Chapter 10

"Liz, you need us beside you....i need to be with you!" Maria said with tears in her voice, she couldn't stand to see her best friend in pain and not able to help her. "Liz, Max and you should talk, you should listen to what he had to say" she pleaded

"Maria, thank you but it's my problem with Liz" Max was hurt that Liz couldn't even look at him. He wanted to talk to her but not to push her, he knew that he was not her priority. "Liz, how is your mother, we're here to be with you, to help you." he pleaded too.

Liz looked at him, he was her best friend. She trusted him and he was her everything, more than Maria, Max knew about her thoughts, her dreams, more than Maria ever did.....and what has he done? he betrayed her...no she couldn't forgive him.

"Max, you can return to your good friend Tess and fuck her as much as you want but i don't want you around me anymore" she said coldly and without giving more importance she turned round to Maria. She had to apologize, it was not her fault. "Maria, i'm sorry for my behavior earlier. I didn't have to yell on you that way, that's not your fault; i'm sorry" she said with a weak smile. She overreacted when they arrived and she didn't take in account that Maria was here for her, to help her, to be her best friend. All what she saw was Max daring to come here after what he did to her. She glanced at him, he looked devasted but she didn't care anymore, he hurt her too much.

"Maria, you're right, i needed you beside me but, for the moment, i need to be with my mother, i need to be strong beside my father to give her a chance to heal. Don't worry, as soon as she'll be better, i'll call you"
she said trying to sooth her best friend's worries. She couldn't tell her that they were leaving in a week.
Maria pulled her into an embrace "i'll be there when you'll call, just don't make me languish" she said relieved that Liz was going to talk to her.

"ok...Maria, i can't stay too much, my mother needs me by her side, i've to go, i'm sorry"

"I understand, when will you call me?" she said, anxious that her friend could forget.

"I don't really know Maria, don't pressure me, please...i'll do it as soon as the doctor gave us some news, ok?" Liz was not happy to have to lie to her but she had no choice, if she told her that they were leaving Roswell in a week, Maria would be worried, she would want to come and help her...and Liz had no envy to see her for the moment. She took a look at Max, he was still shocked by her words. Her heart was bleeding knowing the pain he did to her, knowing that she won't see him anymore. But it was his choice.
As he was heading to the exit, Maria returned to talk to Liz, she couldn't bother to see her 2 best friends with a wall of misunderstanding.

"Liz, talk to him..he doesn't remember a word of what he said, maybe she drugged him to get him, i don't know...even if you can't forgive him, talk to him" she pleaded.

"Maria, i'm suffering to not talk to my best friend, but it's not you he was laughing at....that was me, and if it was not Kyle, i would stay there hearing much more. No, Maria he has to pay the consequences of his acts and his words, even if he regrets now. It's too late" Liz was overwhelmed by the pain, she was losing her best friend...she was tempted to forgive when she was looking at his defeated face but she straightened herself when she reminded of what she heard at the party.

She pulled Maria in her embrace and held her tight. She knew that she won't see her before long, maybe never, and her heart was suffering for that parting.

i know that i said that i would update once a week, but i wrote a new chapter for this fic and for my 2nd one, so if u don't mind, i've posted it.

Chapter11

When they left, Liz went to her mother's room and sat beside her holding her hands in hers. She couldn't help but thought about Maria and Max visit.
"Liz? something's wrong honey" said Nancy, seeing that her daughter was worried
"No mum, nothing, i was just thinking about something" she didn't want to annoy her mother with her problems, she was sick and all what mattered Liz was her healing.
"We put a lot on your shoulders, honey, i'm sorry. I've turned your life upside down with my sickness, i'd wish everything you planed with your friends could be...i'm sorry honey"

Liz squeezed her hand and kissed her, she didn't want to see her mother worry about her states of mind, and of course, she couldn't tell her what happened lately with her friends, one friend, by the way, and her best friend, the only one she could have say she trusted with her life itself.

"Mom, stop to worry, you haven't turned my life upside down, you're sick and you have to heal. The best place for that is L.A., so we'll go there and i'll attend college there. That's the same for me as long as i find the classes i intended to follow and i'm sure i'll do. You know i won't be upset to go to UCLA, it's a dream but i sent my letter there. So you don't have to worry, i'm fine."

Liz realised that she was telling the truth, she would be happy to go to UCLA. She had planed to attend college with her friends but life decided otherwise, maybe for the best, that's what Liz wanted to believe.

"Liz, what are you doing for the removal, did you ask for Maria and the others to help you? You can't do it alone and i know that you father will be busy with his business. It's not easy for him too!"
"Mom, would you please me and stop thinking about this and that? I handle the situation, don't worry, and i've already managed for the removal" Liz lied, she didn't know where she will find the strength to pack alone since she didn't want to tell her friends about leaving Roswell.
"Ok, i'm sure you managed as well as possible and i'm happy to see that you have friends ready to help you. They weren't disappointed to see you leaving? The group is apart now, with you in L.A." she said still worried for her daughter.
"They know that it's for your sake, your healing...of course they understood" once again, she was lying.
"I'd like to see thank them before we leave, but the doctor said that i'll be leaving from here. Please thank them for me, honey. I'll do it by myself if i come back here later....i hope i would have the chance to come back here....to live some years again" she said sadly.
"Mom, don't talk like this, it's bad for your illness, you have to be optimist, always! That's the only way to win on that cancer...you know that." she said tears leaking in the corner of her eyes.

