"Actually no...I have not been using it but I was thinking after Izzy and myself see this wedding planner, we will probably need some retail therapy...on you of course"
I smile. "Great. Glad your happy. So Alex isn't going with you to see the wedding planner? Cos Im considering taking this afternoon off. I dont have any appointments that cant be done another day, and it might be cool to hang out with my future brother in law..." I smile. Could be rather uncomfortable actually...but I can always try to see if theres any sense of reason with the guy about this whole marriage thing..."
"Would you mind asking him if he wants to for me?" I ask.

Suspicsion takes a hold of me, I mean Max likes Alex but for Max to mention to do with the wedding makes me worry.
"Would you mind asking him if he wants to for me?"
"Sure, Hey Alex Max wants to know if your free this afternoon to hang out with him?" I say turning to watch Alex for his answer.

Tess turns to me to ask if I want to hang with Max this afternoon. I pull out my Palm Pilot, a gift from Isabel two Christmases ago, and check my schedule. “Sure,” I say. “I have one client I have to go see right after I finish here but then I’m free for the rest of the afternoon. Maybe we could invite Michael to tag along with us too. Lemme talk to him to set up where and when we’re gonna meet.”
Tess says something else into the phone and then hands it to me. I wink at Isabel whose eyes have narrowed for some reason and she’s glaring at the phone. Confused about her reaction, I mentally shrug it off as I address Max. “Hey, man, what’s the word?” When I see Isabel roll her eyes and smile again, I can’t help but grin. I know I’m a bit of an idiot sometimes but just to see her smile over it makes it so worth it.

I move to the armoire in the corner of my office where I hung my other clothes up earlier and open one of the drawers with the albums of other weddings I’ve done. They are some of my best. The first album I made was one that was given to me as an engagement gift when I was engaged. I pull it out and the sight of it still produces strong emotions. I had tried to give it back to Maria after…after the disaster that was supposed to be my wedding but Maria had said to keep it and use it anyway. I wish I had made her take it back most of the time, but sometimes I realize that the pain and anger has gotten better…not great but better.
I hear the door chime below and rush to the top of the stairs just in time to see Mr. Manning disappearing out of it again. I walk back into my office and go over to the drawer and pull out all the albums and stack them on my desk. I hope that Miss Evans and her friend get here soon. I’m always a big emotional mess when I start a new wedding. Once things get going and I’m in the middle of planning, I get wrapped up in my job instead of memories and I’m fine.

“Hey, man, what’s the word?”
Yeah...did I mention Isabel's guy is... well strange. Funny....but strange non the less.
"Nothing much. Just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out today. I hear the ladies are going out doing..." I pause, about to say the dreaded word that I hate... "Wedding things. So I was just wondered if my future brother-in-law wanted to hang out...do the male bonding thing" I say.
Ergh. Why why WHY are they getting married? I mean why cant they stay happy? Why cant they see it?! Why is the world wedding crazy?! Weddings = death of relationship. Why doesnt anyone else seem to see it? Fortunitely, as far Im aware at least, Tess knows where I stand...
I think.
"So are you up for it?" I ask.
~~~~~MARIA~~~~~
I sigh as I head back into Liz's office and see her with a load of albums out on her desk. I know what shes thinking about. My loser cousin Sean. She hates doing this bit. She tries to hide it from me, but I see it. She loves and hates weddings in equal proportion. And sometimes I bet it kills her.
I step further into the room. I quickly go round to behind her and gently start to massage her shoulders. "Im sure they'll be here soon" I tell her quietly. "Is there anything else I can do for you sweetie?" I add as I start to gently massage in small concentric circles. "Anything at all?"
I smirk at Max’s comment about what the girls are doing. Isabel has told me how he feels about getting married. Honestly, I think she used to agree with him. I’ve known Max as long as I’ve known Isabel but whereas I have learned who the real Isabel is, I haven’t really spent a lot of time with my future brother-in-law or Michael, Max’s best friend and another brother-type in Isabel’s life.
“Absolutely!” I answer enthusiastically. “Just name the time and place of where you want to meet and I’ll be there!”
~Liz~
I haven’t even noticed Maria came back upstairs until I feel her start to massage my shoulders. I’ve been busted. I know she knows what I’ve been thinking about and I can’t help feeling guilty about it. She’s been there for me since Sean left me standing at the altar over a year and a half ago. She’s the one who’s given me the pep talks, allowed me to cry, to vent, to scream, even throw things.
“Is there anything else I can do for you sweetie? Anything at all?” she asks now, once again being the best friend in the world.
“Only one other thing if you don’t mind. Can you call Kyle for me and ask if that gazebo he’s building for the Campbell wedding is going to be ready for them to see this weekend? I promised them I’d ask and Kyle will kill me if I ask one more time if it’s ready.” I know the smile on my face isn’t quite reaching my eyes but it’s the most genuine one I can dredge up right now. I’ll be ok once Isabel Evans agrees to allow me to do her wedding. It will be the event of my career. I can’t stop the tears that fill my eyes as I give Maria a real smile thinking about our friendship. “Thanks, Maria, you’re the best!”
“Absolutely! Just name the time and place of where you want to meet and I’ll be there!”
Perfect. Im thinking some where with alcohol where I can knock some sense into him... Hopefully. And if not... Ill have to come up with something else.
"Um...how about a bar? The on 29th Avenue?" I ask smiling. Now this...this should be entertainment! Alex isnt exactly someone I would see drinking!
She gives me a not very sincere smile, but I know shes trying for my sakes so I give her a small smile back.
I watch as tears fill her eyes and I just wish I could kill Sean and remove him from ever being in her life. She gives me a real smile and I rub her arm quickly, in a friendly manner.
“Thanks, Maria, you’re the best!”
"Not a problem hon...and believe me...I know I am" I say wiggling my eyebrows at her. And with that I go back out into the main shop and dial the number for Kyle.
"Hey Kyle, its Maria."
”How about a bar…the one on 29th avenue? Max asks and I smile.
I may not have been one of the “cool kids” but I can drink with the rest of them. My older brother, Kevin, was a college party animal and when he would come home to visit we would get plastered together. He’s now the owner of several night clubs in LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas. I can now out drink him. Don’t get me wrong, I still get plastered but it takes a few more drinks than Max would ever dream I could handle.
“Sounds great! You wanna call Mike and ask him to join us?” I answer.
~Liz~
I have to laugh at Maria’s typical response and I’m ok again. Taking a deep breath, I push all thoughts of Sean DeLuca and my ruined wedding out of my head to make room for ideas to flow for Isabel Evans.
“Sounds great! You wanna call Mike and ask him to join us?”
I smile. Ah yes...Mikey. The baker boy.
"Sure" I tell him. "Ill call right now." I tell him. "Well, Ill meet you at two at the bar" I tell him. "Bye Whitman" I say before putting down the phone. I quickly buzz my receptionist on my phone and say into it "Get Guering on the phone" I tell her snappily before turning to look out of my window again.
Now the pub with baker boy and future brother law...this could be entertainment!
