“Really?” He said, still wrapping his mind around the tought. Isabel waited with bated breath for her brother’s response. “That is awesome.” He said coming over to Isabel and wrapping his arms around her. Isabel was so happy. She was afraid that Michael was going to freek out.

“I’m so glad you aren’t mad.” She said huggin him tighter.

“Mad? I’m going to be an uncle!” Michael said. patting Kyle on the back.

“I’m so excited.” Kyle said. “I’m just looking forward to telling the lovebirds.” He said sitting next to Isabel on the bed.

“yeah, I say we wait as long as possible on that one.” Isabel said. micahel and Kyle laughed and nodded in full agreement.

“You know, we really need to tell Jesse, though.” Kyle siad. Kyle really liked Jesse, and he respected him. He didn’t want to keep secrets from him. They had become rather close over the many phone conversations they had had.

“Yeah, I know.” Isabel said looking down. Just then, their cell phone rang. “Hello?” Isabel answered, thinking how weird it was that they were just talking about Jesse.

“Hey, Isabel. It’s Maria.” Maria chirpped into the phone. “How is it going?” she asked.

“It’s actually going really well. What about you?” Isabel asked.

“It’s great. Actually, I’m calling you, because I have some news. Actually, we have some news. Jesse and I. And we want to tell you about it in person.” Maria said bitting her bottom lip.

“Oh,” Isabel said. A light bulb went off in her head. She really did miss them a lot, and this would be the perfect time to tell them about the baby. It really wouuld be better to tell them in person. “Well, we all miss you. It would be awesome if we could meet up.”

Michael and Kyle gave her a weird look and then realized what Isabel was doing. “Well, where are you? And how long will you be there?” Maria asked taking out a pen and note pad. Jesse was shocked that it had been so easy for Maria to talk them into meeting up. He swore that woman could do anything.

“We are at the motel 8 in Cleveland Ohio. It’s on 6th and Shadeland.” Isabel said, looking at the address on the motel stationary. “We are going to be here for anouther week and a half. Then we are leaving. The dictators having given us the info on our next stop.” Isabel said.

“Oh. Well that’s perfect. How about we fly out there tomorrow. What room are you in.” Maria asked.

“Number 3.” Isabel said. “God, I miss you guys. I can’t wait to see you. You know Lix and Max are going to have a heart attack though, right?” Isabel said with a chuckle. Frankly, she didn’t giv a shit what Max and Liz thought. They never cared what she thought, so why should she worry about them.

“Fuck them,” Maria said more bitterly than she had planned.

“Exactly.” Isabel said laughing. “So, you want to talk to Kyle and Michael?”

“No, we can talk to them tomorrow. I’ve got to go pack. You know how hard it is to pack a man,” Maria said, knowing that Isabel had delt with packing Jesse and it wasn’t pretty.

“I think Jesse is just defective, cause Michael and kyle aren’t as bad as him.” Isbael said with a smile.

“Ha Ha. You’re right. Ok, well. We will see you tomorrow evening. I love you. Tell Michael and Kyle I love them too. Jesse sends his love as well.” Maria said before hanging up.

Then she turned to Jesse. “Cleveland. I’ll mapquest the hotel.” She said very proud of herself. Jesse just grinned at her and went upstairs to unpack and then pack again.

Chapter 26

“Geez, I’m so getting over flying,” Maria said as she and Jesse made their way to the rental car agency, again. For the 2nd time in one week.

Jesse threw his arm around her and kissed the top of her head. “Yeha, I know what you mean. But it will be nice to see everyone again.” He said.

“That is, if they are still speaking to us.” Maria siad. She still wasn’t sure how Isabel and Michael were going to take their news. Especially Michael.

“It will be fine. They are our friends. They want us to be happy and we make each other happy.” Jesse said. He knew that this visit was weighing on Maria’s conscience. She was tossing and turning all night. She nearly kicked him so hard, he thought he would never procreate.

“I hope youa re right” she said as they aprroached the counter. They got the car and sped off into the direction of the motel. This was it. Suprisingly, the motel was not far from the airport, and soon, Jesse and Maria were parked outside Michael, Isabel, and Kyle’s room. The beat up volkswagon micro bus was outside, though now it was orange instead of blue. They must have done that for safty they both thought.

