Chapter 10

He started and went to his house. His mother has been surprised to see him so early "Honey, you're already at home? The party ended?" she said
"Yeah....everything is over" he mumbled and climbed to his room.
"I think that Liz's departure will really affect our son, honey..he looked very sad." she said to her husband, no knowing if she could go to his room and talk to him or not...."Leave him alone, Nancy, he'll talk to you when he'll be ready." said Mr Evans.

In his room, Max couldn't stop thinking about Liz. She was leaving the day after for he didn't know how long and he won't be able to talk to her before that...She won't allow him to do it, he was not her best friend anymore....

"Geez Max, do you think that a best friend would act like you did? Do you think that best friends would kiss the way you did? Do you really think that your thoughts are a best friend's ones? Who are you kidding Max?" he thought for himself. Yes... he kissed her! Liz, his best friend...he kissed her twice. She was so amazing! so beautiful! When did she change from his best friend into that fantastic young woman? He didn't see the change, he was too busy to look at the other girls, he didn't see who was under his nose. She's leaving tomorrow and he won't have the possibility to tell her how sorry he was for the stupid words he said to her....at least, he said that he loved her! LOVE?

Whaou! did he really love the girl he knew since they were young, the girl he always considered like a buddy, a sister? The words have been out of his mouth before he could restrain himself and he meant them. Liz was the most important person in his life and he realised that now...now that she's leaving! He wonder what she would do if he went to her house later and entered in his room like he often did in the past? Would she throw him out?
He couldn't stop thinking about Liz, his Liz...

"Maaxx...Somebody's here for you!" he heard his mother calling.
Liz? Would it be possible that Liz was there? He went downstairs trembling with joy...fear...he didn't know how to feel anymore...Did she reg..."SHIT....SHIT!! That's Tess! and i have any envy to talk to her and anything else anymore!" he thought for himself as he was arriving at the middle of the stairs.
"Hi, Maaxx" she said climbing towards him with a large smile.
"Tess? What are you doing here? It's not a little late to come here?" he asked coldly. He has nothing to tell her and was amazed to see that in a few hours his life has been turned upside down and he was unable to enjoy what he liked before today.
"Max, don't be that rude! You're not happy to see me?" she said simpering. She was beside him and began to stroke his arm, his chest seductively. "You know, i let you go to the little mousy party alone, i think that i deserve something from you, this time. Max, i was wondering...." she wanted to add but he cut her off. "Tess, i have a bit headache and i came back home soon because of that, please, go and i'll see you tomorrow" he said getting upset.
"Ohhh! my boy was boring at this party!!! i'm sorry for you, Maax!" she continued oblivious that Max only wanted to see her leave. In fact, she didn't care, all what's important for her is HER...the others? she didn't care.
"Tess, please if you like me, leave me alone....i promise i'll call you back later" he said exasperate
"At what time?" she asked
"HUH? What do you mean?" he asked not understanding what she meant
"Yeah, you said that you call me back later, it's already late, so i ask you at what time will you call me?" she repeated.
"Tess, i didn't mean tonight! I said it to you but you don't listen to me, i'm tired and i want to go to sleep early, i'll call you back tomorrow or after, i don't know, but i'll do it."he said trying to get rid of her and saying that he tried to push her towards the door. "Tess, please it's late"
"Ok, i'm leaving...but you won't get rid of me that easy Max...I'm your girlfriend and i deserve you to respect me" she said full of herself.
"I promise, i'll respect you as you deserve but leave....I'm tired Tess! Tired....do you understand that word?" he asked getting more and more upset.
He couldn't understand how she had the nerve to stay in a place it's obvious she's unwanted...He didn't know she was that stubborn, or maybe he was founding all her defects in the same day.
"You've better hold your promise Max, i won't let you forget it, count on me..And you don't have to push me to the exit, i'm leaving from my own will" she said, speaking like a spoiled child.
When he closed the door behind her, Max breathed with relief, he thought that she would never leave. After that he returned in his room.

While Max was fighting to get rid of Tess, Liz was enjoying her party, dancing with her friends mostly Sean who was dreaming of Liz and him, as a couple...after all, Max is out of the picture!
"Liz do you want to go out with me, i like you so much" he asked shyly while they were dancing.
"Sean...I like you too..but i'm leaving tomorrow for Harvard,it's far from here and i don't know would i come back. I'm sorry, i'm really flattered by your demand, but it would be hard to date so far one from the other" she said and seeing the pain in his eyes, she kissed him on the cheek.

Chapter 11

The party was ending and everyone was sad to see one of them leaving for the other side of the country, even if they were proud of her, after all Harvard is one of the most famous university in the world. They surprised Liz offering her a lot of gifts and when the time came to leave her, Alex and the others climbed on the stairs and sang a farewell song to her. As you imagine, everyone was crying and Mr and Mrs Parker went beside their daughter, to support her.
"Bye guys and don't forget me. I want a phone call or a letter every day" she said trying to laugh. A last kiss from Maria, Michael and Alex and they're gone.
She was alone in her room, still crying....still cursing Max and Tess...if they didn't exist, she wouldn't be obligated to leave her friends and family the day after...
She climbed in her bed in the middle of the gifts she received and stayed there, looking at the ceiling.

After a little while, she heard a knock at the window. Surprised, she went to open it and found the last person she ever thought to find here: Max.
"What are doing here Max" she said shocked to see him on her balcony.
"I forgot to give you this" he said holding out a gift. "I know that you were not waiting for me and maybe you think that you should throw this by the window, but i'd like you to accept it as a gift from the man who has been your best friend, from the man who deeply regrets what he said, from the man who will keep you in his heart forever" he said with tears in the eyes.
Liz was dumbfounded seeing him crying and she began to cry too, but she remembered that she was leaving by his fault and the anger took the best of her. "Max, i'm sure you're sincere now...but it's too late...i'm leaving because of YOU....You hurt me, deeply, and i'm not sure to want to forgive you so easy...you were laughing in my back with your little bimbo and that time you didn't care of me...What made you change? Me in a fabulous dress? That's not enough Max, under that dress i'm still ME. Liz, your best friend...I'm just becoming again the girl i've ever been. It's too late Max...i'm sorry." she said not wanting to stop the tears flowing on her cheeks.

"Liz...Liz, listen to me..I know that i hurt you badly, i've no words to say for you to forgive me. I just hope that, when you'll be far from me, you won't hate me too much and you won't forget me" he said turning to leave.
"Max...wait. Why did you leave the party tonight? A date with your girlfriend?" she teased him
She couldn't accept to see him leave like this, after all what they shared since years, she had to keep him beside her a while longer. She saw him turn round and look at her with tears in his eyes and she froze.
"No Liz, i had any date with Tess, i couldn't stay at your party, don't you remember the lesson you gave me? it has been the worse moment in my life Liz, been rejected by you. I couldn't endure more, but i saw you after with Maria and Michael, i was here." he said wiping his eyes, "Liz, i know that i've been wrong with you, i know that there anything that i can say or do to make you change your mind, and believe i regret it, and i'll regret it all my life, but couldn't you allow me to stay your friend? Are you compelled to throw me out of your life as if i've never existed?"

Liz looked at him, stunned. A while before, she was wishing that he would never exist and his girlfriend too, but now that he said it loud, she realised that she has been happy to have him in her life, before Tess. That's that girl who screwed up their friendship. "Max, i've never wanted to throw you out of my life, you've always been a part of that life...I'm sorry but you've changed since you dated Tess. I'm not jealous, Max, but i'm hurt. I've lost my best friend and i'm leaving my family, my friends, my old life because of you.....You and Tess made me leave Roswell." she said wanting him to know the truth.

