A/N: HI all I'm back.. a year older but here i am. Yes that's right it was my birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday to me. Well i re-read what i have written of this story so far and i am really satisifed i think this one might be my best yet. Hope you all agree. This chapter will see Liz and Michael finally talk and also involve Liz confronting Max about something. Thanks for the wonderful feedback too.
frenchkiss70 - you make some good points but i guess the thing with Max is that it's never really been a marriage. He does everything he can, including working long hours that he doesnt need to so that he doesnt have to be at home. Also, a little hint to get your mind working, Parker may not just think that they're the realy thing he might know more that anyone ever suspects.
FSUMSW94 - There is a little way to go yet but i wil try to fit everything in!!. I promise though that Max will not do anything to hurt and Liz and Parker intentionally. Also Liz might surprise everyone yet.
tequathisy - 21 will help you understnad definetly. Lets just say that whilst most of this is Maria's fault some of it is Max's as well. You will understand more about Liz and the accident in a few parts time, let me just say that everything isnt what it seems.
Smac- I agree with you that Max had the right to move on, and truthfully if something happened to me and my fiancee got together with me best friend i would be glad as long as it was for the right reasons. Because he fell in love with her, but in this case Max's idea of the right reasons arent. I think that Liz will surprise everyone and i think that the fact that's she seeing their marriage herself without knowing who she is to Max will help.

extingman - They havent been married for long and they are both very career orientated. Their shift work keeps them away from each other. I guess as some of the other fb has said Max and Liz couldnt help the pull to be together it was always there and it seems soemthings have never changed. Your right Michael is still very angry and i havent decided yet if there is room in this story for a reunion between the two. We all know that Michael isnt very forgiving. Tess has been in Roswell for 2 years, she arrived just as Michael left. The answer to the sex question is part of any important plot in future chapters so i cant tell you but as for everyone ignoring Maria it was Iz and Alex's choice.

‘Hello’ Michael answered the phone gruffly.
‘Hey’ Liz said into the phone.
‘Liz?’ Michael asked surprised.
‘Yeah it’s me I think we should talk’ Liz told him.
It had been 3 days since the confrontation at Tess and Kyle’s place and aside from Alex and Isabel’s wedding Liz hadn’t seen him. It had been a nice night but a little overwhelming for Liz since there had been so many people there that new her but didn’t understand her situation or that she had no idea who they were. Max had been a huge help though taking her and Parker under his wing and explaining to as many people he could who Parker was and the situation, unfortunately though it had sent the gossips in Roswell’s’ tongues wagging and caused a whole other set of problems for Max.
Diane and Philip had been delighted to meet Parker and too see her again, Diane had cried and then begged her to stay in Roswell. Parker loved meeting them and it helped that they knew about his heritage so he was able to talk freely with them but it once again reminded Liz that Roswell was home regardless of what she remembered and that Parker needed to be surrounded by people that understood and loved him, especially his father.
‘Yeah sure’ he replied. ‘Crashdown?’ he suggested.
‘Yeah sounds good how about in half of an hour?’
‘Ok see you then Liz’ he replied before hanging up the phone.
Liz was already at her parent’s apartment up stairs so she didn’t need to go far. It turned out that Max had a week’s vacation planned so him and Parker were spending the day together but Liz declined to go with them on the tour of Roswell. They had stayed at Max’s again the night of the wedding mainly because Liz didn’t want to unsettle Parker who was already asleep when Max brought them all home but Liz needed to leave the house today after the frosty reception she had been getting from Maria. She hadn’t told Max or broke the news to Parker yet but she had already moved their stuff over to the apartment and asked her parents could they stay.
Maria and Max had had a fight the night before, she didn’t think they realised she had heard and it had been accidental but she was concerned about the damage she was doing to Max’s life. Nothing had happened since the first night at the house except what Liz could only describe as harmless flirting but it seemed that the damage had already been done.
The fight was mainly about Max canceling their plans to go away that week. Maria clamed they needed it and that it was important to spend some time together after all the changes that had occurred in his life recently but Max refused to leave her and Parker after they had only just returned. The fight had turned ugly when Maria brought up the fact Max had refused to sleep in their bed since her return, and then the subject of when they were going to have children. Max refused to talk to her after that claiming that green was a colour that didn’t suit her very well and he once again slept on the couch something that Parker thought necessary to ask him about over breakfast which Maria had attended.
‘Hi’ Michael smiled as he slipped into the booth opposite her.
‘Hi’
‘So what’s up? I didn’t think you’d ever want to speak to me again’ he said.
‘Yeah well that thought passed my mind’ she smiled ‘but then I realised you were probably right’
‘Excuse me?’
‘Before I explain I need to ask you some things and I need for you to promise to answer me truthful, not to hold anything back’
‘Ok’ he replied.
‘Why did you leave Roswell?’
‘What does that have to do with you?’ he asked confused
‘It doesn’t but I need to know everything’ she replied.
‘Maria and I had been dating as long as you and Max and then for 6 years after you were gone. It was hard when you left, she was upset all the time but it brought us closer together, or so I thought. About 3 years ago though she started pulling away, did a complete 180 on me. She used to be on my back to be more like Max, more romantic and about commitment and when I finally offered it to her she didn’t want it anymore. She was busy getting her nursing certificate most of the time why I worked and painted and she spent a lot of time with Alex and Max. I probably should have suspected something but her and Max had always been close because of you. I thought she was just being a friend to him when he needed one. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t mourn you. ’ He explained.
‘Go on’ she urged.
‘Anyway 2 years ago we were laying in bed one night and she tells me she’s moving out that she wants to break up, just like that no explanation nothing. It was like thanks for the last 8 years but no thanks. I got angry and yelled at her and then she admits she loves me but she’s in love with someone else’
‘Max’ Liz answers.
‘Yeah the thing was though is Max had no idea. I laughed at her told her she was kidding herself and that he would never love her like he loved you’
‘What happened?’ she asked confused, how were they married then.
‘You’ll have to ask him that question’ he shrugged.
‘I kicked her out and the next morning I took off. Found you couple of months later and when I came back to deliver the news to my best friend that I had found the love of his life, and his son I found out that they were together’
‘And you didn’t tell me because you didn’t want me to get hurt’ she summed up.
‘Yeah and I was angry Liz, I don’t understand how he could do that to me he knew how I felt about her and he knew what it felt like to loose the person you love’ he replied sadly. Michael never let his emotions show very often but it appeared that he couldn’t hide them when it came to Maria.
‘And you know what the worst part is?’ he asks her then.
‘No’
‘I was right. He doesn’t love her like he loves you, truthfully I don’t think he loves her at all but she refuses to see it’ he sighed.
Liz nodded her head. ‘No I think your wrong there Max doesn’t seem like the type of guy that would marry someone he didn’t love’
‘What are you going to do now?’ he asked her ‘because you know that he can probably heal you’
Liz looked up at him surprised then she hadn’t thought of that and obviously Max hadn’t either. Then again maybe he didn’t want her to remember.
‘I’m scared’ she whispered then.
‘Of?’ Michael asked he thought he already had a pretty good idea though.
‘I already want something that I cant have I’m scared to know what I had and know I cant have it back. I’m afraid to feel how much I know I’m going to love him’ she cried.
Michael reached over and took her hand ‘What are you going to do then?’
‘I cant come to town and rip apart someone’s life Michael. He married Maria and she loves him and I think he loves her and was happy until I came back, if I remove myself from the race he’ll fix whatever damage my return has caused to his marriage’ she told him.
Michael laughed ‘you and him are so much alike. Talk to him first Liz find out why he married her before you make that decision for the both of you’ he suggested.
After Michael left, telling her he would return to Las Cruses and pack up their apartment and take care of everything. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do at this stage but he did know that he wanted to be close to Liz and Parker, even without the programming he felt demanding that he protect the heir to the throne it was something that he wanted to just do. Liz ventured out to her balcony outside her room.
That morning her mother had given her something that she thought she would want and might help her. Her journal.
She sat on her lounge chair and read through the 2 years of her life that she shared with Max. The shooting, her grandmother dying, their first kiss, their first date, him being kidnapped and then the first time they made love. It sounded like the single most romantic night of her life regardless of the fact that it was in a bus whilst they were on the run. It had her in tears for what she had lost, and not just her relationship with Max but the one she had had with Maria which seemed to mean nothing to the blonde anymore and then her friendship with Alex.
She always felt that there was something special out there waiting for her but she never dreamed that she had lost as much as she had. If the accident had never happened then her and Max would have been a family, Parker would have his Dad all the time and most likely Michael would have been happy too.
‘Liz are you ok?’ she was startled by the sound of Max’s voice and found him poking his head out her bedroom window.
Liz wiped her eyes ‘Yeah sorry’ she apologized. Max climbed out the window and approached her slowly it was then that he noticed the book that she was holding and he understood what the tears were all about.
‘Your journal’ he said.
‘Yeah my mum gave it to me this morning she thought I might like to read what my life used to be like’ she replied unable to hold the tears at bay any longer.
‘Where’s Parker?’ she asked then.
‘Oh he kind of picked up on your emotions so he wanted to come back. I convinced him to let me talk to you so I left him in the lounge room watching cartoons’ he replied.
‘Your mum and dad let me read it too’ he said before taking a seat at the end of the lounge chair.
‘You read it?’ she asked shocked, she had written a lot of personal stuff in it.
‘Yeah your mum and dad saw me find it. I knew where you kept it and I wanted it. It meant so much to you and I wanted it to feel close to you. I also didn’t want them to find it because of all the stuff about aliens that it had in it. I put the lock on it so that they wouldn’t be able to read it’
‘Are you ok?’ he asked then.
‘No’ she cried and then allowed him to pull her into his arms.
Max let her cry in his arms until her sobs slowed down ‘I’m sorry’ she said when she pulled back.
‘You don’t have to apologise I imagine that what you read overwhelmed you a little’ he replied.
‘How did everything turn out this way?’ she asked him then her teary eyes focused on his.
‘You went away and our lives fell apart. My life fell apart.’ he replied his own pain apparent through his voice.
‘I know that, I know I died and that you all had to move on with your life, survive but this book says I should have meant more, that you would all want me back’ she said her voice raising slightly.
‘What do you mean?’ he asked her confused of course they wanted her back; she had lit up his world so brightly since her return.
‘I mean my mum my dad, this book even Michael they all keep telling me about how great of friends Maria and I were and here I am, I’m back and I need that kind of best friend desperately. She’s supposed to be the person filling me in on all the things I’ve missed, telling me she took care of you for me but instead she hates me Max, she wishes that I never came back’ she yells through her tears by this stage she had started pacing.
‘Oh baby’ Max cries getting up and going to her. He pulls her into his arms again, she tries to fight him at first but he wont let her. ‘I know and I’m so sorry it’s all my fault’ he soothes her, his own tears falling silently. It was all his fault he should never have given in to Maria, how was he supposed to tell his soul mate the women he loved with every fiber of his being that he had married her best friend because he had thought that was what she would have wanted, to make sure that Maria was happy.
‘Why Max, why did you do that to Michael?’ she had to ask him them. Regardless of his answer and the possibility that it could break her already fragile heart she needed to know why Max had married Maria before she walked away from him forever.
‘I didn’t do anything to Michael Liz’ he answered her confused.
‘Of course you did Max, you hooked up with his girlfriend for Christ sake and you married her’ she replied angrily wrenching herself out of his arms quickly shocking Max with her forcefulness. It was the first time she acknowledged her anger over his marriage to Maria. She didn’t even remember and she was angry.
‘He left her Liz, he broke her heart and left Roswell and never looked back, she was miserable and I knew that it was my job to look after her that’s what you would have wanted, hell that’s what Michael would have wanted’ he replied.
‘He broke her heart? Oh your kidding me right?’ Liz replied. ‘Do you know the state he was in when he returned to Las Cruses after coming here and finding out the two of you were a couple?’ she asked.
‘He came here?’ Max asked shocked.
‘He came here to tell you he found me and when he got to Roswell he found out about the two of you from Isabel. He was a wreck when he showed up at my doorstep in the middle of the night Max and he’s been trying to live with it ever since’ she told him her voice softening.
‘Then why did he leave her to begin with Liz?’ he cried in frustration none of this was making any sense.
‘He didn’t Max’ Liz shook her head. ‘I think it time you went home to your wife and asked her to tell you the truth because it’s obvious she hasn’t been so far’

At the moment Maria is in denial, she think her and Max have something and because it's hers she forgetting that what Max and Liz had was pure and true. Yes, Parker definetly knows more that you think.

