"Sure, whatever you say father of mine. IF something happens, I'll call. And as to Marie, I wouldn't not watch out for her when she is after all my sister and she's not much for the night scene." James tells me as he stands and starts to the door.

Well, at least he didn't yell, I tell my self as I sigh and watch him leave without another word. Looking at the closed door, I still can't shake the feeling that something was going to happen.

Sometimes I feel cursed having these abilities that Max gave me back so many years ago. I wish this empathy stuff was more specific. I know for a fact I can alter molecules, that is straight forward and no mistaking of the results. When it comes to feeling what others feel, or when things just aren't right, it's a shade of grey. There's nothing physical I can pinpoint. It can be very aggrivating though it does help with my job.

I run my hands through my hair that I've neglected to get cut and growl in aggrivation. Too bad I didn't have Michael's powers to blast things. I'd love to be somewhere secluded and take all my frustrations out on a poor pile of rocks.

Letting out a deep breath I begin to feel something else. Something...or should I say someone, more familiar. Her feelings of failure override any other emotions that are flowing through me.

"Stop it." I call out to my beautiful wife. "James is James. There is nothing you or I did to make him that way." I turn and see Elieen come from the kitchen. "He loves us. It's just...well, he reminds me of someone else back in high school. He has a hard time letting it show."

I sense her uncertainty. I pat the seat next to me that James had vacated.

"He's a good kid. A little stubborn, ok, a lot stubborn, but he'll grow out of this." I try to comfort her, hoping my words were the truth.

Eileen

"Stop it," I heard my husband called to me. He felt what I was feeling, if only to a small degree. Boy, his powers could be unnerving sometimes. Sighing, I made my way back into the living room. "James is James. There is nothing you or I did to make him that way."

He was right. I'd spent 18 hours in labour with James, which was way longer than what I'd had to go through with his sister. He was the difficult one then, and he still was.

Kyle turned to look at me and seemed to be trying to reassure me. "He loves us. It's just...well, he reminds me of someone else back in high school. He has a hard time letting it show. He's a good kid. A little stubborn, ok, a lot stubborn, but he'll grow out of this."

I didn't need empathy to know that he wasn't entirely sure of what he'd just said himself. Following his invitation, I sat down beside him, frowning. "I really hope you're right, honey," I said as I snuggled into my husband's arms, taking comfort from the warmth of his body.

"I really hope you're right, honey," She snuggled closer to me.

"Me too." I say softly wrapping my arms around her. I kiss her head and sigh. I never thought that raising children could be so hard. I'd always thought I was a good kid, giving my father little trouble...but then, thinking back, maybe I did give him reason to worry back in my teenage years.

Pushing those thoughts aside, I smile. "What do you say we enjoy this time together?" It's not often that we have an entire evening alone. I wiggle my eyebrows at her in the goofy way I do that usually makes her laugh.

"I'll call for dinner, you go up and do whatever women do to get ready for their handsome husbands."

"Me too," Kyle whispered before gently planting a kiss on my forehead.

After several moments of silence, he put on a smile and suggested, "What do you say we enjoy this time together?" He did his eyebrow thing and I couldn't help but laugh- worked every time. "I'll call for dinner, you go up and do whatever women do to get ready for their handsome husbands."

I pushed his arm playfully, a little more cheered up now. "If you think I'm going to make myself look all pretty for you- well, dream on, mister," I teased.

"Hi," Amy said as she opened the door, and I had to keep my jaw from dropping to the ground. She looked...hot. Don't get me wrong, she always looked beautiful, but it was usually a quiet, shy type of beauty. There wasn't anything shy about her thin, skimpy top, or the way her hair fell onto her tantalizingly bare shoulders.

"I... you look like... Lily," I blurted. Oh shit. Remember when I said I didn't say stupid things around Amy? Well, I take that back. I was willing to bet that no girl ever liked to be compared to her sister. Especially a twin sister. "I mean, you don't normally dress like that. Are those her clothes?" I asked, trying to return to my smooth manner and salvage the situation.

I stood there and waited for her answer, hoping I hadn't blown the the evening before it had even started. I wondered if she'd be upset, if she'd think I liked Lily. Which was crazy. Lily was just... Lily.

"I... you look like... Lily,"
Someone kill me now.
He thinks I look like Lily? As in he likes Lily? And so he settled for second best?
Ground swallow me whole. He wants to be going with Lily. He wants Lily. I will never ever be good enough. I can feel my heart breaking.
"I mean, you don't normally dress like that. Are those her clothes?"
So he stares at her enough that he knows Im wearing her clothes huh? Great...just great. I am so tempted to go in there, call Lily out here and get her to go with him and me to go to my room and cry.
But Im not going to give him the satisfaction. I will not let him know how heartbroken I am. It's not like he could ever realise anyway. How could he? He has his own fanclub.
I give him a smile, which I force myself to do.
"Yeah these are Lily's. So, shall we go?" I make my voice say evenly in a monotonous tone.

"Yeah these are Lily's. So, shall we go?" She replies in a hollow voice. I knew it. 4 little tiny words, and I've just blown it with her. Obviously she's pissed about my comment. But what do I say? How do I make it up to her? And why do I care? This really isn't like me. When did she become so important?

She starts to move past me and heads for the car. Half because I know I have to say something, and half because I just want to make the questions stop, I grab her arm and turn her to face me. "Amy, you look beautiful," I tell her, but feeling that this isn't enough, I add, "But then, you always do. Even without Lily's clothes."

He makes me look at him.
"Amy, you look beautiful,"
Whoa...the question is did he mean that I look "beautiful" because I look like Lily?

"But then, you always do. Even without Lily's clothes."
I look at him stunned. Without Lily's clothes? He thinks Im beautiful normally. I can feel myself blushing...he actually thinks Im beautiful.
"Thanks" I say in a small, quiet voice.
I cant help but think he would still rather be here with Lily...but at least he thinks I look good.
I give him a small smile. "You look very nice too" I tell him.

Christina

Erik started the car and we drove towards our destination, the car silent. "Christina, I hope you enjoy the show tonight." Sabrina said quietly, breaking the silence.

"Oh, yeah. Good luck," I replied, turning and smiling at her. "You guys are going to be great."

I turn back so I am facing forward, feeling the awkward tension in the car. Maybe I shouldn't have asked for a ride. Just then, Erik's voice breaks through my thoughts. "You look nice."

"Oh, thanks. You look great too," I said, smiling over at him from the passenger seat. The maroon button up shirt he was wearing made him look very clean cut and went well with his eyes.

"I hope you don't mind if I help Bre set up. The girls have a lot of equipment and I usually help them get it all out."

"No, of course I don't mind," I added, biting my nails in nervousness. It was a habit I'd had for years, and I just couldn't get rid of it. "I'll just hang out and stay out of everyone's way."

"Well, um, you could always help. I mean we can always use an extra hand. Right Bre?" I glance up into the reaview mirror hoping she doesn't mind that I've asked her to help. "I'll show you where things go and how to hook them up."

I give her a quick smile and waited for Christina's response. Maybe I'm reading more into this...maybe she has no interest at all into me and she just needed a ride.

'I'm going to blow it Bre.' I say silently feeling more nervous than ever.