She decided to tell him why she had decided to leave Roswell to go to Harvard, he had to know that, even if she was realising a dream Harvard, she hadn't planed to attend it. She should go to UNM with all the others, like they always said she would do, and now, everything is upside down, and that Tess who was going with him.
"You're leaving because of me? WHY?? Why are you leaving because of me? Just because i said that you were jealous of Tess? It's impossible Liz, it's not such a big deal, we already had a dispute, you and me, worse than this, and you never said that you changed your mind because of it. I'm sorry Liz, i can't believe that one word made you decide to change your plans." he said irritated, that was too stupid if she was leaving him for that word and he couldn't believe it, even if she swore it, he couldn't believe it.

"You want to know the real reason of my departure? You don't believe that it's you and Tess? You're such an idiot Max, i swear that it's because of you and Tess even if you're right, the word you said has been just the drop which has made overflow the vessel. I'm telling you the truth but i want your promise that after that you'll leave my room" she said looking in his eyes. She saw that he was wondering why she was asking such a promise, but he wanted to know over everything, he couldn't go on in his life without knowing what made his best friend leave her old life.
He was still hesitating having the feeling that she was going to tell him something very important for them. "Ok, i promise to leave your room..tell me the truth Liz..." he said softly coming closer to her.

She breathed deeply and locked her eyes to his "ok, i'm telling you why i'm leaving....i'm doing it because i can't bear to see you with Tess or any other woman anymore Max.... i'm doing it because.....i'm in love with my best friend Max.....i'm in love with you and you never saw me as a woman until today but it's too late, Max, i gave up....Now, as you promised, leave my room." she said in a breath, she was at the edge of the breakdown, but she didn't want to see his eyes on her, she didn't want to see the satisfaction or worse the contempt in his eyes. She turned her back to him and repeated "Leave now, Max...you promised."
She heard him walking until the window but before he left he murmured "Liz, i'm leaving....open my gift and if you can forgive me...come back to me, i'll be waiting for you." and with those words, he climbed on the balcony and disappeared in the night.
Liz stood there, looking at her empty room, the tears were flowing on her cheeks but she didn't think to stop them, then she went by her bed and tore up the paper enveloping his gift and opened the red velvet box...that was a necklace with a matching bracelet in gold...and behind the bracelet it was engraved "for Liz, the love of my life, Max".
Reading that, she fell on the floor and couldn't stop sobbing....

Chapter 12

The next morning , a sunny day, Liz was ready to go to the airport. In front of the Crashdown, she found all her friends coming to tell her goodbye and she was so touched that tears began to swim in her eyes and her lips were trembling.

One by one her friends came to wish her good luck and everybody was crying, Liz tried to be strong but when Michael, Alex and Maria kissed her, she broke down and let her tears flow, they hugged her "Liz, I'm gonna miss you, Chica, it's terible, we haven't had enough time together and now you're leaving" Maria said crying on her shoulder. "You'll come back for hollydays? I'm sure your parents won't let you spend Christmas far from them, far from us...we'll see you then!" she added with a small smile.

"Maria...Maria...I don't know if I can come back for Christmas, BUT.....but I'll do my best, and I wil see what I'll do with my parents, ok? Maybe, if I can't, you'll be able to come to me and we'll spend the holidays together. For the moment, I need your strength to leave Roswell, my friends, my family..everything that was my life until now. Please don't cry anymore, Ria, I won't be able to stop myself." Liz said while she kissed her best friend.

Saying goodbye to Alex or Michael wasn't that easy even if Michael, as usual, kept joking with her about her new life with the high society instead of UNM with the poor people...and so on, but Liz saw in his eyes that he was sad to see her leaving, and a little angry knowing that, without Max and his bitch, they wouldn't even be here to say goodbye for he didn't know how many years...When he took her in his embrace, Liz disappeared in his arms, she was so petite.

"Thank you Michael, I won't forget what you did for me, you're one of my best friends now and I love you" she said softly. "I love you too, Liz and please even if you find a good boy over there come back home, because I won't survive the hurricane Maria, if you don't ." he said with a smirk.

Alex took her in his arms and held her tight "I'll miss you little sis, come back soon." he said hoarsly, he had made a promise to himself to not cry but that was too difficult when the girl you have known for so many years, was going to leave for the other side of the country.

Liz was still hiding against his chest when she felt Alex stiffen, she looked up to see what's going on and was aware that everyone was speechless and staring at something behind her. She turned her head and saw Max walking towards her. Alex tightened his grip "Liz..." but she pushed him away "It's ok Alex, I can handle it..don't worry." and waited for Max to come to her. She couldn't help but shiver, she had still the memory in her mind of what happened last night in her room, his gift and what was engraved inside the bracelet. She closed her eyes and opened them when she felt him stand in front of her."Liz, I know you didn't expect to see me today....but I couldn't let you leave without saying goodbye to you and to wish you good luck...not after all those years we shared." he said with a husky tone.

"It's ok, Max and thank you" she said sternely, she couldn't act normally with him, even if she wanted it, she couldn't, she was too affected by him...and she was still angry to have to leave her life because of him.

"Liz, you're leaving...we don't know when we'll meet again, could we try to act like friends for the ultimed time we're together?" he asked his eyes reflecting all his pain to see her leaving.

After what she had confessed last night, he was completely devasted...she was leaving by his fault....because she loved him...and anything he could say wouldn't change the fact that she was leaving him for years...even if he had engraved his feelings on the bracelet. Speaking of that, he saw that she had the bracelet and the necklace on her and he cursed himself even more...without his stupidity, his blindness...Liz would be with him today.

While he was reflecting, Liz couldn't help but looked at him, he seemed disturbed and sad, she hoped that her departure would be the reason but she didn't want to give herself false hope, he might be sad because she was leaving but that's all, once she will be gone, he'll find his little bimbo and he'll even forget her name..and.Liz Parker was exit...

"Max thank you for coming and thank you for the gift, as you see I'm wearing them, they are so beautiful....But my father is waiting for me and..." she began to speak but he cut her off "Did you read what it's engraved inside of the bracelet, Liz? It's important for me to know." he said hoarsly.

"I did, Max...but it doesn't change anything between us...I'm sure I've a place in your heart, I'm sure you're sad to see me leaving Roswell for years, but I'm sure that, as soon as I'll be gone, you'll go back to Tess's arms...So, what you wrote is beautiful, but firstly it's too late, and secondly I don't think you mean what you wrote...I'm sorry." she said and turned round to return to the others.

She felt a hand on her forearm and turned again to see Max with tears in his eyes "I meant every word I wrote Liz, even if I know that it's too late, I'll be waiting for you and I hope that, one day, you'll come back to me" he said and leaning toward her, he kissed her softly on the cheek "Bye Liz....good luck....and don't forget about me..." he said and without another word, he left.

Liz was shocked.....he meant every word he wrote...why now? why didn't he come sooner? She was looking at him walking away from her without feeling the tears which flowed down her cheeks. That was over.

Still shocked, she felt a arm around her shoulder and she was pressed against a large chest "Cry little sister, don't be ashamed...."Michael said huskily. "He gave me...that bracelet....and that necklace...last night....Michael, he said that I was the love of his life....why now? It's too late!" she said to crying against her friend.

"Liz, I'm sure he meant what he said...I think that he really loves you... he is just the biggest idiot I've ever seen in my life...but if I can say something to defend him, he didn't know that he was in love with you. You were his best friend like me or Alex, he just forgot that you were a fabulous woman...Liz, forget everything and go to Harvard to make your dreams come true but come back when you finished studying. We need you." he said tightning his grip on her.

He took her hand and led her to her father, before she stepped in the car she hugged all her friends and kissed them "I'm going to miss you, but I'll be back soon....Don't forget me" she said in tears when she remembered that those were Max's last words. In the car, she waved to say good bye and sent kisses with her hands.... a moment later, when they left Roswell to take the road to the airport, she saw a jeep on the corner of the street and it's driver standing next to it: Max.

