Summary: Max and Liz are best friends since junior school. Liz loves him since then but Max...Max is a man, he doesn't pay attention to the woman she became, he looks at the others. What happened when a certain blondie came to screw up their life.....
5 years later, Liz comes back to Roswell after attending Harvard, she became the pediatrist she always wanted to be....how does she find her friends again?





Prologue

"You're a jerk! you don't deserve my friendship!.....how could i be with you since so long? You know what.....i don't want to see you anymore! GET OUT OF MY ROOM"
"Liz, listen to me, wait!" he grabbed her arm and pulled her back into his arms. He stared at her trying to understand her anger.
"I don't want you here, Max, go and see you little bimbo! You crave to be with her, so run!" she didn't want him to see her crying, she was furious, since that Tess arrived in Roswell, Max was infatuated with her and he forgot all his old friends, mostly he didn't spend as much time as he used to do with her, and she missed him.
"Liz, you called me and i came, what do you want me to do? i don't understand you anymore. And what Tess has to do in there?" he tried to sooth her but she was struggling in his arms. "Liz, stop you're going to hurt yourself"
"I don't care and you too, don't play that hypocrite with me! who told you to come, by the way? Maria? Alex?, leave me alone, i'll be more calm without your face in front of me" Why didn't he understand that seeing him with that bitch was killing her?
"I'm not hypocrite Liz, i care about you, more than you believe, you're my best friend, the girl who know me the most."
"I don't know you, and i don't want to know you anymore...I'll go to Harvard, as i wanted before accepting to attend the same college than you...How silly i was! Now, get out of my room...I want to be alone!"
"Liz, you called me to come you and see i'm here!" he was a little scared, Liz was so upset that she forgot she called him earlier, he began to wonder what happened to his best friend?
"I forgot why i wanted you here, i don't need you anymore, you can leave and join that little girlfriend of yours! GO...GO!"

Max was shocked, his best friend Liz was throwing him out of her room, but why? He didn't understand.....what has he done? Just because of his new girlfriend Tess? Liz had called him earlier asking him to come here and he let Tess at her home and came, but since he entered in Liz's room, she got angry and she ended throwing him out of her room.

In her room, Liz was crying. She told him to come and talk, she wanted to know if he was really with that bimbo like she heard but, as soon as he came in the room, she felt Tess's perfume, she went crasy. He was with her. That was not a rumor, that's the truth.
She was so hurt that she decided to leave Roswell and to attend Harvard, she was not able to see them together.....Max, the boy she was in love since junior, hoping that one day he will see her otherwise than a friend, even if it's his best friend.

i'd like to say that maybe u'll be angry to see Max infatuated with Tess at the begining, i've wanted to make him fall down very low because of her and after that.....don't worry, i'm a 100% dreamer.

and for those who read my other fics, i've updated Behind the scenes and A time to forgive yesterday and i plan to make it every week.
Chapter 1

When he got down, he found Maria and Alex seated on their booths waiting for him, he knew that they heard Liz screaming on him, he walked towards them with and took his head in his hands.
"I think she went crasy....i don't know why she asked me to come, she didn't say it!" Max was sad to know that his best friend was so madly angry with him, he couldn't understand why Liz began to scream as soon as he was entered in her room.

"Did you change your perfume?" said Maria sniffing all around Max " cause you smell like......TESS! You have Tess's smelling on you and you wonder why Liz went crasy?...." she shook her head to say that that was unbelievable to go and see his best friend since he was with his girlfriend before.

"Liz knows that Tess is my girlfriend, what's the problem?" Max asks completely dumbfounded.

For those who didn't know it, Tess is a perfect bitch and Liz, Maria and a lot of others hate her, but Max didn't know it or didn't want to know it, u agree with me that if your best friends flee when you come with your girlfriend, there is a problem! But Max is a man....a man who think with his.......and Tess was an expert to calm all those aroused men. Everyone but Max knew that she was joyfully cheating on him in his back with all the men who asked her. She's kind of nympho.

"Max, i think that you should let her calm down, i'm sure she's not so angry with you and she'll come back" said Alex who didn't want to see their group ruined with quarrels about Tess.

"ALEX! How could you say that about Liz, you know how Liz felt when he began to date that....that...." Maria began to get angry too, she couldn't admit that Max could be so naive and so infatuated of that bitch.

"That what? Maria, what do you have to say against my girlfriend" said Max, he thought that his friends could explain Liz's behavior and he found himself in another quarrel with Maria.

"You know, Max, you wouldn't understand, you have not understand Liz! But let me give you an advice, the next time you'll go and see Liz, abstain yourself to see your little girlfriend before, we kinda don't like her perfume!" Maria exchanged a look with Alex, it seems that Max won't admit their point of view.

Max looked at Maria the same way he did at Liz, his friends became crasy about his relationship with that adorable Tess. He didn't explain to himself why Liz and Maria didn't like her, maybe Liz was jealous cause he wasn't with her the same than before, he hadn't as much time to spend with her as he had before Tess. In his eyes, that was the only reason.

"I think that Liz is jealous of Tess" he said but regretted to have done it when he saw the outregeous looks of Alex and Maria. "what? i might be right!" he added.

"i don't know for Alex, but i prefer you to stay away from us for a while, until you'll recover your mind. I'm sure you can't be serious talking like this, or i don't understand you anymore" Maria was hurt to see her best friend completely under Tess's spell. "I agree with Maria, here, Max....i'm sorry but i can't let you insult one of our best friend for your little bitch!" Alex was so angry that he let his heart speaking, Maria startled when she heard Alex treating Tess in front of Max.

