Chapter Thirty One

Everyday, a shade of blue
you won't believe, what i'm goin through
it just feels like i can't afford to let myself go

An array of rainbow colored dresses accompanied by black tuxs filled the Metropolitan Museasum as the Art Reception party of the centuary was taking place in this crowed display of color danced and moved like a work of Art as champin was poured and people danced to the music while they walked around and caught glimpises of the beautiful art around them.

"I have to say Micheal I am very impressed. It's just amazing." Max said as he and Micheal dressed in black tuxes looked at his latest piece of art as they drank champaion.

"Thanks Maxwell. If you excuse me I have to say hi to some people. You know business stuff anyway if you guys want to get the hell out of here early let me know. See you later Max." Micheal said smiling as he greeted some High brow art dealers.

Max sighed drinking the last of his champain and put the glass down as the song Waiting For You by Seal countinued to play in the back ground.

His eyes drifted and scanned the room and looked up at the marbel stair case above him and then froze at the sight he saw

Everything around him was in slow motion. He was sure it was a dream as Liz glided down the stair case as if she had wings. She was breathtaking as he stood and watched her movements.

"I've must of died and gone to heaven becasue you must be the sexiest man here that I've ever layed eyes on. Liz whisperd huskly.

"Really because I thought I was the one in heaven cause I have just been struck by an angel." Max whispered as he kissed Liz soflty. "Liz you look amazing" Max said softly as she smiled. Liz was wearing a long dark red low cut dress with her dark brown hair hanging around her face in long tressles.

"Thank you.I must say the black tie fits you nicely" Liz said as she touched Max's bow tie and smiled. The two of them then started walking hand in hand through the gallerly.

"There you guys are Isabel and I have been looking all over for you. Micheal is going to reveal a surprise painting tonight and they are about to show it." Alex said beaming as Isabel dressed in a long dark blue dress with her golden hair in a french twist stood next to him smiling.

"Yeah I can't wait to see it. You guys look amazing. Oh this is so exciting. Come on lets find Maria." Isabel said as the foursome made their way through the crowd.

The music stopped as the group took their seats as Micheal made his way towards the potium towards the mic. "Um testing testing...Um ok where to begin first I would like to thank you all for coming out tonight. It means a lot to me. To the Met and their supporters for finding the money to help put on this wonderful eveing.

To my crew Steve,Monk,George, and Fly who helped me fund raise and put the exhibit together. You guys are like family to me and I want to thank you." Micheal said as a group of guys in the back started cheering "Your the man Chico" as everyone laughed.

To my friends from New Mexico who flew all the way out to New York to be here tonight Thanks. You guys are my family you got me though a lot growing up and I want to thank you for believeing and sticking by me through out my career even if you thought I was crazy and totally insane taking Mr. Cowan art class back in high school I guess it payed off and yes I am still crazy. I love you guys. Thanks." Micheal said smiling as the group laughed and smiled.

"OK now on to the revealing." Micheal said as he uncovered the black cloth to reveal a world of color and shapes as the painting stood before the crowd.

"Now a lot of you have seen this painitng already.It has travled many miles to get here. But it's my favorite because when I look at it I see love. This painiting holds a special meaning for me. One being that this painting found and brought love to two of my friends which happen to be here tonight and second because this painitng has my heart and soul in it, Which I created for another work of art who is here tonight." Michael said as he walked over to her.

"Maria words can't describe how much I love you.You are my inspiration my strength, my rock who always sees the best in me and looks through my stone wall and sees me for me.

I am not really good with words here so anyway what I am trying to say is like a classic painting it gets better with age and I want to share a life time looking at you Maria my beautiful work of art while we paint our life together. I love you so much Maria will you marry me?" Michael said as he got down on one knee as he opened up a beautiful box with a diamond ring inside.

Maria stood their in shock and then smiled "Of couse I will" She said as they hugged each other as tears of joy fell from their eyes as the crowd clapped and graces the cpuple with thier warm wishes as campaion was poured and the evening activities of dinner and dancing were underway.

Chapter Thirty Two

The group was all a buzz of excitement as they crowed around the happy couple sharing in their good news. "Oh my god Maria your ring is gorgeious" Isabel said as Maria held out her hand for everyone to see.

"Wow talk about a rock. Micheal how the hell did you afford it?" Alex said looking at Micheal. "It actually was my moms it's been in my family for generations. My Uncle gave it to me after my mom and dad died. You remember they died in the horrible car crash when I was seven.

Anyway I always loved it thats why I gave it to Maria because I feel like it is me giving her a piece of my family because she is my family. Sorry to get emotional on you guys but you know I consider you my family."

Micheal said looking at the group smiling. "I know Micheal we consider you family as well. Your like a brother to us." Max and Isabel said as they hugged their life long friend.

"So when is the wedding?" Liz asked. "Oh not for like another two years. I know it's a long time away but this way we can save up some money and have a lot of time to plan things." Maria said beaming as she squeezed Michaels hand.

"Well I am sure it will be quite a wedding knowing your mom Maira she will be extatic to hear the news." Liz said smiling.

"Oh my god thats right we have to call our family wow there are so many people to call and tell." Maria said with excitment as she flipped open her cell phone.

"Thanks Liz now she will be on the phone all night." Micheal said laughing.

"Oh come on guys lets go and dance." Isabel said dragging the group on to the dance floor.

The rest of the night the group spent dancing and having a blast as they celebrated their friends joyious news. Liz was dancing with Alex while Isabel was dancing with Michael as Maria talked awayon the phone to her mom about the wedding plans.

Max then decided to get some air and started making his way through the crowd. He stopped by a near by window and breathed in the fresh air as the song The Reason by Hoobastank started playing.