Chapter13

After Liz left, all of her friends were depressed. Not because Liz was the live wire of the group but because she was the link between everyone, and now that she was gone, nobody knew how to react, they felt like orphans and they were missing her like crazy.

Max, on his side, was completely alone. No one talked to him anymore and he felt like he had not only lost the love of his life, but all his friends too. He lay on his bed, a hand on his eyes....thinking about Liz How could he have been so blind ...and how could he not have know that he was in love with his best friend? He always thought of her like a sister or a buddy...he never saw her like the woman she really was and what a beautiful WOMAN!! She is the most beautiful to him.What a fool he was thinking that Tess....

"Tess! I totally forgot about her....What am I going to do now? I can't go on dating her, that would be unfair because I'm in love with another woman..." he thought.

"Max...there is someone here to see you, it's your girlfriend!" Isabel said as she stept in his room without knocking.

"Didn't somebody taught you how knock before you enter a room?" he asked angry "And I don't want to see her now. Tell her that I'm not here!" he couldn't finish his sentence when he saw Tess's head behind his tall sister. He jumped of his bed.

"Is that a way to talk about me, Maaaxx!" she whined "And why do you want Isabel to lie to me, I'm here and I can see that you're here" she said, Max realised that she was not all that smart "not like Liz", he couldn't help but compare, he sighed.

"It's ok Is, I can take care of Tess, thank you for your great help!" he said with a sarcastic glare. Isabel shrugged and closed the door behind her. "NOO! Don't close it!" he screamed. He hadn't had any intention to spend time with Tess in a closed room, she could get the wrong idea about his intentions, and he didn't want that.

"Why Max? Are you scared to be with me in your room if the door is closed?" she asked approaching him to rub his chest with her hand seductively.

Max shivered with disgust, but of course Tess misunderstood that and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Tess, would you stop, please. I'm not in the mood and I think that we need to talk" he said as he pusted her arms away. "Talk? What do you want to talk about?" she asked raping her arms around his waist again. "TESS! STOP!!!! If you can't behave normal, you can get out of my room NOW!", he yelled pushing her away from him.

She looked at him as if he had changed into an alien, she shook her blond curls and glared at him "What's the matter with you Max? I'm not gonna stand here and let you yell at me, and let me remind you that I'm your girlfriend, and I won't do anything with you with your door closed, I've never raped anyone! But I can change that if you let me, I will teach you a lot of good things I can do to your body and help you feel completely relaxed!" she said while she took his hand and led him to his bed.

Max stopped her "Tess...I said NO! Don't you understand when someone tells you NO. N.O. I don't want to be with you anymore...that was all a big mistake...." but she cut him off shouting "WHAT????WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!"

"Tess! Lower your voice, you're not at your owm place! I ask you to get out of my room, now!" he said in a quiet but stern tone.

She froze....stared at him like he suddenly became a monster and....slapped him hard. Max stopped dead in his tracks and looked at her shocked. She took her purse and headed to the door, before she went out of the room, she turned around and looked at him with a devilish stare "You and me are not over Max. I want you and will have you. You're the only one who said no to me and I can't take that. You will be mine Max, and I won't have to rape you for that to happen. You will come and eat out of my hand like all the other guys. You can count on that!" and then she left.

He was still standing in the middle of his room, holding his reddened cheek, when Isabel came out from her own room to see if everything was okay "What happened to you Max? Your cheek...."

"Leave me alone Isabel.." he said closing his door. He lay down on his bed thinking "What did I do? She's completely crasy and I wonder what I ever saw in her before?" When he couldn't think of any answers he closed his eyes and a tear leaked from his eyes...

I'VE UPDATED "BEHIND THE SCENE" AND "A TIME TO FORGIVE" AND I'LL DO IT FOR "HATE....." WHEN IT WILL BE CORRECTED A week later,

Liz was installed and exepted in the classes she wanted. She didn't hang out with the other students. She felt Max in her head and her heart all the time and she just wanted some time to think about what happened 2 days before she left.. "He said that he loved me! He said that he would wait for me until I come back! And that gift...." unconciously her hand brushed against the necklace Max gave her the night before she left. She began to cry softly, not wanting to disturb Shiri, her roommate in the other room.

Unable to restrain her tears, she lay on her bed, cursing at that bitch Tess for having her life turned upside down. "If you weren't going after Max...if you weren't such bitch that was willing to give him what I was not ready to give him yet . Go to hell Tess for messing up my life!" she didn't noticed that she said that out loud. She heard a knock on her door.

"Liz, are you okay?" Shiri asked worried. Liz wiped her tears away and answered. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Can I come in?"

"Hmm, yeah..the door is open. I'm sorry Shiri, I didn't want to disturb you." Liz began to say but Shiri put her hand on her arm. "You don't have to apologize Liz, I was just wondering who you were talking too, I didn't want to bother you. But are you sure that you're okay?" she asked concerned.

Now that she was here, Shiri tried to convince Liz to hang out with her and her friends. Liz always refused and she wondered what made her roommate so sad, and she looked hurt. "Liz, we've decided to go out tonight, would you like to come with us? I'm sure you would feel a whole lot better when you have some fun." she said with a big smile.

"Don't be mad, Shiri, but I'm not in the mood tonight. I know I always say the same thing to you and you always keep asking and looking out for me but I'm not ready to do those things yet, Shiri, please don't feel offended." she said feeling uncomfortable to refuse again. Shiri was always laughing and joking and that's why Liz didn't think that she would understand her.

"Liz, no man is worth to cry over, trust me. I did it in the past, but now I'm taking back my life without even so much as worry about them. When I want to go out, I call one of my friends. We go to a restaurant or go watch a movie or anything but I don't let any man get close to me anymore if I don't want to." she explained to Liz.

Liz looked at her surprized. She would never had thought that the girl infront of her had been hurt before. She looked so carefree and had so much fun. "I didn't know." she said.

"Of course. But it's been a week since we got here, Liz, don't let yourself go, he doesn't deserve it...While you're here crying over him, he's enjoying himself with other things!" she said with an angry voice. Liz hoped that her friend was wrong.

"Shiri, I'm not just crying over him. He is the man that I loved since I was a young girl. It's hard for me now to get over that. But I will not always be in this state of mind. If you just can let me get used to my new life it will be okay." she told her, hoping that Shiri would leave her alone. She had always been a shy girl and she choosed to attend Harvard to be a good student and later become a good doctor. She didn't come here to have fun. She had a goal in life and she had decided to let no one divert her from that goal.

"Liz, I hope that youwill get to know me and see that I'm a girl who likes to see people that she cares about are happy. You have been here for a week now and I see that you are straight and kind and I can't bear to see you sad, just for a man. We're too young, Liz, to get attached to someone forever, believe me. Enjoy your life." she said giving Liz a tap on her shoulder. "I will let it go for tonight, but the next time I won't take no for an answer, okay?" she asked smiling.

"Yes Ma'am, I won't say no if you ask me next week, but I can't promise that if you ask me before that. I've got a lot of work and I've no intention to let a partygirl like you distrub me." she replied laughing "Shiri, thank you...for what you did for me. You don't know me for that long and I only want to say thank you. Now get out of my room, I've got homework to do " she added throwing a pillow to her head.



On the other side of the country

"ISABEL! I'm waiting for you! Are you ready, it's getting late and it's a long ride to Las Cruzes." Max yelled. That was their first day in the college and he had to wait for his sister. "What the hell are you doing? What is taken you so long?" he shouted getting impatient.

"I'm on the phone, wait 30 seconds, I'm coming!" she cried out from her room, and returned to her phone conversation. "Alex, please tell the others that he doesn't feel good since Liz left. I know he's my brother, but don't you think that he deserves some compassion, he's hurt too." she said to Alex, unaware that Max was at the doorway listening to her.

"Who are you talking too?" he yelled making Isabel startle and her phone fell down.

