PART ELEVEN

_____________________________________________________________

“I saw the crash…”

Liz blinked, “You what?” She couldn’t have heard him right. He did not just say that.

“Well, say something.” Max urged.

“You saw the crash?”

Max nodded, “I saw the crash.

Liz swallowed, “As in the ship we came in?”

He nodded again.

“Liz, I saw your ship crash.” Max took a deep breath and waited for her to react. She didn’t. She just stared at him. “Liz?” he asked apprehensively, “talk to me?”

“Uh, um…”

“Liz,” he touched her shoulder, “TALK.”

Getting herself together, she tried to figure out what to say, “What did you see?”

“I saw…planets, stars, I saw the inside of the ship as it crashed…” Max stopped there, he didn’t feel comfortable talking about seeing a crash like that. He heard the sounds of the people inside.

Max blinked, waiting for Liz to say something. It took a minute, Liz let sink in. Max’ first impression was about ask what else he saw, but she didn’t. She wanted to know if he was okay.

“Are you all right?” she asked touching his cheek. Sure him seeing the crash was important but she wanted to know if he was okay, that was more important to her. He swallowed and gave a soft nod, “Yeah, it was hard to see that though.”

“I’m sorry you had to see that.”

“Liz, it’s not like you meant for that to happen.”

“I still sorry.” What Liz didn’t tell him, although Max knew was that Liz always had this feeling of guilt, she never knew what or where it came from, but she always had it with her. A loneliness, practically tangible atmosphere around her. Something from a past she didn’t know about or remember the slightest thing about that gave her this feeling of sorrow and guilt.

“It’s not your fault.” Max’ words sunk into her, “It’s not your fault.”

Alex helped Isabel out of his parents other car, they owned two cars for themselves and let Liz and Alex use the Jeep. But, since Liz and Max had the jeep tonight, his mom let him use her car. Something she normally was hesitant about because of Alex’ distaste for driving but, since her son was finally going with someone he really liked she let him use it.

“Sorry that you didn’t like the movie. I didn’t know it was going to be that bad.” Alex chuckled, that was the last time he went to a movie with Freddie Prinze Jr. in it.

Isabel took his hand in hers, “Hey, dinner was good.” She smiled. “We should do this again sometime, without Freddie.” She said as they reached her door, her mom was home tonight and from the looks of it so was her father.

“Thanks Alex,” She said leaning up and kissing him lightly. She felt her heart beating in her chest heavily as she noticed how red his ear became.

“Thanks, Is-” he cleared his throat, “Isabel.”

“Good night, I’ll call you later.”

Alex just nodding, he couldn’t do anything else.

_____________________________________________________________

“Michael, I don’t think we should do this,” Maria swallowed as Michael kissed her neck softly, they had met under the pretense of working out their differences so the group wouldn’t be so divided on things.

“Agreed.”

“Then why are we doing it?” She asked breathlessly.

Michael pulled away from her and gazed into her eyes with affection and teasing, “Because it’s fun, it feels good, and I’m just so darn sexy?”

Nodding before she grabbed him again and started kissing again, she managed to get out an ‘OK’.

“We have to be quite, My dad might wake up.” Michael motioned to the door. Where his dad was passed out on the couch in the other room.

“Okay,” just as Maria said that, her cell phone started ringing. “I’m going to kill-” She was cut off by the sound of Michaels phone

“Hello?” he answered.

“Yeah?” Maria answered.

Michael scratched the back of his head, “Max, dude, calm down, is something wrong?”

“Liz, what are you talking about flashes?”

“Dude, it‘s okay?”

“Okay” the both said at the same time, “I’ll be right over.”

They both hung and looked at each other, “I’m going to the café, Max is freaked about something.” Michael said.

“I’m going to Liz’s house, she said something about Max seeing something while they were making out?”

“Yup,” Michael sighed as he stood up and grabbed his keys. “That’s what Max said.” He helped Maria put on her coat. He leaned down and gave her a peck on the lips, “I’ll call you later?”

“Yeah, thanks Michael.”

“You’re more than welcome, I’m glad we worked out some issues tonight.”

Maria cleared her throat, “So am I. So am I.”

They continued talking as they left Michael house and got into different cars, waving bye to each other.

_____________________________________________________________

“So you and Max were making out and he saw things?” Maria was sitting on Liz’s bed as she paced the room.

“He said he saw things like the crash.”

Maria jumped up, “What?!” she moved closer to Liz, “He saw the crash?”

Liz nodded, “That’s what he told me.”

“Are you sure it’s real?”

Liz and Maria both shot a look in Alex’s direction, “Alex, shut up.”

Maria didn’t want Alex to rain on her parade, if this was a way to link to their past she wanted to hear more.

After all, River Dog hadn’t called them for almost a week and a half now. A lot of good it did them.

“I’m just saying are you guys sure he’s imaging this?” he asked them frankly. “I haven‘t experienced it and as far as I know Maria hasn‘t.”

“I’ve seen things, things from inside him. “ Liz answered looking down at the floor. “What kind of things did you see?” Maria asked inquisitively, when Liz blushed and didn’t answer she just pushed more.

“Come on, you know that this important, if it’s real you have to let us know.”

Liz still refused, feeling that it was none of their business, “I can’t tell you that. They’re his private thoughts, and I won’t put them on display for you guys.”

“Liz, as your brother, I ask you to be sure before you get excited about it okay?” Alex said, trying no to get too worked up about this, River Dog not calling them again left him with sting. They were planning on going to the reservation, to see what happened, but it still didn’t change the fact that he felt betrayed.

Liz went over to her desk and pulled out one of the stones hat River Dog had given her, “What about these? River Dog said they magnify our abilities, maybe that’s why we had those visions.”

Maria suddenly beamed, her face mirrored that of someone with a brilliant idea. “Well, I think I should do my own research on this topic, don’t you think?” Maria smiled and left the room, “I’ll call you as soon as I find out anything!” leaving to find Michael.

Liz and Alex looked at each other.

“Michael.”

“Michael.” They both said at the same time.

“Well,” Alex started. “I think I need to make a phone call.” He walked into the hall he was going to call Isabel.

Liz stood in the middle of her room, wondering where everyone just went.

“Hey you guys?”

_____________________________________________________________

Monday, Liz sat in Topolsky office again.

“So, Liz, have you ever been in trouble with the law?” Kathleen asked.

Liz shook her head, “No. And I don’t plan on it.”

“Good.” She smiled, “I’m glad to hear that.” She marked her pad of paper. “Liz, how do you feel about abuse?”

“What kind of abuse?”

“Just, in general.”

“I hate it. All kinds.” Liz answered, she was beginning to feel disgusted by this lady, and just the other day she was starting to like…kind of.

“Right, tell me what you would do if someone hurt your family?”

The breath left Liz’s lungs, this was the second times she had asked Liz a question like that. It was beginning to make her mad, “Why? Are you planning on someone hurting my family?”

Topolsky responded, “Oh, no, no. Just routine questions. You know.” She winked at Liz. “Don’t worry, Liz. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about it’s that you worry all of the time.”

Liz clenched her jaw and waited for her to finish. So far, all her and Topolsky ever did was talk about useless stuff that didn’t have anything to with school. Liz wondered why, every time she talked to Alex or Maria all either of them could do afterwards was complain about how all she talked about was their classes.

“Nice talking to you Liz,” Kathleen smiled, “But I think it’s time for you to get to your next class.”

_____________________________________________________________

“Summers, I told you, keep an eye on them!” Topolsky yelled, “Who do you think they yell at?”

Summers instantly regretted bringing up the fact that he’d been slacking in his efforts over the past few days. After his car had broken down he’d been a little less detailed in his search for the ‘truth of Liz Parker’.

“Pierce said that we need to watch her at all times!” Topolsky yelled in her hotel room. She was furious, here she was posing as a school counselor and dealing with more than just Parker and her friends; while Summers couldn’t handle just following them around.

“Do you realize what this’ll do to my report? Once Smith or Pierce finds out that you haven’t been watching them he go in for the next phase without any real evidence that this is the right person!”

Summers scoffed, “What are you saying, that you’re having doubts?” He couldn’t believe his ears, she wasn’t truly started to like this kid was she?

“Yes. NO!” Topolsky switched. She corrected herself a little too late by the look on his face.

Topolsky pulled out her gun and walked over to Summers, he backed up a little when she pointed it to his head, “What I’m about to say never leaves this room okay?”

When he didn’t answer, she repositioned the gun, this time lower. He immediately responded, “Okay! Okay! I promise!”

Topolsky put the gun down, “I’ve been watching her for a long time and going over some the agency files we’ve collected on her and the other aliens, she doesn’t fit the profile if you ask me.”

Summers laughed, this was too good to be true. The head of this part of the investigation was starting to believe this girl was innocent. “Of course she doesn’t match the profile, she can change the way she looks!” he put his hand back in the air when she pointed the gun at him again.

“Stop laughing and listen!”

He nodded his head, he might not be a big tough guy but he still didn’t like the thought of someone holding a gun to him. Topolsky sighed and sat on her bed,

“You see, this alien that killed all those people, it was evil. Didn’t have any regard for human life what so ever. How did we find out about this girl?” she already knew the answer but wanted him to give it to her anyway. “Um…a bullet hole in a shirt?” She nodded, “She healed this boy, she didn’t have to, in fact she could have just walked away and no one would have known she was at the café that day.”

Kathleen took on a softer tone than before, “If she was this alien that had such disregard for human life then why did she heal him?” She had put a lot of though into this, and her doubts of Liz being this monster were beginning to mount. “It doesn’t make sense, if she was a cold hearted killer, then why does she heal some teenager she know only through class?”

He didn’t know what to say, she had a point but that still didn’t change the fact that she was a suspect. Well, really the only suspect. “Max and Liz, from what I’ve gathered are dating. I don’t know if it’s serious or not but, they are dating.” Summers had worked it out in his mind, Liz saved Max to throw off the FBI. Now she was dating him to make them think she was no danger. It turns out her plan had worked with Topolsky; she didn’t want any harm to some to Parker until they proved she was the killer.

“Maybe she’s trying to make us think she isn’t a killer?” Summers added, hoping to knock some sense into Kathleen.

“If she wanted to throw off she wouldn’t have healed him. They’re not dumb.”

Kathleen put her gun away. That feeling that she about something happening with the Special Unit had become more intense, this time she was waiting for it to happen.

_____________________________________________________________

“Michael,” Maria breathed, he was kissing her up and down her neck, leaving little trail of fire where his mouth went.

“Do you see anything?” she asked, although she wasn’t paying much attention on getting flashes. “Not yet,” Michael came up to kiss her on the mouth, “You?” he pulled back and looked in her eyes. “No anything relevant to the current situation,” she reached up and kissed him again, “But, practice makes perfect.”

“What am I trying to see?”

Maria gulped, “Uh…stars…..the crash….anything really.”

Michael began kissing her again and Maria lost track of her thoughts. Now she was focused on Michael. She really cared about him, since his speech at the Crashdown a week ago she had seen him in a totally different light, a good one. Too bad, they were both just so stubborn.

_____________________________________________________________

“Isabel!”

Alex smiled as she opened the door, he was right on time. “Alex, so nice to see you again,” she said softly, knowing what it did to him. He was a sucker for punishment, her punishment.

He enjoyed her company, she was kind, didn’t judge him based on what he was. And looked past his ‘geeky’ exterior. He hooked his arm in her and led her down to the jeep, he somehow managed to convince Liz to let him borrow it even though she had plans with Max. She just said that he should have a fun time tonight, her and Max where just going to do more ‘research’ as everyone had been calling it.

“What were we doing tonight?” He asked with a nervous chuckle, it seemed to be like his trademark. Whenever he was around her, he would chuckle like that. “I was thinking a movie?” Isabel suggested she hoped he didn’t think that was too boring or simple, she just felt like having a nice evening out.

“Sure, Isabel, where ever you want to go, I’m happy. Just no Freddie.”

As they were on their way to the theater Isabel brought up the subject of this kid that just moved to town. “Did you meet the new guy?” Isabel asked, she had seen him in her math class today, she couldn’t remember his name too well. “No, what new guy?” Alex looked over to her, he was surprised she brought it up, Roswell High got a lot of new kids. “I don’t know he said his name was like…Chris, Kyle, or something, I’m not sure.”

Alex got out of the jeep when they reached their destination. He walked over to her side and opened up the door, “My lady,” Isabel smiled at his charm. “Alex, please tell you don’t say that to every girl?”

Alex shook his head, “Only the most beautiful one. You.”

Isabel sighed and took his hand as the walked into the theater.

_____________________________________________________________

“Max,” Liz kissed him, it was happening again. She couldn’t help herself, as soon as she saw him in the Crashdown he led in the back and here they were, on the couch, praying someone didn’t walk in. Max held her, breathing her in.

Savoring the time with her, Liz was quickly becoming the thing he looked forward seeing everyday. It was just him and her, in this perfect moment, kissing and holding each other. He figured if wasn’t love he didn’t know what people by being in love. He lived for her smile, her touch. He adored how protective she was of everyone, she felt like it was her responsibility to care for them. Anytime he could sneak a private moment with her he took it.

Liz gulped as they sat on his couch in the back area in the café, he touch was like fire. Creating a trail of shivers wherever he touched. Any fantasy she had of kissing him didn’t even come close to the real thing, he was like a drug. Her heart began to beat faster when she began to see his thoughts about her. They surprised her. She never thought anyone could see her that way. He thought she was everything he wanted. She felt tears come to her eyes while they were kissing.

This was something so special, this moment between them. This was real, this was true, and it was perfect. If no could be convinced that they were meant to be together by now they would never be convinced.

Suddenly, Liz felt a change, it was growing more intense. This how it was when Max had the first flash. Max stopped, “Liz, I think I saw it again.” Liz pulled back, “you did?” she asked, she was out of breath as she spoke. “Yeah, this time, I saw something being buried…” Max swallowed hard, trying to figure it out. “I think I’m seeing someone else memory’s along with yours.”

Liz sat up, “What do you mean?”

Max turned red, “Well, I see thing that I know are from you and then I am seeing things like, I’m being chased be the FBI and I’m digging a hole in the ground.” He kept seeing something in the ground, being covered up with dirt, he could hear people in the background calling out to him and coming after him. He could feel the fear that this person was feeling as they put something that was important in the ground.

“Liz, I think it’s leading us somewhere.”

_____________________________________________________________

“Maria, I need you to come and get me.”

“Why? Where’s Alex?”

“He’s out with Isabel, listen, Max saw something really weird and I’m going to River Dog.”

Maria sat up in bed, “I’ll be right there!” She hung up, pulled on her pants, and crawled out her window, being as quite as possible. As soon as she was out of ear shot she sped up as fast as she could, getting to the Crashdown as fast as she could.

She called Alex, the phone rang about three times before she heard him answer, “Maria, what’s going on this late?” Maria stopped at a stop light, “Alex are you still with Isabel?”

“No, I just dropped her off at her house, why?”

Maria slowed at the sight of a cop, not wanting to get a speeding ticket at this time of night. “Liz just called me, she wants to go to River Dog. Something about Max having another flash of the crash.” Alex looked at the street, “Okay, I’ll be at the café in about ten minutes, don’t leave without me.”

Maria hung up the phone just as she reached the Crashdown, Liz and Max were standing outside, waiting for her. “Okay what happened?” She asked walking up to them, she caught sight of them, they were holding hands, Max had his free arm around her. As if her were keeping her warm. “Max said he saw the crash and said he saw something buried in the ground.”

A few moments later Alex pulled in, Liz and Max headed over to the jeep, hand in hand. “Wait, is Max coming?” Alex sounded confused.

Liz nodded, “He’s the one that had the flash, it’s only right that he comes.” She glanced up at him, “I want him to come anyway.”

Alex sighed as they all got in the back, “Here we go…”

_____________________________________________________________

Kalsen stood in the middle of Eddies small home. He’d been living in it for over a week now, waiting for something. Anything.

He hated waiting, despite the fact that it was part of his job. All he wanted to do was go to Roswell and take care of them himself. But he knew that wasn’t going to happen. Not with the orders Khivar and Nicolas had given them. That’s what kept him from killing them, knowing the revenge his people would have on when he brought the ’Royals’ back.

Khivars plan took time, it took trust and skill. Kalsen knew that he couldn’t return home without the most important part of the plan. Just this one thing would give his people the chance to crush the rebels and rub their failure in their faces.

As he looked at himself in the mirror he said his real name out loud for the first time in ages, Kalsen, he hadn’t used that name in so long he almost forgot what it sounded like.

He shifted his gaze from the mirror to the photo of Eddie and River Dog on an old night stand. He thought about it for a second, Eddie wasn’t the one with the answers they looked for, River Dog was. He gave a cold smile as he lifted his hand, changing himself from Eddie to River Dog.

It was then that he felt it; they were near. Two maybe three miles away at most, just enough for him to think of something to tell them. He had it all figured out in his head, the plan of how to win their trust and to get close to them. It had to be flawless other wise, it wouldn’t work.

He tried cracked his neck, but it didn’t do any good, he didn’t have any bones anyway. He then heard the sound of the jeep rolling in, and knew it was time. And as long as he didn’t have interference from the Antarians like Cal or Serena everything should go fine.

But he knew he didn’t need to worry about them, no one had heard from them since 1979 when some thought they saw Serena somewhere out side of Salt Lake City but it wasn’t for sure that it was her. For all he knew Cal and Serena might have gone home.

Time to begin the show….

_____________________________________________________________

As Alex drove Maria sat in the passenger side while Max and Liz sat in the back. They had been holding each other the entire time; Talking softly to each other on their way to River Dog. Maria knew it was a private conversation so she gave them the privacy that they needed as a couple.

Sighing she glanced over at Alex, she knew he hated driving for long time. His long legs became tired quickly so he didn’t like driving. Maria yawned, feeling sleepy. She didn’t want to go to sleep, all she wanted to do get to River dog and figure this thing out.

“Hey, how was your date with Isabel?”

Alex would have been more startled by the sudden question if he wasn’t so intent on driving. “It was great.”

He didn’t say anything else, not feeling up to it. “Did you get to do your research?” she asked with a wiggling eye brow. “Not as much as I think you did…” he laughed, it was fun to tease Maria about Michael, he’d loved doing it sense they first began to be friends with him. Just like he enjoyed teasing Liz about Max when he had the chance to. Oh how he loved his sisters.

“Alex! You nasty boy you! When did you get so snappy?” Maria couldn’t believe Alex, never before had he been so witty with people. And now, he was becoming a wit. She was so proud!

“So,” Alex cleared his throat, “Did you render any results with Michael on the pot luck of your past make out sessions?”

Maria shook her head, “Nope. You?” Alex gave the same response, this time though he knew what was happening. Max was telling the truth, after all Liz wanted to go to River Dog about it. He looked back, “hey, we’re here.” He said softly, Max and Liz broke out of their conversation and got out of the jeep.

“Do you know where he lives?”

Alex and Maria looked back at Liz who was about to speak when they heard: “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Thanks for all the feedback! Hey, check out the cool banner max and liz believer made for me on the first page! Many thanks to her for it!

It's freaking cool man!

Summers watched his TV and for once, he had the night off. And right now Taco Bell was sounding good to him. Burns, the new agent on the case was watching them tonight. Burns scared him. He never talked about his home life and when Summers asked Burns about it, he would glare at you and tell you it was no ones concern.

Burns looked like a body builder; he had no hair and one giant vessel poking out from his forehead. He was sure that Burns would get just as bored as he did after the first two hours and find something else to focus on. At least that was what Summers was hoping for.
_____________________________________________

Kalsen watched as they got out of the Jeep. He studied them as he had so many times before, everything about them screamed weakness. From what he had observed, they had barley even tapped into their abilities. He smiled gently to himself as he slowly stepped outside.

“I’ve been waiting for you.” The words flowing like blood from his mouth as he played the part of Eddie

The dust on the ground began to stir around their feet as they all jumped. The unexpected voice of Eddie had caught them off guard. They all stared at him as he stood with his arms folded a dark grin forming on his face. He seemed different to Liz, Alex and Maria first despite the fact that to anyone else, he looked normal.

Liz placed her hand over her heart, “You scared the living hell out of us!”

Eddie began talking: “River Dog died last week.”

“What?” Maria whispered loud enough so only she could hear. She glanced over at Alex who looked just dumbfounded as she was. No one was saying anything to him or asking him how he died, it was too much of shock for them.

Eddie licked his lips and shoved his hands in his pockets. “He was found. We’re not sure how he died.” He was staring directly at Max, letting him get the hint. Being to the only human here, he was hoping Max would at least be able to figure that one out. “We don’t know how he died.”

“We’re sorry,” Liz said to him. It must have difficult for him. It seemed as thought River Dog was close to Eddie. She wanted him to know that they were sympathetic to him.

However, much to Liz’s surprise, Eddie responded with as much emotion as if he had killed River Dog himself. “He was old anyway and it was getting close to his time.” This time he stared at Alex, just as he did to Max earlier.

Alex turned away from the stare it gave him the creeps. Instead, he looked down at the ground as he asked Eddie a question. “Are you worried about it?”

Eddie shook his head, “Why should I be?” He held his hands up, “I have nothing to worry about, and I didn’t know Nasedo.”

“Yeah, but you knew about him.” Liz pointed out in confusion. “And you know about us.” She stated the last comment in a softer tone.

Eddie just blew off the remark, “it doesn’t matter. I was just supposed to give you something when I saw you again.”

