Chapter 11
When Max lightly tapped on the window 15 minutes later Liz had changed into a pair of shorts and had a light sweater on over her cami. It wouldn’t do any good to have him distracted the whole time they were talking.
“Is there anything wrong?” Max asked urgently, stepping past her into her bedroom.
“No…nothing urgent,” Liz quietly replied, glancing at the clock. It was almost 2 a.m. no wonder he thought it was urgent, “I’m sorry for calling so late Max, I just…I had to get something off my chest.”
His expression still solemn he took a seat next to her on the bed, keeping his eyes level with hers though she refused to look at anything but the
floor.
“Max…Aaron and I…we’re going out…” she started to say nervously.
“Listen…if this is just going to be you telling me to stay away, and that there’s no more us, then I don’t see what the point of me staying is and quite frankly I’d like to get back to sleep,” Max snapped. Liz looked at him, her mouth opening and closing as if she were trying to say something but couldn’t.
“No…Max, it’s not about that…I was going to say, we’re going out, BUT….I don’t know I’ve been just thinking about you a lot lately, you won’t get out of my mind....when I was with him, it was like you were there too, just, lurking around the corner,” Liz said quietly.
“And?” Max gently prodded.
“…And I’m just…I’m so confused, I mean I’m even beginning to compare your kisses to his! It has to stop but I don’t necessarily WANT it to stop and I need help Max can you help me?” Liz said all in one breath, exhaling deeply at the end.
She glanced up and a small smile flickered on Max’s face for a brief instant, “Are you saying that you want me to help you get me out of your mind…or sort out your feelings?” he asked, his amber eyes boring into her soul.
“Maybe a little bit of both?” she admitted gingerly, “I don’t want to admit it, but I have feelings for you…strong feelings, and well they aren’t really paying attention to me when I tell them to go away, so I guess I’ll have to either adapt to them and learn to ignore them or face the truth, even though I know there are some consequences that will go along with the truth.”
The silence was overwhelming as Liz quietly glanced up, daring to look in Max’s eyes after she finished talking.
“I can’t tell you what to do…I can strongly advise you, but I can’t control you Liz, what do you really think you should do deep down in your heart?” Max asked, placing his hand over his heart.
“My heart says to be with you…to just fuck Tess let her do what she wants…be happy…by then my brain has to go and speak up, and it’s telling me to stick with Aaron, you belong with Tess, it’s your destiny and I’m no part of your destiny,” Liz poured her heart out in that speech, her shoulders slouching when she was done.
“Liz….I decide what my destiny will be, I make it, not some people thousands of thousands of miles away,” Max told her.
“I’m sorry for breaking the promise before…breaking the deal, I’m sorry I was so weak and couldn’t handle the whole thing with you and Tess…but I’m stronger now. Max, take her to prom…date her, I’ll be fine as long as you don’t completely shun me in public,” Liz said, smiling slightly at the look on Max’s face.
“Tell me…am I dreaming?” Max replied, a look of pure joy on his face, “Is this true?”
“Yes Max…I’m sorry for jerking you around so much, actually I wouldn’t be surprised if you spat in my face and told me to go to hell that you’d never take me back after…” Liz started to ramble, stopping instantly when Max leaned forward and placed his mouth over hers.
“Liz….shut up,” he said, laughing. She blushed and leaned in, kissing him again. It felt so good to be here in his arms again. She felt bad about leading Aaron on, but she was stronger now…she could handle it.
“Max, we need to get some sleep...” Liz said, giggling as he kissed her neck, tickling her a bit.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep I’m so happy, where’s your bracelet?” Max asked.
It took a second for Liz to register what he was saying, “Oh! Hold on,” she got up and walked over to her jewelry box, unlocking it and taking out the bracelet. Max took it from her and clasped it on her left wrist, kissing it before pulling her down on the bed next to him.
“Will it be ok if I stay here tonight….?” Max asked softly as she lay with her back pressed against his body. She silently nodded and he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. There was no way he was ever letting her go again, not now that he had her back.
*hides from shouts and stones, lol* I sorta hate this chap myself, but I had to get it out eventually....
