That's the girl we all know! She ran and if I'm honest: I would've run too if someone wanted to slice me open to recover a device! Although that device was getting me in danger.
Let's hope Michael and Isabel will find her. Soon!! Fingers crossed!

Re: THE ASSASSIN - AU/CC/Adult - Part 10 - 3/29/15
I want to feel sorry for Maria. I really do. But her taking off and not being able to protect herself from the dangers a head is stupid. I just hope that Michael can find her before the next assassin does. Who knows, maybe Max and Liz will find her before the next assassin and save her hopefully. She needs to get that tractor out.
I can't help wondering if Michael might have a tracker as well.
This gets better and better. I am so glad that Valkyrie is willing to help Michael and Maria. I sure as hell hope that between the two of them they can take out The Circle.
Looking forward to reading more.

Part 11
begonia9508: That’s probably true, lol, but it wasn’t that long ago that she learned he was there to kill her. Now add in the scary thought that she’s been tagged like a wild animal and this dangerous man wants to basically perform an operation to remove it... she’s freaked out and she reacted on instinct and ran from him.
L-J-L 76: Thanks! We’ll check in with Max and Liz today. They’re not likely to hang back and do nothing. Even though watching Maria was their job, she had become a good friend.
Earth2Mama: Lol, really.
Dumb, yes, but rational thought pretty much went out the window when he started talking about tracking devices and then went in search of something to help him remove it.
Eva: Lol, right? No doubt! The device does put her in danger, but accepting the fact that it’s there and that her assassin-turned-protector wants to cut it out, well... that didn’t go over very well.
We’ll find out today if they can pick up her trail.
keepsmiling7: Lol, good move!
Hopefully the cast of characters will fall into place soon.
sarammlover: Lol, well, he has done that and she grudgingly appreciated it. However, his insistance that she’d been tagged for the purpose of tracking her like a wild animal wasn’t news that was received well. And then he calmly stated he intended to remove it... yeah, lol, we would’ve run too.
Roswelllostcause: Lol, if she was thinking rationally she might agree with you. But... she’s definitely lost her grip on rational thought for the time being.
Alien_Friend: It wasn’t Maria’s smartest move to run away, but yet she doesn’t trust Bane aka Michael fully and he was getting to cut this thing out of her… Let’s see how far she gets and who finds her first.
Val and Alex will make a great team to help M&M!
Part 11
Home of Liz Parker and Max Evans – Washington, DC – December 2015
“You’re up awful early, sweetheart.” Max poked his head into the kitchen, dark hair standing up in all directions and eyes narrowed to tiny slits against the blinding light. He pushed the swinging door open and walked in barefooted and wearing nothing more than his dark green boxer briefs.
Liz looked up from the newspaper, her eyes clinging to his naked chest for a second or two before she met his eyes. Yeah, she would never get tired of looking at his strong, muscled body. Never ever! “Couldn’t sleep.”
He didn’t have to ask why. She had been on edge ever since Maria had disappeared like she had been swallowed whole from the ground. Walking over to stand behind her chair, he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her cheek before studying the newspaper on the table. “Anything in there?”
“No.” She sighed and tipped her head back to look at him. “She hasn’t reported missing yet.” And that was odd, because even though their friend hadn’t been missing for that long, the press normally took a great interest in such things. “Do you think Halverson’s as clueless as he pretends to be about what happened?”
“That’s definitely a no,” he said and walked over to fill himself a mug of coffee. “If he really thought someone kidnapped her for no reason other than money or blackmail he wouldn’t hesitate to make it public.”
“Agreed,” Liz lifted one foot onto the chair and hugged her leg while sipping her own dark, hot liquid. “He has to know something. I’ll bet he’s involved in something and that’s the reason he’s keeping it quiet for now.” She ran a hand through her long, dark hair with a deep sigh. “I’m starting to believe Maria was right all along and her family’s passing was anything but an accident.”
“That would mean her uncle was involved in it as well.”
“I know.” This whole issue was giving her a headache. “If only it made a little more sense.”
“We’ll figure it out,” Max assured her. He had no clue how at the moment, but they were both already in this too deep to ignore the foul taste of it.