Maria grabbed Jesse’s hand and knocked on the door. She ook a deep breath and immediately, Isabel opened the door and flung her arms around the smaller woman. “Oh My God! It’s so good to see you!” she squeeled. Isabel never squeeled it was kind of funny to see her in such a state of excitement.

“Hey,” Maria said. Jesse smiled and took his turn at hugging his former wife.

“You look great.” He said.

“Well, come on in. Kyle is getting some breakfast.” Isabel said moving out of the way for Maria and Jesse to enter. When they did, they saw Michael sitting on he edge of the bed flipping through channels. The minute they walked in, he pu down the remote and got up to great them.

“Hello, Maria,” he said awkwardly. He didn’t really know If he was aloud to hug her or not. This was uncharted territory for him.

Maria smiled, noteing his awkwardness and threw her arms aound him, jumping into his arms. “Hello Michael. I don’t bite,” she said.

Michael laughed at her. She had that sparkle that he loved about her back. He would be lying if he said he didn’t know that was due to Jesse. And odly enough, it didn’t hurt as much as he thought. She was happy, and that was all that mattered to him. Sure, he wished her was the one that could maker her happy, but he wasn’t, and he could live with that.

When Maria detached herself from Michael, he stuck his hand out and shook Jesse’s, silently thanking him for all he had done from Maria. “It’s nice to see you guys.” He said.

“So where is Gidget and Moondoggie?” Maria asked, causing the room to burst into laughter.

“They are in their room. I don’t even want to think about what they are doing. I mena they are the two most asexual people ever created, and they go at it like they are dogs in heat!” Isabel said with a dramatic sigh.

“Ok, that was way more information that I needed!” Maria said with a laugh. “Did I tell you about the letter they sent me?” Maria asked, not remembering.

“No, oh god, what did it say?” Isabel said, fearing she already knew.

“That I was selfish, and I should have stayed in Boston. And if anything happened to you guys, it was my fault. And of course that I was using Jesse for his money,” Maria said, more bitterly than hse had intended. Jesse wrapped his arms tighter around her and pulled her down on the bed next to him.

Isabel plopped down next to Michael. “I could smack the shit out of the two of them. It’s like they have been body snatched,” she said with a laugh. “Cuase you, Maria, are about the least selfish person I’ve ever known. Just think. You didn’t have to keep our secret, but you did. You are the best person I’ve ever known, and Max and Lix should know that above anyone. You were so loyal to them. Well, they can kiss my ass.”Isabel said with a huff.

Michael was steaming as well. He was glad he didn’t know about the letters before, or Max and Liz might not have lived to see anouther day. “Don’t worry about them, Maria. They will either come around, which is doubtful, or realize that Karma is a Bitch!” Michael said.

“You guys are awesome. Jesse said the same thing,” Maria siad looking at her fiance. “I’m pretty much over it. I just wish they would get their heads out of their asses!” Maria siad.

Just then, Kyle walked through the door whistling. “Maria!” she greeted, setting the food down and picking her up in is arms. He kissed her on the cheek. “Wow, you look amazing.” He said setting her down and taking her in.

“I could say the same for you! I say, you all look wonderful. I mean, Isabel is practically glowing, and you look great. And Michael, you look so good.” Maria siad.

Jesse got up and hugged Kyle. “It’s nice to see you again, Man.” He said.

“So, what is this news?” Isabel asked, not able to hold it in any longer.

Maria laughed at her friends impatience. “Well,” she started, sitting next to Jesse and taking his hand. “First, I want to say that I love you all.”

“Oh, God. This is bad isn’t it.” Isabel siad grabbing a hold of Kyle.

“No. No, It’s not bad.” Jesse assured her.

Maria nodded and continued, “We have something to tell you. It’s actually really great news. Jesse and I…We…We are getting married.” She said waiting for a reaction. But there was nothing, so she continued. “We are in love, as oyu know. And we are going to get married. We wanted to tell you all in person, because you are our best friends. You are all we have, really, and we didn’t want to o this over the phone besides the fact that we missed the hell out of you.” Maria said as tears sprang up in her eyes.