"Ok, i see where are my friends now! and i can't consider you as my friends, you're insulting my girlfriend Alex, I demand that we'll stop there, i think that the next word will be fatal for our friendship. I prefer to stay away from you, as you suggested Maria..Bye"

Max left with the yearning to cry, his best friends...the people he trusted and loved the most are betraying him...they were jealous that he dated a gorgeous girl like Tess, he knew that all the boys of the high school wanted to ask her out but she chose him...him among all the others.
Maria and Alex looked at their friend as he left the diner, then they turned round and stared at each other, dumbfounded...
"Would you believe that he said that one day, that he rejected us for that bitch? Geez, we should tell him who is her gorgeous girlfriend, he should know that people was laughing at him in his back, because of that whore" Maria was suffocating with anger and she didn't see Liz coming down.
"No one could help him as long as he's under her spell, he's in love with her" she said sadly.
"He's not, Chica! He's not, and don't worry, soon he'll come back to you" said Maria trying to comfort her best friend.
"No Maria, he can stay with her as long as he wants, i don't want to have anything to do with him anymore!" Liz has been shocked when she heard Max saying that she was jealous of Tess. She decided to leave the town, to leave the group and to attend to Harvard like she always wanted. The most hard to do will be to tell it to Maria and Alex...

She sat beside Alex who took her in his embrace trying to comfort her. He didn't say a word since she entered the restaurant but he knew that she was hurt because of Max, everyone in the group was aware of Liz's feelings about Max. Alex who was the more discreet of the group suspected Max to feel the same way but he didn't know it, yet.........

Chapter 2

Max went home and slammed his bedroom's door in front of Isabel who came to talk with him. Without asking the permission, she entered in the room and stayed there her fists on the waist looking at him and trying to know what's going on.
"WHAT? Why are looking at me this way, you want my picture?" said Max harshly "and who gave you the right to come in without asking for it?"

"I didn't know that your sister needed your permission to talk to you" she replied sarcastic "what's going on, Tess didn't give you your share of pleasure today of what?" she was laughing at him, not because his sex life was interesting her, but she knew that he didnt bother to hear his sister talking about that sex life.
"I've already told you that it's none of your business, right? so take your ass out of my room!"
"WHAOU! Is that Tess who learned you to talk like this? You've changed Max, you were better when you were with Liz" she said trying to get him on nerves.

"I've never been WITH Liz, Liz is....no was my best friend" he said sadly, remembering the quarrel with his best friend.
"WAS? Did you have a dispute with Liz? .......OH! she knows about Tess and you? She's mad? I'm sure she is....She can't bother her and it's mutual, did you know that? did you know that your girlfriend and your best friend were hating each other?" she questionned. Isabel had no problem with Max dating Tess, she couldn't admit that she was cheating on him with an angel look, and Max, that dumb had no idea of what she was doing in his back.

"So what? I have no right to date who i want or the little miss Liz is managing my life?" he said with anger in the voice, he couldn't admit that his best friend had thrown him out of her room earlier.
"You don't know her"she said
"who? Liz? Of course, i know her...and very well! but what i was ignoring is that my best friend could be jealous!" he said sarcasticly.
"Jealous? of whom, Tess?" she was laughing
"You have no right to laugh at her, Tess is gorgeous, she had the good things at the good places, unlike Liz." he knew that he was nasty but he couldn't help to be, he felt frustrated because of this quarrel he had with her. She was his best friend since junior and for the first time, he didn't understand her.

"She is leaving i bet?" she asked sadly
"Leaving? NOO! Why did she have to leave?" he was scared to lose completely his best friend, and he forgot that she said to him that she was attending to Harvard like she always wanted.
"Max, don't make fun of me, you know that Liz would have accepted to attend Harvard if it wasn't for us! Now that you screwed up the group friendship, i'm sure she's going there" She looked at her brother and saw him turning pale. "what? did she tell you that she was leaving for Harvard?" she asked anxious.

Max nodded to say yes. In his anger, he forgot that detail...Geez, that was not a detail, all the plans they've done both during high school were ruined and that was hard to accept it. He felt even more betrayed by Liz, she was given him up, there in Roswell since she was living far from here....far from him.

"Do you realise that you're losing a real friend for a girlfriend you don't even know if you'll be with her after college graduation, did you think about that?" she repeated trying to make him realise the big mistake he was doing.
"I'm just her friend, i'm nothing more than her friend, and i suppose she didn't intend to spend her life with her friends....so, if she chose to stay away from us...that's her life, unlike her, i'm not managing her life." Max was devasted to realise that he wouldn't see his best friend for several years but he didn't want to admit it in front of Isabel, sure he was, that she would run to tell it to Liz.

"Is, could you leave me alone now, i'm tired with all that mess, i need to rest a little before going to work" he lay down on his bed and closed his eyes, his hand hiding them.
"Ok, do you think that i should call Liz, to see what i could do for you both?" she asked
"Do what you want, i don't need you to try to fix things between us, she threw me out of her room, i've my dignity and i don't want to talk to her before a while. If it's for me, i don't need your help, sorry." he said weary.
"Ok, i let you rest....Max"
"Hummm?"
"You know that i'm here for you if you need to talk about it" she said
"I know Is, thank you..."
She looked at him, sorry to see him so blindly unaware of Liz's feelings for him. They all knew that she was in love with him since long, he was the only one who ignored that, busy he was to look for the good girlfriend, and what did he choose, the worst. The only girl who sleeps with everyone all around, that's who he chose as girlfriend, and then, he found her gorgeous and he thought that Liz was jealous of her. Geez, Tess did all her best to get them apart, and she succeeded. She screwed up the group friendship.

Chapter 3

2 months later

"Chica, i can't believe that you're leaving tomorrow, time went by so fast, we didn't have time to do a lot you and me, and i'm going to miss so much" Maria said with tears in the voice
"Maria....Maria....come here" they sit on Liz's bed and Liz put her arm around her shoulder "Maria, i'm leaving but you will come to see me, and we'll go shopping, museums...we'll have a lot of fun, you'll see."
"That won't be the same, i get used to see you every day...we are together since so long, i can't imagine to go to college without you" Maria couldn't restrain her tears anymore.

