Part 23
It was the next morning before Christina recovered enough of her energy to make the phone call.
She new that Niko had felt the power, she was sure every alien on Earth could have felt it.
Imagine a true heir to the throne combined with the last four square of Antar. She was lucky Khivar wasn’t knocking on her front door.
She ordered the ticket to Albuquerque; from there she would catch a connecting flight to Roswell. She’d have to rent a car and it would probably take her a day or two to find the new location of the Granolith, but she had to connect with it so they would be able to access it’s powers when Khivar got here.
She was packing her bag when Serena called her.
“I’m glad Max is okay. You and Spencer know what you have to do now? I know you don’t want to Rena, but you have to train them for this War. They are the only army we have. You guys also have to head out of Nebraska; maybe go back west to Oregon…
Why?
Because I felt the damn shock wave from here Serena! No doubt Niko and his minions are tracking the disturbance.
Just get the hell out of there before they find you and head that way to kill you all. Can I talk to Max?...
Serena you ask so many freaking questions.
Because I have to do something and as King, Max has to be made aware of what it is.
Yes, I know I’ve played the part of leader for so long, but that’s only because I knew what was going on. I had the most information and knew what needed to be done. But now Max knows just as much as I do so he can take up his crown because I don’t want to make all the calls anymore.
Just put Max on the phone! Thanks Rena, be careful.”
“Hi Maxwell, This is Christina. If you ever pull a stunt like that again you won’t have to worry about what Khivar is going to do to you. I don't care if you are the damn King hiding you being sick from everyone was a bad move.”
Even just being on the phone with Max, Christina was able to fell the pull of her energy reaching out to join the Kings to reestablish the power of the Royal Four. She briefly wondered if it would work when they where this far from each other.
“Anyways Max, the point of the call is that I have to head to Roswell…”
She was caught off immediately as Max told her that was the last thing she should do. She tried not to growl at him.
“Max, listen to me. You’re the King, but for as long as this has been going on I’ve been in charge. I’m gladly handing over the reins of power to you, but I’m not asking your permission on this.
It’s something that has to be done and I’m merely telling you that I’m going to Roswell in order to do it. I won’t put any of your families in danger, but if I don’t go there now we’ll all be in danger. As in Earth not just the eleven of us.”
Even though she couldn’t see him Max nodded his head in reluctance acceptance.
Then a thought occurred to him and he had to ask. Christina winced as she heard what she hoped would slip Max’s mind,
“What exactly do you need to do in Roswell Christina?”
“Find the Granolith and connect to it so we have its energy available to us when Khivar gets here.”
She held her breath waiting for the Kings explosion of anger or at the very least a million questions from curiosity. She was startled at his answer,
“Okay, be safe out in the desert. Call us every now and then to check in.”
And with that he hung up. Christina pulled the phone away from her ear and stared at it for a full minute before she put it back down.

Part 24
As usual the second in command wasn’t as accepting as Max.
Max wondered how he was going to deal with both Michael and Christina once they were all reunited. Max shared with the others what he and Christina discussed on the phone and Michael exploded,
“She’s going where!!! To find what??? Is she insane?? By herself!! How could you allow this?? Where is it? How does she know?? You’re letting my little sister go by herself? Are you insane??!!”
Michael broke off suddenly when he heard the others.
Alex and Kyle where chuckling softly trying to not be noticed by the angry ex war general.
Isabel’s head was thrown back as she howled with laughter not caring if she made Michael more upset.
Ava was smiling as was Liz who was also rubbing her stomach and then he looked at his pixie who was letting off soft giggles which erupted to full out hysterical laughter like Isabel once she saw him scowling at her.
“What?”
Michael demanded looking to Max for yet another answer.
“Your rambling more than Maria manages to pull off in the mist of a crisis. And this is hardly a crisis. Serena and Spencer we have to move before Nicholas finds us right?”
They both nodded and Max rushed in before Michael could interrupt him again.
“Okay here’s the plan. We’re going to head back west to Oregon,” pausing only briefly to make sure everyone was all right with Oregon he continued,
“Serena, Ava, and Isabel I want you to go first taking the most direct route there. Find us another house to rent big enough for all of us. Then Serena I need you to train Isabel and Ava.
As half the unit, Isabel and Ava I know it’s risky, but you’re going to connect. Stop at some hotel half way to Oregon and get it done. Serena you block their energy from sending out any signs as they connect okay?”
Serena glanced hesitantly to Spencer who shrugged his shoulders and gave a slight nod. Serena followed her brother’s lead nodding at Max.
“What about the rest of us?” Max held a finger towards Alex before answering, “Izzie and Ava while in Oregon I need you to focus on your mental powers. I have a feeling they will be very important in the final battle. As for the rest of us, Spencer your going to take Alex, Kyle, Liz and Maria on a more round about trip to Oregon.
You’ll train Alex and Kyle so they can do battle in a moving vehicle. Work on Alex’s shield especially because from this point on Alex, you are Liz and my child’s protector. Is that okay with you?”
“Max even if you hadn’t directly appointed me to Lizzie’s side to protect her and junior I would have done it anyway. But yes, and I’m honor that you trust me so effortlessly with your family.”
Max nodded and continued, “Liz you rest. Maria make sure she rests and don’t worry about anything because I won’t let anything happen to my family.”
“So what the hell will we be doing while they’re all traipsing their way to Oregon Maxwell?”
Max gave Michael a smirk of his own, “I thought we’d take the south route, stop home for a short detour, see if we find any ancient alien artifacts or relics that are super powerful and lusted after by all evil aliens on Earth.