"Shit Max, are you crazy? You scared me! What are you doing here by the way? I was coming." she cried out. She knew that he caught her talking about him and she couldn't let him see that she was worried how he would react about this.

But Max was not ready to let her do what she wanted. And most of all to let her talk about him to the others. He was feeling uncomfortable around them and they didn't give him a chance to come near them since Liz left.. Thinking about her was painful, yet it was only one week ago and he knew he had to wait several years for her to come back home.

"Isabel, I'm waiting for you! I don't care whom you're talking too, I want you downstairs NOW!" he yelled wanting Alex to hear him. "And you have no right to talk about me with people who don't want anything to do with me! Tell your friend Alex, tell them all that I won't grovel for them. I have my pride! If they want to talk to me, I'm waiting for them on the campus!" he added. He knew that he was wrong but he couldn't bear to be an outsider now that Liz was gone."Iz, I'm waiting 3 more minutes, not one more." and with that he left her room.

As he was waiting for his sister in the car, he was thinking about the girl he lost. : Liz, his best friend, the real love of his life. He had realized that too late. But the pain he was feeling in his heart told him that he had those feelings for her for a long, from the begining. He acted like a fool looking for the right girl and never saw what was right under his nose.

His thoughts were interrupted when Isabel climbed in the car. "Max, I'm sorry. I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable but I was angry with Alex and the others for the way they were acting to you. You made a mistake, I agree with them, but you've tried to make it right before she left." she explained to him with concern in her eyes.

"Isabel, I've made a mistake with Liz...not with them. It's none of their business and I won't let them screw up my life because of what I did to Liz. It's our problem and ours only, and I will do whatever I have to do to get her back. It's the only thing I can tell you, because I know that you're worried about us. And I can say that I won't let her be so far from me for to long. I can't live without her for so many years. For now I will give her some space but I intend to go after her and bring her back soon." he stated harshly. "Now if you're ready, it's time to leave Roswell. Las Cruzes is waiting for us."

Chapter 15
At Las Cruzes
When they arrived at Las Cruzes, they headed to the dorms. Max found out that he had to share the appartment with Michael and Alex. Next door was the apartment of Sean, Kyle and a guy they were expecting later.
Max walked into the appartment. Michael and Alex did not know yet who the 3rd roommate was but stiffened when they saw him enter. "What are you doing here Max? Don't tell me that you're the 3rd man?" Michael asked roughly.
"I am the 3rd and believe me like you I'm not glad about sharing this appartment with you either!" Max replied in the same tone.
He had decided that he wouldn't let them get to him when he saw them, but faith had made them roommates. It was not really faith because, they had chosen to be together months ago and he forgot to change it.
"Hey! Don't start this Max! You're the one in a bad position here, and we have to tolerate you. After what you did to Liz, you can be happy that you have a room in this appartment!" Michael retorted.
"Michael, don't count on it that I will leave this appartment, even if you try to make my life a living hell." Max yelled and walked into his room slamming the door behind him.
Alex looked at Michael then at Isabel who was standing there, witnessing the exchange. "Is, I'm sorry, I didn't had enough time to tell Michael...." he began to apologize.
"It doesn't matter Alex, I see that Michael took Liz's side without willing to listen what Max had to say for his defense! I'm leaving now, but I really hope that you will leave him alone, Michael. He has enough on his conscience without you adding more! He was your friend, Michael. Give him the oppertunety to explain himself and if you're not convinced after that, then you can react the way you want. But let me tell you one thing ,: Liz hasn't been this tough on him as you are, maybe you can learn something from her." she said angry.
Before she left, Max came out of his room. "ISABEL! You don't need to explain everything. Thank you but it's my problem and I don't need your help, I'm sorry. Don't worry, everything will be okay, and I won't let these guys get to me me longer. Go, Is, don't worry and, I'll call you later." he said kissing her on the cheek.
After Isabel left, Max and Michael looked at each other with anger in their eyes like 2 dogs ready for a fight:. Michael smirked with contempt when Max took a step toward him. Then he stept into his room and slammed the door in Max's face.
"You know Michael, I'm not scared of you! I'll be your man the day and hour you'll choose. You won't have to go far to find me, I live here." he shouted sarcasticly.
Alex was still there, thinking that college had began very badly. He made an attempt to settle the quarrel. "Max, you should understand, you have hurt our best friend, badly, and Michael reaction is normal. But Isabel has made a point. Liz has not been that tough on you the other day. I don't know if she forgave you, I don't think so but we were right there, and from our point of view you have hurt her very badly. It's your fault she's not here with us like we planned. I've no intentions to make your life hell, but I've also no intentions to welcome you like nothing happened between you and Liz." he stated quietly and walked into his room.
Max was standing in the middle of the appartment, cursing to himself to be locked in here with 2 of his ennemies. Cursing himself for his own stupidity. If he hadn't been so stupid, he wouldn't be here fighting with his friends and Liz would be here with him.
He bent his head in dispare and returned to his room.
Before he closed the door, he heard a knock at the front door, surely it would be Maria or Isabel again.
When he opened, he stopped dead in his tracks. Tess stood right in front of him, and leant seductively against the doorway. "Hi Maax, I'm sure you're happy to see me!" she said with a bright smile. Her eyes were roaming over his body with hunger.
He shook his head.*No, does this nightmare ever end!* he thought. Before he was able to answer, Michael opened his door roughly and bellowed. "If you want to see her, it wil notl be in this appartment. This door will be closed for that BITCH, do you hear me Max? We are living here with Alex, and we have no intentions to see her around here." he said with disgust on his face when he looked at her.
Even Max was not happy to see her, he decided to go against Michael. After all he was able to manage his life without Michael's orders. So he changed his behavior toward Tess. "I may share this appartment with you Michael, but my room is still mine, so I will invite Tess in my room, if you don't mind?" he said with a smirk. Actually, he was infuriated. He hadn't had any intentions to let Tess enter the appartment, let alone into his room, but Michael's behavior pushed him to fake an possible interest in her and he had the girl on his back now.
But Michael didn't see it that way and he refused to let her come into the appartment and he screamed. "NO WAY! She won't pass the door! You're still a liar, Max! You tell to Liz that you love her and as soon as she has her back turned, you cheat on her with that BITCH! She was right to go to Harvard! There she'll be far away from you and I hope she'll find someone, someone she deserves." he said with lightning in his eyes.
"Hey! Be careful how you talk about me!" Tess yelled "I'm not a BITCH and Max is allowed to see me where he wants, you're not the Boss here!" she said making her way to come in. Hearing that Max had confessed his love to this little mouse Liz made her even more eager to have him.
This time, Max stopped her "Tess, you should go back. I don't want to fight with Michael, you'd better go. I'll call you later." he said kindly. He didn't want to stay with her and Michael's words had hurt him more than he thought.
"You let him tell you how to live your life? You're not the man you used to be, Max! But I want you and I'll come back later, when you got rid of that pitbull! Bye Honnneyy! Don't forget to call me!" she left the appartment swaying her hips.
Max closed the door and looked at Michael. They sized each other with their eyes and without a word they went back into their rooms.
At Harvard
Liz was laying on her bed toying with her bracelet. She was thinking about Max and what he had engraved inside of the bracelet "The love of my life". Did he really mean what he had said, he told her that he loved her before she left Roswell. Maybe she could have posponed her departure and dealed with him, but she was hurt, she still was, but here far from Roswell, Max, Tess and all the excitment, she had all the time to think about the situation.
She looked at her watch: 4:00 pm. *What if I call Maria, I could hear some news about their settlement at Las Cruzes.* she thought, and without hesitating, she dialed her best friend's phone number and waited.
"Hello?" she heard on the other side.
"Maria? It's..." she was cut off by a scream. "LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Oh Liz! Oh my G-d, it's you? It's really you? Oh my..." Maria was unable to talk clearly, she was so happy to hear her best friend's voice and the tears flowed instantly. "Liiizz... hic... I'm so happy to hear your voice...hic..I'm sorry..I didn't mean to cry...hic..." she kept crying.
Beside her, Serena and Isabel were eager to talk to Liz too, and were urging her to give them the phone. "Maria, stop crying! We want to talk to Liz too!" Isabel said roughly.
"Stop annoying me you two! This is my best friend and I miss her. She called me, ME! So get out and leave me alone!" she said recovering.
"Maria...Listen, I didn't call to provoke a fight between all of you, I can talk with them...after you, ok?" Liz said trying to calm her friend. "She'll talk to you after she is finished with me! So let me talk to my Liz quietly or I won't let you speak to her one word!" she said pouting like a little girl.
Serena and Isabel went to their rooms to finish their unpacking. Maria sat comfortably on the couch "Liz, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to cry like that, but I miss you so much Chica!" she said tears threatening to flow again.
"I miss you too, Ria, that's why I called you. I knew that you all arrived today at Las Cruzes and I wanted to hear some news and wish you "good luck"." she said sadly to be so far away from them.
"Thank you Hun. Oh I wish you were here with us, Liz! Tell me how was your settlement? Went everything all right? Did you meet some handsome student yet? Tell me everything?" she urged her to speak.
Liz sighed, the same Maria and her tons of questions. "Yes everything went all right. No I didn't met any handsome student. To tell you the truth that's not my priority for the moment." she said.
"I bet. You're always think about him, aren't you?" Maria asked.
"Who? What are you talking about Ria?" Liz cried out on the phone. She felt trapped, Maria had a "big nose" to feel those things. She surely knew that Liz was thinking about Max.
Another person in the appartment froze hearing Maria and Liz conversation: Isabel stopped with what she was doing, Maria was questionning Liz about her brother, she would like to be a fly on the wall to hear what they were saying.
"Liz, between you and me, we know that you have Max in your heart and in your mind, I guess that's the reason why you're not eager to find someone else." she said sarcasticly.
"Maria, I've told you.....Okay, you won.You're right, I'm always thinking about him. I don't know what to do to stop being obssessed by this man. Could you help me?" she asked desesperately.
"You love him, you always have. What do you.....Wait" Maria stopped talking seeing Isabel in front of her. "What do you want Is?" she asked sternly.
"I have to talk to Liz, it's important. Maria give me the phone!" she required. "NO WAY! She's my best friend and she needs me, I'll call you when I'm finished talking." she said turning her back to Isabel.
"Maria, stop acting like a little girl, Liz is talking about my brother, I need to talk to her. It's important! I'm sure I can help her and Max too!" she stated quietly.
Before Maria could retort, she heard Liz screaming in the phone "MARIAAAAAA! DO YOU HEAR ME!"
"Yes Liz, I hear you, I've just a little problem with..." Liz cut her off "Maria, I'd like to talk to Isabel, I'm sorry but we will talk after I talked to Isabel. She's right, she can help us, Max and I. Do you want to pass me to Isabel, please?" she asked softly. "Of course Chica. But please before you decide anything, keep in mind everything he did to you before your party. I don't want to see you hurt again." she pleaded with her friend. Then she gave the phone to Isabel. "Is, you'd better keep in mind Liz's interest too. Don't think just about your asshole of a brother! Or I swear, you'll regret to be living under the same roof as me!" she threatened.