Maria stepped out in front of everyone, “doesn’t matter!? You like took care of the guy didn’t you?” She felt herself growing less and less interested in the flashes and the pendent and more and more frustrated with the lack of concern Eddie had for everyone. “You know like everything about us and you’re saying it doesn’t matter?”

Almost losing his mindset as Eddie, Kalsen nearly blew up at Maria. How dare she talk to him like that? “It doesn’t matter because I’m leaving the country tomorrow.” He reached in his pocket, “take this,” he handed it to Liz. “Put it back together with other half. Don’t ever contact me again.”

With that, he turned and left then there. No questions answered. No explanations.

“What did he give you Liz?” Max whispered to her. He held her free hand tightly as she opened up her palm. Everyone gathered around her, “It’s the other half of the pendent.”
________________________________________________________________

Eddie watched from the window as they drove away. This was it, he told himself; the end was beginning.

________________________________________________________________

Alex got on to the freeway, heading back to café first. He was disappointed how things turned out for them tonight. It was just weird how Eddie reacted to River Dog dying. He didn’t act upset over it or anything. Blinking to try to keep him fully aware of the road he had to snap his thoughts away from Eddie and River Dog while he was driving.

The pendent was getting to him. Something wasn’t right. And Alex was about to find out.
________________________________________________________________

“Jim, this is Ms. Topolsky, the school counselor?”

Valenti smiled at the sound of her voice, he glanced up from his desk to see her standing in the doorway to his office. “Yes, can I help you?”

She stepped into his office, her high heels making a clapping sound, “I guess,” she started out, leaning up against the set of file cabinets by his door. “You could tell me why four teenagers, none of them legal adults yet mind you, are doing at the Indian reservation this time of night?”

“They’re at the reservation?”

Topolsky nodded, “Well, were.” She walked over and sat down in one of the chairs, “They didn’t stay long.”

Yawning, Valenti sat his pen down. “Ms. Topolsky, how did you get in here?”

Flashing a smile dripping with enough venom to kill an army, “Jim, I’m the FBI, you think I’d have trouble getting into a building like this?” she asked rhetorically, “You really are a small town sheriff aren’t you?”

“Ouch,” Jim touched his chest over his heart, “That hurt.”

Crossing her legs to the opposite side Kathleen winked, “I try.”

“Well, there’s no denying I’m a small town sheriff, but at least I know not to send half witted agents out who can’t even track a group of teenagers.” He leaned back and waited for her to respond.

“And what do you mean by that?”

“I found your man asleep outside of the Taco Bell after enjoying a dinner special for the night.” Jim smiled, “Of course, that was after he tracked them for the evening.”

“Hmm,” Topolsky shook her head, “You know, I thought wrong about you.”

“Oh, Really?” Jim sat back in his chair, “How so?”

“I thought you’ just follow the girl around, doing your own investigation. But, as I can see, you’re just riding on my coat tails.” She laughed at him, “Besides, I gave him the night off. I’ve been sent a new guy.” She made sure she watched every move Jim made, “I don’t have to worry anymore.”
________________________________________________________________

The next day none of them think of anything else but River Dog and the pendent. They got the hint that Eddie was out of the question from now on. Once again, they were on their own.

Just thinking about the situation made Alex upset, it was getting more and more frustrating just thinking about it. “Man, this sucks!” he exclaimed as he reached for his soda.

Maria‘s head shot up, “What?”

“This whole thing with River Dog and Eddie and the pendent. I hate it.” Alex said as he settled into his plastic chair. He whispered to Maria, “You know, I feel like this is partly our fault.”

This time Liz joined in, “What’s our fault, Alex?”

Alex sat up, “River Dog dying. I feel like we led someone to him, you know?”

“Eddie didn’t say he was murdered.” Liz said, hoping to be the voice of reason before everyone, including herself, started to speculate on River Dogs death.

“Yeah, but he never said he wasn’t.” Maria said staring a Liz. This had been on her mind since last night. She had gotten little sleep thinking about Eddie telling them not to contact him again and the way he handled River Dogs death.

“I’m just saying we don’t know for sure.”

“You know Liz,” Alex said not looking her in the face, “You can’t always ignore things and expect it to go away.”

“What are you talking about Alex?” she asked, offended.

Alex didn’t say anything to her; he just got up and left.

Liz quickly got up and followed him, trying to catch up to him but she couldn’t; he had gone from out of her sight. She turned back and saw that Maria was gone from the table also without a word. Liz didn’t want to admit that she knew what Alex was talking about. Despite the fact that they all had seemed to move along from the shooting it was painfully obvious that they were still feeling the consequences.

She wished they understand but she could see why they didn’t. It had brought too much attention to them. Even now, they still got weird looks from students who had heard the rumors. She asked what he was talking about and did her best to go about her day. She was getting tired of pretending.
_______________________________________________________

Topolsky heard a knock at her office door, “Come in,” she said. Expecting a student she didn’t look up until she heard Burns voice. “Ma’m?” His deep raspy voice burst out of his mouth.

“Yes,” she answered, glancing behind him to make sure no one was listening.

His voice was so deep and rough that the words seemed to scratch his throat as they came out. “Here are the reports from last night,” he mumbled as he sat them down on her desk. His burly demeanor commanded attention from anyone near him. “I’ll have the rest for you in the morning.” He wasn’t comfortable handing such important information over in the public eye almost but this was how Topolsky wanted it. The fewer things appeared secret, the less suspicious things looked. She didn’t want attention draw to herself if she left every half hour to Summers and now Burns to see where Liz and her friends were. Therefore, she simply got the okay from Pierce to have everything put into reports. This made her work easy and it took less time for thing to reach Pierce.

Topolsky nodded and grabbed them off her desk, “Thank you.” She looked up to see Liz Parker standing in the doorway, staring intently at the giant man in front of her. Liz’s short stature and Jim Burns large body made an interesting comparison when they had been placed next to each other.

Liz was small, about 5’1 and had to weigh 105 at the most whereas Burns was 6’7, 350lbs and towered over anyone near him. It came as no surprise to Kathleen that he made it in FBI.

“You wanted to speak to me?” Liz asked, not taking her eyes off the man in front of her. He was huge, and it made Liz wonder what he was doing in Topolsky office.

“Yes, but I’ll have to ask you to stop staring at my friend please.”

Ripping her eyes away from him, Liz regained her concentration. “I’m sorry,” she glanced at the floor as she tried to hide her beet red face.

Burns patted her on the shoulder, “It’s no big thang,” he said in a thick accent that was hard to place. “I’m used to it.” He walked out and left Liz and Kathleen to themselves.

“Take a seat, please.”

Liz hurried over to the chair, “I’m so sorry, but that guy’s huge!” she said in a surprised tone. “Did I piss him off?” She asked.

“No, I don’t think so,” Topolsky said to her, not looking her in the eyes. It was time for the weekly meeting. Topolsky pulled out the normal list of questions to ask.

Michael pulled his jacket on, after watching a movie at Maria’s house. “Maria, how’d it go with River Dog?”

“Well, considering that he’s dead…” Maria snapped at him. She thought he knew about that.

“What?”

She realized that Michael didn’t know what was going on and immediately felt bad for snapping at him, “I’m sorry. You weren’t there. I didn’t mean to sound angry.” She needed to stop doing that to people. She would get upset easy. Especially people she trusted or wanted to trust. She would expect them to be there or know what was going on with her without her saying a word about to them.

“It’s okay. I haven’t had the chance to talk Max yet so…” He put his arm around her,”…I am not in the know as of yet. “

Maria sighed at looked him in the eyes, “Well, let’s just say that we left with more questions than answers and Eddie won’t help us anymore.”

“Maria, I am so sorry.”

“Why?”

He rubbed her arms, “Because I know it was important to you.”

Thinking about the pendent, Maria deiced she wanted to tell him. “We have the other half to the pendent and we want to put back together.”

“Do you think anything will happen?”

“I don’t know. But if I had that vision…” Maria told herself she wanted to put it back together for answer, but she thought it would only bring even more questions. “Who knows what could happen?”

________________________________________________________________

Max sat across from Liz the next day at lunch, they went to the café for lunch.

They still hadn’t put the pendent back together. They didn’t want anything to go wrong, especially since Eddie didn’t speak to them at all it seemed. But the pendent wasn’t weighing on Liz’s mind as much as her school counselor was. She kept asking Liz questions that had little to do with school and it was beginning to make Liz suspicious. Then of course there were the flashes her and Max were getting.

“I’ve been doing some thinking, Liz.” Max reached over and took Liz’s hand in his, “Do you think the only reason we get flashes is because we connected?”

Liz wasn’t sure she was catching on, “What do you mean Max?”

Clearing his throat Max explained, “Well, remember when you reversed the connection?”

Liz nodded.

“What if that’s why we get the flashes and the others don’t? What if we’ve connected on some level that they haven’t?” Max held his breath as he waited for Liz’s response to his little theory.

“I think is makes sense.”

A sigh of relief fell over him, “So you don’t think I’m crazy?”

Liz snorted, “Crazy? You?” She pointed to him, “you only believe in aliens. How weird is that?”

“Pretty weird actually.”

“Oh.”

Taking a sip of his soda, Max asked his next question,” Do you think they’re from you’re subconscious?”

“Yeah.”

He watched her for a moment after asking the question, watching how the light bathed in a soft glow. She enthralled him.

“Liz, do you think you’ll ever go home?” the moment the words came out of his mouth he wished he could erase them. He told himself he’d never ask that question.

She didn’t answer immediately, as if she was trying to find away to word it. “I think whenever it comes down to it, none of us could leave. I know I wouldn’t. Besides, what would be on out home planet anyway?”

Max kept his eyes downcast as she spoke; not wanting to make eyes contact with her if her answer was not what he wanted.

“I mean, I have you. What more could I want?” Liz had nothing but pure honesty in her voice; “You’re everything to me Max.”

Max saw she had turned red after saying the last, “Liz, I feel the same.” He saw her head perk up, it was the truth, she did mean everything to him. Max winked at her, causing a smile out of her. He loved it when she smiled.

Just as they were sharing a nice moment between the two of them, Jim Valenti came. “Liz, it’s the sheriff!” Max whispered to her, this definitely shattered any chance of a romantic lunch with them.

Things only got worse when he started walking up to them, “Miss Parker, Mr. Evans. How are you kids doing?” He asked with artificial sweetener dripping from his voice.

Liz gulped in a drink of water, “Good, real good. Why?” Max could see it in her face haw nervous she was to have him near her like this, Max didn’t get why Jim just kept on her tail.

Jim smiled and took off his sunglasses, “I was just checking in you after the shooting, I know some people are still pretty shaken up after it. And I know you two were here when it happened.” The tone of voice was sarcastic, all directed at Liz. He was looking right at her, “I just want to protect my community, Have nice day kids.”

“Sheriff, it’s been months now.” Max said, “Its December now.”

Jim stared at him, “I just thought I’d check in.”

Liz felt sick as he tipped his hat and left. She felt tears form in her eyes as Max moved over to her side of the table and put his arms around her, “its okay Liz, he’ll leave you alone. I promise.” Max kissed her forehead, trying to comfort her.

“Max, I’m scared of what he might do.”

He shook his head; Jim was to far gone in his belief that aliens were evil that just the report of Liz supposedly healing him Jim convinced that Liz was this evil killer. “I can’t believe that man. Come on, we should get going if we’re going to be on time.” Max tugged on her to follow him out side.

________________________________________________________________

They were going to meet the others in the desert in an hour so they could put it back together, just in case something happened. Now, when they left they were a little more cautious about being followed. After a few miles out of town, they could tell they were not being followed. The only car behind them was an old Crown Vic. That passed them at the turn off to the rock formation they all agreed to meet.

“Liz, it’s okay. You got the pendent?”

Max touched her shoulder, noting that she jumped when he did so. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you.” He said softly. She just blinked and said to him, “You didn’t don’t worry.”

After that, they both got out and started to the rest of the group who were already there. Liz felt a sickening feeling come over her. She could fell something evil near them, making her shake when she thought about it.

________________________________________________________________

“Should we put it back together?”

Everyone was sitting alone out in the desert, staring at the necklace and its missing piece. “You know it’s not moving.” Alex had his head cradled in his hands; this was getting boring.

“Of we’re going to put it back together than do it. Don’t just sit around waiting for it to do it itself.”

Maria scrunched up her nose, “Shut up Alex.”

Liz laughed; they cracked her up sometimes. “He’s got point. If we’re going to put it back together we should do it now.”

Maria clenched her jaw, “Okay then.” She reached over and placed the two pieces back together….

And nothing happened.

Liz raised her eyebrow, “That’s all?”

For some reason, they were expecting more…something…bigger.

“How unexciting.” Just as Alex was about to get up it starting glowing, “What is that?” Isabel pointed to the pendent; it was glowing so bright it was hard to look it for moment.

The pendent had gone from a broken piece of metal to whole, as if nothing had happened to it. The symbol was a different color even. The background was blue and the spiral was silver and black around the edges.

Max reached over and picked it up, holding it between his fingers. “It’s back together. And it‘s freezing.” He stated simply showing it Liz; she reached over to take when she felt her self get sick. “Liz, are you okay?” Liz didn’t answer Max, she just swallowed several times before getting up and heading over to a patch of bushes.

“Liz?”

Maria called after her as she went over to where she was. Putting her hand on her shoulder Maria asked, “Liz, everything okay?”

“Yeah, I’m just not feeling good that’s all.”

Maria, knelt down until she was face to face with her, “Liz, you never ‘don’t feel good. ‘ We’ve never been sick. Why start now? What’s wrong?” Maria asked wanting an answer out of Liz now.

But she just shook her head again, “Nothing Maria, I’m fine. It’s just that Jim came by the café today when Max and I were eating and started asking us how we were doing and everything. Really creeped me out.”

Maria hung her arm around Liz’s shoulder, “Trust me I know that feeling…” She led Liz back to the others, neither of seeing the person watching them from about ten feet away.

Thank you all so much for the feedback.

Thanks to silverofroswell, I'm working on it!

Kalsen watched them place the pendent back together. He sat behind a patch of bushes about thirty feet away on top of a small hill. He could hear them perfectly, talking about how unexciting this was. He sensed how Liz was becoming ill from the pendent. He glanced down at the ground; a small hole was wearing its way into his old black leather boot. The dirt from the desert floor made color of it seem tanner than it did black. He didn’t know why this all of a sudden fascinated him. Maybe it was because it was so easy for him to just snap his fingers and they would look like new, yet after all these years of changing shape, he kept these old boots. He modified if needed to fit his feet in the past but the style and wear remanded the same. He took his mind off his boots, ‘they’re getting old anyway,’ he thought to himself as he watched the group again.

He was paying close attention to the pendent this time. Making sure nothing else happened. No one involved on either side of the war would disagree that the pendent being back together is a good - if not a great thing. It would alert the Antarians and the Skins who had come to Earth to finish the war but, it would awaken the threes powers.

The reason they moved the main battle to Earth was that the war on Sedna had almost destroyed the face of the whole planet. There were still small battles here and there back home but the big one, the one that both sides were preparing for, would have to happen on Earth.

Fifty years is a long time to wait for a war to take place. It is also a long time to prepare and train. Kalsen knew that the Skins supplies had run out a long time ago and now that the star system that they lived in was in constant turmoil, they had to deal with what they could find on Earth. This made him upset but it meant the same for the Antarians. He luckily had with him, the most important weapon in the entire war, he had Liz’s ‘husband‘.

Two Weeks Later

“This is going to cost me almost all of my money.”

Isabel sighed as she pulled her backpack over shoulders. She and Liz were walking out to the Jeep after school.

“Well, everyone needs new tires and breaks sometime, Isabel.” Liz told her, “Be glad it didn’t blow out a tire while you were driving.” She watched Isabel’s face made a worried expression as she thought about how much money this was going to cost her.

“Yeah, but Liz how many people need new brakes and tires at the same time they’re battery goes out?”

Liz chuckled at her so-called bad luck, “Are you sure you needed new tires?”

Nodding, Isabel described to her the way her tires became so worn down that she could not see any tread in places and how her brakes made funny sounds.

“…then the mechanic looked them and said ‘these are not safe to drive on…” Isabel was stopped when a young man ran into her. “Hey, sorry,” she told him.

The young man grinned at her; he was a good-looking person. Shorter than most guys, well built with dark blonde hair. “It’s okay,” he held out his hand, “I’m Kyle,” he said. “I think we have a class together.”

Isabel reached over and shook his hand. “Oh, yeah, I know you.” She turned back to Liz, “Sorry, we should get going.” Turning back to Kyle, she waved at him, “See you around?”

Kyle nodded, “Have a nice day Isabel.” He said as he walked away.

“That’s odd,” Isabel stopped, “I don’t remember telling him my name.” She looked at Liz, “Did I?”

Liz shook her head, “Maybe he picked it from class?”

Shrugging, Isabel agreed with her, “I guess you’re right.” Just then, Isabel remembered what she wanted to ask Liz. “Okay, these flashes, what does it feel like when you get them?”

Liz intrigued her by the idea of someone seeing inside the other persons ‘soul’ so to speak. Isabel also wanted to be close with Alex that way. She really liked him and thought it was very romantic that Liz and Max could share something like that.

“I wouldn’t say you feel something,” Liz tried to articulate what the flashes were like, “Well, you feel things but it’s more like…” She thought of the words, but realized she could not find any. “I don’t know, I can’t describe it, Isabel.” Liz said with a huge smile on her face.

“Aww,” Isabel cooed in a sweet voice that changed into an angry voice, “I hate you.”

Liz was shocked, “What? Why?”

“Liz, I’m just kidding!” she began to laugh.

“I’m sorry Isabel but, I haven’t had much Human interaction until like what, two or three months ago?” Liz scolded her, trying to sound offended. “Oh, hey, did I tell that I got a new power?”

Isabel was so intrigued that she did not notice that they were nearing the Jeep. “What is it?” she asked with all of her attention on Liz. "Do you think it has anything to do with the necklace?”

Liz wrinkled her nose, “In fact, I‘m seeing something right now…I can see you having a nice evening with my brother over there in the jeep. I also see him holding to tickets to a Gomez concert and he’s wearing a cheesy tux.”

She pointed to where Alex was tuxedo and all, ready to sweep Isabel off her feet.

Isabel‘s eyes lit up as she saw him, “Why are you doing this?” she asked. This had never happened with her before. Never before had a guy done something like that.

Liz chuckled and led Isabel to Alex, “Because, I have found my little romantic flame in Max and dang it, Alex needs to some love too!” she said as she pushed her to the passenger side of the jeep. “Go! Before I forfeit on the deal and take the vehicle for the night!”

Alex started up the jeep and waved to Liz, “Thanks!”

He glanced over to Isabel, “So honey, you ready for the time of your life?”

Isabel could not believe he just called her that, “Honey?” Alex took her hand and kissed it, “Yes, honey. Don’t get mad, I could be calling you baby and love bug.”’

“Love Bug?”

“Don’t push it Isabel, I might just start calling you that.”

Summers and Burns were both taking a break, before going back to the Parkers home. Burns took a long drink of beer, “So, why do you think Topolsky hasn’t made her move yet?” he asked Agent Summers.

“Something ‘bout Parker not fitting the profile I think.” Summers said with a full mouth. “Personally, I think she’s growing soft.”

Burns was surprised at the thought of Topolsky getting soft spot for the subject. Anytime he had talked to her, she was ready to take action. He cleared his throat, “Why do you say that?” Burns was not the type of person to care what happened and to whom it happened when it came to his job and the Parker case was no different.

Summers leaned in close to Burns, “Between you and me?”

Burns nodded.

“She doesn’t think Liz is the killer.” He whispered over the table. They were at the local bar, having a drink before going back on.

“No way, she didn’t tell you that did she?”

Summers laughed, “She can’t choose which side she’s on!” he had been waiting to get this off his chest. Topolsky was going about this investigation by pretending she thought Liz was killer when she was really having doubts.

Burns began laughing along with Summers, “Please tell me you’re joking!”
This was too good to be true; he could not wait to tell the others. He stopped laughing and placed his hand on Summers shoulder, “Have you told Smith or Pierce?”

“No.”

“Have you thought about it?”

________________________________________________________________

“Topolsky, do not make me come down there!”

Kathleen held the phone away from her ear. Somehow, Pierce had found out that she was questioning Liz’s motives for healing Max Evans. “Yes, sir.”

“Topolsky, I trusted you with because I felt you were the only capable handling this case. Now I hear about this. Have you even been sending me all of transcripts from your interviews?”

“Yes, sir I have. I have held nothing back from you. But if I could please-”

She was cut off by him; “Listen to me, agent, I will give you two days. Two days to give me the word and I will send out someone to get her. This is your last chance. Understand?”

“Yes, sir. May I please say something?” Kathleen waited but all she heard was silence on the other end.

“Go ahead.”

She cleared her throat and reached for the report she as working on; “I feel as though Liz is killer we are looking for, however, I want to be sure before we go and ruined a young girls life. This will traumatize her for the rest of her life if she isn’t who are looking for.”

Sighing, Pierce, much to Toposlky’s surprise, agreed with her. “I see. But, off the record, do you have reason to doubt that she is who we are looking for?”

Topolsky opened her mouth to tell him yes, but stopped when she realized that her own feelings on the situation were what she had to go on. Nothing more than a feeling. Moreover, if she were wrong, it would ruin her career. Sadly, she lied to him, “No sir, I see no reason to believe Parker is not our killer.”

