Part 31

Liz pulled up at the hospital and parked the car in the first place she could fine. The pains had continued and she was growing worried for her baby.

‘Are you alright Miss?’ a nurse asked as she walked in.

‘No. I have pains in my abdomen and I’m pregnant’ she explained.

‘Ok lets get someone to look at you straight away’ the nurse directed her into a room with a bed and helped her lay down. About 5 minutes later another lady entered, this time with a white lab coat.

‘Hi I’m Dr Jones’ she explained.

‘Liz, Liz Parker’ Liz replied while the Doctor moved to examine her stomach by pushing on it gently.

‘How far along are you Liz?’

‘I’m not positive but we think a couple of months at least’

‘Ok lets take a look at what’s going on’ she turned to the nurse then ‘can you organise the ultrasound equipment please’

‘Liz we’ll be back in a couple of minutes, feel free to use the phone to call anyone that you need to’

When the Doctor left Liz picked up the phone and dialled Max’s cell again.

‘Evan’s and Associates’

‘Sandra it’s Liz. I need to get in touch with Max NOW’ she explained.

‘Liz’ Sandra sighed.

‘Don’t Liz me Sandra. I’m at the hospital and I want to know where the hell Max is’ she started to cry.

‘Oh god are you ok?’

‘No I’m not Sandra and by help me God if things go bad here and you’ve kept me from speaking to Max then I wont be responsible for what I do to you’ she threatened.

‘Hold on Liz’ she said quickly.

Sandra dialled Max’s cell.

‘This better be good Sandra’ he answered; he didn’t even have to look to know it was her; her number was the only one that could call his cell today.

‘Max, Liz is on the line and she’s insisting on talking to you’ she explained.

‘Put her through’

‘Liz?’ Max said when he heard it go through.

‘Max’ she cried.

‘Baby what’s wrong’ Max was having difficulty talking to her. He was in the line to board his flight and he had run into someone who apparently remembered him from school and was talking in his ear.

‘Max’ the girl giggled ‘You can’t use your phone here’

‘Max’ Liz said again into the phone. She heard the voice and her heart sunk, who was he with and why couldn’t he use his phone.

‘Yeah I’m here baby. I cant hear you though’ he yelled into the phone.

‘Come home’ she spoke into the phone. ‘I need you’

‘Ok I’ll be there in a few hours, listen I can’t talk so I’ll see you then’ he said before hanging up.

Liz felt the tears fall as she placed the phone back down just as the nurse and Doctor retuned.

‘Ok are you ready. Lets see what’s going on’ the Doctor said.

Max pulled his car into the drive way at 10 o’clock that night and made his way into the dark house. He was surprised that the house was so dark but assumed Liz had been tired and gone to bed. He would make up being so late today to her tomorrow and on Sunday he thought to himself with a smile as he made his way up the stairs hoping to see the love of his life. He totally missed the blinking answering machine on his way up the stairs.

The bedroom was dark as he entered so he made his way slowly over to the bed. Undressing whilst he was at it.

‘Liz’ he whispered but once he reached the bed he realised that it was empty. He turned on the light and then quickly went into the bathroom to see if she was in there.

When the bathroom turned up empty as well he made his way down stairs to look for her in the rest of the house when he noticed the answering machine.

‘Max, it’s Isabel where the hell are you?’ she yelled into the phone ‘When you get this ring me ASAP’ and then the phone went dead.

Max sighed, he didn’t have time for his sisters PMSing tonight he was worried about Liz.

He was about to pick up the phone and dial her cell when it rang.

‘Hello’ he said.

‘Max where the hell have you been’ came his sister’s frantic voice.

‘Chill Iz I had to take care of something out of town’ he replied flopping down onto the couch. ‘Listen Iz as much as I’d love to talk to you I need to free up the phone so I can call Liz’

‘Well maybe if you hadn’t hung up on her, or diverted your cell you’d realise that she’s not at home because she’s in the hospital’ she roared.

‘WHAT?’

A/N: Thank you for all the feedback and continual support. Obviously this story wont go on forever but there are still a few parts to go unil then. For those of you readin You Cant Get Back Yesterday it has also been updated. If i leave you out of my thanks list it's not intentional. This story was pruned again.

Part 32

Max ran into the hospital as fast as he could. Isabel hadn’t told him what was wrong over the phone he hadn’t given her the chance.

‘I’m looking for Liz Parker’ he told the nurse at the front desk.

‘Down the hall, room 104’ the nurse replied with a smile.

Max continued running down the corridor until he saw Isabel sitting outside the room.

‘Iz where is she? Is she ok? What happened?’ he fired at her.

‘She’s asleep Max’ she told him.

‘What happened?’ he asked her then.

‘I’m not sure she was out of it already when I got here and they wont tell me much because I’m not one of her emergency contacts or a relative’ she explained.

‘Then how are you here?’

‘She called me after you hung up on her and asked me to get in contact with you. I kept getting your message bank and Sandra wouldn’t tell me where you were so I came here to wait and keep calling you’

‘Sandra didn’t know where I was’ he said then. ‘Come on lets go find out what’s going on’ he replied before rushing off down the hall.

‘Excuse me, can someone help me. I’m Max Evan’s I’m Liz Parker’s boyfriend, she came in earlier today’

The nurse pulled out Liz’s file and looked over it quickly ‘If you would like to take a seat I’ll page the Doctor’ she told him.

Five minutes later a women in a lab coat approached them and Max assumed it was the Doctor.

‘Hi Mr Evan’s I’m Doctor Jones’ she introduced herself.

‘Hi this is my sister Isabel’

‘I recognise her’ she smiled.

‘Mr Evan’s Liz came in earlier today with pains in her abdomen which was of some concern considering her condition. We did an ultrasound and ran some tests which turned up very little I'm afraid but she became very upset over the pain and after the ultrasound, especially since you weren’t here. In the end I gave her a sedative which is why she’s asleep now’

‘Is she ok, and the baby?’ he asked then.

‘It’s too soon to tell, the baby seemed to be in distress’ she told him.