Assuming that your sister is anything like you, make sure she stays out of trouble.
Make some plans for Khivar. What do you think?”
“Okay this is the part were we say ready, break! And then everyone wanders off to gather supplies before hitting the road.”
Kyle ducked as the girls threw stuff at him,
“What? It’s true!”
Serena shook her head at Kyle’s antics but figured he was right.
“Okay Maria why don’t you go pack for you and Liz. Isabel and Ava you guys can take the Jetta and get some food for the road. Spencer why don’t you and Michael start rearranging our stuff into the proper cars.”
“Kyle and Alex take care of the house, make sure there is nothing here that can be traced back to us. Do it the human way and then the alien way, zapping any trace evidences that we were here understand?”
They both nodded and gave her mock salutes.
“Ah Max could I talk to you privately for a minute?”
“Sure”
They waited as Maria and Liz headed upstairs, Kyle and Alex followed to start their assigned task and the other four to leave for food or to fix up the cars.
Max and Serena walked out into the back yard and Serena looked to the sky as the first stars started to rise and the sun started to go down behind her.
“Look Max I know you don’t really dig the whole I’m King thing and we both, Christina and I, have been calling shots for a long time because you weren’t around and when you finally got here we were just more qualified to make those calls. But the thing is we aren’t leaders.
Leadership was forced upon us by circumstances and our memories of you have allowed us to make the decisions up until now that have needed to be made for all of us.
Decisions Christina made in order to protect you guys and make sure we win this time. But now you’re here and you know just as much as we do. So you have to take on your role as King. A role you were born for in both lives. It’s something instinctual Max and if you don’t step up Christina will continue to do so, but that’s not how it’s suppose to be. Do you get that?”
Max sighed as he looked at Serena a sense of familiarity about the whole moment tugged at his mind but he shook it away to answer her.
“Yes, Serena, I’m done hiding behind the tree, it’s taken awhile, but I’m finally front and center ready to accept my role.”
Serena gave him a strange look when he mentioned hiding behind trees but she ignored it and continued on.
“Okay Max, You should know that once were all in Oregon, well everyone except you, Michael, and Christina, Spencer and I will have to go on a Mission.”
“What kind of mission?” Max managed to interrupt before she was finished. She again turned to the stars as she answered him.
“In Oregon there are a few camps of skins, nothing very large but enough of them scattered throughout that if they got together they could do some damage. Spence and I will take them out when we get there. It wont’ take very long and Niko will think we’ve fled back to Chicago afterwards, because usually that’s what we do after a mission so he won’t send skins there looking for us either.”
Max looked at her.
“You have to do this before Michael and I are there to help?”
She nodded and he sighed.
“Don’t worry Max we’ve done this loads of times we won’t get caught or in trouble.”
“Alright Serena but I need you to take Kyle and Ava with you. They should get some hands on practice and not just aiming at rocks all the time. Besides we need to learn how to fight together and look after each other.”
Serena swallowed knowing Spencer wouldn’t like the addition, that it would take them longer to get the job done, but also that Max was right and it was necessary.
“Okay Max, can I ask why Kyle and not Isabel?”
“Isabel has to be at home base in order to keep communication open between everyone. Her and Kyle have a strong connection and so do her and I. Plus she will be connected to Ava by then so they should spend some time apart. We’ll all be able to keep in touch without alerting the authorities or evil aliens.”
Serena smiled at her king, “See Max, you were born to do this.”
She clapped him on the back before turning and going into the house.
It was going to be a long night. Hopefully they we’re gone by dawn.

Part 25
Maria and Liz were in the back of the SUV. They were resting and trying to stay out of the way as Alex and Kyle followed Spencer’s instructions.
The road they were traveling on was completely isolated, nonetheless Spencer still watched for cars with his advanced alien vision as Alex would wrap his shield around the car. He was having problems getting it to stay in place for very long.
Meanwhile Kyle was aiming at rocks and plants that were on the roadside, no easy feat as they were traveling at 50mph.
They were currently driving north before they would turn west towards Oregon.
This would make their travel time twice as long as Serena, Ava, and Isabel not to mention the fact that they had to continue stopping for food and bathroom brakes for Maria and Liz.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
On a more direct route Serena was behind the wheel of Ava and Alex’s blue Jetta.
Her and Isabel where getting to know each other in the front while Ava was sleeping in the back trying to recharge her energy after so much power use the past day.
It was a little past lunchtime when they decided to stop at a hotel and do as Max asked.
Isabel turned in her seat as Serena pulled onto the off ramp,
“Ava, wake up Ava.”
Slowly, Ava rubbed her eyes clear and sat up,
“What’s up?”
“We are going to stop here. Do you have enough energy to connect with me?”
For a moment Ava looked around for Alex, it had been a long time since they were separated. She remembers that he is safe with Spence and then returned to Isabel’s question.
“Sure. Whenever you guys want too. Is it safe here though? I mean as safe as it can be under the circumstances?”
Isabel and Ava both turned to Serena since she was most experienced at this.
“It’s never going to be safe enough. But this will be a huge step in making sure we can be safe in the future.
The benefits outweigh the risk so it’s a chance we have to take. Besides times running out so we have to do it know so there is enough time for the others to connect too.”
“How exactly do we do this? With Ava and Max it happened by accident.”
“You’ll just have to focus on each other. Become aware of each other completely let your energies flow back and forth between you. Then the flashes will start and tada power sharing follows.”
Ava laughed as Isabel just shook her head in amusement.
Opening the door to the hotel room after Ava got them a key; Serena flipped on the lights and scanned the room.