I'm not a perfect person

"Hey Max" a voice said above the music as Max turned around. "Tess what are you doing here?" he said in shock as he looked at the bond hair woman dressed in a dark purple low cut short dress in frount of him.

"Look I know that I am the last person you want to see but just hear me out' She said softly as she looked into Max's eyes.

And so I have to say before I go

"About what you said to me. You were right I have changed. I went home that night after I left your apartment and I cried for hours. I was asamed for the person I was and had become and all of the hurt I put so many people through. Especially you Max. I never ment to hurt you." Tess said as tears started to fill her eyes as Max listened in silence.

"I was killing myself all these years. I burried the person I was and hurting myself in the process. I sat in my aprtment looking at old pictures of myself when I was happy when I could laugh and be myself and then I looked at pictures of the monster I became as a result of my drinking and being mean to people and I relized that I don't want that any more." Tess said taking a deep breath.

"Here I want you to have these." Tess said opeing up her bag and handed Max a small box. "What are these for?" Max said staring down at a box of cigerates she had given him. "I am starting over a new slate. I am no longer the Tess Harding that was at your apartment but the one you meet when we were 14. That is why I came tonight becasue I was hoping to find you.

I want you to have these because Max you were the one who made me see the light and that I don't have to live a life of destruction. You gave me a chance at a new life and for that I am greatful.

"Look I am not asking you to be my freind or anything. But consider it a truce between us and all of the pain I have caused you." She said looking into his eyes.

Max didn't know what to say he just staired at the box and then looked up at her. "Tess I don't know what to say. I really respect you for what you did, it took guts for you to come here tonight. All I can say is I wish you the best of luck on your new life and if you ever need a friend you know I am here." Max said as he hugged her.

"Thank you." tess said when they broke form the hug. "Well I really have to go. Take good care of yourself Max." Tess said as her eyes became misty.

"You too." He said smiling. "Bye Max and thank you for everything." Tess said as Max watched her leave through the crowd.

Chapter Thirty Three

The music stopped as Maria, Isabel,Michael, and Liz took a break. Isabel and Alex were over by the punch bowl when someone caught the corner of her eye.

"Wait that can't be?" Isabel said in aw. "Who?" Alex asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Tess Harding" Isabel said as her eyes scanned the room.

"The tramp.What the hell is she doing here?" Maria said as she joined Alex and Isabel at the punch bowl.

"Thats right she lives in New York now. Must of found out about tonight when she was at my brothers apartment." Isabel said as she filled her glass with the red sparkling liquide as she was thrown back into the memories of Prom.

"Oh my god Isabel you are going to have so much fun at Prom with Malamoot. He is hysterical. Tess said beaming.

"Um I bet" Isabel said smiling weakly as she helpled decorate the gym for the upcoming night.

"To be honest with you Tess I wish I was going with Alex Whitman" Isabel sighed as she grabbed another star from the box.

"Wait Alex Whitman the dorky bass player from The Whits!!!" Tess said in shock.

"He's not dorky" Isabel said coming to Alex defense as stabbled a star in place.

"Oh come on Isabel how can you say he is not I mean he hangs out with that freak Maria Deluca and that geek Liz Parker!!!!" Tess said in shock.

"Now you are going to the Prom with Malamoot a man of high stature as far as the social ranks goes I mean he is cute and a fine althleate and he is just hysterical." Tess said trying to convince her friend.

"I guess your right. I mean it should be a pretty good time. So how are plans going between you and my brother?" Isabel sighed trying to change the subject as they started taping streamers along the gym.

"They are going just fine. I am just glad that everyone knows he is my boyfriend so no one else can steal him." Tess said smiling. "You got that right Tess I mean practually every girl in West Roswell wants my brother so you are pretty lucky you got to him first." Isabel said as her and Tess laughed.

"And look at you Miss Ice Princess practually every guy in the whole school wants you. Malamoot is pretty lucky he got stuck with you as his Prom date" Tess said as she stappled some more stars onto the cut outs.

Isabel smiled and then wispered "some how I am not so sure" as she sighed taping the last streamers in place.

"What about Max's apartment?" Liz said as Isabel broke out of her trance. "Oh nothing" she said shacking her head."Speaking of Max have any of you seen him?" Liz asked as she scanned the room.

"No I have no idea where he is hidding. Come on Alex lets dance." Isabel said smiling as Alex took her arm as they hurried off to the dance floor as the song "Shadow" from britney Spears started to play as Liz made her way through the crowd.

Lz scanned the room until she found Max starding by the window away from the crowd. She walked over and surprised him with a kiss. "There you are I have been looking all over for you. I missed you." Liz said smiling as Max smiled but his eyes seemed distant.

"Liz" he whisperd deep in thought as he looked at her. "Max are you ok?" Liz said looking up at him. "Wait since when do you smoke?" Liz said confused.

"What?" Max said in shock and then looked down at eh cigerate box he was still holding. "Oh these are Tess's" He said reggedly putting two and two together as he look at Liz.

"Tess? Max I don't understand? What does Tess have to do with this?" Liz said as she looked into Ma'x eyes searching for answers.

Max took a deep breath and sighed. "You see Tess lives in New York now and one night we went out to celebrate she got really drunk and..."

"Wait Max why didn't you tell me you saw her? So is that what Isabel ment when she was talking about your apartment? Liz said in shock.

"Well you see Tess came back to my apartment that night because she was drunk and her friends had other plans so she couldn't get a ride home." Max said trying to explain himself.

"Oh so she couldn't get a ride home right so how long was she there for?" Liz said getting a little defensive.

"Um 5 days" Max said as he gulped and swallowed back the limp that was forming in his thoat.