‘Oh god’ he cried sinking into the chair.

‘Liz is pregnant?’ Isabel asked then. Max nodded.

‘Can I sit with her?’ he asked then.

‘Yeah I think that would be fine, she’ll be happy to see you when she wakes up’

Max stood up and tuned to Iz. ‘Thank you for being here for her when I couldn’t’ he said to his sister, tears now falling. ‘You should go home and get some sleep there is nothing that you can do here tonight’ he continued.

‘Ok’ she nodded ‘Do you need me to call anyone?’

Max thought about that for a moment ‘No if you could keep this to yourself I’d appreciate it. We haven’t told anyone yet and this isn’t the way we want to. I’ll talk to Liz in the morning’

Isabel nodded before stepping forward to give her brother a hug.

Max’s legs nearly gave out on him as he entered the hospital room where Liz laid. She was sound asleep and her face look very pale. He took a seat beside her bed and reached for her hand.

‘Hi baby’ he whispered and let a hand wander down to the place where their baby was growing ‘hi little one’

‘You’ve got mummy very scared, and me too so if you could settle down I’d really appreciate it. We both love you so much already little one so please don’t leave us’ he whispered.

Max had fallen asleep around 3 on the chair beside Liz, which is where he still was when Liz began to stir the next morning.

She could feel something grasping her hand and when she looked down she saw the head full of almost black hair that belonged to her boyfriend.

‘Max’ she whispered mainly due to the fact her voice wouldn’t allow much more.

When he didn’t seem to have heard her so she ran a hand though his hair. She noticed that he was still wearing the same clothes she had seen him dress in earlier the previous morning when he had left for his meeting.

Ha she thought, must have been some meeting if there were giggly girls. She knew that she shouldn’t be angry with him until she found out where and what he had been doing and despite the phone call her heart wouldn’t believe that he would cheat on her but she couldn’t let go of the fact that whilst she was in hospital, where she could have potentially lost their baby that Max was off somewhere where he refused to be contacted, even by her. She didn’t think they had secrets between them but obviously she had been wrong, because Max seemed to have.

Max began to wake slowly at the feel of a hand running though his hair. He realised then that he was at the hospital with Liz and his snapped up quickly to meet her beautiful doe eyes.

The minute Max eyes met Liz's she could feel the tears pool in her eyes.

‘Hey’

‘Hey’ she replied.

‘How are you feeling?’ he asked her then.

Liz thought about the question and a hand went down to her abdomen. She couldn’t feel any pain so she moved to sit up further.

‘Ok’ she replied.

‘I’m so sorry I wasn’t here baby’ he said then.

Liz shrugged and turned away from him, she wasn’t angry that he hadn’t been there straight away, she was angry because he had lied about where he was.

‘Liz?’ he asked concerned when she turned away from him.

‘Is the baby ok?’ she asked then still refusing to look at her.

‘The doctor said he seemed to be in distress but nothing happened while you were asleep’

‘Good’

‘Baby look at me please’ he begged then. Liz could hear the anguish in his voice, the pleading so she turned to look at him with her tearful eyes.

When Max caught sight of her face all the air was knocked from his lungs, she looked devastated and the sparkle was gone from her eyes and he couldn’t help but think that that was because of him.

Part 33

They’re eyes locked and stayed like that for what seemed like eternity.

‘Where were you?’ she cried then. She had said it so softly that Max almost hadn’t caught her words.

‘Oh baby I’m so sorry I wasn’t here’ he replied, tears now gathering in his own eyes.

‘You told me you had a meeting out of town but it didn’t sound like a meeting’

Max listened to her words and his heart sank, he knew that she had heard the girls voice though the pone at the airport but he never thought for a second that she would believe that he would be unfaithful to her.

‘I did’ he replied. He knew he should offer her an explanation but he didn’t want to spoil the plans he had made for her on Sunday.

‘Why did you hang up on me? I needed you, even if you couldn’t be here I needed to tell you what was wrong.’

‘I know baby’ he cried ‘I’m so sorry but I couldn’t hear you I wasn’t supposed to have the phone turned on at all’

‘Where were you?’ she asked him again.

‘Baby’ he begged.

‘Where were you Max?’ she asked him again her anger growing.

‘I promise you it’s not what you think Liz. But I can’t tell you yet. I promise I will tell you on Sunday if your still well enough to come out’ he explained.

‘Right now I don’t think I want to go anywhere with you’ she snapped.

Max was about to respond when Doctor Jones knocked lightly and entered the room.

‘Morning Liz, Max’ she smiled.

‘Morning’ they both replied.

‘How are you feeling this morning Liz?’

‘Um ok. I haven’t had any pains so I guess that’s good right?’

‘Yeah it certainly is. The rest of the results came back indicating that everything is normal. And the heart monitor that we kept on the baby last night indicated that the beat was strong which tell us that the babies distress may have been caused by stress Liz.’

‘So that’s good?’ Max spoke up

‘It certainly is. We’ll keep you here for another couple of hours Liz and as long as there are no further pains I don’t see any reason that you cant go home this afternoon’ she informed them.

‘Great, thank you.’ Liz replied.

‘No problem’ she replied before leaving the room again.

‘I saw the baby yesterday’ she whispered softly after a significant amount of silence.

Max’s eyes lit up ‘Really?’ he replied. He was disappointed that she had her first ultrasound without him.

‘Yeah and you were right’ she replied with a small smile, the first one Max had seen this morning.

‘Aren’t I always’ he joked ‘but about what?’

‘The night of the fashion parade, I’m 12 weeks along’

Max grinned ‘Did they, could you tell what the baby is?’ he asked then.

‘No it’s too early you cant tell that till the 19th or 20th week’ she explained.

Max nodded ‘what do you want to tell everyone. Isabel’s know about the baby and she’s agreed not to say anything but she’ll only be able to keep it a secret for so long.'

Liz shrugged and Max could tell that she had slipped back to being upset and angry with him.