She turned round cause she didn't want her mother see her tears but she was anxious about her mother's illness, and she didn't want to talk to Maria about it.

When they left the hospital, Max and Maria went to the car silently. Maria was worried about Liz and her mother and Max was hurt, deeply hurt by Liz's attitude. He could understand that she believed what she heard but she didn't allow him to talk. She sentenced him before hearing his explanation.

"Max, give her time...after all, she has been hurt!" Maria said
"I know, but she hasn't given me the possibility to tell her the truth!" he cried out
"Max, be honest, even you you don't know the truth...you said that you didn't sleep with her but you're not sure" Maria said. Even if she tried to defend him with Liz, she didn't know where is the truth and Tess...
"Maria, i couldn't have slept with her! it's impossible! i don't like her! he yelled
"You were drunk...and your sister said that Tess planed to get you if she could lead you to her bathroom, that's where you remember you were...her bathroom. So she could have got you" She said with a disgusting look, she couldn't understand how a smart boy could have been trapped by that whore.
"Maria, if i've slept with her, i would remember it, no?" Max couldn't imagine that he slept with Tess.
"Max, Kyle is not a liar and nor Liz, if you haven't said what you said and done what you did, do you think that Liz would talk to you that way? Max, accept it, you did it, you said it.....i don't know why i'm talking to you actually! I should be angry with you!" she said
"Your intuition Maria, your private conviction...you can't believe that i did it" he said with hope in his voice.

Maria stared at him, he was right, her intution told her that it was impossible that Max could have slept with Tess, she couldn't imagine such a thing from her best friend. And yet, Liz heard and Kyle too.
She hit the weel with force and anger
"I know that Tess is able to scheme something as weird as she is, she's able to play a trick....but Liz heard you...YOU Max, your voice. You can't deny that!" she said harshly.
"I know Maria, and that's what i going to seek....what did she do to me that night" he said dumbfounded, he couldn't believe he had slept with Tess, a girl he don't like at all.

Chapter 12

A week after

Maria came to the Crashdown that morning, seeking for Liz, but she found the diner closed. She turned around to see if the backroom's door was opened....closed too. She dialed Liz's number on her cellular.....no answer! "What the hell! Where is she? and why the Crashdown is closed? I hope nothing bad happened to her mother." she said worried.

She was there wondering when a man came by her "Do you know Mr Parker?" he asked
"Yes, but he doesn't seem here for the moment." she replied sadly "i know that his wife is sick, i hope nothing bad happened. Why are you looking for him?" she asked
"Actually, i'm James Mc Cord, the new owner...he sold me the diner but we agreed to meet here today" he answered.
"You must be wrong, Mister, Mr Parker wouldn't sell his restaurant without telling us, it's impossible...are you sure you bought the Crashdown?" she asked shocked, she couldn't believe that Liz's father had sold his diner, Liz should have told her....."but the Crashdown is closed and Liz seemed to have disappeared of the surface of the earth, what happened?" she thought for herself.
"Of course i've bought it, i'm not a fool! I know what i did, young lady! By the way, who are you?" he asked angryly
"I'm Maria, i'm a waitress at the Crashdown...i used to be a waitress until yesterday.....and i don't understand why Mr Parker didn't say to me that he sold the restaurant? Do you have the keys?" she asked hoping that he didn't have it. She was still shocked and she didn't know what to think about that man. Did Mr Parker really sell his restaurant without telling his employees, she couldn't believe it.
"Yes, Maria, of course i've the keys" he said. In the same time, he opened the door and he came in the restaurant.

Maria stayed outside, dumbfounded, that Mr Mc Cord had the keys and he told her that he was the new owner of the Crashdown....he told the truth, Mr Parker sold the Crashdown and he and his family were nowhere to be found. "I should call the others, maybe they know something that i don't" she dialed Max's number first. She knew that he was lurking around the restaurant trying to talk to Liz but never found a way to do it.
"Hello"
"Max, it's me Maria. Listen, did you know that Mr Parker sold the Crashdown and they left Roswell?" she said almost crying out.
"Maria, stop crying out in my ears! and repeat what you said i didn't understand a word!" he said, a little exasperate
"Max, Mr Parker sold the restaurant and they left" she repeat at the edge of the tears
"What are you talking about? That's impossible,didn't you work there yesterday, i know that they couldn't have sold the diner like this! It's impossible in one day!" Max said wondering if Maria didn't abuse of cedar oil or something else.