Liz then clapped her hands together "I really have to applaude you Max on a job well done. You really had me fooled there. Wow bravo it's no wonder you are such a good lawyer you could have any jourey fooled with the act you out on. And here I thought you actually loved me. Liz said laughing as she shook her head in shock.

"Liz I didn't know that Tess stayed that long at my apartment I thought she left the next moring when I was in Boston seeing you." Max pleaeded.

"Just like I didn't know you saw her! Stop it Max!" Liz said as anger stared burning in her eyes.

"Liz please Tess has nothing to do with us! "Max cried softly as he came closer to Liz and threded his fingures through her hair and caressed her cheek.

"Stop it Max! Stop it with your silly games!" Liz cried as tears filed her eyes as she pulled away from Maxs touch.

"Liz" Max cried soflty as he watched her run away from him as he started to run after her crying her name.

"Liz" Max cried as he ran faster trying to catch up with her as she ran out side the museaum. Rain was falling in fast ferious sheets as Liz ran down the large stone steps crying as the rian soaked her crimsion colored dress as Max fought the rain running after the blurry vision of her.

Liz ran and held out her hand as a yellow taxie came into sight as she climbed into the cab and shut the door as the rain came pounding hard againts the cab.

Max hit the cab widow with his fist "Liz, Liz" he cried as Liz looked up at Max his eyes were filled with tears and his tux soaked from the rain.

"I love you" he wispered through the thunder of rain rattling against the taxi window as Liz tured and closed her eyes before opening them as tears streamed down her cheeks. "Just drive" she told the Taxie driver as Max pouned the taxie and she was out of sight.

Their was nothing but a blurr of yellow as Max stood there his cloths being soaked by a mixture of rain and tears as his heart acked. he had lost the one thing in his life he had waited so many years for and now she was gone. Vanished like a dream.

Lighting streaked across the sky the same lighting that had brought them together that fateful stormy night. Only now to be haunted by the memories of her forever.

Chapter 34

"Liz I don't understand, why?" Maria said as she talked to her friend on the phone.

"Look Maria like I told you before I don't want to talk about it" Liz sighed.

"Ok fine so are you going to the reunion or not?" Maria said as she flipped the invitation in her hand waiting for her friends answer as she held the phone in her other hand close to her ear.

"Like I said I am not sure?" Liz sighed talking to her best friend long distance.

It had been 2 years since that fateful night in New York. She went strate to Max's aptartment gathered up her things crying and went straight back to Boston with out so much as a good bye or leaving a note.

Only Boston was just as crazy. She was always piled high with papers and research and spent late nights at the lab. Liz even dated Doug for a little while thinking it would help her.

But nothing did nothing could ease the hurt and constant ach in her heart. It was like she was living one constant nightmare that woun't go away. So she decided to come back to the one place she knew would be a safe haven home in Roswell New Mexico.

Liz now worked for the University of Las Cruse in their science department. Dr. Holt was upset to see her go but she thought it best and made sure she would be taken care in New Mexico. Coming home was just what Liz needed she had to take a step back look at her life and see what she really wanted on her own. Her parents were more then thrilled to have to stay with them and it was nice to see Alex every now and then.

"Oh come on Liz it's the 10 year reunion you have to go! Remember when we were freshman and we daydreamed about coming to the 10 year and knocking everyone socks off just like in the movie Romie and Michelles High School Reunion and show everyone up for the way they treated us." Maria said excitedly trying to convince her friend.

" Yes I remember" Liz said laughing" But Look I told you I can't" She said sighing.

"Is it becasue of Max and Tess? The bastard I can't believe he did that to you I sure as hell have a few words to say to him!" Maria said fuming.

"Maria like I told you it's....it's complicated" Liz said as her voice grew shacky as her eyes filled with tears as memories of high school flashed through her mind.

"So I hear Pam Troy is going with some model from East Roswell High. Can you believe that! So who are you going with?"Sabrina Potter buzzed loudly with her classmates.

"I am going with Ed Potter" Laura Christy said. "Oh he is cute." Tess said smiling and then turned towards the brown hair girl two rows down from her. "Watch this" Tess whispered to her friend.

"So Liz who are you going to Prom with?" She said flashing a hugh smile and batting her eyes intergued to hear her answer.

"Oh...um wow I didn't know Prom was approaching so fast. I am really not sure" Liz said hestating as she looked at her.

"Really you don't know because I would of guess you would be going with the tall dark and handsome type am I right?" Tess said smiling as her eyes gleamed with fire as her classmates were now intreged to hear the conversation.

"I guess" Liz said looking up at her shruggling her shoulders.

"And of course this tall dark and handsome man would play sports?" Tess said prying.

"You could say" Liz said looking up at her.

"So lets see Kyle no he has blond hair and blue eyes, Malamoot... too guaky....let me think." Tess said tapping a fingure across her chin. "Tommy Hilligan um...he's cute but not tall enough... wait I know Max Evans!" Tess said looking at Liz with gliming eyes.

"Max Evans" Liz said staring up at Tess as her cheeks turned a deep crimsion red as her classmates giggled. "Of course why didn't I see it before Max Evans he fits the description perfectually.

Thats who you are going to ask to Prom isn't it Liz I mean you have had a crush on him since freshman year." Tess said stairing into her dark brown eyes.

"No" Liz said feeling herself get all flustered from embarrassment as her classmates laughed even more.

"Well even if you were don't even think of it. He's mine Parker! And don't even think about playing your silly little game to get him to fall head over heals in love with you because it will never work! He will always and forever be mine and will forever love me! So don't steal my boyfriend Liz or else the rest of your senior year won't be so pretty!" Tess said coldly as the green monster took it's life in her eyes.

