I will neither confirm nor deny anything what could have happened in the last part. It could have been a mindwarp, but it could just as easily be that Liz and Sark could have actually died. Remember, I'm evil like that.

BTW, did anyone recognize where the chase was? I'll give you a hint, think first season and jumping off of bridges.

PART 31

Although the fire had been extinguished and the bodies removed to be taken to the coroner’s office, Sydney had not left her spot on the bridge above. Instead she simply watched as the other agents and local law enforcement picked through the remains of the jeep. After the explosion, Sydney had struggled against Vaughn’s hold on her to go down to the jeep. He didn’t want her to get hurt however she had to at least check to see if Sark and Liz were still alive. But the fire was burning too hot and she wasn’t able to get close enough.

The ambulance and other emergency teams were on the scene within minutes, the firemen quickly put out the flames but it was evident that the occupants of the vehicle were dead. All that was left was for them to extract the bodies and take them into the morgue to be positively identified. Half a dozen people had seen Liz and Sark in the jeep, but the CIA still demanded that confirmation be made.

Vaughn had offered to call Kendall and inform him of the outcome of their mission and Sydney took him up on it. After watching the crash, she just didn’t have the stomach for listening to Kendall’s delight over Sark’s death. So instead she called her father to break the news to him. He had reacted like she knew he would, in a formal, detached manner like always but Sydney knew that deep down, the news that his only son was mostly likely dead had hurt him. He had informed her that they would get together when she returned to Los Angeles but in the mean time, he was going to visit her mother and notify her of the news.

Ever since she had hung up from the phone call with her father a few hours ago, Sydney had remained on the bridge where she had watched the removal of her good friend and her brother earlier. She should have been at the morgue waiting for verification of the identities but instead she had sent Weiss in her place. He would notify her or Vaughn as soon as there was word. Both Vaughn and Weiss seemed to understand that she needed the time to reflect on what had happened and had given it to her.

How had things gotten so out of control that Liz and Sark was dead? This was not what she had intended to happen, they were just supposed to be taken into custody, then once they were imprisoned, the two would work out some arrangement to get their sentences reduced in exchange for information. Instead Sydney had lead a team of agents to chase them down and caused the accident that killed them.

A part of her, even though she had witnessed in with her own eyes, had not accepted that Liz, her former partner and good friend and Sark…Julian her enemy for so long and estranged younger brother were both dead. Sydney knew it was the part of her brain that compartmentalized the things that she had to deal with in her work and life, a defense for her emotional health. It would allow her to push her grief away until she was back home, alone or with Vaughn where she could mourn.

Some people might find it strange that Sydney would mourn for Julian, they had not grown up together nor had they ever had the time to bond and create a special sibling relationship but he was still her brother. They still had the same blood flowing through their veins. The fact that they had been denied the right to have a normal childhood together was just the cruel price of the lives their parents’ had chose to live.

Sydney was so lost in her thoughts that she barely heard the ringing of her cell phone. She pulled it out quickly and saw that it was her father. “Hey Dad, I wasn’t expecting you to call so soon, I thought you were going to see Mom.”

“Hello Sydney, and I did go to visit your mother. However when I arrived, I discovered that she was gone.”

“Gone? What do you mean gone? Where did the agency take her and why weren’t we informed?” Sydney asked confused.

“We were not informed because the agency were not involved with her departure. Somehow she escaped the agencies surveillance and security and escaped. The agents assigned to her have been searching the grounds for her, they claimed that they had tried to contact me but were unable to reach me. It wasn’t until I arrived that I found out.” Her father informed her, she could tell by his tone that he was barely able to keep the anger from boiling over.

“She must have been planning to meet up with Sark and Liz when they left Roswell.” Sydney commented. “I know that Mom and Sark were contact with each other. They must have been planning it for some time, I think she tried to tell me goodbye on our last visit. I just didn’t realize it at the time. Dad, she’ll be expecting to meet them and they’re not going to be there.”

“Her mother has always been skilled at collecting information, it will not be long before she finds out about your brother and Liz.” Jack stated. “Has there been any word yet on the results of the DNA?”

“No, not yet.” Sydney answered.

“I am going to finish things here and contact you later.” Her father said before disconnecting the call. Sydney closed her phone and tucked it back into her pocket.

Out of the corner of her eye, Sydney saw Vaughn approaching her, the phone still in his hand and a somber look on his face. He waited until he was right next to her before he said anything. “Weiss just called. The analysis of the bodies is complete. On account of the fact that the CIA still had DNA records for both Liz Parker and Sark, they were able to make speedy comparisons. The DNA tests confirm that the bodies pulled out of the jeep were Liz and Sark.”

