Part 18
The next thing I remembered was waking up. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 1:11. But the only thing that I knew was that I had to pee really bad. After all I think I drank sodas last night.
I got up off of the floor. I had no idea how I had managed to get there. Maybe I fell off of the couch while I was asleep.
I walked to the bathroom and did my business. I was washing my hands when I finally noticed my face. It was horrible.
One side was dark with make-up. There was lipstick on my chin, nose, eyelids, and forehead. And where there wasn’t lipstick there was eye shadow, blush, glitter, and eyeliner. And it even looked like there was pink mascara on my eyelashes.
The other side of my face was another story. It was mostly eyeliner, the hardest thing to get off. Honestly I don’t see how girls can wear all of this make-up.
I cupped my hands and gathered some water from the faucet and splashed my face with it. Then I grabbed the soap and started to wash the make-up off of my face.
I think it took me about thirty minutes to get all that stuff off of my face. But soon I was done and I looked like a normal human being. Well besides the fact that my face was extremely red.
It seems it is a good thing that Maria’s house has so many sinks. It’s the first place a person goes after our sort of sleepover. Well besides the bathroom.
I walked into the front room again and I noticed that everyone was up. Alex and Tess were nowhere in sight. I guess they were the reason I heard running water. Isabel’s, Michael’s, and Kyle’s faces were kind of red. I guess they had already washed their faces like me.
“Hey, Max, did you sleep well?” Maria asked from where she was now sitting on the couch. She thinks she is so funny. I swear I will get her back next time.
“Yeah I did. Thanks.” I say. It’s the truth. I did sleep really well. I still have to figure out how I managed to get on the floor.
I was about to ask when Alex walked in the room. His hair was standing on end due to the make-over we had given him. He looked so funny I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Maria, where is a hairbrush? I need one.” Alex whined to Maria. He sounds funny when he whines. Plus he missed a spot on his face. And he had one more ponytail on the back of his head. He must have missed it.
“Try in my room on my vanity.” Maria said directing Alex to her room using her hands.
“Thanks.” Alex said rushing to Maria’s room.
“Oh where is a hairbrush. Oh where is a hairbrush.” Alex started singing as he rushed to Maria’s room to brush his hair. I felt sorry for him because you could hear him yelp in pain every now and then. He must have had rats.
“Who wants ice cream?” Maria asked getting up. I jump up as did everyone else and we made our way to the kitchen.
“Lets see we have vanilla, cookies ‘n’ creme, rocky road, and strawberry swirl. Grab a bowl and get what you want.” Maria stated getting all of the ice cream out of the freezer.
I rushed to the bowls and got some cookies ‘n’ creme and some strawberry swirl. Those were my two favorites. Then I sat down at the table again.
“I noticed Liz who had apparently, like Maria, been spared the morning make-over routine. She was eating plain vanilla ice cream. It’s cute, I guess she likes her ice cream plain.
As soon as we were all done Alex came in. His hair was now back to normal. And the bit of make-up was now gone. But there was no more ice cream left.
“Gee thanks for leaving me some.” Alex said looking at the empty containers and our empty bowls. I gave him a look that said I was sorry, but he ignored me.
“Alex, there’s a full container of Rocky Road in the freezer. I saved it for you.” Maria said and the look on Alex’s face was priceless. You would have thought he was a little kid who had just got a puppy dog.
Kyle and Michael got up all of a sudden. I guess they were ready to leave. I watched as Tess got up with them. I guess she was going to leave with them.
“Well Maria, I guess we’ll see ya later.” Michael said going over to give Maria a quick kiss. I had to give it to the guy, he was a poet. I still had to figure out why Maria stayed with the guy. But I guess you can’t fight with true love.
Kyle and Tess mumbled a quick good bye and then they all left. And that left me, Isabel, Maria, Alex, and Liz. I motioned to Maria that I wanted to talk to her.
We moved to the front room leaving everyone else in the kitchen.
“Maria, we need to talk about Liz. She needs a place to stay for a little while.” I said jumping straight to the point.
“Max I already talked to Liz about this. We even talked to my mom. She is going to stay in the guest room. So don’t worry your cute little air filled head about it.” Maria said and reached over to pat the side of my face.
“Oh yeah. You little-” I yelled as I started to chase her around the house as she shrieked at me to stop.
When we were done with our little chase sequence we went back to the kitchen. Alex was just getting done with his ice cream.
“Max I am going to leave. Is it okay with you if I take the jeep?” Isabel said getting up. I nodded to her and dug my keys out of my pocket and threw them at her.
“Do you want a ride?” She asked me, but I just shook my head. Alex on the other hand jumped up and ran to the door. I guess he was in a hurry to get home. Or maybe it was just to be alone with Isabel.
