Michael stood outside of the Deluca house unsure of how to proceed. That afternoon he had sat down and talked to his sister about how he was feeling. He had started dating a girl he had met at School a few months earlier but found that he couldn’t move forward with the relationship because he was still confused over Maria.

When Maria returned they decided to try to be friends. Michael noticed how hard Maria had tried to change her life and that she was a much better person all round now. He couldn’t hold a grudge for her leaving him during a time they should have been together because he knew without a doubt that Maria Deluca was in no condition to have been there for anyone.

‘So do you love Amelia?’ Liz asked him.

‘I’m not sure’ he told her honestly.

‘Does she love you?’

‘She says she does?’

‘Okay so without thinking about it just answer this question. If 20 years time who do you see yourself growing old with’

‘Maria’ he answered and then paled immediately when he thought about what he just said.

‘Do you love her?’ Liz asked gently.

‘Yes’ he said without hesitation ‘I never stopped’

‘Can you forgive her for the things in the past because believe me it’s not easy’ Liz smiled realising how similar her and her brothers situations were.

‘I have already forgiven her and moved past that I guess. We’re friends’ he replied.

‘How does she feel about you?’ Liz asked then.

‘I’m not sure to tell you the truth. She got pretty upset when I started dating Amelia I guess somewhere in the back of my mind I hoped it was because she had feelings for me’

‘Well then my advice to you big brother is simple. It wont matter how much time you spend with Amelia or how much better she might be for you, if you love Maria even half as much as I do Max then I know without a doubt things with you and Amelia will never work out and you will end up hurting her. Break up with her now before things get too out of hand’ Liz told him.

‘Your right’ he offered her a small smile ‘what would I do without you’ he laughed.

‘Let’s hope neither of us has to find that out Mikey’ she grinned.

That was why Michael was here now. He had taken his sisters advice and broken up with Amelia. It had been one of the hardest things he had ever done and she was very upset with him, especially when he told her his reasons why.

Michael walked to the door and knocked twice and then stepped back and waited for the door to be answered.

Maria opened it carrying a box of alien crap, which he assumed was for her mother’s store ‘Hi, um come in’ she said and turned to walk back into the main room.

‘Looks like I chose a bad time’ with a small smile.

‘I didn’t expect you today’ she replied

‘I know I actually wanted to ask you something’ he said nervously and took the box of things in Maria’s hand and put them down on the floor next to them.

‘Oh okay’ she replied without looking up.

‘I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out to dinner with me on Saturday night’

‘Oh! You’re not trying to set me up on a blind date are you?’ she asked.

‘No’

‘Oh so do you mean just you and me like as a date?’ she asked hesitantly

‘Um well yeah if you want to’

‘What about Amelia?’ she questioned.

‘We broke up’ he told her simply.

‘Oh okay’ she smiled.

‘Okay?’

‘Yeah I would love to go out with you Michael’

‘Great’

The sunlight shone brightly through Liz’ open window the next morning waking Liz from a peaceful sleep. She was having the best dream that Max had proposed to her out on the balcony the night before and then they had made love for hours afterwards. The sun reflecting off something caught her attention and she looked down to the stunning ring from her dream on her left hand ring finger, she smiled brightly then realising it hadn’t been a dream after all.

‘It wasn’t a dream’ she murmured. Max’s hands reached down and pulled her too him then ‘I’ll prove it to you again if you life’ he whispered huskily in her ear.

All of a sudden Liz remembered that she had forgotten something important the night before and quickly jumped out of bed. Max watched with a huge grin on his face as she walked around the room naked. ‘I can’t believe I get to do this for the rest of my life’ he said causing Liz to turn around and smile back at him.

‘What are you dong, come back to bed’ he whined.

‘Remember last night I told you that I had something for you?’ she asked climbing back into bed with an envelope in her hand.

‘Yes, I think we got a bit sidetracked’ he laughed and then leaned forward to nip at her neck.

‘Well here it is. Open it’ she told him and handed over the envelope.

‘What is it?’ he asked and began to open it and pull out some pages.

The first was what looked like a copy of Jackson’s birth certificate ‘You got me a copy?’ Max asked confused.