Liz held her tight and whispered soft words to calm her even if in the bottom of her heart she was angry....furious...with Max. It was his fault if she had to leave the group and go to Harvard. She spent 2 months trying to avoid him with his little whore, but now, she's exhausted by that little game and she was eager to leave Roswell. She looked at her best friend.

"Maria, i'm sorry...you know that i couldn't go on, it's was very hard for me to see what she did to us....She took him away from us, and he is so weak with her that he let her do it."
"He's not happy with her, Chica....he couldn't be!" Maria wiped her tears and now anger was taking the best of her. "I'm sure that he regrets what he did, he loves you!"
"Not the way i loved him...." "LOVED? You don't love him anymore?" Maria was shocked to hear that, that meant that Tess had won and she couldn't let that happen.

"Maria, i don't know what i'm feeling now, he hurt me and i can't forget that. He insulted me when he said that i was jealous of his girlfriend...HA! If he only knows what does she do in his behind" she said bitterly.
"Give him some more time and you'll see. When you won't be around she won't have to hide her true character, she clings to him cause she's scared of you, and she's living with her parents. College will mean freedom for her and then we'll see the true Tess"
"I don't care anymore Maria, if she hurt him. He made his choice and he threw out our friendship for her, he won't blame anyone but him if things get worse later" Liz knew that Tess won't hide her true nature any longer, but she didn't want to be here to see her best friend suffering because of her.

While they were talking, they heard a knock at the door. Maria stood to open the door to find Alex, Isabel, Serena, Michael and Kyle entering.
"Hey, did you come to make a party or what?" She said pretty angry to see that she won't spend Liz's last night alone with her.
"Do you think you're the only one sad that our best friend is leaving tomorrow, Blondie?"

Michael didn't get used to show his feelings but he was so upset to see his best friend Max rejecting girl like Liz. He learnt to know her day after day, year after year, and even if he didn't talk a lot, he saw how faithful and sincere she was. He considered her like a little sister after he found out that he couldn't have any chance beside Max. Max! that jerk who screwed up the frienship of 8 very closed friends for Tess, a bitch!
Liz went to huge everyone, she was glad to see all her friends here for her but so sad to know that tomorrow she'll leave them.

"Hey, speaking of party, why don't we make a party? all of us?" she asked
"A party? Here?" Isabel said and began to reflect about the way to organise it.
"No, not in my room! I could ask my father if we could use the Crashdown! Wait, i'm going right now" and leaving her friends stunned, she ran downstairs to talk to her father.

While she was out, Isabel took advantage to talk to the others.
"We could ask Max to come here tonight and that'll be a surprise for her" she was upset to see that her brother wouldn't be there since they were all like a family during so long.
"Are you crasy? she won't agree and i shouldn't tell him if i was you! Liz would be furious if Max was coming" Michael said, dumbfounded that Isabel could have that idea.
"Isabel, Liz is not attending NMU because of him and his girlfriend, how could think that it would be a good surprise if he came!" Alex said, like the others, he couldn't admit that Liz should leave them tomorrow, his best friend since kindgarten was going far from him the day after and he couldn't have done anything to hold her back.

Liz came back from the restaurant with a bright smile on her face
"He agreed...he said that as it's my last time in Roswell, it would be a good idea to spend it with my friends.....So, we're partying tonight." she said happy, but she froze when she saw Isabel frowned "what? what's going on here? Isabel you won't seem to agree, something's wrong?" she said, begining to get on her nerves
"Nothing's wrong Liz, in any way, they won't agree and you'll be mad, so forget it" Isabel couldn't help but feel for her brother even if she knew that he was acting like a jerk.
"They won't agree for what? and why i would be mad? i need you to explain, i've to know!" Liz couldn't bother that things could be said in her behind even if it's something bad for her.

Chapter 4

All the stares were on Isabel, they couldn't believe that she would ask such a thing from Liz. The silence in the room make Isabel feel uncomfortable. She cleared her throat..
"You're sure you won't be mad?" she asked a little scared
"Go ahead Isabel, and stop whining like this, that couldn't be so bad, no?" Liz was eager to what she had to ask that they others would agree to do.
"Humm...ok... would you allow me to ask to Max for coming tonight?" she said embarrassed.

Liz turned pale and the others held their breathes. They were angry with Isabel to dare asking such a question to Liz after what Max did to her, but they were anxious to know what their best friend will reply.

"What did you say?" she asked unable to believe that Isabel could ask that.
"Liz, give him a chance to explain and to apologize, he's your best friend...i know what he did is wrong, but don't let your anger take the best of you. I'm sure you that if you talk....you should talk to him, if not you let her win" she said knowing that Liz could be furious, but she was sad to see her brother she loved and his best friend apart.
"Do you know what you're asking Isabel? Do you know what your brother said about me?" she said harshly.

Even if she realised a dream, going to Harvard, Liz was upset to have to leave her friends because of Max and she couldn't agree to see him there since he said that she was jealous of Tess. It would be accepting that for the truth and it's not, even if she loved him more than a friend, she couldn't be jealous of that whore, at the opposite, she was feeling pain for him cause she knew that Tess was betraying him in his back and nobody could say it.
She stared at Isabel, poor Isabel, trying to help her brother. She saw that she was uncomfortable but she respected her for helping her brother.

"Liz, you're leaving tomorrow....you're going to Harvard! your dream comes true! i don't say that you have to forgive what Max said, but if you don't talk to him, you make Tess win and i can't agree with that!" she said trying to tease Liz to make her change her mind, but she was really thinking that Tess will be the winner in that case.