Sydney felt tears stinging her eyes as his words sunk in. Vaughn pulled her close into his arms and hugged her. “I’m sorry Sydney, I’m sorry.”

“I know.” Sydney declared as she buried her face in his shoulder. As they stood there, Sydney thought about the day so long ago when her father had told her that her mother had died in a car accident. It had been a ruse but the twist of fate that it was how Sark would die was ironic. While she would rather stay there with Vaughn in his arms, Sydney knew that she couldn’t. She had things to clean up and then go back to Los Angeles and push on.

EPILOGUE

Eighteen months later

As she approached the front door, Sydney reached over and hit the button for the doorbell. She knew that with most people, they didn’t ring the bell when visiting their parents but simply walked in. However that wasn’t a prudent thing to do with her father, it was a good thing to surprise him.

Despite the fact that they worked together, the two of them rarely spent any personal time together so over the past year and a half they had made the deal to meet for dinner at least once every two weeks. It had been Sydney’s idea, a way to atone for lost time and to keep close to the family she had left. The CIA had received no reports that Irina Derevko had resurrected her old organization. As a matter of fact, all evidence seemed to show that she was in retirement.

As for Irina contacting her family, there had been half a dozen or more occasions where they had communicated. It had started first with trinkets filled with hidden meanings and had gradually worked their way to coded messages. They had not arranged visits, knowing that the risks were dangerous but in each message that her mother sent there was an open invitation to either Jack or Sydney for them to join her.

Sydney had contemplated leaving and going to her mother, her tolerance of the CIA and their methods had distorted her sense of duty but her relationship with Vaughn kept her in Los Angeles. He would never go with her, it was one thing to date the daughter of the woman who killed his father, but it was another thing entirely to be in constant contact with Irina Derevko without her being in a prison cell. It was one of the barriers that still stood between them, one of the ones she wasn’t sure they would ever overcome. Perhaps it was part of the reason they were still not married after almost four years together.

Her father answered the door without delay and ushered Sydney inside. “Come in Sydney, I am glad that you could join me on such short notice.”

“You sounded so avid on the phone that we have dinner tonight that I couldn’t say no. Vaughn was working late so it wasn’t hard for me to free myself.” Sydney stated as she took the proffered seat her dad pulled out for her.

The dinner was pleasant, both the cuisine and conversation were enjoyable but Sydney could tell that her father was keeping something from her. Something he was waiting to tell her when he found the appropriate timing, instead she decided to bring it up herself. “Okay, while I’m enjoying this dinner, why don’t you tell me the reason that you called me here?”

The side of Jack’s mouth twitched a little at Sydney’s perceptiveness but that didn’t stop him from rising and retreating into the rear of his condo. Sydney heard the faint sounds of what she determined to her father opening a safe before he reappeared in the dining room with a sleek black folder.

“Through several private connections of mine, I received a tip of that your mother had been spotted in Buenos Aires just over a week ago.” Jack informed Sydney.

“Why didn’t you tell me? I would have left immediately to check it out.” Sydney asked. “I’ll talk to Kendall right away and tell him that I’m going to take a few days personal time.”

“There is no need for that, I already verified the authenticity of the information.” Jack declared. “She is indeed in Buenos Aires where she is presently retaining a yacht.”

“You saw her? Did you talk to her?” Sydney asked.

“No, once I located her and observed her for a bit, I did not feel it was wise to approach her. I felt that if I made my presence known, she would have disappeared again without delay.” Jack explained before handing her the folder. “And I believe once you review the contents of that folder, you will agree with my assessment.”

Sydney stared at him oddly for an instant before picking up the folder and opening it. Inside were several eight by ten-color photos; the first one was a profile of a woman that Sydney knew could no one else but her mother. She was reclining on a sun lounger, the sun shining and reflecting from the water created the perfect lighting to compliment her. The next few pictures were similar ones, her mother in various positions on different parts of the deck but it was the photographs after that that made Sydney gasp.

Sydney couldn’t help but stare at the picture, and it’s subjects as if it would disappear in her hands. She had never seen him look so relaxed and laid-back. Gone was the sophisticated businessman with the Armani suit and in his place was a carefree man who looked to be enjoying a holiday. His skin was healthy and tan, displayed by the open buttoned down collar of his white shirt and rolled up khaki’s. His blonde hair shone brightly in the sun but paled in comparison to the light in his eyes as he gazed at the woman in his arms.

