Tess pulled back the chair and sat back down. “Going over to the shelter?” Michael asked.

Tess nodded her head yes and asked, “What are you going to do today?”

Michael shrugged his shoulders before he answered, “Figured I would see if there was a hockey game on.”

“Ya can grate the cheese when da chicken is cooked,” Rath answered while he started to take down the things he needed to prepare and cook dinner. Ria leaned against the counter near the coffee pot waiting for the coffee to finish brewing. Rath turned the lazy Susan and took out the olive oil, and a bottle of Fajita sauce. He poured oil into the large frying pan and turned the gas on and adjusted the flame. Opening the package of chicken strips, he put them into the pan and placed a lid on top. Pouring oil into the smaller skillet, he put the oil away and then started to slice the peppers.

Ria picked the pot up and asked, “You want coffee now?”

“Yeah,” Rath answered while turning on the burner and adjusting the flame. He put the peppers into the pan and placed a lid on top. Ria poured coffee into her mug and then poured coffee into his mug. Setting the pot on the burner, she picked her mug up and sipped her coffee while watching him cook. Rath put the cutting board away and started to clean up the mess from preparing dinner. He stirred the chicken strips and the peppers. Placing the lids back on top of the pans, he picked his mug up and sipped the coffee.

“Want me to set the table or anything since I can’t grate the cheese yet?” Ria asked.

Rath shook his head no and said, “Nah, Iz just gonna makes them on da plates n den we can sits n eats.”

Ria finished her coffee and set the mug on the counter. She was going to get another cup but then decided to wait to have another cup with her food. Rath took down three plates. He set the two down on the counter near the package of tortillas and the container of sour cream and placed the other near Ria. Getting out the cheese grater, he opened the package of cheese and handed both to Ria. She grated the cheese and then placed the grater in the dishwasher.

Rath lifted the lid on the chicken strips and tested the meat to make sure it was cooked. Shaking the bottle of sauce, he opened the bottle and poured the sauce into the pan. He mixed the sauce into the chicken strips so each piece was coated with the sauce. Turning the burners off, he lifted the lid on the peppers. He opened the package of tortillas and placed one on each plate. Ria moved the plate of grated cheese closer to him.

Rath scooped chicken strips and peppers onto each tortilla. Sprinkling cheese onto each, he added sour cream and then lifted the bottom and rolled. Ria poured coffee into their mugs and placed the pot back on the burner. Picking the mugs up, she walked over to the table. Rath picked the plates up and walked over to the table. Sitting down at the table, they started to eat. Ria ate her food and thought, Now Rath is dessert.