That night Liz and Parker had dinner downstairs in the Crashdown with Tess and Kyle.
‘So how’s it going Liz?’ Kyle asked her. She seemed very withdrawn compared to the way she had been when she had first shown up.
‘It’s going’ she replied offering him a small smile.
‘Anything you want to talk about?’ Tess asked her concerned.
‘There’s a whole heap I want to talk about’ Liz laughed ‘answers is all I want’ she shrugged.
‘But obviously something specific is worrying you’ Kyle said.
‘Did you always know me so well?’ Liz asked him with a small smile.
‘Um yeah we did date after all’ he replied.
Parker went back upstairs after he finished dinner; he was still upset with Liz that they weren’t staying with his daddy anymore.
‘Ok well my mum gave me my journal the other day and I’m confused about some of the things I read’ she told him.
‘Like what?’ Kyle asked Tess couldn’t help on this matter.
‘Well my feelings for Max seemed to be intense was that reciprocated?’ she asked.
‘Oh god’ Kyle smiled. ‘If you thought you had it bad for Max then you have no idea how gone that guy was on you’ he laughed.
‘I wanted to bash his head in when he stole you from me but I got over that and we became friends because I saw the way he loved you and how happy he made you and the way you loved him. You guys gave us all hope’ he told her.
‘And Maria and Michael?’
‘Fought like cat and dog, but when it was good it seemed good’ he shrugged.
‘And Max and Maria?’ she asked quietly.
‘Have you asked Max about that yet?’ Tess asked her. It was obvious that her dear friend had already fallen in love with Max.
‘Kind of. I didn’t come here to break up his marriage and I have no intention of doing that I guess I’m just trying to figure out how someone who was supposed to be my best friend, like a sister to me could dislike me so much now’ she sighed.
‘She knows that whether you’re here to steal her husband or not that the moment you returned she lost him. He doesn’t love her’ Tess answered.
‘Tess’ Kyle warned. No one knew better how unhappy Max was in his marriage to Maria better than Tess but Kyle believed it was up to Max to tell her that.
‘That’s what everyone keeps saying Tess but why did he marry her if he didn’t love her’ Liz cried out in frustration, she was sick of hearing all this crap from everyone. Why couldn’t someone tell her the truth?
‘I’m going to ask him to heal me, do you think it will work?’ Liz asked Tess wanting her opinion on Max’s powers.
’Wow I never thought’ of that she said. ‘I think it will work’
‘Do you think he’ll do it?’ she asked then she wasn’t quite sure whether Max wanted her to remember.
‘Yes I’m surprised he hasn’t already suggested it’ she told her.
‘The question is Liz are you ready to remember?’ Kyle asked her then. ‘Remembering your life is opening up a door you can never close again. Knowing you your going to try do the right thing by everyone again and you need to be prepared for the fact that you might not be willing to walk away once you remember’
‘Why would you say that?’ she looked at Kyle with a raised eyebrow, he seemed to know her well.
‘You’ve done it before. I know you Liz your already sitting here thinking about how you’re going to remove yourself from the love triangle that has become you, Max and Maria. My point is I know how much you loved Max and I don’t think you could walk away from that even if you wanted to and worse yet I know how much Max loves you and I don’t think he’ll let you walk away. The love the two of you share is beyond what the rest of us have ever understood’ he told her.
‘I agree with Kyle Liz. Really think about it before you make the decision you might not like what you find out’ Tess added.
So Liz thought about it. There was nothing else to think about when your lying in bed of a night and she kept coming back to the same decision every time. She needed to know, so with her decision made and a plan to talk to Max tomorrow she finally found peaceful sleep.

‘What are we doing today mummy’ Parker asked her over breakfast that morning.
‘Um well I actually need to see your Dad this morning so I thought we might go and visit’ she answered him. His face lights up at his mother’s words, he really wanted to see his Daddy he didn’t like the fact that they weren’t staying with him anymore.
After finishing up breakfast Liz and Parker were getting ready to leave when there was a knock on the door. Liz opened it and found Maria Evan’s standing on the other side.
‘Hi’ she smiled.
‘Um hi Maria’ Liz replied.
‘Can I come in?’ she asked her then.
‘Yeah sure’ Liz replied before taking a step back and letting the blonde in.
Parker came out then ready to go to his dad’s but his face fell when he saw that Maria was there ‘What she’s doing here?’ he asked his mother.
‘Parker Evan’s’ Liz scolded ‘that was rude’
Parker’s eyes dropped immediately he didn’t get in trouble often and he hated when his mother got upset with him.
‘Wow Michael certainly rubbed off on him’ Maria smiled trying to hide her discomfort at Liz using her husbands name at the end of their sons.
‘Parker why don’t you go to your room for a little while’ Liz suggested then.
‘But I thought we were going to see Daddy’ he bit his lip then and Maria couldn’t get over how much he looked like Liz then.
‘Parker’ Liz sighed ‘we still will I promise’
He nodded and then reluctantly walked back into his room.
‘I’m sorry I didn’t realise you guys had plans with Max’ Maria said then.
‘Um we didn’t I wanted to talk to him about the possibility of healing me and I was going to take Parker with me’ Liz replied.
Maria smiled ‘Listen Liz the reason I’m here is to apologise to you. Max made me realise a few things about the way I’ve been treating you and I’m ashamed of myself.’ She said then and Liz could tell that she was near tears.
‘The thing is I really need my best friend right now because my marriage is in shambles but what do I do when my best friend in the whole world in the reason for that?’ she cried. Liz wanted to hug her but she didn’t know if it would be welcome, and also she was a little upset with Maria, did she think this was easy for her.
‘Yeah well I really need my best friend too’ Liz replied.
They sat there in silence for a moment ‘Liz I have to ask you something?’
‘Ok’
‘Are you here to take my husband?’
‘What?’ Liz replied shocked ‘Maria I didn’t even know you or your husband until a couple of days ago’
‘I know but he remembers you Liz and if you go through with your plans to get your memory back are you going to take him then?’
‘I didn’t come here to break up your marriage’ Liz replied sadly.
‘I know but you are. I was going to start trying for a baby this week’ she cried then.
Liz looked up at her shocked her heart thumping. No they couldn’t have a baby Max already had one. He would forget all about Parker if Maria had his child, wouldn’t he?
‘I know it’s asking a lot and I don’t expect you to keep Parker from him but right now you don’t remember him or love him so I’m asking that you back away and let my marriage work’ she begged then.
Liz bit back her anger at the blonde’s request. Last night she had already decided she wasn’t going to interfere in Max’s marriage but what she was asking her was too much. She didn’t want her to get her memory back because she didn’t want to loose Max. Well Liz never remembered having him and she didn’t want to give him up but she was willing to sacrifice never knowing the love they shared again yet the blonde didn’t even have the guts to see if her marriage was strong enough to survive this bump in the road.
Liz didn’t respond to anything Maria said after that ‘I know I’m asking a lot’ she said as she hopped up and made her way to the door ‘and I’m sorry but I cant loose him Liz, I love him’ she finished before walking out the door.

‘That’s what everyone keeps saying Tess but why did he marry her if he didn’t love her’ Liz cried out in frustration, she was sick of hearing all this crap from everyone. Why couldn’t someone tell her the truth?
‘I’m going to ask him to heal me, do you think it will work?’ Liz asked Tess wanting her opinion on Max’s powers.
’Wow I never thought’ of that she said. ‘I think it will work’
‘Do you think he’ll do it?’ she asked then she wasn’t quite sure whether Max wanted her to remember.
‘Yes I’m surprised he hasn’t already suggested it’ she told her.
‘The question is Liz are you ready to remember?’ Kyle asked her then. ‘Remembering your life is opening up a door you can never close again. Knowing you your going to try do the right thing by everyone again and you need to be prepared for the fact that you might not be willing to walk away once you remember’
‘Why would you say that?’ she looked at Kyle with a raised eyebrow, he seemed to know her well.
‘You’ve done it before. I know you Liz your already sitting here thinking about how you’re going to remove yourself from the love triangle that has become you, Max and Maria. My point is I know how much you loved Max and I don’t think you could walk away from that even if you wanted to and worse yet I know how much Max loves you and I don’t think he’ll let you walk away. The love the two of you share is beyond what the rest of us have ever understood’ he told her.
‘I agree with Kyle Liz. Really think about it before you make the decision you might not like what you find out’ Tess added.
So Liz thought about it. There was nothing else to think about when your lying in bed of a night and she kept coming back to the same decision every time. She needed to know, so with her decision made and a plan to talk to Max tomorrow she finally found peaceful sleep.

‘What are we doing today mummy’ Parker asked her over breakfast that morning.
‘Um well I actually need to see your Dad this morning so I thought we might go and visit’ she answered him. His face lights up at his mother’s words, he really wanted to see his Daddy he didn’t like the fact that they weren’t staying with him anymore.
After finishing up breakfast Liz and Parker were getting ready to leave when there was a knock on the door. Liz opened it and found Maria Evan’s standing on the other side.
‘Hi’ she smiled.
‘Um hi Maria’ Liz replied.
‘Can I come in?’ she asked her then.
‘Yeah sure’ Liz replied before taking a step back and letting the blonde in.
Parker came out then ready to go to his dad’s but his face fell when he saw that Maria was there ‘What she’s doing here?’ he asked his mother.
‘Parker Evan’s’ Liz scolded ‘that was rude’
Parker’s eyes dropped immediately he didn’t get in trouble often and he hated when his mother got upset with him.
‘Wow Michael certainly rubbed off on him’ Maria smiled trying to hide her discomfort at Liz using her husbands name at the end of their sons.
‘Parker why don’t you go to your room for a little while’ Liz suggested then.
‘But I thought we were going to see Daddy’ he bit his lip then and Maria couldn’t get over how much he looked like Liz then.
‘Parker’ Liz sighed ‘we still will I promise’
He nodded and then reluctantly walked back into his room.
‘I’m sorry I didn’t realise you guys had plans with Max’ Maria said then.
‘Um we didn’t I wanted to talk to him about the possibility of healing me and I was going to take Parker with me’ Liz replied.
Maria smiled ‘Listen Liz the reason I’m here is to apologise to you. Max made me realise a few things about the way I’ve been treating you and I’m ashamed of myself.’ She said then and Liz could tell that she was near tears.
‘The thing is I really need my best friend right now because my marriage is in shambles but what do I do when my best friend in the whole world in the reason for that?’ she cried. Liz wanted to hug her but she didn’t know if it would be welcome, and also she was a little upset with Maria, did she think this was easy for her.
‘Yeah well I really need my best friend too’ Liz replied.
They sat there in silence for a moment ‘Liz I have to ask you something?’
‘Ok’
‘Are you here to take my husband?’
‘What?’ Liz replied shocked ‘Maria I didn’t even know you or your husband until a couple of days ago’
‘I know but he remembers you Liz and if you go through with your plans to get your memory back are you going to take him then?’
‘I didn’t come here to break up your marriage’ Liz replied sadly.
‘I know but you are. I was going to start trying for a baby this week’ she cried then.
Liz looked up at her shocked her heart thumping. No they couldn’t have a baby Max already had one. He would forget all about Parker if Maria had his child, wouldn’t he?
‘I know it’s asking a lot and I don’t expect you to keep Parker from him but right now you don’t remember him or love him so I’m asking that you back away and let my marriage work’ she begged then.
Liz bit back her anger at the blonde’s request. Last night she had already decided she wasn’t going to interfere in Max’s marriage but what she was asking her was too much. She didn’t want her to get her memory back because she didn’t want to loose Max. Well Liz never remembered having him and she didn’t want to give him up but she was willing to sacrifice never knowing the love they shared again yet the blonde didn’t even have the guts to see if her marriage was strong enough to survive this bump in the road.
Liz didn’t respond to anything Maria said after that ‘I know I’m asking a lot’ she said as she hopped up and made her way to the door ‘and I’m sorry but I cant loose him Liz, I love him’ she finished before walking out the door.

tequathisy - I think the important part to remember is that we were listening to was Maria's side of the story. Also, it might seem like Liz has been back for a while but in reality it's only been 4 days not too many people would make life changing decisions in that time without talking to the other people it involves and in this case Max has almost forgotten about his marriage and concentrated on Liz and Parker.
frenchkiss70 - I don't think Tess and Kyle are against it they are just trying to be honest with Liz and help her realise that remembering will put her into a completely different situation to the one she is whilst she doesn't remember.

A nervous and sad Liz Parker stood on the doorstep with her son Parker waiting for Max to answer to the door.
‘Hey’ he grinned when he opened the door and saw who it was. But his face instantly fell when he saw the signs that Liz had been crying.
‘Daddy!’ Parker yelped before moving forward to give his Dad a hug.
‘Hey little man’ Max smiled before placing a kiss on his son’s forehead.
‘Hi’ Liz tried to smile. Max led them into the lounge room and Liz sighed in relief when she saw so sign of Maria being home.
‘Hey Parker I got something for you today’ Max said to his son. His life had turned around for the better in the past few days, he had his Liz back, well he didn’t have her back but he planned on working on that and now he also had the most beautiful son in the world.
‘Really?’
‘Yeah it’s upstairs in your bedroom. I set it up for you so why don’t you go and check it out so I can talk to your mummy’ he suggested.
‘Ok’ the little boy grinned before running up the stairs to check out what his father had bought him.
‘I got him a play station, he seemed to really like Kyle’s’ Max told Liz.
‘Oh he’s going to love that’ she smiled back.
Max took her hand then and led her to the lounge ‘What’s wrong?’
‘I don’t want to talk about it’ she replied shaking her head. ‘There is something that I wanted to talk to you about though’
‘Ok’ he smiled he was concerned about what had upset her so much that she didn’t want to talk about it. I guess he wasn’t used to Liz being so closed off from him. He hadn’t gotten the chance to talk to Maria yet about what him and Liz had discussed the day before. They talked but it had mainly been fighting, her about all the time he was spending with Liz and him about her atrocious behavior. That was another knew thing for Max, fighting. Him and Liz had never fought, ever. Yes they had got upset over things but they never yelled at each other. It felt like all he ever did was fight with Maria and he often wondered how Michael put up with it for 8 years when Max was struggling with 3 days of it.
‘Do you think you could heal me?’ she asked.
Max looked at her surprised he hadn’t even thought about that ‘Wow I didn’t even think about that’ he replied ‘Do you want to remember?’ he asked her then hoping and praying that she would say yes. He needed her to remember.
‘Yes’ she replied. ‘I’ve thought a lot about this Max and it’s what I want. No it’s what I need’
‘Ok do you want to do it now?’ he asked.
‘Yeah’
‘Come here’ he gestured then. She scooted closer to him but for Max it still wasn’t close enough so he pulled her onto his lap until she was straddling him.
‘I’m going to connect with you so just clear your mind ok’ he smiled, she was biting her lower lip in the cute way she did when she was nervous and he just wanted to take it into his mouth and kiss it so he did. Without thought Liz immediately responded to his kiss and seconds later she felt the connection spring to life.
Max searched through Liz’s mind trying to find where the damage was but he couldn’t find anything. That’s when he found a door and he assumed everything had been locked away but when he pulled on the door it wouldn’t open instead he received a flash, or a memory or even a premonition he couldn’t be sure.
Liz was screaming in agony begging her captor to let her go. It was then that Max saw Nicholas and he had a hand on Liz’s head and he was raping her mind, sifting through her thoughts looking for something. He could feel how frightened she was and how much it was hurting her and he wanted to reach out and wrench Nicolas away from her but he couldn’t control the flash.
Liz on the other hand was instantly assailed with visions of herself all throughout Max’s mind. Of the two of them making love and just lots and lots of snap shots of moments and kisses between them. She felt his feelings for her and they were so intense that she couldn’t stand to feel them anymore, everywhere she looked she was there, it was all her and then more recently she saw images of their son. She felt what Max went through when she went missing and worse yet when he and his parents were forced to accept the fact that she was gone. It was all just too much so she ripped herself from Max instantly breaking the connection.
‘I, I have to go’ she stuttered then before fleeing the house without looking back to see the devastated look on Max’s face or the fear she had never seen before plaguing his eyes.
Max stood at the window and watched at his soul mate, the love of his life ran from him and he couldn’t blame her. Everything that he was had hurt her or would hurt her and if he was her he would run as far away as he could too.