The woman wore a flimsy bright yellow tank and Capri’s, her hair braided back into a long French braid with wisps falling out and framing her tanned face. The photo had caught her in mid laugh, her face alighted with amusement. She looked beautiful, they both did and very much alive.

Sydney pulled her eyes away from the picture to look at her dad. “I can’t believe it, Liz and Julian are alive? How is that possible? The tests were conclusive that the bodies we pulled out of the jeep matched their DNA.”

“How they arranged such a deception is beyond my knowledge but yes, they are very much alive. It seems that they faked their deaths then proceeded to meet up with your mother. I also do not know if your mother was previously aware of their plans when she made her escape or if it was later development. All three have since appeared to live their lives in retirement.”

“I don’t understand, the three of them could do a lot of damage.” Sydney acknowledged.

“Perhaps if you look at the remainder of the photos, you will understand.” Jack declared.

Momentarily confused, Sydney did what her father asked and flipped to the next picture. The same subjects were once again in the picture with the addition of one smaller one. The picture depicted Liz leaning against the rail of the yacht, again gazing at Sark only this time, Sark’s attention was not on her. It was on the small child who he was swinging in his arms above his head. The following picture was even closer up and Sydney could see more details. The child, a little girl if she wasn’t mistaken, looked to be close to a year old, with dark hair curling around her angelic little face. “Liz and Sark have a child?”

Jack nodded. “Julia, according to some information I gathered they call her Jules.”

Sydney flipped through the remaining pictures, one of Sark, Liz and Jules, the small child sandwiched between them as they embraced, a picture of her own mother and Jules and two more group pictures except these included two additional men and women. Sydney recognized them as Liz’s friends, Alex Whitman, Isabel Evans, and Maria and Michael Guerin. It explained a little more about how Liz and Sark were able to fake their deaths, they had help. “This explains a lot, like the sudden reappearance of many of the missing Rambaldi artifacts that Sark stole although not why they were damaged beyond restoration.”

“I believe I have an answer in regards to that.” Jack declared. “I believe that he intentionally damaged them so severely to protect you. Sark is well aware of the prophecy that you are supposedly a part of and if they are of no use, then your safety in certain.”

Sydney had to admit that it sounded possible but didn’t know if it was true so she changed the subject. “Dad, what are you going to do with these pictures? You aren’t going to turn them over to Kendall are you?”

“I have no intention of revealing any information to Kendall and I hope that you will not either. I thought that you should have knowledge of the information I discovered. What you do with that information is up to you.” Jack stated.

“The CIA will never hear anything from me.” Sydney declared.

“Then I also wanted to tell you that I intend to retire from the agency within a month and when I do, I plan to join your mother and Julian.”

His statement did not surprise Sydney, she knew that her father had been dissatisfied with his job at the CIA as of late and knew he would be leaving soon. It seemed only fitting that he go to be with her mother and brother. She felt angry at Sark and Liz for faking their deaths but her anger was released by the elation she felt that they were alive. Because of the history with her mother, Sydney had always held the belief that they could have still been alive but the evidence had been too damning to say otherwise. Now that she knew that they had somehow lived, she didn’t feel as abandoned as she had before.

Sydney saw her father watching her closely, waiting for a response. She simply smiled before holding the pictures over the candles that were illuminating the room. The pictures caught the flame easily and burned quickly. No one would ever get their hands on them. As she dropped the burning mess into the sink, Sydney looked back at her father, “Maybe just maybe some day I’ll join you. When the time is right.”

Jack nodded in acceptance. “You know that we’ll be waiting.”

“I know.” Sydney replied before picking up her wine glass, draining it before holding it out for a refill. After this night, she needed it.

THE END

Here's the last part. I'm not sure exactly what you would call it, a second Epilogue? An add-on? A deleted scene? Whatever it is, it's a scene that I had to have in the story but wasn't sure where it could go. I mean there is an obvious place but if I put it there, it would mess up the Sydney's POV parts that I had at the end and tell you that Sark and Liz were alive before I wanted to. Anyway, here it is.

EPILOGUE-DELETED SCENE-ADD ON

“There is nothing to be nervous about.” Sark commented as he watched Elizabeth fidget with her hair and clothes. But despite his words, he thought her restlessness was endearing. He knew her to have faced many stressful situations yet when they were of a personal nature, she forgot all of her training.

“That’s easy for you to say, you’re not the one in the spotlight here.” Liz retorted. “You never get the chance to make a first impression and I have to make a good impression.”

“Elizabeth, it is only a meeting with my mother.” Sark reminded her.