"Well as for your tall dark and handsome theory of who I am taking to Prom is wrong! For your information It's not Max it's Alex Whitman I am taking!" Liz said as anger pulsed through her body as she gathered up her books to leave as the bell rang.

"Alex Whitman but he dosn't even play a sport!" Tess yelled as she watched Liz stop in her tracks and spin around.

"It's called Dodge Ball" Liz yelled smiling as she walked out of the room feeling her whole world collaps around her as she walked through the crowded halls upset and hurt.

"When isn't life complicated. Liz you are so going besides me and Alex and the band The Whits are reuniting and playing at the reunion so you have to come. I promise it will be a good time. Please" Maria begged over the phone.

Liz hated it when Maria begged as she heard her friend wine on the other line. "Alright I will go" Liz sighed as Maria busted out in joy. "Great it's going to be a blast Liz!! Screw all of the Max Evans and Tess Hartings in the world this is our time to show them all just how popular we can be!!

Look out West Roswell High class of 2002 here we come!!!!" Maria said excitedly as she hung up the phone with Liz fearing her worst nightmare was about to begin.

Chapter Thirty Five

"I need to get out of this city" Max grumbled over the phone with his sister long distance.

"Yeah I hear ya it's been crazy with traveling these last few weeks especially with the CDFA Fashion Adwards last night in LA. I could use a vacation." Isabel said sighing wearly over the phone.

"So where do you want to go Figi,Europe,Bermuda, I am up for anything" Max said as he started to dream about far of places.

"Well you are in luck how does warm sun,stary nights, and the open range sound." Isabel said excitedly.

"I'm in where are we going?" Max asked interged over the phone.

"New Mexcio. It will be great to see Mom and Dad. Plus It's West Roswell High's 10 year reunion" Isabel siad as she looked at the invertation in her hand.

"Looks like you will have to enjoy your sunny destionation with someone else. I'm not going Izz" Max said gloomly.

"Oh come on Max your still not upset about Liz Parker leaving you? Max that was 2 years ago" Isabel said annoyed.

"I guess look Isabel it's really complicated" Max sighed.

By the time Max had reached his apartment in New York that rainny night she was gone. There was no note no good bye just emptiness like the one in his heart.

He tried to go to Boston as soon as he could however he was called into court the following week with his client and the trial began. Their was no way of getting out of work this time.

The trial lasted a month. Max won the case due to the amount of research he threw himself inot to try to get his mind off of her. However nothing helped. As soon as he could he raced to Boston to tell her he was sorry that he was an idiot for not telling her about Tess and that she was the only one for him and that he loved her.

However Max never got the chance when he reached Liz's apartment it was empty just like it was the first time he meet her that stormy night two years ago.

He asked the movers about Liz and where she was but the only thing they could say was "Miss Parker left yesterday she didn't say where she was going only that she was in a hurry" The mover said as he carried in a piece of furnature.

"Thanks" Max said as he stood in the empty apartment and scanned the room with his eyes. He then looked at the business card with the address of Mr. Broady davis scrippled on it as memories of that fateful weekend filled his mind. He then stuffed a piece of paper into his pocket and left.

"Look Max I am worried about you. Please come for my sake." Isabel said hoping her brother would say yes.

"Ok Izz if it means that much to you I will go." Max said sighing.

"Thanks. I will let you know when we can leave for our trip." Isabel said beaming on the other line.

"Sunny New Mexico here we come" Max said as he and Isabel laughed.

"It's nice to hear you laugh again." She said.

"Get some sleep Isabel. I will call you in the morning." Max said slightly smiling.

"You too night" Isabel said yawning as she clicked off the phone leaving Max to his thoughts.

Chapter Thirty Six

"Ok Alex one more time from the top" Maria said as she held on to the microphone and looked at her other band members.

"Look Maria the guys and I are exhausted we have been practicing all day do you think we can take a break?" Alex sighed as the other band members of The Whits groaned.

"Yeah he's got a point I mean the reunion is tomorrow so we still have tonight." Chris said as he placed his drum sticks down.

"Ok yeah I could use a breather myself. My voice is killing me" Maria said as she took a sip of water from her water bottle.

"Well your voice better be ready for tomorrow night when we rock the halls of West Roswell High again" Markos said smiling.

"Don't worry if I know Maria she will have some remidy for her voice between the Cypress and Eucalyptus Oils..." Alex said as Nicky interupted him "Oh and don't forget the deep breathing thats the greatest buzz ever!!!" Nicky said smiling as the group looked at him like he was insane.

"Um... yeah... well anyway like I was saying I am sure we will all be fine for tomorrow." Alex said ignoring his friends last comment.

The Whits all had a little reunion of their own during the week. Maria had taken off of work at the Dominique de Anarchy in New York and her boss Matt Walden was more then happy to let her have a few days offs.

"You deserved it Deluca. Have an awesome time at the reunion oh and let me know how your performance goes with your band The Whits. If it goes well we can book that tour for you right away. Hope the CD's are a hit. Tell Alex I say hi and have fun." he said smiling.

"No problem knowing these guys I am sure that tour will be in order after this reunion. See you on monday." Maria said beaming as she left her office.

Her and Micheal then booked a flight and were stayig at her moms for a few days while Alex and his crew hung around his parents house in Roswell.

It was just like old times you would of thought that they had been playing for years with the way they sounded and Maria and Alex could of been happier spending time with their old friends.

"Hey guys do you want to go to the local Pizza Pan for dinner and have a little fun." Maria said smiling.

"Like in karaoke!" Alex said beaming. "Sure you know me I am always in." Chris said smiling. "Awesome man count me in I am starving" Nicky said happly.