“I just hope it’s not too late, Max. What if she really met that guy from her past? What would that mean? Was he involved in all of this right from the start?”
“Hmm,” he sat down across from her, “he was pretty young in 2005. What if he just showed up at the right time because someone’s after her and instead of wanting to get rid of her, he’s trying to protect her?”
They both knew it was all speculation with a lot of IF’s and no facts, but it was a lot nicer to believe that Maria had someone on her side.
“I just hope she’s okay.” Liz picked at the edge of the newspaper, tearing off tiny pieces and tossing them around the table. “All she wanted was answers. Can we really blame her?”
“No, but if there are people who want to hide the truth then they’ve probably always had an eye on her.”
“Yeah, an’ maybe her uncle was one of them.”
“That’s why we shouldn’t talk to him about this anymore,” Max said.
“He probably won’t talk to us anyway. He fired us and for all he cares our job’s over and we’ve moved on.”
The man couldn’t be more wrong, he thought. This whole thing stank big time and they wouldn’t just drop it because it’s what he wanted. “So what do we know?” He leaned over and grabbed a pencil and a notepad from the nearby counter and started to write. “There was the 2005 explosion in Cape Cod, a guy named Michael Guerin who was officially declared dead, and Maria claimed to see him the other day.”
“Then we have the ever so overprotective Senator Halverson, who keeps the fact that his niece is missing on the down low for now,” Liz added.
“A niece, who’s been very interested in her past and was investigating it on her own. Plus she met someone in the middle of the night – probably that Michael guy.”
Liz nodded. “And she included her friend, Alex Whitman, in her investigation.”
Max looked at his girlfriend after writing his name down with a big question mark and the note – what does he know? “Should we go talk to this guy? Maybe she told him something. Or he can at least tell us what he gave her the other day at the café.”
“Good idea,” she agreed, looking at her wristwatch with a grimace. “I doubt he’d be happy about a visit before 6am.”
He snorted. “Yeah, we should probably wait at least another hour.”
“Yeah,” she admitted with a heavy sigh and leaned back. “Any idea what we’re gonna do in the meantime?”
His gaze shifted from serious to playful in the matter of a second and a slow grin spread across his lips. “Why don’t you get rid of that shirt?” He knew she was wearing nothing under his old high school football jersey and just that thought alone awoke certain body parts.
She looked down at herself and then back up at him with a little smile. “Right here?” Oh, she knew that dark, lustful look in his eyes. After all these years he was still able to fuel a fire in her that hadn’t been there a just second before. Her foot dropped from the seat so she could rub her thighs together.
“Something wrong with right here?” His large hand spread over the newspaper and he swiped it to the floor at the same time as he got up and lifted her from her seat to the table’s surface.
“Nothing I guess,” she breathed and held her arms up when his fingers wrapped around the hem of the shirt.
Yep, this was definitely one good way to pass the time.
Unknown motel in a suburb of Washington DC – December 2015
“I’m so going to jail for this,” Alex muttered when he turned his laptop on. His blood was still filled with adrenaline, his heart rate far from normal.
“Don’t worry. I’d kill you before they could get anything out of you,” Valkyrie winked at him when he tilted his head towards her.
“Nice,” he snorted. It sounded surreal, but they had just broken into Reginald Halverson’s house while the senator was out at another meeting in another state, supposedly his last trip before going on vacation with his niece for the holidays. There hadn’t been much security around so the main problem had been the security system itself.
“You did well out there,” she told him appreciatively. “Could it be that you’re used to doing illegal things?”
“Not at this level,” he muttered, typing in his password when the laptop asked for it.
They had gone into the house quickly and she had searched several rooms, leaving the digital world of Halverson’s computer to him. He had managed to make a copy of the locked files on the hard drive, now he needed to find a way to open them without destroying the contents.
Slowly, he slipped the flash drive in and waited for it to load. “Have you heard any news about Maria? Where is she?”
Valkyrie looked down at him, studying his features while she considered her answer. “She was with a friend.”
“Was?”
“She ran away.”
