Chapter 3: What is going on?
~Two heads are better than one~
“He’ll be standin’ by me. Just another half of. The two headed freak. But I need him like. My heart needs to beat.” “Me & My Friends” by Red Hot Chili Peppers
“I want to know what that was all about between Michael and Max?” asked Philip, he was very worried about his son’s apparent psychotic behavior.
“That was not Max entirely, that was also Zan,” said Isabel as she tried to get comfortable in the old mine. Everyone gathered around; the parents were quite concerned after the displayed they just witness.
“I do not understand, honey,” said Diane, placing a comforting hand on Isabel’s shoulder.
“Our former lives have been coming out more and more lately. We cannot stop the feelings or the memories from returning,” explained Isabel.
“Was that what Zan really was like?” asked Philip.
“No, well yes sometimes, I think.” Isabel rubbed her neck. “I still do not remember everything Dad, just incidents, and yes Zan could be very cold and heartless especially to Rath, I mean Michael.”
“What happened with Michael?” Jim pushed the envelope, “His ribs. Did Max do that?”
Kyle glanced at his father, before putting his head down, “No, Michael was tied up, raped and beaten almost to death.” The silence was deafening as the parents one by one reacted to the rape either verbally or non. Loud gasp escaped from Dian and Nancy throat as they placed their hands over their mouths.
“What? Kyle why?” demanded Amy even in her opinion Michael did not deserve that.
“Someone attacked him in the apartment; we don’t know who it was.” Kyle then pointed to Maria, Isabel and himself, “We three found him.”
“It was horrible mom,” interjected Maria. “There was so much blood, and he was…” Maria started to cry as he saw Michael tied up again. Amy came up and hugged her daughter, so could not begin to understand what a traumatic experience it was for her daughter to walk into.
“Why did not Max heal him?” asked Jim.
“Isabel and Maria kept all us males away from Michael afraid we may upset him, I tried to help but he panic when he saw it was me...”
Kyle was interrupted by Isabel, “No he panicked because you were a male and a male did that to him.” Isabel continued the story, “I healed the superficial cuts and marks, figuring Max could heal the bruises and torn muscles the next morning when Michael was calmer.” Isabel wasn’t about ready to give more details than she figured the parents could handle. “Something happened between the two and Michael left, he must have headed straight here.”
“He was coming home, looking for someone to help him,” Diane noted sadly. “We are al that poor kid has to turn to.”
“So why didn’t Michael stay with you and Maria? There is more that you are not telling us,” interrogated Philip turning on his lawyer charm.
“We have been having problems, Max, Michael and me, for about a year now.” Isabel slowly began. “Our former selves are taking over, memories are surfacing.” Isabel took a deep breath this was going to be hard. “Things came to a head in the last few months, things we could not help, feeling we cannot help, memories vivid and alive.”
“What happened, Isabel? No matter what we will still be here for you,” soothed Philip. In the last couple of years, he had learned that he needed to accept his children’s decision, but that he did not have to agree with them.
“It was because of Michael, Isabel and me,” Maria let the bomb drop. “Michael’s been remembering who Rath was and began acting more like Rath, especially in his feelings for Vilandra.” Maria pointed at Isabel. “Michael was fighting Rath; kind of like having a spilt personality not knowing what the other side is doing all the time. Rath would sneak out, awaking Vilandra and the two of them would disappear for a while. Michael slowly realized what Rath was up to but it was too late, as he and Rath are becoming one. Michael has taken on Rath’s desires, mannerisms and wants and vice versa, I guess.”
“Talk about being two faced,” Kyle smarted off.
Isabel finished for Maria, “Rath is back and wanted Vilandra, because he is merging with Michael, that he could no longer deny his feeling for me as well.”
“I found out about Michael and Isabel, I was so angry that I threw him out of our room and told him I wanted a divorce.” Maria knew with that statement the shit was about ready to hit the fan as he braced for her mother.
“What? You are married?” You could hear Amy screaming back in Roswell. “When? Where? Why? Are you pregnant?” Amy was shaking her head in disbelief. “I need a stiff drink.” She wrung her hands together, “I will kick his alien butt back to Antar myself.”