‘I’m just going to call her and let her know your ok. I’ll be back in a minute’ he said then before leaving the room. He knew he had to fix things or by the time Sunday came he wouldn’t have a relationship. He was disappointed that she didn’t trust him enough but he also knew that wasn’t even the issue right now, she was hurt that he hadn’t been there when she needed him most and that he would tell her where he was.

‘Excuse me Dr’ Max said as he reached Dr. Jones.

‘Hi Max’

‘Listen I had some plans to take Liz out tonight. It’s a pretty special occasion do you think that would be ok?’

‘As long as she feels up to it, its fine’ she told him.

Max picked up his cell and dialled Izzy then.

‘Hello’ she replied sleepily and he realised it was still early.

‘Hey Iz’

‘Max is everything ok? How’s Liz’ she rambled.

‘Everything is fine. Well Liz and the baby are anyway. She should be getting out this afternoon. Listen Iz I need a favour’ he said then. He went on to explain to Isabel everything he needed he to do then to move his Sunday plans up to tonight, he even told her to recruit Maria if she couldn’t get everything done.

Part 34

Later that afternoon after being released from the hospital Liz was lying outside by the pool trying to relax like the doctor had suggested when Max wandered out.

‘Hi’ he smiled.

Liz looked up at him over the top of sunnies but ignored him. He still refused to explain to her where he was yesterday and whilst he continued to lie to her she wasn’t going to talk to him.

Max sighed, how was he going to get her to agree to go out with him tonight if she wouldn’t even talk to him?

‘I have a surprise for you’ he said then. She still hadn’t diverted her attention from her book to him though.

‘But you have to go upstairs for it to start’ he continued.

After more silence Max made a snap decision and he bent down and picked her up.

‘Max! What the hell do you think you’re doing?’ she yelled at him whilst wiggling around to get free.

‘I made plans and the only way we’re going to make them is if you get upstairs’ he told her just before he deposited her on the floor of their bedroom. ‘Now go have a shower and get dressed, I bought you something and it’s on the bed. I’ll come back to get you in an hour’ he told her before striding out of the room.

‘So what you think buying me a dress and taking me out to dinner will make the fact that you’re lying to me better?’ she snapped at him.

He turned to face her for and the smile of triumph he had from a minute earlier quickly disappeared.

‘Is that what you think I’m doing?’

She didn’t answer him though she just continued to hold his gaze; her hard stare never faulting so it was Max who was first to pull away.

‘Please get dressed beautiful I’ve had this planned for ages’ he whispered before exiting the room.

Liz sighed when the door shut and she made her way over to the bed where a garment bag was laying. She opened it gently and gasped at what she saw inside. It was one of her dresses from the store, it was white silk and one of her favourites she actually had second thoughts about putting it out to be sold. Realising that to have this dress for her Max must have had these plans made for a while so she gave in and went and had a shower.

After going through her usual ritual of washing and conditioning her hair, moisturising her body she put her hair up on top of her head with curls cascading down in places and then pulled out a tiny silk g-string to where with the dress. She applied her makeup subtly just using enough to bring out her pregnancy glow and then slipped on the dress. It fit her like a second skin but hid her protruding stomach nicely and after adding white high heel sandals and her diamond earrings she was ready.

Max knocked on the bedroom door 2 minutes later before entering. He stopped short and his mouth dropped open when he took in her appearance. ‘Wow’ he said ‘You look like an angel, beautiful’ he sighed.

Liz couldn’t help but smile at the comment and her heart screamed at her that he couldn’t be cheating on her if he looked at her that way but then her brain butted in and all the doubts returned.

‘Are you ready?’ he asked her then as he watched her emotions play on her face.

He held out his hand to her and she took it so that he could lead them out of the house. There was a limousine waiting for them and when they hopped in Max poured her a glass of sparkling mineral water.

‘Where are we going?’ she asked eventually. They had been driving for 10 minutes and she had no idea where they were headed.

‘You’ll see’ he smiled

After another half on an hour the limousine pulled up and the driver came around to open their door for them. Max helped Liz out and when she saw where they were and what he had done she gasped. They were on a cliff side of sort looking over the harbour and there was a big white umbrella set up. There was a waiter and what appeared to be a chef setting up dinner and under the umbrella there was a table bathed in candles set for two.

‘Wow’ she gasped.

‘You like it?’ he asked.

‘Max this is amazing’ she murmured.

‘Your amazing’ he replied before taking her hand. The sun was just getting ready to set and Max decided that this was the perfect time. He was going to wait till after dinner but he didn’t want anything to ruin their night and he was worried if he waited then the subject of where he was would come up again.

He gestured to the waiter and music began to play from a stereo.

‘Dinner’s not ready yet’ he told her and then offered her his other hand ‘Dance with me?’

Without hesitation Liz took his hand and let him lead her over near the umbrella and into his arms.

Max held her close to his chest and took in her beautiful scent as they swayed to the music. He was extremely nervous about her answer considering how strained things had been today.

Max pulled away then and pushed Liz out so that he could spin her around. Liz followed his lead and when she spun back round to face him he wasn’t standing there any longer he was in front of her down on bended knee.

‘Because whatever I do

I finally found someone’ he sung the final words to the song.

When the music finished and reached into his pocket and pulled out the velvet box he had been keeping there safely. He never took his eyes off her as he snapped open the box revealing the exquisite ring that he had made just for her.

‘Liz it feels like we waited a lifetime to find each other and now that I have you I never want to let you go. You are my best friend, my lover, and my soul mate and soon you’ll be the mother of my child. I love you more than words will ever be able to express. So tonight I want to ask you one question, a question that I hope will complete us both and a question that I know if you say yes to will not only make me the luckiest man in the world but the happiest as well. Elizabeth Claudia Parker, beautiful will you marry me?’

Part 35


Liz felt the tears pool in her eyes at his beautiful words. ‘Yes’ she whispered ‘of course I’ll marry you’ she said louder and then held her breath as Max slid the most beautiful ring she had ever seen onto her ring finger. The minute he stood up Liz was in his arms and sealed the happiest moment of their lives with a loving kiss.

