Part 43
Michael was pacing the back room in the UFO center as Max once again scanned Christina.
“Sheriff you have to block more of your energy, it’s still too much for her to handle.”
Valenti nodded his head at Max’s direction.
He left the room putting as much distance as possible between him and the small girl he keeps unintentionally harming. He sat on the steps and pulled the energy inside himself.
So focused he didn’t notice the angry older brother approaching him until he sat down next to him causing Jim to jump a little.
“That’s quite a punch you pack, Sheriff.”
“Yeah, too bad I keep using it on your poor sister.”
Michael smiled, “She’s tough. She can handle it. Besides she knows it was an accident.”
Valenti nodded as he concentrated harder to protect the kids from himself, maybe he should skip town to keep them safe.
“Don’t think like that.”
They both looked up at her voice.
“What?”
“Not you Michael, Jim you can’t think like that. You’ve done so much for them… for us. You would never do anything to harm us, not when it really counts, and leaving us would definitely harm us in the long run. So stop with the crazy thoughts okay.”
Jim smiled sheepishly and nodded.
Max hesitantly went back to the topic that started all this,
“So what did all those lines mean?”
“Khivar’s here.”
Max’s face turned a nice ashen color.
Michael frowned, “Here as in Roswell here, or Earth here?”
“His ship has entered the upper atmosphere. They will have landed and be an organized camp in probably three days. Four days tops.”
Max regained his composure, “Meaning best case scenario we have four days before Khivar what, starts searching for us?”
Christina let out a humorless chuckle,
“That’s not really Khivar’s style, he’ll want to send a louder message. He’ll probably attack some cities, capture some humans that sort of thing.”
It was now Valenti’s turn to become a bit queasy.
Michael shook his head in disagreement.
“What Michael?”
“We don’t let that happen. Nobody is dying in this, remember? That includes the rest of humanity, not just us. Can those computers figure out where they’ll land?”
Max shrugged his shoulders, “That’s more of a Brody question. Or at the very least Alex.”
Christina flipped open her phone, “It’s time for a get-together then.”
She put her ear to the phone and listen to it ring, “Isabel?”
“WHAT?…Okay, listen we know. Pack everything up and head to Roswell all right. I’ll explain when everyone gets here. Are Spencer and them back yet? Okay I’ll call them. Try not to make to many stops. See you guys in a day or two.”
She dialed again not even acknowledging the question looks she was getting from Max and Michael.
“Spencer? Oh sorry Kyle, everyone okay? Good. Listen are you guys headed back to Cottage Grove? All right, no no, head to Roswell instead. Really, that doesn’t surprise me at all considering… Never mind. When everyone’s here I’ll explain okay, make sure you’re all rested up. Be careful. See you guys soon.”
Finished she turned back to the agitated boys. “What?”
Max folded his arms across his chest matching Michael’s position and throwing in a raised eyebrow for effect.
Valenti had to smile as she gave into their antics.
“Fine. Liz apparently had a premonition about the troops gathering under Khivar’s leadership rallying to destroy us and Isabel felt Khivar enter the atmosphere.” She hoped that would be enough.
“What did Kyle say?”
Darn her brother and his observant skills.
“Kyle said that Sundari and Niko had gathered all the Skins in Oregon presumable to head to wherever Khivar will land. Ava got rid of all the Skins but Nicholas and Sundari remain intact.”
“Can’t win them all.”
The other three turned towards Valenti with a look.
“What all I’m saying is…”
He never got a chance to finish as Michael cut him off.
“No offense Sheriff, but we can win them all. And from now on we don’t have any other choice.”

Part 44
Naturally, even unknowingly, Spencer pulled up to the Crashdown and parked the car. The car stopped waking up Kyle who looked around and saw the Crashdown.
“Home.”
Serena and Ava smiled at the look of pure joy that crossed his face.
He jumped out of the car and ran towards the Crashdown doors. The others got out of the car slowly following him. All three took notice of how deserted Roswell looked.
“DAD!!!”
Everyone stopped and watched as Kyle ran to his dad. Max seeing the Sheriff’s reaction stepped next to Christina and put up his shield, she smiled in appreciation.
Ava, Spencer, and Serena walked through the doors.
“Whoa.”
Serena stumbled from the surge of emotions that hit her. Spencer grabbed her arm to steady her. Ava having noticed Max’s shield concentrated for a second on Isabel and then put up a purple shield.
“Better?”
Serena nodded her head, “Thanks Ava.”
Jim embraced Kyle.
“Oh Kyle.”
“I missed you dad.” He managed in a choked voice.
“I missed you too son. I love you.” Tears slipped from the weary corners of Jim’s eyes.
“Love you too dad.”
“Ah Sheriff, could you…?”
Michael was hesitant to interrupt the moment but it was really impractical to have shields up to protect the two girls, besides they hadn’t finished fixing up the Crashdown and they had to before the others got here.
Jim looked at Michael in confusion having completely forgotten about everything else, his powers and everyone but Kyle. Seeing the shields he realized the problem.
“Right sorry.” Michael just shrugged his shoulders.
After a minute the shields dropped simultaneously. While Jim and Kyle composed themselves.
“Evans.”
Max shook his head in amusement, “Kyle.”
Michael and Kyle exchanged nods and then Kyle went over to Christina and gave her a hug.
“Nice to see you again.”
She smirked over his shoulder at the look on Michael’s face, “Ditto.”
Before everyone could get caught up completely in the reacquainting Max called their attention.
“Okay guys listen up. We have probably 2 hours maybe 3 before the others get here. This place has to be up to shape before than. Serena and Spencer since you’re not to familiar with the place to you want to keep look out for Skins and more importantly Liz and Maria.”
Michael added his two cents, “Yeah, none of us wants to deal with Maria if she sees this place in shambles.”
Ava put in, “Plus the hormones with a pregnant Liz.”
They caught each other’s eye in innocent amusement for a second before both their eyes widen in realization with what was about to happen.
Christina felt the air begin to hum with energy; she glanced between Ava and Michael and realized her mistake. She had stopped using the Granolith to block them from each other when Max raised his shield and forgot to put the blocks back in place once he dropped it.