“Thank you, I will give two weeks. Have a nice night Kathleen.”

She hung up the phone surprised that Pierce addressed her in such a way. He never called anyone by his or her first name. He was strictly professional no matter what he was doing. The problem was, that, he gave her only two weeks to find proof that Liz was either, A: Human or B: just not the alien killer. Unfortunately, if it turned out to be the latter, no one would care but herself.

Tess walked into her home, “Uncle Jim?” she called out, holding a take box of his favorite Mexican restaurant. “Uncle Jim?” she turned the corner that led to his home office and found him on the phone across the room with his back to his desk and her.

“Yes, Max’s mother said she didn’t trust her. Said she thought she was a danger to her son.”

Tess listened intently as her uncle talked on the phone to some unknown person. IT didn’t surprise her that he was talking about Liz, but what did surprise her was that he had brought Max’ family.

“Parker and Evans have been dating for about a month now, I know.”

She knew that Max and Liz had been together for a while now, but is still stung every time Tess thought about it. She really liked Max and she thought he liked her. It hurt more because she never felt close to anyone other than Jim and while they were going out, Max. To have Max break up with her for someone like Parker who was the center for many school rumors was a shot to the heart for Tess, who never trusted any male. She just didn’t. Even the new guy, Kyle Langley, she did not know if wanted to trust him with more than her phone number.

“My niece, Tess went out with the boy for a while. Let me ask you, does it not strike you as odd that all of a sudden both of Max’s friends have started dating Liz’s brother and friend?”

Tess looked down to the floor and realized that she was not going to get her uncle out of his office for at least another hour. Quietly, she walked over to his desk and sat his dinner on it, and walked out. Jim never noticing once.

Summers was watching TV in motel room when suddenly, his door slammed open and Kathleen Topolsky came barging in with her gun in pointing at him. “Okay, you promised me you wouldn’t say anything about my doubt on the case!”

Jumping up from his bed, he pulled on a pair of pants to cover his boxers. Holding his hands in the air he yelled for her to calm down, “Hey, hey, hey, put the gun down!”

Not taking the gun away from his face, Topolsky yelled at him, “You have no idea what you’ve just done!” She felt tears come to her eyes, a mixture of embarrassment for the fact that trusted this person and fear that her job was jeopardy.

“I didn’t tell Pierce or Smith!”

Kathleen laughed and put her gun back in her pocket, “Really?” she asked him, “Than how come I just got call from Pierce and got my head ripped off?”

Summers shook his head, “I’m telling you I have no *freaking* clue what you are talking about!” Then it hit him; “Burns must have said something.”

Fresh tears coming to her eyes, she pulled her gun out again, only this time she pointed it his crotch. “What in the hell?!”

“I told him the other night of how you were having all these doubts about Parker being the killer and he asked if I had said anything.” He looked at Topolsky, her face was pale and she was about to cry. “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to get you in trouble.”

She put her gun away and plopped down on the bed, “its okay. I explained myself to him. Something I should have done to you.”

He reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, “Are you going to say something to Burns?”

“Are you kidding me? Have you seen the size of the man?” She rubbed her temples, “It’s just that, I’ve spent a month talking with this girl and nothing about her says that she’s a bad person, you know?” She looked at him, “I mean, have you seen her so anything that would point to her being a killer?”

He thought about it, “No, but then again, not every murderer screams ‘Killer!’ just by talking to them or going about their everyday activity. Especially one that’s been on the run.”

“I just…I don’t know…” She put her face in her hands and said softly, “I don’t want to have a young girl’s blood on my hands if she didn’t do anything. “

He agreed with her, “Right, but you also don’t want to save a murderer form death row right?” When she didn’t say anything, he just gave her a hug. He could see why she was so worried about it. If she screwed this up, it would kill her career. She would never get another case again. He knew about the shirt they got from the sheriff but he also knew that Liz cared about Max. There was no denying that. All that he could figure was that Liz had found someone she cared about and that was why she healed him. He rubbed Kathleen’s back, trying to reassure her.

________________________________________________________________

Kathleen smiled; she was going into this day with renewed vigor. She had sometime off because of the holidays and the New Year had just begun. For her, this was a fresh start. She had five days to get everything she could on Parker before Pierce and Smith came down to Roswell and she was going to be ready if it killed her.

She pulled up her list questions for Liz on her laptop and put on her glasses, she waited for Liz to come to her office. When Liz was first meeting with her, she made her confusion known at how she was called to meet with her a few times for the first two weeks while most students had meet with her only two or three times all together.

“I see some things that because of you being adopted that would like to work on. You are a very quite and lonely person to me Liz. And I want to help that. And look at our progress; you have a job, and great boyfriend!”

“Yeah, but, my parents think it’s weird and they are starting to think I’m like suicidal.”

“I’ll have a talk with them. Don’t worry Liz; we’ll get everything worked out.”

“What do I need to work out?”

“Leave that to me.”

Kathleen scrunched her face at the memory. She could have handled that so much better than she did. She was supposed to be professional. So that is why she was going to be looking for the reasons to believe.

“So Liz, tell me about what’s been going on in your life lately.”

Liz was sitting in Topolsky’s office; she called her in to meet with her again. “Well, I’ve just been going to school and hanging out with boyfriend and my other friends when I’m not at work.”

“And how’s that going for you?”

Liz sighed, “About as fun as work should be I guess. I mean, my boss is kind of odd…” Odd was an understatement. The man was crazy. I was convinced aliens abducted him and his memory was erased three times. Which made Liz wonder how he could remember if his memory was erased.

Topolsky smiled at her, “Why do you say odd? “

“Well, he thinks he was taken by aliens.”

Kathleen laughed along with Liz for moment before growing serious; “Do you believe in aliens?” Liz rubbed her forehead and thought of what to say. This was nothing like the previous questions she had asked Liz before. “I think it’s kind of hard to say that we are the only life in the universe. But, I don’t believe in the little green men you hear about.”

“Yes, I know what you mean; when I was growing up, I used to think aliens would come to steal my family at night. Now that I’m older I know that aliens don’t exist, or not in the way I used to believe they did.” Kathleen titled her head and smiled at Liz, “Now, aliens don’t exist like that do they?”

Liz shook her head, playing along with her. She wasn’t that kind of an alien, but the one who killed that man back ’59 could have been. “I’ve got to go now Liz, but we’ll continue this later.” Topolsky ended the conversation as their time was spent.

Watching her as Liz got up to; leave the room sent Kathleen back into her confusion. She didn’t like the feeling of being ripped in two. She wanted to do her job but she wanted to do it the right way. This was getting harder than Kathleen wanted it to get. She was doing her bet to think of Liz and an alien murderer, but she just couldn’t. It was too hard.

“Wait, Liz.” She called after her.

“What?”

Topolsky took off her glasses, “I think you should just…be careful who you trust.”

Liz raised an eyebrow at, “I thought you wanted me to be more trusting?”

“I do. But just…don’t let someone use you okay?”

Topolsky noticed how Liz was staring at her, “You can go now, Liz.”

Liz waved and left, “See ya.”

Leaning back into her chair Kathleen rubbed her hands over her face; this was not going to work.

Meet me in the Eraser Room. Lunch.

Max
.

Liz did her best to hold back the laugh that came from reading the note Max had passed her. It was the middle of class and Max and Liz were having more trouble paying attention to the teacher than to each other.

“Ms. Parker, is there something you would like to share with the rest of the class?”

She coughed at the teacher’s sudden remark. “No, sorry sir.”

“Shall I have you help our newest student to the class, Mr. Kyle Langley?”

Liz didn’t know what to say when she looked back at him; he was looking at her with this intense stare. She‘d seen this kid before. IT took her moment to remember…the other day with Isabel.

“Why don’t you do that Ms. Parker? Help out the new kid?”

Liz nodded at glanced at Max, she mouthed ‘sorry’ to him as she got up and went over to where Kyle was sitting.

Everything slowed down for Liz as she made her way through the different tables. She was keeping her eyes on him because she couldn’t take them off him. Something about him made body get sensations that she would only felt with Max. Only these felt primal, bordering on animalistic. She felt dangerous and bad just being near him.

“Hi, I’m Kyle,” he put out his hand and whispered as Liz sat down next to him. When he saw, she wasn’t talking to him tried again, “Hi! I’m Kyle Langley.”

Liz didn’t understand what was going on; this wasn’t something that had happened before. She broke herself out of her stupor, “I’m Liz, sorry, I didn’t mean to-”

Kyle smiled and stopped her. “It’s okay; I know what it’s like to be distracted in class by someone.”

“What are you talking about?” Liz responded, glaring at him for the remark. How dare he suggest that he, a guy whom she just met really and only saw the other day when he ran into Isabel…okay, he was the one distracting her but she didn’t want to admit it, distracted her.

“That guy over there?” Kyle pointed to Max, chuckling at her.

“Oh, that’s my boyfriend. Sorry, I thought you meant…” She took in a sharp breath, “Sorry.”

“It’s all right. You were with Isabel the other day right?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’m Liz Parker,” She said holding out her hand. Properly introducing herself to him

“Kyle Langley. Nice to meet you.”

River Dog was laying in one of her guest beds. She was doing well. A nice house, good job, wonderful husband. He was surprised at how much she had changed. Last, he heard she never wanted to be involved with the war again so he wasn’t expecting her to bring him in so willingly. But she did, saying to him that she had a duty to her people and that she would learn how to balance her life on Earth now and her loyalty to her home planet.

“Here you go,” she said as she came in the room with a bowl of soup. River Dog was still healing after what Kalsen had done to him. She couldn’t that much damage to someone.

“Call me if you need anything.” She told him.

“Just say a prayer for me?”

She smiled at him. “That’s what I do best.”

_______________________________________________________________

As the days passed Liz’s concern over Kyle had grown. Every time she saw him, she would have the same reaction as that day in class. It had gotten so bad that Liz would dread going to that class or even walking through the halls were she would most likely see him. Right now, she was sitting at a table at lunch as school waiting for Max.

“Hey, Liz.”

Without turning around, she knew who it was. It was Kyle. “Hi.” She said, letting her lack enthusiasm be known. She wanted Max to get there. Now. She wanted Max, she kept telling herself. She needed Max.

“Can I sit down?”

Sighing in frustration, Liz tried to say no. But the words came out wrong, very wrong. “Sure, have a seat.” She was surprised; that wasn’t what she meant. More like get the hell away from her.

Kyle smiled brightly at her as he took a seat across from her, “How have things been for you?”

She her throat getting sore, “I’m just fine. Just waiting for my boyfriend to get here.” Liz stressed the boyfriend part.

Kyle was about to respond when he saw Max coming up behind her, kissing her on the cheek.

“Sorry I’m late.” He wrapped his arm around her as he took his seat next to her. Liz and Max both looked at Kyle with stares that told him to go away but he ignored them.

Before Liz could shake her head, no Max showed up, smiling and kissing her on the cheek, “Hey, sorry I’m late.” He said sweetly to her. Liz had never felt so relieved in entire life, now that her Max was here Kyle would go away. There was just something about that boy she didn’t like. She couldn’t place the feeling or where it was coming from but she didn’t like him.

Sensing her discomfort around Kyle and seeing the way he was looking at her, Max decided it was time to claim his property, “Hi, I’m Max, Liz’s boyfriend. We all go the same class together.”

Kyle straightened up, “Yes, I remember seeing you. So, you guys are Lab partners. I have to hand it to you guys; I could never date a girl and go to the same class with her. Too much time together if you ask me.”

Max glared at Kyle for the remark. He wanted to slug him there on the spot. If looks could kill, both boys would have been dead on the spot.

“It’s one class out the whole school day; it’s not like you’re living together.”

Max felt Liz squeeze his hand when he made his rebuttal to Kyle’s comments. Smiling Max sunk down to where Liz was and put his arm around her, holding her close, “Besides, you must not have dated a girl like Liz before. If you did, you would have been disappointed all your classes weren’t with her.”

Kyle looked at Max, sizing him up; it didn’t seem like a smart idea to piss this guy right now. After a second of contemplating, Kyle took his leave. “Well, have a nice, I’ll see you guys later okay?”

Max kissed Liz on the forehead, “Yeah, we’ll see you around.” Liz waved at Kyle as he left, reaching up to kiss Max. “Have a nice lunch.”

“Man that guy was weird!” Max said rubbing Liz’s back. “Yeah I know...it’s like he’s a fly. You should have seen him in class today; he just kept looking at me.” Liz felt like she needed a chemical shower after spending time with Kyle. She buried her face in Max’s chest, “I wonder if that necklace works as a pest control device too?”

Not knowing where she was going with this Max laughed, “Why?”

Liz swallowed and looked up at Max, “Because, if it can help find a place thousands of light-years away it should be able to get rid of annoying class-mates.”

Pulling back Max took her face between his hands, “Wanna’ go to the eraser room and clean some erasers?”

“Really?”

Max nodded and leaned his forehead against hers, “Really.”

They left as fast as they could.

Maria sat across from Michael at his dinner table. She was keeping her eyes on him. This was intriguing her. “Okay, Michael, I have three questions for you.”

Michael adjusted his tie and ran his hands through his spiked hair, “Go ahead.”

“First off, why did you want to have dinner at your house and second, why are you all dressed up and Third, I thought you never wanted me to ever spend time with your father?”

Nervously glancing around his dining room, Michael searched far any sign of his father. When he didn’t see or hear him, he grunted in frustration. “The answers to your question?” He looked at Maria, who was dressed up in a cute skirt and a long sleeved dark blue shit.

“One, I felt like having an evening with you because I enjoy being around you and plus, we won‘t feel the urge to just make out. Second, I like you and wanted to look nice for you. And third, you’ve seen my dad, but you haven’t gotten to know him. Not that there is much there to like, but still, you’re my girlfriend and I want to do this the right way this time.” He said slouching in his chair, “because you’re the first girl that I’ve felt this way about and I think you and I could have something here. And I want my dad to know that his son has girl that means something to him. No matter big of screw up I am.”

Maria’s mouth hung open. That was very unexpected. No one had ever said anything remotely close to that to her. She felt tears come to her eyes as she looked down at her knees then back up to Michael who looked like a little boy trying to act grown up with his tie. “I’m so- I didn’t know-” she cleared her throat, “Thank you Michael.”

Michael gave a half smile at her as his dad finally made his way into the dining room were their dinner was laid out nicely on the table in front of them. Michael reached under the table at took Maria’s hand, “I just wanted to be the kind guy of that deserves you.”

Had his father not been around, Maria would have grabbed and kissed Michael until he knew that it she didn’t deserve him. Instead, she smiled back him, “Don’t worry, you do.” She winked at him.

His father let a moist burp, ending the moment. “Let’s say Grace.” He grunted.

Michael raised an eyebrow, “Dad, you never pray.”

Hank gave a drunken toothy grin and patted his son on the shoulder, “Son, tonight is special night. And I think this is food something that I’ll remember praying about.” He held up his beer can, “Here’s to my son. Whom I couldn’t be more proud of and his hot young, sweet and sadly underage girlfriend. Now, who wants to say Grace?”

Before anyone could volunteer, Hank pointed to Michael, “Son, I think tonight, you should say it.”

Maria smiled at him and gave him thumbs up, “I agree.” She felt her heart swell for him as he chuckled nervously.

Michael didn’t know how to respond. His father was being…nice. To him. And Maria. He took Maria’s hand and his dads, “Uh, Dear Lord, We thank thee for this food…”

That Saturday, everyone agreed to meet at the café. They wanted to regroup and discuss things. Since the pendent had been put back together it spent its time in between Liz’s desk and under Alex’ mattress. One of the items on the list of things to talk about was Kyle Langley. Liz had made it well known that she did not like him and hated being near him in school. Plus, he had been coming to the UFO Center a lot lately and that scared her.

The flashes between Max and Liz still occurred, but Liz learned how to block the flashes about Kyle. She didn’t want Max to see those. Not because she wanted to have them, in fact, she felt she was being forced to have them.

Max was working the bar when Liz heard the bell ding. She hoped it was Maria, she said that she would meet them there after she helped her mom with some things. To both her disappoint and horror it was Kyle Langley.

“Oh great,” Liz muttered under her breath, catching the attention of Alex who was sitting across from her while they waited for Maria and Isabel to arrive.

Liz watched Kyle, feeling the sudden overwhelming urge to throw up.

“What can I get for you today?” she heard Max ask him.

Kyle and Max both were glancing at her every once in while as he ordered. She couldn’t make out what Kyle was saying but she still watched his every move. The sudden image of her and Kyle kissing popped into her mind, causing her sickened feeling to escalate. She shook her head profusely, trying to shake the offending scene from her mind. It was then that Alex took notice to his sister’s state. She didn’t look half as healthy as she had this morning. She looked pale, and solemn. That scared Alex; she never looked like that when Max was within ten feet of her.

“Liz, are you okay, you look like something’s been bothering you today?” Alex asked her, he could see the confusion mirrored in her face. There was something wrong with her; she seemed distant. Almost like, she was really somewhere else in her mind but was here in body.

“Liz, has something been bothering you today?”

“I’m fine, just a little tired.”

Alex wasn’t buying it. He could tell she was lying to him, “Liz, you are not okay, tell me what’s wrong.” Before Liz had chance to answer him, he caught sight of the problem. Kyle.

Liz’s eyes darted around the café, looking for Max. When she saw that he was nowhere near, she leaned close to Alex, her voice low. “Alex, I’ve been having flashes.”

“What kind of flashes?”

She rubbed her face in her hands, “I don’t know Alex, it’s like, I see Kyle and me together. But it’s my will, like someone was making me see it.” Liz felt so helpless; the flashes just came on with no warning. And she knew they couldn’t have been from her own mind, she never would have fantasized about anyone but Max, especially after they had gotten together.

Alex ran the situation over in his mind for a moment, knowing where Liz was going with her suspicion of Kyle. “So you think he’s an alien?” he followed her expressions closely, to his surprise Liz didn’t give a definite answer.

“I don’t know, maybe. But, I don’t want to say he is and than find out he isn’t. He keeps showing places I‘m at…”

“So what do you think we should do?”

Liz and Alex had been in so deep with their conversation that they didn’t notice Maria had arrived. She sat down next to Alex and wanted in on this juicy conversation.

“What did I miss?” she asked quietly, so no one outside the table could hear her.

“Liz is suspicious of the new kid.” Alex said with a newfound awareness of Kyle as he walked out of the café.

Maria smoothed a napkin over her lap as she stole half of Liz’s cheeseburger, “What else is new? New kid comes to town; we watch their every move. Remember the Tine girl or that Ray punk?”

“None of us have had flashes of them. I’ve had them when Kyle is near me.”

Maria‘s eyes grew wide, “Do you think that he’s Nasedo?”

“I think that would jumping to conclusions don’t you?”

“Liz, if you’re getting flashes from just being near him than I think that something’s different about him.” Alex responded.

“All I’m saying is that I don’t want to accuse him being someone he isn’t.” Liz put her hands up.

Maria thought about for a moment, and then it came to her. “Okay, let’s just say that Kyle is an alien. It would make sense that he came here because of us putting the necklace back together wouldn’t it?”

Cocking her head to the side Liz agreed with Maria, “Like, it signaled them?”

Maria continued on her brainstorm, “What if, because Eddie basically, it like sent out this signal to others and Kyle is just the first to respond?”

Alex broke in, “Okay, so you’re saying that it acts as some sort of communicator?”

She cleared her throat and went on with her explanation of the necklace, “When we put it back together Liz got sick. Now, I know Liz said she hadn’t been feeling well that day but she didn’t start throwing up until after we put the pendent back together.”

Catching on, Alex pointed over to where Kyle had been before he left, “And the signal from the pendent alerted Kyle to come to Roswell!”

“Guys, Wait!” Liz put her hands up stopping the rest of the conversation, “We don’t even know if Kyle is an alien do we? I mean, yes he is creepy and that whole thing in lab thing freaked me out and-”

Maria cut Liz off becoming confused at lab reference, “Wait, what happened in lab?”

Alex sat his drink down; “Liz had sexual fantasy about Kyle.”

Maria’s eyes almost popped out of her head; she looked Liz up and down, “Liz, I didn’t know you had it in you. I mean the sexual fantasy thing, yeah, as for it being about Kyle, if it wasn’t about Max, he is an alien. There is no way, on this planet or any other you would have a fantasy about anyone but Max.”

Liz gave a half laugh, “Thanks Maria. The funny thing is…it’s true.” Liz glanced between Mara and Alex, “It’s true, I’m whipped.”

“Where’s Isabel?” Alex glanced at his watch; she should have been here fifteen minutes ago. “Have you talked to her Maria?” she shrugged her shoulders, “I haven’t seen her since this morning when we went to breakfast.”

Just than Isabel came rushing in, out breath, “I am so sorry, I ran into-”

Everyone at the table cut her off,” Kyle?”

Isabel stared at them, “And how did you know that?”

“What did he say to you?” Alex asked her.

“All this stuff about Liz…”

“Yeah, he’s an alien!” Maria exclaimed, it was settled.

Isabel’s eyes grew wide with terror, “What? He’s an alien?” she whispered.

Liz shook her head; “He’s under supposition of being green around the gills. We’re not sure what is going on with him but let me tell you, it’s not normal.”

Max and Michael came over and sat with them, Max next to Liz and Maria next to Michael.

Michael and Maria hadn’t had much of a chance to talk since dinner two nights ago and she was more than happy to see him, taking his hand in hers.

“What going on?” Michael started the conversation.