“Well she might not be to you but she is very intimidating and daunting to most people.” Liz rationalized. “Not only is she your mother, and therefore protective of her son that she would probably never find any woman good enough for you but she is Irina Derevko. Her reputation as a cunning, shrewd, highly intelligent woman who has not only managed one of the world’s superior network of spies but also a very skilled spy herself proceeds her and that makes me a little nervous.”

Sark smirked at her before kissing her lightly and saying. “You do not need to worry, Irina will meet you and immediately see what attracts me so much to you. Your combination of beauty, intelligence, elegance and strength, not to mention your own skill as an operative just to list a few of your qualities. And your relationship with both Sydney and myself speaks highly of you.”

“Yeah, well we’ll wait and see about that.” Liz commented as she took another sip of her water. Her stomach felt so queasy that she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to keep anything else but the water down. Whether it was morning sickness or nervousness she wasn’t sure. Things were so chaotic after the funeral that it had taken Liz two weeks to realize she was late for her period. Arranging for one’s death took a lot of work.

When Liz had received Alex’s phone call, her and Sark had discussed how best to deal with the CIA when he concocted a plan to remove them from the radar permanently. After all Liz had just voiced her desire to leave their work for good and Sark saw this newest development as an opportunity to grant her that wish.

Taking a queue from his mother, Sark proposed that they arrange for the CIA to pursue them, and then coordinate the variables in a way that would cause an accident that would make the CIA believe that they were killed in the catastrophe. He designed a complicated plan of how to achieve just that. But when he was finished, Liz had a better one that took advantage of some extra assistance that they had at their disposal.

After telling Max, Michael, Tess and Maria the plan to fake their deaths, Liz went about explaining how they needed their help to pull it off so that the CIA believed them. It took some convincing but in the end, Liz showed them that although it would broadcast their powers to an extent, no one would actually see them using them. So they agreed and they began the integral parts of the plan to get it moving. It would take precise planning, down to the minute or things would not work.

The plan started with a trip to the morgue. Liz remembered years ago when Pierce’s bones were found and Max had used his powers to age them so she came up with the idea of having him change two of the unidentified bodies to match DNA with Liz and Sark’s. It was grotesque and morbid but necessary. Once they got to the morgue, Liz went with Max to gather the bodies while Sark altered the records so there was no record of the bodies and Tess changed the memories of the morgue attendants. Then they moved onto their other plans.

The aliens and Maria got into their positions while Liz and Sark drove past the agents to catch their attention and started the chase. Liz knew that the terrain around the area where they had run from the Special Unit would be best. For one, it wasn’t flat and would help with provide cover and secondly, they knew the area from the road to the bridge over the ravine that her and Max had once jumped off of.

After getting the agents to chase them, Liz and Sark drove right to hills. However it was a surprise when the agents rear-ended them. But Liz took advantage of it to hit them again, an effort to slow the vehicle down so that the agents would think they were going to get away and open fire. It took them a little bit of time but came through in the end right before they reached the bridge.

While it looked as if a bullet was the cause of the blowout of the tire, it was actually a well-placed blast from Michael who was hiding in the bushes nearby. And as the jeep careened off the road and towards the ravine, Liz and Sark jumped out of the out of control vehicle and rolled away while Tess mindwarped the CIA including Sydney into not seeing them but thinking that they were still in the jeep.

Liz and Sark scrambled to safety while the jeep plunged into the ravine and they had just gotten to where the others were hidden when it exploded. They watched for a few more minutes as Vaughn held Sydney back from the flames, Liz feeling regret at having to fool her as well before they left before being discovered. Through Valenti, they learned that their effort worked and their ruse was believed. The bodies proved to the CIA that her and Sark were dead and the hunt for them ended.

Despite the level of safety that blanketed them, they decided that it was best to leave Roswell as soon as possible. Despite the ‘retirement’ they were going to go into, Alex insisted on going with them back to Italy and surprisingly, Maria and Michael expressed the desire to go as well. However it was a little more difficult for them to leave then it was Alex so they arranged for them to visit, a visit that would happen soon. But for now, Liz had to concentrate on meeting Irina.

Sark waited until they were back in Italy before contacting his mother. Liz had known that before her own mother had died that Sark had been in contact with his and helping to plan her break out of the CIA residence that she was residing in. Irina had decided that she had been in custody for too long and had reconnected with Jack and Sydney enough to ensure a continued relationship so she thought it was time to leave.

It was a fluke that she chose the day that she did to seek her freedom. By the time they had talked, Irina had heard the reports of the their death and was relieved that they were not so they arranged to meet at a small outdoor restaurant in Johannesburg today. Liz felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise up and knew what it meant, she was being watched. She raised her gaze from the table to look around and caught sight of Irina across the seating area from them and her anxiety doubled.