When they pulled apart he immediately led her to a blanket with a pile of pillows and sat down before pulling her lovingly into his lap. They sat and shared sweet kisses for a while before Max spoke.

‘Roswell’ he whispered then.

‘What?’ Liz asked confused. She was still wrapped up in the moment and staring happily at the beautiful symbol of love he had put on her finer.

He nuzzled his face into her neck again. ‘I was in Roswell’ he said again. Liz turned to him quickly then.

‘Why would you go to Roswell?’

‘I went to Roswell to ask your for parents for permission to do this’ he told her.

‘Oh god’ she gasped. He had done the most romantic thing in the world for her, organising this beautiful proposal and then flying all the way to Roswell to ask her father first even when he knew that her father didn’t really approve of their relationship and she had been upset with him and ignored him almost going as far as accusing him of cheating on her.

‘I love you beautiful and I want you to know that I would never mislead you or do anything to cause you not to trust me unless it was something very important. I knew that if I told you I was going to Roswell that you would want to know why and it would eventually have ruined this moment and I didn’t want that. And even though it’s made things hard between us the last two days and that I wasn’t there when you had the scare yesterday I refuse to regret it because this moment is perfect and I know we’ll be telling our grandchildren about it someday’

‘I love you too’ she cried ‘I’m so sorry I was just so upset that I couldn’t get in contact with you. I knew in my heart that you weren’t lying to me but when you wouldn’t tell me I couldn’t help but be upset and angry. I was so afraid I was going to loose you’ she sobbed.

‘Oh baby your never going to loose me’ he replied hugging her close.

‘I promise I will never go anywhere ever again, surprise or not and turn my mobile off, except for court. You will always be able to get hold of me if you need me. My schedule will be open for you always’ he promised her then causing her to smile.

‘I’m turning into one of those obsessive girlfriends aren’t I?’ she joked.

‘Definitely not. Firstly because your not my girlfriend anymore and secondly because I love that you need me as much as I need you’ he replied.

The sound of Liz’s stomach growling caused Max to laugh ‘look like someone’s hungry’

‘Well I am eating for two you know’

‘I know and god I love it’

H helped her up and led her to the table then where they enjoyed the most beautiful meal that Liz could ever remember eating, it probably had more to do with the occasion and the company that the food itself though.

‘When do you want to get married?’ he asked her after they had finished dessert. They had moved back to the blanket and were enjoying the star filled night.

‘Straight away’ she answered with a grin ‘before I get to fat to look nice in a dress’

‘Really?’ he asked happily that had been the answer he was hoping for too.

‘Yeah. I don’t want anything big so lets just get out family and closest friends and take off to a beach somewhere and get married’ she suggested.

The sounded like heaven to Max, she would be his completely soon and then they just had to await the arrival of their baby to make their family complete.

‘What about telling everyone about the baby?’ he asked her then. Isabel already knew and she wasn’t good with secrets ‘we wont be able to hide it soon’ he continued as he ran his hand along the small bump.

Liz laughed ‘I know. I think I’m going to be huge because of my small size. Let’s do it next weekend. We’ll have a BBQ and announce all of our great news’

‘Sounds wonderful, and how about I see what nice beach I can find in the meantime so we can plan out wedding?’

‘Sounds marvellous’ she sighed. ‘I love you so much and I cant wait to be your wife’ she said then.

‘I cant wait either. Will you be Mrs Evans though?’ he asked then. He didn’t expect her to change her name considering she had built her career on being Elizabeth Parker but he liked the idea of her sharing his name.

‘Of course’ she told him ‘I think I know what I’m going to call my men’s line too’ she told him then.

‘Yeah?’

‘Evans’ she replied with a grin.

‘I like it’ he replied before he brushed her lips with his.

‘Me too’ she mumbled against his lips. The kiss turned passionate quickly and before wither knew what was happening Liz was lying on her back with Max on top of her.

‘Take me home so you can show me how much you love me Max’ she begged.

Max didn’t need to be asked twice, he lifted her into his arms and carried her to the waiting limousine knowing that everything would be taken care of by the staff he had hired to throw this thing together at the last minute. Right now his only concern was going home and making love to his fiancée.

Max carried her into the house and once he made it to the bedroom he laid Liz down in the middle of their bed before he stood back and slowly removed every piece of his clothing.

Part 37

‘Come on beautiful calm down’ Max soothed his fiancée as she cried in his arms.

‘I can’t believe that they weren’t happy’ she cried against his chest.

‘I know sweetie but that’s not important. What’s important is that this baby is going to have two sets of Aunts and Uncles who will love her or him to death and a set of parents who love each other to the ends of the earth and cant wait for him or her to get here so we can share that love with them’ Max told her.

Liz sobs quietened down at his words and eventually she pulled back to look into Max’s eyes and smiled ‘God I love you’ she grinned ‘and your right, this is the happiest time in our life and I’m not going to let them ruin it. If they don’t like it well then they can just go jump’ she finished.

‘That’s my girl’ he laughed. Liz joined him and before she knew it Max had her pinned underneath him and was kissing her passionately. Just as Liz tried to remove his shirt Max bent down and lifted her top exposing her stomach and blew a huge raspberry there causing her to break out into giggles.

‘Come on beautiful let’s go back down and talk wedding plans with out friends’ he said excitedly

When they reached downstairs they found that their parents had also joined the others inside. Max felt Liz tense instantly beside him and that was enough for him.

‘Liz is in no condition to be put under stress so if your going to continue with your little act from outside then save it and leave’ he told them.

‘Oh Lizzie we’re so sorry sweetie’ Nancy Parker rushed forward. ‘Isabel told us what happened last week, are you ok?’

Max and Liz both shot Isabel a glare ‘I’m fine now mother’ she replied coolly.

‘Max, Liz I think that we owe you an apology’ Diane started. ‘It was wrong of us to behave the way we did. Please don’t think it’s not because we aren’t happy for you because that just isn’t true. We were shocked and a little worried that things were moving so quickly in your relationship’ she explained.

