I have just about reached my car when my hand is seized by his,"Wait a minute will ya? I got something I want to say!"
"What do you have to say Kyle?" I ask patiently as I turn to face him

Ok, Kyle, don't mess this up and say something stupid. I pull my hand back and run it through my hair, smiling at her a little sheepishly. "Listen, Isabel, I'm sorry about that," I tell her, throwing a thumb over my shoulder at the house. "It was my idea for the surprise for Alex. Tess mentioned as I was driving her home from the club that you were going to make him over and I thought it would be kind of hokey and fun to have one of those parties like you see on TV after a make over. I didn't know you and Max had bad blood between you or I might have rethought the whole thing. I don't think he meant to react like that." I scratch my head. "I mean, I think he was just embarrassed that it's been so long since he has talked to you." Waving my hand to dismiss that, I continue, "Anyway, if he meant it or not doesn't really matter. The important thing is that if you and Alex are happy together, then screw Max you know?" I grin at her. "And even more importantly is that you both say you'll forgive me for that goof up back there. You could come inside and ignore Max. That'd show him that you're not bothered by him. There's some great pizza and beer or sodas if you want."

I silently lean against the door frame, watching in mild surprise how Kyle is trying to fix the situation. With all his carefree-player-attitude, it is sometimes easy to forget that he wants people to get along and is wanting to help others out.

"Nice speech, Kyle." I say finally, lifting myself away from the door. If this means that Isabel doesn't leave, them I'm all for forgiving Kyle. "If you promise to give my keys back within five minutes then I'll forgive you."

I listen as Kyle apologises about springing the surprise,rather amused that this out and out playboy is trying to explain things and make it right.
"Kyle,it's alright...really.I am not angry with you or Michael,even with Max for that matter. Alex and I didn't have any plans and he asked me in for coffee out of the blue.As for Max" I let out a soft sigh "that's between him and me."
"Anyway, if he meant it or not doesn't really matter. The important thing is that if you and Alex are happy together, then screw Max you know?"
My eyes widen in surprise...'Alex and me'...'happy together!'...What!?There is no 'we'.Boy...these guys jump to conclusions fast. "Kyle I don't know what you think is going on between Alex and me but..." he cuts and carries on

I should not be bothered by Isabel linking her arm through Kyle's like she earlier did with me but ... I am bothered. Very much. Which is crazy, I have no rights to be bothered. Having no rights is bothering me too if I'm honest.

I can hear pretty much everyword Kyle says to Isabel and let me tell you.. it hurts. I feel bad yes, but I didnt deserve her to be that mean to me. I was only trying to be nice. And the only guy she can find is my best friend? And I cant even pull?! This SUCKS!
I sigh as I realise there's no escape. None at all. But why should I be the first to talk? And why should I go back in there? And damnit why should I be the one to apologise when she and Alex gave me a floor show damnit. Ok Ill apologise but why should she not apologise back. And why Alex?! WHY Alex!
God I SO want a fucking drink right now...but Noooo I'm on call so I can't.

Taking a deep breath I walk back into the main room and sit down on the floor so that I'm out of the way and away from Isabel and Alex but not in the corner or anything like that. I'm not going to do that. She doesn't intimidate me. I take a piece of pizza and start to eat deciding not to say anything until someone talks to me.

Maria and I both say at the same time, "Oh no you don't!" and then laugh. I shake my head and smile at Tess. "No way are you getting out of it that easily. You started with the other night at the club...now spill it. You know Maria and I will just have to keep after you until you tell us anyway." Maria nods in agreement, her mouth full of ice cream. I have a feeling that this has something to do with Kyle and I don't really know what to expect coming. Kyle is a good guy and I like him a lot, but only as friends. We have a good time together and we flirt a lot but it's obvious to both of us that deep down, we aren't serious about each other...we never really were. I just hope that Tess doesn't ask all about our past. Like I said, we both enjoy a good time.

I thought it would be fun. Besides, I think you and Isabel make a cute couple," I tease and grin at him. Digging in my pocket, I pull out the key to his house and hold it out to him. "I guess you'll have to get Michael to water your plants and get your mail the next time you go out of town. I obviously can't be trusted with that key."
I know you're probably wondering why I got involved in trying to make peace between Isabel, Alex, and Max but live my life and the reason is obvious. I played peacemaker a lot between my parents when I was a kid. They argued a lot and it got pretty ugly at times. I always felt like I had to try to help put them back together again.

I glance down at Max who is a bit away from the rest of us before I get up. "I'll be right back, I'm just gonna change out of my work clothes. You guys know where the fridge is in case you need something."
Considering how weird the athmosphere in here is, I probably shouldn't leave the room, not even for five minutes especially when I'm the host ... am I the host when it is not me who is throwing the *party* even though it is at my place?
Anyway, I really wanna get out of these clothes, so I'm gonna leave. Maybe things will get better when the evil sister-corrupter is gone.