‘Daddy?’ Parker called out to his father as he walked into the lounge room and saw his father curled up in a ball in the corner near the window.
Max didn’t answer though. He couldn’t stop replaying the flash of Nicholas over and over again his head. Liz was gone and he had no idea where she was and didn’t think she would ever come back now that she knew what had happened so he moved back into the darkest corner of his mind where who he was wouldn’t be able to hurt her anymore or in the future.
‘Daddy?’ he called out again leaning out to touch him. Maria walked in to the house then and sighed when he saw Parker she thought they would have come and gone by now. It was then that she noticed the small boy had started to cry.
‘Parker what’s wrong?’ she asked walking further into the room it was then that she noticed Max and she immediately started to panic thinking something had happened to him.
‘Max’ she cried running over to him but as soon as she touched him his shield activated and sent her flying across the room and into the wall.
Parker ran over to her then to check that she was ok, he placed a hand on her body and used his powers to see if he could fix her but he couldn’t tell what was wrong so he raced into the kitchen and picked up the phone and typed in the number to the only person he thought could help.

When Liz had ran out of the house she had kept running. She didn’t think about Parker who she had left without a word she just needed to get away from Max’s memories. She finally stopped running when she reached the park, which was about 10 blocks away from Max’s she took a seat on a bench then and let everything go. She cried for Max and the pain he had been put through when he thought she was dead, she cried for her parents and she cried for herself because now she had an idea of what she had lost.

‘Hello’ he answered the phone.
‘Uncle Michael’ Parker cried into the phone.
‘Park is that you?’ Michael asked concerned.
‘Yes you have to help something happened to Daddy’ he cried into the phone.
‘Ok mate calm down where are you?’
‘Daddy’s’ he cried then.
‘Is there anyone else there? Where’s mummy?’ he asked him. He was already out the door and getting ready to hop on his bike.
‘I don’t know’ he cried ‘Maria is here Daddy hurt her with his powers’
‘Ok I’m on my way Park ok go and open the door for me and I’ll see you in a couple of minutes’ Michael assured him.
The phone went dead then so Parker hung it up and raced back out to open the door so that Michael could get in. When the door was open he went back over to his father.
‘Daddy?’ he cried. Once again he got no response from Max who continued to stare into nothingness. The little boy was scared so he wrapped his arms around his father and cried into his chest and that’s how Michael found him when he arrived a few minutes later.
He picked up the phone and dial Isabel immediately ‘Izzy?’
‘Michael what do you want I’m on my honeymoon’ she sighed.
‘Get over to Max’s now’ he told her before clicking his cell phone off.
‘Max’ he called out to his friend as he approached. He was just about to put his hand up to shake him when the green shield activated around him and Parker and Michael only just jumped back in time.
He looked behind him then and noticed for the first time that Maria was knocked out on the ground. He quickly went over to her to check if she was ok assuming that she had been hit by attempting the same thing he had.
He used his powers which he had a lot more control over these days to heal the bump on her head and just as he was picking her up to move her to the lounge she started to stir.
‘Max?’ she asked.
‘No, Michael’ he replied gruffly.
He set her down on the lounge and let her pull herself up ‘What happened?’ she asked him. She was a little concerned as to what he was doing in her house.
‘Max over here blasted you apparently’ he shrugged before stalking off back towards Max and Parker.
‘Max’ he yelled out trying to get the other aliens attention but it was no good.
‘Oh my god Max’ Maria gasped when she sat up and saw him. ‘What’s wrong with him Michael?’ she cried she wanted to go to him but Michael held her back and once again the shield activated around him and Parker who had fallen asleep against his father’s chest.
‘I don’t know I cant get anywhere near him so we’ll have to wait for Isabel’ he replied.
Isabel and Alex arrived about 5 minutes later and her response had been similar to his and Maria’s. Michael however was able to pull her back before the shield hit her though.
‘What happened?’ she asked.
Michael sighed ‘Look I don’t know. Parker called and was crying he couldn’t get his attention either. He said Max knocked Maria out with his powers so I’m assuming he meant the shield’ he replied.
‘Where’s Liz?’ Isabel asked then slightly panicked that something alien had happened here.
‘I don’t know’ Michael sighed.
‘Have you tried calling her cell?’ Isabel asked then practically.
Michael looked up stupidly then, that hadn’t even occurred to him.
‘I’ll do it’ Alex told them.
‘Can you dream walk him?’ Maria asked then.
‘I can try’ Isabel replied. She took one of the photos of Max and Maria off the mantle and lay down on the couch.

‘Oh my god Max’ Maria gasped when she sat up and saw him. ‘What’s wrong with him Michael?’ she cried she wanted to go to him but Michael held her back and once again the shield activated around him and Parker who had fallen asleep against his father’s chest.
‘I don’t know I cant get anywhere near him so we’ll have to wait for Isabel’ he replied.
Isabel and Alex arrived about 5 minutes later and her response had been similar to his and Maria’s. Michael however was able to pull her back before the shield hit her though.
‘What happened?’ she asked.
Michael sighed ‘Look I don’t know. Parker called and was crying he couldn’t get his attention either. He said Max knocked Maria out with his powers so I’m assuming he meant the shield’ he replied.
‘Where’s Liz?’ Isabel asked then slightly panicked that something alien had happened here.
‘I don’t know’ Michael sighed.
‘Have you tried calling her cell?’ Isabel asked then practically.
Michael looked up stupidly then, that hadn’t even occurred to him.
‘I’ll do it’ Alex told them.
‘Can you dream walk him?’ Maria asked then.
‘I can try’ Isabel replied. She took one of the photos of Max and Maria off the mantle and lay down on the couch.

‘Liz it’s Alex thank god your ok’ Alex said into her phone.
‘Of course I’m ok’ she replied sensing that there was something more to Alex’s concern and why was he at Max’s calling her when him and Isabel were on their honeymoon.
‘Liz where are you?’ he asked her then.
‘Um in the park I needed to get out of the house. Is everything ok?’
‘No Liz it’s not you need to come back to Max’s straight away’ he replied.
‘What’s wrong?’ Liz asked panicked she was already up and moving back towards the house.
‘It’s Max’ is all he replied before Liz hung up the phone and began running back to the house.

Everything was dark and Isabel couldn’t see a thing. She tried to search through the darkness trying her best to find her brother but he was nowhere. She was just about to give up and leave when she saw a faint light and an image of Liz sitting against a wall crying but there was still no sign of Max anywhere.
Isabel sat up and found Alex holding her hand staring at her with concern.
‘Are you ok you seemed to be getting upset?’ he asked concerned.
‘Yeah’ she tried to smile.
‘Did you find him?’ Maria asked her then.
Isabel looked at the girl, she knew that Maria wasn’t going to like the answer to her question or the solution to the problem but the most important thing at the moment was Max.
‘No’ she shook her head deciding that saying at little as possible was the best option for now.
‘We need Liz’ she said then.
‘She’s on her way’ Alex told her then.
‘What do we need Liz for?’ Maria asked confused and feeling somewhat helpless. Max was her husband shouldn’t she be able to help him?
Before Isabel could answer though Liz burst through the front doors out of breath.
‘What happened?’ she asked looking around the room, she hadn’t seen Max or Parker yet and it was clear that she was panicked by the look in her eyes.
Isabel pointed to the corner of the room then and watched as Liz’s face fell at the sight. There was her baby curled up against his father whilst Max stared into nothing. She immediately took a step forward until she heard Michael yell at her to stop.
She ignored him though and took another step and to everyone’s amazement the green shield didn’t activate.
‘What’s wrong with Parker?’ she asked then a little worried.
‘Nothing I think he just cried himself to sleep. He was fine when he rang me’ Michael explained.
Liz nodded and sighed in relief ‘Michael come and take him’ she told him then and Michael hesitantly stepped forward and picked the small boy up and placed him on the couch.
Liz kneeled down in front of Max then ‘Max’ she said softly. She felt terrible had she done this to him when they connected and he tried to heal her?
Max’s eyes seemed to react when he heard Liz’s voice but it was so slight Isabel thought she might have imagined it. Liz thought about what she could do to bring Max back to her and the only thing she could think of at the moment was to connect with him but she didn’t have the power to do that by herself. There was only one solution to the problem she thought.
‘Could you all leave the room please?’ she turned and asked then. Both Maria and Michael were about to object but before they could Isabel gestured for Alex to pick up Parker and she ferried them out of the room.
‘We’ll be upstairs’ she assured the brunette then.
‘Max?’ Liz called to him again but still he didn’t react anymore than he had the time before so Liz snapped into action. Leaning forward she gently caressed his lips with her own soft ones. When she didn’t get an immediate response she decided to continue as well as open her eyes, and then she was in. She felt the connection flare up immediately. Before she knew what was happening Max’s lips started to respond and she felt him kissing her back. His tongue snaked out of his mouth and caressed her bottom lip until Liz eagerly granted access. There tongues slid against each other in what Liz could only describe as a perfect dance. Kissing Max was the most perfect feeling in the world and she never wanted to stop but in the back of her mind she knew she had too.
Max’s hand snaked into her hair as he pulled her closer to him whilst deepening the kiss even more. The dance of their mouths and tongues soon turned soft and passionate and what Liz could only imagine making love felt like.
‘Liz’ she heard Max moan in to her mouth.
When they pulled away both needing air Liz realized that Max had started crying so she gently reached out and wiped the tears away.
‘Are you ok?’ she whispered. She didn’t want to talk to loud and risk the others hearing her, she just needed some more time with him and she could tell that he needed more time with her alone too. She thought about how she knew that then and she realized that in her mind and her heart she could feel him.
‘I can feel you’ she whispered in awe.
‘You remember? Our connections back?’ he asked shocked.
‘No I don’t remember but I can feel your emotions’ she smiled softly.
She turned to him looking more serious then, she had had to search for him through their connection he had retreated back into himself into the darkest recesses of his mind and only their love which had guided Liz like a torch had allowed her to find him and bring him back to her ‘don’t you ever do that to me again’ she started to cry ‘you were going to leave us’
Max wasted no time pulling her back to him. ‘I’m sorry’ he cried ‘I promise never again’ he swore through his tears. He couldn’t believe that she was here that she came back to him after everything, he thought that he had lost her, again.
They heard footsteps running down the stairs then and Liz pulled back away and wiped her eyes ‘Don’t please’ he begged referring to her leaving ‘I need you right now’ he told her.
‘I know but everyone’s here come over tonight ok I’ll be waiting and you know the best way in’ she told him and he managed to nod just before a crying Parker launched himself into his arms.
‘Daddy!’ he cried. Isabel and Michael came running down after the little boy and soon Alex and Maria had joined them as well.
Maria wanted to go to her husband desperately but Parker was clinging to him and she noticed with sadness that he had Liz’s hand clasped tightly in his hand as well like he was trying to prevent her from leaving.
‘I’m sorry Liz he just woke up and called out for Max and before we could stop him he was halfway down the stairs’ Isabel aplogised it was apparent they interrupted something.
‘Its ok’ Liz smiled before removing her hand from Max’s and standing up. As soon as she took a step back Isabel took her place embracing her brother in a tight hug.
‘I thought we lost you’ she whispered.
‘No I just needed help finding my way’ he replied his eyes meeting Liz’s.
Maria was next to launch herself at him immediately moving to cover his faces in kisses Max had to fight the desire to push her off him ‘I was so scared’ she told him ‘I love you please don’t scare me like that again’ she begged.
‘What the hell happened Maxwell?’ Michael asked then. He didn’t think he could take watching Maria throwing herself all over him any longer and he could also tell that it was making Liz completely uncomfortable too.
Max dropped his head after the question because he didn’t know how to answer it and the truth was it was something that was between him and Liz.
‘Could we not talk about it please. I’m sorry I scared you guys and I’m especially sorry to you Iz and Alex to interrupt your honeymoon’
‘It’s ok Max we don’t leave for it until tomorrow so we’ll forgive you this time’ Alex joked.
‘That’s not good enough Maxwell you could have hurt one of us with your shield, in fact you did hurt Maria’ Michael replied angrily.
‘What are you talking about?’
‘No one but Parker and Liz could get near you without your shield going up and you threw Maria across the room’ Michael told him angrily.
‘It wasn’t Daddy’s fault’ Parker yelled in defense of his dad. ‘She shouldn’t have gone near my daddy’ Parker said angrily.
‘Parker honey come here’ Liz said then trying to get her son to stay out of the argument she knew was coming.
‘I’m sorry’ Max said then moving his gaze on everyone. ‘Are you okay Maria?’ he asked her then.
‘Um yeah but you can check me out a little more thoroughly later’ she smiled suggestively as though she was oblivious to everyone in the room..
Liz couldn’t take anymore she had to get out of there ‘Come on honey we need to get home’ Liz said to Parker grabbing his hand and walking towards the door before anyone could object, although she didn’t think anyone would.
‘Liz wait’ she heard Michael call out as they made there way to the car. Parker didn’t want to leave and kept saying he wanted to stay with his Daddy but Liz told him that Daddy was busy and that they would just have to see him later.
‘Look Michael’ she said through gritted teeth she was on the verge of loosing it again right now ‘not now’
‘Did you want me to maybe take Parker for the afternoon, maybe even the night?’ He recognized the signs, Liz was close to a melt down.
‘Yes, Yes that would be great’ she sighed.
‘Okay well can you handle the bike?’ he smiled.
‘Hand it over you know I can’ she replied smugly and caught the keys Michael chucked at her easily.
‘Parker mate want to the spend the night with Uncle Mike?’ he asked.
Parker shrugged and Michael could tell he had his work cut out for him.
‘Bye sweetie’ Liz said before giving him a kiss.
‘We’re going to head to see that movie he’s been wanting to see’ Michael told Liz and Liz smiled back when she saw that the mention of the movie got Parker’s attention.
‘thank you’ Liz mouthed as she watched Michael and Parker pull out of the driveway and after they were gone she pulled on her helmet which Michael always kept on the back of the bike and then jumped on and sped off.