Without a moment’s hesitation Maria started right in on Kyle, “Well, we think Kyle Langley is an alien.”

“It’s nice to talk to someone who doesn’t act they’re afraid to be around me!”

Kyle said as he and Tess walked down the sidewalk together. She had been coming out of a store after buying her uncle a birthday present when she literally ran into Kyle.

“What did you mean by that?” Tess asked she felt a connection to him; he was nice, cute and didn’t pay any attention to anyone else but her at this moment. However, he was still a guy, and she was always careful about guys.

“Well, this girl I kind of like, Liz Parker-”

Tess put up her hands, “Before you go any further, don’t have anything to do with her. She’s dangerous and nothing but trouble.”

His interest turned from Tess to Liz, “What do you mean?” Tess cleared her throat, as if preparing for a long story. “Let me put it this way, you know her boyfriend, Max Evans? Well, we dated, then, a few months ago, there was this shooting at the Crashdown Café and ever since then all this crap started happening with their little group. His mom has even met up with my dad a few times to tell him this crazy crap she keeps hearing Liz and Max talk about when they think their alone.”

Tess’ voice got lower, “This is the thing, my uncle told - and he’s the sheriff- that they found no bullet hole and she was there that day.”

Kyle made the best fake laugh he could, “Are you saying Liz did something to him?”

Tess shrugged, “I don’t know, my uncle said that she did something to him. And all I know is that ever since then things have been really weird,”

“Do you think they are serious?”

Tess looked at Kyle, great; there goes another one to Liz. “I don’t know, they seem to be but you never know.”

Kyle looked at his watch. “I’m sorry Tess but I have to go, my dad’s going to be here any minute and…” he trailed off. Tess got the point, “Yeah, but we should hang out sometime, it would be fun.”

Kyle nodded, “Yeah, it’ll be fun.”

Okay, first things first!

Thank you all so much for all the feedback that you have been giving me. As you know, it really helps!

All also...just so you all know, since it would be painfully clear to everyone after reading this part...Kyle is evil. Yes, Tess was evil on the show but what about this deal her and Nasedo had with Kivar?

How did it come about and how long had Tess known about it? These are just things that bugged the crap out of when watching the show. Plus, they spent all this time building her up and then they drop the bomb she is evil with no real motive to be. So whenever I wrote this I wanted to show Nasedo and Kyle working out what they were going to do. Because, the writers didn't do a very good job with it on the show. Not that I’m doing a very good job with this fic…

And one very important note: The name Sedna is the name of a real planet they discovered outside of Pluto. I always hated the name Antar for a planet. I do not own the name Sedna or Antar. I am just borrowing them for the time being.

Oh, the rating on this should bumped up a bit. And also, there is some K\L action in this. So maybe a very light adult?

“Ed?”

Stepping into his house, Kyle called out to his ‘dad’, for now he was going by Ed Langley. It was two in the morning; Kyle had driving around town, thinking about the situation he was in. Ed and Kyle had a home in the suburbs of Roswell, not too far from Isabel’s house. He took off his coat and hung it up, noting that Ed did not answer. He was probably gone like usual. He was most likely watching them or something.

“Kyle, come here.”

His ears perked when he heard Ed call him from his bedroom. Kyle climbed up the stairs and turned left, making his way to Ed’s room. There was a light glow coming from it. Kyle knew what he was doing. He was trying to contact home.

“You know won’t be able to do that without the other one.”

Ed’s concentration broke and the glowing stopped, “I sorry little one but have you ever heard of the Earth term “Practice Makes Perfect”?” he said with a slight bitterness in his voice. He didn’t care at all for humans or their emotions but being on this planet for fifty years he learned how to pick up traits. Too bad caring about others wasn’t one of them.

“Did you have a nice day?” Ed asked trying to act interested

Scoffing, Kyle rolled his eyes at him. The entire drive home yesterday Kyle had told everything he could about his meeting with Liz, how he did the things Ed told him to and how Liz reacted to it. Had Ed not been the closest thing Kyle had to a father he would hate him. First, he separated him from the others when they hatched. Then he took him all over the US, never giving him a real home to grow up in. Kyle didn’t understand it either. Nasedo could have raised him to complete his entrusted duties for his people and still kept in contact with the other three. It would have made it easier for Liz, Alex and Maria to trust him and he wouldn’t have to worry about Max. Now, this was going to make things more complicated.

“I’ve already told you what happened! She doesn’t even like me!”

Ed straightened up. He walked over and placed his hands on each one of Kyle shoulders, “Kyle, all it takes is the trust of one. If one trusts and believes you than the others will follow. I know that from experience with them.” Ed felt a smile come across his face at the memory. “Do you remember when I told you about River Dog?”

Kyle nodded, “Unlike you, I pay attention.” He said with a bitter tone in his voice. Ed just ignored him and continued on his story, “I found him after Larek did. He trusted him and told him basically all of our secrets. Well, lucky for me I can look like Larek with a wave of my hand. Do you remember what I told you after that?”

Rubbing his forehead Kyle looked up at him and answered, “You then ran off Larek, changed your name from Kalsen to Nasedo and got River Dog to keep tabs on the ‘pod squad’.” Kyle than felt all his bitterness come to a head, “Do you not think I ever listen to you? I have spent all my life on this planet hearing only about what I was supposed to do and you never once,” Kyle held up his index finger, “once, Gave me the time of day to see if maybe I had a better plan than ‘run and find them later’!”

Ed became angry and grabbed Kyle by the arm, “You little toad, if you weren’t a royal prince you would have never even meet Ava! On Sedna or on Earth! In case you forgot, your marriage to her was nothing more than a deal for peace. Not only that, she loved you so dearly she had an affair with a servant, who just so happened to be a gift from our people!”

Laughing, Ed grabbed Kyle by the neck and held him up against the wall, ignoring his pleas to be put down. “And what if Liz remembered her life on Sedna? Do you think she would have trusted you then?” he sat him down, not caring how Kyle was rubbing his throat.

“The Antarians learned how to clone, we took the technology. Thanks to me, we got a hold of the ship before it left and placed you with others.” Ed reached and grabbed Kyle again, this time just holding by the upper arm.

Kyle tried to get out of Ed’s grip but he was too strong, “I was placed on that ship along with you to make sure everything the Antarians had planed didn’t work. And if the ship hadn’t crashed like it did maybe, you all would have hatched before forty years passed. Then we could all be home right now enjoying ‘peace’ with the Antarians.”

Kyle could feel the blood pressure in his arm building up as Ed‘s grip increased. He spat at Ed, “You don’t understand what it’s like to be in my position. All you have to do is make sure I go through with everything. I have to do it!”

Ed pulled up to him and said through gritted teeth, “I don’t understand?” His eyes grew dark with anger, “I’ve had to live on this planet for fifty years waiting for this day to come, and even now, I have to wait for the harvest to return home. And that’s if things go our way!” Ed shook his head at the boy. He released his grip. Kyle was being ridiculous, like usual. Ed didn’t say anything else as Kyle started to walk away and go into his own room. But Ed stopped him, “Oh, just so you know Kyle, the pendent has been put back together. It was a while ago.”

Kyle stiffened at Ed’s words. Kyle still didn’t fully understand it but from what Ed had told him whenever it was put back together it would alert small army’s on both sides. It would also awaken the seal on Liz’s brain. That is why Liz had been feeling so sick lately.

Kyle threw himself down on his bed and opened up the journal that Ava had written; her last passage was what touched him.

“I’ve tried to be a good leader to my people. I have fought many battles and killed many men. Still, I have no right to govern these people. I am simply a warrior to them. When I am with Zan, I feel different. I feel all of the emotions that have since died away in my life come back to me. Maybe that is why I love him. Not because he gives me hope that I can rule over my people well, he gives me hope in life again.”

Kyle closed the book; he had learned how to read Antarian from Ed long ago. Although he had little sympathy for her, he still could see where Ava was coming from at times. Everyone expected so much from her and no matter how hard she tried, she could not deliver. He looked at his clock, he had a half an hour until he would go and do research on Liz, Alex and Maria again. Kyle looked the clock, 2:30 AM. Liz would be asleep now. He reached over and grabbed his box of photos, closing his eyes. He learned how Alex was able to dream walk. He felt himself drift off and enter Liz’s mind.

____________________________________________________________

“Liz, you know you want to be with me.” Kyle whispered in her ear as he slowly circled around her. He was in her room, and in her mind. Kyle made it so she had just gotten out of shower and was in a pair of loose fitting sweats. His husky voice sent guilty chills down her spine. Try as she might; something in her wanted him. It wasn’t like what pulled her towards Max, this felt bad and wrong.

She clinched her already tight jaw and swallowed; shaking her head and tightening her fists. “I want Max.” And she did. More than anything, more than she ‘wanted’ Kyle.

Kyle laughed deeply. He folded his thick muscular arms, “I know you love him.” His lip curved into a sexy smile, “But who said you couldn’t desire me?” He pressed himself against her and she gasped.

“Stop it.”

“Stop what?” Kyle walked around her again, touching her shoulder that was wet from the shower. “Stop trying to give you what you want?” His breath went down the back of her neck, “Okay, forget Max for second, if you can,” he rolled his eyes. “Tell me, if there was no Max, and I was in your room like I am now, would you?”

Liz squeezed her eyes shut tighter, she knew she couldn’t forget Max at anytime, but to shut him up she humored him. “Would I what?” she asked knowing he meant.

Kyle slid his hands through her wet hair, “You know…” He inhaled the sent of her shampoo. It was fruity with a hint of coconut that overtook the other elements in it.

Liz turned around suddenly; her spunkiness came through finally, “Go to sleep?"

The look on Kyle’s face showed that he wasn’t expecting that remark. She got him on that one she told herself. Her courage and resolve to resist him grew.

But that was given a fatal blow when he recovered from the remark, “You know Liz, you not answering me just proves me right.” He saw she was waiting to respond. “I know you want me.”

Liz let out breath of frustration, “No. Besides, we’re way too young.”

Kyle laughed again stepping close to her, his face almost touching hers. “That doesn’t mean anything.”

“Like you’ve had sex before,” Liz quipped. “Have you?”

“Would it make a difference? Are you afraid you wouldn’t measure up?” He decided to get her were it counts. “Oh, so that’s why you’re with Max. He about as virginal as you can get.”

Liz glared at him, “Sex has nothing to do with it.”

“Yet.”

“Kyle, this is none of your businesses.”

He held up his hands, “Oh, but it is.” His eyes grew dark, “You’re mine and you know it. Tell you the truth, yes; I have slept with a few girls. The fact is that you’re in love with Max but you need me in a way you’re afraid to need Max.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Liz hugged herself. Kyle was going to get himself killed before the night was over. She felt with hot anger in her veins. At first, it was annoying, now it was scary.

Growing mad, Kyle stepped up to her, grabbing a hold of her he pushed against the wall, “What you feel for me is instinctive. I can read your mind.” He glared at her, liking the way she shrunk under his grip. “You have everything planned out in your mind right now. Marry Max, have kids, live happy for the rest of your lives. What you feel for Max is soft and sweet.”

He drew her closer to him, “But I’m making you feel passion. When you look at me right you hate me so much you could kill me…or…“ He brushed his lips against her neck. “Ha, your little Max couldn’t even think of what I could do to you. Your hate feeds your passion for me, you need me...bad.”

With that, he leaned down to kiss her again, but Liz pushed him off a blast of her hand.

“Get the hell off of me!”

Kyle pulled himself up and reached for her again, taking control. He licked his lips and pressed her against the wall, making Liz moan loudly. He laughed at her, “So you like it rough, huh?”

“Please…” Liz whimpered as she felt her body react to him.

Kyle pulled her to him, “Just say the word, Liz.”

Liz felt tears come to her eyes, “No! I want Max.” She felt the bottom pf her stomach drop when she felt him against her. “Please, stop…” she unwilling wrapped he legs around him, unable to control her own body.

Finally, without warning, Kyle pressed her mouth against his, as they kissed passionately he reached for the hem of he shirt…

Liz shot up in bed, sweat literally dripping off her. She felt the sheets, they were soaking wet too. The sick feeling in her stomach overwhelmed her and she jumped from her bed, trying to make it to the bathroom. A flash of her nightmare came to her mind and she couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“Oh, no.” She whimpered softly as she realized she had just thrown up on her bedroom floor. She furrowed her brow as the after taste came to her mouth. She waved her hand over the mess, cleaning it in one swoop. She stood up on shaky legs and went to her mirror. She looked pale and near death. That was the most horrific thing in her life. She stared at herself as she began to sob, unable to understand what made get to this place in her life. Just a month ago, she was happy with Max and now, she was having wet dreams about a person she hated with all her might. She knelt down at the foot of her dresser where her mirror was located; her body shook with painful sobs.

“Uncle Jim?”

“Tess, come here.” Tess walked in his office; the smell reminded her of old leather, like someone had left an old leather jacket in the room and the smell just stuck there. As he motioned her close to him she asked, “What is it?”

Jim rubbed his face and spoke, “I want you to know that even though I’ve been preoccupied with work and other things but I want you to know that I think of you as my own daughter and love you.”

Tess was baffled at the unexpected fatherly affection that Jim had just given her. Sure, in the past he had said that he loved her like a daughter but not like this. This time it was like he was telling his own child that he was sorry for neglecting them. “Uncle Jim,” Tess started, “Why is Liz Parker so important to you?”

Jim opened his mouth to speak but Tess stopped him before he had the chance, “I don’t mean the stuff that you already told me about her, what I’m saying is, well…” She tried to form her words so they would make sense. “What is so bad about her that you would tell me to stay away? Everyone that hears about Liz going up to Max at the diner just laugh at me.”

Adjusting himself in his seat, Jim thought of the best possible way to explain this to Tess without getting her too involved. Sighing, he finally spoke up, “Liz is trouble, and what ever she did to Evans she had done before and caused no good. She caused only bad.”

“Why do you bring this up Tess?”

“I meet a boy that seemed interested in her and I told him to stay away. You know, like you told me to.” She shrugged as she moved over to door. Yawning she waved good night to him and went to bed.

Love Bug?”

Maria was lying on the grass with Isabel and Liz, staring up at the sky. All where laughing as Isabel continued her story about Alex calling her ‘Love Bug’, “He calls me Love Bug now. He knows I laugh at it and that’s why he does it.”

“Hmm,” Maria chewed on it for a second, “little too cutesy for me. Give me a guy who has fire…a real…” Before Maria could continue, Liz leaned up and looked at her.

“Vibrator?”

Unable to contain her laughter Isabel broke out into a fit of giggles at the reference. “What?”

Maria gave a disappointed sigh at Liz’s naughty streak, “Parker, you are bad.” Turning to Isabel, she decided to explain the origin of the term; “Okay, my mom is well…wacky. Any guy that stimulates the mind she calls a vibrator. Michael, while hard to figure out at times, is a vibrator.”

Isabel turned to Liz with a mischievous catch in her voice, “So, Liz, would you say that…Max is a vibrator?”

“No comment…” Liz felt Maria glaring at her. “Max and I are…”

“Sweet.” Isabel said. Maria scoffed, “Understatement. I need an insulin shot after spending time with you two.”

“No, Max and I are happy. I mean, I have had this major crush on him since I first saw him and after I healed him, we just grew very close. Now that we’re together… we’re happy.”

“More like delirious. Other than when strange new guys pop up.” Maria said causing a hurt reaction out of Liz.

“It’s not like that Maria. It was like someone was making me see those things.”

Instantly feeling guilty she apologized, “I know. Sorry. By the way, have you had any new visions of him?”

Shaking her head no Liz sat up and took a drink of her soda, she didn‘t feel comfortable telling anyone about her dream. “I haven’t seen him but maybe once or twice in the last week. Alex and Michael seem to really want to watch his every move though.”

“But the current theory is he’s that Nasedo dude right?” Isabel asked the two aliens. “I’ve tried getting a hold of Eddie to see if he could help us but I keep getting nothing. No one knows where he went.” Maria announced.

Liz didn’t what to think of Eddie. He was a completely different person now, unlikable and uncaring. “He did tell us he was leaving...” She sat up, “Besides, he said he didn’t want us to try and contact him anymore remember?”

Philip walked through the café, doing one last check to see if everything was off. He jumped when he saw Liz standing at the doorway, knocking. “Liz, I didn’t know you where coming. Max didn’t tell me.”

“He doesn’t know I am here Mr. Evans. I just needed to talk to him.”

Phillip opened the door; he knew his wife would kill him. But he let her in anyway. “Sure, let me go and get him. I’ll be back in minute.”

He left Liz alone in the café to wait for Max. She went over to the bar and took a seat at one of the stools. She wanted to tell Max about the visions she had been having about Kyle. If they could see into each other’s souls it would only be, a matter of time until he saw one of the flashes and think it was coming from Liz.

“Liz?”

Liz turned to the door, where Mrs. Evans stood. “What are you doing here?” She asked with all of the disgust she could muster.

“I’m waiting to talk to Max. Is that okay?”

Before Diane could answer, Max came through the door.

“Max, we need to talk.”

He turned to his mom, “Could we be alone please?”

Thanks so much for the feeback. It really helps!

“What do you want to talk about Liz?” Max asked her after he made sure his mother was gone. She had been so disapproving of him lately when it came to Liz.

Liz hesitated for a moment, did she really want to tell him? Part of her knew Max would understand but the other part, the bigger part, feared he would breakup with her on the spot. She knew she need to choose her words carefully, the last thing Liz needed was Max getting the impression she was having second thoughts about them. She was not; she just needed to tell him about Kyle.

“You know that guy Kyle?”

Max nodded, “The one that’s under ‘current supposition of being alien’, right?”

Liz took a deep breath and nodded, “Well, I’ve seen things when I’m around him.”

Searching her eyes, Max asked cautiously, “What kind of things?”

Knowing there was no turning back now Liz let it all out. “I’ve seen him and I doing…stuff…” she trailed off, hoping he would get the hint without her having to delve much deeper.

Before Max could say anything else, Liz took the opportunity to explain. “It’s not from me though…it’s like he’s making me see it. I don’t want to Max; ask anyone, they’ll tell you I don’t want anyone but you.” She walked up to Max and looked him in eyes; “It’s like he’s controlling me. I don’t like it.”

Max could see she wasn’t lying to him. He understood how hard this was to talk to him about and the look in her eyes made him grab her and pull into a hug.

An audible sigh of relief was heard coming form Liz. “I didn’t want you to be mad at me.”

Max smoothed her hair down, “I’m not mad at you. But don’t let me see Kyle any time soon.” He leaned down and gave her a small kiss, letting her know things would be all right.

After standing in his arm Liz became aware of what time it was. “I need to go,” she with a hint of sadness in her voice.

Realizing how tired he was Max yawned. Chuckling, he said, “I guess you should. We need to get some sleep.”

Giving her another kiss, he led to the door, “Good night Liz.” He told her, watching as she walked out the entrance to the diner.

“Kyle, I must say, I am very much disappointed with the way you’ve been handling this situation.” Ed said as he read a local newspaper. He didn’t understand how humans could just cause each other so much woe that they had to broadcast it through a paper route.

Kyle rolled his eyes, “You know, my heads not the only one on the line if this doesn’t work. And besides, I’ve been dream walking her and everything.”

“Oh, yes, dream sex is such a hard job to do isn’t it, Kyle?”

Clenching his jaw, Kyle glared at him, “I can at least say that I’ve been making progress.”

Suddenly, without warning, Ed slammed Kyle’s head down on the table, “AND WHAT THE HELL DO YOU CALL WHAT I’VE BEEN DOING?!?” he screamed loudly in Kyle’s ear.

“Yeah, you and the FBI have been working real hard just watching them haven’t you?” Kyle laughed against the hard table’s surface. While he was laughing, a thought came to his mind. :”You said that Liz was the only one being investigated right?”

“From the way it looks, yes, Liz is the only one who is being watched.”

“You said I just needed one to trust me right?”

Ed nodded. “Well, if the FBI were to capture Liz wouldn’t it make sense that we help them? After all, we are on their side…”

Ed took time to work it out in his head, “So if Liz were to be taken by the FBI your saying that we could help Liz escape?” Kyle wiggled his eyebrows; “They would have no choice but to trust us. We have to deal with revealing ourselves to them but if we could the special unit to act a little quicker then….”

Ed tilted his head back slightly; “They would have to trust us to save them.”

“You know your way around the building. Larek, Cal and Serena left you there.”

Ed laughed, “I’m proud, you did something yourself for once.”

Kathleen paced the floor of her hotel room. Smith was on her way down along with Pierce. They wanted to take action against Liz now. “She doesn’t match anything we’ve gathered on the killer!” She said to herself. “But she’s our only choice.” She continued to talk herself into believing Liz was the killer. She had to believe it.

Pierce was not happy with the way the investigation had been progressing. It was coming along too slow and everything was a mess. Burns didn’t help much other than scare people away and Summers was growing fat from all the sitting he was doing.

Topolsky screamed when her cell phone rang, “Hello?” she answered.

“Do you have what I want?” Pierce asked on the other end.

“The transcripts and pictures?”

“Yes. What are you going to do?”

“We’re taking her to the White Room.”

________________________________________________________________

“Okay you guys, once again, here we are watching the pendent and it’s doing nothing.”

They were all sitting in Liz’s room, gathered around in a circle. They were studying it again. It had become a tradition with them; try to break the pendants secrets. Alex was bored with the situation.

“Liz, Maria, this is driving me crazy, we’ve tried breaking it and nothing happens. We’ve tried using our powers on it and nothing happens.”