Isabel and Ava followed her in and she shut the door. With a flick of her wrist the blinds were closed and the lights dimmed to a more befitting atmosphere.
“Well I’ll be over here by the door and just leave you both too it. I’ll be working on absorbing all the emotions and whatnot you send off so too much does escape and send off a disturbance alerting Khivar to what we’re up to.”
Serena returned to the door to also keep watch and she faded into the scenery as Isabel and Ava settled onto the bed.
As one they lifted their hands and then smiled as they took hold of one another's hands.
They looked into each other’s eyes, sparkling blue met chocolate brown as their breathing evened out.
Serena heard a small gasp from Isabel before she was hit with the waves of emotion.
They were strong. Individually they both had strong physical powers and mental ones.
Working together they would be a deadly team. Serena was glad she was on their side.
Ava marveled at how different this was from the connection that opened with Max earlier.
It wasn’t painful at all. It was like a gentle blending of their energies as flashes of their lives were shared between them.
She didn’t have to try to stop it from happening either so she lost herself in the sensation of the connection.
A piece of her was filled as the connection came to a completion and she felt her body hum with the excess of power.
“Wow”
Ava smiled and nodded at Isabel as her eyes slowly reopened.
“I know what you mean.”
“This is incredible. Its nothing like the connection I have with Max and Michael. It’s so much… more, is the only word I can think of.”
Serena came over and sat down with them.
“That’s because you don’t actually share a connection with Max and Michael, at least not from this lifetime. What you feel for them is left over from Antar...
Sorry to rush this but we have to hit the road. The sooner we get to Oregon the sooner we can wipe out the skins and get on with this.”
They nodded their heads and left the room as quickly as they had come.
Isabel went to the desk to return the key and pay. The man gave her a funny look but she didn’t have time to be concerned with his thoughts.
She gave him a small smile and joined Ava and Serena in the car heading out to the next part of this journey.

Part 26
Max and Michael had been driving for what seemed like weeks instead of just a day.
The landscape became more and more familiar and more welcoming the closer they got to home.
Conversation was sparse throughout the ride. Both men deep in thought with concerns for their loved ones and plans for battles.
It was only moments after they had driven past the Welcome to Roswell sign when Michael spoke up,
“Maxwell...”
“I know Michael I feel it to. Is it your sister?”
“No she’s not even here yet.”
At the raised, questioning eyebrow of Max, Michael merely shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t know how to explain it.
Something was wrong, very wrong with the town of Roswell.
It was not until they reached the main street with the Crashdown sign looming in the distance and the UFO Museum across the street did they realize how completely empty the town was.
It was early in the morning, but not so much so that the town should be abandoned.
It was a ghost town. Just like the time the skins came and made all the humans disappear.
This realization seemed to hit them at the same time.
Max turned to Michael who caught a glimpse of panic before Max asked,
“Where do we start?”
Michael only took a second to spare him a look that expressed everything.
Where else was there to start besides where it all began so many years ago?
“Right.”
Max pulled Christina’s car to the front of the Crashdown and parked it haphazardly before jumping out and rushing to the door.
Michael was two steps behind him and only faintly heard the familiar bell as they crossed the threshold of the door.
Max closed his eyes at the destruction.
He vaguely heard Michael swearing under his breath and moving past him.
The Parkers' faces swam in front of his closed eyelids and Max felt sick.
He followed the path Michael had made around the overturned tables and chairs.
Softly walking over the shattered glass covering the floor.
Alien memorabilia was smashed and thrown around the entire restaurant.
All of the lights were broken. The booths were torn. Was that a scorch mark on the wall?
The back door didn’t swing on its hinges, Michael pushed it open and it crashed onto the floor breaking the silence of the two.
Pots and pans were everywhere in the kitchen, food was littered throughout the ground.
In silent agreement they headed up the stairs to the Parker’s apartment. The state of the apartment was almost more shocking then the Café.
Everything was perfect. Not a thing had been touched. Had they not seen the café they would have thought the Parker’s were just on vacation.
“Max?”
“I have no idea Michael. Check around I’m going to garb some of Liz’s stuff.”
Michael nodded and watched Max head out to Liz’s room.
He listened to Max moving around Liz’s room pausing every now and then. His eyes were scanning the living room when he saw the blood.
“Shit. MAX! Get back here.”
With a bag in one hand Max looked to where Michael was staring. Blood, too much blood. And underneath the dried blood almost covered completely was another scorch mark.
“Energy blast. Has to be the skins, Max. I’d hate the think we have more enemies out there with the technology to wipe out the humans.”
After Max’s blank look and slow nod he continued.
“We should head over to the Valenti’s see if he left us any clues or something. Then we could check your house, Maria’s…”
It was as they passed back into the diner Max noticed the glint on the floor.
Right where he healed Liz, was the Royal Seal of Antar.
The same one stenciled on his brain.
Michael saw it too.
“That can’t be good. I hope Christina gets here soon so we can get out of here. I get the feeling there are still some skins hanging around, waiting to finish up the job.”
As they headed toward the car Max veered off towards the UFO Center, Michael had no choice but to follow albeit it unhappily.
“Maxwell we don’t have time for sightseeing.”
“I want to check Brody’s computer. See if it picked up the same disturbance as before. Maybe if it’s the same thing and its not too late, we can fix it.”
Michael doubted it but decided to humor him.
“Sure Max, lets just make it quick. I don’t want to run into any skins while where here for the…”
He trailed off when he saw the barrier down just like when Brody had held Max and the others hostage.