Chapter 16


" Liz, how are you? I'm really happy to hear your voice." Isabel said. She felt stressed. Since Liz had left this was the first time she got to talk to her, and she wanted to explain how her brother was feeling.

" I'm fine Isabel and I'm happy to hear you too. Is, what is going on with Max? Did you talked to him lately?" she asked. She was feeling tense, she was thinking about Max a lot and she also knew she was so far away from him. Although what he had said that day, she couldn't trust him. At the same time she was afraid to hear that she was right not to trust him. That he was still the asshole he used to be the last few months before she left.

" He loves you, Liz. He is madly in love with you and he is devastated because he found that out just before you left." she explained softly. "But......."

" Is, let me tell you something." she cut her off. " Max is your brother. I can't ask you to stop loving him or protecting him, but he hurt me that day. He made fun of me with his girlfriend....." and then Isabel cut her off screaming over the phone.

" HE BROKE UP WITH HER, LIZ!!!"

" Isabel don't shout at me. I agreed to talk to you and I think I derserve some of your respect, don't you think? Look, when I met him that day in the store, he was all of a sudden finding out that I was a woman! Is that not Incredible? He found out that I was a woman and that he was in love with me, all in one day. And all that happened the day before I left. Isabel, do you really think I'm happy here, exept that I always wanted to go to Harvard. Do you think that I wouldn't rather be with all of you guys like we had planned for years.But now I'm here, alone, in this beautiful college! But I'm all alone!" Liz said on the edge of tears. She really meant what she said, she would rather be with them in Las Cruzes, instead of being here at Harvard, all alone.

" I'm sorry Liz, but I'm sure that he is just as miserable without you as you are without him. And let me tell you that staying in the same appartment with Michael isn't going to be a real pleasure for him. Michael is infuriated with him because of you and Alex is sad because of you and my brother has to live with them. Do you have any idea what that must be like for him." once again Isabel let her anger get the best of her.

" It's the same for me, to be living with girls I don't even know. Tell me Isabel, did Tess came to see him yet? I'm sure that she wouldn't want him to feel miserable, and you know what? He will forget about me. He will go to her because she is an expert with men, and you brother is no role model of faith. He will fall for her, like the others." she said bitterly. She didn't want to hope that something could change with Tess at the same college, and she was thousand miles away from him. She knew that Tess would do anything to get what she wanted. And she wanted Max.

While they were talking Alex came into their appartment.
" DO YOU WANT TO HEAR SOMETHING INCREDIBLE? he asked without realizing that Isabel was on the phone. " Tess just came by to ask Max if he wanted to go to the movies with her, if you had seen the way she was clinging to him. And that asshole, he said that he would invite her in his room the next time! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?" he cried infuriated. When he stopped talking he realized that the 3 girls were staring at him weirdly. " WHAT? Did you lose your tongues or what?" he asked irritated. He couldn't believe that the girls didn't hit the ceiling hearing this news.

He heard a voice from the phone Isabel was holding." ISABEL! I WANT TO TALK TO ALEX! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THAT BITCH AND YOUR BROTHER! RIGHT NOW!!" Liz yelled over the phone, without realizing that maybe someone could get scared to hear her yell like that.

" Who is on the phone?" Alex asked dumbfounded. " Who is yelling like that?" he added. Maria came to stand beside him. " You just couldn't keep your big mouth shut, could you Alex!! That's Liz on the phone... and now she wants to talk to you." she turned her back to him and took the phone from Isabel and handed it to Alex. " Here, now you've got the oppertunity to tell her your little story. Liz seems very interested, you idiot!" and she walked over to the couch and sat down.

Alex looked at he phone as if he was holding a bomb. Actually it could be a bomb since Liz was on the other end of the line and she had heard him talking about Max and Tess. He realized that he was in a very bad position. He was the man who had some bad news to tell, and he wished he wasn't that man. He was startled when he heard Liz yell at the other end. " ALEX!!! DON'T LET ME YELL LIKE AN IDIOT!!"

" Humm...hummm! Liz, is that really you? I'm so happy to hear your voice Lizzie!" he said with his most sugary voice. He really was happy to hear her voice, he had missed her so much, but he felt uncomfortable with the fact that she heard him and that she was waiting for him to tell her.

" WHAT? ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF ME? Me, Liz, your best friend?" she asked shocked. " I heard what you said Alex, so don't feel embarressed. I deserve some explanation from my friend, don't I?" she asked louder. " What's going on with Max and Tess? I heard you talk about them but I could understand what you said. SO?" she asked crossing her arms even when no one could see her.

" Liz you weren't supposed to hear that. I mean I didn't knew you were on the phone with Isabel. Liz, she just came..." he began.

