I look down at the check and then back up at Max and smile. Impulsively, I give him a big hug, rubbing his back briefly. "Thank you, Max. This will really go a long way to helping repair and expand the orphanage." I pull back to grin at him and tease, "I still think it's somewhat wrong to take it from you considering the ordeal you went through up there but...well, thanks again." Glancing back at Todd, I see that he has his clipboard out now. Heaven help me! "Max, I'll be right back ok?"
I walk over to Todd and ask what's going on. He points to the top piece of paper on his clipboard and says, "You need to see these numbers! It's incredible, Liz. We're doing so much better than we originally predicted. I mean, I knew we spent a little more than we budgeted for publicity but I honestly thought we didn't do enough. I guess I was wrong. Word of mouth has gotten around and it looks like we're going to make a great deal of money on this carnival!"
That's the best news I've heard all day and it totally lifts my spirits. I throw my arms around Todd and hug him tightly, laughing and place kisses on each of his cheeks. "Todd! That's wonderful news! I'm so happy!"
He laughs and wraps his arms around me, rocking me briefly before pulling back. "Well, most of it is due to your influence, my friend. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you so much!"

How I want to KILL him right now. I have never felt such strong hatred for a guy I have never even spoken to before. But as he does that to Liz...all I can think is how I hate him... how Liz deserves better. Has Liz slept with all of her friends? I bite my lip nervously as I think about it. I know I sleep with a lot of women but I don't make friends of them too.
I sigh as I lean up against a tree, waiting for Liz to return. Does she like him? Does she like Kyle? Why do I feel so...

Todd nods towards Max and I look over at him. He looks a little lost and...something else. I can't put a name to the emotion on his face but it's one I've only seen one other time, when Max wanted to talk to Kyle. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" Todd asks with a grin.
I raise my eyebrows at him. "Sure. But he's interested in me, Todd. I'm pretty sure he's not...your type," I tell him with a smile. I wave for him to follow me using one finger and walk over to Max. "I'm sorry, Max, I should have probably introduced you sooner. Max, this is Todd Kingston. He's one of the directors at the orphanage. Todd, this is Max Evans."
Todd throws his hand out for Max to shake and says, "It's nice to meet you, Max. Any friend of Liz's...well, you know."

I stare at his hand for a minute before slowly shaking it. "Likewise" I stae, not meaning it at all. "So..."
I look between the two of them before saying, "Liz... a word?" I link my arm through hers and lead her away slightly, "So um... how do you know Todd....." I swallow before adding, "You seem rather... close." I say lamely. I flicker my eyes at Todd. What a git....
"So... you two seem like a nice... thing... frienship... couple...." I say knowing that I sound completely jealous. But I'm not! Absolutely not! It's just that.... well I'm first in the queue for the fucking thats all....

I'm rather taken aback by Max's response...it borders dangerously on rude. I glance over my shoulder at Todd as I allow Max to drag me aside and he just grins back, as if he knows something I don't. I turn back to Max in confusion. What in the world is going on?
"So um... how do you know Todd.....You seem rather... close." His eyes flick to Todd a couple of times and back to me and it seems like there's an explanation for all of this just at the corner of my subconsciousness. Then he adds, "So... you two seem like a nice... thing... frienship... couple...."
And the lightbulb finally goes on! He's jealous! Max is jealous of Todd. I almost laugh out loud at the idea. Poor Max. He doesn't know that he has absolutely nothing to be jealous about. Or maybe I'm just blowing his reaction out of proportion. Better make sure. I tilt my head to one side and smile a little. "Todd is actually a very good friend of mine. He works out at the gym over by my house and he has a thing about public showers so a lot of times he drops by to use ours," I tell him, watching closely for the final clue. I know men and Max does sound jealous but he's supposed to be a really big player right? Or maybe I'm just finally getting to him. As soon as I get his reaction, I'll explain that he has nothing to worry about with Todd.

Uh oh. Something happened again. Tess is acting more like she did last night. What happened between a few minutes ago and now? Oh yeah, Max got mad at me and Tess was left alone with Isabel, Alex, and Liz. I frown a bit at her but then take her hand and lead her outside the tent, in the opposite direction of Max and Liz. I figure that the best way to fix all this is to be open and honest, not overly so but at least lay my cards on the table so to speak.
When we stop, I turn to face her and take a deep breath. "Tess, I wanted to pull you aside to be honest with you. I like you...a lot and I really think we hit it off really well. I want to try being a couple. It doesn't have to be exclusive if you don't want but it will be on my end. So what do you think?"

Yup. Definitely jealous. I can't help the small giggle that escapes. I move closer to Max and say quietly, "Max, there is absolutely nothing between Todd and I. I'm not exactly his type. You two don't play for the same team, if you get my meaning." I grin at the look on Max's face. He's still a little confused. "Max, Todd is gay. He doesn't go around advertising it but he is in a happy relationship of 5 years with his boyfriend Jackie. Todd is nothing but another girl friend to me. In fact, until I assured him that I was interested in you, he wanted an introduction for an entirely different reason." I look over at Todd who still has a grin from ear to ear on his face. He knew! I narrow my eyes at him. "Shame on him. Scoping out other guys while Jackie is out of town on business."
