Summary: This story is about a beautiful shy girl who thought that love had passed her by - until one very strange peculiar day something happened that would change everything.
Chapter 1.
Liz circled the day on her calender...September 9th. She let out a deep sigh as she thought of the implications of that very important day.
'Well another birthday for me... fantastic! What's the problem Parker...just because you're turning thirty in five days and you're still single and alone...oh I left out stuck in a boring dead end job..it's no reason to be depressed. Your still healthy and have lots of supportive people in your...blah, blah, blah...screw it. I need a drink."
She sipped her coffee wondering if seventhirty was too early for a little nip.
'I wonder if talking to yourself is a sign of insanity? I should ask Maria she would know' she thought to herself as she began to type one of the many emails she would be sending her friend that day.
They were best friends not to sound seventh grade about it but it made sense to Liz considering that's how long they had been friends for. They were the type of friends that could finish each others sentences and that always understood you know matter how crazy you sounded. The kind of friend that would do anything for you and throughout the years that's pretty much what Maria did for Liz.
They were always together until Liz made a decision to change her life completely and move across the country.
She was given this chance when her beloved grandma Claudia had passed away and left her a very tiny house in a very tiny town in Connecticut.
Not exactly the exciting opportunity that most people would jump at but Liz was painfully shy and never was into the bar scene. From what she knew of from her visits with her grandma Connecticut was very pretty and best of all very very far.
It was the night of the wedding that she decided she had had enough. She was so happy for Maria. Marrying Michael was the happiest day of her life and Liz loved every minute of seeing her best friend's dreams come true. Marie and Michael were successful lawyers and lived in a beautiful house in their hometown of Roswell New Mexico.
Their life was set. Liz's life...well....that was another story.
After high school Liz drifted from one dead end job to another. This really didn't bother her all that much because she was in love and planned on getting married and having the white picket fence and all that went with it.
Unfortunately her boyfriend Kyle Valenti had plans of his own...which included many secret nights with a busty blonde bimbo named Tess.
What made this all worse was that virtually everyone in the town knew of this little affair except for his loyal girlfriend who spent her time gazing at wedding gowns and trying to decide what shaped diamond she wanted.
Her dreams were shattered three years ago the day before Maria's wedding when Michael insisted on Liz knowing. Kyle was a good friend but he loved Liz and couldn't bear to see her betrayed anymore.
Breaking the man code Michael told Maria and well...the rest is history.
It's been three years and Liz although sometimes homesick and all the time Maria sick was ok with life in the small country town.
Her house was modest but it was the surroundings that Liz loved. She lived on a busy route but the back yard was a beautiful retreat.
She had a nice deck that looked out on a peaceful area filled with tall white birch trees. She had woods as far back as she could see and complete privacy except for one house that was situated on the left of hers.
This was never a problem because the people that lived there were an elderly couple that never went out doors and was very hard of hearing.
This all changed one day when after a long day of work Liz heard loud voices coming from outside her house. She had been watching a talk show and became very tired of throwing things at the TV being completely nauseated by a repeat of a Valentines Day special and decided to go and investigate.
She yanked on the cord of her blinds in her bedroom and screamed being completely startled at the man that was standing right outside her window.
He was absolutely beautiful and the sight of him left Liz frozen like a deer in headlights.
She silently wished so bad she had not changed out of her stylish work clothes. She was dressed in her comfy sweatpants and a tee shirt she had gotten on her vacation to Boston.
He looked up at her obviously embarrassed for frightening her. She noticed his lips moving but couldn't hear anything.
'Oh my god...I've gone deaf! This beautiful mysterious man shows up outside my window and god picks this moment to take away my hearing.'
Her thoughts raced through her mind as she gazed up at him. He had very dark black hair that ended about two inches above his broad shoulders and fell a little across the most amazing amber colored eyes she had ever seen. His smile was warm and friendly and surprisingly he seemed completely oblivious to his god-like appearance.
He kept pointing to the window as he smiled at her laughing alittle to himself.
'Oh...oh..god I'm not deaf...the window...you idiot Liz open the window.'
She smiled completely embarrassed as she opened the window making it now possible for her to hear him.
"Hi...I'm so sorry I scared you. I was just looking at your bushes."
Just the sound of his husky voice sent chills up her spine. 'Oh god he sounds as good as he looks'
"My w-what" she said not even realizing she had bushes underneath her window.
"Your bushes..see I just moved in next door and I was admiring your bushes...and I'm just now realizing how rude that was walking right up to your house like that... especially since we don't even know each other."
He looked down at the ground feeling incredibly stupid thinking of the wonderful first impression he was making.
"I'm sorry...my grandparents didn't tell me anything about the people living here please tell your husband I'm sorry for s-scaring you like that."
He stuttered shyly completely taken by the beautiful raven haired girl looking back at him.
"Oh I'm not married...actually I live here alone." Liz smiled brightly at him . 'good job Parker now he thinks you're a complete looser.'
"Oh...well I guess that makes two of us. The winters here were too much for my grandparents so we decided to switch houses...I-I'm going to be living here alone too. I have a condo in Florida which works out much better with the no winters and everything." he helplessly rambled on and on wondering why the hell his grandfather forgot to mention the stunning girl that lived next door.
"I'm Max...Max Evans." he lifted his hand to shake hers only to realize painfully that there was a screen separating them. He started to lower his hand in embarrassement when she quickly lifted the screen feeling bad for him.
"Liz...Parker." she reached out and their hands touched filling them both with a warm sensation that made their hearts beat a little faster. They looked down blushing from the obvious connection that was felt.
"Well I better get back. I only have these movers for another hour...it was really nice meeting you...again sorry for -
"Oh it was nothing really...It was nice to meet you too."
She watched him as he turned to walk away.
At that moment a huge gust of wind blew by making the gold and red colored leaves fall all around him.
He glanced back at her with his hands up in the air smiling as the wind blew his dark thick hair all around.
"Is the weather always like this?" he yelled back to her.
"Well we definitely have our strange days." She smiled at him laughing out loud as he pulled a leaf from his hair.
'and this is definitely one of them' she breathed out as she watched him walk away.