He sighed and gave longing look to Isabel, telling her without words that he wanted to get out of there. “The two exciting things it’s done is give Maria a vision and it made Liz puke a few weeks back.” He yawned again, “Why are we trying to break it again?”

“Because, if we can break it again that means we have some power over it.” Liz said. She wasn’t sure what she meant but ever since that time it made her sick, she wanted the necklace apart again and as soon as possible.

“Oh, it brought Kyle to town.”

“What?”

Everyone looked at Maria, surprised by the comment. “Hey, I know, I know, I’m sorry.” She shrugged.

Isabel remembered how she had begun to see Kyle around with Tess. “Speaking of Kyle, I saw him with Tess the other day at school. They kept giving me weird looks and wouldn’t even let someone come and sit next to them.”

“Do you think they’re on to us?”

Isabel looked over to Liz who asked the question. “Let’s say Kyle is for sure an alien. And one of the bad ones at that. Do you think he knows who we are or is he just suspicious of us?”

Maria tossed the thought back and forth, weighing out each option. Then a thought popped into her head from out of nowhere, “What if he’s not bad?” Alex and Liz shared the same shocked expression, “What?” they asked at the same time.

Trying to make Liz and Alex understand Maria went over the situation in her mind and then spoke it out load. “What if he’s not a killer? I mean there must have been more sent to this planet than just us. Or what if he is Nasedo and he killed that guy out of self defense?”

“Or Not” Liz said softly. This wasn’t something she wanted to talk about. In her mind, Kyle was bad and there was nothing that could make her trust him…nothing.

“Liz, why don’t you tell me about your family?”

Agent Pierce was listing to the tapes that Kathleen had of Liz. He was on to the second one; the first did nothing but make Liz sound to nothing more than a soft-spoken teen that wouldn’t hurt a fly. He knew different.

“What do you want to know?”

“Are both you and your brother adopted?”

“Yeah, we were found on the roadside about ten years ago…We don’t know what we were doing there.”

“Do you remember your life before?”

“No…if you don’t mind me asking…. What’s this got to do with anything?”

“Liz, if you can put together your past, you can focus on your future.”

Pierce stopped the tape. He had to admit Liz was good at sounding sweet and innocent. He bit his bottom lip and shook his head back and forth. Something wasn’t adding up with Liz and Alex. So far, he had no reason to believe Alex was an alien but if he and Liz were found out to be than…well, he may have found the lost aliens.

__________________________________________________________

Kathleen was packing her bags. Much to her surprise when Pierce came, he fired her from the case. She was on her way back to the Military Base where Liz would be held. There, Pierce told her, she would finish her work on the investigation. She had run the situation through her head many times and each time nothing seemed possible. Everything about her screamed that she was different from the other alien they were looking for.

“So they sent you packing to the Military base?”

Topolsky jumped at the sound of Summers voice in her hotel room doorway. “Summers, how did you get in here?!” She asked with fear and annoyance both coming through. He just laughed at her, “Well, for one thing the door was left standing open. I guess you just got fired huh?”

Glaring at him, she spoke in a threatening way, “Thanks to you and that big fat Burns idiot, I had all my taped conversation with Liz taken. All of my reports, paper work, even my lap top!” She was not able to describe the anger she felt towards him at this point. He appalled her.

“I think Burns just wanted to look good.”

“Do you know Pierce wants to take her?” She asked.

“From I heard in about two to three days. Four tops. To get the room ready for her and everything.”

Kathleen looked at him. He tried to explain his thoughts on it, “Even if Liz isn’t ‘the one’ that Pierce is searching for exactly she can still be the second alien. They both killed people Kathleen.”

She looked at her car that was parked in front of her room. The rain began to hit the ground softly. “I guess you’re right.”

____________________________________________________________

“Good night, Max,” Liz called out as she snuck in one last kiss before leaving the Crashdown. She had parked across the street so his mom wouldn’t say anything about her being there so late. It was beginning to rain heavily. The stormy weather had given her some comfort. She hadn’t seen much of Kyle lately and she was not complaining.

She walked to the ally where the jeep was when a strong feeling of nausea hit he and she knew why.

“Liz, is that you?”

Liz turned around to find Kyle standing in the rain; “Yeah?” she wanted to run.

Smiling at her, Kyle walked over to her. He stood next to her, slightly towering over her. “I left my wallet in the UFO Center and I was wondering…”

Liz shook her head, “No. I can’t let you in. Just tell me where it is and I’ll give to tomorrow at school.”

“I kind of need it now, Liz.” He laughed, “It has my money and my driver’s licenses.”

“Well, I hear you and the Sheriffs niece are pretty good friends so you shouldn’t have trouble.”

He acted as if he didn’t know what she was talking about and moved closer to her. “What’s wrong Liz?” He touched her arm she immediately recoiled from him as a flash hit her “Just leave me alone Kyle!”

She ran to the jeep with Kyle trailing behind her, “Wait! Liz!”

She got the driver’s side when he got in front of her, “Liz, what is going on with you?” He asked her, pretending to be concerned.

Liz shook her head violently, “Just leave me alone Kyle, you scare me.”

“Why do I scare you?” He asked shocked, “What have I done to you?”

“Just get away form me, Kyle”

Kyle nodded and turned to leave when he stopped and turned to face her, “I don’t think I scare you Liz. It’s what you feel when you’re around me.”

If someone could have been listening had enough they would have heard something snap in Liz. She went from scared to intrigue in a second flat, but it wasn’t a good intrigued...it was a dark one. Like she was watching someone being hit by a train and just couldn’t take her eyes off the wreck.

“What did you just say?”

Kyle licked his lips and folded his arms across his chest just he did in the dream, “I said you feel something around me.”

He stepped closer to her, and pulled her close. While every fiber in being felt sickened by him, something deep in her mind felt drawn to him. It felt like she was having flashes again. “It’s because of the pendant, Liz. That’s why you been feeling sick.”

Liz pushed him away, “How do you know about that?”

“Because I know you, Liz.”

“Shut up, I know you’re a killer!”

Kyle laughed at her as the rain began to pound on the ground, “What are you talking about Liz?!”

“The ‘50’s. You killed at least one person in the fifties.”

Kyle shook his head no, “That’s why I came here Liz. When you put the pendent back together, it awakened the killer and he's here in town. We’re meant to be together, you can ask our protector. I came with him.”

Liz looked at him, perplexed. “What protector?” she asked. She didn’t know any protector. “River dog told Eddie we had enemies. As far as I’m concerned, you’re one of them.”

Kyle went up to her again this time he wasn’t taking no for an answer, the sooner her could get her to be with him; the sooner he could go home. He grabbed her and kissed her hard on the lips.

Liz pulled away and slapped him, only to give in as he kissed her again. The rain making their bodies’ slick against each other, Kyle’s hand made their way to Liz’s neck tilting her head back as they fell against a nearby brick wall.

Liz tried everything she could to stop herself but it was impossible. This wasn’t her. She was almost having an out of body experience until the flashes started. She saw herself, with Kyle. In bed, holding each other. She saw blood and then stars. Her head began to pound, as the kiss grew deeper.

The wall behind her was hard, but it was holding her up as they continued to kiss. Kyle’s arms began to make their way under her shirt when Max suddenly popped into Liz’s mind. She snapped out of it and shoved him away. “Get away from me or I’ll kill you right here and now!” She screamed as tears came from her eyes.

He opened his mouth to speak but Liz stopped him. “I said get away!”

He simply grinned at her before turning and leaving. “I have all the answers you have been looking for Liz. All of them.” He said as he walked away.

Liz put her hands on the top of her head, sobbing as she fell to the ground. This was going to kill Max and hers relationship. There was no getting around the damage this would cause. Everything Kyle said to her about aliens was forgotten as she sobbed on the cold wet concrete.

___________________________________________________________

“Max wake up,” Liz called from his window, he could still hear somewhat from the inside. He rolled out of bed and walked over to the window. “Liz, what’s wrong?”

Liz was shaking and had tears streaming down her face; “Can I come in?” Her teeth were even chattering. Max couldn’t have said 'no' to her in state if he wanted to. “Yeah sure, come in.”

Liz slid through the window and landed on her feet, looking around the room, she choked back tears as the words came out of her mouth. “Kyle kissed me.” She waited for his reaction, expecting the worse.

Max blinked, he blinked again. That couldn’t have been true, Liz wouldn’t kiss someone else, especially not Kyle. “You kissed him?”

Liz nodded, “I was walking to the jeep and he came out from behind me and started saying stuff like we were meant to be together and…”

Max interrupted her, “He said you were meant to be together?”

“Yeah, he said that when we put the pendent back together it awakened some killer and that Kyle and our protector came into town to find us.”

Liz felt like jumping off a bridge by the look on Max’s face. “Max, I-”

“Did you kiss him back?”

Liz didn’t answer him. She started sobbing, “I’m so sorry Max.” She reached for him but he pulled away from her. His own eyes filling with tears. “I’m I not good enough for you?” He asked with pain in his voice.

Liz cupped his face in his hands, “Max, please don’t ask that. I don’t deserve you! I’ve screwed this all up for us now!”

Tears were in his eyes, “Is there anything else?” The pain in his heart was so deep he couldn’t take it.

Liz bit her lip before telling him. “I got flashes….”

Liz and Max sat on his floor, leaning up against the wall, just under the window. They had stopped talking over an hour ago when Liz told him about Kyle and were just sitting there, listening to the rain.

Max lifted is head up from where it had been resting on his knees and looked at her. “How could you kiss him?” he tried to make himself sound less heartbroken than he truly was. He never thought that Liz would do that to him or their relationship.

“I don’t know,” she rested her forehead in the palm of her hand; “I don’t like him at all.”

They sat in silence for a few more moments, when one of them finally did speak it was Liz.

“What’s going to happen…with us?” she asked watching him intently.

He shook his head, “I don’t know.”

Liz reached over and touched his shoulder, “Max, whatever you deicide, just know that I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you. Ever.”

Liz’s alarm clock the next morning broke her out of her unmerciful slumber. It seemed like it took forever to fall asleep and only a short time for her alarm to go off.

“Shut up,” she reached over and shut it off.

She groaned as the last nights events came flooding back. She had screwed up so much she doubted it would ever recover.

Alex knocked on her door, “Liz, wake up, it’s time to go.” He pounded, “You set your alarm too late. Come on.”

Liz got out of bed and opened her door.

“Hey-whoa,” Alex said once he got a look at his sister. “What happened to you?”

Liz rubbed her eyes and sat down on her bed, “I kissed Kyle.”

Alex felt his eyes bug out of his head, “You what?”

“I kissed Kyle last night.”

“Does Max know about it?”

Liz nodded and groaned again.

Alex sat next to her, “He didn’t break up with you did he?”

“I don’t know…”

Alex hugged her, “its okay. It’ll be okay.”

“How?”

“Liz what?!” Maria yelled into her phone, which scared Michael and caused him swerve the car.

“Hey!” he yelled as he got his car back on the road. He didn’t say anything; he knew that Maria wouldn’t answer anyone while she was on the phone.

“I cannot believe that!”

He glanced at her quickly, her eyes were wide and mouth hung open wih surprise.

“Yeah, I’ll talk to you in school, yeah. See ya, Alex.” She hung up her cell phone and turned to Michael, “Liz kissed Kyle last night!”

Michael couldn’t believe it, “What does Max know?”

She nodded, “Liz said she told Max last night after it happened.”

“How did he take it?”

“Not too good from what Alex says.” Maria put her hand on Michaels shoulder as he turned in the schools parking lot, “Michael, just letting you know, if you do anything like that, I’ll kill you.”

Michael parked the car, “Don’t worry. But if you kiss someone else, I’ll send my dad after you…beer and all.”

“Okay, so, I have to meet with Alex and Liz before too long, they said that there was more but they wanted to tell me in person.” Maria glanced around the parking lot, looking for the jeep. When she spotted them, she leaned over and gave Michael a kiss, “I’ll see you later?”

Michael nodded, “At lunch, but I’ve got to find Max now, see how he’s doing.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”
_______________________________________________________________

Alex waited by the jeep for Maria to come over.

“Hey, where’s Liz?” Maria searched for her, “Did she stay home?”

Alex walked over by her side, “Yeah, she was feeling really sick over everything; and mom and dad took one look at her and told to say home.”

“So they know what’s going on?”

Alex shook his head, “Nope, they just think she’s sick.” He stopped Maria while they were walking, “Listen, this is what I needed to tell you in person.”

“What?”

Alex took in a sharp breath, “When they kissed, Liz got flashes, weird ones.”

“No, way!”

Alex continued with he story, “Liz said he was saying all this weird crap to her about being meant for each other, that when they kissed Liz said she all of these scary images.”

“So that basically tells us he’s the alien?”

Alex nodded, “But that’s not it.”

Her eyes grew wide, “There’s more?”

He whispered to her, “He said there was another one. But, he also said there was a killer in town.”

“Love Bug?”

Isabel looked to see Alex, walking over to her. He put his arm around and led them to the Eraser Room.
Isabel laughed mischievously, “Why, Alex, I didn’t know you had it in you…”

Alex pulled her in and brought her lips to his, when they broke apart Isabel stared at him in wonderment, “Alex, you’ve never done that before!”

He cupped her face in his hands, “Listen to me Isabel, I don’t ever want anything to happen to you, ever.”

She hugged him to her, “Alex, nothing is going to happen to me!” She ran her fingers through his hair, “Nothing is going to happen.”

Alex felt tears come to his eyes which shocked him, he was not much of a crier, “Isabel, I just want you to be safe, please.”

She pulled back and looked him in the eyes, “Alex, what happened?”

He pressed his forehead against hers, “Isabel, Kyle’s an alien. And he said there were two others in town and that one of them was the killer.”

Isabel gasped, “What?” she watched his face, his eyes let her know how scared he was for her. “Alex, are you sure?”

He squeezed his eyes shut, “Liz kissed Kyle last night and she said that she saw all of these things coming from him.” He moved away from her and sat down on a near by box, “He told her that the pendent awakened the alien killer and that he came here with out protector.”

“Alex, are you okay?”

Alex looked up, “What?”

Isabel walked over and put her arm around him, “Are you okay?”

He thought about it, sure he was upset with the situation, but he was scared now that he knew the killer was in town. “I don’t know.”

Isabel laid her head on his shoulder, “Alex, I want you to know that you can talk to me about anything, okay?”

He took her hand, “I know Isabel.”

Max tried to pay attention to his Math Teacher, Mrs. Fields but it wasn’t doing any good. What had happened between Liz and Kyle last night had been on his mind all day. He may have been angry with Liz but he knew in his heart that Kyle had done something to her. Of course, having Kyle in the same class didn’t help any.

He felt so betrayed. It was as if the bubble him and Liz had over them was broken and they were susceptible to outside forces like any other couple out there. Everything was going so fast around them that he was not even sure if he knew what was going on. First, there was the whole thing with River Dog and the pendent.

Then they got the flashes, which he was not sure where that had led to yet. Now, there was Kyle saying he was an alien and that he brought another with him. His head was spinning just thinking about it. Shifting in his seat, he looked up at his teacher, trying to listen. Things had gotten weird and were getting weirder.

When class was letting out, he was stopped by a voice behind him. It was the last voice he wanted to hear right now, it was Kyle’s.

“Hey, Max, I need to talk to you,” Kyle called out to him. He ran up to Max and put his hand on his shoulder, “Dude, I really need to talk to you.”

Max glared at him, feeling this strong urge to punch him. “About what?”

Kyle looked around and led over to the corner of the classroom, “Liz kissed me last night.”

“Yeah, I know.”

Kyle acted surprised, “You do?”

Max nodded, “Yeah, man, I do. And I want you to stay away from her.”

“So, you’re just going to stay with her after she does that to you?”

“Yeah, pretty much. But if you don’t get out of my way, I might just have to punch you in the mouth, okay?” Max pushed past him and rushed out of the classroom.

Pierce rubber his temples, where he usually wore glasses, but lately he had been wearing contacts. He just spent hours going everything they had gotten so far. No wonder why Topolsky let her work get so piled up. Rolling his chair over to the side of the room, his grabbed a piece of blank paper, when he rolled back to the desk he was working at he began to write down everything that stood out to him.

He was gathering questions that he needed answered as well as the ones they already had from pervious time they had an alien in their custody. He felt confident that Liz was whom he was looking for, because if she wasn’t, she had too many strange going on around for a teenager.

Flipping his cell phone open, he dialed Agent Smith, when she didn’t pick up he left a message. “This is me, call when you get this. I need some more about the blood tests from when Liz and Alex Parker were adopted.”

That was what confused Pierce, they had blood tests done that came out normal. He needed proof. Sure, it was easy for him to sit in office and yell at Topolsky about her lack of progress, but once he got to Roswell and began to go through the documents, he understood why she was having trouble. He got out of his chair and went over to coffee machine. He filled his cup and over to the window, it over looked Roswell, not that there was much to over look to him. The office building he was in had been abandoned about two years ago. At least he had an office he reminded himself. The funding they had for special Unit was very little and so when they sent Topolsky to Roswell, they left her with little to work with.

He cleared his throat and went back over to his computer, clicking on an e-mail about the medical examiners results from one of the two bodies found outside of Vegas. As he read the e-mail, he paid no attention to the lights flickering, just overhead. He began to become more and more interested in what he was reading when heard footsteps on the roof. He looked up and listened for more, when nothing happened he shook it off and went back to his e-mail.

“So you told her the pendent awakened an alien killer?”

“Yes. I have question...should I call you Nasedo or Kalsen?” Kyle asked. He and Kalsen were sitting in their car, eating lunch.

“Just call me Nasedo. Ed will work until I change shape though.”

“Okay.”

Ed took a bite of burger, he could not taste it very well, but most Earth food tasted that to him. He reached into his glove compartment and took out a picture. It had a woman in her mid-twenties, standing next to a man looking about the same age, with an older man across her and a middle-aged man next to him.

“Is that Serena?” Kyle asked glancing over at the picture. He had seen a couple of photos of her and Cal as well as one or two of Larek.

Ed handed it to him, “I got this from Sadie the other day when I met with her. She said it was latest one they had. They don’t know who the guy with her is however.”

Perplexed, Kyle asked, “You mean they didn’t follow her?”

Ed shook his head, “Sadie said that when they began to follow her she disappeared into thin air, no where to be seen because of the crowd, same with Larek and Cal.”

“And they couldn’t sense her?”

“She told me that from what she had been told, the Antarians that came to Earth have the ability to keep themselves from revealing the hormone that lets us know they are there. It something, she said, that they have to develop with their powers. That’s why we can still sense Liz, Maria and Alex.”

Kyle jumped in, “Because they don’t know how to do it?”

“Exactly. And we need to keep it that way.”

Taking the picture in hand, Kyle looked for and thing that would tell him where it was taken. “Where were they?”

Ed thought about before answering, “I believe she said it was in Idaho.”

“Serena’s in Idaho?”

“Last I heard, she became a Mormon and settled somewhere in Utah. But she has moved fifteen times in seven different states. It’s harder to track her because of that hormone not being put out.”

Kyle chuckled, “Is it true she got married?”

Ed nodded, “That’s the guy with her. They’ve been married Eight Years.”

Kyle pointed to the older man, “What about Cal?”

“West coast, not sure what state.”

“And Larek?”

“Mid-West. He’s a Cop. Cal’s a Judge, has four kids and moves every four to 22 months like Serena.”

“So,” Kyle started out, “How come they don’t just go in and kill them?”

“Let me tell you something, Serena, Cal and Larek are the three strongest Antarians on this planet. Serena is the one that gave me that scar under my shoulder on my chest.” Ed pointed to his shirt, “IT still hurts when I change shape.”

“Yeah, but still-”

“Kyle, if you or I or any other Skin tried to go in and even throw a rock at one of them, we’d be dead in no time. We are simply not powerful enough to have a battle with them.” Ed scolded him, “There are some things we just can’t do, and getting in a fight with those people is one of them.”

Kyle scoffed, “But we can just go in and find the Royals?” He was amazed at how Ed thought. What was more important, killing your biggest threat or tracking down three lonely and very underdeveloped teenagers who couldn’t even throw a rock?

“My job was to find them and your job is to get out bargaining chip so the rebels will give up.” Ed told him, trying to get the child to understand. You cannot just go in without a plan.

He patted Kyle on the head, “Well, now that we have the FBI after Liz, it’s time to think up a good reason why you two are meant to be together.”

Thank you for all fo your support with this!

There are some lines from the show in the part I don't own them.

“River Dog?”

“Yes?” He opened his eyes; it had been so long since he became bedridden. He called Julia after he sat off the device, friend of his and had her take him to where he was now. Julia was shocked to him but when he told her who he would be staying with, she let him go. “How’s your little family coming along?” he asked her. She had told him not long after he had arrived that she wanted to start a family.

The woman looked at him with a smirk, “We’re trying.” She handed him a cup of coffee that she made him, she didn’t drink it. She never liked the taste. “What about you?”

“I miss her.”

She took his hand gave a knowing and sad smile, “I know how you feel. I’m so sorry that happened to you.”

“After nearly forty years I still cry.”

“Max, Max, wait up!"

Max heard Liz coming up behind him; she called him fifty times in the past two days, much to annoyance of his mom. Max loved her, but he still needed time to think about what happened. He wanted to forget it, but he knew unless he worked it out on his own he would keep seeing a mental image in his head every time they kissed. He feared getting flash of really happened.