Max looked from his mother to the other parents standing in the room and noticed that both his father and Nancy seemed to be in agreement with what his mother had said but that Jeff Parker still looked as though he wanted to murder him.

‘Is that how you all feel?’ Liz spoke the words he had been thinking.

‘Yes. Diane is right sweetie. We were terrible I’m sorry it was just a huge shock but I want to help you plan the wedding and I certainly want to be a grandmother’ Nancy replied before stepping forward and pulling her daughter into a hug. Liz went willingly.

‘Thank you. I know it was a shock but we’re so happy about this’ she grinned and it was easy to tell that she was.

‘Dad?’ Max asked then.

‘Congratulations’ he smiled then and stepped forward to shake his son’s hand before Diane hugged her son and then moved on to Liz.

‘Daddy?’ Liz looked over to her father then.

Jeff Parker remained quiet as he stood watching his daughter. He couldn’t deny that she looked happy and it certainly seemed as though Max Evan’s was looking after his daughter but he felt as though he was deceived when Max came to ask him permission to ask Liz to marry him. But then he remembered the words that rung through when he answered him. He wasn’t going to interfere in Liz’s life and the fact was that is he didn’t accept that her and Max were going to be parents in six months then not only would he not be in his daughters life but he wouldn’t be in his grandchild’s either and that was something that he really didn’t want.

‘Come here baby girl’ he told her before taking a step forward and waiting for her to come into his arms, which she did quickly.

‘I love you honey and I just want to see you happy. I’m sorry that I behaved that way I just don’t lie accepting the fact that my little girl isn’t so little anymore’

‘I might not be little anymore but I’ll be your little girl daddy and I will always need you and mum. I just hope that Max and I are as good a parents as the two of you have been to me’ she told him.

‘Oh honey if the way you and Max love each other is any indication of the way you’re going to love your baby then I have no doubt what so ever’ he sighed.

She really wasn’t his little girl anymore, she was a women and she belonged to Max Evans.

Liz walked into the building that Evan’s and Associates used as their offices and rode the elevator up to the top floor where Max’s office was. Her and Max were going to have lunch together before her latest Dr. appointment and she was excited to see him because she had more information on their wedding which is why she was early.

‘Good morning can I help you’ the receptionist asked as she entered the floor. The woman was fairly young, about Liz’s age she guessed with light blonde curly hair and far too much make up as far as Liz was concerned. Her blouse was buttoned too low and when she leant forward showed an obscene amount of cleavage. Liz didn’t come to the office very often but in the few times that she had she had never seen this girl before.

‘Yes I’m here to see Max Evan’s’ she replied with a small smile which faded quickly when she saw the girls eyes light up at Max’s name before she eyed Liz quickly then dismissed her.

‘Do you have an appointment?’ she asked, the pleasantries over.

‘I don’t believe I require one. Please just tell him that Liz is here’ she explained.

‘I’m sorry but Mr Evans is very busy and currently has someone with him so if you don’t have an appointment I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to leave’ she explained coolly.

‘What was your name?’ Liz asked her then.

‘Serena’ she replied ‘Now if you would excuse me I have work to do’

‘Well Serena believe me when I tell you that if you don’t let Max know that I’m here you wont have to worry about work here ever again’ she told her.

‘Oh and why’s that? You think because he took you out a few times maybe gave it to you that you can come into a place of work and demand to see him’ she bit out rudely.

Liz laughed at the comment then ‘Ooh does someone have the hots for her boss’ she laughed and watched in amusement as the girls head snapped up.

‘Oh how cute that you have a crush. I’m sure Max is flattered but I think you’ll find he’s taken honey’ she told her.

‘Oh yeah I’ve heard the rumours but I’ve also heard that she’s a snobby priss so I doubt she has what it takes to keep a man like Max interested. I on the other hand certainly do and believe me once I have him I wont let him get away’

‘Oh she does believe me!’ Liz replied smugly before fishing for her cell phone and hitting the speed dial for Max’s private number.

‘Hey beautiful’ he answered as he picked up the phone.

‘Hey yourself handsome’ she replied with a smile she made sure she stood close enough that Serena could hear every word she was saying.

‘Where are you?’ he asked her then.

‘Actually I’m out the front of your office but your skanky receptionist wont let this snobby priss in to see you’ she replied and had to hold back a laugh as she watched the girls face pale.

‘WHAT!’ Max screeched before placing the phone down and barging out of his office. Liz heard him coming before she actually saw him and she giggled before taking a step back and placing her hand on her stomach where you could see the small protruding stomach that held.

‘Someone doesn’t sound happy’ she said then in a sing song voice.

‘What the hell is going on here?’ Max roared as he made his way to Liz’s side.

‘Mr Evan’s hi’ Serena smiled ‘was there something wrong?’ she asked trying to play blonde when she was clearly not.

‘Yes. I would like to know what the hell you think you’re doing preventing my fiancée from coming to my office’ he snapped before taking Liz is his arms and kissing her forehead

‘Fiancée?’ she asked shocked.

‘Yeah that’s me’ Liz smiled before shoving her hand in the girls face showing her ring off. ‘What was it you called me again, was it prissy snob?’ she asked the girl ‘yeah it was, well I guess me being such a prissy snob and all I didn’t get the chance to tell you’

‘She called you what?’ Max roared again. By this time they had the attention of the entire office and Sandra who made her way over.

‘Is there a problem Mr Evans’ Sandra asked.

‘Yes’ Max ground out. He was barely containing his anger right now, it was only because Liz seemed to be enjoying her little confrontation with the girl that had stopped his from sacking her on the spot. He hadn’t even noticed her before but now that he got a look at her he was totally grossed out by her choice of clothing.

‘Sandra didn’t I leave strict instructions that Liz was to be allowed free range of this office and that I don’t care who the client is I am never too busy to take her calls?’ he asked.

‘Yes of course Mr Evan’s has there been a problem?’ Sandra asked confused, she had briefed all the staff on his request.

‘Yes. Not only did this girl insult Liz she was extremely rude and refused to let her through’ he advised.