Maria, at the edge of the attack of nerves, began to cry, there in the street. She couldn't believe that her best friend left Roswell without telling her and why did she left? why did the Parker left Roswell?

"Maax..snif....they left....Liz, her parents...they left..snif...., please come here, at the Crashdown...please..snif" she said crying
"I'm coming....calm down Maria, i'm sure we found out what happened. Look, can you call the others to see if someone knew something and tell them to come at the Crash" Max said shocked. He couldn't accept that his best friend and her parents disappeared without someone knowing about it.

He went down to the kitchen to talk to his mother, maybe she knew something about the Parker departurure.
"Hi honey, breakfast is ready...." she said with a smile, but when she turned round, she saw her son pale and she worried "Max, what's going on honey?"
"Mom, did you know that the Parker sold the Crashdown and left?" he asked hoping to get an answer from his mother.
"WHAT? NOO! I didn't know...are you sure? she asked stunned
"Maria is at the Crashdown and she told me that...she was crying, mom, i've no reason to not believe her. I'm heading there." he said disappointed, he was hoping that her mother could help him, but she was as shocked as everyone here.
"Liz didn't say anything to any of you? I can't believe it! you are best friends no?" she asked trying to understand the reason why. "Do you think something happened to Nancy? She was at the hospital lately, no" she said.
"I know, but that's not a reason for them to leave the town without a word and i don't understand why they sold the restaurant, even if Mrs Parker was sick....i'm lost mom.." he said devasted.

Max was the most shocked of all of them, he had searched a way to talk to Liz every day of the week, to try to explain to her what happened at that damn party.....and now she was gone he had no idea where and he was there....lost.

Chapter 13

In L.A., Liz and her parents were trying to settle down in their new life. Nancy was at the hospital and after the operation, planned for the day after, she should begin chemo, Jeff had decided to wait for opening a new dinner, his wife needed him beside her and he has enough money to live without working for some months.
And Liz.......Liz was boring but she didn't want to tell to her parents, she knew that her mother needed to have a treatment here in L.A. and for Liz, her mother'health was more important that her states of mind.
Nevertheless, she was thinking about her friends, there in Roswell and tears were flowing on her cheeks. She missed them and she regretted to have left the town without a word. Maria should be worried when she found out that the Crashdown has been sold and they had left. She was sad that she had to lie to her best friend but she had no choice. She didn't want to explain her mother's illness, and the terror they were feeling to see her getting worse.

"Lizzie, what are you doing in the dark" asked Jeff Parker entering in her room. Liz wiped her tears and turned towards him "i was a little tired, Dad, i'd like to rest a while and i came here to lay on my bed and try to sleep." she answered lying. She didn't want her father worry about her, he had enough with her mother.
"Oh, i'm going to see Nancy, i wanted to know if you'd like to come with me but i prefer that you stay here to rest, you'll come later" he said kissing her temple, he felt moisture on her cheeks when he cupped her face.."Lizzie, were you crying? honey, tell me what's wrong, i'll help you!" he asked alarmed. "Are you scared for your mom? Is there a problem you don't want me to know? Liz, we are alone here and i need to know everything about you too. If something's wrong, honey, tell me, together we'll be stronger!"
"No Dad, don't worry, i think it's the pressure i was during the last weeks...it's not about Mom, i'm worried about her but i know that she is in the best hands to heal...It's nothing Dad, i swear." she said squeezing his hand to pull him in her embrace. She didn't want him to stay and ask for more. "Dad, Mom needs you by her side, go and i'll came later by myself." she added.

Jeff looked at her daughter, he knew that they asked a lot from her these last weeks, he knew that she took care of the removal alone even if he didn't want to question her. He didn't question too when she asked him to hide to his employees that he sold the Crashdown, she surely had her reasons and he was too preoccupied by Nancy to care about. But now, seeing her in the dark, crying, he wondered if he wouldn't have paid more attention to his daughter, after all she was only 18 years old, and her life was turned upside down in a few days.
He never asked her about that night, he knew that something happened to her but she refused to talk about it and he respected her will, but like today, he was worried.

"Ok, Liz, i let you rest and join us when you'll feel better, i'm sure your mother will be happy to see you, the operation is planned for tomorrow and even if she doesn't show it, i know that she's scared to death." he said with a sad smile.
"You too, Dad, i mean you're as scared as Mom and it's normal. Don't worry, we're together here and we'll be strong for her. I'm just a little tired but i'll come around 1 hour." she replied "everything will be ok for us here, Dad, i'm sure. And soon, i'll go to UCLA, Mom will feel better and i'm sure you'll be able to seek for the restaurant you want to open here." she added.
"I'm confident too, honey. Now, i'm leaving or else your mother will worry...see you later" he said and with a last kiss on her cheek, he went out her room.

Liz stayed there, thinking "her parents needed her and soon she was attending UCLA.....A new life will begin for them, here in L.A."