" But I heard you saying something about Max and his room." she cut him off. " You have no right to keep this from me, your my best friend and I want to know!" she stated stubornly.

" Okay Liz. I'm going to....." he couldn't finish his sentence because the door opened violently and an infuriated Michael walked in as if it was his own appartment.

" THAT JERK!! THAT ASSHOLE!! He doesn't even respect the woman he says he loves." he yelled. Michael was so pissed that he didn't even noticed the silence in the room, or Alex with the phone in his hand.

" What is going on Alex? Why is Michael screaming like that? And don't lie!" Liz said. She was completely confushed. She didn't know that she would be in the middle of such a mess when she decided to call her friends.

" Wait a second, Liz..." Alex started to say. " LIZ?? Liz is on the phone??" Micael asked completely devastated to know that his friend had heard him screaming. " Did she hear me?" he asked Alex softly. He didn't have to wait for the answer, just the look on Alex's face was enough to understand that Liz heard him. " Alex, let me talk to her."

When Alex handed him the phone, Michael looked at all of his friends in the room looking for support. But Maria, Isabel and Serena were waiting to find out what happened in the boys appartment, and most of all how Liz would react. Michael scratched his head and took a long deep breath...... " Liz? Honey how do you feel?"

" How do you think I feel, Michael! I want to know why you screamed like a pig who is about to get slaugthtered and I want you to tell me everything. I want to now THE TRUTH! SO?" she said getting impatient.

" Liz, I don't know what's really going on. I mean, he just got to the appartment when she came and she did her little show for him. I don't know if Max just talked to her to get on my nerves or if he really meant what he said." he tried to explain. Michael was angry with Max, but now that he had to explain it to Liz he was not sure that Max hadn't played a trick on him with Tess.

" Michael, I don't understand. Alex told me that he invited her into his room..." she replied.

" Yes, but I'm not sure, he maybe did that just to annoy me. Acutally, now that I'm talking to you, I can think about his attitude and I must say that he was irritated to see her, but I shouted that I'd never want her in the appartment and that was the moment he told me that in his room he could do whatever he wanted. Liz, I'm not saying this to protect you, but now that I think about it, I have my doubts." he said and was cut off by Isabel.

" Of course he said that to get on your nerves. I'm sure Liz, that Max won't let her in his room. He doesn't even like her!" she cried out for Liz to hear her.

" Liz, how are you honey? Is everything going okay for you at Harvard?" Michael asked tenderly.

" Yes, just a little boring but most of all I'm just missing you guys." she replied sadly. She felt sad for being so far away from them, but at the same time happy. She couldn't bear to see Max with Tess again and she was sure that the little bimbo would do everything to het him back.

" Liz, don't worry little sister. All you have to care about are your studies. You're at Harvard and keep thinking that you are making your dream come true. That's the most important thing. I know that you are worried about Max and Tess and everything, but don't. Take care of yourself and I'll take care of him. I won't let him make fun of you again, you can count on me!" he said wanting to reasure her.

" Michael, can anybody hear me?" she whispered. " No, why?" he asked intrigued.

" Listen to me Michael, you are like my big brother, yes? If he dares to date her again I want you to make him pay. I want you to make his life a living hell, will you do that for me because I live too far away to do it myself. I will get my revenge later. And don't worry, I know I'm lucky to be here and I won't waste my time. I want to be a pediatrician like I always dreamed to be. You see, I didn't lose my ambition. Michael I'm leaving now. Say good bye for me to the others and don't forget what I said. Promise me." she urged him.

" I promise little sister. I promise." he swore as he turned off the phone.

" HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I WANTED TO TALK TO LIZ! WHAT THE HELL! SHIT! MY BEST FRIEND CALLED ME AND I DIDN'T GET A CHANGE TO TALK TO HER!" Maria kept screaming as she was shaking Michael's arm.

I've been surprised, reading your wonderful fbs, that you didn't understand Liz's behavior with Max. Keep in mind that he hurt her, she was his best friend and because of Tess, he said things he would never have said and he realised that he was in love with her just the day before she left. It was hard for her.

The next day, after all the classes were finished, Max walked down the hallway with Isabel.

"Max, are you crazy? Did you invited Tess in your room? Come on, you couldn't be that stupid!" she cried out. "Michael just got on my nerves, he has no right to tell me who can come into my room and who doesn't." he cried louder.

"And what do you think you will gain with this attitude? Liz knows."she said abruptly.

"Liz? How?" he asked panicked.

"Michael, who else!" she retorted. "He walked into our room infuriated with you and Liz heard..." he cut her off. "Liz called? You didn't tell me that Liz had called. When did this happen?" he asked and without paying attention, he grabbed her by the arms and shook her.

"HEY hey! Calm down little brother! You are going to give yourself a heartattack if you continue like this. And don't you ever put your hands on me again." she bellowed. Actually she was more worried than upset. Max was acting like a man under the influence of drugs and she was scared.

"I'm sorry Is. I didn't mean to hurt you." he apologized. "Please tell me about Liz. When did she call and why?" and without letting her respond he asked again. "Is there something wrong at Harvard?"

Isabel looked at him, and he looked really panicked, the fool! He really cares about Liz, but he screwed up everything up with that BITCH Tess. "She called several minutes after your fight with Michael, or maybe at the same time. Anyway, she called Maria and when I asked if she would talk to me, she said yes." she said, and saw his eyes sparkling when he heard that they had talked.

"Did she asked about me? Does she want to talk to me?" he asked with hope in his voice. He really wanted to talk to her one day, if she agreed. He missed her so much.

"I talked to her before she heard Michael, and yes she asked me if I had seen you.... but she also asked me if Tess had put her claws on you. That was the moment that first Alex and then Michael came into the room, infuriated with you."

As Max bent his head without saying anything, she continued. "You made a big mistake at the worsed time, Max. We were talking quietly, and I told her how much you love her.....Max she is angry with you, and she hasn't forgiven you, yet." she said sadly. She looked at him, and he seemed devastated.

"She won't forgive me! She's going to make me pay for this for the rest of my life. She's so stubborn! I would forgive her if it was me, a 1000 times, rather than being without her!" he said in a painful tone. Isabel was right, he was in love with Liz, madly in love. He could never have thought that he could love somebody like he loved her, and she was his best friend. If someone had told him that last month, he would have laughed.

"Maax!! Don't worry, when she comes back, you can talk to her and work things out." Isabel told him, trying to sooth his worries.

"But I would have to wait years before I see her, Is! Do you think that you could call her and let me talk to her?" he asked with eyes full of hope. But seeing his sisters face, all hope got lost.

"Max, you know that I want to help you, but this would be a bad idea. She is still angry with you. I heard Michael talk to her...." he cut her off.

"What has that jerk been telling her? That I'm an asshole, that I don't deserve her, that I will cheat on her again with Tess? I'm sure he didn't waste any time to bad mouth me behind my back!" he cried out infuriated.

"No, Max. You think that your friends are against you, and if you look closely you will find out that they are really on your side. Michael told her that he was certain that you invited Tess to get on his nerves. He told her that he doesn't believe that you would cheat on her, but the most important thing is, he told her to enjoy her time at Harvard because it's her dream, and to see how things are going to work out when she comes back. See, not so bad!" she said. She couldn't tell him that Michael surprised her with what he had said. She thought that he would bad mouth Max but he didn't. "He proved that he is still your friend." she said with a smile.

"Is, listen. Sooner or later I want to talk to her. I need to do it or I will ask Mom or Dad to let me take money out of my account and I will go and see her. I'm dying here without her. I never would have thought that I would be saying this one day." he said looking at her sadly. "I don't know how I'm going to stop Tess, but I won't let her ruin the one thing I hope to share with the woman that I have ever loved." he swore.