extingman - I think Max's reaction is going to surprise you actually. Michael isn't like the Michael we all know from Roswell. He's the Michael that he was to Maria when he didn't leave in departure and when Alex died. Being part of a family with Liz and Parker changed him.

Max became catatonic because of the flash he saw and he thought that Liz saw it too and realised that the reason that she had gone missing, or would was because of who he is. When she left he thought she was leaving him, again!.
Part 14
‘Where did Liz and Parker go?’ Max asked when he heard the sound of a bike which he assumed was Michael speed off. He had been occupied with Maria fussing over him.
‘Her and Parker just left’ Isabel explained. She knew that Liz did her best to slip out quietly but she thought Max realised.
‘Oh’ he said disappointed he tried to focus on her to see if could pick up on what she was feeling and when he did he felt like he’d been hit by a sledgehammer. He had to get to her and get to her soon.
‘We’re going to head too if everything’s alright’ Isabel said then. She could tell that Max wasn’t comfortable with how affectionate Maria was being but he’d made his bed a while ago and now he had to lie in it as far as Isabel was concerned.
‘Yeah thanks for coming over and I’m sorry I caused so much trouble’ he tried to smile at his sister. ‘Have a safe and wonderful honeymoon’
When he and Maria had gotten married almost a year ago they hadn’t really had a honeymoon. Mainly because Max couldn’t bring himself to take one and the other reason because he couldn’t get the time off work. Instead they had settled for a couple of days away at his parents cabin. He envied Isabel and Alex then because she had just married the man she loved and she was excited about her life with him and the honeymoon they were heading on.
‘We will, I’ll ring you’ Isabel told her brother before giving him a hug and a kiss and then her and Alex left.
Max watched them go from the front door he didn’t want to have to deal with Maria at the moment.
‘Hey’ she said coming up behind him and hugging him.
‘Hey’ he replied before shaking out of her embrace and shutting the door. He walked into the living room then and hopped down in one of the armchairs mainly because he knew Maria couldn’t sit on top of him there.
‘So do you want to talk about what happened?’ she asked him then she hoped now that everyone had left that he would open up to her.
‘No’ he shook his head.
‘Ok well do you want to go upstairs and check me out properly’ she asked him then lifting her eyebrows suggestively. Max had to stop himself from outwardly cringing at what she was implying. The last thing he could think of right now was having sex with Maria or being intimate in anyway with her he didn’t even think his body would support the action.
‘Um why don’t you just lie down on the couch and I’ll scan you’ he replied.
‘Not what I had in mind honey’ she replied.
‘Obviously, but it’s all I can handle right now’
Maria was about to respond to his refusal when she seemed to hesitate and instead laid down on the couch to allow him to check her over. She knew that nothing was wrong but she hoped that he would connect with her, in the entire time they had been together he had never once done that, she always thought it was because there was no reason to but now she was starting to see that he was reluctant to for some reason.
Max watched as she lied down when a thought crossed his mind. He needed to be with Liz and it was obvious from what he was feeling off her that she needed him just as much right now but he knew Maria wouldn’t just let him walk out of the house knowing that he was going straight to Liz. He hated the thought of what he was about to do but he was a desperate man right now.
Walking over to her he scanned her body from her feet up to her neck. When he reached there he placed his hand on the back of her neck and within seconds she was knocked out. He stood there and stared at her for a while feeling guilty as hell for what he just did, she wouldn’t wake until he returned and then he would just make an excuse that she had fallen asleep.

When Liz got home she drew herself a bath with lots of bubbles, lit candles all around her room and the bathroom and hit play on the CD player. She didn’t know what was in there but she smiled when she heard one of her favorite bands Gomez, the CD was old probably the one she had in there before her disappearance she thought..
She stripped off then after throwing her hair up on top of her head before sinking into the hot bath.

Max pulled his SUV into the alley outside Liz’s balcony hoping that it wouldn’t be visible from the street if anyone was to drive past, specifically Amy Valenti. He climbed up the ladder like an expert, he shouldn’t have been surprised even though Liz hadn’t been up the top for 8 years he hadn’t stopped going up there. Sometimes he would just sneak into her room finding it the only place he could feel close to her because all her stuff was still there.
He looked through the closed window once he reached the top but he couldn’t see her anywhere. He noticed that there were candles lit all around the room and then he heard the soft tunes of the old Gomez CD he and Liz had both loved. He could feel her presence so he knew that she wasn’t far so he used his powers to unlock the window and enter.
Liz continued to fight the urge to break down instead laying her head against the edge of the tub and letting her mind clear and think about nothing but the sounds of Gomez.
Max looked around the room and took in the scene. It still looked the same except now it smelled like her again and it had her things scattered around the room again.
She was home.
He heard the sound of water then and realised that she was in the bathroom, most likely in a bubble bath he wondered then where Parker was and he realised he couldn’t sense him near.
He walked towards the bathroom but stopped in the doorway leaning against it taking in the beautiful sight before him. She looked so peaceful, he wasn’t sure if she was asleep or not but he didn’t have the heart to interrupt her.

‘Where did Liz and Parker go?’ Max asked when he heard the sound of a bike which he assumed was Michael speed off. He had been occupied with Maria fussing over him.

Max pulled his SUV into the alley outside Liz’s balcony hoping that it wouldn’t be visible from the street if anyone was to drive past, specifically Amy Valenti. The sun peeking through the window brought Max out of his peaceful sleep the next morning. He was a little confused at first about where he was until he looked down and saw the angel in his arms. ‘What did you do?’ Liz asked him lifting an eyebrow.
‘Cant hide anything from you can I?’ he asked with a smile.

‘I kind of helped her go to sleep’ he shrugged.
Liz sat up ‘Max!’
‘I know but I couldn’t stay there any longer Liz I had to be here with you’ he tried to defend himself.
Liz shook her head ‘Go Max and don’t ever do that again’ she chided.
‘Liz?’ he didn’t know where they stood now and he really wanted to talk to her about it.
She didn’t look at him at first so he reached over and turned her face towards him and he saw the pain in her eyes, she didn’t want to send him home but she knew she had too.
‘I love you’ He told her.
‘I love you too’ she replied quietly but he heard her and it made his heart soar and his grin to widen because it had been 8 long years since he had heard those words he moved to kiss her and take her back into his arms but Liz’s little hands pushing on his chest permitted it.
‘I love you too but your married and as much as I loved last night it can’t happen again’ she told him sadly, tears glistening in her eyes.
Max was just about to beg her not to say that when he heard the sound of his sons and Michael voice outside the apartment.
‘I need to go back to Las Cruses’ Liz told him quickly.

‘I thought we might go today’ Liz shrugged trying to hide how much pushing him away was hurting her.
They heard Michael and Parkers voice then. ‘Please don’t leave before dropping over’ he pleaded as he backed towards the window.
Liz nodded and Max hopped out of the window and climbed down the ladder just before Parker came running into his mothers room.
He looked around as though trying to find something before turning to his mother ‘Where’s Daddy?’ he asked.
Liz was shocked, how did he know? She was glad that Michael hadn’t followed him in.
‘We’ll go see him in a little while ok. Now come here and give your mum some lovin’ she replied and seconds later her son threw himself into her arms.

When Max opened the door to his house he sighed. It didn’t feel like home anymore it never really had he thought. Home had always been with Liz but even more so now with Liz and Parker. He noticed that Maria was still in the same position she had been in when he left so he pulled a blanket over her. He needed to have a shower and change his clothes before waking her up.
When he was done he came back down the stairs and walked over to Maria, he placed his hand on the back of her neck and when he saw the signs that we beginning to wake up he quickly fled to the kitchen so she didn’t get suspicious.
Maria woke up from the fog that surrounded her brain and looked around. Why was she still on the couch and why was she still in the same clothes that she had on yesterday. It was obvious that it was morning by the way the sun was streaming through the front rooms.
She heard the sound of the fridge opening and shutting and the sounds of someone and assumed that Max was in the kitchen. She was right he seemed to be preparing something that looked liked pancakes.
‘Hey’ she said.
Max turned around ‘Hi’ he said but she noted sadly there was no smile or no good morning kiss. It wasn’t like there had ever been very much affection except for hugs, Max just wasn’t that type of person anymore but for someone who had smiled more in a week then he had for eight years it hurt that he couldn’t find one for her.
‘Um what happened last night how did I end up asleep on the couch the last thing I remember is you were scanning me’ she asked.
‘Oh yeah I think that the healing must have tired you out you just conked out so I let you sleep’ he shrugged.
‘Oh’ she replied why hadn’t he woken her so she could go to bed with him or better yet carry her up the stairs.
‘How long till breakfast is ready?’ she asked him then.
‘Oh um about 20 minutes I guess’ he shrugged he had turned back around and continued preparing the pancakes he wanted to have Liz’s favorite ready for when her and Parker arrived.

‘Can I knock mummy?’ Parker asked as he and Liz approached Max’s door.
Parker had been so excited to see Max and Liz had been keen to get an early start on the road that she had decided to get straight up and head over. She knew Max would be expecting them and she suspected he would have breakfast waiting and if not she would just pick up some on the road. She had decided to head back to Las Cruses for a couple of days and maybe try and tie up some loose ends and let Parker say good bye to some friends.
Michael had been the day before and packed up most of their belongings they would be delivered sometime today so he had agreed to organize some storage until they decided where they were going to live. It had been mutually decided that they wouldn’t share a place any longer. Liz wanted to buy a house so that Parker could have a back yard to play in and maybe get a dog, she was going to put some roots down in Roswell she had the money after all. Michael didn’t know what he was going to do.
It was also a good chance for Liz to get her thoughts in order. She hadn’t told anyone that she had her memory back yet not even her son. She intended on doing that whilst they were away she didn’t think Parker would really understand though. She was nervous about seeing Max again after last night and this morning she didn’t know how he was going to act and she didn’t have a clue how she was supposed to act now she just had to hope she didn’t have to face Maria.
Liz gave Parker the go ahead to knock on the door but before he got the chance Max opened the door with a big smile.
‘Daddy!’ the little boy squealed.
‘Hey buddy’ Max smiled and moved aside so the little boy could run in the house.
‘Hi’ he smiled at Liz.
‘Guess your getting better with this whole connection thing’ she smiled.
‘Yeah you could say that. Come in’ he told her. Something seemed different about Liz he noticed then, he had felt it after they had made love last night and this morning as well. It was something in her eyes he just couldn’t put his finger on it and in the end decided to just believe it was because of their love making.
Liz followed Max into the kitchen where they found Parker busy setting the table and Liz just shook her head ‘How come your so helpful at Dad’s place?’ she asked her son who just grinned at his mum and shrugged.
Max went to work cooking the pancakes then and Liz got the juice out of the fridge, none of them noticed Maria at the entrance to the kitchen watching the scene in shock. When did they get here and if Max was expecting them how come he hadn’t said anything she thought but the worst part was watching them move around the kitchen acting like a family and as though they had been having breakfast together for years.
‘Daddy?’ Parker said. Max turned around slightly so he could see his son but not enough that he could see Maria in the doorway.
‘Yeah?’
‘When are my sisters going to get here?’ he asked innocently.
‘Your sisters?’ Liz asked she was a little shocked and completely confused by Parkers question but Maria gasped, could it be true could she be pregnant?.
‘Parker am I pregnant?’ Maria asked walking into the room making her presence known.
Max was shocked he had no idea what to do or say.
Parker looked up at Maria confused ‘I don’t know’ he shrugged. ‘I had a dream about my sisters last night they’re ready to come play with me’ he tried to explain and then turned to his mother.
‘Can they come soon? Please’ he asked.
‘Oh god Max you have to check I must be pregnant’ Maria exclaimed excitedly.
Liz’s face immediately went pale she didn’t want to even think about anyone else having Max’s baby.
‘Parker honey you said sisters does that mean I’m having two babies?’ Maria asked him getting more excited by the minute.
‘Your not having my sisters silly, you cant’ Parker told her shaking his head.
‘Oh’ Maria sighed disappointed.
But Max immediately felt relieved.
Liz however focused on the other thing Parker said which she found odd ‘Parker what do you mean she cant?’ Liz asked him.
‘Only you can have my sister because you’re my mummy’ he told her.
‘Oh! listen honey if Daddy and Maria have a baby then that baby would also be a brother or a sister to you’ she tried to explain without making herself feel sick.
‘Uh uh mummy only you can have Daddies babies because you’re his wife’ he told her.
‘No sweetie Maria is Daddies wife, remember’
‘Uh uh mummy you are you have the seal, see’ he said before approaching her and waving his hand across her forehead. A bright light instantly shot out showing the v shape constellation causing Max and Maria to both gasp.
‘Parker what does that mean?’ Max asked his son. He wasn’t sure where he was getting this information but he seemed to know a lot.
‘That’s mummies seal it says she’s the queen and your wife and my mummy’ he smiled proudly before waving his hand and making it go away.
‘No I’m Max’s wife Parker’ Maria said she was feeling a little panicked as she turned to Max. ‘Ask him what he means about me not being able to have your children?’ she begged Max.
Max moved away from his wife and went and pulled Parker into his arms before sitting down at the table near Liz with Parker on his lap.
‘Ok mate can you tell my why you said only mummy can have your sisters?’ he asked.
‘Because you are the King and Mummy is the Queen and I’m your son. All the King’s children can only be had by the Queen’ he explained as though he was the adult and Max and Liz were the children.
‘Oh god’ Liz sighed.
‘No it’s not true how would he know that Max?’ Maria argued.
Max sighed he was relieved that it meant there was no way Maria was pregnant but his first thought now was that Liz might have been, they hadn’t used anything last night and he didn’t know if she was on birth control. The thought made him happy and a little concerned at the same time because he wasn’t sure how Liz would take the news if she was, especially after this morning.
‘He’s right’ Liz said then. ‘It makes sense’
‘So when will my sisters get here?’ he asked his parents again they still hadn’t answered his question and he wanted to know.

