"A tribal symbol? That's cool," I say, looking at the tatoo with mild interest. "You know, it can't be too safe to do it yourself though," I add, looking over at Sabrina again.
“Look at that, little miss shy is actually laughing in public.” James said, looking over at Sabrina.
"Hey, dude, shut up," I say, reaching over and punching him on the arm. "She wouldn't be in a band if she was shy now would she," I say, recovering. I know he knows I like her, but I don't want to be over obvious about it. "And what's this about Lily?" I ask, smirking at him.
Mallory brings my coke over, so I smile graciously at her and wait until she leaves before continuing. "Fine, so we agree to go out tonight; what about tomorrow?" I ask, sliding further into the seat as I add half a bottle of tabasco sauce to my coke before gulping it down.
"What's up guys?" All of the sudden I see a blurry shape appear next to James through my glass. Coughing as I try to breath with coke in my mouth, I straighten up and swallow the soda.
"Oh, hi Laura," I say, smiling at the girl who just joined us at our table.

I'm standing outside fumbling for the key when one of my books falls on my foot. "Ouch, damn chem book," I mutter under my breath as I finally unlock the door to the campus apartment.
I walk in, limping because of my foot, and throw my stuff on desk before collapsing on my bed. It's been a long day, and all I want to do now is sleep. Or, go do something exciting. I decide on exciting, so I get up and hobble over to the calendar tacked up on Andrew's part of the room. "So, what's happening at NYU tonight?" I mumble to myself, running my finger down the various list of campus events.
I look at the clock; 6:30. Andrew should be back soon, and then we can decide if we want to stay on campus, go to a bar, or go clubbing somewhere. In the meantime, I turn the radio loudly and plop back onto my bed with my latest book.

It was a slow day at The Extraterrestrial HQ- we'd been open since, what, eight and so far we'd had about eight customers, only two of whom bought anything at all. But that was business- it was to be expected, and I had already considered the matter thoroughly before actually opening my alien-themed souvenir shop.
Besides, tourist season had yet to begin, so there was no need to fuss. In the mean time, I was fine with messing around with craft glue and tin foil. My latest project was making those little bobbing-head knickknacks people liked to put in their cars.
"Jess, give me a hand with this antenna, will you?" I said to Jessica Ridley, the hardworking young lady who helped out around The HQ. "I can't seem to get it to stick."
"Sure thing," she replied in her usual bubbly style.
Whilst she worked on the stubborn ball of foil, I stood up and went over to the window. Looking out, I saw my son, James, enter The Crashdown Cafe, which was opposite The HQ but further down the street. I couldn't help but smile to myself, seeing how grown up he was. Tall and handsome, much like my husband, Kyle.
But they were nothing alike, and their relationship had become worse of late. It wasn't easy for them to see eye-to-eye, especially when one was a sheriff and the other was an adventurous teenager. I had to admit that Kyle was a bit too harsh on the kids, especially when it came to James. Actually, much of our son's attitude came from me. Still, there was a limit to things and I was sure that Kyle was the way he was because he loved his children.
"All done, Eileen," Jessica quipped, shocking me out of my thoughts. She was holding up the alien head, and she'd even stuck on the antenna without my asking her to. "How's this?"
I thanked her with a smile. "This is perfect."
The bell hanging above the door rang. A customer had just walked in and was looking at the bumper stickers.
"Go on, you," I told Jessica, pushing her towards the kid who couldn't have been over eighteen years of age.
I returned to the counter and continued making the little aliens thingamabobs, at the same time wondering about what to do over the weekend.

"Fine, honey, thanks for asking. Go get your uniform on and then we'll talk!" she says pointing me towards the back room.
"Okay" I say with a smile. I quickly go into the back room. I open my locker to take out my neatly folded uniform. I touch the picture stuck to the inside of my locker. I love that picture. The one where Laura and I are hanging out at beach with our families. I know, its also a great picture because Oliver's in it...but that's besides the point.
I get changed and put my clothes back inside my locker. I then add the final piece to the outfit...those darn antennae. God they're weird. I quickly stick them on and proceed to the front again.
I quickly go behind the counter and start to serve some of the customers.
"What's up guys?" I hear my best friend say. I look up and smile at Laura...I really need to talk to her about...
Oliver. He's here too. My heart starts to thud...oh great. I bet Im blushing now. I quickly turn towards my mother. "Anything i can do mom?" I ask trying to keep my back to the guy of my dreams.

Sociology ended pretty late that day since Professor Dalton had went on a little longer than usual. By the time I found my way back to the apartment I shared with my friend, Brad Guerin, it was almost seven o'clock. I really couldn't wait to take a shower.
Since coming to NYU, life had changed considerably. Of course, Brad and I had to do all the laundry and such on our own, but that wasn't too hard. Actually, I kind of liked having a bit of freedom- sure, I wasn't really one to break the rules, but at least there were fewer of those to follow now.
One thing I'd expected was to be able to enjoy some peace and quiet here, since it wasn't too easy to get that back home with my two little sisters, Amy and Lily- especially Lily. But that sure never change- life on campus was just as crazy with Brad around.
Even from the other side of the door, I could feel the floor vibrating beneath my feet; Brad was blasting the radio again. I unlocked the door and went in to find him on his bed with a book spread open in front of him. I could never understand how the guy could read with all the noise.
"Hey man," I shouted over the music as I set my stuff down and dumped my jacket over a chair.
I went to the small fridge and grabbed a soda. I decided to rest a while before taking that shower. "Good book?" I asked casually as I raised the can to my lips.