“The mechanism to open it is outside, around back.”
Max put his hand up and melted a hole through the wall.
“Or we could do it that way.”
Max stepped forward only to be pulled back an instant later by Michael.
“I go first.”
“Michael no.”
“Maxwell this is nonnegotiable. I go first or we don’t go at all. My job is to protect you. Can’t do that from behind you.”
“Fine.”
When they reached the bottom of the stairs they both heard it at the same time.
Immediately Max threw up his shield in front of Michael who growled as Max broke with the plan stepping in front of him.
They waited, scanning the center for any sign of an intruder.
They saw the figure a second before Max’s shield expanded, spanning the length of half the museum as it spread it became darker, almost solid looking.
But the single glance they got before the shield transformed was enough.
Michael called out.
“Sheriff?”
Max dropped his shield.
They found themselves staring into the eyes of a very worn out Jim Valenti.
With a small smile and brightening of his eyes Valent welcomed them.
“Hi boys. Glad too see you back in Roswell.”

“What the hell are you doing here though? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is?”
Max and Michael couldn’t help but bow their heads in shame.
“Where is everyone Sheriff?”
After a long sigh Valenti started,
“Fix the door first. Then we can talk in the office.”
Michael followed Valenti as Max walked back up the stairs and fixed the door.
After they were all seated comfortably Valenti began his tale.
“After you kids left I told all the parents everything. They deserved to know the truth and they should know why they were in danger. Because they were now. We were all in danger. It was a couple weeks later that Jeff received Liz’s journal in the mail and we all read it.
The FBI stayed in town for a while, feeding a crap story to the newspaper about you guys in a gang.
Obviously nobody believed them because most of the town had know you all too well.
It was probably 4 months later that they left for good.
Life went on for the most part. We dealt as best we could with the loss of our children.
Ahh… Amy and I tied the knot about a year ago now.”
Both Michael and Max noticed how the Sheriff got choked up and were immediately more concerned then before.
“The parents we all gathered weekly just to keep in touch and help each other through everything.
It was probably a year ago, I started to notice the visitors. Actually, Nancy pointed them out to us.
Brody too pointed out the fact that strange stuff was going on in the world. He was so sure he was going to be abducted at any moment. Even sent Sydney away to her mom’s.
Anyway, I had a confrontation with one of them. Definitely a skin, and I knew how to get rid of it but didn’t because I didn’t think it would be a good idea to bring that kind of suspicion on myself.
They started killing people.
Families stayed in their homes didn’t go out at night. It only helped for a little while eventually they broke into the homes to kill.
Six months ago I started to evacuate the town. Unofficially of course because I don’t have that kind of power and the government officials who do didn’t seem too concerned.
I figured the skins had infiltrated government like Whitaker, so as far as I was concerned Roswell was on its own.”
“What happen to the Crashdown Sheriff? Were any of our parents…”
Max couldn’t even complete the thought the guilt was too much.
Michael grimly watched as Valenti nodded his head.
“I found Mrs. Parker in her kitchen; she should have died in my arms but she didn’t. I don’t know what it was but… she didn’t die. I was able to get her some medical help and then as soon as she was stable sent her to the other parents who had already left town.
The Parkers were supposed to leave the same day as the attack. Amy and I were going to be the last ones out of town, but now it’s just me. Amy went ahead with Nancy.
We don’t know what happen to Jeff. He wasn’t there when I found Nancy and we haven’t heard from him since.
I’ve been staying here waiting for you guys.”
“Waiting for us? How long have you been waiting?”
“Only two months.”
Michael was outraged.
“Two months! You stayed here in this skin-infested town, what just hoping we would come back. Are you insane? You could have been killed. Were you just going to stay here until they killed you? Leave Amy and Kyle and Maria without you! What the hell were you thinking?”
“Amy and I decided that I would stay here for four months to wait for you to come here because someone had to warn you.”
Max stopped Michael before he could even start again.
“Thank you Sheriff. You shouldn’t have done that, but thank you.”
Michael just huffed.
“How’d you know we were coming?”
“Lonnie seemed to think so and Larek mentioned it in passing.”
Michael immediately began pacing to frustrated to even begin asking the questions running through his head.
Always the one in control Max took over.
“Lonnie? And Larek?”
Valenti gave a small grin, the same one Kyle gave when he knew he was annoying you.
“Yah, turns out Brody was right. A couple of days after Nancy’s attack Larek showed up at the hospital.
It was the strangest thing when he bowed to Amy commenting on the fact that the Commander’s wife’s mother was due the utmost respect to be able to raise a girl who could deal with General Rath.”
Michael had stopped pacing and paled
“Amy’s gonna kill me.”
Both Max and Valenti laughed at the utter horror reflected on Michael’s face
“So it’s true then, you go married?”
“What? NO! I mean not by Earth standards or anything, but uhh… I guess technically speaking based on Antarian culture our connection would be seen as permanent.”
“How do you know that?”
Michael looked at Max, realizing what he said.
“I dunno. Maybe Christina knows and I’m just picking it up from her.”
Max sighed unsure with how many more questions he could deal with.
“Anyways, Larek told us Khivar was plotting something big. He was gathering supplies and troops. Larek said he and the other leaders feared Khivar might be planning on coming to Earth. He sent the apologies of the other Council members for the way they acted at the Summit. He said they were just so frustrated with decades of war.
Larek told us you’d be coming back here soon because you had to pick something up that got left behind?”
“Ah… yes, the Granolith.”
“I thought Tess took that back to Antar with her.”
“So did we, but Christina said it was here.”