Chapter 14

U.N.M. 2months later

"Maria, i don't know what i must do for her to leave me alone, i keep telling her that i'm not interested by her but she doesn't understand. Help me!" Max said desesperate

Since Liz left, Tess didn't stop to harass Max to go out with him. Every day, she was behind him faking to surprise him, with Isabel's help she always comes to his dorm at night, and Isabel always has to excuse herself for her friend to be alone with her brother.
And Max keeps telling her no, but she doesnt take NO as an answer, she was wanting him at all costs and she was making his life like hell to get him.

"Poor Max, you have to hide here from her...You should threat her to call the police if she came tonight." Maria said annoyed for her friend.
"Maybe i should sleep here, she won't have the clue to come here to look for me, what do you think?" he asked. He was looking for every solution to keep Tess at distance.
"I don't think that Michael would agree with that girlfriend, he's jealous like a tiger you know!" Maria replied. She didn't want to get him mad but she felt helpless regarding his problem. "Maybe, you should ask to Isabel for helping you, after all she's her best friend!" she asked

"Are you kidding! Isabel is helping her to get me, she always said Tess here, Tess there to try to catch me, my own sister acts against me." he said with anger. "If Liz was there, i miss her!" he added sadly
"Max, she left....she didn't care about us anymore, i don't know where they are and i'm craving to know it, but she forgot us. She even didn't know that it was not your fault that night at Tess's party" Maria shout.
"Maria, i'm sure they were compelled to leave, i can't imagine another reason, Mr Parker wouldn't have sold his diner if it was not for a serious problem and i'm scared for Mrs Parker...Remember, she was so sick before they left and Liz was so stressed" he said, trying to find an excuse for their best friend's departure.
"I'm not surprised to see you defend her, you're in love with her......but why didn't you tell her about your feelings while she was here! i don't understand you Max..You were in love one another since years but none of you dared to confess it to the other!" Maria said trying to understand their reasons.

"I was scared..." "WHAT??" Maria shouted
"Maria, i was her best friend! YOU say that she loved me too, i've never felt it, she liked me like a best friend, like a brother, but i don't believe that she loved me too.....And i was scared to ruin that friendship, i prefered to have her like a friend rather than nothing. Can you contemplate my situation from my point of view for a while and u'll see if i could tell her about my feelings" he explained.
"I'm sure that if you had admitted your feelings for her, she would never believe that you slept with that bitch." she said sadly. She was thinking that if things had been different between Max and Liz, their best friend would be there in Las Cruses instead of she didn't know where, alone.
Even if Maria was upset about Liz's departure, she was sure that her friend had been hurt that night and maybe with her parents'help, they chose to leave Roswell.. and that was Tess's fault. Max interrupted her thoughts
"I hope she will call us soon, you know, i really miss her....i need her to show to that bitch who is the love of my life...i need to have her in my life" he said with a lump in the throat.

"I've an idea! Why don't you seek someone to help you with Tess?" she asked
"What do you mean "someone to help me with Tess", i thought you could do it" he replied dumbfounded
"No, no...not me! A girl! a new one that you could date" she added
"MARIA! Are you kidding! i just have admitted my feelings for Liz and you're talking about another girl? I can't date anyone but Liz!" he replied stubborn
"Max..Max...listen to me, i'm your best friend, right?....yeah. Listen you should find a girl and ask her to help you....SERENA!!!! I found the good one!" she cried out, jumping all around the room.
"Maria...you should sit down on the bed, i think that you lost your mind...Why are you talking about Serena? and what's the link with Liz" he asked looking at his friend like she became silly.
"Not Liz! I'm not talking about Liz, i'm talking about Tess! the gerbil, you remember her? I'm not a fool you came here desesperate about her and the way she kept harassing you..." she asked, Max nodded yes, "I have the solution.....my roommate Serena, she's a nice girl, pretty with long brown hair and brown eyes....you're following me..."
"Maria, i'm not following you there! i don't want to date anyone, even if that girl is as gorgeous as Liz, i'm in love with Liz and i intend to wait for her until she comes back" Max replied tireless. But Maria, stubborn as she is, was continuing without listen to him. She found the solution for Max about Tess.

"Max, Serena has already a boyfriend, you're not dating her...it'll be a set up to keep Tess away from you...do you understand now? Serena looks like Liz and Tess couldn't stand Liz....The worst trick you could make to her is to date a girl looking like Liz, she's going to be enraged!....i see that from here!" she said with a devilish smile.
She was holding their revenge and Liz revenge.
"Max, let me talk to Serena, since you couldn't be really involved with her, i don't think she'll refuse to play that trick to Tess mostly because she hates her...Tess already tried to ruin her life last year...Are you ok, if Serena agrees to be in?" she asked full of hope.