“Damn, Max shield yourself from those two. Sheriff help him out if he needs it.”
Michael and Ava were still in a trance as Christina took brief notice to Max’s shield rising up with him and the Valenti men on the other side of it.
“Spencer, outside keep watch. Serena…”
Serena walked over and joined hands with her allowing them to more easily dampen the energy flowing from the two hybrids lost within each other’s memories and power.

Within the connection itself Ava had stopped trying to fight it once the first few flashes of Michael breaking out of his pod and wondering the desert had hit her. She knew it would be less painful for both of them if they were accepting of it. Plus, she knew the others would watch their backs while they were caught up in this.
Once Michael had sensed Ava stop fighting it, he too had just allowed himself to experience this new connection. It wasn’t as strong as the one he shared with his sister but it was accompanied by the same sense of fierce protectiveness over the small girl. A sense of protectiveness that only increased when he saw Ava’s life growing up on the streets on New York City. It was a different kind of life style then his own, but just as scaring as growing up with Hank and probably still more challenging because in reality she had to do it all alone.
He could also feel Ava’s sense of completeness now considering she was the only one combined to all three of them. Michael considered briefly how strange it worked out that way.
As the flashed started to slow down and the energy started to swirl faster and faster between the two he felt an awareness of doom. T
hey were too strong; they couldn’t allow for the continual build up of their energy otherwise they would decimate the entire block. Between his blast and her fireblaze they would take out all their friends and the whole building if they lost control and released their energy, which they were close to doing.
At the same time they both pulled back and gained control over their own energy. Unknowingly they both stepped back causing Ava to bump into a chair and lose eye contact ending the connection process.
A single tear slipped from her eye, “Christina, Michael and I almost…”
By now Spencer had rushed back in and pulled Ava into his arms giving a curious glance to his sister and Christina.
“I know.”
“That’s a good thing though right? I mean Ava and I could easily defeat…”
“No.”
“NO? Why the hell not, Serena?”
Spencer gave the answer,
“It’s too dangerous. You and Ava together like that, we would only use as a desperate, last resort. If you guys allow that force to build between you to its full potential not only will you probably demolish an entire city, but it would obliterate both of you also.”
“How the hell do we work together in the Four Square then?”
By this time Max had dropped his shield and he and the Valenti’s caught onto the conversation.
It was Max, who guessed the answer,
“Balance. A lot of this stuff has to do with balance. Isabel and I provide that in the Four Square for you and Ava.”
Christina nodded her head confirming Max’s guess.
Michael ran a hand through his hair in frustration. Who was he kidding he knew it was never that easy.
“We should get back to cleaning up they’ll be here soon.”
Quietly everyone moved back to work with Serena, Spencer, and Ava, by unspoken agreement, headed out side to watch for the others.

Part 45
They had finished clean up long before Ava’s blue Jetta pulled up, looking strangely out of place in the red Jetta’s spot. Michael had started the grill and everyone was enjoying food when Liz waltzed in with a huge smile on her face. Alex and Isabel right behind her.
Liz slide into the usual booth next to Max as Izzie and Alex joined Serena, Spencer and Ava at the table.
Surprisingly enough Christina was serving drinks as Michael finished flipping the burgers for those who just walked in.
When the bell rang he glanced up to find a smirking Isabel. She rolled her eyes at his obviousness, questioning how any of them really ever doubted his feelings for Maria. She nodded her head behind her and Michael’s eyes immediately followed the direction.
What he saw almost broke his heart.
Maria was sitting in the Jetta clutching the steering wheel and almost at the point of hyperventilating. He wiped off his apron and was out of the kitchen two second later as he passed Kyle and his dad in a booth he grunted towards Kyle,
“Take over the grill.” And continued storming out the door.
He almost ripped the door away from the car as he pulled it open. He sat down and saw Maria flinch as the door closed a bit more loudly then necessary.
“Hey, Spaceboy.”
Her voice was watery matching the tears that were gathering in her usually bright green eyes.
“Maria.”
All he said was her name but it was enough to get her to break. She pulled away from the steering wheel and leaned towards him as the tears dripped from her eyes.
He pulled her closer so she was in his lap as he held her tightly to him with one hand and the other he ran through her hair. They stayed like that for minutes, Maria silently crying and Michael trying to figure out what he had done wrong this time.
When she pulled away he gave her a small genuine smile, a smile reserved for her eyes only.
Looking into her deep green eyes he saw her fear, so much fear he didn’t know how she was still breathing. A weaker person would have been defeated by it. That much fear could be paralyzing, he knew from experiences with Hank and he had never wanted to see his beautiful Maria look like that. So he did the only thing he could think of, distracted her with a kiss.
Slowly he lowered his lips to hers making sure it was okay, making sure she could handle it. When he saw her stick her tongue out and moisten her lips he groaned slowly and crashed his lips onto hers all thoughts of gentleness gone as passion exploded between them. He bit at her lower lip until she opened her mouth for him and allowed their tongues to duel.
Suddenly he was hit was flashes.
Liz fainting, Liz being shot, her dad leaving her, him leaving her time and time again, Alex dying, Isabel announcement that Khivar was there and then images of all of them dying over and over again.
No wonder she was so afraid. As she sighed into his mouth with pleasure and moved her little hands across his chest he gave her flashes of earlier with Christina and the Granolith. Trying to reassure her that everything would be all right now. Just as Michael was moved downwards towards her luscious neck Maria pulled back.
“Thank you Michael.”
He grunted in response reaching back for her neck when her hands stopped him. He looked into her eyes and saw a real Maria smile grace her face.
The world tilted right in front of him as he was overcome with such a strong wave of love for this small human girl. He pulled her back to his chest and kissed the top of her head as they held onto each other for dear life.
“We should go inside, Spaceboy. The others are waiting…”
He regretfully agreed with her as he open the car door and stepped out of the car with her still in his arms.
She giggled and whacked him on the shoulder, “Let me down!”
