We walked on in companionable silence for a little while...my mind was a whirl of thoughts...
I stole a glance at Alex...he had a calm,happy and contented expression on his face or that is how I read it.

"There's a bench" I said breaking the silence,pointing to the bench beneath a huge bougainvilla creeper,it was nearly as huge as a tree..."we can sit down for a while,before we go back inside."

There was the sound of music coming from the direction of house so we'd have to get back in there soon enough.

"Okay" I say leading her over to it and sitting down with her. I'm really really nervous. I swear I'm dreaming. I must be.

We're sitting under something that's almost as big as a tree. I have no idea what it is, but it's certainly pretty.

Since starting a conversation last time didn't go so well for me I decide to keep my mouth shut.

We sat down under the beautiful pink bougainvilla and I decided to say what was on my mind...I felt that I could trust Alex and my instincts about people were almost always right...

"You know,I haven't done this in a long time"...he looked at me inquiringly..."I mean sitting out in a garden at night with someone"

I smile at her. "Yeah, me too. Actually, it's my first with a lady. I somehow doubt my mother counts." I tell her. "And I have to say, the company is a lot better with you." I say smiling.

Isabel

I turned to face him and smiled at his little joke...
"Not bad" I said teasingly..."your jokes are improving"

"Oh right." I said. "Makes sense. So Michael, tell me about yourself. What are you intrested in? Are you a good horse rider? Will you be ok tommorow?" I ask quickly before snapping my mouth shut so I don't explode him with too many questions.

"Actually, I'm really bad at riding horses," I said, looking down for a minute embarrassedly. "But I'll be fine. How about you? Oh, and are you excited for your coming out?"

Once we'd finished dinner I suggested that we all listen to some music and perhaps dance...almost everyone agreed but I saw Alex leading Isabel outside
I smiled and nudged Michael who'd been to busy with Maria to notice that the usually awkward Alex was being quite bold tonight...
"Hey Mic,do you see what I'm seeing?" I said nodding in their direction

I turned on some music to which we could jive,turning to Tess I asked her to dance..."Would you do me the honour of this dance Tess?"

"What joke?" I ask confused. "I mean it Isabel. Looking at the flowers and the stars with you, it's just different from being with anyone. It's like entering the garden of eden with Eve. Perfection."

"Oh, well actually I'm a good rider, but I have to admit I tend to make a fool of myself on them. I'm rather clumsy. But hey, we can't all be perfect! And excited about my coming out....erm.....yes....."I say.
And then mutter "and no".

I couldn't say anything to that,a lump was forming in my throat and I quickly looked away so that he wouldn't see the tears in my eyes.