Max contemplated the idea of a revenge on that bitch...the plan is good, he liked Serena, she reminded him Liz with her long brown hair and her brown eyes, she's kind and funny and since she has a boyfriend, Max won't be scared to get trap in another love story.
"OK Maria, i agree with you, you can ask to Serena for her help and if she's ok, you'll be able to fix the set up..we'll have our revenge on Tess." he said with the same devilish smile than Maria.
"But Max, not a word to your sister, right?" she asked
"I didn't plan to commit suicide yet" he replied laughing, he was relieved that they almost found a solution.

thank u to u my faithful readers. i just want to say that i made a break in this chapter about Max and Liz and i hope u like my idea in that chapter
a little explanation too, Liz has decided to act the way she has because she didn't know what to do, his mother and her illness was her priority and if she told to Maria where she was, she was sure that her friend would say it to Max and she didn't want it.
and about Max, at this time of the story, he didn't know what happened at the party, he just couldn't believe that he had slept with Tess. nothing else.

Chapter 15

The day after, Maria called Max to announce him that Serena agreed to help him to hold Tess at distance, they fixed a meeting for the afternoon to settle the plan.
Even if he was happy to have found a way to get rid of Tess, Max was wandering like a hurt soul moaning for Liz, he couldn't help but grumble about his stupidity that night. He had let her alone and gone to dance with that bitch instead of staying by her side, if he had stayed quiet, nothing would be happening and she would be there with him. And he didn't find what happened then, he was certain that, if he slept with Tess, he was drunk, so unable to move by himself...that's what made him say that he didn't do it.

Far from here, Liz was begining to settle her life. She was going to UCLA but was living with her parents, she was so scared if something would happen to her mother. She had the classes she wanted and in one of them, biology, she met a handsome guy, Jason. He was tall with dark hair and green eyes, he reminded her Max a lot, that's why the first day she was sitting beside him, she was avoiding all his attempts to be close with him.
"Hi, i'm Jason Berg, it's seems that we'll have to work together for that class!" he said with a warm voice.

Liz was in hell, even his voice looked like Max's, that was incredible, if he told her that he was Max's clone, she could believe it, and she's scared, scared to be in front of Max's "twin" every day, scared to appreciate too much that new guy and forget Max too. What a dilemma! she thought for herself.

"You lost your tongue? Or maybe, i'm annoying you and you're thinking in a way to get rid of me?" he asked with a smile in the voice.

Liz looked up at him and he saw in her eyes that she was not annoyed at all, he decided that maybe she was that kind of girl too shy to talk to a new guy the first day, so he sat beside her and kept staring at her until she talked to him.
"Ok, Jason Berg, stop staring at me this way, you're disturbing me" she said with a smile.
"Hey, she smiled!!! I'm lucky, you smiled, another one could have slapped me first...But, not you...i knew it, you're special, something in you make you special and i've to find what is it." he replied still staring at her. He meant what he said, this girl had something that made her special, he didn't know why but that how he was feeling.

"I'm far from mysterious and i've no secret...i'm Liz....Liz Parker, you see nothing so mysterious or special" she said unable to not look into his fabulous eyes.

They are green..like emerald light.....She was lucky, she thought, every guy she was interested in had fabulous eyes, and once again, her mind returned to Max...and his amber eyes, and for a while she kept quiet. Jason wondered what made her so silent and so sad....maybe a boyfriend she left?
"Liz, are you ok? You seems to be far..far from there....from me. Is there anything that i said which annoyed you? Tell me...i like you and i don't want to bother you the first day here in UCLA" he said with concern on his face.
Liz looked at him and decided that Max had lost his chance with her, and Jason was there, trying to acknowledge her, he was smart, funny and devilishly gorgeous..he deserved a chance and Liz thought that she was going to give him that chance. To give them a chance.

At Las Cruces, Max was going to Maria's room to meet Serena, he was happy to know that she agreed to help him and sorry for her to see that even a new girl could be annoyed by Tess. He swore to himself that while he was with Serena, he'll look for a hint to find what happened that night.
Serena had a boyfriend, she won't claim attention from him, so he'll have all his time to find out.

Chapter 16

When he entered in Maria's room, Max found her with her roommate, Serena, talking. From his place, Max thought that Serena looked a lot at Liz, the same dark and long hair, almost the same brown eyes, except that Liz was special for him, and no one could be compared with her.
When she saw him, she smiled.....And no....that's definetely not the same smile, Liz's smile was enlightening his life every time.

"Hi Max, i'm pleased to meet you again" Serena said
"Hi Serena, Maria.....So? What's up?" he asked a little embarrassed, even if he knew that Serena had agreed with Maria to help him, he couldn't help to feel bad thinking that she had to know what he did with Tess.
"Max...Serena is a good friend and she knows what happened at that party...Don't feel ashamed, she's here to help you, and don't worry, it's a pleasure for her since Tess tried to seduce her boyfriend too" Maria said standing beside him.
"OK....so what's the plan?"
"Max, Tess is sure that Liz left, right?" Max nodded yes so Maria continued "Ok, what if we make her believe that Liz was here in Las Cruzes?" she said
"WHAT????? Are you crasy? If you're thinking that Tess will mix up Liz with Serena?...Don't be offended Serena...are you kidding me, Maria? That's your fabulous plan?" he cried out. He was disappointed, he thought that Maria, as always, would find a way to get rid of the bitch, but he deluded now.
"MAX....MAX....Wait a second! i didn't say that Serena will take Liz's place..Listen, we don't need for Tess to see really Serena. I just want her to see her back, or from far. It'll an illusion, for her to believe that Liz is back and back in your life too." she explained slowly for him to undersand.