Alex lifted an eyebrow. “When you say friend…”
“Coworker,” she clarified.
He nodded carefully. They hadn’t talked about her job but she’d made no secret of her occupation and he was still trying to get over the realization that this wasn’t an action movie.
“I don’t blame her. Bane can be a pain in the ass,” Valkyrie walked over to the table and released several guns from her body to place them there, “but she’s in excessive danger, Mr. Whitman. If we don’t find her before the next assassin does she’ll hit the ground faster than anyone can catch her.”
Alex swallowed. “Is there anything we can do to help?”
“Unless she’s somehow able to contact you, the best thing we can do is get into that system and get some answers.”
“Alright,” he turned back to his computer and opened up the first file. “I think it’ll take a while before I find the right combination for the password.”
“It’s probably something political,” she muttered as she started to methodically clean her weapons.
“Yeah, but I don’t have any interest in politics.” He punched the buttons like crazy for more than fifteen minutes, releasing a frustrated grunt now and then or wiping his face tiredly.
“I thought you were good.”
He glared at her. “You can try if you want.”
“If I was a hacker I wouldn’t need you, would I?” She just looked at him. “Try different variations of the word Circulus.”
He frowned, but then nodded. It took him another few minutes and he almost expected another red DENIED, when suddenly the green ACCEPTED box suddenly appeared. “Jackpot. Care to tell me how you knew that?”
“I’m just good like that.”
“It’s a contact list,” he muttered, reading to the names but not recognizing a single one.
“Can you click on the names?”
“No, it’s just a list of names, no links.”
“There has to be another file in there somewhere otherwise the names and why he has them is useless.”
He went through another few files when he stumbled over a few of the names again. “Obviously they’re part of an organization or group. Several meetings are listed.”
She lifted her head to look at him. “Does he have anything in there about what went on in the meetings?”
“I don’t know,” he muttered, reading through it. “I haven’t found anything yet. Only a list of members, a location, times. That doesn’t make-”
“What?” She got to her feet when he suddenly stopped speaking. “What is it?”
He pointed at the screen when it showed a scanned handwritten file. “That’s an FBI report.”
“Daniel Deluca?” she read aloud. The name being in the senator’s files couldn’t be a coincidence. “Can it be opened?”
“It’s just a scan.” He zoomed in and sharpened the image to make it easier to read.
Her eyebrows lifted when she saw the agent’s field notes. He had been investigating The Circle and he had been close to uncovering several key figures in its leadership.
“Maria’s dad was onto something,” Alex said, pointing at the date. “This’s from April 2005, just three weeks before the explosion.”
“Then her belief that the explosion wasn’t an accident must be true.” She had no doubt it was true. The man had tried to uncover a secret organization that worked in the shadows of the very government he had sworn an oath to and he had paid with his life, with the lives of almost every member of his family.
“Deluca’s report says he was working on proving the organization was involved in the assassination during the political summit in Moscow, 2004.”
“If he was going after them it’s amazing he lived as long as he did.”
“How do you know about The Circle?” He turned towards her and it hit him right at that moment. “You work for them.”
She shrugged one shoulder and moved back to the table, picking up the Sig and taking it apart to clean it.
He swallowed. Had she just picked him to get to know how much Halverson knew? What if she was sent by The Circle to have him work for them until he was no longer needed?
She chuckled humorlessly, sensing his thoughts. “If they felt Halverson was a credible threat he’d already be dead. They can control him. They always have.”
“And now they want Maria dead because like her father, she’s eager to find the truth.”
“She’s become a threat to their existence. A threat the senator can no longer control.” She began to reassemble the weapon, slowly, methodically. “Taking out targets that compromise our security, that’s one thing. They’ve maintained control over us since we were brought into the organization as hired guns. The only way to put an end to their activities is to bring them down legally. We need information, hard evidence, and then we need to get it out to someone in power.”
“We?”
“You know a hell of a lot more than I do about hacking. I’m good, but you’re better, and I’m not foolish or egotistical enough to ignore that. Bane will do everything in his power to keep your friend alive, and since my deadline to kill him is on top of me, they’ll be coming after me next. If need be I’ll hold you against your will to get your cooperation, but somehow I don’t think that’ll be necessary.”
