"I think any night is a weird night for a black out since they are so rare." I reply and step away from him quickly
We were standing too close,I could smell the cologne he always uses well most of the time at any rate, the one I love, spicy and minty at the same time,if that makes sense.
"Do you want to go sit out on the balcony, there's a lovely moon out tonight?"

"I think any night is a weird night for a black out since they are so rare." Isabel replies, and I'm very aware of how close she is. But then she steps away sort of quickly. Okay, so that was a little odd. Maybe she just doesn't like standing close to people.
'Or, maybe she likes you,' I think to myself, but I shoot it down almost immediately. Yeah, right, she thinks we're just great friends.
"Do you want to go sit out on the balcony, there's a lovely moon out tonight?" She asks, walking out, and I follow her, nodding.
"Yeah, sure. Plus it's a little brighter out there," I say in reply, stepping out onto the balcony. I always thought it was so cool that she had a balcony, we used to play games out here, when we were younger.

I sit on the swing which I had my mother install for my 13th birthday. It's so convenient for nights when I just want to sit outside and not really think about anything in particular,it's really a relaxing past time.
"Yeah, sure. Plus it's a little brighter out there." Alex says as he follows me and I see a grin on his face accompanied by a momentary far away look,as if he was thinking of something that happened a long time ago
We used to play here when we were in elementary and junior-high school.Of course, that is probably what he is thinking about. We even had a water fight once out here during a heat-wave.
"Are you thinking about the times when we used to play out here?" I ask him as I pat the seat, indicating for him to sit down next to me "Remember that water fight.I kicked butt that time."

"Are you thinking about the times when we used to play out here?" Isabel asks from the swing she's had for a few years. She motions for me to come sit down next to her, and I do, smiling as I make myself comfortable. "Remember that water fight. I kicked butt that time." She says, thinking about the heat wave a few years ago.
"Yeah," I say with a laugh, remembering it pretty clearly. "You pretty much dominated." Of course, I was sort of letting her win because I was nice like that, but she never needs to know.
"I remember that time we had that cookout up here in the middle of the winter and your mom got all worried because she saw the smoke and thought the house was on fire."

"I remember that time we had that cookout up here in the middle of the winter and your mom got all worried because she saw the smoke and thought the house was on fire." he reminds me with a grin on his face
I start laughing at the memory of my mother rushing in to my room screaming for all of us to get out of the apartment and then she saw us all on the balcony and was horribly embarrassed.
"Yeah and then she thought we all were smoking and went off on a tangent until she saw the grill.Oh god...that was one of the best nights of my life. The memory of it always makes me laugh." I say wiping the tears from my eyes with the back of my hand
Tucking my legs under me I make myself more comfortable."You know something...funnily enough almost all of my happiest memories include you.You were always there...I missed that over the past few weeks.I'm glad you lied to me." I sort of whisper because I am not very comfortable laying my feelings out like this

"Yeah and then she thought we all were smoking and went off on a tangent until she saw the grill.Oh god...that ws one of the best nights of my life. The memory of it always makes me laugh." Isabel adds, laughing hysterically. I join her, the memory clear as day.
Then she sobers up and looks at me, tucking her legs underneath her and causing the swing to move a little. "You know something...funnily enough almost all of my happiest memories include you.You were always there...I missed that over the past few weeks.I'm glad you lied to me."[/i]
"Yeah, I guess I missed hanging out with you too," I tell her, even though the real reason I've been avoiding her is because I'm worried I'll say something about liking her and ruin our friendship.

Seeing that we are bondng once again and being open with each other after what seems like years when in reality it's only been some weeks I decide to ask him the question that has had me worried for sometime now.
Without breaking eye contact and inwardly thinking that I'm crazy to ask this but I have to since it's been eating at me since the day we started high school and I'd been seeing the girls eyeing him I plunge right in to it "Do you like anyone...I mean any girl yet, romantically?"
Neither of us have discussed our crushes since junior-high.Some how things changed when we started high-school.I wait with baited breath for him to answer. If he says yes,I'll have to really pretend to be a loving supportive friend.

"Do you like anyone...I mean any girl yet, romantically?" I hear, and I turn to look at Isabel, glad my face isn't showing the deer in headlights look I'm feeling.
"Umm, no, not at the moment," I say calmly, mentally slapping myself. Well, what was I supposed to say, yes? Because then she'd ask me who, and I'd have to make up a name, and it would all come back to bite me in the butt. And I can't tell her the truth.
"Why, do you?" I ask carefully, praying that she says no.