‘I’m sorry Mr Evan’s, Ms Parker I’ll deal with this’ she advised.

‘Have her moved off my floor Sandra and for god sakes tell the girl that a blouse like that is not suitable if she wants to continue at Evan’s and Associates’ he replied causing Serena to blush in embarrassment.

Part 38

2 Weeks Later

‘Are you ready chica?’ Maria asked her best friend. The day of Max and Liz’s wedding had finally arrived. They were getting married on a small beach on the east coast of Australia after deciding that the best way to avoid anything being leaked to the press was to leave the country. Liz had always wanted to go to Australia and was already looking into extending her line their so they had decided to be married there before having their honeymoon and eventually a small business trip whilst they were there.

‘Yep I’ve never been more ready for anything in my life’ Liz replied with a smile. Since the only people that would be attending the wedding were close family Liz and Max had decided not to have a wedding party but rather just have their two closest friend sign at witnesses so Michael and Maria would act as that. Initially Liz thought both Maria and Isabel would be upset that she wasn’t going to have bridesmaids but both had taken the new extremely well instead choosing to focus on plans for the wedding.

Liz had designed her own wedding dress, it was nothing of the magnitude that the dress in her show was because that kind of gown wasn’t suitable for a beach wedding so in stead she had opted for a straight dress made in silk with pieces of chiffon over the skirt of the dress that gathered over her stomach to hide her small stomach where their baby was growing. It had grown in size over the past month and now she was 4 months pregnant, you wouldn’t notice it if you didn’t know though which Liz was happy about for the time being because even though she loved her baby and couldn’t wait for his or her arrival she decided she would rather it go unnoticed in her wedding photos.

She had also designed Max’s suit for the occasion after he found it impossible to find something that he liked. Liz told him he had become too picky now that he was engaged to a fashion designer, she couldn’t wait to see how good he looked in it.

Maria and Isabel were also wearing dresses that Liz had designed for them too, they were both floor length and were made to accentuate each of their individual beauty so Isabel’s was strapless and fitting in a shade of light pink and Maria’s had spaghetti straps and fell a little looser with ruffles down the bottom in a beautiful shade of aqua.

‘I can’t believe that you’re marrying my little brother today’ Isabel told her then, a couple of stray tears falling down her face. ‘Did you know that Max had a thing for you the entire way through school since he first saw you when you were eight years old?’ she laughed then. ‘Michael and I used to give him the hardest time about it but he was always too shy to go and talk to you’

‘I didn’t know that’ Liz laughed with her.

‘Make him happy Liz’ she told the small brunette in front of her who had not only come to be like a sister to her but a best friend.

‘I will do everything in my power to Isabel’ Liz replied.

‘Ok you two stop with the tears before you ruin all your makeup Lizzie and mine too’ Maria playfully scowled.

The day was bright and sunny but certainly not hot by their standards. It was close to sunset as Liz walked down the beach on her fathers arms towards her future and there was a light breeze blowing causing her to hair to blow as well.

The ceremony was short with Max and Liz exchanging their own vows in front if their parents and closest friends.

‘Liz I give this ring to you as a symbol of our love, there is no beginning and no end. I promise to love you, cherish you and respect you for you are my partner in every way and I entrust to you my heart. I make this promise to you from now until the day that I die’ Max declared before sliding the ring on Liz’s finger.

‘Max, from the second you came into my life you made it complete. I promise to love you, to cherish you and respect you because you are my partner in every way and I entrust my heart to you forever. I give you this ring, as a symbol of our love, there is no beginning and no end. I make this promise to you from now until the day I die’ Liz replied sliding Max’s ring on his finger.

The celebrant brought Michael and Maria forward then to sign the wedding certificate before announcing them husband and wife.

After the ceremony a photographer spent a half of an hour with them all taking pictures. Liz was insistent on the fact that even though they had planned a small low key wedding didn’t mean that they couldn’t still do all the traditional things as well. So they had found a highly recommended photographer so that they would have perfect pictures of one of the most perfect moments in their lives.

They went back to the hotel they were staying then where Max had arranged for a 3 course dinner for all of them as well as the cake and music that Liz wanted. The photographer returned with them so he could get some shots of them cutting and feeding each other cake as well as their first dance as husband and wife to I Shall Believe.

Max carried Liz over the threshold of their suite ‘Max’ she giggled ‘put me down I’m too heavy’

‘Don’t be silly beautiful’ he replied ‘you hardly weigh anything’. He kicked the door shut behind them and carried her straight to the king size bed in their honeymoon suite.

‘So Mrs Evan’s what do you think of the room?’ he whispered huskily against her neck.

Liz pushed him off her body and pretended to look around the room, she hopped up and walked around the bed never once taking her eyes of her husband ‘It’s a little hot in here actually’ she finally told him. Her hand went to the side of her dress then and she slowly lowered the zipper. ‘Don’t you think?’ she tasked him teasingly.

‘Yeah’ he croaked out ‘ Way too hot’ he continued huskily his eyes focused on her body when she teasingly began wiggling out of her wedding dress.

‘Did I tell you how stunning you looked today beautiful?’ he asked her then.

‘I did?’

‘Yeah you did, I loved your dress but right now I would love it even more if you would get out of it’ he growled before pouncing towards her.

‘Max’ she giggled.

‘I love you so much’ he whispered. He pulled her back against his front and kissed a trail down her neck and over her bare shoulder whilst his hands helped her slip the dress the rest of her way down her body. Once it hit the floor he picked it up and hung it carefully over the chair. He pulled of his coat and placed it there too.

‘I love you too’ she replied when he returned to her. They made quick work of removing Max’s dress shirt and slacks before moving back to the bed.

‘If I’d known this is all you had on under that dress I would have dragged you back here hours ago’ he groaned when he got his first good look at the lingerie she was wearing. It was a strapless white teddy with lace of over breasts but the rest of it was sheer material and it was a thong in the back.

‘Is that so Mr Evans’ he replied in a moan as his hands caressed her breasts.