The sun peeking through the window brought Max out of his peaceful sleep the next morning. He was a little confused at first about where he was until he looked down and saw the angel in his arms. Liz was still wrapped in his arms her beautiful doe brown eyes staring back at him, a small smile lighting her face when she realised he had caught her staring at him.
‘Morning’ he smiled.
‘Morning’ she replied and eagerly accepted the sweet kiss he offered.
‘How long have you been awake?’ he asked her scratching his eyebrow.
Liz giggled ‘a little while’ but then she noticed the time it wasn’t too late but she could feel Parker was already awake and knowing her son he would want to be brought home to her soon.
‘You should get home I’m sure Maria’s already wondering where you are’ she frowned, she just knew Max was going to get chewed out when he got home. Max looked at her guiltily then, guilty because he had a wife and he had betrayed her and guilty because of what he did to Maria.
‘What did you do?’ Liz asked him lifting an eyebrow.
‘Cant hide anything from you can I?’ he asked with a smile.
‘Nah so don’t even try’ she replied.
‘I kind of helped her go to sleep’ he shrugged.
Liz sat up ‘Max!’
‘I know but I couldn’t stay there any longer Liz I had to be here with you’ he tried to defend himself.
Liz shook her head ‘Go Max and don’t ever do that again’ she chided.
‘Liz?’ he didn’t know where they stood now and he really wanted to talk to her about it.
She didn’t look at him at first so he reached over and turned her face towards him and he saw the pain in her eyes, she didn’t want to send him home but she knew she had too.
‘I love you’ He told her.
‘I love you too’ she replied quietly but he heard her and it made his heart soar and his grin to widen because it had been 8 long years since he had heard those words he moved to kiss her and take her back into his arms but Liz’s little hands pushing on his chest permitted it.
‘I love you too but your married and as much as I loved last night it can’t happen again’ she told him sadly, tears glistening in her eyes.
Max was just about to beg her not to say that when he heard the sound of his sons and Michael voice outside the apartment.
‘I need to go back to Las Cruses’ Liz told him quickly.
‘What!! When?’ he cried.
‘I thought we might go today’ Liz shrugged trying to hide how much pushing him away was hurting her.
They heard Michael and Parkers voice then. ‘Please don’t leave before dropping over’ he pleaded as he backed towards the window.
Liz nodded and Max hopped out of the window and climbed down the ladder just before Parker came running into his mothers room.
He looked around as though trying to find something before turning to his mother ‘Where’s Daddy?’ he asked.
Liz was shocked, how did he know? She was glad that Michael hadn’t followed him in.
‘We’ll go see him in a little while ok. Now come here and give your mum some lovin’ she replied and seconds later her son threw himself into her arms.

When Max opened the door to his house he sighed. It didn’t feel like home anymore it never really had he thought. Home had always been with Liz but even more so now with Liz and Parker. He noticed that Maria was still in the same position she had been in when he left so he pulled a blanket over her. He needed to have a shower and change his clothes before waking her up.
When he was done he came back down the stairs and walked over to Maria, he placed his hand on the back of her neck and when he saw the signs that we beginning to wake up he quickly fled to the kitchen so she didn’t get suspicious.
Maria woke up from the fog that surrounded her brain and looked around. Why was she still on the couch and why was she still in the same clothes that she had on yesterday. It was obvious that it was morning by the way the sun was streaming through the front rooms.
She heard the sound of the fridge opening and shutting and the sounds of someone and assumed that Max was in the kitchen. She was right he seemed to be preparing something that looked liked pancakes.
‘Hey’ she said.
Max turned around ‘Hi’ he said but she noted sadly there was no smile or no good morning kiss. It wasn’t like there had ever been very much affection except for hugs, Max just wasn’t that type of person anymore but for someone who had smiled more in a week then he had for eight years it hurt that he couldn’t find one for her.
‘Um what happened last night how did I end up asleep on the couch the last thing I remember is you were scanning me’ she asked.
‘Oh yeah I think that the healing must have tired you out you just conked out so I let you sleep’ he shrugged.
‘Oh’ she replied why hadn’t he woken her so she could go to bed with him or better yet carry her up the stairs.
‘How long till breakfast is ready?’ she asked him then.
‘Oh um about 20 minutes I guess’ he shrugged he had turned back around and continued preparing the pancakes he wanted to have Liz’s favorite ready for when her and Parker arrived.
‘Ok well I’m going to go and have a shower since I have time’ she smiled and then she walked over and leaned in to give him a kiss.
‘Ok’ he replied pulling away quickly so that their lips barely had any contact something that didn’t go unnoticed by Maria.
I’ve got to do something to get my marriage back she thought as she walked up the stairs, and fast she thought as she noticed the bed was made it appeared she wasn’t the only who hadn’t slept in their bed last night.
Sighing she continued on into the bathroom.

‘Can I knock mummy?’ Parker asked as he and Liz approached Max’s door.
Parker had been so excited to see Max and Liz had been keen to get an early start on the road that she had decided to get straight up and head over. She knew Max would be expecting them and she suspected he would have breakfast waiting and if not she would just pick up some on the road. She had decided to head back to Las Cruses for a couple of days and maybe try and tie up some loose ends and let Parker say good bye to some friends.
Michael had been the day before and packed up most of their belongings they would be delivered sometime today so he had agreed to organize some storage until they decided where they were going to live. It had been mutually decided that they wouldn’t share a place any longer. Liz wanted to buy a house so that Parker could have a back yard to play in and maybe get a dog, she was going to put some roots down in Roswell she had the money after all. Michael didn’t know what he was going to do.
It was also a good chance for Liz to get her thoughts in order. She hadn’t told anyone that she had her memory back yet not even her son. She intended on doing that whilst they were away she didn’t think Parker would really understand though. She was nervous about seeing Max again after last night and this morning she didn’t know how he was going to act and she didn’t have a clue how she was supposed to act now she just had to hope she didn’t have to face Maria.
Liz gave Parker the go ahead to knock on the door but before he got the chance Max opened the door with a big smile.

A/N: Hey everyone well I'm back because I just couldn't resist your pleas, I knew that part would be enjoyed for a few reasons. Mainly because of Parker putting Maria in her place and because now we all know that Maria cant seduce Max to trick her.
A few of you have asked the same question so I decided to just answer the questions in general.
1. I know some of you think that Parker is a brat but spare a thought for the fact that he's a little confused. Everything that he knows (alien heritage) is that his Daddy should love his Mummy and they should be together. The whole situation with Maria is confusing which is why he's acting out. Kind of like some kids do when there parents get divorced. Parker is however taking it out on the problem.. Maria!!
2. Maria does not know about Max and Liz's night together.
3. Yes Parker knows a lot but I cant reveal how just yet.
4. No Max and Liz did not use protection when they were together!.
Finally... I have quite a bit of this fic written lol so don't worry about me stopping suddenly because I don't have a part written. Sometimes though I run out of time and I don't get the chance to post because I don't have the time to respond to fb the way I want. I will try not to leave you hanging though.

Also, Max has never had any reason to connect with Maria but mainly because he doesn't feel for Maria the way he does for Liz opening himself up enough to form a connection is impossible.

Part 16
It was a very quiet breakfast table that morning at the Evans. Instead of answering Parker’s question Liz had changed the subject and told him to finish setting the table, once again having to point out to him that he needed to set the table for four not just three.
‘So what brings you by so early this morning Liz?’ Maria asked curious to why she was once again having breakfast at their house.
‘Oh Parker and I are heading to Las Cruses today and he wanted to see Max before we left’ she told her sweetly.
Now that Liz had her memories back Maria’s behavior was harder and harder to stomach. What had happened to turn her into such a bitch? She wondered.
‘So what has you up so early that you care Maria?’ she asked her unable to contain the hostility she was feeling towards the blonde any longer. Maria was shocked at the response as was Max.
‘Well this is my house’ she said smuggly.
‘Yeah believe me you can tell’ she huffed.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ Maria asked dropping her fork.
‘You know what don’t worry about it’ Liz said also dropping her fork before turning to Max. ‘Thank you for breakfast but we should hit the road. I’ll ring you tonight so you can speak to Parker’ she said and then stood up.
‘Are you going to let her speak to me that way in our home?’ Maria turned to Max then.
Max sighed and dropped his fork as well, Parker was watching everything with wide eyes while he continued to eat his pancakes. This morning hadn’t turned out the way Max had wanted. He hadn’t wanted Maria there and he certainly was shocked that Liz was vocalizing her dislike of Maria’s behavior.
‘You started it’ Max replied looking straight at his wife his disapproval clear on his face.
‘Come on Parker say bye to your Dad and we’ll get on the road’ Liz told her son.
Parker got up from his seat and walked around to Max ‘So my sisters will come soon?’ he asked again. He wanted someone to answer his question.
‘No Parker your sisters aren’t coming at all’ Maria snapped then.
Parker’s eyes immediately filled with tears. Not because Maria snapped at him but because he really wanted his sisters now that he had seen them.
‘Daddy?’ he questioned looking up at him with tear filled eyes that mirrored his own.
‘Maria’ Max roared.
‘But, but Daddy they said they would come soon’ he cried. Liz got up and approached her son. She wanted to pull him into her arms but his words had caused her to think. Could she be pregnant after last night, obviously Max heard her thoughts as well because he looked up at her with a small smile.
‘What Max?’ Maria yelled ‘You think it’s good to let him believe that you and Liz are getting back together and going to give him the sister he wants? Liz doesn’t even remember us!’ she yelled. ‘I just found out this morning I can’t have kids with my husband what about me Max?’ she cried sadly.
Max made no move to go to her though he couldn’t his body wouldn’t even allow it ‘it doesn’t matter Maria because I already told you I didn’t want kids’ he replied.
‘Yeah but now you have a son’ she yelled gesturing to Parker.
‘Yes I do and I love him to bits’ he told her honestly.
‘Oh so I get it it’s not that you never wanted kids it’s that you only want Liz’s kids?’ she asked devastated.
Max didn’t need to answer though it was clear that she had hit the nail on the head by the look on his face.
Liz took hold of Parker then and lifted him into her arms where he continued to cry softly she didn’t want him to be around this type of environment any longer and she didn’t either.
‘We’ll talk tonight’ Liz said quietly before quickly leaving the room.
Maria wasn’t going to let everything go that easily though and quickly turned and followed Liz out of the room catching her as she was just about to walk out of the house.
‘No Liz your not going anywhere. I came to you as a friend, as your best friend and begged you to back off to leave my husband alone and you couldn’t even do me one little favor’ she yelled.
‘Don’t you dare yell in front of my son’ Liz demanded then. Her tone was high but it left a clear message that the order should be followed.
‘You cant run away now’ Maria told her ‘Stay and face the problems you started’ she demanded. Liz thought about what she said she knew she wasn’t running away she was simply taking the time to sort everything out but maybe she didn’t really need to do that. She knew what she wanted and maybe it was time she took it since it seemed to have become Maria’s motto. Liz figured that maybe what was good for the goose was now just as good for the gander. She also didn’t appreciate Maria blaming her or saying she had started these problems it was clear there were a hell of a lot of problems before she came back into the picture.
Max walked into the room then he had caught the last part of Maria’s words and wondered what she was talking about.
‘Can you call Michael please and ask him to come and pick up Parker?’ Liz asked Max when she noticed he had walked into the room.
Max nodded. Whether he was ready or not he knew his life was about to change one way or another forever.