He stopped as she reached him, “Yeah?”

Out of breath, she leaned on her knees. When she lifted up, it became obvious that she hadn’t slept in while. “I need to talk to you.” Her eyes were getting bags under them, and her hair was stringy and hanging around her face.

“Liz, we’ve already talked about this, I need some time to think about this.” He said as he turned to leave, “We are still together; I just…need to deal with this.”

She grabbed his arm, stopping him from leaving, “We need to talk about this, Max.” The looked on her face was desperate.

“Liz, I told you.” He adjusted his backpack with his other arm, “I’m, going to be late for class.”

When she didn’t let go of his arm, her eyes were pleading with him to let her back in. Finally, Max gave in and motioned to the door. “Let‘s go.” He watched as she fumbled with her keys, “You know I’m ditching school because of you?”

Liz smiled at him, “I’m a bad influence.” When she saw he wasn’t smiling she backed off with the joking. It wasn’t a good time to try and make a wise crack. “Sorry, bad timing.” She said as they got in jeep, “I tend to do that.”

“Do what,” he pulled on his seatbelt, “joke at bad times?” He noticed she wasn’t starting the jeep up. She put the keys in the ignition, but she wasn’t starting it. “Liz, why are we going?” he asked her, waiting for her to answer.

She didn’t answer him; she just grabbed him and kissed him, holding on to him as tightly as she could while they kissed. He tried to pull away at first, not ready to be with her like this yet, but after a few seconds of it, he couldn’t help himself and gave in.

Kissing her back with equal fervor, he held onto her just as desperately. He knew he should not give in, but he wasn’t about to care at this time. Both felt every emotion they had experienced in the past two days pouring out in this one kiss. Anger and pain was evident as was the love and sadness.

“Max,” she whispered in between kisses, “Please forgive me.” she pleaded with him. Her hands were on the back of his neck, bringing him closer. This wasn’t one of their soft and sweet kisses, this was passionate, almost rough their feelings made their way into the moment.

He might have feared it, but Max could feel the flashes about to start. He was tempted to pull away before they started but she wouldn’t let him. She was going to keep him where he was.

Max saw things he never thought he could see; Liz by herself on her bedroom floor sobbing. Her watching him as she told him what happened with Kyle; her pushing Kyle away from her. He could feel her anger at Kyle and at herself, her guilt as she went home last night from work.

After what seemed like forever, they broke apart. They stayed close, holding the other. Max brushed the tear running down her cheek away, “Shh,” he pressed his forehead against hers.

“I am so sorry, Max.” She ran her fingers through his hair, “I don’t know what else to say…”

He kissed her softly, pulling away quickly to reassure her. “It’s okay.”

They stayed like that for a few minutes, enjoying the way each other felt.

Liz gazed at him in the eyes, “Can you forgive me?”

Clearing his throat, he threaded his fingers through hers, “It still hurts. And I don’t think there will ever be enough reason for what happened, but…” he trailed off he adjusted himself in the seat, “We can work it out.”

Relief covered Liz immediately once she heard Max say that. It was all she had hoped for. “Thank you,” she had his face framed in her hands, “so much.”

They didn’t get out of the jeep for a while, just being with each other.

Max and Michael were sitting next to each other in their word history class, whispering to each other when the teacher wasn‘t pay attention.

“How are you and Liz?” Michael asked.

Max watched Mr. Hansen, “Better. Not back to normal, but better.”

“Do I work tonight?”

Max nodded, “Liz and I have date,” he noticed that Michael raised his eyebrows.

“Ohh, a little making up to do?”

He threw pencil at Michael, “Shut up.”

“And I’m sure you’ll do the same.” Mr. Hansen said standing over the two boys as they sat in the back of class. “This is last time I will warn you two.”

Michael mouthed “After class?” to him. He nodded, turning his attention back to class.

When class let out, Max and Michael picked where they left off with their conversation. “Anyway, Liz and I have a date. You know, to work things out?” Max said as he made his way to his locker, school let out in the processes the halls becoming crowed in no time.

“You just forgave her so fast?” Michael asked, “If that happened with me and Maria I don’t know how it would take us to get over it.” He put his hand Max’s shoulder, “I commend you, man.”

Max closed his locker, “I never said I was over it.” He began walking to the doors, “We’re just going to talk.” He motioned to the exit, knowing that Michael had to meet with a teacher about a test he had missed, “See you at the café!”

Ed put down his binoculars as Kyle got in the car, “You got everything ready?” he asked Kyle.

“Yeah. Do you?” Kyle asked, motioning to the ad in a local paper about the fair in town. “Are you sure that Pierce is ready?” Kyle knew it was partly his plan to make the FBI go after her, but he had to be sure it went off without a hitch or there would be hell to pay. “I don’t want to have a whole race of people on my shoulders.”

Ed laughed softly at him, never looking him in the face, “You already do.” He turned the ignition, starting the car, “She’s meeting Max at the café tonight. They’re thinking about going to dinner. From what I heard they were just going to talk about the kiss.” He turned a corner, watching the jeep passing them up, he saw Alex look in the car, knowing who was in it.

“What if this doesn’t work?” Kyle asked. However, he instantly regretted asking the question. Ed never played well with someone who was insecure with a situation. He had to know what and when everything was happening or he was mean.

“If you don’t know than you aren’t ready to find out.”

“Hey, Isabel, it’s Alex. I was just calling to see how you’re doing. Call me when you get this. Bye,” Alex moved hang up the phone but he stopped himself, “Oh, and I miss calling you love bug.” He placed the phone down on the hook.

“Alex, I’m leaving, I told Max I’d meet him at eight.” Liz said as she came down from the stairs. She was wearing a pair of dark blue jeans, with a grey shirt and small leather jacket. “See ya.”

He heard the engine start up in the jeep and listened for it to pull out of the drive way when he heard to phone ring. He walked over and picked it up, “Hello?” he answered, only to have heard Isabel’s voice on the other end.

“Hey, Alex.” her warm voice floated through the line, “My mom heard that message,” she laughed. “Teach you to leave a message on my home phone.”

He turned bright red, “I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay. Did you want to do something tonight?”

“Yeah, sure.” He looked at his watch, “Liz has the jeep. Her and Max are going to dinner I guess.” He shifted sides with the phone, “Wanna go to the movies?”

Isabel held her hand over the phone, “Mom!” she whispered loudly, “Can I go to the movies?”

Her mom smiled at her and nodded, “Have fun, honey.”

Isabel winked at her, and mouthed ‘thank you’ to her. “Do I need to pick you up?”

Alex read his watch again. “Yeah. See you soon?”

“Yeah.”

________________________________________________________________

Ed glanced around the café, making sure Liz wasn’t anywhere around. There couldn’t be two of her walking around in such a cramped area. When ‘she’ spotted Max coming out of the back, she waved at him.

They stepped outside and Max looked at her, “Hi.” Max said simply, he wasn’t in the mood to be sweet. He wanted to talk about what happened. They agreed that this wasn’t a normal date. They weren’t ready for that just yet. Instead, they planned on getting through the Kyle situation the best they could.

“You ready to go?” Liz pointed to the car. It was a black convertible.

Max stopped mid-step once he saw the car, “Whoa” he said motioning to the car. “Where’d you get this thing?”

She shrugged, “Alex needed the jeep.”

He looked back at the car, “Yeah, but, I didn’t think your parents owned this type of car?” Max thought Liz seemed different tonight. “Do they?”

Liz winked at him, “It’s my little secret. Now, get in, this is my night to make things up to you.”

Max hesitated when put her hand on his arm and tugged him towards the car. “Liz, I thought you and I agreed that this wasn’t a real date?”

Getting ‘herself’ in check, Liz nodded and smiled at him, “You’re right. I’m sorry. I guess I got ahead of myself.” She looked at him puppy dog eyes, “Please get in?” she begged.

Max thought something was different about Liz tonight, she wasn’t herself. Not that she had been herself lately, but right she was just down right different than normal. He swallowed and got in the car, it had black leather seats and the top was up. “Liz,” he turned to her as she got in the drivers side. “Where are we going?” he never thought he’d see the day when he was scared to go somewhere with her, but today he was.

Liz didn’t say anything as she started the car, which made Max even more worried, “Liz.” He said trying to get her attention, “Liz, I said, where are we going?”

When she didn’t answer again he grew more nervous, and when he saw how fast she was going, he felt his stomach begin to quiver. “You’re going to get stopped by cop!”

She didn’t respond; she just kept on driving.

________________________________________________________________

Liz walked nervously into the Crashdown, she searched for Max, she knew she was a few minutes late. She sat down and waited, she didn’t dare go in the back less his mom was there. After a few minutes of waiting, however, she was ready to risk it. Max wouldn’t ditch her and if he did, well, Liz would have to a talk with him.

Just as she was about to get up, Michael came up to her. “Liz, where’s Max?”

“I was just wondering the same thing,” she told him. “Have you seen him?”

Michael scoffed, “Seen him? Liz, you guys just left!” he didn’t know if Liz was trying to play a bad joke on him or what. “I’m not falling for it.” he folded his arms.

Liz shook her head, “What are you talking about?”

He laughed, “Liz, please, I saw you come in here and walk out with him.” He stared at her, trying to break her straight face. When he saw it wasn’t happening, he felt his smile fade, “Are you telling me the truth?”

Liz nodded, her mouth gapping, “Of course. Michael, I have no clue what you are talking about.”

Michael pointed to the door, “But, you were-” he scratched his head, “You don’t remember getting Max like five minutes ago?”

________________________________________________________________

As they drove out to the desert, Max kept trying to get Liz to talk to him, but it wasn’t working. She just kept ignoring him. He was convinced something was going on here. “Liz, why aren’t you answering me?”

Liz slowed down and pulled over, about fifteen mile outside of Roswell. “Max, let me ask you a question.”

“What?”

“Can you help me get something out of the trunk?”

He glared at her, “What?” he held up his hands, “I’ve been asking you to talk to me for the past ten minutes and all you can do is ask me to help with something in the trunk?” He yelled as he got out of the car and followed her around to the trunk. “I mean, come on, what are crazy?” he asked as she opened the trunk.

“What do you think-” he stopped when he saw the contents of it. Blood, lots and lots of blood. He saw a leg twisted and an arm that was clearly broken. Hair messed up and blood spattered all over the blonde. He felt sick, “Is that a body?”

When Liz turned to look him in the eyes, he saw something he hadn’t before. Her eyes were jet black, and she had an evil smile on her face. With as many thoughts as were running through his head at that moment, the only one that could make its way to his mouth was: “You’re not Liz.”

She smiled bigger as she walked toward him. He was backing up, “Get the hell away me!” he yelled. ”You’re not Liz!”

“No, I’m not,” she said, grabbing hold of his collar, “And if you want to see her again, get in the car.”

Max tried to pull away from her grip but it impossible, she was too strong. She pulled him with her to the trunk.

“Let go of me!”

“Shut up!” she held on to him as she reached in pulled the body of the woman out. She twisted his arm behind his back and shoved him to the ground, “Take a look at her face!”

Max gasped as his face came with inches from the dead woman’s. Her face read pure terror, there was with burn mark in the shape of a palm print on her chest. She was dressed in a women’s businesses suit.

“Stop!”

“Take a good look! This is what will happen to you and Liz and all of your friends if you don’t your ass back in the car now!”

Max let out a breath as she pulled him back up and led him the passenger side. “Get in!” she demanded and Max complied.

“Stay here while I make phone call.”

Max sat in his seat as she slammed the door shut and turned to call someone.

He reached in his jacket and pulled out his cell phone. He called Michael, when he picked up he whispered into the phone, “Michael, this isn’t Liz. This is the killer.”

“Wait-”

“Michael, this isn’t Liz!”

“Max I-” Michael was cut off by Kalsen grabbing the phone from Max. Max looked at the Liz impersonator, she looked so much like her.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she asked coldly, “What, you think Lizzy is going to save you?” she scoffed, “Silly little man.”

Max watched as she got in the car and drove away, the tire squealing as she slammed on the gas. Liz pulled Max’s cell phone out of her coat pocket, “I hate these things,” she said as she threw it out the window.

“Tell me something Max,” she said calmly as they neared the carnival grounds, “What is like being with someone you know will truly belong to you?”

When he didn’t respond, Liz grew angry, “I don’t have ‘human emotions’. I want to know.”

“How can you not feel things?”

“Okay,” she looked at him, “I feel…hate…anger. But not love. It’s against my ‘programming’ I guess you could say?”

“Programming?”

“Yes, when a shape shifter is born we have certain things programmed into us.” She stared in his eyes, “And love wasn’t programmed into me.” She stopped the car and put it in park. “Get out.” she commanded, when he didn’t move she pointed out the window and yelled, “NOW!”

Max jumped and got out as fast he could. He didn’t dare run, she or he, what ever it was would just catch him. She drug him over by a pay phone and handed him the phone, “Call Liz.”

“What?”

“Do it!”

With his hand shaking Max dialed Liz’s number, “Come on, come on,” he whispered under his breath. “Max, is that you!?” the real Liz practically yelled into the phone.

“Liz, this is the killer! She’s you-” The other Liz grabbed the phone from him.

“Hey, baby, how’s it going?”

The real Liz held the phone away from her ear as her own voice was heard from the other end. “I swear to you, whatever or whoever you are, I kill you if he has a scratch on him-”

“Who said he’d have scratch?” She laughed into the phone and winked at Max, “Call me Nasedo. Please”

“Nasedo, I will-”

“Save your threats, Liz, they don’t work with me.” She pulled on Max’ arm, bringing him closer to her cold frame. “Listen, I need some bait. Something about Pierce watching you and how I need to kill him. Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that if you don’t get your ass down here to the fair in an hour, I’ll be using Maxie here as bait.” She smiled at him again, “And trust me, I’ll be more than happy to do so.” She hung up the phone turned to Max, “That should get her down here.”

Topolsky took a long drink of beer, “You don’t think he would this soon do you?” she asked Summers in reference to Pierce. Her and Summers where at his motel room, drowning in their sorrows, Topolsky for her job, Summers for trusting Burns.

“Well, if Smith is as mean spirited as they say…”

Kathleen sat her beer down, “Not Smith. We all know she’d act now, but what about Pierce. I mean come on; we don’t exactly have the highest financing in the FBI.” Her words began to slur, she was becoming drunk. “I could have waited and more than enough proof that she was alien…”

Summer pointed out, “Ah, it’s not the alien thing that upsets them. It’s the whole killing people part that worries them.” He saw how Topolsky was looking at him, “Okay, maybe the alien has a little bit to do with it.”

“Why do you think they’re here?”

Summer reached across the table they were sitting at in his motel room and took her bottle of beer and sipped from it. “To get this killer off of the street?”

“No,” she shook her head, taking the bottle out of his hand, “The aliens. Why do think they came to Earth?” she blinked and opened her eyes wider than they were before. “Really, why do think they’re here?”

He thought out it, “Truth is, I don’t really know.” He didn’t think about that part too much. He wondered in the past why they came to Earth but he never focused on it. To him, it distracted him from his work to wonder if they had come to take over the Earth. He was about to say something else on the subject when his cell phone rang. “Summers?”

“Agent Summers, this is Agent Smith.”

“Yes-”

“Please tell Agent Pierce that he can find my body on the way to carnival.”
________________________________________________________________

“Hello? Hello?” Liz screamed into the phone, they were in her home. After Max called Michael they picked up Alex, Maria and Isabel and went to back to her house.

Alex went up and placed his hand on his sisters shoulders, “Liz, where are they?” He asked only to have her pull away. He grabbed her harder, not enough to hurt but enough to get her attention, “Liz, where are they?”

“We have one hour to get to the carnival.” She said breathless. “Why did she take him to fair?”

“Because Pierce wants you.” Kyle said as he stepped in her room.
________________________________________________________________

Topolsky and Summers where on their way to meet with Pierce when they got a phone call. “This is Summers,” he answered.

“Summers, we found her.” Pierces voice drifted into the ear piece. “What’s left of her.”

“What?”

“That…thing killed her. And we know its Parker. Burns saw her getting into her car right where she dropped off the body.”

Summers held hand over the phone. “Liz killed Smith.”

Kathleen felt her stomach drop out, “What?” She didn’t want to believe that Liz would do that and she wasn’t sure she did. “How do they know?”

“They saw her driving away from the body.”

“She had someone with her?”

She watched as his face changed with every word that made its way into his ear hit him. “Evans?”

She felt tears come to her eye; Liz was the killer they had been searching for. Still bitter for the way Pierce had treated her however, she knew someone that would be interested in what happened. She made sure Summers was still on his phone to Pierce when she dialed a number on her phone, waiting for the owner to pick up.

“Hello?”

She took a deep breath, “Valenti. I think you should know about this….”

________________________________________________________________

Jim listened in awe as Topolsky related what all she knew to him. It wasn’t much but it still shocked to hear of such a dramatic way Liz was caught. He stood there as she informed that they were at the fair, “How do you know?”

“That’s where Agent Burn followed her car to. He can’t act alone, she’ll kill him.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I think you needed to know more than anyone.”

It took a moment for it register when she hung up the phone. When it did click, he grabbed his jacket and yelled, “Tess, honey I need to leave!”

“Wait!” she called as ran out of her room.

“No time! Stay here, I’ll call you later!”

“Uncle Jim, Wait!” When she reached the kitchen, he was already gone. She glanced out the window and saw him peel out of their drive way.

Kyle sat in the back seat as they drove to the carnival. Liz was driving. Normally, someone would complain about how she was driving, but no cared, they were just as worried as she was.

“Liz, Nasedo isn’t the killer!”

Liz yelled, not looking back, “Really, cause it sure as hell sounds that way?”

Kyle rolled his eyes, “Liz that was to protect you!”

“By killing someone?” She asked in shock, “As me?”

Alex glared at him, “What is going on?”

Kyle cleared his throat and hoped he got everything in his story straight. He knew the details that were 100% true, it was the fiction he hoped he got right. “Liz and I are meant to be together. Ms. Topolsky is not a counselor. She’s an FBI Agent. She’s from the special unit. Pierce runs it with an Agent Smith, the one that was killed.”

“The special unit?”

“They are simply here to tract our kind down. But they focus on this killer that they’ve been after for forty years.”

“And they think that’s Liz?” Maria called from beside him.

Kyle didn’t answer.

“So why does Nasedo want Max?”

Kyle ran it through his head before answering, “They think you’re the killer. Max had been noted as being your boyfriend. That’s why Nasedo needs him.”

Liz slammed on her brakes as she came to the fair grounds, “Kyle, tell me now, how many Agents are there?”
He didn’t answer as they jumped out of the jeep. Liz walked up to him, “Answer me!”

Kyle pulled out a picture he had of Pierce, “That’s Pierce. You already know what Topolsky looks like. “

“Will Nasedo really kill Max?” Michael asked as he took Isabel hand in his, they were both close friends with Max and felt the same concern for him as did everyone else.

“If he has to.”

Alex ran up and punched him the face, “You PRICK!” He yelled at him while Kyle hit the desert floor, “Where are they?” he asked him.

Kyle pulled himself up, “Just look for Liz. You’ll find both of them.”

“Let’s split up,” Isabel suggested, “If one of us finds him, they’ll find the rest of us.”

Everyone nodded and went separate directions, with the exception of Kyle and Liz, who followed her every move.
______________________________________________________

Max walked behind ‘Liz‘, trying not to seem afraid to anyone on the outside; “My Liz will find me. We love each other.”

Liz scoffed at the idea, “Yeah, you humans know a lot about love. I’ve seen what you do to each other,” she said rolling her eyes.

“Coming from someone who has murdered people in cold blood I find that a compliment.”

Liz almost killed him right then, only she caught sight of Pierce first, “Come on, this way.” She pulled him towards a large house of mirrors.

“Why?” Max asked looking around for any reason she might have made the sudden movement in the opposite direction, they were going in. “Pierce is here, and he saw us.”

“What?”

Liz pointed him out in the crowd; Pierce was now walking to them, with five agents behind him. “Great, more people to kill.” She said callously.

She led her and Max in to a house of mirrors, “In here.”

Liz had to do a double take when she saw her. Her double, dragging Max along into a house mirrors. Her heart skipped a beat when Max disappeared behind the wall. She prayed he didn’t get hurt.

“Kyle, you’d better pray that Max doesn’t get hurt.”

He smirked, “I don’t believe in God, Liz.”

“Well, I do, and trust me, if Max gets hurt, you’ll be first of us to meet him.” Her tone of her voice made Kyle not second guess her. “Stay here and wait.”

“But-”

She turned and pointed to where he was standing, “Stay. Here.” When she saw he wasn’t moving, she went into the house of mirrors. “Max” she called softly, where was he?

She walked around, going through the halls, looking for him, when she saw the last person she was expecting, the Sheriff.

“Liz?” he asked, this wasn’t right, he just saw her, wearing different clothes and he knew she didn’t have time to change. “Liz, what’s going on?” he asked but didn’t get an answer, because right then a gun shot went throughout the house, breaking one of the mirrors. He ducked out of place; the broken mirror left a wall for him to duck under so he could watch what followed, he was too freaked out to do anything else.

“Max” he heard Liz call from behind a clear wall, but there was another Liz with Max. What was going on?

_________________________________________________________

Max stood there frozen in place as He saw Liz behind the clear glass wall. Hoping he would hear before anything else happened; Liz called through the glass, “Max! Get out of here!”

“Not without you. I’m not leaving without you!” he said as he placed his hand on the one thing that was separating them. Liz paced her hand over his, trying to touch him, anyway she could.