Off of Jim’s blank look Michael answer, “She’s my little sister. She was in Chicago.”
“Wow.”
“What about Lonnie?”
“Right, well it was before your parents had left town. Not long before actually, but she showed up like Isabel. We thought it was Isabel too for a bit. She wanted to know if Max had been around or sent any word about when he would get here. They got separated and she was trying to find him.
Amy said she sent out bad vibes. So we sort of tested her asking her questions that only Isabel would know.
She probably figured out what we were doing but she never said anything. She left two days later without a word. We got really luck that she didn’t hurt any of us.
Dianne said she heard her one night talking to Niko… mean anything to you guys?”
“Nicholas. Damn. I almost forgot Lonnie was out there. Guess it makes sense seeing as how Rath was still around until they saved Alex.”
Max smacked Michael in the back of the head as Valenti paled.
“Alex is alive?”
“Yeah, did you plan on joining Amy and the others or did you want to stick around with us for a few days.”
"How is Alex...alive?"
"Good question. We never actually got the full story did we Maxwell."
"I'm sure we'll hear it later. How bout it Sheriff?"
“I can stick around for a while.”
“Great we should get some food and we can catch you up until Christina gets here.”
“Max why don’t I run out for food and you give Valenti the details. Christina should be here soon anyways.”
“You got the door?”
Michael looked offended.
“I think I can handle it Maxwell.”
Valenti just smiled and settled in for the story as Max smirked in Michael’s retreating form.

Part 28
“So how long before they get here?”
Serena sighed it had to be at least the fourth time either Ava or Isabel had asked some version of this question.
She couldn’t really blame them though. She too was anxious to see her brother.
If she was honest with herself she’d admit she missed Kyle too. The ache in her was almost unbearable which scared her considering how short of a time she’d known him.
“Soon.”
They had after all been here for a day and a half already. They managed to buy all kinds of supplies in hopes that they would be here a bit longer than their last stop.
She hated to admit it, but she was actually surprised that the other two by unspoken agreement left the room at the back of the house for Maria and Liz. It had fewest windows and was closest to the secret getaway door they had created.
The other bedroom on the first floor, Ava claimed for her and Spencer. Also a great move because they had the most firepower. This left Alex and Isabel upstairs and the last bedroom yet to be claimed.
She figured Kyle would grab that room and she could sleep out on the pull away couch.
“How soon?”
“You tell me Isabel, you have a connection with Alex. Can you sense him moving closer? Ava you could probably use Max to see how close Liz is getting an even more exact location. If you both focused you would know just as well as I do when they’ll get here.”
Ava started, shocked at her outburst,
“Sorry, Serena. I just that…”
“we’re worried about all of them” finished Isabel.
“I know I’m just tired. I’m going to go rest up before they get here. Ava we leave at nightfall okay?”
Ava knew it was really a question but she nodded her head in agreement nonetheless.
Ava’s watched as Serena’s brown eyes flickered towards the door.
“Tell them not to wake me up until dinner.”
“Sure.”
Ava and Isabel watched as she climbed the stairs and took the last room for herself.
“Its amazing isn’t it?”
Isabel shook her head clear of her worries and paid attention to the small girl in front of her.
“What is?”
“Their eyes, well I guess you wouldn’t know sense you’ve never met Christina, but all four of them: Spencer, Serena, Michael, and Christina have the same eyes. The same but at the same time so fiercely different you know what I mean?”
Isabel nodded as she thought about it. Serena’s eyes sparkled with golden flecks constantly in a way she had only seen Michael’s do around Maria. And when she was annoyed her eyes seem to become shades lighter; she could clearly seen Michael’s eyes darken in frustration mostly due to something Max didn’t do. Spencer too she had noticed held the same dangerous glint Michael's got when someone threaten his family.
Ava was right with just a glance or only knowing them on the surface they would have the exact same eyes, but she knew better so did the others because they understood them and saw the changes reflected in their eyes.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s probably from the fact that their all related maybe their human donors had some sort of kinship too.”
Ava shrugged and headed towards the kitchen knowing Alex and Spencer and assuming Kyle was just as bad plus a pregnant Liz; they were going to need one hell of a lunch when the gang got here.

Part 29
Maria was driving with Liz asleep in the passenger seat. In the back Spencer was filling Alex and Kyle in on the Skin camps in Oregon.
“Three that you know about?”
“Yes.”
“So there could be more than that.”
“Yes.”
“And how many are we talking exactly in these camps?”
“20-50 Skins”
“And what are we leaning more towards?”
“Well, Portland we know for sure is a small base. There will definitely only be 20 skins there if not less. Newport, since its right by the ocean I would image is larger, but certainly not as large as the town they have near Klamath Falls. It’s like Copper Summit.”
“And we’re going to take them all out?”
“NO you are staying with Isabel, Maria, and Liz. From now on two people with powers at all times are to protect the Queen and Heir.
Kyle, Ava, Serena and myself will be going to take care of these camps.”
“Her name’s Liz and you’re lucky she’s asleep or she would have had your ass for calling her Queen.”
Kyle and Alex chuckled.
Spencer glanced up from the maps,
“I'm just stating a fact besides, shouldn’t you be paying attention to the road Maria, we’re almost there after all.”
All three in the back watched in fear as her eyes narrowed, but Maria merely laughed at their reaction and flipped through the radio station as they carried on with their conversation. Granted she was hanging on to their every word.
“So how do we do this?”
“Well we’ll head up to Portland first; it being the smallest will give you and Ava a chance to get your feet wet so to speak.”
Kyle nodded, “And then to Newport I’d imagine?”
