Summary: Max and Liz left the prom together to create their own destiny. This is a short story , so I hope I put it in the right place.
Love's Old Geography
The journey of every soul begins with a destination predetermined.
And I shall chart my course by following your heart, riding the waves of blood that pulses through your veins- I shall travel every hill , curve and valley of your body- and be the touch that lingers on your skin.
Your eyes shall be the beacon that calls me home across a sea of stars
using love's old geography as my guide.
The Boy
----------
It was what it was.
A cheap motel beside a roadside diner. No candles-no roses. He had nothing to give her but himself. In the silence of the room they undressed one another. He marvelled at the beauty of her body. The flickering of the red neon light outside the window followed their every movement as they began the exploration of each other. He was young and inexperienced, there were some awkward moments, but he was never unsure of himself.
His ragged breathing and her soft moans were the testament to their love. The whispered I love you's floated through the room and calmed
the wild beating of his heart. When he took her innocence, he didn't heal the pain. She had asked him not to. This was the moment in time
she wanted to remember. When the pleasure and the pain turned into ecstasy. She wanted to hold it in her memory forever, so he had agreed.
When love had drained them, they lay naked on the bed unashamed. He held her in his arms and ran his fingers through the soft strands of her hair. He hated to leave her, but time was short, and the journey they would share was just beginning. He would walk among the stars while she remained earthbound. He cupped her face in his hand and kissed her.
And through that kiss he sent every dream, hope , wish and and the very essence of all the humanity that was Max Evans, and wrapped it around her soul.
"Keep me safe." he whispered.
The Girl
----------
She didn't cry when she heard the door close and she knew that he was gone. There were no regrets. Only amazement that he had so much faith in her love. She rose from the bed and dressed herself. She gathered the hours they had spent together in this room and gently placed them in her heart. She would need them from time to time for strength. She opened the door and went out into the world.
She crossed the years that streched between them with determination, acheiving all the goals she had set for herself. Her small circle of friends were her lifeline. She witnessed their marriages, the births of their children. She was thankful for the steadfast devotion they shared
Her days were filled with ordinary things-work, freeways, shopping, bills.
All the neccesary rituals of everyday life.
But her nights were filled with soft moments, moments she shared with no one.
The crack of the pool cue as it hit the ball.
Fortune cookies full of promises.
A kalidescope of lights that held them together beneath a lamp post.
Strawberries.
Hungry kisses that fed upon her lips, coursing through her body searching for a feast.
A blinking red neon light.
Maria's question snapped her back to reality. " How long are you going to love him?"
"All the days of my life." she replied.
And Liz Parker lived. And breathed. And waited.
The Dream
--------------
She sat on the bench in the park and watched the little boy and girl chase butterflies- their laughter hanging in the air as they delighted in the wonder of fragile winged creatures.
He paced the edge of her dream for a moment before he crossed the distance and sat down by her side. He folded her in his arms and she rested her head on his chest.
"Ours?" he asked, nodding in the direction where the children played.
"They will be." she answered. "Right now they're just a twinkle in your eye. I conjure them up sometimes when the waiting becomes more than I can bear."
He pulled her closer.
"Is it almost over?" she asked, with a small sigh.
"Soon," he said. " But one thing has changed. Do you remember when I said I"d be coming for you?"
She felt her heart skip a beat as he continued. "You'll have to come for me." he said softly.
She shifted slightly in her sleep as his image followed the butterflies. The children faded away and only the darkness remained . she wrapped her arms around the night and waited for the day.
The Man
----------
He watched the three bright moons that hung against the backdrop of a burnt orange sky. His mission was over.He prayed that he had been a good leader, and all the battles he had fought and won would be enough to unite his people. He had returned the Granolith to the world where it belonged, and had set about the business of restoring order out of chaos.
He had learned the history of his people-their beliefs and culture. He learned the strength of his allies and the weaknesses of his enemies.
The years of victories and defeats hung heavy on his heart. His enemies had been defeated, he had fullfilled his duty to his people, and secured the safety of the planet where he had been reborn.
He studied his second who stood beside him and knew that he had made a good choice. He was confident in the knowledge that Antar was in the right hands. His second was a good man- fair and honest- and would be a mighty king. He had abdicated the throne to him without any misgivings.
Yes, Larek was a wise choice.
Larek's voice pulled him from his reverie. "Are you ready, Zan?"
Without a moment's hesitation, he bowed to the new king, stepped into the vortex and rode the lightning home.
The Woman
---------------
"Come for me now."
She felt his voice brush across her mind. The connection they had always shared came to life and filled her body with fire. She rose from the chair, motioning to Michael, and without a word between them, he followed her out the door and into the desert.
She found his body beneath the shadow of the rocks of the pod chamber.
She knelt on the ground beside him and cradled his head in her lap. He was rigid and cold and his eyes were black and unseeing. She rocked him gently, trying to hold back the sobs that were making her small frame shake.
"I've come for you, Max, don't leave me again." she cried in desperation.
And she remembered. "Keep me safe." he had said.
She put her hands on either side of his face, pulled his mouth to her lips, and kissed him.
Michael watched in fascination as she breathed the blood back into his veins-the beat back into his heart. She sent the golden amber through her kiss and it flowed into his eyes. She released the dreams, the hopes , his very essence. He stirred beneath her and with one swift breath she returned his soul.
And Michael finally understood . Max and Liz had dueled with destiny. And won.[/i][/b]