10 minutes later Michael arrived to pick Parker up.
‘Hey’ he said as Liz walked outside and put a sleeping Parker in the car. Michael immediately noticed the tear tracks on the smalls boys eyes and looked up at her with a questioning gaze.
‘Maria upset him’ she replied.
‘I’ll fucking kill her’ he grumbled.
‘Don’t worry I’m about to do that’ Liz replied.
‘Listen I wasn’t going to tell you until I got home but since we’re not going anywhere at the moment I wanted to tell you something’ she said then.
‘Yeah me too I’ve got a surprise for you’ he told her excitedly.
‘Ok?’
‘I found you the perfect house. It’s in Murray Lane near Iz and Alex as well as the Evan’s so you’ll never have a problem getting a sitter for Parker’ Liz remembered the street and smiled it was a great place to raise her child.
‘It’s for sale but the realtor is trying to rent it until he sells it so you can move in straight away and if you like it then buy it’ he smiled proud of himself, he had been doing his best to try and mend the small rift that had appeared in his friendship with Liz since her return to Roswell. Liz and Parker were his family, the only family he had now and he didn’t want to loose them.
‘Thank you’ Liz smiled leaning in to give him a hug which he returned.
‘You want me to start moving you in?’ he asked her.
‘Yes please’ she smiled she trusted his judgment and knew that house would be fantastic.
‘so what did you want to tell me?’
‘Oh if I find out that you’ve ever read my journal again I’m gonna tell Max on you space boy’ she smiled hoping he would pick up on her calling him the old pet name.
‘oh ok’ he said and turned to walk away ‘WHAT!’ he gasped.
‘Where the hell did you hear that?’ he demanded a little angry that Maria might have told her.
Liz just smiled.
‘You remember?’ he asked then.
‘Yep the whole 18 years’ she replied.
‘Oh god Liz’ she said before pulling her back into a hug.
‘Are you ok?’ he asked concerned. He had expected her to be a little more upset about the whole Maria and Max situation.
‘Yeah. I think it was better that I met them and found out what I did before I remembered’ she shrugged.
‘Do they know?’ he asked.
‘No you’re the first person I’ve told but I have a feeling it’s all going to come out soon’

Part 16
It was a very quiet breakfast table that morning at the Evans. Instead of answering Parker’s question Liz had changed the subject and told him to finish setting the table, once again having to point out to him that he needed to set the table for four not just three.
‘So what brings you by so early this morning Liz?’ Maria asked curious to why she was once again having breakfast at their house.
‘Oh Parker and I are heading to Las Cruses today and he wanted to see Max before we left’ she told her sweetly.
Now that Liz had her memories back Maria’s behavior was harder and harder to stomach. What had happened to turn her into such a bitch? She wondered.
‘So what has you up so early that you care Maria?’ she asked her unable to contain the hostility she was feeling towards the blonde any longer. Maria was shocked at the response as was Max.
‘Well this is my house’ she said smuggly.
‘Yeah believe me you can tell’ she huffed.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ Maria asked dropping her fork.
‘You know what don’t worry about it’ Liz said also dropping her fork before turning to Max. ‘Thank you for breakfast but we should hit the road. I’ll ring you tonight so you can speak to Parker’ she said and then stood up.
‘Are you going to let her speak to me that way in our home?’ Maria turned to Max then.
Max sighed and dropped his fork as well, Parker was watching everything with wide eyes while he continued to eat his pancakes. This morning hadn’t turned out the way Max had wanted. He hadn’t wanted Maria there and he certainly was shocked that Liz was vocalizing her dislike of Maria’s behavior.
‘You started it’ Max replied looking straight at his wife his disapproval clear on his face.
‘Come on Parker say bye to your Dad and we’ll get on the road’ Liz told her son.
Parker got up from his seat and walked around to Max ‘So my sisters will come soon?’ he asked again. He wanted someone to answer his question.
‘No Parker your sisters aren’t coming at all’ Maria snapped then.
Parker’s eyes immediately filled with tears. Not because Maria snapped at him but because he really wanted his sisters now that he had seen them.
‘Daddy?’ he questioned looking up at him with tear filled eyes that mirrored his own.
‘Maria’ Max roared.
‘But, but Daddy they said they would come soon’ he cried. Liz got up and approached her son. She wanted to pull him into her arms but his words had caused her to think. Could she be pregnant after last night, obviously Max heard her thoughts as well because he looked up at her with a small smile.
‘What Max?’ Maria yelled ‘You think it’s good to let him believe that you and Liz are getting back together and going to give him the sister he wants? Liz doesn’t even remember us!’ she yelled. ‘I just found out this morning I can’t have kids with my husband what about me Max?’ she cried sadly.
Max made no move to go to her though he couldn’t his body wouldn’t even allow it ‘it doesn’t matter Maria because I already told you I didn’t want kids’ he replied.
‘Yeah but now you have a son’ she yelled gesturing to Parker.
‘Yes I do and I love him to bits’ he told her honestly.
‘Oh so I get it it’s not that you never wanted kids it’s that you only want Liz’s kids?’ she asked devastated.
Max didn’t need to answer though it was clear that she had hit the nail on the head by the look on his face.
Liz took hold of Parker then and lifted him into her arms where he continued to cry softly she didn’t want him to be around this type of environment any longer and she didn’t either.
‘We’ll talk tonight’ Liz said quietly before quickly leaving the room.
Maria wasn’t going to let everything go that easily though and quickly turned and followed Liz out of the room catching her as she was just about to walk out of the house.
‘No Liz your not going anywhere. I came to you as a friend, as your best friend and begged you to back off to leave my husband alone and you couldn’t even do me one little favor’ she yelled.
‘Don’t you dare yell in front of my son’ Liz demanded then. Her tone was high but it left a clear message that the order should be followed.
‘You cant run away now’ Maria told her ‘Stay and face the problems you started’ she demanded. Liz thought about what she said she knew she wasn’t running away she was simply taking the time to sort everything out but maybe she didn’t really need to do that. She knew what she wanted and maybe it was time she took it since it seemed to have become Maria’s motto. Liz figured that maybe what was good for the goose was now just as good for the gander. She also didn’t appreciate Maria blaming her or saying she had started these problems it was clear there were a hell of a lot of problems before she came back into the picture.
Max walked into the room then he had caught the last part of Maria’s words and wondered what she was talking about.
‘Can you call Michael please and ask him to come and pick up Parker?’ Liz asked Max when she noticed he had walked into the room.
Max nodded. Whether he was ready or not he knew his life was about to change one way or another forever.

10 minutes later Michael arrived to pick Parker up.
‘Hey’ he said as Liz walked outside and put a sleeping Parker in the car. Michael immediately noticed the tear tracks on the smalls boys eyes and looked up at her with a questioning gaze.
‘Maria upset him’ she replied.
‘I’ll fucking kill her’ he grumbled.
‘Don’t worry I’m about to do that’ Liz replied.
‘Listen I wasn’t going to tell you until I got home but since we’re not going anywhere at the moment I wanted to tell you something’ she said then.
‘Yeah me too I’ve got a surprise for you’ he told her excitedly.
‘Ok?’
‘I found you the perfect house. It’s in Murray Lane near Iz and Alex as well as the Evan’s so you’ll never have a problem getting a sitter for Parker’ Liz remembered the street and smiled it was a great place to raise her child.
‘It’s for sale but the realtor is trying to rent it until he sells it so you can move in straight away and if you like it then buy it’ he smiled proud of himself, he had been doing his best to try and mend the small rift that had appeared in his friendship with Liz since her return to Roswell. Liz and Parker were his family, the only family he had now and he didn’t want to loose them.
‘Thank you’ Liz smiled leaning in to give him a hug which he returned.
‘You want me to start moving you in?’ he asked her.
‘Yes please’ she smiled she trusted his judgment and knew that house would be fantastic.
‘so what did you want to tell me?’
‘Oh if I find out that you’ve ever read my journal again I’m gonna tell Max on you space boy’ she smiled hoping he would pick up on her calling him the old pet name.
‘oh ok’ he said and turned to walk away ‘WHAT!’ he gasped.
‘Where the hell did you hear that?’ he demanded a little angry that Maria might have told her.
Liz just smiled.
‘You remember?’ he asked then.
‘Yep the whole 18 years’ she replied.
‘Oh god Liz’ she said before pulling her back into a hug.
‘Are you ok?’ he asked concerned. He had expected her to be a little more upset about the whole Maria and Max situation.
‘Yeah. I think it was better that I met them and found out what I did before I remembered’ she shrugged.
‘Do they know?’ he asked.
‘No you’re the first person I’ve told but I have a feeling it’s all going to come out soon’

When Michael left Liz returned inside, she found Max cleaning up the kitchen and she wasn’t sure where Maria was but before she returned Liz thought she would take the opportunity to talk to Max.
‘Hey’ she said.
Max turned around at the sound of her voice ‘Did Michael get Parker ok?’ he asked a little annoyed. He didn’t like it how well Michael got on with his son or how Liz turned to Michael for everything.
‘Don’t be like that’ she smiled hearing his thoughts very clear ‘what he did, keeping me from Roswell was wrong but now you know how he feels since you stole his girlfriend’
‘I didn’t steel her he abandoned her’ Max cried trying to defend himself.
‘No he didn’t’ Liz replied through gritted teeth.
Maria walked into the kitchen then and noticed the look between the two of them it looked as though neither was willing to back down about something and she was a little happy about it.
‘What’s going on?’ she asked.
‘I was just telling Max about how Michael didn’t abandon you all those years ago’ Liz replied sarcastically her eyes never leaving Max’s
‘What happened between me and Michael is none of your business Liz and you weren’t around so you have no idea what happened’ Maria replied she didn’t like the sound of this or where it could potentially go it seemed as though Liz knew a lot more about it than she had thought.
‘Well that’s where your mistaken Maria’ Liz said ‘because it was MY life that was affected because of your actions towards Michael and Max and it’s MY life and Parkers life that is affected now’
‘What are you talking about Liz?’ Max asked.
‘Michael never told you where I was because he was concerned about Parker and I. He knew that if I ever got my memory back we would be hurt because of this arrangement you have with Maria and he was right’ she replied sadly because it did hurt, it hurt like hell actually. Liz knew that if Max had moved on with someone she could have been happy for him, she never would have expected him to remain alone but the fact that he married her one time best friend was another thing all together.
Liz turned to face Maria then her face set.
‘Firstly, Maria I know I speak for both Max and I when I say this to you so listen to me very carefully. If you ever speak to my son again the way you did this morning I will rip you a new part. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?’ she snapped angrily. It was very clear that she was deadly serious and even Max was frightened by the look in her eye it seemed protecting your child did cause you to do uncharacteristic things, but she was right he did completely agree with her, Maria had been out of line this morning..
Maria nodded. She knew Liz was right about one thing the way she had treated Parker this morning wasn’t fair and it wasn’t nice, this whole situation with Liz and Parker was turning her into someone she didn’t like and it needed to stop. Max needed the line drawn for him so he wouldn’t continue crossing over it and so that both Liz and Parker would respect that they were married.
‘Now secondly I wont put up with your bad mouthing of Michael any longer Max’ she turned to Max then. Liz had had enough. When she didn’t remember her patience over all their behaviors was wearing thin but now she remembered it was even worse they were all behaving like 5 year olds.
‘I’m not sure what your loving wife here has told you’ she said sarcastically ‘but Michael did not abandon Maria he left because she broke up with him because she had fallen in love with someone else. I’ll give you 3 guesses as to who that person is Max’ she continued.
Max’s mouth fell open in shock. No that’s not what happened he thought. I remember I took her in because she had no one else and nothing else and then she thought that she could be pregnant. In the end she wasn’t but by that stage she had claimed to have fallen in love with him.
Max turned to face Maria and then and it was clear by the pale shocked look on her face that everything Liz had said was true.
‘Is that what happened?’ he asked.
Maria didn’t answer though, what was she supposed to say she never dreamt in a million years that Michael would ever come back or that Max would ever find out the truth.
‘Is that the truth?’ Max yelled at her.
‘Yes I broke up with him because I fell in love with you, he picked up and moved the next day and I decided that it was best for every one if I didn’t say anything’ she cried to her husband. ‘You never would have given me the chance if you had known what really happened’
Max was silent as he turned his back on her he didn’t know what to say. They were in this terrible situation today because she had lied. Max didn’t love her and he never had he had only married her to keep her safe and happy like he had thought Liz would have wanted.
‘I cant believe you’ he whispered before stalking out of the room, seconds later Liz and Maria heard the sound of the front door slamming and it was clear that he had left and wouldn’t be back anytime soon.
‘Why would you do that?’ Maria turned teary eyes on Liz.
‘Because Michael doesn’t deserve to be treated like that bad guy when you’re just as guilty’ Liz replied.
‘What do you care you don’t remember and you have Michael anyway stop being so selfish’ she yelled.
‘Me selfish? You’re kidding me right?’ Liz scoffed.
‘Michael Guerin worshiped the god damn ground you walked on and you turned around and did the one thing that scared him the most, rejected him for someone who he’s always thought was better than him. Because he never believed that he was good enough for you. When did you turn into such a heartless bitch?’
‘What would you know Liz you’ve known the guy for 2 years I’ve known him my entire life and I dated him for 6 years he’s not the saint he’ll have you believe’ Maria replied angrily the fact was Liz had hit a nerve with her words it appeared she knew Michael better than she ever had. Would all the guys in her life always love Liz more than her? She wondered sadly.
‘So what was it about Max that was so much better?’ Liz asked then she was curious as to what made her best friend fall for her soul mate. Sure she knew why she loved Max but she needed to know why Maria thought she did and most importantly she wanted to know if her best friend had always harbored these kind of feelings for him.
‘Max is the most caring and sensitive guy, he was there for me when we thought you died even though he was going through his own grief. He was everything that Michael wasn’t’ she answered then.
‘Oh so what you really love about him then is the fact that’s he romantic always doing little things to show the person he loves how much they mean to him. That he takes care of the women he loves, doing everything in his power to protect them and keep them safe even at the expense of his own happiness that kind of thing?’ she asked.
‘Yes!’ Maria exclaimed but then she thought back at her two year relationship with Max and she realised that there had never been any of that kind of romance between them.
‘Oh so now I get it you love Max because of the way he loves me’ she shrugged as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
‘Wait a second how did you know all of that stuff?’ Maria looked at her suspiciously.
Liz didn’t answer though she just looked at her best friend with knowing eyes.
‘You, you remember?’ she asked quietly dreading the answer.
‘ A couple of days ago you came to me and asked me was I here to steal your husband and I told you no’ Liz said ignoring the question. ‘You asked me to give up knowing my old life and experiencing the love and friendship I knew and most importantly you asked me to walk away from Max’
Maria looked at Liz with wide eyes she wasn’t sure where she was going with this.
‘So now I want to fucking know, how someone who claimed to be my best friend who I loved like a fucking sister could ask me to do that’ she screamed.
Maria started to cry then, it was a combination of things the fact that her best friend was really back, guilt for what she had done but most of all fear as to what Liz was going to say.
‘You’ve been gone for 8 years Liz’ she cried ‘I love you too but I love Max more’ she continued.
Liz thought about what she said. ‘we always swore a man would never come between us’ she sighed sadly she couldn’t believe that after 18 years of friendship that this is what their friendship had all come down too.
‘Only if you let it’ she replied.
Liz laughed at that ‘oh I get it we can be best friends again as long as I stay away from Max?’ she asked.
‘He’s my husband Liz we love each other and I know that’s going to be hard for you to accept but wont you try?’ she cried.
‘The answer to the questions you asked me the other day is Yes’ Liz said then never taking her eyes off the blonde.
‘What question?’ Maria asked confused.
‘You asked me was I here to steal your husband and you asked me to stay away from him’ she said.
Maria sighed in relief then thinking that Liz was going to back off.
‘You’ve got something that belongs to me Maria and you got it for all the wrong reasons’ she started.
‘Liz talk in English’ Maria snapped.
‘I wont walk away from him Maria. He gave his heart and soul to me and I’m never giving it back. I will not give him up with out a fight so the answer to your question is yes. Yes now that I remember my life, my soul mate, the love the two of us shared I am here to steal your husband. So the question I have for you Maria is are you going to give me back what belongs to me? Are you willing to loose our friendship over a man? I’ve already lost 8 years of my life with him I don’t want to waste a second longer’ Liz told her.