"Sounds great Maria lets go and relive how it all started." Markos said as the group left Alex garage and headed to their old local high school hot spot as their thoughts drifted back to that fateful day in September during their freshman year.

"Singin I love Rock and Roll so put another dine in the joot box baby I love Rock and Roll so come on take your time and dance with me" Maria sang the last cord as the crowd cheered.

"Wow that was amazing" Alex said patting Maria on the back as she sat down next to her high school friends Alex, Chris,Nicky, and Markos.

"Man you rocked the place!" Nicky said giving her a high five.

"Thanks I try." Maria said laughing.

"Listen Maria you know Chris,Nicky, and Markos." Alex said beaming.

"Oh course I do they are my music buddies along with you. Why?" Maria said looking at the group.

"Well I was thinking since Nicky plays lead guitar,markos on rhythm,Chris on drums, me on base and you..."

"Wait Alex you are starting a band oh ym god of couse I will sing for it count me in" Maria beamed cutting Alex off in mid sentance as he looked at her in shock.

"Really wow I mean really thats great." Alex said smiling

"Yeah we have been talking about getting a band started for months and since we are all such good friends why not." Chris said beaming.

"Who knows we might even be good." Markos said smiling.

"We could be a legend" Nicky said as he waved his hands in frount of him.

"Well legend or not bands get the ladies." Alex said wiggling his eyerows up and down.

"Sure Alex's your mind might have the right idea but just keep your wits about you ok. Your getting ahead of yourself Mr. Rockstar" Maria said laughing.

"Wait hold on what did you just say?" Alex asid intreged.

"I said your getting ahead of yourself." Maria said looking at her friend like he had five heads.

"No before that" Alex said.

"To keep your wits about you" Maria said as she looked at Chris and Markos and Nicky to help her out as to why Alex was acting crazy.

"Thats it W H I T S The Whits thats our name." Alex said as if a light bolb just flashed above his head with a brilliant idea.

"Our name?" Nicky said confused.

"Our band name The Whits. What do you think?" Alex said beaming.

"It's ok" Maria said shugging her shoulders.

"Yeah not bad" Chris said smiling.

"Pure genious!! The Whits I love it!!!" Nicky said beaming.

"Um The Whits has a nice ring to it but I still think you are crazy Whitman." Markos said laughing.

"Just you wait and see I have a feeling the Whits will be the next music sene of West Roswell High" Alex said as he eat his pizza happly.

Isabel and Max checked into their room at The Tumbleweed Hotel. They placed their luggage down and lay on the two full size beds exhausted. The flight had been long and had gotten in late.

"Look Max if you don't mind I am think about ordering room service and crashing here. I am so tired." Isabel sighed. "Sounds good to me. I could use the rest." Max said yawning.

hey eat dinner and then got ready for bed. " I can't believe tomorrow is the reunion. Shound be fun" Isabe said as she looked at the invitation and then climbed into bed and turned off the light.

"I guess" Max sighed as he pulled the covers over him downing him into a world of darkness just like the darkness that now filled his heart as he sank into his dreams. Tomorrow was more then just a reunion he was going to try to rewrite history.

Chapter Thirty Seven

Liz looked at the clock as she put on the last of her lip gloss. She then looked at her reflection in the mirror and sighed as she looked at the image of a small geeky looking girl staring right back at her all over again as the memories and feelings of high school flooded her mind.

It had been two long years and she knew she had lost the love of her life. It was stupid for her to really think that Max Evans was in love with her the small shy geeky girl who wasn't popular. It was a nice dream while it lasted only to be turned into a nightmare just like her life always did.

"Why why was I so stupid!! And to think I gave myself away for him!! I was waiting and I gave it away to him only to have my heart torn out by that bitch!! Tess was right I was a fool to think he actually loved me. She will forever be his." Liz thought as tears filled her eyes.

"Oh this is stupid why are you dwelling on the past that was two years ago you have a better life now. Really you do. You have grow a lot and know who you are as a person so stop beating yourself down." Liz said outloud as she wipped the tears from her eyes as she heard her mom call from downstars.

She then looked at herself one last time in the mirror. Her black skirt and dark red top fitted her to a t and her hair was an array of dark tressles she no longer looked like the geeky girl she knew long ago she was a well acomplised woman and it was time to let the world know. Liz sighed takign a deep breath and headed out the door.

"Bye mom and dad see you later" She said running out the dark wooden doors of the Crashdown.

"Bye honey have fun at the reunion" Nancy Parker yelled as Liz got inot Maria car.

"Hey Chica are you ready to rock?" Maria said as she blasted the radio.

"I guess" Liz said sighing. "Well you look amazing Liz you are so going to knock everyones socks off tonight and show them!" Maria said as they crused down the highway.

Max and Isabel got out of the car and walked towards the illumated lights of the light brick colored building as it shined in the dark. The words W. Roswell High School Pathway to Excellence and Integrity glowed like a mirror as their silver letters shinned in the light.

"Wow isn't this a blast from the past. I never thought I would be here again." Isabel said as they way their way towards the enterence. "You can say that again." Max said as they entered the long hall way and made their way towards the gym.

Music filled the crowed room as Max and Isabel made their way through the sea of happy classmates.

"Max Evans is that you?' A tall woman with long blond hair said wearing a black cocktail dress. "Vickie Delanie. Oh my god it's been ages how are you?' Max said hugging his life long childhood friend. "I am good wow I am glad you made it Isabel siad you were coming." Vickie said smiling.

"Um yeah well I gues I changed my mind." Max said looking at his sister. "Well I am glad you did. Come on you guys can sit at our tabel." Vickie said as they made their way through the crowd.

"Liz Liz you made it!" Alex said beaming as he and The Whits greated them. "Yeah sorry about getting here late but traffic and all." Maria said as her and Liz hugged their friends.