‘Yes it is Mrs Evan’s’ he replied.

Max kissed a trail down her body until he reached the small bump on her abdomen. ‘You look so sexy pregnant with my baby’ he groaned as he peppered kisses all over it.

His words though sent a surge of desire throughout Liz’s body, the mere fact he thought she looked sexy pregnant was almost enough to send her over the edge.

‘Max please’ she moaned then.

‘Please what beautiful?’ he asked looking up at her through hooded eyes.

They had all spent a week in Australia sight seeing with Max and Liz, or rather sight seeing why Max and Liz were busy doing their own personal sight seeing in their hotel suite but now it was time for them all to return to New York. Philip, Diane, Jeff and Nancy had flown out the day before because they were unable to all get a flight home at the same time so after today everyone would have left with the exception oft Max and Liz who’s honeymoon was just beginning. They still had 3 weeks left to sight see and travel before a small business trip in Sydney the day before their flight home.

‘Oh come on Maria they’ll be back in a few weeks’ Alex laughed as he watched his best friend hold onto their other best friend like she was never going to see her again.

‘Yes exactly Alex 3 very long weeks I don’t think Liz and I have been apart for that long since Liz went to college’

‘Yeah and you survived that Blondie’ Michael replied with a grin.

‘I’ll miss you too Ria’ Liz lied.

‘Liar’ Maria called her on it ‘I doubt that moondoggie over there will give you the chance too’ she said causing Max to blush.

‘Yeah well giget here can hold her own’ Max added then earning himself a smack from Liz.

‘Flight 3500 to New York is now boarding at Gate 25’ the announcement said.

‘Thanks for coming guys’ Liz said then as they made their way towards the gate. She was sad to see them leave but she couldn’t wait to start her honeymoon without any interruptions from anyone.

After they boarded the flight Max and Liz left the airport hand in hand.

‘So Mrs Evans what would you like to do now’ he smiled.

‘Take me back to the hotel moondoggie’ she grinned.

Part 39

4 Months Later

Liz plonked down on to the bed and kicked her shoes of and then sighed in relief. She had been on her feet all day preparing and putting the finishing touches on Isabel’s gowns for the spread in Vogue that she was doing.

In the past she wouldn’t have worried about it she would have loved every second of doing it but when your 7 months pregnant and feeling like a beached whale standing on your feet all day is the last thing you wanted to do.

Looking at the clock she realised it was quite late, 7pm, and she wondered where Max was. They had been married for 4 glorious months now and she couldn’t have been happier.

Their honeymoon had been wonderful, relaxing with loads of sight seeing and tones of lovemaking and it was just what the Doctor ordered for both of them after the stress they had endured during the previous month. Australia has been completely breath taking everywhere they went had been beautiful the beaches were completely different to those in the states. Max had already promised to bring her back for their first wedding anniversary.

The business trip had also gone very well over there too with one of the major department stores very keen to stock some of Liz’s lines but after discussing it with Max Liz had decided to hold off on extending the line into Australia until after the baby was born and she had the chance to decide what she was going to do.

Liz didn’t want to give up work she knew that but she also knew that she didn’t want someone else raising her baby, she wanted to be able to stay at home and enjoy mother hood so Max had suggested that they turn one of the larger bedrooms downstairs into a studio for her so that she could work at home most of the time. Liz also decided to let Maria have more of an active role in the store allowing her to be able to step away from Uptown Gal that way she wouldn’t have to worry about travelling into the shop either.

Maria had shown herself to be reliable and good at her job and Liz knew that she deserved it. All that she needed to do was sit down and work out the details with Maria and for Liz to organise someone else to do the books. Alex was finding himself more and more busy with his masters and work, and now there was his relationship with Isabel too he was finding it more and more difficult finding the time to get the books done.

Alex and Isabel had finally gave in and started to date, everyone was more than aware that they were already having a fling but now it was a little more serious. They still wanted to keep it from the media because Isabel didn’t want paparazzi chasing her and Alex around and so far they had managed to do so without it cramping their life or their ability to go out when and where they wanted too.

One thing about marriage Liz loved was that there was always someone to share the load with. Max was a great sounding board and always had great ideas to make things better for the business and had already recommended a great person to take over the accounting part of Liz’ s business. She loved being able to come home and share everything with him, and loved it when he would come home and share things with her. He wasn’t just a wonderful husband he was the perfect partner.

Liz was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn’t hear Max get home or enter the bedroom. He smiled at the sight of his very pregnant wife sprawled out over the bed and once again was glad that he had brought home take out for tonight. He had been caught up in a meeting and knew by the time he got home it would be late and Liz was usually too tired to stand in the kitchen and cook.

He kicked off his shoes then and climbed on the bed beside her.

‘Hi’ she smiled when she rolled over and saw him, she felt the bed dip and realised he was home.

‘Hi beautiful’ he smiled his hand reaching out to caress their child whilst he leaned forward to giver he a sweet kiss.

‘How was you day?’ he asked her then she looked absolutely exhausted.

‘Exhausting’ she groaned confirming his thoughts.

‘Baby you cant keep wearing yourself out like this it’s not good for you. How’s your sugar today?’ he asked her concerned.

‘It’s good but I’m hungry’ she smiled sheepishly.

Max laughed ‘Well it’s a good thing I stopped off and bought your favourite Chinese and ice-cream then isn’t it?’

‘Oh I love you’ she squealed.

‘I love you too beautiful’ he replied. ‘But I’m serious about work, will you consider finishing up until after the baby is born once your done with Isabel’s spread?’ he asked her.

Liz thought about what he said. By the end of the week she would be finished all the dresses and Isabel’s shoot was next week. Max was right she was exhausted and she felt like she could sleep for weeks plus there was still so much shopping that she hadn’t yet completed as well as getting the nursery sorted out.

‘Yes after this week and Iz’s shoot I’m done’ she smiled.

‘Really?’ he replied

‘Really, now would you do your pregnant wife a favour and feed her’ she grinned.

‘Come here Mrs Evans’ he laughed before scooping her up into his arms and carrying her down stairs.