"Did Max know that you're asking me to let him come to my party Isabel?" she asked suspicious cause maybe all that conversation was a scheme from Max
"No, he doesn't know what i'm doing. I think that he would be angry with me if he found out" she answered shyly
"I bet....So why do you want me to invite your brother dispite what he said to me?she asked to her friend
"I can't bother to see 2 people who were best friends apart because of that girl..i want to put her at her place and if he came here, that would be a slap on her face" Isabel answered hoping to convince her friend.
"If you were at my place, you'd forgive him? Would you forget that your best friend said something so enormous knowing the reputation of his girlfriend? Tell me Isabel, if i agreed to let him come tonight, do you think he would bring Tess with him?" she asked sacarsticly. She knew that Isabel wouldn't agree to see Tess here tonight.
"Liz, i can't decide at your place, i gave you my point of view dispite my fear to make you angry with me...i've no answer but i'm sure he won't bring her here." she said tired to argue
"You said it, it's my party and I'm the one who decides who comes who doesn't come....and i don't know about Max. Let me settle everything and i'll see if i'll be in the mood to see him again. I'll call you." she said sternly. She turned to Maria and the others "if you could help me to settle everything...i'll be grateful...Isabel, you can help if you want" she said.

"What do you us to do, Liz?" Maria asked relieved that her best didn't make a quarrel with Isabel
"I could buy some alcohol" Michael said, "i'm sure that alcohol will lightnen your mood Liz" he added
"No...any alcohol in my house Michael, i'm sorry...if you want get drunk tonight that won't be the right place!" she said firmly. "But if you could call some of our friends to tell them about the party" she asked
"I thought that you wanted just us, i mean all of us!" Maria said surprised, Liz was not a party-girl usually and she was surprised to see her ask for more people.
"I need to enjoy that party, i'm leaving my best friends tomorrow and i don't want us to be sad, that's why we need to have a lot of people here, but the persons i like not the others" Liz said.
"You mean not Tess...Pam....Vicky....Tommy......people like that?" Serena asked but regretted to mention Tess when she saw her friend turned pale.

Liz didn't answer, when Serena mentionned Tess, she couldn't help but felt hurt. That whore has made her group apart and she was cheating on her best friend with all the man who asked her to sleep! and Max pretended that she was jealous of that girl? If she was jealous of something that would the love he felt for that girl.....Damn, yes! she was jealous of that, Max in love with that bitch.....she would give a lot to see him one day open his eyes on his so gorgeous girlfriend, she didn't want him to be hurt but he deserved to see it with his eyes. She looked at her friends, they were waiting for her reaction hearing Serena's mistake. She smiled.

"It's ok, Serena, don't be scared to name her in front of me, i can handle it. But, you're right i don't want that kind of people in my house, i want to see people really enjoying a party not going here and there making out or more. I want to have fun...And........Isabel, if Max agrees to come.......it's ok for me. He can come tonight." she said looking at her friends.
All of them were staring at Liz like if she was an alien! she agreed to see Max here tonight!

Chapter 5

"LIZ!!" Maria yelled, she thought that her friend get crasy "don't you think it's a bad idea? after what he said to you, you agree to see him again?" she asked shocked
"Yes Maria, i'm leaving tomorrow and i won't see him anymore....no, it's a good idea! think about and you'll agree with me too....Ok, now we don't have a lot of time to settle the party, you have many calls to fix up, so hurry..Maria!" she said with a smile.
The others came beside her to see what did she plan for them to do and everybody left with a mission. Before she went out, Liz held back Maria "I want you to call Sean, Maria...I want him at my party, could you do this for me?" she asked shily. She knew that Maria had never seen with a good eye an eventual relationship with her cousin Sean, but tonight Liz planed to have fun and Sean was an expert there.

Maria looked at her best friend "Sean?" why did Liz want that Sean came here tonig....?? "OH the devil you are! you planed a revenge with Sean's help? You think that Max will be jealous of Sean!" she asked
"Did you forget when Sean came at my last birthday, the mess Max did because i danced a lot with your cousin? You couldn't have forgotten that?" Liz said laughing. She's happy to hold her revenge, Max will see if she was always jealous of Tess, after all, she didn't see them since 2 months and she's leaving the day after.
"You're right and you know Sean didn't appreciate Max's attitude that day....and i know that he likes you. I'm sure he would be pleased to come tonight" she added happy to see that Liz was not too sad to leave them. "Do you need my help for your dress or to fix your hair?" she asked knowing that Liz was completely able to take care of herself.
"Thank you, Ria, i'd like to do it by myself, you won't be with me when i'll be at Harvard, i've to get used to do things by myself. And that'll be the way to surprise you too" she said trying to sooth her best friend's worries.

After that, Maria left to call the people she had to call, especially her cousin Sean. Liz stayed alone on her bed, looking around her room...she lived here since she was a little girl and she was sad to leave her refuge, that place hold so many souvenirs...with Maria, with Max....Max....she agreed to see him cause she knew that that will be the last time...he has been her best friend for so long that she couldn't leave Roswell without telling him good bye, even if tonight she was planing her revenge...a tear leaked the corner of her eye, thinking about a revenge instead of being happy to share her colleges years with her best friend and their friends.
A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts, she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, straightened her shirt and went to open the door "Lizzie honey, are you making your party tonight?" Mr Parker asked
"Yes Dad, everybody went to call our friends and i'll settle everything here on the balcony" she answered.
"You don't want to use the Crashdown for that party, you'll have much more place!" he asked surprised
"I don't know how many people will come tonight, do you mind if i tell you later?" she replied
"It's ok honey, there isn't a lot of clients tonight, if you need the Crashdown, tell me and i'll settle the party downstairs....so, everything's ok for you? i see that my princess is sad to leave her friends....you know as proud as i'm to see you going to Harvard, you know that you can change your mind if you're sad to go there alone"
"I know, Dad, but that was my dream to attend that university, i won't give up the day before. And you know, it's not only for my friends, i'm sad to leave my room, my house and mostly my parents. I'm going to miss you and Mom, you know. I was reflecting about that."