"No problem besided we are not on until later tonight they have a DJ in the mean time." Alex said looking at the stage.

"Oh great come on I could use a drink let get some punch. Micheal should be here already. Lets see if we can find him." Maria said as she made her way towards the buffet tabel.

"Look Liz the guys and I are getting a tabel if you want to come." Alex said smiling. "Thanks Alex I would like that." Liz said as she made her way towards the blue and gold round tabels that were decorated with blue and gold balloons in the center.

"Evans" A tall blond hair blue eyed man shouted from across the room. "Kyle Valenti" Max said as Kyle gave him a huge hug. "How the hell have you been Max?" Kyle said as he sat down next to him along with his friend Malomoot and other old jock friends.

"Pretty good and yourself." Max said trying to have a good time. "Never better. I own my own hotel now on the Vegas strip. It's called Buddahs delight I was going to name it The Lamp Trimmer but the name didn't go over to well. Anway business it great. I couldn't be happier. So what about you?" Kyle said smiling.

"I am a lawyer in New York. Business is going well. It's crazy but good. Tess Harding is also in the city. She works for a business frim I see her every so often. She is doing great." Max said as he watched Kyles face drop in shock. "Wait Tess Harding! Is she her tonight? Max do you know if she is here? I have to talk to her!" Kyle siad excited.

"Kyle I am not sure are you are ok you look a little crazy?" Max said eyeing his friend. "yeah yeah I am fine. Look Max I got to go. If you see her tell her I am looking for her." Kyle said as he got up from the tabel. "Sure thing Kyle." Max said as he watched his friend leave shacking his head laughing.

"Maxwell. Finally someone normal to save me from the weird fest. God I hate these things! I'd rather be abducted by aliens and be tourchered then go through this!!!" Micheal said as he sat down next to Max.

"Hey Micheal. Yeah I hear ya. Listen if the mother ship lands let me know." Max said laughing. " So where is Maria?" he said eying his friend

"How should I know probably gossiping about everyone she see's to the The Whits." Micheal said laughing. "Did you see Mr. Hoffman and crazy Señora Villa?' Max said.

"Yes Mr. Hoffman died when he saw me you remember how I almost electrified his desk back in Junior year. And Señora Villa is still crazy as ever she tried to talk to me in spanish witch did not go over so well." Micheal said as the two of them laughed.

"yeah well at least you didn't set yourself on fire in Mr. Seligman Chemistry class junior year and nearly burn the school down. God that was so embarrassing" Max said blusing remembering the insodient.

"Yeah well anyway Maxwell I am off to find Maria. See you around." Micheal said as he left leaving Max.

Max watched him leave and then got up from the tabel. "Excuse me Isabel and Vickie but I am going to get a drink." He said making his way towards the bar in the back of the gym.

Alex then made his way towards the stage to lok for his band members to tell them to set up soon when a fimilar voice was heard from behind him. "Alex Whitman so we meet again. Care to dance" Isabel said batting her eyes. "Isabel" Alex said kissing her. "Sure I would love to my lady" Alex said as they linked arms and headed towards the joyious display.

Max sat in the back of the gym leaning against the wall sipping his drink hoping to down his sorrows away as he staired at the array of happy people in frount of him laughing and having an great time. he knew it was a mistake coming here but what choice did he have it was his last hope of finding his dream.

Two years felt like an eternity to him. He cursed himself for waiting that long to go after her saying he could of done more. But what could he do he didn't know where the girl of his dreams had flown to his angel was gone and their was nothing he could do about it. He finished his drink and asked the bar tender for another one. He payed for his drink and went back to his brooding display.

Tess said smiling. "Your right Tess I'm sorry. I guess I just I just...."

"Look it's ok. I understand but at least try to have a good time for your sisters sake and mine. I mean I would hate for Isabel to think she dragged you out here for nothing." Tess said encourgenly. "I guess your right. Well you will excuse me Tess I have to go dance with an old friend of mine. Thanks" Max said smiling.

Ok as far as the 2 year thing goes I was trying to make it where Max and Liz meet 8 years after high school I really wanted for their to be a 10 year reunion in my story some where so that is why I had to wait 2 years so it would fit in.

"Tess wow you look you look amazing" Kyle said as the two embrased in a huge hug. "Kyle I can't believe it is you!" Tess said glowing. "How have you been?" Tess said staring at her long lost friend.

In a few minutes the music stopped as The Whits stood on the stage in darkness as Lester Alex life long band groupie went towards the mic.

"OK I everyone and welcome to West Roswell Highs 10 year reunion. I hope you are all having a great time. At this time I would like to present to you the legend that shook the Roswell garage music community and took the town by storm. These people have been friends since High School when they srated this band.

No I am not talking about No Dout. You have know a lot of their songs like Love Hurts and Love Kills.

It has been a pleasure to work with these guys over the years and now for your enjoyment I bring to you reunited after 10 years, the legend,the one and only The Whits." Lester said as the crowd cheered as the lights came up on stage as Chris hit his drum sticks together and the band begain to play their song KeepSake as each band member took a turn to sing a verse of the song solo.

The crowd cheered and started to dance and listen to the music. "So Kyle how have you been? Is sin city still treating you well?" Tess asked as they sawyed to the music.

"me I am great. Yes Vegas is still amazing. Did I tell you i now own my hotel there. It's called Buddah's Delight. Business is going great. So what about you. Max tells me you are living in the big apple now?" Kyle said as he looked into her eyes.

"Yes actually I moved their two years ago. I am staying at my long time friend Ava and her boyfriend well now husband Zan they both got married about a year ago. "Tess why did you leave Vegas?" Kyle said softly as he held her close.