First he shut the car door; he dropped her onto her feet, holding her steady. Then he pushed her into the closed car door with his body, crushing her to him and held her face with his hands. He lowered his head, caressing her lips with his own briefly before pulling back. Maria moaned when she felt his body heat leave hers.
She managed a strangled groan, “Michael.”
He smirked and took her hand dragging her into the restaurant to the others.

Part 46
Inside the Café after the door slammed shut on Michael's way out, Max welcomed Liz with a kiss. He pulled back slowly gazing into her eyes.
“Hi.”
“Hi yourself.”
“Thank you.”
“For?”
“Fixing the Café.”
Off of Max’s startled look she shrugged, “I got a flash when I opened the door. I don’t think I could have handled seeing it in person so thank you for saving me from that pain.”
Max smiled and pulled Liz’s back up against his chest, “Liz your mom was attacked,” feeling her go rigid he rushed on, “Valenti, said she’s okay now, but it was pretty scary from what he said. And they don’t know…I’m sorry, but they don’t know what happen to your dad. Where he is or if he’s okay. We could call your mom though if you want check up on her and then we could have Isabel dream-walk your dad.”
Liz turned to look up at Max, he cringed at the tears glistening in her eyes.
“Not until this is over Max. We can’t get distracted right now. I…my dad… I have to have faith that he’s out there somewhere okay. As much as I love him, we have other things that take priority right now. When we finish this then we can be reunited with the rest of our families.”
Max sighed and rested his chin on Liz’s shoulder, marveling at her strength. He wrapped his arms protectively around her stomach and watched as the others got caught up.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Christina was leaning against the counter in front of Spencer who had moved from his table to get the drinks from her.
“A hundred skins?”
“Yeah plus Niko and Sundari.”
“And Ava…”
“Yeah all of them except Niko and Sundari.”
“Could she do it again?”
“Yeah, but we both know Khivar will have more than a hundred skins with him.”
She nodded as her mind raced for other ideas, “What about Jim?”
At his confused look she explained, “He’s an AMP.”
Spencer’s eyebrows rose obviously impressed, “Really?” She nodded again, “That’s lucky for us.”
She smirked, “Yeah they have no idea how lucky we got with that. So… what about with him?”
“No, two thousand skins, hit with a fire blast to wipe them out plus Rena and Kyle were distracting them. It would never work with just one AMP. Besides that doesn’t really require the Four Square does it?”
He left her alone with those thoughts returning to his table with the others.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Wait. You took out 100 skins? By yourself??”
“Alex calm down, no not by myself, Serena, Spencer, and Kyle were there too.”
Serena laughed, “Yeah we where there but she did all the heavy lifting so to speak.”
“Well I kind of cheated towards the end.”
Isabel frowned, “Cheated how?”
“I ah, I thought I was strong enough to do it by myself, but even when all the energy was building in me and I was about to explode I knew it wasn't enough so I tapped into some of your and Max’s energy, not enough for you guys to be effected but still…”
Isabel laughed, “Ava it’s not cheating if it helps to save all our lives. Besides that’s why we all have this connection thing right?”
“Yeah I guess.”
Serena and Ava were distracted as Spencer rejoined them with their drinks.
Alex took the opportunity to pull Isabel’s chair closer and whisper into her ear.
“I know we have Khivar to deal with and everything, but maybe later tonight we can go out to Fraiser Woods, look at the stars?”
Isabel lifted her head and smiled at him, “That’s sounds absolutely perfect.”
She rested her head on his shoulders as they watched in amusement as Serena started picking on Ava and Spencer grilling them for information.
She decided to save the poor girl, “So Ava your connected to all three of us now. How did that happen?”
Ava shrugged looking at Serena who might have a better idea, but she too shook her head showing she had no idea. Liz had over heard the question and walked over to join them,
“I have an idea as too why.”
Max smiled at Liz. Always the scientist. He pulled up a chair at the others' table, sitting down and then pulling Liz onto his lap.
“So what’s your idea?”
“Well…um…on Antar Ava was the last one connected with you three so that part of the connection had less time to develop before you were all…killed. Maybe a part of you guys, like instinctually, needed the connection with Ava to develop the group dynamic further.”
Getting more excited by her hypothesis Liz rushed on more confident.
“If you think about it, Ava was in New York so, not only did you three have more time being connected on Antar, but here on Earth too. I’m sure your latent connections could feel that you were all close still, but for survival so to speak it pulled Ava into each of you first. Providing, hopefully a better chance this time around.”
“That ladies and gentleman is why Liz makes such a great Queen.”
Liz, taken aback, glanced towards Christina, “I’m not the Queen.”
She heard the others laughing softly, even saw a few of them roll their eyes.
Christina went on, “Sure you are. Max healed you, connected with you, and married you. And you are currently carrying the Royal heir to the throne of Antar.”
“But…” Grasping for straws Liz remember something, “Max had the seal or whatever marking him as the king, I don’t have anything like that.”
She triumphed having put them all in their place. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be Max’s Queen it was just so much responsibility to so many people; looking up to her for guidance.
Michael had paused from following Maria through the Café when he heard Liz’s statement of not being the Queen. He remembered the seal Max and he saw when the Crashdown was still a mess.
“Yes you do.”
He reached out and touched her arm giving her a flash of the Antarian Royal seal gleaming on the Crashdown floor. Christina saw the flash too. Michael continued on his way leaving Liz with her mouth hanging open.

In the kitchen Kyle was working at the grill and his dad was preparing the hamburger buns.
Kyle was listening intently to the on-goings of his father’s life these past two years apart. Amazed with everything the parents had to deal with.
“Hey Dad, maybe when this is all over we can go fishing?”
A bit distracted the Sheriff responded,
“That sounds great Kyle. Hey listen when this all ends I was thinking of asking Amy… asking Amy to marry me. I mean we already did the whole court justice thing, but I was thinking we could have like a real wedding ceremony. You think, I mean that is if she agrees, you think you could be my best man?”
Kyle never got a chance to answer because Michael and Maria had found there way to the kitchen by then and when Valenti finished his question Maria began shrieking all kinds of non-coherent things.