“Right and then finally down to Klamath Falls. The whole thing should take no more than three days.”
Startled Alex exclaimed, “That’s it? Well say 12 hours on the road and the rest to destroy skins.”
Spencer agreed, but they didn’t really have a choice to take their time with this. As dangerous as it was for the newbies they didn’t exactly have all the time in the world.
“It is. We don’t make stops for food or sleep, only bathroom breaks and gas. Eating and sleeping is done in the car when someone else drives.
Taking out an actual camp has never taken us more than 12 hours and that’s with a lot of observation time. Don’t worry we know what we’re doing.”
Neither Alex or Kyle looked too convinced, but further question was put on hold as Maria pulled the car to a stop in front of a small two-story home.
“Welcome to Cottage Grove. I hope you enjoyed your ride. Be sure to take all of your belongings with you when you leave the vehicle and be sure to be safe during your stay.”
Spencer just shook his head still not accustomed to Maria’s wacky sense of humor.
Alex had a smile on his face and was shaking his head in amusement. Kyle full out laughed at Maria’s antics, incidentally also causing Liz to wake up.
“Are we there yet?”
All members of the SUV burst into laughed at Liz’s groggy question. Maria pulled her out of the car and together they headed to the front door.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ava had just pulled the cookies out of the stove when Isabel heard the doorbell. She rushed to answer it still covered in flour and powdered sugar.
She checked the peep hole and asked the prearranged question they had all agreed upon.
“Who is it?”
She held her breath as she waiting for there response.
“Hi Miss Zanderson, we are from Czechoslovakian Culture club wondering if you would like to join.”
Isabel laughed only Maria. She swung oped the door smiling she responded,
“Thanks but I’m already a member.”
Kyle inhaled deeply.
“Do I smell food?”
“Yes, Kyle its in the kitchen. At least wait until were all in there okay?”
“I make no promises.”
The others brought their stuff to their rooms and managed to join Kyle just as he started grabbing sandwiches and cookies stuffing his mouth as if they had been starving him.
“Thfhiiiass ims demlicmbhcioyus .”
Liz just stared at Kyle as he talked around a mouthful of food quickly losing the small appetite she had.
Ava pondered, “Was that even English?”
Alex nodded his head, as did Spencer who were both too busy eating and luckily too well mannered to attempt a compliment like Kyle.
Isabel shook her head in disgust; despite her best efforts she feared it was too late to train Kyle. She sighed as she answered Ava,
“He said it is delicious.”
Maria took a bite of her apple,
“You understood that?”
Isabel sadly nodded.
“I blame growing up with Max and Michael and then hanging out with this doffus for so long.”
“HEY! I’m not a doffus.”
Ignoring him, Liz turned to newly returned friend.
“So Alex I have a question for you now that things seem to have settled down a little bit for the time being at least.”
“Is there a list involved?”
The others laughed as Liz used her hair to cover her blushing cheeks.
She straightened her shoulders after the laughter died down.
“No it’s just with all the excitement of you being back with us and then the…the scare with Max, we haven’t really had time to ask how exactly you are still alive.”
Maria nodded her head in enthusiasm,
“Yeah Alex. I mean don’t take this the wrong way, we’re all glad you’re here, but how exactly did you pull that off? And how do you have cool aliens powers leaving me the odd human out. I though we were a team.”
Maria pouted as the others snickered to themselves.
“As far as the powers go, Ava and I assumed they developed during my sessions with her when she was restoring my mind. Tess did do quite a number on me, but Rath and Ava had heard Lonnie talking about it with the little kid what’s-his-name?”
“Nicholas.”
“Yeah that one. Anyways, him and Lonnie were talking about Tess’s plan dealing with me; Ava knew how much that would suck for you guys so she convinced Rath to help her out and stop being Lonnie’s bitch. They came to my rescue Ava pulled a mind warp on Tess when she was busy warping Kyle and they got me out of there.”
Liz eyebrows came together in confusion.
“Ava, when did you meet back up with them?”
“Oh, ah… after I left Roswell I made my way back to New York caught up with Lonnie and Rath right before they were headed back west. Figured I’d follow them and see what they were up to this time.”
“How did Rath end up in the body bag?”
This question came from Kyle who was looking more and more nauseous as the story was revealed earning how deceitful Tess really was.
Ava picked up where Alex left off,
“On the way out of town we ran into Lonnie and Nicholas. They were busy yelling at Tess since the body was gone. I was totally wiped out from warping Tess and trying to stabilize Alex’s mind so Rath protected us. He was able to injure Lonnie pretty bad but then Tess did her mind trick and Nicholas hit him in the back with a blast. He took aim at us but by them I was able to pull of another warp and get us out of there.”
As the others let this sink in Isabel asked the next question,
“Ava you restored Alex’s mind?”
“Restore is probably the wrong word. When I was connected with Alex I saw his mind was weaken by the mind-warp…”
Liz cut her off, “Max said something about that. After his confrontation with Tess in the Granolith Chamber.”
“Yeah, so his mind was weakened by the warp. I tried to strengthen his mind since I couldn’t just undo all that damage with healing…”
This time it was Maria, who cut her off,
“Why not?”
“Cuz’ Max is the healer and even then we probably would have needed the stones too. Anways, I basically activated parts of the brain that humans don’t use giving Alex more strength and in essences making him more like us with his powers.”
A more sober attitude fell across the table as they took in all of what Ava and Alex had told them. Just as the seriousness began to reach a point of awkward tension they heard,
“So what’s for dessert?”