"I was scared. Between you and the gambling depts and scraping to get by it was just too much for me to handel. I had to get out and face life on my own for a while. I got involved with the hotel indestry and from there worked my way to the top and now I own my own hotel and my bussess is really successful. Only problem is I am not really happy." Kyle sighed.

"Why" Tess whispered. "Because I don't have you in my life. Your the reason why I changed and I hoped that I would see you again. I love you Tess. I always have and I always will." Kyle whispered into her ear.

"I love you Kyle my heart will always belong to you" Tess said softly.

"Tess I yave somethgn that I always wanted to give to you but I never got a chance to in Vegas." Kyle said as he pulled out a small box.

Tess opended the box and gasped as the sight she saw. "Tess will you marry me." Kyle said soflty.

"There was one. But she is gone...." Max said as he twirled Vickie and caught her spinning around and then stopped as he caught a glimps of longdark brown flowing hair and two brown clolred eyes sparkling in the crowd.

"Or maybe not" Max said in aw as he stopped and staired as Vickie looked up at him. "Excuse me Vickie there is something I have to do." Max said as he started to make his way through the busy dancing crowd.

Chapter Thirty Nine

Max ran through the crowd like a mad man trying to find her. However their was no luck after the slow song The Whits started playing a fast one and everyone started jumping around and mashing as Max pushed his way through the crowds of people.

He couldn't lose her again and scanned the gym and the dance floor several times however there was no luck and he went back to his tabel frustrated and sat down next to Vickie.

"Hey are you ok Max? You look like you just got your heart ripped out and trampled on." Vickie said in concern. "You could say that again. Wher is my sister?" Max sighed. 'Oh she ran into the fashion police and are catching up. Anyway back to you whats wrong I am hear if you need to talk." Vickie said smiling.

Max looked into Vickies eyes is their was anyone in the world who knew more about his love life and girl problems it was his childhood friend. He trusted her with his darkest secrets as a kid so he knew he could tell her.

"Ok it's a long story. If their was anyone I could share this story wiht it would be you. I trust you Vickie. Now your not going to believe me when I tell you but here we go...." Max sighed as he started to retell the fateful rainy night he meet Liz Parker 8 years after high school in Boston.

Wow Liz it's funny runing into you. So what have you been up to?" Tess said sweetly.

"Like you really care" Liz thought and then smiled. "I am a molorcholar Biloigist. The job is great Harvard medical really treated me well." Liz said as she smiled. "Wow congrats thats great to hear. I am now living in New York working at a business firm. The job is great I love it." Tess said as she poured herself a drink.

"hey sorry to break up the happy momment but I just wanted to let you guys know that The Whits are taking a breather and then are going to play some more songs. Alex is going to sing the next one!" Isabel said smiling as she sat down.

"Thanks Isabel. Look I am going to see Alex catch you guys later." Max said as he hurried to catch Alex beofre he went up on stage.

"Maxwell Evans I would like to have a word with you!" Maria yelled as she ran towards Max. "Not now Deluca their is something I have to do." Max said as he took out a piece of paper from his jacket hurried towards the stage.

"Wow congrats on the engagement. I am sure you nd Max will be very happy" Liz said trying to fit back her anger. "Oh my god Liz you have it all wrong I am engaged to Kyle." Tess said in shock.

"You know Tess you don't have to play dumb with me." Liz said as she started to leave. "But no Liz it's the truth. Kyle just proposed to me!" Tess pleaded as she tried to catch up with Liz.

"Wow Tess you know you donlt have to make up stories just to make me feel better. You win. I am sure you and Max will have a very happy life together." Liz said as she quickened her pace as The Whits begain to play the song with or with out you by U2.

Chapter Fourty

The music finished playing as the crowd cheered as Max and Liz broke from their kiss at the far cornor of the stage. "Lets get out fo here and find a place to talk" Max whispred softly into Liz's ear above the noise. She shook her head and hand and hand made their way through the crowd and left the noisy and crowded gym.

Moonlight shinnned along the school coutyard making the pavement look like liquid silver as shadows chased themselves along the walkway as the trees swayed in the soft gentle breeze in this mistical world. The stars shinned brightly as two souls entered walking hand in hand.

"It's so beautiful out tonight. Wow this place holds a lot of memories." Liz said as her and Max sat down on a beanch. They both sat their in silence for what seemed like an eternity and then Max spoke. "Liz why did you leave?" Max said his voice full of pain as he spoke.

"I don't know maybe I was scared. it's funny but for the first time in my life I was really happy when I was with you. But I wasn't scared about you I was more scared about my life and myself. You know my whole life I had this goal to study real hard get good grades go to Harvard and become a molecular biologist then I would work really heard and become hte head of the department.

That was it that was my life. Sometimes it was all I could think about. Yes I was really focused on my future and what I wanted only when I finally got it I realised that I wasn't living that my whole life passed me by. Back in high shcool I would spend hours studying. My nose was always in a book. Yes I was your typical science dork.

Anyway the night at The Met when you mentioned Tess's name I got really scared I don't know if you know this but when we were little like back in 5th grade we were freinds. But it was more like a friendship of competition we were always competing for something and to be the best and win over the other. Wether it came to sports,grades,clubs,even guys it didn't matter.

By the time 8th grade came our freindship pretty much was over however we were still really competive especially when it came to guys. Tess would always make sure she was going out with someone just to rub it in my face.

Then high school came and the riveraly got worse she would make fun of me all the time, it's one of the reasons why I didn't make cheerleading junior year because I wasn't cool enough. And then I think she got the sense that I liked you and it drove her nuts with jealously that we were lab partners and I spent time alone with you in science class.