Just then Max felt the other Liz come through on his side, pulling him out of the way. “Liz!” Max tried to get away but Kalsen wouldn’t let him, “Come on!” she demanded as she tried to pull him away.

“No, Liz is still in there! Go get her!”

“She gave me orders. I have to get you out.”

“No.” Max pleaded, hoping for any kind of budge from the impersonator. “Max, get out of here!” they heard the real Liz call as two FBI Agents came in the area Liz was in. “Freeze!” one man yelled.

Liz turned back to face Max and her double, “Get out of here! NOW!” she yelled.

BAM!

A second gunshot went off. Only this it hit someone.

Liz felt something rip through her. She was pushed up against the thin glass wall by the force of the bullet.

“LIZ!”

She heard Max yell. Blood began to come out of her mouth, “Get him out of here…” she said as she began to slide to the floor. She watched as Nasedo or whoever it was drag Max from the room him screaming the entire time.

“NO! LET GO OF ME!” Max felt hot tears pouring down his cheeks. He tried to get away from her but she was too strong. “LIZ! PLEASE!” he sobbed as her double flung him on the ground. No one was around at the small area of the fair they were at. “Shut up! They won’t let her die.”

“But…Liz…. I can’t…she can’t.” Max fumbled on his words.

The other Liz knelt down and said through gritted teeth, “They won’t let her die! She’s too important! Now, if you could shut up I can start trying to get her back.” Liz looked around; her dark emotionless eyes spotted the rest of the group running up to them.

“Max! Liz! Is everything okay?” Michael asked running to them. Alex took one look at the Liz in front of him and knew that it wasn’t his sister. He then drug his eyes down to the ground and saw Max trying to speak but was choking on tears.

“Where’s our Liz?” Alex demanded as he stepped up to her. “You’re not my sister.”

“No, I’m not. And now thanks to her little human friend here she’s in the hand of the FBI with a gapping hole in her chest.”

“No!” Maria gasped out.

She put her hand up and changed her shape. She was now a he and he was now a hobo, gunning out to find somewhere to start his mission on getting her leader back.

Alex dropped to his knees next to Max, who was now sobbing, “Max, is Liz all right?” Max shook his head. “She told me they wouldn’t let her die….” Max trailed off and Alex pulled him into a hug. “She’s…. They have her…” Max broke down again, this time along with Alex and Maria and Isabel.

Kyle almost bowed over, this was not supposed to happen, Liz should have not been shot. He glanced at Kalsens frame, becoming increasingly distant as he ran off.

They stood up to leave when they saw some teenagers coming their way. “Come on, let get outta here before it’s too late.” Michael said in a warning tone, they all gathered them selves together the best they could and headed for the jeep

1:30 AM. Day one.

“Sir, I believe she is waking. Would you like us to render her unconscious longer so the experiments can be prepared?”

Pierce watched Liz, as she lay on the floor. She was waking, and he wanted her awake. She needed to pay for what she did to Smith. “No,” he said in disgust, “Let it sink in that she’s here.”

________________________________________________________________

Even through her closed eyes, Liz could sense how bright it was in the room. She didn’t dare open them yet, fearful of what she might see. There was a slight humming coming from somewhere. But she couldn’t tell if it was from the room or some place near it.

“It’s time to wake up now, Liz.”

Whether the words were coming from inside her mind or someone was talking to her she could not tell. She turned her head, her eyes still closed, and waited.

“Liz, wake up.”

Groaning, she opened them, only to shut them again quickly. The light was too intense for her take. Her heart pounded in her chest as she slowly opened her eyes again. This time, however she shut them again when she saw what was in the room. Nothing but bright light. Not just any type of light, white light. She squeezed them shut; hoping it would make the room disappear and she would be in her home, in her bed.

A few minutes later, when she did get up, she looked around the room slowly, taking it in. No doors, no windows, just walls. Her body was shaking as she pulled herself up and she noticed that she was no longer wearing her normal clothes. She was in white scrubs.

The feeling of nausea was so powerful; Liz had to keep herself from thinking about it. Trying to focus on something else, Liz thought back to how she wound up in the room. She didn’t remember much after she was shot.

I was shot?’ Liz opened her scrub top away from her chest to search for any evidence of it only finding a small scar from where it entered her chest. ‘Did I heal myself?’ she asked silently. She looked down again, confused. She didn’t remember doing that. The humming sound started up again, breaking Liz away from her thoughts. “Hello?” she softly asked.

“Good morning Liz. How is your chest feeling?”

“Where am I?” She asked, not expecting to get an answer, it was easy to see she wasn’t getting out anytime soon.

“I have very simple questions for you Liz. You can answer them, and I make things easy, or, you can to this the hard way and not answer them. Like you have been for the past few years.”

Liz leaned back up against the wall where she first woke up, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“What is the name of your home planet?”

Liz swallowed; she didn’t even know the name. She didn’t say anything for a moment, while the impact of what was actually happening to her began to hit her. Tear filled her eyes, there was no use lying, who ever it was already had her blood probably. “I don’t know,” he whispered, not loud enough for it to hear.

She heard the voice take in a deep breath, “Okay then, we’ll do it the hard way.”

Maybe it was her being light headed or maybe it was how disorienting the bright room was but before Liz could do anything she on a table, strapped down with men in with white doctors suits standing over her. She kicked and screamed, “No! Please, don’t!”

One of the doctors slammed her head down on the table as he inserted a needle in her arm.

She tried with all of her strength to fight him but it was becoming harder and harder by the moment. She looked up when one of them placed some sort of a fluid on her right eye, causing it to begin to burn. They repeated the same step over on her left eye rendering her unable to see what they were doing to her. By now, however, everything was fading away because of what they had given her. She could hear there fading voice saying something about skin samples and such.

“No…I…don’t…please…”

She felt like she was drifting away, but not before she felt the scalpel cut into her abdomen.

“Kyle, where did they take her?”

Alex screamed back at Kyle once they had reached his home; the ride had gone almost silent from shock.

Maria pulled on Alex’s arm, “Your parents?” she motioned up stairs. He turned back to her, tears brimming in his eyes; “They just left tonight for a few days, a second honeymoon kind of thing.”

He faced Kyle again; “Where did they take her?”

“I don’t know…”

“Cut the crap Kyle! Tell us, or so help me I’ll-”

“The White Room. They took her to The White Room.”

Max wiped his eyes and stood up from his seat on the couch; “What the hell is the White Room?”

Kyle didn’t look at him; he just stared at the floor.

This time Michael got in his face, grabbing him by the collar, “You heard him. What is it?” he demanded, he may not have been as close to Liz as Max or the others were, but he still cared about what happened to her and considered her as one of his dearest friends for saving Max’s life.

“It’s a place where they study people like us. They created it back in ’47 when the ship crashed.”

“What do they do to people in there?” Isabel asked, not truly knowing if she wanted an answer.

Kyle had difficulty forming his words. “They see how you react to pain. Sometimes it’s things like electrocution, other times they may cut you open or take you apart to see what and how your body reacts to.”

This time, Maria started sobbing along with Max. Alex gagged at the thought of what was happening to Liz at this very moment. “Oh,” he held his hand over his mouth.

Max choked on his words as he looked at Kyle, “But, they shot her?”

Kyle rubbed his face; he had to tell them a little bit of truth regarding what their bodies were capable of doing. “When we have an injury, something like a gunshot wound or a knife stab, our bodies are able to heal the wound to an extent, and even if Liz’s couldn’t they wouldn’t have let her die. Pierce still wants to study her.”

Alex stood up and walked up to Kyle again; “Do they know who we are because of Topolsky?”

Kyle cleared his throat, “Pierce sent Topolsky here to monitor Liz, to make sure she was really the one.”

“The killer?”

Kyle nodded.

Alex slammed his fist into the wall, “Well, that’s just great!”

Kyle rolled his eyes, “Hey, we could have stopped this if Liz would have listened to me the other night.”

Standing up, Max glared at him, “When you kissed her?”

Maria spoke up, stopping what could turn out to be a deadly fight, “Guys, lets think about how to get Liz out.”

Kyle spoke up a little too soon, “Ed or Nasedo told me where the Base is they took her to.” ‘Crap, now they are going to jump on you for not saying that sooner.’

“Where is Ed?”

Kyle shook his head, “I don’t know,” he said honestly.

Michael stood up, “Well, I’m not waiting around for him, let’s go get her.”

Kyle held up his hand and almost yelled, “NO! You humans cannot go. You’ll just be in the way.”

Unable to take his crap anymore, Maria walked over to him and put her hand on his shoulder, turning him around.

“Hey, we basically just met you and the only thing we know about you so far is that you live with Nasedo, a guy you call our protector. Who, in my opinion, has done one of the worst jobs of protecting someone I have ever seen in my life!”

He opened his mouth to say something only to be cut off by Maria.

“Not only that, you do something to Liz to make her kiss you, tell her you’re meant to be together, making her life a living hell!” She yelled even louder at him as her rampage of the past week continued.

“Your Nasedo takes Max, threatens to kill him, all the time being in a Liz costume, kills someone as bait and then does nothing when Liz is shot! You people are the biggest pieces of crap allies and protectors! How is any of that supposed to help us be safe?”

Everyone was quite as Maria continued to pour her feelings out on the table for the world to hear. “All you have done since you came to Roswell is lie! And now you tell us that our ‘humans’ can’t go help us save Liz?”

Maria had to take a breath before she exploded with anger, “Do you even know what the word human is? Max, Michael and Isabel have done more to help and protect us than you and Nasedo have, could or ever would do in you life times. Therefore, my suggestion to you, Kyle, shut up, and don’t speak or answer anything unless we ask you to. I think that if you and Liz are meant to be together than you’ll do that in order to get her back.” She walked over and took Michael’s hand in hers, “That is…if you care about her in any way, shape or form.”

Looking around at everyone Kyle swallowed hard, “Are you done?”

Maria, nodded, “For now. Okay, first things first. Where is she being held?”

Kyle blinked, inciting a reaction from Maria.

She yelled at him again, “Well, gerbil, where is she being held?”

Kyle held up his hands, “West Rock. It’s about thirty minutes outside of Roswell, I can take you there.”

“How can we know if she’s okay?” Isabel asked from the back. Maria and Alex looked at Kyle.

“Alex, you can dream walk right?” Kyle asked.

Alex nodded.

“Dream walk her. If you can get through to her in any way, then you’ll know she’s alive.”

Max broke himself out of his thoughts about Liz being all alone, with those evil people doing things to her… “What if we can’t get her alone?”

Kyle tilted his head to the side, “What do you mean?”

Max rolled his eyes, “What if we aren’t enough to get to her? What if we need help?”

Alex walked over reassured him, “We’ll be enough. And if we’re not…we’ll think of something. It is Liz. We will get her back.”

Maria looked at Kyle, who flinched when she spoke to him, “Well, I suggest you start thinking of ways to get to her since you know more about this kind of stuff than we do while Alex dream walks her.”

4:30 AM, Day One.

Liz could only comprehend two things, that humming sound and pain. She had been lying on that table for heaven knows how long. She lifted up her head, which took a lot of effort, and looking down to where they had cut open her stomach. They left her shirt up, leaving her abdomen exposed. It looked like they had opened her up just to sew her back together.

She let out a small cough as she laid her head back down. Lifting it up had used too much energy and energy was something she lacking right now. She blinked and tried to squeeze her hand but she felt needles in it. She glanced down the best she could to her hand, there were wires and IVs connected to her in several places.

She heard footsteps coming from behind; it startled her and caused her head to begin to pound once more. She looked straight ahead, not wanting to think of what they were going to do to her next. Only this time, the doctor released the straps on her and pulled out the IV’s. Again leaving her alone.

Her heavy breathing was all that could be heard in the room at this point. The humming sound had stopped when the doctors left the room. Tear began to come to her eyes when the thought of everyone she loved came flooding to her. Where they safe? Did they know what was going on?

The tears caused her eyes to burn from the substance they put on them before. She might not have been able to see them but she knew that they would be red and look irritated.

So many thoughts swam in her mind as she lay still on the table. Knowing that she didn’t have the strength to pull herself off it yet.

Humming started again. Where was that humming coming from?

After several more minutes, Liz glanced around the room. No one was in there with her. Struggling, she tried to lift herself up off the table but she couldn’t. She yelled as her stomach ached. Two more tries and she finally gave up and rolled herself off it and on to the hard tile floor.

The force of impact knocked the wind out of her fragile body and made her begin to feel nauseous again. Rolling on to her side took deep breaths as she waited for her strength to return. However, it did not yet; in fact, the exact opposite happened as she felt herself once more slip into unconsciousness.

_____________________________________________________________

“Do you think she’ll be able to handle much more, sir?”

Agent Pierce stared into the room from a window he had. The agent’s question had not fully registered until he asked him again, “Sir? Do you think her body will be able to take much more, the doctors reports say she is extremely weak.”

Agent Pierce watched her some more, she was lying on the floor and her eyes were closed. Even after just one of the many tests, they were planning to do to her she looked like she was about to die. Had he not held the knowledge of the evil things she had done he might have felt a bit of sympathy for her. Maybe.

“Let her sleep, we’ll start the real tests later.”

____________________________________________________________

Alex slammed his fist into the wall; “I can’t get through!” He felt himself start to cry again, it had been almost four hours since he started trying to get in Liz’s head but something was stopping him. He was failing his sister when she needed him the most.

“Kyle, does this mean something’s wrong?”

Kyle was not expecting the tenderness in Alex’s voice as he asked him the question. He’d gotten used to being yelled at all night so when Alex came to him and spoke to him like he knew what he was talking about, Kyle felt himself, for a moment almost regret having done this to Liz. Ed never talked to him like that. Even when Maria was yelling at him, he understood why, someone whom she considered her sister was taken and being tortured. Whenever Ed yelled at him, it was because he didn’t make his coffee right in the morning or because he could get a hold of a fellow Skin.

“Tell me, is it like emptiness when you can’t get through to her or is it like you can still feel her presence in your mind when you try to dream walk her?”

Alex thought about it for a moment, he took a shaky breath, “I can still feel her in my mind. I just can’t contact her.”

Kyle smiled at him sadly, “She alive Alex.” He placed his hand on Alex’s shoulder, “We’ll get her out, don’t worry.”

Alex stood up and walked into the dinning, “She’s alive.” Max jumped up and rushed to him, “You contacted her?” he asked frantically.

Alex shook his head, “No, but I can still feel her presence in my mind when I try to.”

“I guess we should start out then?”

Everyone nodded as Kyle walked into the room. Max stood up and grabbed his coat; “I’m going.”

Kyle looked at Max, “Listen, I’m not telling you this because of my personal opinions or anything. But, Max, where Liz is, you have to know what to do. And if she loves you like everyone is saying that she does, than I think she would want you to stay where it’s safe until we can get her back.”

Max glanced at Maria and Alex. Maria gave him a thoughtful expression; “I won’t make this decision for you. If you want to go, it is your call. But for once I have to say I agree Kyle about Liz wanting you to be safe.”

Max thought about it, he was going. “I want to go.”

Kyle walked up to Max, “Listen, stay here, we’ll save Liz and be back. We need people here in case something happens.”

Max stared at him, making Kyle feel uncomfortable. Alex walked up to him, “Max, I promise you, I’ll bring her back. Alive. It’s okay. Kyle has a point though; Liz wouldn’t want you to put yourself in danger.”

Max swallowed back the lump in his throat; “She did for me.” He said softly, “She did for me.”

Alex nodded; he knew what Max was saying. “It’s up to you.”

Kyle spoke up, “Max, stay here. It’s safer not only for you but also for Liz. They’ll use you to hurt Liz if they get you. Trust me, I’ve been running from these people all my life.”

As soon as Kyle said those words something inside Max snapped, he didn’t want to put Liz in any more danger than she was already in. “Okay, I’ll stay, but only because I don’t want Liz hurt any more than he said she is.”

Alex and Maria agreed. Maria looked at them, “Should we go?”

Kyle stopped; he couldn’t leave until Ed contacted him. He took a deep breath and tried to think of an excuse. “Guys, wait. Nasedo said that if anything like this ever happened than to wait until we know for sure it’s safe to go.”

Alex shook his head, “But Liz is alive!”

“That doesn’t mean you can get to her though. Alex, try a few more times and if you cannot get through to her then we take our chances, but I would be safe. Make sure it’s safe to go and get her.”

Maria felt confused, “Wait, how would Liz know if she’s locked up in this White Room?” she asked Kyle. She didn’t want to trust him but right now, she didn’t have much of a choice.

Kyle thought quickly, “If you can get through to her than that means we’ll be able to find the room she’s in. The have hidden rooms in the base. They’ve changed the room that they call the White Room a few times for safety.”

Alex wanted to go now but he didn’t have a choice if it meant a better chance of saving Liz. “Okay, I’ll try again.”

___________________________________________________________

Ed sat outside the base, waiting for the right time. Things had gone a little awry but they were getting back on track. Now he was outside, he could see some agents standing outside. He could hear them talking about the tests they were running on Liz.

He moved a little in brushes, getting a better view of the window he was going to be sneaking in. Unnoticed, he waited until the agents left and made his move. It was ironic to him; he was saving someone who he was planning on either killing or taking back to the home planet for ‘political’ reasons.

A little squeeze to the right and little ducking and he was in the building, making sure no one saw he went and hide in the basement area. He reached into his pocket and pressed a device the skins used to contact each other.

He was letting Kyle know it was time to move. He took the bind he had on Liz’s mind off; Alex could contact her now. When she was this weak, he would be able to keep Alex from dream walking her. Now that he was in, he would let Alex do, only so he could see Liz was alive and not so well.

Alex lay on the bed, Michael, Maria, Isabel, Kyle and Max all around him. Alex touched Liz’s picture again, falling asleep.

He walked around the room; it was white and too bright for his eyes. Glancing around, he stumbled back when he saw the state of his sister. She was strapped to a table; her stomach had been cut open. He watched as she laid still, her eyes closed. He heard a humming sound coming from somewhere.

He stood in complete shock at the sight of Liz. She pale with dark circles around her eyes. He walked over to her and reached to touch her, “Liz?” he choked out.

Liz began to cough; she was waking up. He was propelled out of her dream state in flash.

“LIZ!” he yelled as he woke up. Isabel and Maria came rushing to him; “Alex is everything okay? Is Liz okay?” Maria asked.

Alex shook his head as he got off the bed, “She’s hurt. They’re doing something to her. I think they've hurt her!"

Kyle looked down to the little orb in his hand; it was lighting up. He looked up, “Time to go.”

Jim Valenti drove down a back road, not knowing exactly where he was. He didn’t know what to think. There were two Liz Parkers in front of him, and one of them got shot. He felt guilt rip through him when he realized this was all his fault. He was the one that brought attention to Liz in the first place. There was no denying that Liz was innocent of killing anyone just from the way she acted in the house of mirrors. Jim saw fifty chances she had to kill an agent and get away but she didn’t act on them, she was more concerned over Max Evans.

It took Jim a while to be to figure out who was who, but when he saw the way Max reacted to seeing the real Liz, Jim knew. The Liz look a like must have been the one who killed that Agent. The feeling of guilt grew. Jim knew what he had to do. He had to get Liz safe; it was all he could do. He pressed on his gas peddle speeding back into town.

________________________________________________________________

Michael and Maria sat in the Parkers living room while the aliens were waiting to leave. Michael could feel her anxiety over Liz. She felt tense and her shoulders where tight.

“Maria, I want you to come back to me, understand.” He said softly, “I don’t know what I would do without you.”

She smiled sadly, and leaned into him, “Been getting pointers from Max?” It was nice to be with him right now. She was ready to go and get Liz but she could stay in his arms forever at the same time. The past few hours had been hell and she could feel every second building up.

He kissed her forehead, “You bring out the sap in me. With you, this comes naturally.” He whispered in her hair, “Plus,” he tried to lighten the mood, “My dad thinks you’re hot.”

He cupped her cheek and brought his lips down to hers, his every fear mixed with hers made it into a sad, yet hopeful, loving kiss. Tenderly pulling away Michael ran his fingers through her hair, “Maria, listen, I want you to know that -”

She touched her finger to his lips, “I know.” She felt tears come to her eyes for what felt the millionth time, “Me too.” She did not want him to say the words. Because if he did, it would sound like goodbye. She didn’t want to say goodbye to him.

She leaned up and kissed him once more, “It’s going to be okay, we’ll be back.”

Alex stared at the picture he had of Liz. He loved photography and had taken this photo last spring; right after Liz had tried to change a tire on her car. In the photo, she was cover in black gunk from the tire and did not know she had large black streak across the top of her mouth like a mustache.

Isabel sat next to him as he tried to come to terms with what was happening. Not just with Liz and the White Room but also with what he was about to do. He was about to break in a military base and free his sister.

After moments of sitting silence, Alex finally admitted, “Isabel I’m so scared.”

She felt so much for him, and seeing Alex like this killed her, “Alex, it’s going to be okay.”

He held up his hands, “What if we can’t get her out?” He cried, “What if she gets killed because I screw up?”

Isabel felt the lump in her throat grow as he began to sob in her arms.

“What will I tell Mom and Dad?”

She did her best to soothe him, “Shh, its okay. Alex, you’ll get her out of there.”

“But what if I can’t Isabel?!” he cried, “What if we can’t get to her in time or what if they kill her?” the last words came out of his mouth as a whisper.