"Anything i can do mom?"
"Yes," I replied, studying her. "You can tell me why you're blushing. Honey, do you still have a thing for Tess's son? I really don't think he's right for you..." I drifted off, realizing I was letting my subtle dislike for Tess affect how I thought about her children.
I silently chastised myself for even disliking her. Sure, she'd tried to steal Max from me when she came here, but it was only because Nasedo had told her too. And it wasn't as if she hadn't accepted Max and me and moved on; she was married to someone else and very happy.
Pulling myself back to the present, I looked at Amy's saddened face. "You know what, honey? If you like him, I'm sure he's a great guy." I said. "Have you made a move?" I asked her.

TESS
I flip through the mail in boredom, praying that in one of these envelops there is a nice job offer awaiting. I need job, I need a job desperately so that I can have a life outside of this house and away from my family. Now don’t misunderstand me, my family is the most important in the world to me and nothing is ever going to change that. I love my husband and two children more then life itself but they can all look over their selves now, Oliver and Laura are practically adults now, they don’t need me like they use to.
And there is a selfish part of me that wants more out of life then being a housewife. I want a reason to get out of bed in the morning other then having to clean the house, do the laundry and cook dinner. I want a purpose. I need a purpose otherwise I’m going to go insane.
Reaching for the phone, I hit speed dial and wait for Marcus to answer his phone. I really need to talk to him, to hear his soothing voice and know that everything is going to be okay. I’ve had the oddest feel all day that something is about to happen.
Keys rattle in the door and I click off the phone. Glancing out of the window, I see that Marcus’s Ford Explorer is parked in the driveway next to my Mercedes Benz. I rush to the door, anxious to see him and wrap my arms around him.
“What are you doing home so early?” I ask before he can say anything.

My first instinct was to blush at Tyler's greeting, but I had long since learned how to control my features so that my feelings for him were well hidden. It used to be so blatantly obvious that I liked Tyler, but after all my studying of him I realized my feelings weren't returned, and I therefore learned how to control them. Now the only person who could pick up on them was Oliver, a fact that often left me incredibly annoyed.
"Hey Tyler," I said casually, shooting him a glance before turning and nodding at James.
The table went quiet for a moment and I noticed Tyler throw a tiny peek over his shoulder. My annoyance rose; I knew exactly who he was gawking at without even having to look.
"You guys going to the party tonight?" I asked, leaning over and grabbing one of James's fries. Yes, I liked to steal people's food. So what?

"Yes, you can tell me why you're blushing.
Wonderful...I avoid my friends seeing me blush....by instead getting my mother on my case.
Honey, do you still have a thing for Tess's son?
Whoa...she knows? Oh that's just great! Great! So what the entire world knows now except him! Brilliant!
I really don't think he's right for you..."
Great. She thinks so too huh? I can feel my face fell. Just brilliant. Now to my mom, that means she thinks hes not good enough for me....but to rest of the world....the fact is...Im not good enough for him. I'm not popular enough. I'm not upbeat enough....in other words....Im not a Lily.
You know what, honey? If you like him, I'm sure he's a great guy. Have you made a move?"
What? I jerk my eyes up to look into hers.
"Mom!" I say idignantly. "No I haven't because...well for one I don't like him..." I say lying through my teeth and we both know it. "And secondly I'm not going to waste my breathe and be humiliated. And since you don't want help, I'm taking a break and then joing Laura. Ok?" I say walking towards the bathroom without letting her answer.
I put the toilet seat down and sit down. I take some slow deep breathes. 'Right....now I'm going to go out there, not humilate myself and talk to my best friend' I tell myself, giving a little pep talk. I splash some cole water on my face. I take one last deep breathe before walking out of the bathroom.
I smile as I catch Laura's eye and walk over to her where she's sitting with James and Tyler. How am I not surprised she's sitting with Tyler!
"Hey guys! Mind if I join you?" I ask sitting next to Laura. "How is everyone?" I ask.

I was sitting back, finishing my cold fries and still contemplating the conversation with my sister when Amy caught my eye. She walked out wearing that short little uniform and stopped to talk to her mother, Mrs. Evans. She glanced my way very quickly and I suddenly found myself looking into her deep brown eyes. The next second she had turned away, a faint blush creepng up her cheeks.
I pondered the blush, but figured it was something Mrs. Evans had said to her, because a second later she stormed into the back room. I waited a few minutes for her to reappear, slightly worried. Was she ok?
Wait a minute, I scolded myself, why are you thinking about her? No ties, nothing to hold you down, remember?
Still the prospect wasn't so bleak when I thought of it being Amy I was tied to. Shaking my head to clear these thoughts, I watched her reappear and head toward the table Laura left for. Deciding that it might not be a bad idea to join them, I abandoned my table and headed to theirs. It was a tight fit, Laura and James on one side and Amy and Tyler on the other, so I pulled up a chair and swung it around, sitting on it backwards.
"Did I miss anything?" I asked casually, looking at each of them.