Max contemplated that idea, he didn't need to play that role a long time, just a while for Tess to believe that Liz was back, he sighed looking at Serena.
"Max don't be so sad, she'll come back soon, i'm sure, she won't be able to stay far from her friends that long, believe me. She loves you." she added taking Max's hand in hers.
"I hope you'll be right Serena"
"OK....We're not here to comfort you, Max, i'm sorry to say that, but i need to know if you agree with my plan and if you're ready to play it at the first occasion?" Maria asked a little nervous.
"If you think that it'll work on her, why not. Maria, i need to know what happened that night. I'm sure i didn't sleep with her, or if i did it, she'd drugg me and Kyle and Liz heard "me" to talk with that bitch....there's something weird here, and i've to find out what it is." he said at the edge of the tears, he had lost his best friend because of this night, the love of his life.

Maria and Serena looked at each other, they felt the tension in Max's voice and his pain to have lost Liz and Maria was determined to find out too what happened with Tess, to be able to find where Liz was hidding since that time. She hugged Max and kissed him on the cheeks "we'll do all what is possible to do to help you, i'm sure Tess will be disturbed by our little trick and she will fall in our trap, don't worry, Max, we'll find out what happened overthere."

On the other side of the country, Liz was wandering in the hallway of the campus with Jason, she found out that they had a lot of common and she was glad to have him with her. They were laughing at a Jason's joke when Liz saw a petite blond looking at them. She stopped laughing, shocked.....Tess? Tess was there? That was impossible since she was chasing after Max, so if it's not Tess, who is that girl keeping looking at them?
"Jason, look discreetly at that girl overthere, the blond one, do you know her?" she whispered.

Jason looked where the girl was standing and turned pale "Ava!" he said shocked too.

Chapter 17


Jason looked where the girl was standing and turned pale "Ava!" he said shocked too. Hearing his tone, Liz turned towards the girl and then to Jason "Ava? Who is Ava?"
"My girlfriend" he mumbled unable to take his eyes off the girl.
Liz froze, he has a girlfriend....so she had nothing to do with him! and she felt the urge to flee from this man, she already burned her heart for another guy and his blond bimbo, she had no intention to make that mistake again. "Humm...Jason, i've to go" she said softly.
"Huh? Oh Liz....What did you say?" Jason seemed to come back from a dream
"Nothing more than i've to go, you should talk to your girlfriend, she's waiting for you.....See you later" she said almost running
"Liz....Liz wait! she's not my........girlfriend.." but Liz couldn't hear him, she was far.

He stayed there frozen......while Ava was walking towards him with a smile.
"Hi Jason...i'm very pleased to meet you" she said looking at him as if he was her last meal.
"I'm not....What are you doing here? I can't believe that you IQ increased enough to attend that college?"
"You're right honey...i've just wanted to come and see you...i missed you" she said coming closer, she put her hand on his chest and he jumped like if he was burning.
"Don't touch me, Ava...and go away from me! We're not together anymore, so leave me alone and go to hell!" he cried out.
"Jaason...You hurt me.. I don't understand why you're acting like this with me? You can't be mad with me, it's the past Jason!" she said with tears leaking in the corner of her blue eyes.
"You're right, it's the past...you're the past i want to forget...I'll say it again Ava, you've nothing to do here, leave me alone, return to your disgusting life" he said and walked away from her.
"You have a new girlfriend, huh?? That little brunette maybe?? She's not me, Jason! she'll never be me!" she shouted, "you still love me honey, and i love you too, you and me, it's not over!" she added but before she could move, Jason grabbed her arm and shook her with anger "You and me it's over since you cheated on me with your monkey! what's his name??? RATH?? Do you remember him, do you remember what i saw the day i came earlier at home, bitch? I don't love you anymore Ava, and if you don't want me to harm you, you've better go away from me." he said pushing her away.
"Ok, i leave you alone Jason....for the moment, it's not over for me...i still love you. And don't even think that i would let that little mouse take what belongs to me Jason, you should warn her, i don't like to lose." she said with a threatening look.

