Summary: Tess is discovered by Sylar.
A/N: Told by Tess' POV…I started this months ago and just finished it. Takes places after Season 2 of Heroes and an alternate Season 3 for Roswell, since I believe Tess never died *g*. Beta'd by eridanie, thank you so much!
He's tall, dark, and he's been staring at you for the last half hour. You're not sure if you should be flattered or if you should blast him across the room. His gaze seems transfixed to the table, you glance down and you groan with dismay.
"Fuck."
The pencil you've been rolling on the table, no longer resembles a pencil. You've changed the molecular structure and now he knows you're different. Real smart Tess, might as well wear a sign that says you're an alien.
You quickly gather your things, pushing a mindwarp toward him as you escape into the blistery cold air of New York. You should've gone South. You shiver, pulling the collar of your coat up more, trying to keep warm. You glance across the street before you raise your hand for a cab.
A cab pulls up in front of you and you flash the driver a bright smile as you climb in, you're about to shut the door when the man from earlier slides in beside you. You gasp in shock as he rattles off an address and the cab takes off.
You open your mouth to protest, but find you can't. You're frozen, no longer in control of your body or your actions. You begin to panic, your heart pounding in your chest as your breathing hitches.
He smirks at you, wrapping his arm around you. You realize that the only reason he has is so that he can pull you out of the cab when it stops.
The cab stops a few blocks later and the man pays him, pulling you out of the cab in the process. He pauses as he watches the cab leave and then he lets you go.
"Who are you?" You gasp as you stumble away from him, wondering if you can make a run for it or not, but something tells you, you wouldn't make it far.
"Sylar," he shrugs as he continues to study you. "You're not what I expected-"
"Sorry, to disappoint," you find yourself replying as you raise your hand and send a power blast at him.
He snorts, the blast dissipating into thin air. "Now," he begins, his hands glowing a radiate orange, "That, was rather disappointing."
You cry out as he sends the blast and you counter it with the shield. The heat of the blast radiates through the barrier and you tremble to keep it up. You drop to your knees exhausted from using your powers. You haven't had to use them to protect you in months, years even.
He stalks forward, studying you once more. "Interesting little trick."
You blink, staring up at him. "Who sent you?"
He laughs, kneeling down beside you, his hand running over your head like a sweet caress- but, something tells you that's not what he intends. "Who are you?"
"You already know!" You snap, pushing his hand away. "I don't want to go back-"
"Go back where?" He questions and you still, staring at him in disbelief.
You suddenly realize he has no idea what you're talking about. "You—aren't you one of Khivar's soldiers?"
He raises his brow and shrugs. "Is he another fucking Petrelli?"
"My god." You exhale, confusion lacing your thoughts- if he's not an alien hybrid like you, who is he?
He snickers as he runs his hand once more through your hair and you suddenly feel a searing pain slice through your scalp. You cry out and you send him flying across the field, using the last burst of your powers.
And before you can think to do anything else, you begin to run. You feel as if your heart will beat out of your chest and your breathing is labored and ragged. And my god, your feet ache, you knew you shouldn't have worn heels today.
You collapse a few blocks away and you rub your palm against your head. You blink as you glance at the blood that coats your fingers. You take a deep breath and you attempt to heal the small gash, but fail to.
You're exhausted, you don't think you could move another step if you wanted to. You slump against the wall, telling yourself that you're only going to close your eyes for a second.

The first thing you realize when you wake is that you're no longer outside. In fact, you're on a rather lumpy bed, but it isn't the worst place you've slept in over the years. You yawn, slowly waking up, not recalling when you got up and moved, you must have been too exhausted to recall what you did.
You startle as you hear his voice- the one you ran from, Sylar. You sit up, blinking into the bright sunlight, unable to see anything but a shadow hovering beside you.
"Careful," a British voice soothes and you turn to see a rather handsome Indian.
"Who-" you begin, your heart skipping a beat as he runs his fingers over your scalp, studying the gash that Sylar gave you.
"You gave us quite a scare," he begins as he glances behind him and you follow his gaze to see Sylar leaning back against a long table.