Once again, tears were leaking in the corner of her eyes, Mr Parker didn't know what to do but held her tight against him and kissed her on the cheeks "Everything will be ok, Liz, and you know when you'll come back, your room will always be there for you and Mom and me too." he said with tears filling his eyes.
They kissed and he left her room.

"Ok, i don't have too much time and a lot of things to do" Liz thought for herself grabbing her purse and leaving her room. "Dad, i'm going to the mall, i have some stuff to buy, i won't be late" she told her father passing by the backroom. She intended to go to the mall to buy a dress for tonight, she didn't want to ask to Maria for coming with her, she needed to do shopping alone cause tomorrow Maria won't be with her to do it.
When she arrived to the mall, she didn't know what kind of clothes she was going to buy so she wandered along the stores, looking here and there for THE DRESS! She entered in an exotic store to see what they have, searching among a lot of japanese dresses, she's been attracted by one of them, she was black and short with long and tight sleeves, but she was bare back. Liz decided to try it, she was not the kind of dress she was used to wear but tonight was a special night and if the dress fit her, she'll let herself tempted and will buy it.

She entered in the fitting room to try it, the size was good and she pushed the curtain to see herself in the mirror. When she went out she heard people whispering "ooohhh" and the saleswoman came beside her "she's for you, miss. I've never seen it on somebody but let me tell you that she was waiting for you, that's incredible!" she said with envy and all the clients in the store nodded yes. Liz blushed a little, she has never been like this the person everybody was admiring and she didn't know how to react. She looked again at herself in the mirror and froze.....outside of the store she saw.....Max...staring at her, amazed. She run in the fitting room saying to the saleswoman that she'll take the dress.
While she was undressing, she was so stressed that her ears were humming, she couldn't imagine that today she would meet Max between all the people. She took all her time to change hoping that he would be gone when she went out.

Max was very surprised to find Liz, alone, in that store and completely amazed in front of her stunning beauty. He was her best friend and not used to pay attention to her outfit, she was like Michael or Alex for him since junior school and here he found out that she was more than beautiful. Without knowing he entered in the store, when the saleswoman asked him for help, he told her that he was with the young girl in the fitting room and she left him alone.
He was before the curtain, waiting for Liz to go out from here. He didn't know what he was going to do but he was drawn by her, he had to be here with her and he didn't understand why.
Liz pushed the curtain and startled in front of Max "what are you doing here, Max?" she asked trembling, he looked at her and Liz locked her eyes with his, she couldn't help but was completely unable to look away.
"I....I was wandering in the mall and i saw you in that store.....i couldn't help but entered, i had to tell you that you should buy that dress, you're amazing into it....i don't know who is the man, but let me tell you that he'll fall for you as soon as he will see you. That's exactly what every men will feel seeing you" he said affected by her
"That was not the purpose, Max. I'll buy that dress for me, for the pleasure to wear a so marvelous dress, that's all, i didn't plan to make the men fall for me." she said still trembling but grumbling about her insecurity in front of him.

Actually, Liz didn't know that Max received a shock seeing her in that dress, he understood that her best friend was a woman, an amazing woman and he was completely disturbed. That's why, without knowing, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately.

Chapter 6

When he released her, they stayed stunned, unable to talk. Max was shocked that his best friend inspired him that passion and Liz was shocked by Max manners, she'd like to slap him but get shy there in a store.
She was furious that he dared to kiss her that way after what he said, even if in the bottom of her heart she was happy that he found out that she was a girl.

"Max, i don't know what you're doing here but you have no right to kiss me like this." she said roughly "and if you could get out from here, i've to pay my dress" she added.
"Liz, don't be mad, i was wrong...i mean what i said the last time...i was wrong" he began to plea
"This is neither the place nor the moment, Max....we're in a store, if you have something to tell me, wait until i'm ready to hear you" she whispered pushing him to make him get out of the store.

She returned to the saleswoman "I take the dress, can i pay it with 2 checks please" Liz asked shyly.
Before the woman could reply, Max came back beside Liz with his credit card "Liz, let me offer it to you, please, it will be a pleasure for me..." he asked with a bright smile, but he froze when he saw the glare Liz sent to him.
"Thank you Max but i'd like to pay it with my money, that's the first time my parents won't help me" she said, trying to hide her anger in front of the saleswoman.
"You're a lucky young woman, you know! your boyfriend wanted to pay that dress for you, i don't see a lot of young men ready to spend such money for their girlfriend" she said staring at Max.

Liz was suffocating with anger, he dared to come here and play the good "boyfriend" in front of the saleswoman since she was nothing for him, not even his best friend anymore. She put her hand on his forearm to stop him.

"Max, please...let me do it by myself..." she said with a fake smile.
He agreed, seeing that if he was insisting she could make a scene in the store. He wanted to take advantage of the purchase to make her forgive his last words but he failed. He waited for her to pay before going out with the best wishes of the salesgirl.
Once out, Liz burst out shouting "How dare you? How dare you to humiliate me like this, it's not enough what you said last time, you had to come here and play the fair boyfriend, i didn't need you, you can go to hell, i don't care anymore!" she cried out, holding the tears which threatened to flow, but not in front of him.

"Liz, please...i didn't want to play the boyfriend, the salesgirl mistook, that's not my fault. Liz, i've just wanted to make a move to you. I'd like you to forgive me, Liz, i want you to be my best friend again, i miss you so much!" he said with the look of a poor lonely dog.