She finally looked into the faces of the three people that ment everything to her outside of Jesse. Isabel and Kyle were smiling, tears in their own eyes. As she looked at Michael she said confusion melt into acceptance, and then happiness. Maria smiled inreturn as Jesse squeezed her hand. “So, you guys, are…are ok with this?” she asked, praying to god they were.

“Ok? I’m thrilled!” Isabel said pulling Maira into her. “We have a wedding to plan.” Maria was flabbergasted. She just smiled.

Then she looked at Michael. “And you, what do you think Michael?” she said a little nervously.

Michael got up and kneeled in front of Maria, taking her hands in his. “I’m not going to lie, Maria. It hurts knowin that I can’t make you happy. But I know that Jesse makes you happy,” he said smiling at Jesse and then turning his attention back to Maria. “I that is all that matters to me. I’m so happy for you, Maria. I’m happy that you are moving on with your life. Happy that you are going to have a husband that can stand by you. One that can give you children and a safe home and all the things you deserve. I love you Maria. You are my best friend. All I want is your happiness.” He said honestly.

Maria smiled, and wipped the tears from her eyes. “Thank you.” She said, “That means so much to me. To us.” She said motioning at Jesse.

“You are a good man,” Jesse said embracing the man that was once his fiance’s love. Michael smiled and hugged him tightly.

“Take care of her,” Michael whispered.

“Always.” Jesse said.

The two men broke apart and Michael sat back down next to Isabel and Kyle and Jesse tok his place next to Maria. “So, we have some news too.” Isabel said with a twinkle in her eyes. “Kyle and I are having a baby,” she said. She wasn’t’ worried anymore. She knew that Maria and Jesse would be cool with it.

“Oh My God! I’m going to be an Auntie!” Maria screamed pulling Isabel into her arms. “I’m so excited!”

“Congratulations!” Jesse said to Kyle, because Maria and Isabel were lost in their own baby induced world at that point.

“Thanks man. I hate to admit it, but I’m kinda scared.” Kyle said seriously.

“You are a great man. You have a great father and you are going to BE a great father.” Jesse said frimly. “And even if not, Isabel will whip you into one!” Jesse said with a laugh.

“It’s going to be hard you know. To do this on the road.” Isabel said hearing their conversation. She had been concerned about that, but the excitement of being pregnate had overtaken her.

Maria, Jesse and Michael didn’t know what to say. They agreed that it would be hard, but this was Kyle and Isabel’s decision. “I know it will baby,” Kyle said. “But we will figure it out. We don’t have to decided what we are going to do today.” He said.

Isabel smiled and kissed him, “Your right,” she said.

The five friends continued to talk about the baby and the wedding and caught up on the things that were going on their lives, when Max and Liz walked in, without so much as knocking.

“What are they doing here?” Liz asked as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Chapter 27

“Nice to see you too, Liz.” Maria said with a roll of the eyes. Maxs eyes drated around the room as he closed the hotel room door behind him and locked it.

“You know what I meant.” Liz huffed. “What are you guys doing here. It is dangerous. The FBI could have followed you.” She said.

“But they didn’t. And besides, I wanted to see my friends. I had big news, we had big news,” Maria sais indicating herself and Jesse, “and we wanted to share it with the people at matter in our lives. You know, friends. Or have you forgotten what it is like to have friends.” Maria said, coving the smirk she kenw was rising up in herself.

“We just want to look after you and save ourselves,” Max rationalized.

“Well, we are doing just fine. That is, we were until you came barging in here,” Isabel said. “Ever head of knocking. If one of us had walked in on the two of you, you would have had a heart attack.” She said flinging her now long hair back for effect.

“So, what is your news?” Liz said, trying to change the subject. She knew that Isabel had them there, and she didn’t feel the desire to explain their actions.

“Well, if you must know. Jesse and I are getting married.” Maria said with a smile, as she looped her arm in Jesse’s.

“What? And you came all the way here to tell us that?” Liz asked incredulously.

Maria looked like she had been slapped. As if her news was not worthy of a plane trip to her best friends. “Yeah. I did. And actuallu, I didn’t come to tell the two of you because I was pretty positive that you woudnt care. And look, I’m right. But I will not give up my real friends because you are as paraniod as two pot heads at a police station.” Maria said.

Michael, Kyle, Isabel, and Jesse did their best to supress their laughter at Maria’s rant, but it was near impossible. “Well, thank god your weren’t followed.” Max said sitting on the bed.