Kyle smiled and thought to himself again how good it was to finally be home.

Part 47
Valenti had caught them all up about the parents and they were all relieved that they had escaped for the most part unharmed. They couldn’t wait to see their families again, but they all acknowledged it wasn’t safe yet and they would wait till it was.
Spencer caught everyone up with the story of Ava’s fire blaze, and Christina updated everyone about the Granolith.
Under orders from Max, they had the night off. It was decided everyone should spend the night however they wanted and it the morning they would gather at Brody’s computer for Alex to work his magic.
Waiting till the morning wasn’t going to change the time frame for Khivar's arrival so relaxing for a bit with their loved ones was exactly what they needed.
Spencer and Serena with the help of Ava, had declared the town free of any Skins. The last ones roaming about taken care of by Christina in the last few days.
Most everyone headed to the Evan’s house once they were done at the Crashdown.
Michael and Maria had said they wanted some alone time, which earned them a snicker from Kyle who in return was smacked in the head by both Serena and Isabel before Michael and Maria left for her house.
The others heard Isabel and Alex mumble something about Fraiser Woods before they too ran out the door claiming the Jetta for themselves since Maria and Michael had apparently decided to walk.
Liz wandered off into Max’s room for bed, tired after a whole day and a half on the road; nobody was really surprised when a few minutes later Max followed her up.
Kyle took it upon himself to play hostess: he pointed out where the kitchen was, which door the bathroom was behind, and then plopped himself in front of the TV and started a movie.
Everyone else settled around the couch to enjoy the film, but it wasn’t long before they were all asleep.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Across town Isabel and Alex were settling down onto the same rock they had sat on the night of the Father’s Camp Out.
Words didn’t have to be exchanged as they silently basked in each other’s company. Both were completely content and happy now that they were reunited.
Isabel reflected on how much had changed since she last sat out here with Alex.
One of their own had betrayed them, Max was a father, and she had been married and widowed. They had and were technically still running from government agents who wanted to kill them, they discovered more aliens, their human friends had developed powers, and now they were about to engage in an intergalactic war.
Isabel sighed, she had regrets, who didn’t, but she decided to be more optimistic, more hopeful for the future and she wanted to avoid having any more regrets because for being so young she already had far too many.
Alex could sense the emotional storm going on within Isabel’s mind. He would have asked her to share what was bothering her, but he was to scatter brained himself. Trying to convince himself into asking her that question was a difficult task when he could barely focus on breathing properly with her so close to him. Liz and Maria were insane. He wasn’t ready for this; she wasn’t ready for this either. He husband just died
Mentally chiding himself, okay Whitman don’t think about her husband leads to bad nauseous feeling.
At the same time Isabel had reached a conclusion to not have any more regrets, Alex decided he needed to stop existing in life without actually living it. For too long he had been cooped up in fear with Ava avoiding the real world. It was easy to fall back into that but Alex refused to watch life pass him by.
“Isabel.”
He waited until she looked at him when their eyes met he continued, his voice quaking with emotions.
“Isabel when you first approached me and asked me to go to that Rave at the soap factory, I was astounded by your beauty and the mere fact that you were talking to me. Alex Charles Whitman. It was a dream; beautiful goddesses such as yourself do not speak to band geeks like me. But you did, and with time you let me in and it was a dream come true when you shared with me the beauty you have inside you.
Your gorgeous Isabel, but that pales in comparison to the person you are inside. I’m so grateful you let me in, so I could see the real you and I want to spend the rest of my life knowing who you are both inside and out.
Isabel, my lady, will you do me the incredible honor of becoming my wife?”

Part 48
The last ones to arrive in the Crashdown the next morning for breakfast were Alex and Isabel. The others were sitting in booths or tables waiting for the last two wondering where they were when they rushed through the doors and Isabel was giggling.
Maria and Liz turned in the booth they were sharing with Max and Michael. Maria turned towards Liz with a raised eyebrow,
“Giggling?”
Liz shrugged her shoulders just as baffled as her friend and they turned back to the giggling Ice Queen and Band Geek joining the others in questioning gaze.
Isabel held up her hand. Her left hand. That was all it took.
Maria and Liz screamed and jumped out of the booth first hugging Alex while jumping up and down then turning to Isabel for the same treatment.
Kyle and his dad both stood with their jaws closing slowly to go congratulate the pair.
Over the excited congratulations Max was in shock.
“Engaged? But it’s been...what a month? If anything I would think you and Maria…”
He was cut off by a quick elbow to the gut from his second who was looking over to make sure Maria hadn’t heard the clueless King. Unfortunately he found her glaring back at him and Max. Max after turning to Michael to yell at him saw him gulp and turned to find Maria’s eyes blazing.
“Sorry man.”
He slide out of the booth to go congratulate his sister. As Michael tried to shrink into the booth he caught Maria wink at him as her eyes danced with amusement. He growled as he too got up to congratulate his sister.
Across the way at the counter Serena was slowly looking back and forth between Isabel and Ava. Then she stared at Isabel with narrowing eyes taking in the ring on one hand, clasping Alex’s with the other and the blinding smiles on both their faces with a sharp gasp she turned sharply towards Ava.
Ava rolled her eyes as she watched Serena find enlightenment. With everyone else’s attention focused on Alex and Isabel she sighed as she pulled out the delicate silver chain from her shirt. Serena’s mouth open quickly as she saw the silver band with the pink pear cut diamond on it, but Ava was faster and slapped her hand over Serena's mouth before she could say a word.
Ava shook her head profusely at Serena’s questioning look she pointed towards the happy couple celebrating their news, “Later Rena, when all this crap is over.”
Serena hugged the smaller girl to her side, “Okay whatever you say…sis.”
They laughed breaking apart and going to join in the congratulating.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It was only an hour later that the mood had drastically changed as Alex and Spencer sat at the computers busily typing away. Christina stood over their shoulders watching carefully while Ava stood next to her pointing things out when one of them messed up. Max was pacing the room waiting for a location
The other girls were sprawled out on the stairs quietly talking about the proposal and upcoming wedding plans.