Liz leaned over him and pointed to the name on the birth certificate and Max looked down again. There in black and white was

JACKSON MAXWELL EVANS.

MOTHER: Elizabeth Claudia Parker, Roswell New Mexico

FATHER: Maxwell Phillip Evans, Roswell New Mexico

‘How did you do this?’ he asked looking up at her through tears.

‘Well remember all those forms I shoved in front of you a few months ago?’ she asked he nodded he remembered.

‘Well it was mixed up in them. I wanted it to be a surprise so I had your dad do everything for me’ she smiled sheepishly.

‘Thank you, God I cant believe you did this’ he grinned. Nothing had ever prepared him for what she had just given him. His son, their son now had his name.

‘Guess we’ll all have the same name soon’ she said then.

‘Your right about that’ he said and pulled her on top of him. ‘We will all have the same name soon’ and he pulled her down for a kiss

Epilogue

‘Jackson’ Liz called out to her 5 year old son. Liz Evan’s was rushing around their apartment in Boston trying to get her son ready for their trip to Roswell for Michael and Maria’s wedding.

It had been two years since they had gotten back together and Jackson now had a baby cousin, thinking about it Liz placed her own hand on her abdomen, she had a surprise for her own family for when they returned home to Roswell.

‘Coming Mummy’ he called out.

Liz smiled when she saw her son walk towards her, he looked so much like his father. Thinking about Max made her smile, it always did. They had married 6 months after announcing their engagement to their families and it still felt like the honeymoon period. Max had graduated a few months earlier and was now working with one of the top law firms in Boston.

‘You ready to go see Nanna, Poppy, Grandma and Grandpa Pumpkin?’ she asked.

‘Yep and I’ll get to play with Bethany too wont I Mummy?’

Bethany Anne Parker had been born 12 months after Maria and Michael had gotten back together she was named for her favourite and only Aunt. It hadn’t been planned but both were so happy about it.

‘Of course you will pumpkin’ she smiled thinking how soon he wouldn’t have to worry about being lonely anymore.

‘I’m home’ Max called out as he entered their apartment.

‘Hi baby’ Liz called out.

‘Are we ready to go?’ he asked leaning into give her a kiss and then bending down to do the same to his son.

‘Yeah lets go’

Michael and Maria’s wedding went off without a hitch. Max had been the best man and Liz the Matron of honour. The four of them had mended the rift betweens their friendships over the last two years and were now as close as family could be.

The night after the wedding Liz asked her parents if they would look after Jackson for a couple of hours and asked Max to take a ride with her. Liz drove them out to the dessert to the place they had first made love, and created Jackson.

‘What are we doing out here?’ Max smiled remembering the last time he had been out here. ‘I haven’t been here since I was here with you’ he told her.

‘Me either but I could find this place with me eyes closed’

Liz got out of the car and Max followed her ‘It’s a beautiful night’ she smiled and he came up behind her placed his arms around her. ‘It is’ he said nuzzling his face in her hair.

‘Hmm I love you’ she whispered.

‘I love you too Mrs Evans’ he smiled, he would never get tired of saying that just like she would never get tired of hearing it.

‘So what’s on your mind sweetie, you’ve had this smile on your face for days’

Liz laughed ‘I cant get anything past you can I?’

‘No and I wouldn’t have it any other way’ he replied.

‘Well I’ve got a lot to smile about’ she told him and then took the hand clasped tightly with hers lower and over abdomen, over their child.

It took Max a couple of minutes to work out what she was doing and he immediately turned her around to face him a small smile gracing his features ‘Sweetie?’ he questioned.

‘I think we’re going to need a bigger place to live come Christmas babe’ she told him.

‘Oh god your pregnant’ he yelled and picked her up and swung her around

‘Yes about three months’ she grinned when he put her down.

He pulled her towards him then for a beautiful kiss ‘Thank you, for my life’ he whispered.

‘Thankyou for my beautiful children’ she whispered back and then let him pull her into his arms again.

Mackenzie Isabelle Evans and Madison Alexandra Evans were born into the world 6 months later.

Liz and Max’s journey was finally complete.
