Summery: Liz is now six months pregnant with the twins and trying to live her life in Roswell after the fallout between her, Max and Tess.
Part 1
‘So I had a really nice time’ he hears the male voice tell her as he sits on the top of the stairs. He knows he shouldn’t be watching or listening but he cant force himself not to.
‘Yeah me too’ she replies and he can imagine the smile that she has on her face as she says it too, because it’s the way she used to smile at him when he would drop her off after a date. It’s also the same smile he has seen on her face for the past two weeks as he watched her when she had been dropped home from her dates and he cant help but wonder if he’ll ever be offered a smile like that from her again.
‘So do you have anything planned this weekend?’ he asks her hopefully.
‘Oh well I actually have to go shopping, so far I having nothing for the babies and believe me they need a lot’ she tells him her hand automatically going to her stomach where their growing children are.
‘Oh well maybe I could take you?’ he hears him suggest, he wants to stand up and stomp down the stairs to inform him that it wouldn’t be necessary but he remains seated and listens for her response with bated breath.
‘Oh well thanks for the offer but Max and I are actually going together’ she answers.
‘Oh, where is he anyway?’ he can hear the dislike dripping in his voice but he ignores it, it wasn’t like he cared what he thought of him anyway,
He watches at Liz shrugs ‘His car is outside so he’s upstairs I guess’ she tells him.
‘So I guess I’m not coming in then’ he sighs in annoyance.
‘Kyle’ he hears her sigh.
‘I’m sorry I just don’t understand why you let him move in here with you’ he sighs.
‘You know why’ she answers ‘because in a few months we’re going to be parents’
‘Yeah I get that but I don’t see why he needs to be living with you to be a father’
‘Kyle, this isn’t an ordinary pregnancy’ she reminds him ‘not only am I going to be giving birth to twins, I’m giving birth at home and the twins will be the first alien babies born, which means that we have absolutely no idea what to expect. Max needs to be here in case anything happens and incase I need him’ Max feels his heart soar when he hears Liz acknowledge that she stills needs him because it certainly hadn’t felt that way for quite a while.
The truth was Liz Parker was sick of explaining herself to everyone. Over the past six months it had been an endless round of questions until she had begged her friends and family to back off. She had expected it at first, everyone in the group wanting to know what she was going to do now that she was pregnant and Queen, was she going to give Max a second chance.
Obviously it had been a completely different story when she had told her parents three months later. Max’s parents had been a piece of cake considering they already knew the alien details but neither set of parents was proud of their children. Her father had ranted and raved for hours about how irresponsible it was to get involved with a married man and even worse to get herself knocked up, he had even take a shot at Max which had luckily missed. In the end though they had chosen to accept the fact that they were going to be grandparents sooner rather than later but her father still wouldn’t talk to Max or serve him if he came into the restaurant.
‘So what about after their born?’ he continues to push her.
‘Kyle, please don’t do this’ he hears her beg him.
‘Don’t do what Liz?’ Kyle asks her ‘is it so wrong that I don’t like the thought of my girlfriend living with her ex-boyfriend, the soon to be father of her children?’ he snaps. Max cant help but smile at Kyle’s comment because Kyle should be worried.
‘Yes’ Liz cries. ‘Yes it is because this isn’t an ordinary situation and it never will be which is why I didn’t want do get involved with you like this in the first place, I’m going to be a mother Kyle I cant be someone’s girlfriend’
Silence follows Liz’s outburst even Max is surprised. It wasn’t news to him that Kyle Valenti hated him or that he hated the fact that Liz had opened her house to him but Max couldn’t bring himself to care. He didn’t like the fact that Kyle was dating his soul mate, or that his one time friend seemed fixated on taking his place in Liz’s life along with his role as father to his children.
‘Look Kyle I’ve really enjoyed the past couple of months, it’s been fun but I cant keep doing this’ she sighed.
‘What are you saying?’ Kyle asked her, alarmed and confused all at the same time.
‘I’m saying that I can’t keep defending myself and my decisions’ she told him ‘or Max’ she whispers the last part.
‘I just don’t get it Liz’ Kyle replies ‘it doesn’t matter what he does you just cant let him go’ the anguish in his voice at what is about to happen is more than obvious to Max from him place at the top of the stairs, and his heart hurts for what he knows Liz is about to do and how much it is going to hurt her.
‘Your not supposed to get it Kyle’ Liz tells him. ‘Because it isn’t about you’ she finishes.
Kyle only nods at her cryptic reply ‘Can I call you?’ he asks then.
‘Of course you can’ she answers him surprising the three of them ‘I mean like I said I always have fun with you’ she smiles.