In between the two groups stood Michael, Kyle, and Valenti. Michael narrowed his eyes at the girls as Maria glanced in his direction for the millionth time in the past 20 minutes.
“This is so not good.”
Michael nodded his head in agreement, “Tell me about it.”
Valenti smiled at the fear passing over the two boys faces, “Look at the bright side…”
He almost felt bad for the light and hope that filled their eyes as they turned their attention to him. Almost.
“You have at least until you guys kick Khivar’s ass to put off your own proposals.”
Kyle frowned and then paled as that though sunk in, “Maybe we won’t all make it.”
Michael smiled at the thought of Kyle facing death instead of Serena. Kyle seeing this hit Michael with reality.
“Guerin you should be praying for Khivar to take out your ass. Serena’s a piece of cake compared to the Hurricane.”
He chuckled along with his father as they moved off to see how progress on the computer was going.
Michael starred at the retreating backs in disgust as he mumbled under his breath, “Traitors.”
He turned to find Maria smiling at him, “Shit.”
Michael rushed up the stairs suddenly in desperate need for some fresh air. He pushed passed the girls and only in an after thought informed them,
“Have Christina let me know when you have something. I need some air.”
They nodded but all look on in confusion until Maria’s quiet laughter broke through their haze of bewilderment.
“Ria what was that?”
“That my chicas was the General running in fear of a little bad weather.”
Even more confused then before they decided to continue their discussion about colors for bridesmaid dresses.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It was over thirty minutes later that Michael had conquered his fear or at least pushed it down enough to let his impatience show as he stormed into Brody’s office demanding answers.
“What the hell is taking so long?”
“Calm down General.”
“Then give me some answers, Princess. We’ve been here too long.”
Max tried to stop the quarreling siblings, “It’s only been a little more than an hour Michael.”
“I have to agree with Michael, this does seem to be taking a bit long.”
Michael gave Ava a small smile in appreciation.
Alex nodded slightly distracted as Spencer responded, “Well, we have narrowed it down to the Southwestern part of the US.”
Michael rolled his eyes, “Well of course there going to head in this direction everyone knows we crashed in Roswell and grew up there. They have no reason to think we ever left.”
Hearing the arguing Serena, Liz, Maria, and Isabel had stopped their discussion about weddings and joined the others to see what was going on.
“Look Michael…”
Christina was suddenly cut off as Alex jumped up with his arms raised a second before the computer started beeping and blinking pulling up charts and maps. Maria wasn’t sure so she looked closer. Yep that was a countdown clock. With only 28 hours left on it and some odd minutes.
Everyone gathered around the computers looking as the information flooded the numerous screens.
“Damn.”
Everyone’s attention was drawn to Christina who had just noticed the clock Maria was gapping at.
“We have 28 hours before Khivar lands in…” She trailed off looking to the other computers for an answer.
“Arizona.”
“Where in Arizona?” She asked while walking over to Spencer and the computer he was looking at filled with maps.
“How appropriate.”
Christina rolled her eyes at Khivar’s destination. Figures the manic would go somewhere like that.
“Where are we headed Christina?” Max had to know so he could start making plans.
“Kingman, Arizona.”
“How long does it take to get there.”
Serena had pulled up another map and was figuring out a driving route when the question was asked, “10 hours, that’s without stops at all. Probably be more like 12 with all twelve of us going.”
Most were nodding there heads in agreement, when the stubborn war general followed quickly by the king put those thoughts aside.
“No way in hell are all 12 of us going…”
“We are not risking that, Liz is pregnant and Maria…”
“Oh don’t start that human crap that’s just a pathetic excuse at this point!”
“Maria’s right it’s been five years since this started you can’t actually consider going back to us vs. them.”
Valenti and Kyle decided to throw in their thoughts as well.
“Girls, maybe Max and Michael are right it will be very dangerous for you.”
“Sheriff, you, Alex, and Kyle should stay with them too.”
“No way Isabel, I want to kick alien ass!”
Alex smiled at Isabel to soften his next statement, “I’m with Kyle.”
Before Serena, Ava, or Spencer could even begin to comment about what they thought of the aliens vs. humans going to fight, Christina let out a piercing whistle that had everyone shutting up and looking at her.
“Antarians only. Khivar does not need direct access to any of you. Besides if this doesn’t work we need you guys as the secret weapon to come save our asses so we can regroup and come up with a new plan.”
“That’s an order.”
Seeing how serious Max was about that Liz, Alex, and Valenti quieted down deciding they could argue more about it later if it was really necessary. Kyle to gave up any real fight and just mumbled to himself about stubborn big-eared Martians.
It was Maria who opened her mouth to complain still, which was crazy considering she didn’t even have power to fight back with, at least the others could defend themselves.
She took a deep breath ready to give them a real lashing, but Michael recognizing a Maria rant a mile away quickly was at her side and swallowed any arguments she may have had by smothering her with a kiss. It was a few minutes later that he pulled away and Maria blinked her eyes open in puzzlement.
Seeing the glint in his eyes she smirked, “Fine, but this isn’t the last of it, Spaceboy.”
He smirked at her hoping that was a promise of future bickering. The smirk grew when he heard,
“What happens now Max?”

Part 49
Max managed not to flinch as his most feared and despised questioned passed the lips of Ava. He paused for a moment trying to plan and organize. 28 hours was not a very long time at all. It was hardly enough to come to terms with how drastically their lives were going to change.
“Okay we’ll use the SUV, Jetta, and Christina’s Toyota to get there. Until we get to…”
Looking at the map for a moment he continued, “…Pine Springs, Arizona. We’ll drop off those who aren’t going to battle and leave them with the SUV. The rest of us will take the other two cars onwards. How about Maria, Michael and Christina in the Toyota, Spencer, Serena, Ava, and Kyle in the Jetta and the rest of us in the SUV until Pine Springs.”
“Sounds good Maxwell. Lets move out. Cars leave in 30 minutes your not in them you're staying behind.” With that announcement Michael grabbed Maria’s hand and dragged her up the stairs and out the UFO Center.