Maria sighed, opened her purse and got out her cedar oil. Taking a few big whiffs she finally answered, “Yes married. Three months ago in Reno. Because I love him. No I am not pregnant. And no you will not kick his alien butt back to Antar, it is mine to kick.” Maria looked at Isabel, “Half mine?”
Isabel stifled a laugh and nodded. She then opened her mouth to speak but stopped for a second, trying to find just the right words. When none came she said it like it was. “Vilandra is very jealous, cold hearted, evil and let’s face it, a bitch.” Isabel felt Vilandra side making her way out and stopped her personality from totally taking over. “Vilandra, no I, was angry with him, that he dared to take another wife with my permission. I am married to TellymonRath, we have children, and now he did this. I was so angry at him for not asking me.”
Isabel’s eye turned black as her voiced changed slightly, “I am to be Queen of Kandahar, I was destined to be Queen of Antar.” Isabel started pacing as she slowly won back control. “Vilandra would make Rath pay for his deceit and I did. But then after I calmed down and started to think right, I knew the only way to solve the problem was to talk it out.” Isabel started rubbing her temples, her eyes returning to normal. “That is what Maria and I were planning to do when we walked into the apartment and found Michael.” Isabel sighed, “I don’t know how much is me anymore and how much is Vilandra. I feel the two sliding into one slowly.”
Diane came over and hugged her daughter. “You will always be my Isabel no matter what happens?” Diane gave her a kiss on the cheek and held her tight.
‘When did this problem come out asked Philip trying to figure out a time line.
“I found out about those two almost a month now.” Maria noted.
Liz interrupted, “From there on things only got worse. I sided with Maria and blamed Isabel for their breakup accusing her causing the affair with Michael. Max sided with Isabel, that led Max and I to separate.” Turing to Isabel, “Isabel I am so sorry I said all those tings. I had no right.”
“That is okay Liz,” Isabel came forward and gave her a hug. “We were all acting pretty irrational there for a time. I said some horrible things also about you and Max, just to hurt your feelings. I am so sorry. ” Liz smiled and hugged her back.
“I blamed Michael because he cannot control his damn alien hormones. I really like Isabel a lot and I guess I was more than jealous when he show attention to her and she reciprocated.” Kyle kicked the floor, his eyes cast down as he admitted his part in the whole affair.
“Maria and I did not help the situation; we fought with each other and with Michael yelling, calling each other names, saying terrible lies.” Isabel regretted each hateful word. “At night we both cried ourselves to sleep. That just infuriated Max and Kyle even more “
“I did my part when I order Michael out of the apartment and made him sleep in the van. Kyle and I both insisted that Max send him away for good. I cannot believe that I acted so childish and fed into this whole us against him scenario. It was so wrong, I see that now.” Liz had tears in her eyes. “Max and Michael started fighting terribly. Max accused Michael of hurting both Isabel and Maria; he even accused him of betraying him on Antar. They came to blows several times over the last few weeks. Then all of the sudden Michael stopped fighting. He just took Max’s blows and yelling and walked away.” Liz’s voice became very soft at the end. “Something happened to Michael, I knew it but I was too filled with anger and hatred to see it.”
The parents were silent as their children unloaded their burdens. How could their children commit these outrageous acts? It was obvious there was much that needed done.
“Is that why Michael is working so much?” Jim asked.
“Yeah he wanted to stay away from us,” said Kyle. “Can’t blame the guy. We were all pretty mean to him.”
“What about you Maria, do you still love Michael?” Amy asked knowing what the answer was going to be. It was in the cards that Madam Vivienne had shown them.
“I still love Michael, it is not his fault their elders had them reborn here on earth and left them in hands of traitors. If they had known from the beginning who they were, Michael and I would have never met.”
Isabel interrupted, “Maybe it was destined for you to meet, it is because of you Maria that Michael found his human side. Rath is like Zan bitter cold, heartless when he wants to be. Maybe this Rath will be more balanced, more loving.”
“And you Isabel,” Philip questioned, “are you in love with this Rath.”
Isabel thought a moment; “I am in love with Rath and Michael. Vilandra had a great love and devotion for Rath. I know that. I feel that love. I cannot forget a lifetime. We have kids together; we had a life, a wonderful. I cannot forget. That love has transcended over to Michael because he is TellymonRath.” Isabel shook her head, “Sounds like some Italian B horror movie, the woman who loved the two head man. Which side will she end up with?” Everyone broke out in a nervous laughter.