“Make yourself at home Maxwell.” Michael said sarcastically.

“Look, why are you guys acting like this?” Max asked. What did we do to you?”

“Well, I don’t know, Max. It could be the fact that it is your fault we are even on the run, and you act like some king on your thrown, with Liz as your Queen. You treat us like children. We are all adults and we all have feelings. And we hate being around the two of you on your high horse.” Isabel said. She had wanted to say that to him for so long, but usually she just decided it wasn’t worth it, but having Maria and Jesse there helped. Also, she was thinking about how things were going to be when they found out the baby came.

Max and Liz didn’t say anything. What could they say? “But it doesn’t matter,” Isabel went on, “because Kyle and I have some news too.”

“Oh, are you two getting married too?” Liz said with disgust. Like she could talk. She married her one and only serious boyfriend at 18 years old.

“No, actually, we are having a baby.” Kyle said smuggly, loving the reaction he got from Max and Liz.

“Pregnate. How could to be so irrisponsible. We don’t even know what can happen when a hybrid mates with a human.” Max said incredulously.

“First of all, this in not biology class. We didn’t MATE. We made love and created a baby that we both love very much. Secondly, You and Liz go at it like there is no tomorrow. God, you two make me want to SCREAM!” Isabel said, getting angier by the second

“Come on, baby.” Kyle said pulling her down next to him on the bed. “All of this stress isn’t good for the baby.” He said kissing her forhead. Liz and Max looked at the two of them disgusted.

“But you two aren’t married. There is a difference.” Liz said, as if she was the al powerful, all knowing Oz.

“Oh shut the fuck up. You, my dear, are the last known virgin till marriage. So stop acting like hopping in the sack before you have a ring is so taboo. This is 2003 not 1950.” Maria said waving her off with her hand.

“And you would know wouldn’t you. How many men HAVE you slept with?” Liz countered, a smug grin on her face.

Maria stood up and lunged at Liz, but Michael, Kyle and Jess pulled her back. “ You are the biggest bitch in the world. And to think I actually cared about you.” Maria screamed as the men held her back.

“hey, back off.” Max said wrapping his arms around his wife.

The guys finally got Maria under control, but they could still see that she was steaming. Jesse whispered soothing words in her ear. “I’m just mentioning that maybe I shouldn’t be getting my sex advice from a girl who sleeps around.” Liz said.

Maria thought she was going to smack the shit out of her, but Jesse grabbed her hand and shook his head. “Liz, you know that I’ve only been with two men.” Maria said quietly.

Liz just rolled her eyes. Suddenly Isabel spoke up. “You know, Kyle. I was thinking. How would you like to raise our baby in a home. Not on the run all the time.” She asked.

“That would be amazing. You know I don’t want to stay here.” He said hopfully.



“Then lets not. Let’s leave. I mean we could move near Jesse and Maria,” she said her eyes shinning as she looked and Maria and Jesse for affermation. They smiled and nodded back at her.

“What. No. You cant leave. What happens if the FBI come back?” Max said.

“Max, I don’t care. First, we havn’t run into any FBI since the 2nd week we were on the road, and secondly. I don’t want to raise my child like this. I don’t want them to hate you the way I hate you, and the only way to do that is to move away from you two. To a stable home.” Isabel said. Then she looked to Michael. “You can do what you want, Michael, but I’d love it if you came with us.”

Michael smiled and looked at Maria, then Isabel and finally Max and Liz. “No, I need to get out of here too. Lets do it.” He said. Maria skipped over to him and threw her arms around him.

Isabel followed in line and then Kyle and Jesse. Max and Liz just looked on in astonishment. But what could they do? Max was King. But he didn’t seem to have any followers. That is except his power hungry wife.

Chapter 28

“So, yu guys can stay with us until you find something more permenant.” Jesse offered after Max and Liz left. They had tried to talk Isabel, Kyle, and Michael out of leaving, but it was obvious that they weren’ t going to change their minds, so in a huff, they left.

“You don’t have to do that,” Michael said. Isabel and Kyle nodded behind him.

“No, it would be great. You guys can stay until you find a job and get an apartment or house. It’s a big house anyway. And I’m usually there alone in the day. It will be nice to have people there.” Maria said with a smile.