“What have I gotten into?” Alex grumbled and slouched down in his seat to relax, but just at that moment his cell started to ring.
“Don’t answer that,” she ordered.
He frowned at the caller ID. “It’s an unknown number. Fixed line.”
There was always the chance the Deluca woman was calling him. She knew him, trusted him, and it wasn’t much of a surprise that she’d make contact the moment she could get to a phone. “Keep it brief.”
He nodded and picked up. “Hello?”
“Alex? Alex, is that you?” Maria was so relieved she was practically sobbing.
“Maria?” He made eye contact with the woman in front of him while he said her name. “Where are you, girl? I’ve been worried out of my mind.”
“I’m not exactly sure. Some tiny little town in Pennsylvania. I think it’s called Courtland and it’s about the size of my bedroom. The deputy pulled me over for driving erratically and then he found out the truck I was driving was stolen, and it was, Alex, but I swear to you, I didn’t do it! There was this guy and he was gonna kill me, but then he saved me, and I don’t even know why they wanna kill me or even who they are. And then he broke into this house and we stayed there overnight and when he woke me up this morning he said I had some kinda transmitter thingy under my skin and he wanted to take it out so when he went to look for a knife or something to get to it I ran. I was so scared, but I didn’t know what else to do. And then I didn’t know where to go so I just started driving and now I’m in jail and I didn’t know who to call.” She suddenly stopped talking because she ran out of breath and had to take a moment to compose herself.
“Whoa, relax, girl.” He ran a hand through his hair, knowing they’d be able to locate her by the number she delivered with the call. If she was in jail no one could kill her, right?
“Alex, he said they would send someone else to kill me. I don’t know what to do or who to call.”
“Have you told anyone else? Do the cops know who you are?”
“I tried telling the cop but he just looked at me like I’m crazy. He didn’t believe me, Alex.”
“Did you give them your name?”
“I told them my name’s Nicole Brandenburg.” He’d remember the name, she was sure of it.
“Okay,” he relaxed a bit. “Hey, look, as long as you’re there you’re surrounded by cops, right? And cells don’t have windows. That’s a plus. No one can hurt you in there. I’ll take care of things, promise, okay?”
“He’s just one cop, what can he do if they send another assassin after me?” She bit her bottom lip. “Alex, I shouldn’t have called you because I don’t wanna put you in any danger, but I just didn’t know who else to trust.”
“Don’t worry about it. You’ll just stay the night and let me handle things, alright? Can you do that?”
“Please be careful, Alex. I’ll never be able to forgive myself if anything happens to you.”
“I will be,” he ended the call and sighed. Her tone had been so devastated and scared, and he’d never heard her like that before.
“Did she give the cops her real name?” She knew Bane would’ve removed any identification she was carrying as soon as he’d had the opportunity.
“No, she didn’t. They pulled her over and found out the car was stolen. She ran away after your friend wanted to remove some transmitter from her.”
“Then my suspicions were correct,” she mused. “I need to contact Bane so he can get to her. She’s been stationary long enough that the replacement assassin will be on his way. He’ll already be in Pennsylvania tracking her. The only way to save her now is for Bane to intercept him.”
Alex went on to type the number she had called from into his computer, receiving the location immediately and showing it to her.
Valkyrie punched in Bane’s number and waited while it rang. “Pull up information about the sheriff’s office in that town. Find out how many officers are employed there.” There were probably only two, maybe three at most, but she wanted to be able to pass that information along to Bane.
He nodded and worked quickly. “Three, but one broke his leg and he’s currently at home. Three cells in the building, all located in the basement.” You just have to love small town websites, he thought with a shake of his head.
“Well, that at least provides some cover. No one will be able to get a shot off at her from outside the building.” She glared at the phone for a moment before putting it back up to her ear. “C’mon, Bane, pick up, damn it!”
“You’ve got the worst timing as always, Valkyrie,” the other assassin suddenly muttered from the other end.
“What the hell took you so long?” She didn’t bother waiting for an answer. “We’ve got your girl’s location.”