Isabel waved her farewell. Then she ran after Alex who was halfway to the jeep by now. Now it was just me, Maria, and Liz.

Hi guys! Happy New Year!
Ash_maxliz you asked what the deal was with Liz's parents so here you go:
Liz's dad thinks that since Liz came home drunk that she slept around with someone. (Don't ask where I came up with that, I don't even know) And her mom, who couldn't care less, went along with it. And as you can see they aren't very good parents. Does that help any???
This next part is very short, which I am sorry for. But I've been really busy lately. And I wanted to get this in before New Years ended for me. So here you go, the first new part of the new year! Happy New Year, 2004!
Part 19A
It was Liz, Maria, and I in the kitchen for the longest time. Then suddenly Maria got up and walked to the back door.
“Ok, guys, I just remembered that I had to go shopping. I’ll be gone for a little while. Liz, Max, can show you where everything is. See ya.” Maria said and then she left. Now it was just me and Liz.
I had been wanting to talk to Liz alone for a while now. And now I finally had my chance to do so.
“So, Max, I told you a lot about me last night. So now it’s time for you to tell me some things about yourself.” Liz said catching me by surprise. I guess I wasn’t the only one who wanted to talk.
“Well what do you want to know?” I asked. I really was curious what she wanted to know about me.
“Well what do you like to do? And I want to know about the rumors that I heard at school about you being a player.” Liz said surprising me yet again. I didn’t know she had heard those rumors about me.
“You heard about that?” I asked. I wonder how much she had heard about me. And she looked like she didn’t care about it.
“Yeah. I mean, how could I not? We are lab partners, so everyone found it necessary to ‘warn’ me about you. I figured that since you and I would never be a ‘thing’, then there wasn’t really anything to worry about.” She said. I was wondering why she would say something like that.
“You didn’t think that we could or ever would be a thing?” I asked. What was it with this chick that made her think all of these things?
“Max, you have to be kidding. I mean look at you. I don’t think you will ever grow up. And I don’t want to get played by you.” Liz said. Suddenly it all became crystal clear. The whole player thing wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.
“I guess I see your point. But still if I really tried, I think I could change.” I say. I don’t know why I said that, I guess it just came out. But I think that I really would try to change, if given the right incentive.
“Max, you can’t just do something because you think you can. You have to want to do it.” Liz said. This girl had now successfully made me think everything in my life over again.
“Yeah well, I guess you’re right.” I say and then I got up and walked to the fridge from the table, where I had been sitting across from Liz.
“No. You know I am. Now aren’t you going to show me the house?” She said and then got up too. I forgot all about the soda I was going to get and I walked over to her.
“Of course. Follow me.” I say and then I proceeded to lead her around Maria’s house. The place she was going to be staying for a while.

Part 19 B
Hi! I’ve found my muse. For the time being at least. Thanks for the feedback guys it means so much to me. This part is small but it's done. But anyways here is the new part.
Part 19 B
“And this where you will be staying.” I said as I led Liz into the guest bedroom. She seemed a little shocked by the bright colors, but then again who wouldn’t be?
“It’s very...lively.” She said as she sat on the multicolored comforter. I laughed and sat down next to her.
“Yeah, well, it’s Maria’s handiwork. But I’m sure that she wouldn’t mind if you toned it down a little...or a lot.” I said as I chuckled to myself.
I watched as she sighed and fell back on the bed with her hands covering her eyes as if to block out the bright colors. It sat there and watched her for a while, then she shot up like she had forgot something. I jumped because she had scared me.
“Oh crap! My stuff. All my stuff is at my other place.” She said putting a great deal of distaste into the last few words. She obviously didn’t want to go over there. At the least alone.
“Do you want me to go over with you to get all of it?” I asked. I was hoping that she would say yes for some reason.
“Would you? Oh thank you, thank you, thank you.” Liz said quickly reminding me somewhat of Maria. The she got up and ran to the door. I got up and followed her slowly.
“Wait! You let Isabel have your jeep! How are we going to get there?” she asked. I just opened the door and led her out.
“Do you have a car?” I asked as we just stood there on the porch. It was mid May so it wasn’t too cold out.
“Yeah. It’s an old one. Where are you going with this? It’s not like we can use it, it’s not here.” She said. She had no idea as to what I was getting at.
“Liz, it’s one block to the Crashdown from here. We can walk there and pack your things in your car and take them back here.” I said as I made my way off of the porch. I heard Liz’s footsteps as she made her way off the porch too. Soon she was beside me and we made our way to the Crashdown.

Part 20
We walked in silence the entire way to the Crashdown. I guess it was that we didn’t have that much to talk about. Or maybe it was the sexual tension. But that was just a guess...or maybe just a thought.