"Max, do you remember when I told you that you were wrong about the way you were treading Liz. You told me it was none of my business. Do you see now what you have lost because of that BITCH!" she cried out.

"She is not a bitch, maybe a little clinging to much on me but she is not a bitch. You are only saying that because you don't like her and because I dated her, but I'm not with her anymore so you don't need to insult her." he said sternly.

"Maax! How blind are you? You really are that blind! Do you really think that would say something like that if I didn't know for sure that I'm right. You said it, you don't date her anymore but I'm scared that you will fall in her arms again, and so does Liz." she said without breathing but he cut her off again.

"Liz thinks that I will fall in Tess's arms again? Did she tell you that?" he asked and continued, "I won't Is. I can't do that, not because I don't date her anymore but the main reason is that I'm madly in love with Liz. I can't think about anyone but her. She is in my heart, my soul and on my mind 24/7."

"Max, I like to ask you a question, a very private question." she began shyly. She was not the kind of sister that was interested in her brothers love life, but she had to know.

"If it's really that private, then I have an idea what your question is, and the answer is NO! I've never slept with Tess, and even when it's none of you business, I've never slept with any other girl. Now the subject is closed." he said without looking at her.

* Max is still a virgin!* Isabel thought. And she promised herself to make sure that Liz would hear about this. It would be really important for their future relationship.

Just to answer one question: you wonder why nobody wants to tell Max about Tess cheating on him when they were dating. That's simple, he won't believe them. He has to see her, he has to learn by himself.

Chapter 18

On week later

Harvard

"Liz? Liz, are you there? Ha! I've found you......Oh no! Don't tell me that you are still studying while everybody else is enjoying this beautiful day. Look it's sunny outside and you look pale, like a ghost. You're scary!" Shiri said looking at her with concern. "Look, come outside. There is a friend of mine who wants to meet you." she insisted.

"Shiri, leave me alone! I've a ton of work to do and I've told you already, I'm no there to have fun! I'm here to study and I plan to do so despite your little schemes, my little friend. Shiri, I'm sorry. You must think that I'm the most boring roommate, but I have a goal in my life and I don't want to fail. Can you understand that?" she asked softly.

"Of course I understand, Liz. But that doesn't mean that you have to spent every day in your room, or in class. Even when you dare to leave this room, you go to the libary. I'm worried about you, Liz. You are still young and you have to enjoy your life. You don't even want to meet guys, and everbody is starting to wonder why." she said sitting on her bed.

"Shiri, I'm not interested in any of the guys......" she started to explain, but Shiri cut her off. "WHY? I don't understand! You're beautiful, smart and oh yeah funny when you want to be. So why don't you want to go out with one of them? You know that you're driving them mad, and they are starting to wonder. Liz, are you gay?" she asked flatly.

"WHAT? NO!!! Of course not. Shiri, listen, it's just too soon for me. I don't want to talk about my private life, but believe me when I tell you that it is too soon for me to go out with any guy." she said with tears swimming in her eyes.

Shiri sat next to her and gave her a big hug. "I'm sorry, Liz. I never meant to bother you. I just wanted to wake you up a little. Life is too short and complicated, and I've told you already that no man deserves our tears, even the good ones. I won't bother you again Liz, but promise me that as soon as you finish that damn homework you will come outside and have fun with us. You can't miss us, we're right outside on the grass, okay?" she asked kissing her on the cheek. "Okay Liz, will you come?" she asked again.

"I know that you're not going to leave me alone before I say yes. But I'm not going to make any promises, I will do my best and try to join you later, happy?" she said with a smile.

"It's better then nothing! I'll wait for you. Bye girlfriend, see you later!" she shouted as she left the room.

Liz stayed behind and started to reflect on what Shiri told her. Why shouldn't she enjoy her life like Shiri and her friends. She was the only one who studied like that, the others took their time to have fun, hanging out together and still study. Why was she unable to do that. One name came to mind, MAX! He was the reason why she couldn't have fun with the others or go out with guys. *Funny!! He is enjoying his life, and I'm sure that he's with Tess or any other girl in Las Cruzes since I'm here, and still moping in my room. Shiri is right! I'm too young to continue like this.* she thought.

She closed her books and went to the bathroom to take a shower. She decided to go out today, damn her studies! While she was in the shower, her phone rang.

Las Cruzes

"She didn't answer?" Max asked Isabel. "Try again, please. I really want to talk to her. She has to know that I'm feeling miserable without her. That I regret everything that happened between us. Try, Is, please." he said pleading.

"Max, maybe she's out with some friends. After all, you can't expect her sitting by the phone waiting for you. She doesn't even know that you desperately want to talk to her. Your behavior lately, doesn't give her a reason that she wants to know what you are doing." she said trying to be honest with her brother.

"I know, I did my best to get on Michael's nerves with Tess. But damn, he had no right to tell me how to live my life, Is. I'm a big boy, and I know better than to let Tess back in my life again. I'm just infuriated that he told Liz. What a jerk!" he said punching the door.

"Max, Michael just told her the truth, you said that you wanted to invite her into your room, how did you expect him to react? He's Liz's best friend. You're lucky that he didn't punch you in the face that day. An be honest, did you change you behavior since then? NO! You keep on going in the same way. She won't trust you Max, if you don't change." she said angry.

"I've already changed, Isabel. Since that day I saw Liz in the store, I've changed. I realized, a little too late I agree, that she is the one for me, that I'm madly in love with her. Before she left I gave her a gift, telling her how much I love her. What more do you want me to do?" he cried out exasperated.

"Let me try again. Maybe she came back." she said softly. When she looked at him she saw that he was on the edge of tears and started worrying about him. "She still isn't answering. I'm sorry Max. Listen, let's get some work done and I will try again in the afternoon." she said and took him by the arm to walk out of his room.

"I can't go, Is. I'll stay here and wait for you. My head hurts and it feels like it's going to explode. I prefer some sleep instead of meeting the others again. Please?" he pleaded again.

"Okay, Max, I'm leaving now but I'll be back soon." she kissed him on the cheek and left.

A little later she met Michael, Maria and Alex in the hallway. "Hey! Where is Max?" Michael asked.

"He doesn't feel so good, he wants to rest a little in his room. I'll go check on him later." she said. She saw Michael frown. "What? Do you have a problem with Max staying in his room?" she inquiered roughly.

"Don't be stupid, please! I worry about him, maybe you think that I don't care but I can see that he doesn't feel good since the other day. He was my friend and still is my friend despite of everything that happened. I worry about him even if I want to hit him for what he said about that bitch the other day." he said blushing. He didn't like to show his feelings, but he knew that his friend didn't know how to make that step back and hang out with them again, even if he desperately wanted too.

"He feels sick about what happened with Liz, Michael. He's depressed and I don't know what to do to help him. He didn't want to study and he didn't want to hang out with me. He said that he wouldn't want to keep me away from you guys, and I don't know what to do anymore! I even agreed to call Liz for him so that he could talk to her......" but Maria cut her off before she could finish her sentence.

"ARE YOU CRAZY? Liz would never agree to talk to him. Isabel forget that idea and don't bother Liz with Max anymore. She deserves to be happy and if she finds happiness far away from us, so be it. We should be happy for her!" she yelled. "I can't believe that you would betray her like that!" she screamed.

Michael pulled her in his arms. "Shhh...Maria, calm down please. Listen, if Isabel thought that she should call Liz for Max's sake, you should not yell at her about that. Max is her brother and I understand that she wants to protect and help him. I'm sure that Isabel will ask Liz first if she wants to talk to Max. Am I right, Isabel? You will ask her first before you let him talk to her?" he inquiered, still stroking Maria's hair.

"Of course I will. And don't worry, I couldn't reach her this morning. Maybe she was hanging out with some friends. But he is even more depressed after that. Michael is right Maria, Max is my brother and I'll do what's best for him...."but she was cut off by Alex. "But Liz is our best friend. And if she decides that she doesn't want to talk to Max, you stop bothering her!" he said grabbing Isabel's arm. "First of all you have to respect her wishes. And that she is gone is Max's fault as much it was her wish to go to Harvard." he added.