“I’m listening.”
“Small town in western Pennsylvania called Courtland. She was picked up for driving a stolen vehicle. She gave them a phony name but they’re holding her on charges. Three cops in the town, but only two are currently active. Jail has three cells, all in the basement. Only one way in or out.”
She heard a car door slamming and a deep growling motor coming to life. “On my way.” There was a short silence before he spoke again. “Anything else?”
“Maybe the reason behind the bombing. It looks like her father was investigating The Circle and he was close to linking them to a hit at the Moscow summit back in 2004.”
“You’ve done your homework, haven’t you?”
“I said I would, didn’t I?” she countered.
“You still in DC?”
“Not directly.”
“Good. You need to get further away.”
“Yes. Had to stay close in order to get into Halverson’s house.”
“I’ll contact you when I have her.”
“We’ll be on the move, but we’ll be accessible.”
“Take care.” Bane hung up.
Interesting, Valkyrie thought as she disconnected the call. “Pack everything up, we need to get out of the city.”
“Where to?”
“A safe house in South Carolina. We’ve already stayed here too long.”
“And Maria?”
“Bane will pull her out and protect her. He’ll have his own safe house to get to.” She looked into his mutinous features. “Look, it’d do no good for us to head up there. The assassin they’ve deployed to go after her has a big head start and we’d never beat him there. Bane’s the only one who has a chance to get to her before the assassin does. The best thing we can do is go to ground and find a way to bring The Circle down.”
“Okay,” he nodded, shutting his laptop. “Okay, I’m coming.”
“Do you have any experience with weapons?” she asked as she packed up all of her gear.
“Uh, no.”
“When we reach our destination you’re getting a crash course.”
L-J-L 76: Thanks! We’ll check in with Max and Liz today. They’re not likely to hang back and do nothing. Even though watching Maria was their job, she had become a good friend.

Re: THE ASSASSIN - AU/CC/Adult - Part 11 - 4/5/15
So I was right, Valkyrie is Isabelle... Valkyrie is the right word for her... I showed some parts of Grey anatomy which are on the re-run for the hollydays and in some parts, she really looked like a valkyrie!
But apart of this, I find great that these kids who all, were into the explosion - step by step - will hopefully
recover their memories, as they were youths and rememver what's happened!
Thanks EVE

Re: THE ASSASSIN - AU/CC/Adult - Part 11 - 4/5/15
Great chapter!!!! Please please please please please please please please come back and post more really really really really soon? I can't wait to read what will happen next for Max and Liz. I hope Max and Liz will figure everything out and try to help Maria. I hope Maria will call Max and Liz to let them know she was fine and what is going on. I guess Max and Liz will miss Alex and the lady. Hopefully Max and Liz will find Maria and Alex before another assassin is signed to kill Maria. And they will find out the truth about Maria uncle. Will Max and Liz find out the truth? Will Maria call Max and Liz? Will Max and Liz keep investigating for the truth? Will Max and Liz find Maria and Alex? What will happen when Max and Liz find out the truth? What will happen when Max and Liz find Maria and Alex? Will Max and Liz save Maria and Alex? Who is going to come after Maria and Alex now? Will everyone live or will someone get killed? Will Maria's uncle go to prison? Will Maria and Alex talk to Max and Liz? Will Maria and Alex forgive Max and Liz for not telling the truth? Will Max and Liz solve the mystery? Sorry for all the questions I was just wondering. Please please please please please please please please come back and post more really really really really soon? I can't wait to find out what will happen next for Max, Liz and everyone. And I can't wait to read if Max and Liz will find out what is really going on.

I'm with Liz......who would ever get tired of looking at Max's strong body?
Looks like Maria's family's passing is all part of this mystery....will we find Maria anytime soon?
These characters are beginning to find their own place......I was overwhelmed at first.
Thanks,
Carolyn

Three couples, one goal: to get everybody out alive! Everbody with his/her job to do. The Circle won't know what will hit them, if they all can stay out of harm's way, that is! First one in line is now Bane/Michael to retrieve Maria as safe as possible. If she still trusts him, that is.