But Liz didn't want to listen to him, he wanted her as his best friend but he kissed her differently a while earlier. She remembered that she'd like to slap him in the store and she told him "You know that you were lucky in the store, i wanted to slap you when you kissed me! How dare you to kiss me? Did you fall on your head or what? I'm not your little girlfriend Max, i don't let men to kiss me like this, you know!" she said so furious that she couldn't control her words.
"I don't know why i kissed you, i've no explaination for that, i had that fierce yearning to do it and i couldn't have restrained myself, sorry. But look, i'm not sorry to have kissed you...in that dress, you weren't Liz my best friend anymore, you were different...amazingly beautiful.." he said softly, he told her the truth he hadn't been able to stop himself when he saw her in that dress, he forgot everything but her..and he gave in the temptation to taste her lips.

Liz kept silent while he was talking about their kiss, she was angry that he was aware that she was a girl, not only the best friend whom he could talk, play and boo. Maybe he'll do the difference between her and his whore of girlfriend one day, but for the moment, it's too late. She was leaving the next morning.....Speaking about her departure....the party! her party....she completely forgot it and she was there talking with that asshole since she had all her friends in her house in a few hours!

"Liz, if you didn't forgive me, why did you invite me to your party?" he asked
"WHAT?? i didn't invite you...i mean Isabel asked me if i agreed to see you tonight and after reflecting, i said yes...but you can't say that it's an invitation. Nevertheless, i would like to see you tonight at my party, did you plan to come with your little wh...girlfriend?" she asked, shutting her mouth before she could insult Tess.
"Depends...do you really want me tonight at your party or Isabel forced you to invite me?" he asked with a mischievious look in his eyes.
"Please stop teasing me, i agreed for you to come, if you want it, you're welcomed, if not, it doesn't matter to me...but if you come, i demand to know with who!" she replied staring in his eyes. She wanted to know if he would have the nerve to bring his whore with him.
"I won't make you feel uncomfortable the night before your departure Liz, as you've been enough fair to invite me, i'll come alone tonight, and i hope you allow me to dance with you, maybe...." he said.

He really meant what he said, Liz was leaving, he was sad cause he knew that it was his fault, he pushed her too far and he regretted it, all he wanted for the moment was her forgiveness, but that was far from easy to get it.

"Max, you're still with Tess, right?" she asked
"Yes.....why that question?"
"Just to know....if you're still with her, you don't need to dance with me.....does that change your mind for tonight?"
"I'll come with pleasure Liz even if you don't allow me to dance with you." he replied sadly, he was hoping that the things would turn out all right but Liz seemed determined to keep their relationship in the same state: that means angry with him despite her departure.

Chapter 7

The party

Maria wanted to help Liz for the party as always but she refused, saying that she had to get used to do a lot of things with her help and she told her that she'd to surprise her, this time.
So she dressed and put a ounce of makeup, at the opposite of Maria or Isabelle, not talking about Tess, she didn't like to put a lot, just her eyes and pink pale lipgloss, her skin was tanned by the sun, she didn't need anything on her cheeks. She looked at her in the mirror, that dress made her look like an exotic girl and she decided to wear her hair down but on one shoulder to cut that exotic impression.

She was looking a last time when she heard a knock at the door "Lizzie, all your friends are downstairs honey, waiting for you!" her mother said. "may i come in, i'd like to see the princess of the night." she added
Liz gave a last glance at herself "Yes mom, of course you can....." she was cut by her mother entering in her room "OHHHHHH....Lizzie honey, you're amazing! i don't know where did you find this dress but she is meant for you" she said, her eyes sparkling, "you really look like a princess, an exotic princess....i'm sure Max..." but Liz cut her before she said something else "Mom, Max is Tess's boyfriend, the fact that he's coming tonight won't change that, and i haven't bought that dress for him, i did it for myself" she said sternly.

She felt bad to have answered to her mother that way, but she wanted to make her mother understand that Max was out of the picture for good..Thinking that, she reminded the kiss they shared in the store, they shared it, she remembered that she kissed him back and felt her cheeks reddened.
Mrs Parker looked at her daughter, she saw that she was sad and Max going out with that Tess was certainly the reason, but Liz was leaving the day after, and she'll forget everything, she hoped so. She pulled Liz in her arms and kissed her on the cheek "Honey, i didn't want to bother you, look, it's your party tonight and i want you to enjoy it....tomorrow, you're leaving for Harvard and you'll forget those problems, you'll have to begin a new life and you'll see everything will be all right."
"Thanks mom, i think that i've to go downstairs now" she said kissing her mother...

She left her room and began to go down step by step, a little anxious about her friends reaction. When she arrived on the top of the stairs, she stopped looking around who was there, she had let Maria and Isabel inviting people and she saw that all her friends were there...she noticed that Sean was there........and Max too. That party will be very interesting, she made a move to continue to go down when Maria turned towards her "WHAOU!!!!!Liz, you're amazing" she cried out, Liz startled and lost her balance. Luckyly, Max who was near the stairs, climbed them and held her in his arms before she fell.
Liz looked up and saw him staring at her, even if he saw her in that dress before, she was incredibily amazing tonight and he couldn't help to have his eyes locked with hers. Liz smiled shyly "Thank you Max, always the white knight to help a girl in distress, i see" she said when she straightened herself.
"I'm always there for you Liz, you know that." he said unable to take his eyes off her.

Maria who whitnessed the scene, like the others, came beside her best friend "Liz, i'm sorry i didn't want to frighten you, but you're so beautiful.....i'm sure everybody will agree with me, you're different tonight." she said with a wink, she had seen the exchange between her best friend and Max and was pleased to see him completely under her spell
"It's nothing Maria, as you see, the white knight saved my pride...thank you Max, i think i can walk by myself now" she said with a smirk. Max didn't answer but was still staring at her "Max!! earth to Max? you're with us?" she asked putting her hand on his forearm and shaking it a little. "Huh??oh sorry, i was lost in my thought, what did you say?" he replied flushing.