Isabel rolled her eyes at Kyle while Liz and Maria giggled. Ava got up to retrieve the Tabasco swirl cookies she had attempted after getting a flash of them from Max about the time Liz had made them.
With the tension broken they moved on to discuss more trivial matters and the kitchen was filled with laughter as they forgot for a few hours the trials and troubles still headed their way.

Part 30
They had been talking for what seemed like hours when Michael suddenly looked up.
“Maxwell. Someone’s here.”
They filed out of the office in single file with Michael leading the way and Valenti in the back.
They heard the door shake as it was hit with an energy blast.
“Damnit, at least one of the Royal brats is here.”
“Lonnie will not be pleased that we let them slip past us.”
Max and Michael heard the third voice interrupt the two angry skins. It was too quiet for Valenti to catch though.
“How will Lonnie feel if you don’t turn up at all?”
One skin turned in confusion and then paled in fear at the sight of her.
The other skin was less intelligent and carelessly raised his hand to send an energy blast in her direction.
Before they knew what had happen they were both floating down towards the floor in a thousands scattered pieces of dust. All that remained of their husks.
Max raised his shield as the barrier took on a strange glow. Once again it spanned the length of the room and solidified making it hard to see through.
Christina stepped through the hole she created and was met with the green shield of her King.
She rolled her eyes as she bound down the stairs. Why didn’t Michael just tell him it was her.
She stopped an inch from the shield really taking it in for the first time.
“Oh my god!"
It was merely a whisper, but the three on the other side heard it. Then Max questioned,
“Christina?”
She had to laugh.
“Yeah Max, who else would it be coming to save your ass if Michael’s already in there with you.”
He dropped his shield as Michael responded,
“Our asses don’t need any saving; we came here to keep your ass out of trouble.”
However, Christina barely heard him as the shield came down so did the barricade between her and the AMP.
She backed away slowly with a hand to her head, and the other hand rose towards Valenti.
“Christina it’s okay he’s on our side.”
She shook her head, struggling for control, glass lights exploded and the display walls rattled.
Max looked at Christina in concern as Michael turned towards Valenti with distrust in his eye.
Valenti raised his hands in a surrendering manner.
“Michael, I swear it’s me. I don’t know…”
Christina gasped, “Shield! Put up the shield.”
Max did as he was told; he turned so he and Christina were separated from Valenti and Michael as the green barrier reformed again.
Michael went towards the shield but Valenti pulled him back.
“Michael I’ve seen that thing stop bullets I don’t think you want to touch it especially since it looks like Max has gotten stronger with it.”
Michael’s brows came together and he scratched his eyebrow. He knew Max wasn’t stronger than before, if anything he was just now getting back his full strength.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
On the other side of the shield, Christina dropped to the stairs breathing heavily.
Max approached her unsteadily and reached an arm out towards her while at the same time keeping the shield in place.
“DON’T”
He pulled back slightly hurt.
“A connection would… I’m too unfocused right now to stop it so no contact okay. With anybody.”
Max nodded. Seeing that she had regained her composure at least he asked,
“What the hell just happened?”
“He’s an AMP.”
Max looked at her confused,
“A what?”
Christina shook her head as the stray thoughts ran across her mind, trying to regain more control. The display cases still vibrated occasionally and that last remaining light was flickering.
“An amplifier.”
“Oh.”
Max just stared at her wondering if she really thought that answered his question.
She looked up to see his blank stare still focused on her and a worried expression shortly took its place.
“I’m fine and don’t worry it’s a good thing.”
Max nodded,
“I know Michael would be devastated if anything happen to you plus you have the connection to the granolith.”
Now it was Christina’s turn to stare at him in confusion. What was he talking about.
Then it hit her and she smirked and she raised her hand to run it through her hair.
Had either of them been paying attention they would have seen Michael do the same thing as he paced back and forth on the other side of Max’s shield.
“ I meant it’s a good thing he’s an amplifier. Notice your shield.”
Off Max’s nod she continued.
“He…Kyle’s dad right?” Another nod.
“Okay so Mr. Valenti, you healed him. He has power now like Liz and Kyle.
Technically he doesn’t have any powers of his own he just allows other to be stronger, their powers to be better. Hence the bigger and thicker shield.”
Max seemed to be following her so she went on.
“He probably doesn’t know it because all the aliens have been out of town for a while and it doesn’t actually involve the energy veins like Liz and Kyle got.
It’s...his power it's unfocused now just bouncing around effecting anyone it comes into contact with, giving them more energy…”
“Mrs. Parker.”
“What?”
“She was hit was an energy blast. Valenti said she should have died but didn’t.”
“Yeah he was feeding her energy unknowingly. He has to learn to control it fast because I won’t be able to function anywhere near him plus the skins don’t really need any more advantages.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“What the hell are they doing?”
“Maybe Max had to heal her?”
“NO, she’s fine. I can feel her. Plus, I can see them and their chatting away like Maria and Liz as if we’re not in the middle of a crisis.”
Just as he finished the shield came down and Christina was gone.
“Maxwell.”
“Calm down Michael. She just had to get away from Valenti until he learns to control his power.”
“Power. What power.”
Max gave a small smile.
Michael patted him onto the back, “Welcome to the club.”

AN: Thanks for all the feedback. It's great to know you are enjoying this as much as I like writing it. I should have another part up tomorrow. ~Enjoy!

Part 31
In the hours before dinnertime Spencer and Ava spent wandering around the neighborhood, eating ice cream and holding hands. Clinging onto the normalcy for just a bit longer.
Back at the house Kyle too had passed out. In Serena’s room.