Though she never admitted it but Tess would always make comments about how you were her Boyfriend and that I didn't have a chance and that no matter what you would be with her forever." Liz siad closing her eyes taking a deep breath as painful memories flashed through her mind. Liz then opened her eyes and continued.

"So when you mentioned her name that night it was liek a slap in the face to me that Tess was right and that she won. After that I went back to Boston and to my job. I started to date Doug. He was more then thrilled to go out with me however he was obessed with me and loved me but the whole time I was dating him felt hallow inside.

So a month goes by and Doug proposed to me. I couldn't believe he wanted to marry me after knowing me for a month. I told him I couldn't he was devistated and keep on asking me why." Liz said as her memories flooded back to that horribel night.

"Why not Liz" Doug said in a demanding tone. "I love you" He whispered. "I'm sorry I told you Doug the answer is no!" Liz said. "But I love you" Doug said as he leaned in closer to kiss Liz. "I don't love you." Liz said softly yet forcefully as she moved away from him. "You could grow to love me. I would be a good husband I would care for you and watch over you." Doug said softly.

Liz sighed "I'm sorry Doug I told you I can't" "Yes you can please!" Doug begged as Liz looked at him. "No" Liz said softly. "Please just go" Liz said looking at him.

"Fine Liz fine you know what I've had it with you. You will love me!" Doug said as he fourced himself on her and pressed her against the wall holding her chin up with his hand as he started to kiss her. Liz struggled and pulled away.

"No get off me!" she screamed as she struggled to break free. "No Liz not this time you can't run from me. I own you and you will love me!" Doug said as he pushed a hand on her shoulder while the other stared to travel up her leg.

"NO!" Liz yelled as she slapped him with her free hand and pushed him off of her. "GET OUT!! Liz yelled "Haha your funny parker real funny" Doug spat vemiously as he rubbed his cheeck where Liz slapped him.

"GET OUT DOUG OR I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL CALL THE COPS!" Liz yelled. "Fine I was leaving anyway. Good night Liz!" Doug yelled as he stomed out of the partment and closed the door.

Tears streamed down Liz's face as she sighed and wipped her eyes. "That night I filed a report. Doug was eventually fired from the job and was sentanced. After that I knew I couldn't stay so I packed up my things and moved back to Roswell.

Dr. Holt,Eddie, and Elieen were glad Doug got the punishment he deserved but were sad to see me leave. Dr. Holt was really sweet and made sure I was taken care of at Las Cruse University in their science department. It's not Harvard medical but it works fine for me.

My parents were so happy to have me come home and were so worried about me when i told them what happend but were relieved that I was now safe. So this is where I have been now for the past two years." Liz said softly.

Max looked at Liz and her tear staniend face he wanted earase all of her painful childhood memories and he wanted to kill that bastard Doug for all of the hurt and pain he caused her but he knew that Liz was safe. "Liz I am so sorry" Max said sofly.

"I had no idea."He said looking at her. "So how did you find your letter to me anyway?" Liz said trying to change the subject remembeirng how moments ago she had heard the words she had hoped and longed to hear finally read to hear again. "I must say that was the craziest and most romantic thing I ever saw someone do.' Liz said smiling

All of Max's thought of killing Doug quickly vanished at the sound of her voice as he looked at her and smiled. "What can I say I am crazy when it comes to love." He said as the two of them laughed and then grew quiet.

"Oh well you see after you left that night I became frantic and all I wanted to do was to tell you I was sorry. By the time I got to my apartment you were gone. I then wanted to drive to Boston and see you however I was called into court and the trial lasted a month. I tried calling you but I got no answer.

I even tried to get out of court but I couldn't. After the trial I drove to Boston to see you. By the time I reaced your apartment you were gone and the movers were their moving in the new people. I quickly scanned your place one last time when I noticed it was laying on the counter so I grabbed it and left.

Liz I was wrong that I didn't tell you about Tess. After you left Tess and I rebulit our friendship. I helped her though a lot as she helped me. I think of her more now like a sister then any thing. She has really grown up a lot and changed for the better. For some months she was dating this guy Larrick and I dated this girl Serena. Ava Tess's friend and roomate set me up with Serena cousin.

The relationship started out good but got rocky towards the end. I just always felt something was missing. We finally relaised it wasn't going to work and broke up at Ava and Zans wedding. The wedding was wonderful it was a great time despite the breakup.

Most of the time my friends would worry about me I was always working and hardely went out. So when Isabel invited me to come with her to the 10 year I had no choice but in a way I was dreading it and excited to go all at the same time because I was always hoping I would find you again."Max said smiling.

"Me too. So what happends now?" Liz whisperd softly. "I don't know." Max whispered. "How long will you be in Roswell for?" Liz asked looking into his eyes. "A week." Max said. "Ok it's funny but we always find each other no matter how long or how far it's been. Their must be some cosmitic fource pulling us towards each other."Liz said in aw.

"I know it's crazy. Look Liz I tell you what how about we spend this week gettig to know each other. I mean really getting to know each other. This way we can see if what you say is true is." Max said looking into her eyes. "I would like that. But I can assure you I already know the answer to my question."

Liz said as she leaned in closer to Max. "Whats that?" Max said as he leaned in towards her. "You will just have to find out." Liz whispered as they engulfed each other with a passioante kiss.

"So I hear their is a reunion underway that is sopost to be the party of the century." Max whispered. "Really because I thought it was right here." Liz said soflty as her eyes glowed."We will save that reunion for later." Max whispered huskly into Liz's ear causing her heart to melt.

"Come on" Max said nodding towards the doorway as he took Liz's hand into his as they both got up from the bench and walked back inside the school towards the joyious and noisy gym. Yes history was definally rewritten tonight Max thought as they entered the gym.
