love,
Max
A blush crept her cheeks. He does this everyday. He always knew how to make her smile. Another gift that melted her heart and her soul.
Max saw her standing by her locker reading the note he left her. How much he loved that woman. He walked towards his angel and put his arms around her waist and kissed her on the cheek.
“Hey beautiful.” Max whispered in her ear.
She turned around and wrapped her arms around the neck of the man that warmed her heart each and every moment of every day.
“Hey handsome.” She pulled his face down to hers for a soft kiss.
“You like it?”
“I love it! I love you.” She kissed him again, just couldn’t resist not being this close to him and not touching him.
“I love you too. You ready to go?”
“Yea, I just have to grab my history book.”
She grabbed her books for the holiday weekend and Max, being the perfect gentleman, offered to hold her books for her.
“Here, let me get that.”
“Thanks Max.” She said with a smile.
“Let me carry that for you too.” Max noticed she had a fill load in her book bag. She would only be holding the white rose, the note he gave her and his hand as they walked their way to the jeep.
Liz went back to work at the Crashdown last week since she no longer had the job at the Congresswoman’s office due to certain circumstances. When they got back to Roswell, Max slept by her side every night for two weeks, worried she would have another nightmare about what happened to her in Copper Summit. She only had one nightmare but after that first night, the nightmares went away. Max remained by her side as he always did for as long as she needed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day was Thanksgiving. Everyone had their traditional dinners with their families but this year would be different. For Tess, it would be the start of many more joyous holidays to come, now that the Valenti's have welcomed her into their lives. Michael was invited to spend it with the DeLucas since Maria and he started dating. Her mother felt bad that Michael didn’t have any family and she was so happy for Maria, to see her being loved. This year, Max wanted this holiday to be the first of many holidays that he would spend with Liz. He wanted it to be special, just like her. Everything had to be perfect.
She entered her room exhausted. The holidays were always like this, especially Thanksgiving. It started with getting up at the crack of dawn for the Thanksgiving breakfast at the Crashdown, followed by helping her mom making dinner and cleaning up. There was one thing missing thought. She only wished that one other person could have been here with her today. He called to wish both her and her family a happy Thanksgiving but she wished he could have spent it for her.
Just then, her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on her window. These were moments that she lived for, moments where he would arrive unexpected for the little reasons. She approached the window and opened it.
“Hey” She softly said with a smile on her face.
“Hey. Happy Thanksgiving.” He said also with a smile. He always did love her smile.
“Same to you. What are you doing here?” She said, curious by his surprise visit.
“Come outside.” He said and he laid out his hand, hoping she would take it and come outside for her special surprise.
She took his hand and followed him outside to her balcony and she was surprised by what she saw. Candles lit everywhere, a bouquet of white roses in the middle of a blanket. On that blanket was a picnic, filled with various fruits, mostly strawberries, apple pie, her favorite, and sparkling apple cider. Max approached the stereo and put on some music. Everything started playing in the background.
“Max, this is beautiful, but what is this all about?”
“Sit down.” He led her to the picnic that stood before them.
“Liz, its Thanksgiving, and I wanted to spend it with the one person that I am forever thankful for.”
“Oh Max, I feel the same way.”
“Here, this is for you.” Max held out a black box for Liz, he saw her eyes lit up with excitement of what it was.
She opened it and he heard the shock in her voice.
“Max, it’s beautiful.” Liz found a beautiful silver ring in the box.
“Just like you. Read the inscription”
I am yours and you are mine.
“Max, I love it. Thank you.” Liz said as she went up and hugged him tightly.
“I’m glad. I love you so much Liz.”
Max put the ring on Liz’s finger as a promise they would always be together, always be there for each other. Of course, they didn’t need a ring to know that, Max saw it at the department store and he had to get it for her. After a few kisses, they ate the wonderful dessert that Max laid out for them and the night ended with them, in Liz’s lounge chair, watching the stars.
“Max, do you think you’ll ever go there? Home I mean” Liz wondered, that if they found a way home, would he ever leave? Looking in his eyes, she waited for his answer
“No, my home is here, on Earth, with you. I could never leave you Liz, I love you.” He said softly as he caressed her cheek.
“And I love you.” She said back as his face lowered in for a kiss of promise, promise of a new future, together.