“Fine, but we will pay you back when we get settled.” Kyle said.

“No, you won’t. You guys are practically family. Common, it’s not like I do anything with the money I make. Have you forgotten. I’m boring.” Jesse said with a grin.

Maria snuggled into him. “You aren’t boring. We are just, home-bodys. There is nothing wrong with that.” She said, reaching up to kiss, him but then she changed her mind. Michael was in the room and she didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.

“Maria, you don’t have to hold back in front of me.” Michael said, noticing her actions. “I’m fine. And if we are going to live together, you can’t just avoid touching your fiance until I get an apartment. I know you two are intimate. You already said you were and I can tell anyway. It’s fine.” He didn’t want her to be uncomfortable around him. Someday, maybe not soon, he would move on as well, and Maria was still his best friend.

Maria smiled as Michael, “Well, we better get some plane tickets together, don’t you think?”

“I can’t belive we are really doing this.” Isabel said with a smile, looking at Kyle. “We are really going to get to be on our own.”

“I know baby. It’s going to be great.”

“Wow. This place is huge!” Isabel said as she stepped out of the Boston Airport. She had never actaully lived in a big city. The gang had driven through big cities bbut they never really stayed.

“You get used to it,” Maria said getting behind the wheel of the Jeep she and Jesse had taken to the airport. It was a tight squeeze, but they all got into the car and sped off down the road to Jesse and Maria’s house.

When they finally pulled up, Kyle said, “Doin’ alright for yourself, Ramirez.” Jesse chuckled and nodded.

“So why don’t I give you guys a tour of the house,” Maria said as Jesse carried in the bags.

“This is the foyer, and in here is the living room. As you see there is a big screen TV. In this alcove is the breakfast nook. Then through the door is the kitchen.” She explained as she walked into each of the rooms she was discribing. “The kitchen’s kinda empty, because as all of you know Jesse and I cannot cook. Then there is the dinning room. And back on the other side of the Dinning room is the Family room with anouther TV and all the books you could ever want to read.”

Maria walked back to the stairwell in the foyer and began walking up the stairs, Michael, Isabel, and Kyle In toe. “Upstairs, we have a guest bathroom, with a jecuzzi tub and shower. Then there is one bedroom. It’s the smallest. Down the hall to the right is anouther bedroom. A little bigger. And then at the end of the hall is Jesse and my bedroom with our own bathroom.”

The three friends looked around in awe. The house was huge and beautiful. “Wow, thank you so much for letting us stay here.” Isabel said.

“Yeah, you really don’t have to.” Michael said.

“It’s nothing. I swear.” Jesse said coming up behind them and wrapping his arms around Maria. “We love having you here. We have missed you all so much.”

“Ok, well now that the tour is over, what do you say we get a little unpacked and relax. Put off looking for jobs until Monday.” Maria said with a grin.

“Sounds great,” Jesse said. “Let me just call work and let them know I’m here for work on Monday.” Jesse said kissing Maria’s cheek.

The rest of the weekend the gang spent cathcing up and geoing out to eat. They had a great time. Isabel, Kyle, and Michael couldn’t remember the last time they laughed so much. They didn’t know what they were going to do for jobs, but on Sunday night as they went to bed, they did know that everything was going to be ok.

Chapter 29

Maria and isabel stood in Isabel and Kyle's new apartment. The guys were bringing up the boxes while the girls unpacked. Things had been going really well for the group.

Isabel, Kyle and Michael had been in Boston for a month, and Michael had already gotten his own apartment. He was working contruction for a pretty prestigious contractor. He moved out 2 weeks after being in Boston. He loved being with Maria, and even Jesse, but it was hard to watch them together.

Kyle got a job as a mechanic, much like what he did in Roswell, but he like the garage he was working for much better in Boston. Isabel was Waitressing, and hated it, but it was putting food on the table, and alowed her and Kyle to move into this new house.

"So, your own house." Maria said with a grin.

"I know, I am so excited." isabel said, "Sorry, it took us so long to move out." Isabel said tearing open anouther box.

Maria shook her head, "No, i'm going to miss you guys. It is lonley in the hosue when Jesse is at work. I mean next year i'll be in school so it will be better." Maria siad.