“Wonder what they’ll be doing with their 30 minutes.” Serena joked even though nobody really had any doubts.
“Ew… Serena that’s my brother could we not go there?”
“Sorry.” Her and Kyle’s laughter led the others to believe she wasn’t all that sorry.
In the mean time nobody had noticed Max and Liz also sneak out and cross the street to Liz’s room.
Valenti sighed as he watched the teens exiting or looking for a means to escape.
“I’m going stop by the house and pack a change of clothes, I’ll take the SUV over to the Evan’s and load up everyone’s stuff.”
As the Sheriff left the UFO Center Alex was whispering into Isabel’s ear and a moment later they too where out the door and driving off with the Jetta to Alex’s house for their last few moments alone.
Christina almost laughed at the glances Spencer and Kyle were throwing at their girls.
“Give it up, there are no more cars left here, besides Kyle your dad went to your house so there is no where for you to have some alone time.”
None of them missed the sarcasm in Christina’s tone. She didn’t have time for them and their horniness. She had a war to win. Then she laughed at her self, not even 20 yet and she was more concerned about winning a war then her romantic life. Oh well.
“Ice cream?”
Ava nodded her head enthusiastically towards Serena as they dragged Christina outside towards the Crashdown. And that is how Kyle and Spencer ended up looking at each other in uncertainty before slowly following the girls for at the very least more food.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
For the most part the car rides to Pine Springs were slightly less then boring due to the company and where they were actually headed.
Fourteen hours later, due to the numerous bathroom breaks needed from six girls they arrived in Pine Springs and had rented the small town house the humans would reside in for the next few days while their friends were battling Khivar.
Instead of getting back on the road the Antarians decided to hang around for a bit since they still had fourteen hours before Khivar even landed. They took naps and they ate two more meals together sitting around afterwards just hanging out almost able to forget that half of them were going off to war.
A fear that for so long was abstract for all of them was about to become a reality. A reality, that was completely crippling if they thought about it for too long. So despite what they were about to face they practiced their favorite pastime of denial.
Even Michael wasn’t demanding that they start planning war strategies yet as he talked with Kyle and Spencer about the most recent hockey season with Maria cuddled into his side as her and Liz talked about baby names.
After their last meal when they were sitting around talking, Christina jumped up startled, “Oh my God. I’m an idiot!”
Everyone had quieted down and turned towards her in question.
“The Four Square connections haven’t been completely reawakened.”
Serena started to laugh. Spencer hushed his sister, “It’s not funny!”
Controlling the giggles she nodded, “Not funny ha ha but still funny. We were about to go into freakin battle without the power of the Four Square. Khivar would have laughed us all the way back to Antar.”
Christian huffed at the obvious point. Without any humor she continued,
“Hilarious, all right, Max, Michael, Isabel lets do this. Ava once they’re connected feel free to join in but until then, Alex can you shield her from them. Serena and Jim you’re both going to have to help me to stop their energy pattern from sending out to strongly to Khivar. Okay?”
Everyone nodded their heads in agreement as the three stepped towards each other in a small circle. They sat down and reached out clasping each other hands. It made sense to them that they would be connecting all together. For so long it had been just the three of them: hiding for their lives and then fighting to protect each other and their loved ones.
Isabel smiled at her two brothers from this lifetime trusting them to get her through this. Max gripped his siblings’ hands tightly knowing that they would always be there for each other just like they always had been. Michael nodded his head towards his family. They were the first members of his family, the first ones he ever trusted, he was right when he told Max they were put together for a reason and they were about to dive head first into that reason.
They waited a moment for it to start when nothing happened they turned to Christina for an answer.
“Opps… sorry I’ve been blocking you from each other since I’ve connected with the Granolith. I didn’t want connections opening until the last possible second.”
“I’ll say.” Serena giggled again before managing to regain control of herself.
“Ready?” The three nodded to Christina who smiled at them before dropping the blocks she had placed within each of them.
As the connections burst open, a force spread out from them causing the remaining people to step backwards.
Memories, emotions, thoughts, disappointments, fears, hopes, and dreams all flew past at lightening quick speed. Only overpowered by the pure strength of their energies combining once again after so long.
Valenti saw both Serena and Christina struggling as they shut their eyes tightly and their hands fisted at their sides. He put one hand on each shoulder giving them more direct access to his strength. Immediately they relaxed a bit, but kept their eyes closed as they continued with their task.
Alex and Ava were a standing off to the side when Max, Isabel, and Michael each started to glow, Max was enveloped in the green-blue hue of his shield, Isabel was surrounded by the soft purple of her shield, Michael was circled with a solid yellow, close to the gold Max and Valenti had seen in his eyes earlier. As the colors surrounding them getting brighter, Alex dropped his shield noticing Ava’s own bright orange engulfing her. Almost in a trance she glided over to the other three and joined their circle.
Maria, Kyle and Liz watched on in admiration hardly noticing the small silver hand prints lighting up under Liz’s shirt.
Spencer reached out grabbing his sister’s hand; the reds and pinks Michael had seen in her shield slowly grew between their joined hands. From Christina too, the ones not lost in a connection noticed the sparkling gold flicker every now and then as Christina fought for control over the connections.
In an instant there was an explosion of color as all they all reached out, briefly intermingled, brushing against each other-as if searching for what has been lost-before slamming back into the owner and disappearing out of sight again.
Christina dropped to the floor as the energy level in the room severely decreased as each member gained control of themselves.
“That was so cool. If I could bottle that and sell it at my mom’s store we’d be sooo rich.”
Kyle was nodding in agreement with Maria, “Can we do that again later.”
The others joined in laughter with Maria and Kyle.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When it finally came time for the Antarians to take their leave there was not a dry eye in the small town house. Hugs were exchanged between everyone. Promises made to come back safe and protect each other, making sure everyone made it home.
At last they all pulled away from each other. Ava, Spencer, and Serena climbed into the Jetta pulling out ahead of the Toyota carrying the others. From the front porch the others waved. As the last car turned the corner Maria stated what they were all thinking,
“So how long before we follow them?”