Everything with Isabel’s shoot had gone perfectly and now Liz had finished work completely until the baby was born so Maria was dragging her out shopping for the morning. Liz didn’t really want to go she just wanted to stay home and sleep and then maybe do some stuff in the nursery.

They had selected the room right next to them for the nursery and had painted it a light yellow with a sesame street theme. Liz absolutely loved both Elmo and the Cookie Monster and she thought it would be cute to use them in the room.

‘I just need to go to the toilet one more time before we go’ she told Maria as she wobbled down the stairs.

Maria couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of her best friend, she was close to 8 months now and Maria couldn’t believe how big she was. At one stage she had even asked Liz if she was having twins but apparently the Doctor had assured them they were only having one baby and that Liz’s size was mostly because she was so petite.

‘Ok chica’ Maria was taking Liz shopping to get her out of the house. Isabel and her had decided to throw Liz a surprise baby shower and right now Isabel, Diane and Nancy who Isabel had flown in were waiting down the road for Maria and Liz to leave so they could come in and set everything up. Maria’s job was to keep Liz out for a few hours and she figured.

After another trip to the toilet Liz was ready so her and Maria headed out. They went to an assortment of stores that Maria wanted to buy some things at before they headed to the baby store. Liz got some of the things that she had needed to get and even found some cute little jumper suits that she couldn’t resist. Her and Max had gone together a few months ago to buy most of the big things that they needed like the pram and cot. As they were just about to head to the checkout though Liz stopped when she saw the baby monitors, her and Max hadn’t picked one up yet and they really needed to she thought.

‘Come on Liz’ Maria said when she saw where she stopped. Her and Michael had already bought the monitor that Max had told them he and Liz had talked about getting so she had to try and stop her from buying one right now.

‘Hold on Maria I think I should pick one of these up. Who knew when this little one will arrive’ she replied.

‘Don’t you think Max would want to be with you when you buy that’ Maria suggested hoping that it would convince her to hold off.

‘I’ll just ring him’ she smiled. Maria looked at her watch then she knew that she could return with Liz soon that most people would have arrived now so all she needed to worry about right now was getting Liz out of the store without buying a baby monitor.

‘Honey can we come back tomorrow or something I really need to get going’ she told her then.

‘Oh ok’ Liz replied ‘Your right Max will want to be here so I’ll just get him to come with me later’ she replied. Max had to go into the office that day for something and then he was catching up with Michael to shoot some hoops. She had wanted to ask him to take her shopping but she knew he didn’t get much time with Michael anymore and to wind down and it would be even less soon so she didn’t say anything.

‘Ok lets pay and get out of here’ Maria smiled then.

It’s time to get to your baby shower she thought.

Part 40

‘SURPRISE!’ they all yelled at Maria and Liz as they entered Liz and Max’s house.

‘oh god’ Liz jumped in fright. She looked around then and noticed that their living room had been decorated with lots of blue and pink balloons and there standing in front of her with a big dummy balloon was Isabel, Diane and her Mum and behind them tonnes of friends that she had met in the industry as well as friends from uni.

‘Hey you ok?’ her mum stepped forward and asked she was a little concerned that they might have frightened Liz is a bad way rather than surprising her.

Liz smiled ‘Yeah you just surprised me. A lot’ he told them before stepping forward and giving her mum a big hug.

Their parents had come a long way from the day they announced Liz’s pregnancy. Liz thought initially that they only apologised because they didn’t want to be cut out of Max and Liz’s life but they had all proved that wasn’t just the case. Both Nancy and Diane rang with helpful advice all the time or just to check in on how the Doctors appointments were going and had also offered to come and stay with them when she came home from hospital.

Liz and Max were ecstatic that everyone was now as excited as they were but the fact was they didn’t want someone coming and taking over their lives they wanted to learn to take care of their child by themselves.

So they had refused both offers although had still extended the invitation to Nancy and Jeff to come and stay with them in New York closer to Liz’s due date and Maria and Michael had agreed to let them stay at the apartment in town so that Max and Liz would still have their privacy.

Liz walked around and greeted everyone then and they all enjoyed the lunch that Isabel had organised for them all before they played some games.

The games included guessing how big Liz’s stomach actually was, and not surprisingly Maria had won and Isabel accused her of cheating when Liz laughed and commented that she had wondered what was up with Maria wanting to hug her all morning. They also played a handful of other fun games and before Liz knew it, it was time to open all the beautiful gifts.

Her parents bought her a cradle and Max’s parents bought them a car seat. Two important items that Max hadn’t let her buy yet and now she realised why.

‘I’m going to have a talk with my husband about keeping secrets’ she joked.

‘Well this is what we wanted to do so he had to stop you from buying them some way or another’ Dianne replied.

Just when she thought she couldn’t have anything else with the bundles of clothes and supplies her wonderful friends and family had given her Maria and Isabel placed two more presents in front of her. Liz laughed when she opened the present from Maria and Michael and saw the baby monitor she had wanted to buy that morning and she couldn’t believe it when she opened the gift from Isabel and Alex and found the high chair she was intending on making Max let her buy as well.

‘What did Max do? She laughed ‘circle catalogues for you guys’

‘Pretty much’ Maria grinned.

‘You’re very lucky to have such an attentive husband Liz’ one of her friend Natalie from college said then ‘Yeah my husband tunes out the minute I mention shopping’ one of the other girls laughed.

Liz smiled then she already knew how lucky she was to have Max ‘Yeah I am extremely blessed’ she grinned.

Max entered the house with trepidation he was expecting it to look like a bomb had hit it considering there were about 20 women in their all afternoon but surprisingly it looked like it had when he had left early that morning.

He had a great afternoon shooting hoops with Michael, something that they hadn’t done in so long now.

‘Well look what the cat dragged in’ Liz said as she approached her husband. She had decided to get a little pay back on her husband so after everyone had helped her clean up and the last person had left she had put on the only sexy nightie she had that fit her, thew a silk robe over the top and waited on the couch for him to come home.