“What are the two of you going to do?” Diane was having trouble accepting this strange arrangement her daughter was in. Plural marriages were just unacceptable.
“I do not know. Maria and I need to talk to Michael and settle this between us without anymore-outside interference. I know everyone is concerned but Maria and I need to make the decision and then everyone has to respect it.” Isabel’s answer was very logical.
“What about you and Max?” Nancy directed the question to Liz, “Are you still separated?”
“No, Max and I finally made up. Isabel helped in that. She told Max she loved him as her brother but she loved Michael as her husband and that was not going to change. Max had to accept that.” Liz stopped for a second, “After that Max and I had a long talk. We decided to stay out of it and work on our marriage. I think we are over the worst of it.” Liz went over and hooked arms with Maria, “Maria here helped a lot when she told me to butt my big nose out of her and Michael’s business.” Liz laughed
“Liz is my dearest friend always and I love her but I need her to understand and accept my decision.” Maria hugged Liz. “On the way here Isabel and I came to an understanding that we are going to work together to solve this problem.” Maria held out her hand to Isabel who took it. “Maybe we all grew up a little.”
“I guess I need to grow up a little also. I still like Isabel a lot, but she has feelings only as a friend and I do not want to lose that.” Kyle smile at Isabel and sighed.
“What about Max?” asked Jeff.
“Yes what about me?” Max said coming from out of the shadows. “Having a nice conversation my sister?”
“I was hoping more of Max would return and not you Zan.” Isabel looked at her brother as her eyes changed to black
“Why my dear sister? Max is weak, I am strong.”
“No you Zan can be cruel and evil, Max is kind and considerate.”
“Be careful of what you say to me Vilandra or I will…” Max stepped close to Isabel raising his hand slightly.
“You will what, Zan?” Michael was in the doorway. “Finish what were you going to say.” Michael’s eyes had turned silver in color as he came between Isabel and Max. “I told you before never to touch Vilandra, I meant it.” Michael defied Max to say or do something.
“Well Rath, welcome back.” Max smiled and walked backward, he sensed that now was not the time to challenge Rath or he would lose.
The parents were looking at each other; the three aliens were flipping in and out of personalities as if this was commonplace. “Spooky isn’t it?” Kyle remarked after seeing the expressions on their faces from Isabel’s two-faced one-man show to the entrance of the Royal Antarians. “You should see when all three are going at the same time, or should I say all six. Who needs to go to a Sci-fi flick when we can watch the real thing everyday?” Maria shot him a dirty look.
“So what is this new event that needs taking care of Jim?” Max eyes had changed back to normal.
Isabel remained behind Michael, her hand on his shoulder. Diane remembered what her daughter had said Michael was her protector always had been. There he stood, defying Max to keep Isabel safe.
“Like flipping channels isn’t it?” Kyle remarked to his father quietly.
Max circled the group. “Well what is it?” Michael never let his eyes off Max, in case Zan felt like making a return appearance.
Jim was completely floored by this flipping of personalities, one second Max, the next Zan. He definitely did not like Zan, he seem more of a loose cannon. “The sheriff has Michael Guerin locked up in jail,” he said flatly.
“What? Michael is right here. How can he be in jail?”
Michael looked over at Max, “Rath.”
“Oh great your duplicate is causing trouble.”
“No, this Michael imposter has been arrested for killing Hank. The sheriff found his body recently.” Jim interjected.
“They just assume I had something to do with it since the body has fused ribs, like Pierce.” Michael’s eyes returned to normal as he uncrossed his arms and relaxed his stance, continuing to keep Max under surveillance. Both Jim and Philip noted the interaction between the two, friendly yet cautious.
Max looked at Michael, “Nasedo?”
“I would say so, or another protector that we are not aware of.”
“We need to go and see Rath and get you off the hook again.”
“Again? Just like you to always accuse me of causing trouble.” Michael shook his head disgusted that he always blamed for everything.
Isabel came out from behind Michael feeling more confident, “Max do you have to fight right now? Can’t you just this once be the old Max and help to solve the problem?”
“Since when have I not been the old Max?”
“For a long time,” whispered Liz.