Jason didn't answer and left her in the middle of the hallway. He began to run looking everywhere to see if Liz was still there. He shouldn't have let her alone, he was with her....not really but they were walking together before that bitch came to disturb him.
He found her on a bench under a tree, lost in her thoughts...He ran towards her and when he arrived beside her, he saw that she was crying. Seeing him, she startled and wiped her tears with her hand.
"Liz, i'm sorry...i didn't know that....." he began to apologize
"Jason...that's not you...It's not your fault" she said sadly
"It's that bitch...She's nothing anymore Liz...It's over" he kept pleading.
"Jason...I'm not crying for you or your girlfriend or.....i'm crying for my life...I screwed everything...He screwed everything too. You've nothing to do with this." she wiped her eyes and tried to smile. "I'm sorry, i didn't mean to cry in front of you.."
"Liz, even if we don't know each other since long, we are friends...i'm your friend, if you need to talk about your problem...I'm here...i'm here for you" he said putting his finger under her chin. He was moved by that girl, and irresistibly drawn to her, he understood that there was someone else...she needed time and he will give her all the time she'll want, but like he said, he'll be there for her.


At Las Cruzes, that morning.

Maria called Max to tell him to meet Serena near the dorms, they had to enter together in the class, hand in hand. Tess had to believe that Liz was there, after that, Max had to fake a real interest in Serena. Maria was certain that Tess will be mad and will make the fatal mistake. Then, he will find out what happen that night at her party.

Chapter 18

When they entered in the class, Max and Serena were holding hands and they sat side by side. Serena kept her head a little bent on Max's chest, that way Tess won't be able to recognize her at the first sight and the most important, she will angry to see them so close again. They were waiting anxiously.
When she entered, she narrowed her eyes looking for Max and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the brunette at her place "Liz is back? That couldn't be Liz, she made her best to get rid of her...when did she come back?" she kept thinking while she made her way into the class.

"Hi Max...Liz? You came back?" she asked dumbfounded "I thought you left Max alone when you understood that we were together" she said. The anger made her talk more than she would have done if she hadn't be that surprised.
"We're not together, Tess. We'll never be." he said with fury in his eyes.

Serena straightened and Tess gasped seeing that she was wrong "Serena? What are you doing here? Why didn't you answer when i thought you were Liz?" she couldn't stop questionning.
"It's not your fault if you're obssessed by Liz, but Liz is gone and i'm with Max now....if that annoys you, we could talk about you and me, after the class, huh?" she said and couldn't help the triumph lightning in her eyes. They have disturbed that bitch and it was worthy, that's sad that it was not really Liz, here beside Max, it would have been funnier. She cupped Max's face and put a peck on his lips, she had to play his new girlfriend but couldn't forget that she had a boyfriend and she was in love with him.

"That's impossible! YOU and Max? I don't believe it....it's a set up, i'm sure....he couldn't be with you, even if you look like Liz, he's completely in love with her...." Tess cried out.
Before Serena could answer, the professor entered in the class and asked Tess to take her place, on the last rank. Furious to be ejected that way, Tess went to sit and of course didn't listen anything of the class.
When the bell rang, Max and Serena, hand in hand went out before she could talk to them, she gathered her things and ran to catch them up. When she arrived near the lockers, she found them kissing. To tell the truth Max was nuzzled in Serena's neck. Without taking breath, Tess attacked Serena.

"Ok, now the game is over, you should tell me what's going on here, Serena!" she screamed.
"It's not a game, and you should talk lower, Tess, if you don't want to see people coming aroung us.." she replied with all the calm she was able to have and feeling Max's arms around her helped her.
"WHAT?...What are you taliking about? I don't care of the others, i want an answer...Max, you have to be with me....I didn't do what i've done to find you with a Liz's double!" she shouted not paying attention that her anger was taking the best of her and she was saying what they were waiting for her to confess.
"What have you done, that night Tess? Tell me, i'm very interested to know..." Max interfered with a sugary voice. "Is that possible that Tess will be so angry that she will tell them what happened that night without knowing it" Max began to hope.
"Huh? What did you say?" she asked disturbed.
"I said that i would like to know what have we done that night at your party, i was drunk and i don't remember it.. Tell me Tess, what have you done to me?" he kept questionning.

But Tess, as angry as she was, didn't fall in the trap.. She recovered her mind and smiled devilishly."Nothing Max, we slept together that night, i'm sorry you don't remember it, but we did it." she said looking at Serena in the eyes.
Serena didn't let her win and shrugged "Tess, i don't care what happened that night, i was not with Max then, that was Liz and she's gone now. You can say all what you want, i don't care. Max is mine, now." she said quietly, she knew that she had to push Tess until she'll lose control and confess what she had done to Max that night and she'll make her best to get that.
"You think that i got rid of Liz to have you on my way, Serena? And, by the way, where is your beloved boyfriend? Does he know that you're cheating on him with Max?" she asked

Serena didn't let Tess disconscert her, and she replied as if she was living what she was saying "We broke up when i found out that i was thinking too much about Max, we're not together anymore...Why, you want to date him?" she inquired
"No, too weak for me..Max is a better target for me. That's why i won't give him up in your hands. Believe me Serena, i will get rid of you as easily than i did of the little mouse..." she said brushing Max's chest with a lascive hand..."You'll be mine, Max...Soon or late, you'll be mine" and with that she left them.
"That won't work Serena, that won't work....She's stronger than us!" Max said desesperate.
"NO...She's scared of Serena. We have to push her more and she'll tell us what happened" Maria said as she was coming beside them. "I observed her while she was speaking to Serena, the anger was suffocating her, and if we continue like that, she'll give in." she added with a smile.
Max looked at her and then at Serena, a little lost, and thought about Liz, somewhere in the country and felt more sad than ever.