Actually, Max was completely lost, he was used to see Liz as his best friend, yes, but rather like Michael than like the fabulous young woman he had in his arms. He realised that she was still in his arms and felt his heart pounding in his chest. "That's crasy, Liz, my best friend? she's my best friend, almost like my sister....but what i couldn't have the thoughts i have holding her in my arms, if she was my sister, that would be incestuous."he thought for himself.
Before he said a word, Liz left his arms and he felt the loss of her warm body. She continued to go down joining all the friends who came to wish her good luck for the future.
Everybody told her how beautiful she was, how magnificent the dress was and she looked like a chinese princess in it. Liz was happy to see them and sad to know that tomorrow she would be far from here. But she didn't want to let the melancholy invade her and she held back the tears which threatened to leak.
Maria went beside her and told her in the ear "You got him, he's completely dumbfounded, you've won chica" she added with a smile. "Maybe Ria, maybe but it's too late and i pay the big price, tomorrow i won't be there anymore, and that's why i'm a little sad tonight" she answered.

And before the sadness took the best of her, Sean was beside her"Come here beauty, i was waiting for you" he said huskily and taking her by the hand and leading her in the middle of the crashdown to dance. Alex and the Whits are playing tonight for her and they began by a slow.
She felt like it was her wedding, cause she was there with Sean dancing and all her friends were around looking at them "Hey, come on, we're not the only ones allowed to dance, come on everybody, it's a party!" she said laughing. She felt a gaze on her and looking for it, she found Max at the same place, on the stairs, staring at her..with a sad look on his face....Liz stared back one second, then closed her eyes and put her head on Sean's shoulder.
The night was begining......

Chapter 8

"Are you ok, Liz?" Sean asked in her ears, he felt that she was sad but didn't want to bother her, happy to have her in his arms. "Yes, Sean, don't worry...it's weird cause i'm leaving all of you tomorrow" she said trying to hold her tears. Tomorrow, she'll have left her parents, her house, her friends....her cosy life to enter in a new one in one of the most famous university of the world, she felt proud but impressed too, but nevertheless sad to leave.
"Liz?"
"Humm..."
"Why did you change your mind? I mean, you've always dreamed to go to Harvard, but i heard that you had chosen to go to Las Cruzes with all of us.....What made you change your destination? If it's not too indiscreet to ask?" Sean said, a little shy. He liked Liz, even more than like, but she always had considered him like a brother, a cousin, after all he was Maria's cousin and was around since years. If only....but he didn't want to dream again..
"I didn't change my mind Sean, i've always wanted to go to Harvard and i'm following my dream." she replied. She liked Sean, but she didn't want him to find out the real reason why she's leaving, Max could have some problems with him.. Thinking of Max....where he is?

She looked around, seeking him, and she found him at the same place on the stairs staring at her couple with Sean. From here, he seemed to be upset to see her in Sean's arms but it couldn't be...he was her best friend, he didn't have any feeling for her....he liked her like a sister, that's all. Even if they kissed earlier, Liz knew that Tess was still his girlfriend and nothing could change that.
She was so lost in her thoughts, that she startled when the music stopped. "You're sure you're ok, Liz" Sean asked once again. "Yeah, i was rocked by the music" she said with a smile and without thinking she kissed him on the corner of the mouth.

On the stairs, Max was looking at Liz and Sean sadly, without his stupidity, he would be at his place, dancing with her instead of just be there to see her dancing with everyone but him. But when he saw her kissing Sean, he felt his heart stopping to beat : Liz, his Liz with Sean? It couldn't be...Without thinking, he walked towards them "Do you allow me?" he asked staring at Liz.
Liz startled again but didn't want to leave Sean's arms. Sean looked at her surprised then looked at Max waiting to take his place "I don't think she's agreeing, sorry Max"
"Liz, please....i'd like to dance with you. You're leaving tomorrow for..." he began to plead and she cut him, not wanting to make a scene "OK...OK...Max, stop whining, i'm going to dance with you since you are forcing me to do it" she said sarcasticly.
She really didn't want to dance with him, mostly because she didn't know how to react after what happened in the store earlier, but she also remembered what he had said about her and she bore him a grudge for those words. Sean let her go and Max pulled her into his arms holding her tight.
"Max, you don't have to hold me like this, we are supposed to dance, nothing else!" she said angry, she didn't understand his behavior lately, first he kissed her and now he's holding her like if he didn't want to let her go, she decided to take advantage of the situation and flirt with him. He had to know that he couldn't laugh at her and come back as if she was the most important person in his life, forgetting that he had a girlfriend: Tess.

Sean heard what she said and wanted to come back to her to get rid of him but the wink she sent kept him interfering between her and Max, at the opposite, he looked at them wanting to see what Liz had in her store for Max.

"Max, you wanted to dance with me dispite my refusal and i'm in your arms now, i think that you can let me breathe, don't you?" she said with a smile. She saw that he was disturbed, she knew that he has not forgotten the store episode nor her and she was leaving the day after, why didn't she make him regret her departure?