"Alex, Liz is our best friend, but I'm your girlfriend! I'm surprised to see you act this way towards me. I hope that you are not going to be against me one day because of her!" she said on the edge of tears.

"Honey, I'm not against you. I just want you to see that you have no right to bother Liz because of your brother. He knows what he did in the past and that he deserves her grudge. He knows that he hurt her deelply because she was in love with him. I KNOW THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT! But that's no reason to bother her now. Max has to pay for his mistakes, and yet, I'm not so sure he learnt his lesson according to his recent behavoir!" he said angry. He couldn't accept to see his best friend hurt by that jerk that made her leave family and friends.

"Okay, we're all friends. I would say best friends, and this is not the time to fight. We have to stick together. There is only one person we should check out and fight and that's Tess. I think we should work together instead of looking who's to blame. I would like for us to be the friends we always were, and try to make things right between Max and Liz." Michael declared.

Everybody stayed silent for a second after Michael's statement. Then Maria started clapping. "You're the best Mickey! and you're right. We're friends and we have to stay close and fight that whore." she said taking Michael's hand and making the others hold hands too, stating. "We're friends" and they hugged, and smiled. They felt like the Muskateers.

During their little conversation, someone took advantage of the situation to pay Max a little visit in his room. She opened the door quietly. "He did say that I could come into his room...Max, you will be mine today!" Tess said with a delvilish smile on her face, and she locked the door behind her.

Chapter 19


Max was lying on his bed, with an arm over his eyes. He was thinking over and over again about Liz, and his crazyness. He kept cursing himself for that. He had been dating the wrong girl when he had a pure diamond right under his nose, and he had hurt her, deeply. What would he have to do to take her pain away and make things right. All of a sudden he felt somebody sitting down on his bed.

"Isabel, I want to be alone.... I'm not in the mood for...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE? WHO GAVE YOU A KEY?" he yelled when he saw Tess in his room. He stood up and brushed his hand through his hair. "I've asked you a question, Tess. What are you doing here and how did you get into my appartment?" he said and took a deep breath.

She stood up, swaying her hips when she walked toward him. "Did you forget that you invited me to come to your room, hoonney. So here I am." she said brushing his cheek seductively.

He shook his head. "How did you get into the appartment, the door was closed. Did you pick the lock with a pin or did you steal a key?" he asked as he took a step back from her.

"Nothing like that, the door was open. I only had to turn the knob and come in. What do you think, that I'm a burglar or something. Hey, you told me that I could come when I wanted to, or did you lie to me?" she said angry.

"Exactly, I lied. I said it to get on Michael and Alex's nerves. I never meant it. Sorry if I made you believe that, but I've changed my mind about you." he said sternly, looking straight in her eyes.

He started to wonder what he ever saw in Tess, she looked like a slut with her boobs almost hanging out of her top, he wondered why he was attracted to her once. She was a nice girl but she could never be the woman who owned his heart. Thinking about that, a vision of the dark haired girl who did owned his heart appeared in his mind, the one and only, Liz.

"Max, why are you here, all alone and sad when your friends are outside? Is that what they think friendship is. Leaving you all alone when you obviously need someone by your side?" she asked with a sugary voice.

"They didn't leave me alone, they had classes to attend and I decided to stay here. ALONE! So Tess, could you do me a favor and GET OUT OF MY ROOM, AND OUT OF MY LIFE TOO!!!" he yelled to her and Tess was startled. She thought that he had lost his mind.

"MAAAX! Calm down! I'm not you enemy here, it's just the opposite. I'm your friend and I came here to make you feel better. I'm an expert in that. Let me try it." she said rubbing her hand over his chest.

He pushed her hand away. "Leave me alone, Tess! I don't need anybody, and most of all not YOU! Why can't you understand when I said NO NO N.O., that's not so complicated is it? I'm not interested in you as a friend or a girlfriend. And I don't want you to make me feel better. If you want to sleep with a man, find another one, I'm not interested in sleeping with you." he said quietly. He meant it, ever since he found out about his feelings for Liz, he couldn't bear to be around Tess, he broke up with her because of that.

"Do you really mean that. Do you really want me to go? Because I'm sure that you won't say no if I show you what I want to do to you, and all the things I can do with you beautiful body. Let me show you." her hands on his waist trying to unzip his pants.

Max jumped back like he was bitten by a snake, and to tell the truth she was more dangerous than a snake. "HELL NOOOO....GET OUT OF MY ROOM TESS!! I DON'T WANT YOU! I DON'T WANT YOU IN MY LIFE. DO YOU HEAR ME NOW......I WANT YOU OUT OF MY LIFE FOREVER!!!" he screamed with a digusted look.

"MAAAXX!!" she whinned.

"WHAT? If I refuse to sleep with you, are you gonna force me. TO RAPE ME?" he screamed again.

For once Tess was speechless. Yes, she wanted to sleep with him, but she would never rape him. Where did he get that insane idea from. Before she could answer the door opened and Isabel walked in. "MAX? What's going on in here?" she asked anxious to find out why Tess was in his room. "Did you invite her?"

"NO.... and you don't have to worry because Tess has understood perfectly what I said, and she's leaving right now, aren't you Tess?" he asked looking straight into her eyes.

"Yes, I'm leaving. Max, I don't know what's going on with you, but I hope that soon you will come to your right mind and then we'll continue what we started in Roswell. I'm still your friend." she said as she walked out.

"Max, why did she come here?" she asked with concern.

"She came and offered me to make me feel better, to make it short, she came because she wanted to sleep with me." he said coldly.

"And what if I didn't came back, would you have done it? Would you have slept with that bitch?" she asked angry.

"NO, of course not, if you had came back sooner, you would have seen that I was throwing her out of my room." he said roughly. "GEEZ,....Isabel, have some faith in me! I'm not going to cheat on Liz now that I've found out that I'm madly in love with her and I've never slept with any girl even when Liz and I were just best friends!" he said hurt.

Isabel hugged her brother. "I'm sorry Max, I do have faith in you." she said kissing him on his forehead. "Why are you here, by the way. And where are the others?" he asked, suddenly realizing that she was back from her classes so soon.

"They decided to go and have some drinks, and I came back to see if you wanted to come and join us. Max, I can't bear to see you like this. Closing yourself off from the outside world. Look, even Liz might have some friends to hang out with. Why don't you come with us?" she asked.

He ignored her offer. "Is, can you do me a favor, please? Could you try to call Liz again. I'd like to take this oppertunity since the others won't come back soon and try to talk to her first." he pleaded.

Isabel saw the hope in his eyes, and she knew that he was hurt by Liz's attitude. He really longed to talk to her, to make her forgive him, and she was certain that he wanted to apologize too...but what about the others....what will they say when they find out that she called Liz again. She looked at her brother....and gave in.

"Okay look, the others were very angry with me about the call, they want you to stop to bother Liz. Do you really need to talk to her?" she asked but when she saw his eyes full of hope, she knew she would agree to call Liz for her brother's sake.

"Is, I need to talk to her like I need the air to breathe. I know that you can refuse because you think I lost all my rights to contact her because of my behavoir, that I'm responsible for her leaving for Harvard....but please, do it for me and let's call her." he said kissing her cheek. "Pleease Isabel!" he begged.

"Okay, but I'm sure I'm gonna be killed by Maria and Alex as soon as they find out, but my brother comes first. Let's call her!" she said with a smile.

Max felt like his heart was going to explode, that he had to put his hand on his chest to try to sooth the pain. He knew that Liz was going to answer the phone this time and he was scared to death if she would agree to talk to him or ignore him. "Rrrriiinnggg.....rrrriiinnnggg." he was holding his breath and waited.