As the older woman walked towards them, Liz suddenly had a flash of memory of the first time she met Sark over two years ago. Elegance surrounded Irina, not to mention beauty and grace but there was also a dangerous air that surrounded her that her son no doubt inherited.

Liz and Sark both stood at her approach but Sark stepped forward first to greet her. “Priwjet, mat.”

“Priwjet, Julian. It is good to see you.” Irina acknowledged as she leaned forward and gave him a small kiss on his cheek.

Sark backed away from his mother when she released him and turned to his lover. “May I introduce to Elizabeth Parker?”

Irina smiled politely at Liz but she knew the woman was evaluating her, she had been since the moment she had caught sight of her. So Liz did what she could to mask her nervousness, not wanting to show any weakness in front of such a strong woman, as she held out her hand in greeting. “It is a pleasure to meet you Ms. Derevko.”

“As it is to meet you.” Irina replied before looking to Sark. “Julian, would you excuse us? I would like to get to know the woman who has captured your attentions better.”

While Liz was sure her eyes begged for Sark to stay, she did not voice that wish and instead watched as he nodded. “I shall take my leave then and will wait at the bar.”

Sark left them then and Irina motioned for Liz to sit. She did so and as soon as the two sat down, Irina spoke. “I have heard a great many things about you, both from my daughter and my son and I must say that my curiosity you has been peaked for a long time.”

“And I as well.” Liz concurred. “This meeting has been delayed for too long.”

“A circumstance that could not be avoided but has been remedied.” Irina stated as a waiter approached her and she ordered. The waiter asked Liz if she wanted anything more but she declined and chose to stick with her water.

After he was gone, Liz felt Irina’s eyes on her again and saw a small smiled grace her features. Feeling bold, Liz asked. “Have I done something to amuse you?”

“I was just speculating how soon I am to be a grandmother.” Irina replied.

Liz’s expression faltered a little as surprise hit her. “I have always heard that you had a way finding out even the most guarded of information, as if you could read people’s minds.”

“Not their minds, just their actions and the situation surrounding them. Your request to the waiter to continue with solely water was just the final clue.” Irina explained. “I shall have to chastise Julian for not telling me sooner.”

“He wanted to wait until he spoke to you in person. It was an unexpected surprise.” Liz stated. “One I hope you will be as happy about as us.”

“I am.” Irina answered. “Julian would not be involved with a woman of low intelligence, not for any significant length of time that is. He would only accept a woman that was his equal, in all aspects of his life. And Sydney thought very highly of you, both when you were her partner and after. And based on the judgments of my children and my own small amount of time with you, I can not think of another woman that would compliment our family any more than you.”

Liz did all that she could not to let her mouth drop open but couldn’t hold back her surprise. “Wow, I never expected to hear such a compliment.”

“Despite what you may have heard, I do have emotions especially in regards to my children, which you have now witnessed yourself.” Irina responded before motioning to Sark. “Something else you must know is that I am exceptionally protective of my children and am capable of doing what I deem suitable for retribution of any crimes carried out against them.”

Liz heard the veiled threat under her words and nodded. “I feel the same way about Sark and our child.”

“Then we understand each other.” Irina said as she raised her glass to Liz. “I believe we are going to be great friends.”

“I can only hope.” Liz declared as she clinked her glass against Irina’s. Sark must have taken the activity as a signal to return because he suddenly appeared in the seat beside Liz to join them.

“It seems the two of you are getting along.” Sark commented.

“Indeed.” Irina agreed before smiling. “So tell me, now that the CIA are no longer hunting for you, what are your plans?”

“Well we were thinking that Buenos Aires is a beautiful, discreet place to live.” Sark stated.

THE END

Well this is the end to my ‘Agent’ Liz story. I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did writing it. Some people probably think I’m nuts with some of the guys I fix up with Liz but I hope that I do it in a convincing enough way that others like it too.

I’m sure some of you are wondering if I have any other stories in the works, and yes I do. Actually several but only so much time. I am actively working on two. I don’t see me posting them soon but I’m going to work on them as hard as I can before my baby is born so that I can finish them.

The one that I am most actively working on is yet another Sark/Liz story however it is a complete one eighty compared to this one. It is a much much much darker one then this one. But will have a very confident Liz in it. The story came from an idea for a short fic that would have had maybe two parts to it and grew from there. I hope you’ll all check it out when I post it, whenever that happens to be. But until then, thank you so much or reading this and sharing in the story my depraved mind came up with.