They were dancing on the music and when Liz put her head on his chest, she felt his heart racing and she smiled aware to have an effect on him, but she had not finished. She felt his hand stroking her bare back and couldn't help but shivered, that was not planed. She was managing the game but here she had been surprised by her reaction.
Sensing her shivering, Max pulled her away to stare into her eyes but she didn't let him look and closed her eyes faking a moan, she achieved to turn him on when she nibbled at his ear, she felt him quivering.
"Liz, let's go outside please" he said with a husky voice
She stared at him and saw his eyes clouded with desire, she knew that she was holding her revenge. Without a word, she took his hand and led him out of the Crashdown. When they were out, Liz turned towards him leaning against the wall "We're outside Max, what do you..." he didn't let her finish her sentence, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her fiercely. Liz was so shocked by his passion that she didn't react, then she thought that that was her last chance to ever kiss him and she kissed him back.
They let their feelings overwhelming them, Max was holding her tight like if he couldn't let her go "Liz, don't go, please, i want you....i didn't know how much i liked you, stay with me....I want you babe" he said huskily, his eyes dark with desire and something else that Liz didn't find the meaning.
"Max, did you drink something before you came? You're are with Tess, don't you remember? Tess, your fabulous girlfriend!" she said with a sad smile.
Even if she was winning tonight, Liz was feeling sad, very sad, cause she loved that man and because his stupidity she was leaving him, her family, her friends, her life. And the anger took the place of the sadness. She pushed him away and stayed her fists on the hips " How dare you Max, you laughed at me with her, you said that i was jealous of her and now you come to tell me to stay with you? As what? What i am for you now, Max? I couldn't be your best friend anymore, i'm sure you're understanding why....i couldn't be your girlfriend, you have already one,Tess! Where do you think my place could be Max? Could you tell me?" she was furious, so furious that she didn't pay attention that all her best friends were behind the door looking at them.
"Liz, i'm sorry...i didn't want to hurt you, i'm regretting what i said. Of course you're not jealous of Tess, how could you, you're so amazing Liz, a million more than Tess could ever be...I don't want you to leave me Liz, i'm nothing without you...I'm begging Liz....forgive me and stay with me" he pleaded at the edge of the tears.
"I can't Max....It's too late, you hurt me and i need time to forgive you....YEARS! That's why i'm leaving tomorrow, to forget you and your little bitch. But i'm leaving happy, you've seen the real Liz, and you're feeling desire for me...That's all what i wanted." she said laughing.
"What do you mean? Did you plan to make me fall and laugh at me? That's your revenge?" he said deeply hurt
"I've wanted to give a little lesson for you to understand how you feel when someone hurt you, someone important for you of course. I'm sorry if you're suffering, are you?" she questionned and a look in Max's eyes showed her that she reached her purpose.
"You won Liz, i'm leaving. I don't need to endure more from you, i wish to find the happyness overthere, and to find the oblivion and the forgiveness. I didn't know that i had hurt you that much, i'm sorry, i never meant to make you suffering Liz, i'm sorry if my crasyness has hurt you. I love you." he said and he left.

Liz stayed there completely shocked "i love you" he said...Why now? It was too late. And she stayed there crying.

Chapter 9

After Max left, Liz stayed outside crying. He said that he loved her, after all what he said...after all what he did... he kissed her tonight and ended to acknowledge that he loved her...despite the tears, Liz began to laugh... louder as if she wanted to him to hear her laugh....but he's gone. She cried again thinking about her life completely turned upside down and sobbed even stronger. After a while she felt a hand on her shoulder, looking up she saw Maria beside her.
"Liz..it's over, he's gone. Come with us inside, you're going to get cold." she said taking her arm to make her enter in the Crashdown.
"Maria...he said he loved me...he kissed me saying that he wanted me, that i was a million more amazing than Tess could ever be....Why??? Why did he say that now? Now that everything is ready and i'm leaving tomorrow...Do you think he said that to make me suffer, or to laugh at me once again...do you..." she wanted to question her but Maria stopped her.
"Liz..Liz...Stop that! ok? You're going to get sick if you continue to hurt yourself. Stop, do you hear me STOP!" she yelled. "Ok..but..."
"No BUT, Liz....Come with me inside, look everyone is here for you." she said trying to sooth her.

Liz looked up and saw all her friends behind the Crashdown door staring at her with a worried look on their faces. "Maria, i don't want to return there." she said trying to pull her friend.
"Come on Liz, that's your party, you're leaving tomorrow....Come on, i'm sure everybody's wondering where you are."
"I don't care! I can't enjoy a party since my heart is broken...i can't Maria" she said crying again

Maria sent a sign to Michael for him to come and help her, she knew that she won't be able to make Liz entering in the diner. When he arrived beside them "Liz, honey, come with us. It's your last night with your friends and we tried to settle a great party, you have no right to give up now. You know that we love you.." he said softly
Hearing Michael talking about love, Liz remembered Max's last words: he had said that he loved her too. Reminding that made her sobbing even more.
Michael took her in his strong arms, turned round and went to the ladder, thinking that the best thing to do is leading Liz in her room to refresh and after that she will be able to join the party again.
"Michael, where are you going with Liz?" Maria asked scaring that her boyfriend could carry Liz in the middle of the diner in front of everyone.
"The best place is her room, i'm going there, come with me, you'll help her to refresh." he explained
"Good idea...Poor Liz, she was so beautiful! and that asshole ruined everything" she said angry.

Hidden in Michael's arms, Liz answered "He didn't ruin everything, Maria...We did it together Max and i, restraining our real feelings, we lost the chance to be together. Michael did as she said but kept her in his arms to be sure that she was ok. He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes "Liz, tomorrow you're leaving for Harvard, i'm sure you know the chance you have to attend such a great university, even if you're sad to leave us here in New Mexico. Go there, enjoy your life and come back to us. Your story with Max, for the moment, forget it. You're right Michael, i'm going to work hard to succeed, overthere, and come back to you. Or maybe, you'll change your mind and you'll come to join me you, Maria, Alex...that'll be another dream come true" she said with a little smile. She hugged Michael and then Maria "Thank you, both of you, to support me, i love you".
"We love you too, Liz, don't forget that, never!" Maria said kissing her. "Michael, go to the Crashdown to reassure the others, we'll be back in a while with Liz, ok?"
While Michael entered in the diner to join the others, Maria led Liz to the ladder.