Max didn’t know what drew him to the Crashdown but he suspected it was knowing that was where his son was there. He walked up the stairs and knocked on the external door for the apartment expecting Michael to open it.
He did a couple of seconds later.
‘What’s up?’ Michael asked. He was surprised to find his once best friend standing outside of the apartment.
‘I, I’ he couldn’t look at Michael he felt like shit he couldn’t believe what he had done to his best friend.
‘I’m sorry’ he cried before breaking down right in front of his best friend.
Michael didn’t know why but he felt for the guy right now he wasn’t sure what he was apologizing for but he wanted to find out so he helped him in the apartment and to take a seat on the couch in the Parkers apartment.
Michael sat back and just waited, he had all the time in the world.
‘I’m sorry’ he said again looking up at his one time friend.
‘About?’ Michael prompted.
‘She told me you broke up with her’ he said and that’s all he needed to say for Michael to understand what he was talking about.
‘Doesn’t change a thing’ Michael grumbled.
‘There’s more’ Max said causing Michael’s head to snap up.
‘There was a note I thought it was from you’ he whispered.
‘What note?’ Michael asked with a raised eyebrow. He watched as Max reached into his jean pocket and pulled out a tattered note that looked like it had been folded and refolded a thousand times.
Max,
I can’t stay any longer. Promise me that you will do whatever you have to, to make sure she’s happy.
Michael.
Michael read the letter and then looked up at Max again ‘I didn’t write this where did you get it?’
‘It was in Liz’s room on her desk. I found it a few weeks after you left’ he replied. I thought you left it there because you knew I would find it.’ He explained.
‘So what you read the letter and decided to act on it?’ Michael asked, his anger had dimmed but it was still there.
‘No’ Max shook his head ‘I never wanted this Michael I still don’t’ he told him. ‘All I ever wanted was to be with Liz forever’ he cried.
‘Do you love her?’ Michael asked.
Max hesitated for almost a second he hated having to admit it ‘No’ he whispered. ‘Not like that’
‘Then why?’ he cried.
‘She wouldn’t take no for an answer and about 3 months after you left she thought that she was pregnant. I couldn’t let her be in it alone so I promised that I’d take care of her. It was a false alarm but by that stage she claimed she was in love with me. I just wanted to do what I thought both you and Liz would have wanted me to do’
Michael nodded. ‘You didn’t have to marry her’ he said then.
‘Don’t you think I know that. Don’t you think I hate the fact that I lie to her everyday about where I am and why I don’t sleep beside her. That I have get myself drunk to allow myself to sleep with her that every time she says she loves me I don’t say it back’ he cried. ‘I made the biggest mistake of my life but I thought it was what Liz would have wanted she always made me promise that if anything ever happened I would make sure she was happy.’ he broke down again then and cried like a baby until Parker came into the room and climbed into his fathers arms.
Michael left them on the lounge and went to get some air himself he had a lot to think about.

Maria had no idea what to say to her one time best friend as she stood in front of her telling her that she planned on taking her husband.
‘Confident much?’ she asked sarcastically. It was the only way she could think to cover the fear.
‘It’s not confidence Maria’ Liz sighed. ‘I’m being honest with you. Three days ago I was prepared to walk away and you expected me too, now I ask you can you do the same and you cant even answer me’
‘What do you expect me to say. Yes I realise that you have missed out on 8 years but things change Liz and now Max and I are together’ she replied exasperated.
‘things haven’t changed that much Maria except for the fact that you’re living in denial’ Liz replied.
‘Denial!. Take a look around Liz we have a home together and he’s here with me where he chooses to be’ she argued
‘I’m not going to need to lie to Max to get him back Maria the truth is I know Max better than he knows himself and I know he’ll come to me. I’m not doing this to hurt you despite what you think. I loved you like a sister and maybe things would have been different if you hadn’t treated me like an enemy the minute I came back to Roswell and maybe I could have walked away if I thought Max was happy’ she shrugged.
‘He is happy Liz’ she exclaimed.
‘If you think that Maria than your more delusional than I thought’ Liz replied sadly. When all was said and done someone was going to get hurt ‘You see we have two situations here Maria. One is that he stays with you and you’re happy while Max, Parker and I are miserable and the second is that he leaves you and we’re happy together and your miserable. Either way someone’s going to loose and I’ll take the 3 to 1 odds anytime’
‘You bitch’ she spat ‘Leave my husband alone don’t use your bastard child to steal him because you can’t do it on your own’ she yelled.
Liz snapped then the minute she spoke that way about her son she had crossed the line ‘You seem to forget that I’m Max’s wife, his Queen and the only women that will ever bare his children so in everyway that counts it would seem I’m already his wife Maria and Parker will always be his son, his first son so don’t you dare ever call my son that again’ she spat angrily.

Michael returned to the apartment half an hour later and found that Max and Parker had woken and was sitting quietly talking. Michael couldn’t ever remember seeing the boy as happy as he was right now and he knew even if he wanted to hate Max for what he had done in all honesty he did what Michael would have wanted him to do had the situation been different.
‘Hey’ Max looked up at him when he walked back into the room.
‘Hey. Listen you should take your son and head back to your place. Liz has something to tell you and it shouldn’t wait any longer’ he told him.
Max was a little curious but he could tell that by the tone in Michaels voice that he wasn’t going to say anymore.
‘I’m gonna start moving Liz and Parker into their knew home anyway’ he shrugged.
‘They found somewhere?’ Max asked surprised. Liz hadn’t mentioned anything.
‘Yeah I found them a place next door to Iz and Alex’ Michael laughed.
‘But that place is for sale’ Max replied.
‘Yeah I know but the realtor agreed to rent it to Liz and that way is she likes it she can buy it if not then she can stay there till she finds somewhere else’ he explained.
‘Thanks for taking care of them Michael’ Max whispered then.
Michael nodded he didn’t need to be thanked the truth is he didn’t deserve it. If he had brought Liz home when he found her Max would never have married Maria in true Michael form he had jumped the gun when he returned 2 years ago and now they were all paying the price.

‘Look this is getting us nowhere’ Maria sighed
‘Your right I should have remembered that there never was reasoning with you Maria when you wanted something’ Liz replied angrily. ‘I’m leaving’ she informed her and then picked up the keys to the bike and headed out of the house.
Max and Parker opened the door to the house at the same time Liz was pulling it open causing Liz to fall onto her back.
‘Mummy’ Parker squealed.
‘Liz’ Max called out both men rushing to help her up.
‘Hey’ Liz smiled at her son ‘What are you doing here I thought you were with Uncle Michael?’ she asked.
‘Yeah I was then Daddy came to visit it was cool’ he told his mum.
‘Liz can we talk?’ Max turned to her then. God she was beautiful he thought. He had so much he wanted to say to her to explain to her, to share with her. Last night had meant so much to him and he prayed that she felt the same, he just wanted the chance to ask her now.
‘Yeah we can’ Liz replied with a smile. Max reached out to take her hand caressing it softly with his own and was just about to lead her upstairs to the spare room when his beeper went off loudly.
‘What’s that Daddy?’ Parker asked.
‘Oh’ Max said looking down and then back up at Liz regretfully ‘It’s my pager something big must have come up at the hospital’ he explained when he saw the 911 call.
Liz sighed she wanted desperately to have the chance to tell him she was back that she remembered and to have him take her back into arms like he had when they were younger but she knew how important his job was. Her and Parker weren’t going anywhere and a day or two wouldn’t matter in the scheme of things.
‘That’s ok’ she smiled ‘you go do what you need to and then come find me when you’re ready’ the words had a double meaning though and Max realized that right away. It was her way of saying she would be waiting for him but wouldn’t make him come right now. He wanted to though, he didn’t want to waste a second being away from her again.

Three days later Max finally had the time to sit down and think about things. He had left straight for the hospital when he left Liz and Parker at the house and he hadn’t had a minute to sit down since. He’d spent 12 hours straight in the operating theatre trying to save a little girl who had been in a horrific accident with her parents and older brother and sister on 285. It had been give and take for a while but he was finally happy enough with her condition that he could leave her bedside.
He walked into the office and found his friend and boss, John Harris sitting there looking exhausted as he felt.
‘Max’ John greeted.
‘Hey John’ he smiled back before falling into the spare chair in the office.
‘How was your holiday?’ he asked raising his eyebrows suggestively. Max wanted to groan it appeared everyone new about the dirty holiday Maria had planned but him.
‘That good hey?’ John asked when he saw Max’s reaction.
‘Actually I was wondering if I could get another few weeks?’ he asked then. He had been thinking about it while he sat there watching over the little girl Allie.
John rubbed the back of his neck thinking about it. It could be done they had the staff but normally he had to force Max to take time off.
‘Sure, finish your rotation and you can start then. Is everything ok?’ he responded.
Max sat there thinking about the question he considered John a friend, a good friend ‘No it’s not I have some personal things going on that I need to sort out’ he explained.
‘Want to talk about it?’ John asked his friend concerned. He thought a lot of Max and his wife was a friend of Maria’s as well.
‘Do you remember ever hearing about Liz Parker?’ he asked
‘Yeah she’s Jeff and Nancy’s girl from the Crashdown right, disappeared without a trace’
‘Yeah well she was my girlfriend at the time, I was going to ask her to marry me. She showed up a week ago with my son’ he told him.
‘Wow’
‘Yeah’ Max said.
‘So what happened to her?’ he asked curiously.
‘She got hit by a car and lost her memory turned up a week ago coincidently and I treated her in the ER’ he sighed as he ran a hand through his head.
‘So what are you going to do in your time off?’ He asked Max then.
Max looked up at John guiltily then, his face telling the story.
John nodded. He liked Maria but he knew that she wasn’t the love of Max’s life.
‘She doesn’t know yet so if you could keep it to yourself I’d appreciate it’ he finished then.
‘Sure’ he nodded as Max stood up ‘and Max take as much time as you need’ he told him as he watched sadly as the young man walked out of his office.

‘Hey’ he heard someone greet him while he sat with his head in his hands in the nurses station. He looked up and found Maria standing there in her uniform with a small smile, it should have been welcomed with the way he felt right now but it wasn’t plus he was still angry with her over all her lies.
He looked up at her. ‘Long 3 days?’ she asked taking a seat beside him.
‘You could say that’ he replied.
‘I came by looking for you before I thought I’d have my break with you but I couldn’t find you anywhere’ she said then ‘I have to get back to my shift now but I’ll see you tomorrow when your rotation finishes right?’ she asked him.
‘Sure’ he replied
‘Ok’ Maria sighed dejectedly. It wasn’t unusual for him to be like this after what he’d been dealing with but something told her that there was more to it this time, that maybe it hit him harder because he was a father now and that pained her because it wasn’t their child he was thinking about and it never would be. ‘Bye sweetie’ she said bending down and attempted to kiss him the top of his head but he flinched away from her so she sadly turned and walked away.
Max didn’t look up again he couldn’t watch her walking away because it would be too hard right now. When he finally did look up he saw the phone and made a quick decision.
‘Hello’ her angelic voice answered.
‘Hey’ he replied.
She was quiet for a moment ‘You ok?’
‘It’s been a long 3 days’ he replied.
‘You want to speak to Parker?’ she asked.
‘Yeah in a minute, just needed to hear your voice’ he told her.
‘Well how about I do you one better’ she said ‘Parker and I will be there in 10 minutes will you have time to see us?’
‘God yes’ he sighed how did she know exactly what he needed and wanted when half the time he didn’t even know how to explain it.
‘Ok I’ll see you soon’ she told him before ending the call.