Part 50
The Roswellians and company were just outside Kingman when the saw Khivar’s ship fly overhead preparing to land.
“You’d think with the technology our race has, Khivar would have a cloak to hide his presence.”
Spencer replied to Michael's comment, “He doesn’t care who knows he’s here.”
“Yeah, as far as he’s concerned weak little humans have no chance against his great power.”
Serena couldn’t help the anger the seeped out of her own voice.
Isabel focused them back to what they were here for. “So how we going to do this?”
Michael answered for her, “You have to contact him, let him know that you, Max, and I are coming to make a deal with him so he doesn’t harm any humans.”
Max was impressed with Michael’s quick thinking. “Then what.”
“Set up a meeting, when we get to their camp or whatever we start blasting.”
Christina continued, “Kill anything that moves.”
Max frowned, “What about humans?”
Spencer shook his head, “I already looked into it. The entire city and surrounding areas is complete empty of human life.
Serena backed up her brother, “It’s true, last emotional impressions from this area are ones from people running.”
Ava wondered out loud, “What made them leave?”
Serena shrugged her shoulders, Isabel turned a slight pink color and raised her hand,
“Ah Liz and I with Valenti’s help. We…um… entered their dreams and gave them this really strong urge to leave town for a while.”
Clearly impressed Max smiled, “Good thinking Iz.”
“Actually Max, it was Maria’s idea. She kept rambling on about being the last human having to think about her fellow kind.”
The others laughed.
“That’s my girl.” Michael scratched his eyebrow.
“So Iz, will set up a meeting. Spencer, Ava, and myself will go scout the perimeter, see what their set up is like. When we get back Iz can tell us what Khivar said and then we can decided whether we go in tonight or tomorrow morning.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After the three left to observe Khivar’s camp, Iz settled down in the hotel room they had ‘rented.’ She had to reach deep with herself towards Vilandra’s memories in order to reach the weak link Khivar still had from invading her.
Cautiously she followed the link startled at the sudden voice.
“Why Princess Vilandra, what a turn of events you finally seeking me out. To what do I owe the pleasure.”
It took all of her self-control not to mentally cringe at his voice.
“Max, Michael, and I want to set up a deal with you. We don’t want to see any harm come to humans.”
Khivar chuckled an evil noise that sent chills down Isabel’s spine, “Always so naïve sweet Princess. What do you and those Royal nuisances possible have to offer that I want or could not just come and simply take if for myself.
She really didn’t want to do this but apparently she had to, “ME.”
Khivar laughed again sincerely amused this time, “Princess you think so highly of yourself. What makes you think I want anything to do with you.”
She couldn’t help it, “Oh please Khivar, you’ve always wanted Vilandra and still do. The power you two would have together unmatched. Plus it would settle the revolutionaries back home, having an actual Royal on the throne. Supporting the monster who killed their beloved monarchy.”
Khivar growled, “Watch it Vilandra, you really don’t want to make me any angrier. Your precious Earthlings couldn’t handle it.”
Isabel backed down, but only slightly. “So are you going to allow us to meet with you or…”
“Why not. At the very least I can see the newer, weaker forms of Zan and Rath again. They were highly amusing during my last visit. I’m sure you’re close by and have seen our entry.”
Hesitantly, Isabel nodded her head.
“Very well approach us from the east and we shall not strike until negotiations have been arranged.”
As quickly as she could Isabel left the dream plane.
Sitting up in bed quickly, “Yuck, I sooo need a shower after that.”
Max sat down next to his sister, “So?”
“We have a meeting, I’m going shower though. When the others get back I’ll tell you everything.”
Max watched his sister rush towards the bathroom.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
They were hiding in some bushes that were above the campsite on a cliff. They had driven all the way around the area to reach the elevated ground.
Michael had to give Khivar credit. They were backed into the cliff the only way someone could get to them from there was a drop that would surely cause their death. The other three sides completely flat and empty. Desert sand for miles.
Michael and Spencer were keeping watch noting a few details as Ava worked on getting a head count. Spencer was specifically looking for the major players: Khivar, Niko, Sundari, and possibly others who had a lot of power or authority. Michael was taking in the factors of the campsite so the Roswellians and friends would have as many advantages as possible.
“Okay guys, we’ve been her for three hours in which I’ve managed to take a rough head count two times. The number doesn’t change by more than 10-15 each time. Let’s get out of here.”
Slowly they worked their way backwards to the car which was hidden four miles back, just in case.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When they got back to the hotel room Serena and Christina were reclined on one of the two beds eating snacks while a freshly showered Isabel emerged from the bathroom. Max was pacing back and forth.
“Chill out Maxwell, pacing is my job.”
Max turned at the three dirty soldiers, “What the hell took so long?”
Christina interrupted before Michael or one of the others could answer, “I told you not to worry, they’re fine.”
Ava nodded, “What she said. We’re fine.”
Spencer continued, “We just wanted to get as much information about their layout before heading back here.”
Pacified for now Max sat in the chair as they all quieted down and turned to Isabel as she explained to them the creepiness that is Khivar.
“…So we could go now. There’s a couple hours of daylight left.”
Michael, Christina, and Spencer all nodded in agreement, but turned to Max for an answer.
“We’ll leave in two hours. That gives you three a chance to shower and everyone else time to rest up. I’ll run out and get us some food.”
Isabel silently joined him, not wanting any of them to be going out alone.
Spencer grabbed the first shower as Ava munched on some snacks with Christina and Serena. Michael reclined on the remaining bed ignorant to the dirt he was spreading on it as he flipped on the TV.
Waiting for the time to finally end the threat to his family.

Part 51
“Liz what do you mean we can’t follow them!”
Maria had been whining for the past hour. Valenti and Kyle had long ago left the kitchen to watch TV. They knew Maria would inform them of when it was time to pack up and move out.
Alex too was trying to convince Liz, although he was using a less headache inducing method.
“Liz, you who gives up a love that defies all love to save the world is really going to sit here while that world is being fought for. You know they need us. They always need us.”