Liz hesitated at the door. But when I put my hand on her shoulder for support she took a deep breathe and walked in. I followed her close behind.
Agnes was working as the waitress for the day. So she wasn’t paying much attention when we made our way to the backroom and up the stairs to Liz’s room.
“I guess all that you need is your clothes, your school bag, and your...um...personal things.” I said as I sat on her bed and waited as she packed.
When she was done I stood up and gathered as much of her stuff as I could hold. She grabbed the rest and took her key chain off a hook on the wall.
I walked to the door but I stopped when I thought I had heard something. Liz obviously wasn’t paying attention and ran right into my back.
“Max, what are you doing?” Liz asked as she regained her composure. I put my finger to my lips to tell her to be quiet. Then I heard it.
“I swear - I’ll clean - if it’s - I do.” I heard a very muffled voice coming from down the hall that sounded a hell of a lot like Liz’s dad. It was Liz’s dad and he was talking to her mom and coming our way.
I spun around and faced Liz. She had obviously heard him too. She quickly turned around and went to the window. I could already see her plan: She was going to go down the fire escape.
She climbed out onto her balcony and over to the fire escape. I followed her close behind. I almost tripped over the windowsill but I regained my balance and made it to where she was.
“Liz, we wont make it down with the bags.” I said. I was a little breathless from all of the excitement.
“That’s why we are doing this.” Liz said and then she threw her bags down to the ground. I guess she had nothing breakable in them.
I followed her example and threw the bags I had been carrying down to the ground. And as soon as they hit the ground I could hear Liz’s dad opening her bedroom door. Liz took one look at me, then started to climb down the ladder. I followed suit.
We made it to the bottom and grabbed up the bags. Then we made our way to her car. We threw the bags in the back and then we started to laugh.
Why were we laughing? We were laughing with relief. With happiness in our success and just for the hell of it.
We laughed for a while and then we got serious. That’s when I realized how close our faces were. If I were to move forward one step we would be kissing. I didn’t know if I wanted to do it or not. But before I could make up my mind Liz’s lips were on mine. She had kissed me.

Part 21
Just when I was getting into it Liz pulled away. I looked down at her and she just bit her lip. I smiled at her and kissed her again. She smelled and tasted like strawberries. It was like that song, Senses Working Overtime. All my senses knew was Liz.
Through the fog I could vaguely hear someone clapping. Was Liz clapping at my very impressive kissing skills. No, wait, Liz had her arms wrapped around my neck. So it couldn’t have been her. I pulled away from her and looked behind me. And there was Liz’s dad standing there clapping his hands.
“Well if it isn’t Max Evans. I see you are the person my little whore of a daughter is with. Or are you two just sleeping together?” Mr. Parker said as he walked toward us.
“Dad, what are you doing?” Liz asked as her dad came only a few feet away from us.
“Liz, Liz, Liz. Please don’t act like I’m stupid. I don’t want you to go around town ruining my family’s name.” Mr. Parker said, this time he was closer to us. He was really starting to get on my nerves.
“Don’t even start on that! It seems to me the only person who is ruining your family’s name is you! And Liz is NOT a whore! She hasn’t slept with anyone since she has gotten here. So don’t go accusing people of something if you don’t even have all the facts!” I yelled at Mr. Parker. He took a step back away from us.
“Don’t start with me, boy. I know your father.” Mr. Parker said as if it was supposed to be threatening. But I knew he was done saying what he wanted to say.
He took another step back and then turned around and went back to the restaurant leaving me and Liz just standing there.
I sighed and slumped against Liz’s car. I stayed like that for a while, then I looked over to Liz.
She looked like she was pondering something in her mind. I stood up straight and faced her. She looked up at me from where she was standing.
“Max, about that kiss...Let’s just forget about it.” Liz said. I thought she sounded unsure so I gave her a quizzical look.
“Max, you aren’t going to change. And like I said before, I’m not going to sit around and be played by you.” Liz said. I couldn’t believe it. I had forgotten about that. I had to change her mind.
“Liz, I am more than willing to change for you. In fact I want to do it.” I said and I meant it too.
“Why, Max, what makes me so special? Why didn’t you change for everyone else?” Liz asked. I really didn’t have to think about an answer for that one. It just came to me naturally.
“Liz all those other girls didn’t have what you have. I can’t really explain it. It’s like I look at you and I want to do it. It’s like when I’m with you I’m a better person. I like that person that you make me. And it’s you that does it. You make me that person. It’s the goodness in you that make me that way. And if you would let me I could be that person for you.” I said hoping that she would listen to what I had just said. I had poured my heart out to her. And now it was all in her hands.
She didn’t say anything but she went over and got in the drivers side of her car and started it. I stood there for a second and then I went over to the passenger side and climbed in.
