Hee! I edited it a bit, I got too excited and had to tone it down a notch. :)

I totally don't get your voting system. To me, the popular vote seems much fairer and easier. But with the allocation of electoral votes, does it go by the state's population? Like if it that were the case then Cali getting more votes than Nebraska makes sense.

The number of electoral college votes per state is based on the number of House Representatives and Senators. The number of House Representatives, I believe, is based on population.

I think the electoral college process is based on the idea that the general American public are not educated enough to vote for President. And maybe that was true... 200 years ago. Maybe people think the electoral college is outdated and the President should be determined by popular vote. In the 2000 election, Al Gore actually won the popular vote, but lost the election because he didn't win the electoral college vote.

No...I was a history major in college and we talked about this.....at the founding of this country the smaller states were scared that the bigger ones...New York.....would gain more power through a popular vote due to the fact their population was so large. Why would someone come to say Georgia or even listen to what they have to say...or care about them... when they're are more people living in NYC than there is in all of Georgia? They were scared that anyone running for office would only go to the major areas of population and care for them and totally leave out the small states and their population. So they created the electoral college to counter balance the larger states population. The larger states may have more people but when you add up the electoral counts of all the smaller states togeather it counter balances the larger populated ones.

So it's a way the smaller states don't get left or discarded for larger states such as New York or California today who have larger populations.

I hope that made sense

Yes, killjoy, that made sense. I faintly remember learning about that in history, too.

I just know that a lot of people in Nebraska, for instance, don't vote because they figure that our state only has 5 electoral votes to give out anyway and that it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. :( Of course it does, but not as much as the "big" states matter.

I don't know. I'm actually really grossing myself out with all these political thoughts, so I'll abandon them for now. America's Next Top Model is on in 50 minutes. I have to think about that.

It makes sense but I don't know, something about it doesn't sit right but I am thinking about it in a different cultural mindset and imagining how it could work where I live.

LOL, another show we both watch? I hope Samantha goes home, she is not top model material.
