I know this sounds silly...but I saw us..together..we were happy--everything was a red tint--we were at the Vasquez Rocks...and when I looked up I saw this wierd V shaped star thing incrested in the sky..." I looked at my hands...then looked at him. "When we were together...I felt safe...It felt like h--home.." I was hesitate so say anything else. "Could all this be possible Max?" I asked him.

(Damn! I got behind again!!! How does this keep happening, lol? Oh, and I didn't know where Maria was supposed to be, so I put her with Alex and Michael.)

I glared at Michael out of the corner of my eye as they talked about Liz's new look, still remembering our conversation from earlier.
"It's a new student, she must have transferred....and?"
"Michael, she's not a transfer--" I started, but was interrupted when Alex and Isabel joined us.
Michael immediately started up a conversation, completely disregarding what I had to say. "Hey Iz! Hey Alex! I'm good, but Maria here is pointing randomly at some new transfer student and looking amazed. I’m starting to wonder what she's on."
I sent him a scorching look.
"I was joking! You know I love you, really hon."
"Michael, it's--!" I burst out, but the bell rang, signaling the beginning of school and effectively cutting me off. I let out a growl of frustration as everyone walked off, leaving me alone.
I drifted back to the conversation in front of me just in time to hear Michael say, ""Alex my man....I’m guessing that Max happened." I huffed at the comment, and silently applauded Isabel when she slapped him.
"Hey it's true!" he defended. "I mean she has the incentive! Get in the popular crowd and get Max!"
I let out a growl at my insensitive boyfriend. He turned to look questioningly at me and I spat, "Maybe she just wanted to feel good about herself! Maybe she wanted to look better and feel better, Michael! But no, since everything revolves around the jocks at this school, namely you and oh-so-mighty Max, it has to be because of him. You know, even though I tried to comfort him this summer, I have to say that Max was a world class JERK!! He told her he liked her and then basically said she wasn't cool enough for him! He doesn't deserve her!"
And then, after sending him a look that could kill, I stomped off, leaving him staring at me in shock.

I turned to look at him after that last line; it was so sweet that I felt tears prick my eyes. I guess it was true that he wasn't a jock... well he was, but not the 'I'm the best, watch my skills, look at my fan club' type. He was more of an artist who did basketball on the side. And it was true that Max Evans put him in the shadows when they played, there was no doubt about that.
"Michael..." I started softly, but then the rest of his speech sank into me, and my anger at Max flared again. "What does Max have to get sorted??" I spat out somewhat nastily. "She's going to be popular, after all; it's only a matter of days with that new look. Won't she be acceptable to him now??"

I stopped and stared at him, thinking about all of the things he said. I just didn't see how being with Liz could ruin Max's career, but I supposed that scouts looked into that kind of thing, and probably would frown upon her. I told myself to let it go and turned my attention back to Michael, who was a second away from getting on his knees and begging. I smiled inwardly, thrilled that I had him so ‘whipped’ as Alex called it, and that he cared for me so much.
“Ok Michael, I understand.” I said softly. “You're forgiven. And for the record, I guess Max’s choice was pretty hard, and I don’t know what I would have done if I had to say, choose between you and a singing career.” I told him.