I couldn’t help but wonder why Liz had not answered me. Maybe she had to think about it. I just hoped that she would hurry up and make up her mind.
We drove in silence the whole way back to Maria’s house. I started to get out but Liz stopped me by putting her hand on my arm. I turned to face her leaving the door wide open.
“Max, I’ve thought it over and I’ve come up with you answer.” She started. I swallowed hard in anticipation of her answer. It was really becoming unnerving.
“I’m going to do this. But I swear, Max, if you ever cheat on me, you will regret it for the rest of your life.” Liz said but she stopped as soon as I captured her lips with mine.

I would like to thank all of you guys who have stayed with me through the whole story. And thanks to the people who started after the beginning. Your amazing feedback gave me what I needed to get to this part! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You truly are my inspiration.
Part 22
I am a happy person. I no longer sleep around with every girl I go out with. In fact I only go out with one person. Liz. She’s the greatest. We’ve been going out for a couple months now.
Things were pretty rough for us at first. I had to break off all of my old relationships which made me and Liz the subject of many evil glares. But that ended soon enough.
Then there was Liz’s dad. She finally got through to him, with my help. So now they are all going to family therapy which I can tell helps a lot. It turns out that her dad was mentally abused as a child and had been so worried about turning into his father that he hadn’t realized that he had. So Liz is now living back at home. And she’s actually loving the whole situation. And she tries to help out her dad as much as possible.
Right now I am at work in the UFO Center, in my usual ridiculous uniform. It’s a Thursday afternoon. We had school today and then I had to work. So I was tired and very hungry.
“Hey, Brody, I’m taking my meal break.” I said. This is what we usually say when we go to eat after 6. I don’t know why we don’t say diner break, but it’s a habit. I took off my vest and left to go to the Crashdown in my usual clothes.
I walked into the restaurant and saw Liz working behind the counter. I walked up and sat down in one of the swiveling chairs. Liz didn’t see me until she turned around. She jumped, recovered herself, and then laughed. I leaned over and kissed her.
“Having fun?” I asked. She looked worn out. But then I bet I did too. We shouldn’t have to work after school.
“We shouldn’t have to work after school.” Liz said taking the words right out of my mouth.
I smiled and leaned over to kiss her again. Then I got up and started to make my way over to my usual booth. I had barely made it when I accidentally ran into someone. I looked down and saw that it was one of the new waitresses.
“Sorry.” I said as I reached out to steady her.
“No, it’s my fault. I wasn’t looking where I was going.” She said, “My name is Britney by the way.” I smiled and went on to my seat. She followed.
I sat down and she sat across from me. I couldn’t help but wonder what this girls’ problem was.
“Um...I know that this may sound a little presumptuous. But I was wondering if you would like to do something with me tonight?” Britney asked. I was shocked. This girl was asking me out.
“I’m sorry, but you see, I have a girlfriend. And she happens to be coming this way.” I said as I looked up and saw Liz coming towards us.
“Hi, guys, what are you talking about?” Liz asked. She looked at Britney and smiled. Britney smiled back and then got up and left. I had to say that I was glad that she was gone.
“Ok that was weird.” I said. I motioned for Liz to sit down where Britney had been sitting earlier. She did.
“Liz, that new girl, Britney, she just asked me out.” I said. I don’t know what I was expecting Liz to do. I thought that she would get mad or at least a little upset, but all she did was smile.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked. Now she had me really confused. I was wondering why she was acting like she was.
“Well it’s a long story. But to make it short: I told her to as you out so that I could see that your player days were really over. I liked the outcome though.” Liz said. I didn’t know what to do.
“You aren’t mad are you?” Liz asked. Her smile was slowly fading away.
“Liz you asked a girl to ask me out to see what my reaction would be. Did you think that I would be happy that you didn’t trust me?” I asked. I wasn’t mad but I wasn’t about to tell her.
“I never said I didn’t trust you!” Liz said. My guess was that I had her riled up. I should have stopped but I was too caught up in the moment.
“No, that game you just did was just for the fun of it. Maybe I should get some guy to ask you out to see what you would say!” I shouted.
“If you were to do that then I would say no to him. And you know why? Because I love you, that’s why!” Liz shouted right back at me.
“Yeah, well, I love you too!” I yelled and stood up. I went over to stand beside Liz on the booth.
“I love you.” I said softly this time. I reached over and took a hold of her and pulled her up to my level. Then I kissed her.
We were both oblivious to the oohs and ahhs that we got from all of the other customers.
I was at that moment, with the woman that I loved in my arms, that I finally discovered that my player days were over. I had broken the major rule in the ‘How to be a Player’ hand guide. I had fallen in love.