He steps forward then and Max has to close his eyes as he watches his Liz respond to the kiss from the other man. It isn’t passionate or suggestive nor does it last very long but it signifies the one thing that Max was desperately fighting against. He had been hanging on with everything he could for the last six months even when she started dating Kyle in the first place but that one kiss tells him more than a thousand words can. Liz Parker was moving on without him.
He gets up from his spot on the stairs feeling defeated and quietly and heads into his room closing the door softly behind him never alerting Liz that he was there.

Liz sighed and threw her bag down on the couch as she walks into her living room. She had started dating Kyle about three months ago after fighting off his calls and flirting for three months before that. She hadn’t been ready to start dating anyone at that stage and as she fell into the safety of her couch she questioned her decision again about dating him now. Kyle was a great guy, just like he had been in high school except that now he was much more laid back, but still fun nonetheless. Dating him had certainly been interesting so far, but what she hadn’t bargained on was forgetting what it was like to be involved with someone.
Sure she had dated over the ten years that she had been away from Roswell but it had never been serious because she had always competed everyone to Max, after a few dates she would give the guy the brush off, or they wouldn’t call her when they realised she wasnt going to give them what they were looking for. But Kyle had her figured out and every move she made to put distance between them he was waiting with a better move.
Liz forgot that boyfriends wanted to be involved in all aspects of your life, she forgot that they thought important decisions should be discussed even when said decisions had nothing to do with the other person. That was why she found herself having the same conversation with Kyle now for the past two weeks.
About Max.
He was always at the roots of all her problems but this time he wasn’t there on purpose and she couldn’t be angry with him because of it.
Two Weeks Ago
Liz was getting out of her SUV awkwardly in the teachers carpark at West Roswell High when Max pulled up in his black jeep next to her and smiled. They had formed a tentative friendship over the past six months and Liz couldn’t deny that she liked seeing sighs on the old Max that she remembered from when she was sixteen. It had been hard at first, after that day in the granolith chamber and she still remembered so clearly listening to Max tell her that he was coming for her and the feelings it had caused to course through her body but eventually she had pushed it aside.
‘Hey’ He smiled as he rushed around the car to help her out.
‘Hey’ she smiled back.
‘You know your not going to be able to drive soon’ he told her as he placed a hand over her stomach and formed a connection with his children and Liz to wish them a good morning.
‘I know’ Liz sighed ‘I won’t be able to do much at all soon’
‘Well there is only a few more weeks to the end of semester and then you’ll be finishing up’ he reminded her.
Liz smiled at him and then for the first time noticed that his vehicle was full of boxes.
‘What’s with the boxes?’ she couldn’t help but ask.
Max sighed as he ran a hand though his spiky hair ‘my stuff’ he told her.
Liz looked at him confused, he had moved out of Tess’s and back in with his parents right after the day at the granolith chamber.
‘Yeah I can see that’ Liz laughed ‘Where are you taking it?’ she asked him.
‘Yeah good question’ he laughed ‘I’m not sure yet I just know that I can’t stay another night at my parents’
‘What happened?’ Liz asked him concerned. Things with his parents especially his mother had been difficult since his break up with Tess. Diane Evans had been bitterly disappointed in her son’s behavior and for some reason felt the need to remind him of it often. Also, she had decided to take it upon herself to take Tess under her wing as well, saying that everyone deserved a second chance. Liz knew that things were awkward and that his mother had set him up by inviting Tess over so they could talk on numerous occasions.
‘Oh you know just the usual, dinner with the ex-wife from hell’ he shrugged. Liz couldn’t help but laugh at the name Max had started using to refer to Tess. Unfortunetely though it was completely accurate, but that was a story for another time.
‘She didn’t?’ Liz asked shocked. Liz couldn’t understand why Dianne would continue to do that to Max after everything he had told them, and especially since Liz was pregnant with Max’s children.
‘Yep so that was it. I packed everything up and split’ he explained.
‘So where are you going to go?’ she asked him.
‘I was going to ask either Iz or Michael if I could crash on the lounge until I can find a place’ he answered.
Liz bit her lip thinking the situation over. Sure her and Max had a history, a bad one at that but Liz had a huge house with plenty of room and it certainly would come in handy having Max around during the last part of her pregnancy, as well as when the twins arrived. Max had expressed on numerous occasions quietly that he was disappointed he couldn’t share more of her pregnancy.
‘You could move in with me’ she suggested.
‘What?’ Max asked her, shocked.
‘I said you could move in with me’ she smiled ‘I mean think about it. You could be there for the last part of the pregnancy in case anything weird happens and then you would be there when the twins were born, you wouldn’t have to miss out on anything else’ she told him excitedly. She had never thought about the trouble it would cause her when she had opened her mouth and suggested it though.
‘Really?’ he had asked.
‘Yeah’
Without a word he crushed her small frame to his body in a hug as best he could considering the size of her stomach.
‘Thank you’ he whispered.