"Trust me, you can't get rid of us that easily. When i'm on maternity leave i'm going to be at your house every day. Besides, Michael will be over all the time. He doesn't like you being alone either." Isabel said.

"Yeah, i guess you are right." Maria said unloading a box.

When they were all done unloading and un packing, Maria, Jesse, Isabel, Kyle, and Michael all sat down on the couchs. "God, i'm beat." Jesse said flinging his arm over Maria's sholder.

"Yeah, me too." Kyle said.

"We probably out to get home," Maria said standing up.

"Yeah, I think i'm gonna head out, too. Meet some of the guys." Michael said. Maria and Isabel looked at him smiling. "What?" he asked, knowing what was comming next.

Maria smiled and jumped into his arms. "You are going out. Really. With people?" she said.

Michael rolled his eyes, "Yes, Maria. I'm going out."

Maria smiled and left with Jesse, Michael not far behind them. "I'm so glad Michael is going out. I want him to meet someone." Maria said, and Michael overheard. He wasn't so sure. But he was going to try.

Later that night, michael walked into the Cozy, a bar in downtown Boston. He saw Matt and Charlie sitting at the bar. They waved him over and he walked across the room to meet them.

"Hey Mike." Charlie said.

"Hey, guys. What's going on?"

"Nothing, just hanging out. The Red Wings game is on." Matt said pointing that the TV on the wall. A man after Michael's own heart. He smiled and watched the game, with was already halfway through the third period.

"WOOOHOOO!" Michael said as Jason Williams scored the tiebreaking goal at the end of the game.

"Yeah. i say we have a celebratory shot!" Carlie said.

"Yeah, dont drink, but have at it." Michael said sipping his coke.

Just then the bartender stopped in front of the three men. She was beautiful. She had dark red hair, almost burgandy, and absloutly flawless features. "Can i get you guys anything?" she asked.

Michael was drawn to her for some reason. he just stared at the beautiful woman in front of him. "I'm actually fine, but i think my friends would like a shot of somthing." Michael answered finding his words.

"Crown Royal, please." Charlie said.

"Sure," The woman said with a smile and then she went to work making thier drinks.

After anouther hour, Charlie and Matt were on thier wat to drunk and they turned to Michael, "I think we are going to cut out." he said getting up. "We will see you at work on Wednesday."

"Ok, take it easy." Michael said. He reached behind him for his own jacket, figuring it was time for him to leave as well. The bar was empty, and the bartender looked like she was getting ready to close.

The bartender walked back over to Michael. "Can i gat you anything else?" she asked sweetly.

"No, I think i'm gonna go." Michael said standing up.

"Well," the woman started, "if you are going to go, i can close. You think you could, uhhh, walk me to my car? I mean, i...You dont have to. I just get a little nervous around here at night...i mean i can handle it. It isn't that i cant i just..." The woman stopped and laughed at herself. "I'm rambling i do that."

Michael grinned at her. She reminded him of a certain someone from his past. But this woman was different. he could feel it. The woman shook her head and stuck out her hand. "I'm Serina. Nice to meet you." she said.

"I'm Michael," Michael said shaking her hand. "Michael Guerin. And i would love to walk you to your car." he said smiling with a genuine smile.

"Let me grab my coat."

The walk was short, but Michael could understand why she idn't want to walk alone. A beautiful and small girl like her could get introuble in this neighborhood. They walked in relative silence. ONly talking about the weather and trivial matters. When they got to the car, Serina turned to Michael. "Thanks, you know for walking me out."

"It's really no problem." Michael said.

"So...you wanna hang out sometime?" Serina asked finally getting the courage to ask him what she wanted to ask him since she laid eyes on him.

"Ummm,"

"Oh, god you have a girlfriend don't you. I'm sorry." Serina said opening h er door.

Michael grinned and caught the door in his hand. "No, no girlfirend. i'd really like to hang out. What about tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow would be great." Serina answered.

"Well, why don we meet at the bar at 7:30." Michael said.

"That sounds great." Serina said smiling her biggest smile.

"Goodnight, Serina."

"Night michael."

Michael walked back to the street to call a cab. He was filled with hope. Maybe he could move on. He would never be over Maria, but tonight he realized he jsut might be able to move on.