"You, a scare?" You gasp, your eyes widening in disbelief. "He's the one that scared me—he attacked me!"
"You threw the first blast," he shrugs. "Pathetic as it was."
You huff, "My god, how do you put up with him?"
"I don't," he deadpans and you suddenly wonder how they know each other and why you are here.
"Who are you?" Sylar questions as he crosses over to you, studying you. "Your blood is rather unique."
You worry your lip as you glance between the two of them. "I-"
"Sylar brought you to my lab-"
"Lab?!" You squeak, panic washing over you as you attempt to stand up, your legs trembling underneath you. "No—I don't-"
"Careful," the Indian warns once more, helping you back to the bed as your knees give out on you. "What's your name?"
You sigh, giving up any pretense of leaving. "Tess."
"Tess," he smiles. "I'm Doctor Mohinder Suresh and you've already met Sylar."
"Unfortunately," She grumbles and Mohinder laughs lightly. You can't help but join him, smiling.
Sylar huffs and turns away from the two of you. "I am intrigued with your blood sample, I've not seen anything like it."
"I'm not exactly from around here-" you whisper, wanting to trust Mohinder.
"See!"
"Hush," Mohinder snaps, causing you to giggle once more, feeling slightly more at ease. "You were saying?"
"I'm an alien hybrid," you continue as Mohinder's eyes widen with utter fascination.
"And the source of your powers?" Sylar asks and you can't help but giggle as Mohinder rolls his eyes at him.
"They are human in nature," you shrug. "Our Antarian heritage only enhanced our human DNA, we're more advanced."
"We're?" Mohinder repeats and you pale slightly, not meaning to give away the others. "There are more of you?"
You sigh, nodding you head. "We've parted ways, but yes."
"What can you do?" Sylar questions and Mohinder huffs in annoyance.
"Sylar-" he stresses as he stands and crosses over to him. He pulls him to the side and you can't help but notice how close they stand together.
They've been intimate with each other. You gasp, your cheeks flushing with the realization and suddenly it's so clear to you. The heated glances, the touches—they're lovers. Wow.
Mohinder glances back at you momentarily before he returns back to the heated discussion you're not meant to hear.
"Fine," Sylar grunts, glaring at you once more before he stalks past you and out the door.
You exhale sharply, turning your gaze to Mohinder. "Is everything okay?"
"It remains to be seen," he states, pursing his lips together.
"Oh," you gasp, worrying your lip. "Will he attack me again?"
"No. Once he realized you didn't have what he wanted you were safe," Mohinder adds softly and you can't help but believe him.
You nod, attempting to stand once more. "I should go. I can't stay in one place for too long."
"You're welcome to stay," he offers, but you're reluctant to do so. "I believe the components of your blood may help me with my research…" He bites his lip as he glances at the door. "A cure."
"A cure?" You question with confusion. "For what?"
"Sylar is one of the many that have a genetic marker, it gives him his abilities," Mohinder explains, his voice trailing off as he drops his gaze to his hands. He suddenly seems so unsure of himself.
"You want to take his abilities away," you theorize, noticing the crease in his brow. "You want to stop him."
"Yes."
You frown. "But, you love him."
He tenses, shifting his weight on his feet. "Once."
"He loves you."
Mohinder exhales sharply and you want to ask what has happened, why they're not together. You assume the main reason is that he must have a history of murders—he did after all attempt to kill you.
"I'm not sure he can," he whispers after a slight pause, his gaze off in the distance. "Is it that obvious?"
"Uh, yeah." You snort, shaking your head. "I'd kill to have someone look at me with such passion-" you bite your lip, not wanting to reveal that you have. "There's something more."
He shrugs as he takes a step away from you, "Rest. We'll speak more on the testing tomorrow."
"Okay," you whisper, not really wanting to drop the subject, but it's not your place to interfere.
You settle back into the bed, watching him move around the lab. There's such a sense of sadness with him. Just maybe your blood will help him…maybe it'll be just what is needed to help them mend their relationship. Just maybe.