“Yeah, I can only begin to imagine all the trouble Spaceboy has already gotten into without me there to watch him.”
Liz sighed it wasn’t that she didn’t want to go. Even she knew they would eventually take off into the great unknown to follow their Czechs but she had a feeling they couldn’t go yet so she was stalling.
“Max said…”
She never go to finish, Maria cut her off, “Since when do we listen to Max?”
“Max is King.”
Maria huffed, “Yeah of Antar. We come from planet Earth remember? Despite those nifty little powers you all have now planet Earth our planet.”
Alex continued with her argument,
“Besides we only listen to Max when he gets that voice; you know low and deadly ending with ‘that’s final’ or ‘I’ve made up my mind.’ Plus the guy is being completely irrational leaving four people here with powers to back him up. Besides you’re the Queen.”
Maria went back to begging, “Please Lizzy, Pleaseeeee.”
Liz had to smile at her friends and their efforts. She reached for her necklace that Max had given her when he thought he was leaving the planet. She rubbed it between her fingers trying to find patience when she was hit by a premonition.
~The Four Square was in position facing off with over a thousand men slowly taking them out as their energy drained. Christina was in battle with an older woman, who looked very much like Serena; Christina looked tired but was definitely better off then the woman. Spencer and Serena were in silent battle with Nicholas. Suddenly another Skin sent off a blast as powerful as Michael’s joining in with Nicholas. The warrior siblings still managed to hold their own, just barely though, and much to the disappointment of Nicholas. Khivar and Lonnie loomed to the front of the battle all the sudden. With every one distracted Lonnie hit Christina with a blast directly to the heart taking her out. Michael fell to his knees and the others lost concentration as steady flow of energy from the Granolith stopped. Khivar sent a blast towards the fumbling Four Square laughing as first Isabel fell and then Ava as she was hit with Lonnie’s second blast. ~
Liz gasped as she came out of the vision reaching immediately for her unborn child with her hand and mind for comfort. As her hand touched her stomach she was thrown into another vision. She was completely unprepared for one so soon after the previous; her last coherent thought was she was definitely getting stronger as the baby grew before she fell almost hitting the floor before Alex and Maria grabbed her.
~Max was blasting his way backwards, dragging Michael with him trying to escape. He heard Serena’s yell of pain as he stepped around Spencer’s lifeless body. The duo had suffered with the appearance of the second Skin helping Nicholas. He dropped to the ground next to Michael trying to shake him out of it, “MICHAEL! Damn it. Snap out of it.” Max had no way of knowing that Sundari and Lonnie were wrecking havoc to the General’s mind. Niko impatient as ever sent a blast towards the distracted pair hitting Michael square in the back leaving Max alone.
As they all closed in on Max his lips whispered Liz, in an apology for everything they failed to do. ~
Liz woke up finding herself on the couch with the four others huddled around her.
“What did you see chica?”
“Are you okay Liz?”
“Appointed protector for less then a week an already messing up. Max is going to kill me.”
“Shut up!!”
The loud volume from such a small being immediately had them all silenced.
“Kyle, Alex pack up the SUV, Maria find us a new place to go afterwards, Sheriff can you help me to the car? We’re leaving. NOW!”
For a moment nobody moved to shocked to do anything.
Then all at once they hurried off following the orders of their Queen because it wasn’t little Liz Parker, smallest of small town girls who had given them directions.
It was a frightened Queen demanding her loyal subjects and more importantly, her friends of action. She required action of them in order to prevent whatever had alarmed her so badly. The others didn’t need to know what it was to know they didn’t want to exist in a world were it came true.
Ten minutes later the small town house in Pine Springs was completely abandoned; the front door still wide open as the SUV speed off in the distance.

Part 52
“So...how we going to do this without being seen?”
Max glanced at Isabel before answering,
“Michael will provide cover.”
“Right, Michael will… wait I’ll do what?”
Serena, Ava, and Isabel all smiled at the baffled war general.
Max explained,
“Khivar thinks it’s three of us, you, me and Isabel. He’s not expecting the other four so we can’t let him see all of us until we’re right there. Ready to strike.”
“Still doesn’t explain why I or for that matter how I’m suppose to provide us cover.”
Having caught on Ava explained, “Simple. Uou have the most energy out of all of us besides Christina, and she can’t use hers because it essentially is the Granolith’s at this point and that would alert Khivar to all our presences or at the very least hers and there goes our element of surprise.”
Michael scowled, “Fine. How then.”
Isabel laughed, “Think of Maria, bursting into a room, arms flying, mouth running 100 words per minute I’m sure that will help you kick up a nice sand storm.”
Serena nodded her head encouragingly as Spencer scanned the desert.
“We should move out, better to attack before the sun goes down all the way. The glare will help with Michael’s distraction.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As they closed in on the campsite, the sand picked up nearly blinding all of them.
At the very outskirts of the tents they heard a voice, “I don’t have time for your kiddie tricks Rath. You and Raeanne as youngsters played better tricks than this.”
Suddenly, all the sand fell back to the ground leaving Khivar to see the seven of them.
Max and Ava side by side with Isabel and Michael behind them, slightly to the Four Square's right, behind them was Spencer and Serena shoulder to shoulder. Christina was to the left of the Four Square, right hand already raised ready for attack.
For a moment they saw Khivar’s shock. Next to him Niko appeared and his face was clouded briefly by fear. It didn’t last long however as the he smiled with Khivar’s words.
“How witty of you really. You really think this will make a difference? Now I don’t have to waste my precious time hunting all of you down to kill you. Like the fools you’ve always been you’ve delivered yourselves to me.”
“Go to hell Khivar.” Michael accompanied his comment with a blast easily absorbed by Khivar’s own pale orange shield.
“After you, General.” The title came out as more of a sneer then the fondness when Christina used it or the respect when Serena or Spencer used it or even the humor when Valenti called him that.”
At Khivar’s laughter the Four Square turned to see the troops blocking their escape from behind.
“Ready?”
Isabel gave a brief nod, Ava raised her hand, Michael responded, “Let’s end this Maxwell.”
And then, chaos erupted.