10 minutes later Liz and Parker walked hand in hand down the corridor and found Max sitting in the same spot he was in when he called them.
He felt her coming and looked up when she stopped in front of him. God she was breath taking her hair was out the way he loved, she hand worn it like that very often since she returned and she was wearing a red top which made her look more like the girl she was 8 years ago.
‘Hey’ she smiled.
“hey’ he replied with a smile before turning his attention to his son.
‘Hey mate’
‘Hi Daddy’ the little boy smiled before moving into his fathers open arms ‘we missed you’ he told him.
‘I missed you too’ he replied his gaze wandering to Liz.
‘How about we sit outside?’ Max suggested. When Liz and Parker agreed they walked out the glass door and into the garden area.
Maria walked through the corridors on her way to take care of some paperwork while it was quiet when something caught her eye outside in the garden. Stopping she watched as her husband and his son played and goofed around while Liz sat on the bench and laughed at them.
‘Oh that’s so sweet’ a lady who had stumbled upon the same scene as Maria commented. She noticed the tears in the young nurses eye and assumed it was envy that she was feeling, or maybe that she had a crush on the Doctor.
‘They look like such a happy family’ she added then.
Maria was hurt, more hurt than she could ever remember being. What were they doing here, this was supposed to be the one place that she had with Max that Liz couldn’t touch. Had he called her and asked her to come or had she just known somehow. She continued to watch as Max walked over and sat down closely, more closely that necessary to Liz whilst Parker continue playing around in the garden. She could tell that they were talking and she wondered what about. Was he telling her about his last 3 days? Or were they talking about Parker?.
‘Maria?’ she heard someone call out and she looked down the corridor and saw John. Turning away she quickly wiped the tears that had fallen down her eyes, she wasn’t quick enough though John had already seen them and when he looked out the window and saw Max with the beautiful brunette and the small boy who looked so much like his father John knew.
‘Hi John’ she tried to smile.
‘What brings you out of baby heaven?’ he smiled trying to lighten the mood. They both began walking then not wanting to acknowledge the scene they had witnessed to the other.
‘Just an errand’ she supplied ‘I’ll see you later John, the four of us will have to get together for dinner again soon, ok?’ she smiled.
‘Sure’ John replied sadly. He knew there would be no get together if he hadn’t already suspected from his conversation with Max that afternoon he certainly had worked it out from the scene he witnessed in the garden. He had always wondered what had made the young man so sad and now he knew. Max and Liz radiated happiness and love when they were together and it was beautiful.

‘Thank you’ Max said then breaking the silence between him and Liz. Parker was running around catching insects that he could see.
‘You don’t need to thank me’ she smiled back.
‘Yeah I do you knew just what I needed’ he told her.
‘Do you want to talk about it?’ she asked him then.
‘It’s always hard when it’s children you know but knowing that it could be my child in there one day scares the hell out of me’ he told her.
‘Well then it’s a good think that your close by that if anything ever accidentally happened to Parker you’d be there’ she told him.
‘How can you have so much faith in me when you don’t even know me?’ he asked her with a brilliant smile. Liz stiffened at the comment, he doesn’t know yet she reminded herself.
‘Max’ she started but before she had a chance to tell him they were interrupted by a nurse.
‘Dr. Evans?’ she called out.
Max looked at Liz apologetically ‘Yes’ he replied.
‘Allie is waking up and we thought you would want to check on her’ she explained.
‘Yes thank you’ he replied.
The nurse walked back inside then leaving them alone again except for Parker who had come back over to them.
‘What time does your shift end?’ Liz asked him as they walked towards he door.
‘Around 9 tomorrow morning’ he answered.
‘When do you go back on?’ she asked curiously. His hours were strange ‘I don’t normally work this long straight’ he explained.
‘Oh’ she blushed. ‘But I’m actually having more time off’ he explained
‘Really?’
‘Yeah another two weeks at least’ he smiled when he saw that she was happy about this.
‘Maybe I can help you and Parker move into your new house’ he suggested. They were at the exit to the hospital by now.
‘Well that would have been great Max but we already moved in’ she laughed. With her parents and Michaels help they had moved in the day before.
‘Oh’ he said surprised that was certainly quick but then he reminded himself that he had been locked in the hospital for 3 days now.
‘Don’t worry about us Max’ she said then ‘Go home when your shift is over get some sleep and we’ll see you when you can’ she told him.
‘By mate’ Max bent down and kissed the top of his sons head.
‘Bye Daddy’ the little boy grinned.
‘Bye Max’ Liz smiled before taking her sons hands and walking towards the car.
‘Bye sweetie’ he replied. The endearment just slipped off Max’s tongue so easily that he didn’t even realise he used it but Liz heard it and couldn’t help the surge of hope that just maybe they had a chance to be a family after all.

He’d spent 12 hours straight in the operating theatre trying to save a little girl who had been in a horrific accident with her parents and older brother and sister on 285. It had been give and take for a while but he was finally happy enough with her condition that he could leave her bedside.
He walked into the office and found his friend and boss, John Harris sitting there looking exhausted as he felt.
‘Max’ John greeted.
‘Hey John’ he smiled back before falling into the spare chair in the office.
‘How was your holiday?’ he asked raising his eyebrows suggestively. Max wanted to groan it appeared everyone new about the dirty holiday Maria had planned but him.
‘That good hey?’ John asked when he saw Max’s reaction.
‘Actually I was wondering if I could get another few weeks?’ he asked then. He had been thinking about it while he sat there watching over the little girl Allie.
John rubbed the back of his neck thinking about it. It could be done they had the staff but normally he had to force Max to take time off.
‘Sure, finish your rotation and you can start then. Is everything ok?’ he responded.
Max sat there thinking about the question he considered John a friend, a good friend ‘No it’s not I have some personal things going on that I need to sort out’ he explained.
‘Want to talk about it?’ John asked his friend concerned. He thought a lot of Max and his wife was a friend of Maria’s as well.
‘Do you remember ever hearing about Liz Parker?’ he asked
‘Yeah she’s Jeff and Nancy’s girl from the Crashdown right, disappeared without a trace’
‘Yeah well she was my girlfriend at the time, I was going to ask her to marry me. She showed up a week ago with my son’ he told him.
‘Wow’
‘Yeah’ Max said.
‘So what happened to her?’ he asked curiously.
‘She got hit by a car and lost her memory turned up a week ago coincidently and I treated her in the ER’ he sighed as he ran a hand through his head.
‘So what are you going to do in your time off?’ He asked Max then.
Max looked up at John guiltily then, his face telling the story.
John nodded. He liked Maria but he knew that she wasn’t the love of Max’s life.
‘She doesn’t know yet so if you could keep it to yourself I’d appreciate it’ he finished then.
‘Sure’ he nodded as Max stood up ‘and Max take as much time as you need’ he told him as he watched sadly as the young man walked out of his office.

‘Hey’ he heard someone greet him while he sat with his head in his hands in the nurses station. He looked up and found Maria standing there in her uniform with a small smile, it should have been welcomed with the way he felt right now but it wasn’t plus he was still angry with her over all her lies.
He looked up at her. ‘Long 3 days?’ she asked taking a seat beside him.
‘You could say that’ he replied.
‘I came by looking for you before I thought I’d have my break with you but I couldn’t find you anywhere’ she said then ‘I have to get back to my shift now but I’ll see you tomorrow when your rotation finishes right?’ she asked him.
‘Sure’ he replied
‘Ok’ Maria sighed dejectedly. It wasn’t unusual for him to be like this after what he’d been dealing with but something told her that there was more to it this time, that maybe it hit him harder because he was a father now and that pained her because it wasn’t their child he was thinking about and it never would be. ‘Bye sweetie’ she said bending down and attempted to kiss him the top of his head but he flinched away from her so she sadly turned and walked away.
Max didn’t look up again he couldn’t watch her walking away because it would be too hard right now. When he finally did look up he saw the phone and made a quick decision.
‘Hello’ her angelic voice answered.
‘Hey’ he replied.
She was quiet for a moment ‘You ok?’
‘It’s been a long 3 days’ he replied.
‘You want to speak to Parker?’ she asked.
‘Yeah in a minute, just needed to hear your voice’ he told her.
‘Well how about I do you one better’ she said ‘Parker and I will be there in 10 minutes will you have time to see us?’
‘God yes’ he sighed how did she know exactly what he needed and wanted when half the time he didn’t even know how to explain it.
‘Ok I’ll see you soon’ she told him before ending the call.

10 minutes later Liz and Parker walked hand in hand down the corridor and found Max sitting in the same spot he was in when he called them.
He felt her coming and looked up when she stopped in front of him. God she was breath taking her hair was out the way he loved, she hand worn it like that very often since she returned and she was wearing a red top which made her look more like the girl she was 8 years ago.
‘Hey’ she smiled.
“hey’ he replied with a smile before turning his attention to his son.
‘Hey mate’
‘Hi Daddy’ the little boy smiled before moving into his fathers open arms ‘we missed you’ he told him.
‘I missed you too’ he replied his gaze wandering to Liz.
‘How about we sit outside?’ Max suggested. When Liz and Parker agreed they walked out the glass door and into the garden area.
Maria walked through the corridors on her way to take care of some paperwork while it was quiet when something caught her eye outside in the garden. Stopping she watched as her husband and his son played and goofed around while Liz sat on the bench and laughed at them.
‘Oh that’s so sweet’ a lady who had stumbled upon the same scene as Maria commented. She noticed the tears in the young nurses eye and assumed it was envy that she was feeling, or maybe that she had a crush on the Doctor.
‘They look like such a happy family’ she added then.
Maria was hurt, more hurt than she could ever remember being. What were they doing here, this was supposed to be the one place that she had with Max that Liz couldn’t touch. Had he called her and asked her to come or had she just known somehow. She continued to watch as Max walked over and sat down closely, more closely that necessary to Liz whilst Parker continue playing around in the garden. She could tell that they were talking and she wondered what about. Was he telling her about his last 3 days? Or were they talking about Parker?.
‘Maria?’ she heard someone call out and she looked down the corridor and saw John. Turning away she quickly wiped the tears that had fallen down her eyes, she wasn’t quick enough though John had already seen them and when he looked out the window and saw Max with the beautiful brunette and the small boy who looked so much like his father John knew.
‘Hi John’ she tried to smile.
‘What brings you out of baby heaven?’ he smiled trying to lighten the mood. They both began walking then not wanting to acknowledge the scene they had witnessed to the other.
‘Just an errand’ she supplied ‘I’ll see you later John, the four of us will have to get together for dinner again soon, ok?’ she smiled.
‘Sure’ John replied sadly. He knew there would be no get together if he hadn’t already suspected from his conversation with Max that afternoon he certainly had worked it out from the scene he witnessed in the garden. He had always wondered what had made the young man so sad and now he knew. Max and Liz radiated happiness and love when they were together and it was beautiful.

‘Thank you’ Max said then breaking the silence between him and Liz. Parker was running around catching insects that he could see.
‘You don’t need to thank me’ she smiled back.
‘Yeah I do you knew just what I needed’ he told her.
‘Do you want to talk about it?’ she asked him then.
‘It’s always hard when it’s children you know but knowing that it could be my child in there one day scares the hell out of me’ he told her.
‘Well then it’s a good think that your close by that if anything ever accidentally happened to Parker you’d be there’ she told him.
‘How can you have so much faith in me when you don’t even know me?’ he asked her with a brilliant smile. Liz stiffened at the comment, he doesn’t know yet she reminded herself.
‘Max’ she started but before she had a chance to tell him they were interrupted by a nurse.
‘Dr. Evans?’ she called out.
Max looked at Liz apologetically ‘Yes’ he replied.
‘Allie is waking up and we thought you would want to check on her’ she explained.
‘Yes thank you’ he replied.
The nurse walked back inside then leaving them alone again except for Parker who had come back over to them.
‘What time does your shift end?’ Liz asked him as they walked towards he door.
‘Around 9 tomorrow morning’ he answered.
‘When do you go back on?’ she asked curiously. His hours were strange ‘I don’t normally work this long straight’ he explained.
‘Oh’ she blushed. ‘But I’m actually having more time off’ he explained
‘Really?’
‘Yeah another two weeks at least’ he smiled when he saw that she was happy about this.
‘Maybe I can help you and Parker move into your new house’ he suggested. They were at the exit to the hospital by now.
‘Well that would have been great Max but we already moved in’ she laughed. With her parents and Michaels help they had moved in the day before.
‘Oh’ he said surprised that was certainly quick but then he reminded himself that he had been locked in the hospital for 3 days now.
‘Don’t worry about us Max’ she said then ‘Go home when your shift is over get some sleep and we’ll see you when you can’ she told him.
‘By mate’ Max bent down and kissed the top of his sons head.
‘Bye Daddy’ the little boy grinned.
‘Bye Max’ Liz smiled before taking her sons hands and walking towards the car.
‘Bye sweetie’ he replied. The endearment just slipped off Max’s tongue so easily that he didn’t even realise he used it but Liz heard it and couldn’t help the surge of hope that just maybe they had a chance to be a family after all.