Chapter 19

A week later

At Las Cruzes, Max and Serena with the help of their friends kept acting as if they were together. Tess couldn't help but run into them all the time, and began to think that she was getting obssessed by Max and his new girlfriends relationship.

"I can't let things slid out of my hands, I have to stay in control....I'm sure it's a set up...it's impossible that Max and Serena are together! I should ask her boyfriend to see if he knows what his little mouse is doing behind his back!" she tought for herself.

That day, when she was in the hallway, she saw them kissing in a corner...she froze "Maybe, it's true, they didn't see me coming and yet they are kissing" she thought completely disturbed.

In fact, Maria had called Max and Serena to tell them that Tess was coming, and she didn't pay attention of who was behind her, so she didn't know it was a set-up. "Well, well...you're not able to keep your hands and your mouth off Serena, Max! I was completely wrong when I thought that Liz was the threat! Serena seems to be more attractive if you behave this way. Finally, Serena I think that I'll call your ex-boyfriend, he is not my first choice but as Max seems to be so atracted to you, I must comfort Sean...if you broke up with him I'm sure it won't be a problem for you if I date him, isn't it?" she asked. Actually, she didn't had any interst of dating Sean, she just wanted to scare Serena to find out if was a set-up or the real thing, she couldn't accept that Max prefered another girl over her, and out all of them a Liz's double! It was a nightmare for her!

Serena shivered in Max's arms but that had gone unnoticed by Tess "Tess, I don't think that Sean would be interested to date anyone for now, not because of our break up, but he has some problems to deal with. But if you want to date him, go for it! I'll feel sorry for him, because you're not the kind of girl I would like to see him with, but if he agrees! That's not my problem anymore!" she said.

As Tess didn't see her real reaction, she thought that dating Sean wouldn't be a challenge since his ex-girlfriend didn't care about it and couldn't be hurt. Maybe she will be upset but nothing more, and Tess gave up her previous idea to call him, she didn't like him that much.

When she saw them walk away, she ran to catch up with them. "Hey, I didn't finish to talking to you! Why do you walk away from me? Are you scared of me?" she asked with a smirk

"Tess, we're not just walking away from you and no...we're not scared of you....you're just so boring, it's a nightmare to be around you, so if you could excuse us, we have nothing left to say....oh, and if you want to call Sean to ask him out, it would be a pleasure for me, I'll get rid of two problems at once!" Max said. He knew that if he pushed Tess in Sean's arms, she would give up her chase, he was annoyed to see her chasing him, but Serena accepted to help him, and all he could do was to help her to keep her boyfriend out of Tess's schemes.

And it seemed to work when he saw the hatred look in Tess's eyes, he was certain that she wouldn't bother Sean, on the contrary, she'll be after him again. Maybe that would be the best way to find out what she did to him that night.

Los Angeles UCLA, the same day.

"Jason, I don't want to go out, I'm not in the mood to have fun tonight" Liz said, she was walking to her car, hurried to get home.

"Why, Liz? I'm asking you for weeks now and you keep telling me no! I don't want to go out with you if you don't want to be with me....but it's just a concert." he said, not knowing why Liz had changed when she was with him.

"Jason, my mother doesn't feel good this morning, and I don't want to leave her alone, my father won't be home early and I just want to be with her, she needs me. Can you understand that?" she asked upset to see him insisting.

Actually, Nancy felt better after the operation, even if she had to endure chemotherapy, she was so happy that they had found a way to heal her, that she gladly would accepted all the treatments without a complaint.

Returning to Liz, she didn't want to go out with Jason for 2 reasons: first, it was too soon for her, Max was in her mind and heart and it was so hard to think about someone else.

And most of all she was scared....Jason had a girlfriend...an ex-girlfriend so he said, and she looked so much like Tess, that Liz had no intentions to cross swords with her. Tess had been enough for her.

Jason was staring at her, trying to find out why she kept refusing. "Liz, I'd like to go with you and see your mother, if you don't mind. I know you said she didn't feel good, but I'd like to be with you tonight and if you allow me...I'd like to come over to your house." he pleaded.

Liz hadn't the courage to say no, he was so gentle with her. "Jason, we're going to my house only if my mother agrees, and only if she feels better.....I'll go to the concert with you....BUT....BUT it's not a date! I don't want to go out with you Jason! I'm not ready to do that and I'm not sure that Ava will leave you alone if she finds out that you have a new girlfriend.....Jason, all I want is to be your friend, ...it's better that way." she said looking straight into his green eyes.

"I agree for the moment, Liz...That's all I can promise!"
