"I'm sure I can get Max to go out with me" I say with a smirk. Not letting him know that I had already made plans with Max to go to the movies on Saturday.

I sigh.
"I'll see if I can get Liz to come. I seriously don't think I'm going to be able to get you out of this Maxwell." Truth is I don't want to get out of this. How the hell am I going to explain this to Max though?

"Oh yeah?" I raise an eyebrow. "You weren't that sure this morning. Besides, you don't have to actually get him to go. The point was doing it in front of everyone at the Crashdown, not knowing what he's gonna say. Especially, now that he knows." I grin at her sideways.

I nod, at Kyle's doomed promise to try and get Tess to let Liz come along. "Maybe I could just ask her," I suggest. "It's supposed to be a group thing, right? She might come." Unless she has to work on Friday. Knowing my luck, I'll bet she does.
Kyle shakes his head. "What makes you think she'd want to go with you?" He asks.
I shrug. "It wouldn't be just me. It's a group," I say again. "It wouldn't hurt to ask." I glance over at her table again and see that she's looking in my direction too. I find myself grinning at her before remembering that I need to be discrete - for the sake of her secret. With an effort, I blank my face and resume my usual expression of distant longing. I can't wait to get a chance to really talk to her....

I look at my best friend in suprise and suspicion. She is just way to excitedand eager about the bet. Just this morning she was nervous and now it seems like she can't wait. What is going on here?
I narrow my eyes at her and ask, "Liz...you're acting just way too calm about this. Is there something we should know?"

Wait a second. Did Liz just smirk at me? She never smirks. Something is definately up. "I thought you told us last night that you were already completely positive about him. Why did you need to check?" I ask.
It's a dumb question, but I'm just playing along for a moment, trying to figure out what's really going on.

"Interesting, yeah," I agree with Kyle. "Who do you think would most mad about it, Tess or Serena?" I smile, but it's not really a joke. They'd both be furious if she showed up, but I'm guessing they'd be all polite while she was there and then slam me as soon as she was out of ear-shot. Still, I can't help but think that I'm gonna ask her, anyway. Just in case she is available.

Ummm.... How about if we skip ahead a little? Get up to the stuff in the crashdown? Doing it instead of just talking about it? On the way, I want to do a short thing - hope it sounds okay.

As lunch period ends, I try to get a chance to walk with Liz but she's heading in the other direction and I have gym next with Kyle.
I sigh, sorry to have missed a chance to talk to my Liz. after all those years of wishing she would notice me, she now actually talks to me. She saved my life. She even asked me out, even if it was for a dare... I probably should have left her off the hook, but I couldn't help it. I couldn't pass it up.
I go into the locker room with Kyle to get changed. My locker isn't far from Kyle's and he's trying to turn the subject away from Liz and Tess. Something about the game we'd watched together last night. Kyle never answered my question about Tess yesterday. I mean, I guess she's not a bad person or anything. It's just that she's not Liz and I'm not interested. Shaking my head to clear those thoughts, I open my locker and pull out my gym uniform.
At least Kyle's not acting strange around me now that I know about him. Everything still seems really normal. I'm glad he's not scared. Although, I guess normally you might think I'd be the one who'd be scared. Meeting an alien and all - but it's not liek he's the first. I can't help but grin at the thought.
I start to pull up my shirt to get changed and suddenly I remember the silver handprint. I'm accutely conscious of all the people around me, including Kyle. Damn.
"Wait, I'll be right back," I tell Kyle and head off for the toilets. My gym shirt is still in my hand. Hopefully he'll think I just didn't think to put it down. I step into a stall, afraid to look behind me to check if anyone's watching. Why would they watch? It would look really weird if I were suddenly checking. I sit down, pretending I'm using the toilet while I change my shirt. The handprint is still there. She said two or three days of gym and the guys' locker room. I think I'm going to have to start wearing an undershirt.
I stand up and flush the toilet just for camophlage, then open the door of the stall.

I catch up to Alex between classes halfway through the afternoon.
As I bounce up to him I giggle with the happiness of knowing what I do.
'Hey big brother! Hows it going? You in for bowling this weekend?'

The problem with changing the world is that it makes any life beyond that impossible...

I manage to get through gym without anyone noticing the mark on my chest or my trips to the toliet. At least, nobody seems to have noticed. There wasn't any of the tell-tale whispering or anything. Kyle would have asked directly if he were wondering and so far he hasn't, but I still feel like I'm holding my breath. I can't believe I let that nearly happen. I gotta have an undershirt somewhere to use tomorrow and the next day.
I try to hide my concern and worry with a care-free (ha!) smile as Kyle and I go on to the next class. Biology. Yes! Liz is actually my lab partner here. We won't need to pass notes after the experiment starts. We'll actually be able to talk a little. I can't wait.