Isabel placed both hands on the side of his face and made him face her, “Alexander C. Parker, you are strong enough to get your sister out of there and you will bring her back. Do you hear me?” she demeaned, “Everything is going to be okay.”

He wanted to believe her so much that he ached inside. But, something told him they were not getting Liz back anytime soon.

“Alex, it’s time to go.”

They both turned to see Kyle standing in the doorway of Alex’s room. He had come to inform them it was time to leave. “Okay, I’ll be there in a minute,” Alex replied, letting Kyle know he wanted to be left alone with Isabel.

Kyle backed away from the door; this was harder than he thought. Things weren’t going the way he had planed them to go. In his mind, once Liz had been kidnapped they would meet up with Edand save her before too much damage was caused. However, things were not going this way. Liz had been shot, Maria gave him the title of gerbil and Kalsen had just barely contacted him. He sighed deeply; he never knew how much they cared for other people let alone each other. Things were not like this on Sedna. He remembered Sedna well. He remembered the peace treaty as well as Ava breaking it for a slave. He squeezed his eyes shut tightly as the feeling of humiliation came back to him when Ava and the servant where caught in a compromising position, any time he began to guilty for what was happening to Liz he just had to think about that and the guilt would melt away.

So far, the night was not going good.

_____________________________________________________________

After they had left, Max sat alone in Liz’s room. He made Alex and Maria promise once more that they would bring her back safely. He stood up from the bed and began to walk around, taking the room in. He’d only been in it once or twice. He breathed in, smelling the sent of her room. The items in it were neat and tidy, her note from school and work were set neatly on her desk. Her bedspread was simple one, her bed was made. Everything in here gave away the appearance of a normal teenage girl’s room.

However, Liz was far from normal and as of last night, things had gotten worse. His head began to hurt from the thought. He felt the tears begin to form again as he stared at her room. Everything was in place. Nothing out of order and yet in real life thing were spinning out of control.

Maybe to most people Max and Liz would have been too young to fall in love as deeply as they did but most people did not share the connection that he and Liz did. And most people did not have to worry about their girlfriend being an alien. The thing that saddened him the most was that he knew things would never go back to the way they were after this. Too much had changed too soon.

“Max, are you in here?”

Max heard Isabel calling for him, “Yeah, I am in here.” He replied; he could hear her footsteps coming down the hall.

“Max?” she asked as she poked her head into the room.

“Hey Is,” he said, plopping down on Liz’s bed once more.

“Max, Michael and I just wanted to know if you were doing okay.”

Max rubbed his eyes; “I don’t think so. But don’t worry about me, Is.”

“Let’s go to the café after a while okay?” Isabel asked with a hint of hope, “Grab some coffee?”

Max nodded, looking back to Liz’s empty room, “Yeah.”

He did not know how he was going to make through this, it was too painful already and he was not even the one in the White Room.

After saying goodbye Alex, Maria and Kyle drove out to the base. They left the jeep behind a patch of tree so it would not be seen. “Okay, I’m going to get us in there but you have to follow everything I say, you understand?” Kyle asked Maria and Alex, who nodded.

He motioned for them to go through the fence, when they came a few yards from the door they hide behind a patch of bushes Kyle stopped them, “All right, I’m going to get us in there but you can’t say a word do you understand?”

He closed his eyes and focused on his mind on the guard at the door, “Let’s go” he whispered.”

Alex and Maria followed him up until they came right up to guard when they stopped. Alex was about to say something when the guard nodded at them, moved to the side, and let them in. They rushed around a corner and into a basement, where Alex and Maria both asked at the same time, “What did you do?”

Kyle leaned against the wall, trying to recover. He had not used that much energy in a long time, “I made him see something or I guess I should someone, which wasn’t there.”

Confused, Maria asked “What are talking about? How do you do that?”

Kyle knew that he had to tell them why and how he could alter people’s thoughts, “I can make people see things, it’s called mind warping. I have the ability to go inside your mind and make you see things that aren’t there.”

It didn’t take long for Alex and Maria to realize how Kyle had made Liz see and feel those things over the past few weeks.

“Why would you do that to Liz though?”

Kyle answered the best he could, “I knew that she wouldn’t remember me if I didn’t. Why don’t you try to find the person you’re meant to be with only to find out they don’t even know you exist?”

Maria scoffed at him, “I think your love life or should I say the lack thereof is the least of my worries right now.”

Coming out from behind them, Ed answered, “Now we need to figure out how we free Liz.”

8:19 AM. Day One. Stage One.

Pierce walked in to the room where Liz was being held; He could see her thin, fragile frame in the same place where she had collapsed a few hours ago. He studied her for a moment, looking at the marks on her arms. He could see the red area on both of her wrists from where the straps had been; he could also see the marks where syringes were inserted.

“Liz, wake up now,” he spoke softly in her ear, when she moaned in pain he brushed a piece of hair away from her face, it felt greasy. “Liz, I want you to wake up now. I need to talk to you.”

When Liz flinched but didn’t wake, he stood up and motioned them to come in and wake her. The doctors came in with a tub of ice water. They marched in and lifted her up, ducking her under the water, waking her with a shock.

Once she awoke she did her best to fight back but the condition of her body made it hard to muster the strength, “Stop!” she pleaded, but to no avail.

They ducked her under a few more times and threw her back on the ground where she rolled up into a ball and started shivering. Once she made it to the corner of the room Liz glanced around, they had taken the table out and the tub of water was gone. The only other objects in the room were a man standing a corner, with his arms folded across his chest and board with a lighted background.

“Hello, Liz.”

Liz sat in her corner, shivering, “Who are you?” she asked trough chattering teeth.

Pierce flashed a smile that made her sick, “I’m Agent Pierce. No need to tell me you do not know why I have you or anything like that Elizabeth, I have your blood. I also know that you were shot and healed yourself while you were unconscious.”

Liz shook, now it was not because she was cold, it was because this man was increasingly scaring her.

“What do you want from me?”

He looked at her, studying her for a time, “To explain something to me.”

Huddling in her corner that much more she responded, “Explain what?”

He walked over and pulled out x-ray photos, showing them to her. “I just got these back,” He said as he put them against a small lighted board. “See, all this time I thought you were the shape shifter, but, the shape shifter didn’t have the human bone structure like you do. That doesn’t change the fact that you’ve killed people in cold blood.”

Liz only stared at him; “I have never killed anyone in my life. I don’t why I’m here; I don’t where I’m from.” Tears formed in her eyes, “I’m just scared. I want to go home, I am 17 I‘m too young to kill someone. Please, just let me go,” she pleaded knowing it would not work.

Pierce would have believed her if he did not know better, “Don’t toy with me Liz, I’ve been studying your kind since I became a member of the special unit.” She made him sick, she was able to just kill someone yesterday and act like she had no idea what he was talking about.

“You may not be my shape shifter but you’re still progress for the Special Unit. We haven’t found one with your body type before.” He yawned, he didn’t get much sleep last night, maybe a few hours while she was out, “Liz, honey, I still want answers. I want to know why you kill people and why you killed Agent Smith.”

“I’m telling you, I’ve never killed anyone in my life. I don’t even know who Agent Smith was!”

He reached down and grabbed her arm, “Okay, you want to do things this way?” He yelled as he pulled her up. “I’m sick of this innocent girl act Elizabeth Parker.” Pierce drug her a few feet and slammed her against one of the walls.

“Ah,” Liz cried. She would have slid down to the ground had he not been holding her up. He grinned at her, enjoying the sight of her tears and the sound her pain. He had been waiting for this far too long.

“Don’t try the sympathy act with me Liz. I don’t give rat’s ass about your pain.” He said calmly as his hands let go of her arms and she slid to the floor, sobbing from the pain.

He turned and motioned to the door. “We’ll do things this way. I’ll get my answers Liz, anyway I can.” His face showed no emotion as more doctors came in, this time with another table and different IVs.

Liz shook her head, “I begging you!” she cried as they took and threw her on the table, strapping her down. “Please, I’m telling you the truth! I don’t know anything!” she begged as they hooked her up to an IV.

Pierce came over and stared down at her, “Liz, I gave your chance,” He pointed to two men in white jump suits; “This man on the right will hurt you. The Man on left will help you. It’s all up to you Liz.”

“Listen to me, I’ve never killed anyone.”

Pierce looked down at her, leaning in so his face was close to hers, “Fine Liz, one last chance, tell me what I want to know!”

Liz began to cry; “I don’t know what you are talking about please. I didn’t kill anyone.”

He began to laugh, “That is not what I’m talking about.” His slicked back dark hair was ruffled from slamming her against the wall. “I’m still on my first question.” He chuckled not facing her.

Liz coughed and asked in confusion, “What?”

He took comb out of his coat pocket and ran it trough his hair. “You never told me the name of your home planet.”

She let her head fall back on the table, she had forgotten about the question. It never crossed her mind that he hadn’t even made it to his second question. Earlier, when Liz sobbed it was hysterical sobbing, caused from all of the fear and pain sloshed together. Now, it was a gentle sob as she slowly began to realize that she wasn’t making it out of this room alive.

Ed handed Alex a piece of paper, “Here, this is a map of the building. Do your best to remember it, you will need when we get Liz.” Alex gazed at him, he was in the form of Ed Langley now, but he had a feeling he would change into someone else soon.

Maria was not completely convinced that Ed knew what he was doing; “Do you have idea as to how to get her?” she asked him. He did not appear upset like she would have expected him to; he just ignored her continued talking.

“Maria, you’re going to be with Alex as he logs this into his brain and continues to try and contact Liz.”

Maria nodded in agreement. She was scared; there was no denying that. She was scared for Liz. She told herself there was no time for fear right now. She would let herself crack later, but not now. Not when Liz needed her the most.

“Kyle and I will work on getting inside the room itself. I’ve already located where she is and mapped out a way to help her escape safely.”

Looking around Kalsen took in how scared they both looked; they were both standing still, doing their best to look in control of their emotions.

“Everything we do has to be timed and we have to it right, no room for second chances,” he said to them.

Noticing that they all were in agreement Ed pointed to Alex, “Alex, get started.”

_______________________________________________________________

“It’s going to be okay Max,” Isabel sighed as Max kept looking up at the ceiling. He hadn’t said much since they made it to the café. And when he did it was usually saying that he wondered if they were on their way back. It was ten o’clock and no sight of them. Thoughts swam through his mind of what was happening to Liz. He knew she was already being hurt, he just didn’t know how badly and that was tough thing. Not knowing what was going on was taking its toll on him.

Isabel looked across the table at Michael, who was seated next to Max. She gave a sympatric look at him, “Max, don’t worry, Liz will be okay.”

Agreeing in hopes of making Max’ worry ease, Michael joined in, “They are probably on their way back now.” The truth was that Michael said it as convincingly as he could but he didn’t really believe it. He knew they more than likely hadn’t even gotten to Liz yet. He played with his old straw wrapper as Max kept his face pointed towards the ceiling.

Michael had to give him credit; Max was handling himself better Michael would have if Maria was the one taken. Michael would injure everyone in his way. Still, he knew how much pain Max was in and how hard it was for him to not go with the others. Michael felt the anxiety begin to build up once more when his thoughts went to Maria and if she was all right. He kept reassuring himself that she was and that she would home soon. He figured Isabel was doing the same with Alex.

“Max,” Isabel reached over and gently squeezed his hand from across the table, getting his attention. “She’s probably out of the room now.” Her voice was full of false hope and Max could tell.

“I wish I could believe that, Is.” Max brought his head forward, his neck popping from staring straight up for so long.

Isabel clenched her jaw as she glanced at her watch, praying Alex was safe. She didn’t want to image if Alex was taken also. It would kill her. She had trouble getting through the thought of aliens existing and now that she cared for one that was in danger of getting hurt surprised her more than anything.

“Hey, can I have a word with you kids?”

Isabel swallowed, “About what, sir?”

Jim sat down and put his head in hands, “I’ve done something horrible.”

Michael cleared his throat, “What is that, sir?” he didn’t look at him.

Jim rested his chin on his hands, “For the past few months, I’ve been convinced that this girl was a killer. And because of me, she a lot of people paying attention to her.”

Max glared at him, hate filling his every sense, “And?”

“You see, last night I got this call. It said that someone else had been killed and they were sure it was her that had done it.” He felt tears prick his eyes as shame washed over him for actions. “I watched her get shot…but this is where things get strange.” He noticed how three set of eyes shifted over to him.

“There was two of Liz. I saw one of them get shot. I think it’s the one you love and care about…” he paused, taking a deep breath, “And the one who’s life I ruined.”

When no one said anything, he told them his plan, “I know some things about this that maybe I shouldn’t but, I want to make things right and get Liz out of where ever Pierce has her.”

Max stared blankly ahead, “We don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Nodding, Jim reached in his wallet and pulled out a card, sitting in front of Max, “Call me if you change your mind.”

Alex gasped for air and tried to regain his footing. Everything was spinning. He looked around the room, seeing only a small chair in the middle of it. There he saw the figure of Liz, her head hanging down with her hair covering her face.

“Liz?”

He stepped closer to her getting a better view of the condition she was in. Kneeling down he asked, “Liz?” Touching her shoulder with one hand and lifting her chin to face him, Alex was shocking at the sight in front of him. He didn’t see Liz.

He stumbled back, “Holy shit!” he yelled crawling away from the person in front of him. The eyes and mouth were sown shut with thick black stitches. The head flopped down as Alex turned away in horror. It was Liz’s face that he saw disfigured.

When he turned around again, Liz was in front of him, where the previous image had been. “Liz!” he crawled to her, “Hey, look at me, we are in the building. Please, Liz, Maria and I are here. We’ve come to get you!”

Liz was clearly trying to respond but she couldn’t, something was stopping her. Alex touched her should again, “What are you trying to say?” he asked. Her eyes were full of tears, mixed with fear and frustration yet relief to see him.

It was then he saw someone coming up behind Liz, placing his hands on her arms, “Time to go.” The man said to Alex. He wasn’t able to make out the face, but the man was talking directly to him.

“What?” Alex yelled as he felt himself being propelled out of the dream, “Liz No!”

Liz coughed as whatever they gave her wore off. She was confused at when had just happened, Alex was in the building? With Maria and they were coming to rescue her?

Liz was brought back to reality when she felt someone touch the stitches on her stomach. She wasn’t sure why they opened her up. It wasn’t from the bullet, the bullets was in her chest. Lifting up her head to see what the person was doing to her, she was shocked to see the doctor staring directly into her eyes. She had seen them before; she just wasn’t sure from where.

Liz soon realized that it was just the two of them in the room together. He was holding a clip board with paper on it, taking notes.

“What are you doing?” she whispered hoarsely.

The man in the white jump suit put his finger over his lips, “Shh.” He moved his way up her body, taking notes. Once he made it to where he could talk quietly to her, he answered, “I’m seeing how the incision is coming along.”

“Why did you cut me open?”

The man flinched at the question, “Once we found out you have human bone structure, we needed to see what was on the inside.” He kept looking down at her, “I believe you.” He said, moving away from her.

Liz felt tears prick her eyes as she started to say something. But she was stopped when two hands came around her face, cupping it.

“How are you feeling?”

She recognized his voice. Liz rolled her head, trying to get him off of her. “It’s alright Liz.”

She scoffed, “I‘m sure,” she whispered.

Pierce snapped his fingers and pointed to the table she was tied to, “Get her off of here. Let’s give her a break?”

Before Liz knew it, she was on the ground, looking right at his black dress shoes. She rested on her elbows, “What do you want from me?”

Touching the back of her head gently, he laughed, “Ready for your next question?” He waited for Liz to respond. When she didn’t he chuckled, “It’s okay, I won’t do anything to you yet for not answering. You can think about it.”

“Where is the pendent?”

She heard his footsteps depart, not waiting for an answer.

Ed listened to Alex jabber on about his last dream walk. He was saying something about how she couldn’t talk and something was up with her eyes; he didn’t care enough to pay attention.

“Did you let her know we were here?” he asked, trying to get his mind off the whimpering.

Alex nodded, “She couldn’t talk, but I think she knew what I was saying.”

Kyle stood off in the corner, looking out for anything. So far, Ed had been able to keep them in here for a few hours, but he still wanted to put off rescuing Liz. ‘I want her to suffer,’ is what he told Kyle. He thought about the last time Ava had talked to him back home, before she died. She yelled at him about war and how things would never change between them, that she didn’t want to marry him. Kyle enjoyed the memory of killing her. It was one of the last things he did before Serena and Larek killed him. So much had changed since then. So much bloodshed, so many wars. He was shocked to hear of how Larek, Cal and Serena had settled down into their own lives.

Thankfully, Ed and he found Liz, Alex and Maria first and the others where barley heard from. Kalsen always warned him that if Larek, Serena or Cal ever found their queen the war was a good as lost.

“You and Kyle have been putting off rescuing her since she was taken. Now it’s almost 1 o’clock, she has been in there over twelve hours! Heaven knows what all they’ve done to her.”

Kyle was brought out his thoughts when he heard Alex. He and Kalsen shared a knowing look. It was getting close to rescuing her. He listened as Kalsen let Alex and Maria know just how hard it would be to even get to the room Liz was being held in.

“You see that?” He asked, pointing to the door, “That is our closest obstacle to Liz, but it is not the only one. After that, if we make it, you have the scanning area.”

Maria put her hands on her hips, “Shape shift.”

Ed laughed at her naive nature. “You don’t understand how my body works do you?”

“No.”

“I have not bone structure like you. I can change they way I am on the outside, but on the inside, that’s a different story.” He looked at Alex, “Are you getting it?”

Alex closed his eyes in defeat, “So we can’t get past the scanner?”

Kyle stepped in, “Unless you change your finger print.”

“What?” Alex stared at him like he was crazy, “I can’t shape shift.”

Ed brought Alex’ attention to him, “Yes, you can.” He stopped Alex before he thought too hard, “Don’t worry, Kyle over here has already taken of that for you. He’s Agent Matthews according to the scanner. May he rest in peace.”

“You killed him?” Maria asked. Ed rolled his eyes at her, “Lesson number one, kill or be killed.”

He turned to Alex and Kyle, and with a wave of his hand, they were wearing suits. He did the same to Maria and she was in a woman’s business suit. “Keep a low profile; I’ll sneak in behind you guys.”

Before Alex and Maria could question him he raised his hand and changed to a man, pointing to Alex, “Agent Morrows.”

He sat by the door; he waited a few seconds and then motioned them to walk out.

Right as soon as they did, a gun in Alex’s back stopped them.

“Get back in there.”

1:35 PM. Day One

Liz sat in a corner of the room. She had her knee tucked under her chin, trying to keep herself warm. However long she’d been in the room had been hell. The things they did to her where…evil. If she looked Pierce wrong he would do something to her. She never knew someone could enjoy watching as someone scream until they passed out and their throat was bleeding just from pain. She never imagined someone would want to put a person through this. This wasn’t a room, it was torture chamber. All he did was torture her.

Her body was sore, and the stitches on her stomach hurt like hell. But, Liz’s body already seemed to heal it. That was what kept Liz from know how long she’d been in there. With no way to know how long she was out at a time was frustrating. For Liz knew her parents where home now and she could have been missing for days. How all this came about was still a blur to her. She didn’t even know how this shape shifter got to Max. Max. The thought of him made her want to be strong. He was safe she hoped.

“Hello, did you get a good rest Liz?”

The sound of his voice made Liz want to vomit. She glared intently at the direction the sound was coming from, “How long have I been here?”

“About twelve hours.”

Liz felt tears form quickly, “That’s all?” her voice was shaky.

“Well, Liz, ready to go again?”

Liz looked over to the other side of the room, Pierce was walking to her. “Answer me.”

“I don’t know where the pendent is.”

He shook his head at her, “I am ever so disappointed in you Liz.”

A door opened and doctors began filing in, pushing a chair and table in. Pierce pointed to Liz, “Put her in it.”

The doctors went over and picked Liz up, sitting her in the chair, making she was strapped in.

“Thank you.”

Pierce was watching as the doctors hooked Liz up to a machine; “What are you doing to me?” she asked. Pierce rolled his eyes, “Getting my answers.”

Liz shook her head, “What kind of answers do you want?” He walked and slammed his fists down on the table where the machine was; “I want to know everything about you Liz. I want you to tell me about the shape shifters.”

Doing her best to stay under control, Liz looked at him, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Pierce backed off, “Please, I’ve spent long time studying your kind. Don’t lie to me.”

Before she was able to say anything in her defense, Pierce stood back and pointed to Doctors to start the machine. After that, nothing was left to be heard but Liz’s screams.

“Stop! Please!”

The men did not listen to her, they just walked around her, and taking notes like she was some sort of experiment. “Her vital signs?” she barely made out one of them saying.

She gritted her teeth, tears streaming down her face. Trying to block out the pain, but it was no use; what ever it was they were doing to her was extremely painful. “Please, stop” she sobbed.

Pierce watched everything, even when they took the wires and everything off of her and placed her on the ground he watched her. When the procedure stopped, he returned over to her side, “Is she showing any reaction to some of the tests besides the pain?”

The Doctor nodded, “Her body seems to be trying to regain its power, much like it did when it healed the bullet wound. It is her natural ability to heal. She appears to have an incredibly strong immune system.”

“What about her powers, they are still dormant aren’t they?”

Searching through his charts the Man answered him, “Our papers say that the injection should work for several hours. Nearly a day. Just enough time to begin the procedures on her to see how her powers function differently from the others the way you wanted.”

“Good, I want every inch of her to be studied.”