He just wanted to go and check on her, but then she was mumbling in her sleep so he tucked her in better and tried to calm her down.
Once she was back in deep slumber he pulled up a chair to watch over her.
It wasn’t long before Isabel went up to find them both asleep hands clasping one another.
She softly closed the door as she headed back down to the living room where the Three Musketeers were gathered.
Alex was telling them all about his years away from them and all three of them had clung to his every word.
Liz tried to apologize for not figuring out that he wasn’t really dead.
Maria had rolled her eyes at that while Alex shushed her for the ridiculousness of that thought.
It was beyond them to have imagined he was still alive. Despite all the things in the world they knew where possible.
Isabel heard Maria shriek as she turned the corner. She caught Liz slapping a hand over her mouth as Alex jumped up.
“Isabel!”
She gave them a curious look.
“Yes, Alex?”
She watched his agitated movements as he glanced everywhere but directly at her and kept his hands shoved in his pockets.
“Nothing.”
The word was barely out of his mouth as both Maria and Liz reached over to smack him
Isabel was now really interested in what they were up to.
“Well, it’s not nothing, but later. We’ll talk later okay.”
“Sure.” With another questioning look she headed towards the kitchen.
“Anyone want to help with dinner?”
There was a mumble of responses as they all relocated into the kitchen
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
They had just walked past a clothing store and a jewelry store.
Ava was gripping his hand in hers while she devoured her Tabasco covered ice cream.
Spencer smiled.
In this moment everything in his life was absolutely perfect. He was enjoying a beautiful day with a glimpse of mountains in the distance.
The best part was obviously Ava. Like he had told Serena she was it for him.
“Ava?”
“Hmm” She responded as she licked ice cream from the cone before it melted.
“When all this is over. Do you think maybe we could come back here to live.”
“Spence that sounds amazing. I love it here all the friendly people and those cute little bridges they have.”
He nodded. Guess he had to be more specific.
“Can we build a life here Ava. Together.”
She stopped realizing what he was saying. Tossing her ice cream into the nearby trash she turned back towards him her purple streaks catching the sun as her blonde hair reflected a golden hue.
“Spencer are you asking me… what I think your asking me…? You want to marry me?”
“More than anything. On either world.”
He watched as tears filled her eyes. Spencer was about to panic until he saw the smile split her face and she launched herself into his arms.
“Yes! YES!! Oh my god yes! I love you Spencer.”
His lips searched hers out and they met in gentle passion. He sighed blissfully happy as Ava giggled herself. They pulled apart and he kissed her forehead.
“I love you too Ava.”
She started to walk again in the way they were headed but Spencer pulled her back.
“What’s wrong?”
He shyly smiled down to her and glanced at the store they had just past.
Ava saw the sparkle of diamonds in the windows.
She couldn’t help the excitement that exploded with in her gut.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I need everyone to know your mine. Forever.”
She gave him a smile and leaned up on her toes to kiss him again. Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she pulled back and dragged him into the store.

Part 32
Dinner was a pretty somber affair. No longer did the group have the luxury to pretend that certain members of them weren't charging towards death’s door in a few hours.
Nevertheless Maria and Alex both put forth their most gallant effort towards keeping everyone’s spirits high.
The others walked Ava, Serena, Kyle, and Spencer to the car, wishing them good luck as they piled in.
Liz was crying, but she blamed her hormones Maria just laughed at her and pulled her into a tight hug. Isabel rolled her eyes at Liz, but discreetly turned away to wipe her own eyes as the doors shut.

The decided Kyle would drive the first part of their trip with Serena giving directions while Ava and Spencer rested in the back.
Serena took note of how quiet the car actually was with the exception of the soft music coming from the radio not a sound was heard in the car.
Emotionally though, it was a different story.
Considering there were only three other people in the car they sure were managing to almost overwhelm her. She was glad her and Spencer had practiced so much as youngsters.
In the back, not only were Ava and her dear brother giving each other secret smiles when they thought she wasn’t looking, but the waves of absolute euphoric bliss was a complete contrast to what they should be feeling considering the situation they were in.
Something was up with those too; Serena swore to herself to find out what it was very soon.
Whereas the other two where completely unaware of the emotional waves they were sending or just didn’t care, she could tell Kyle was trying to stifle his emotional output.
Despite his efforts though his feelings were still coming at her loud and clear.
The slight twinge of nervousness about the upcoming battle would have been completely missed by any other empathy, but Serena was looking for it. However the anxiety for their fight was nothing compared to the apprehension he felt towards… HER!!!
Why the hell would Kyle be uneasy about her?
She slowly reached out for his hand, testing the waters.
She had thought they were getting along just fine. Better than fine in fact, after waking up to see his sleeping face and their hands clasped together.
He startled as her fingers came into contact with his and Serena pulled back as she sensed his sudden fear.
“Serena…”
It was barely a whisper but she heard it. Against her better judgment Serena turned to look at him just in time to see his hand reach back out for hers.
As their fingers intertwined she was blown over by the sheer strength of his emotions.
It was a fear that he had hurt her.
Apprehension towards her because…because he couldn’t stand being in such close proximity and not touching her.
He was worried she didn’t feel the same way.
And completely freaked out she would panic when she figured out how strongly he felt.
Desire, so strong it almost made her pass out.
He wanted her. So badly, she didn’t know how he was able to focus on driving.
Serena squeezed his hand in thanks; too overcome with her own emotions to form a coherent response.
As she melted into a big pile of goo in the front seat Kyle smiled as he glanced over towards her.
“Better?”
Serena could only manage a nod.
