Prologue:
Ten Years Previously
The twenty strong unit glanced around the “room”. It was more a prison cell that held them captive, with no way out.
Only a week before, their brother Jack had been taken away, and it seemed unlikely that he was still alive and within the walls of Manticore. He was probably in pieces being researched, so that the scientists that were whipping the transgenics could see what had caused the seizures.
Suddenly one of the young girls began to shudder violently. When the eldest looking boy tried to calm her, she shook harder. This alerted the guards, who promptly came in to take the young child away. However, they were attacked viciously by the rest of the children within the room and were knocked unconscious.
The escape had begun…

They were out. Admittedly, some stayed behind, somewhere stopped in their fight to freedom. Twelve met at the allotted safe point; so eight had failed in their escape. Not far from the small unit, unnoticed even with their superior sight, was the body of one such victim.
The young girl whom had had the fit that triggered the escape stood, leaning upon the boy. She spoke up.
“We did everyone. Not all of us got out, but no more designations. No more Pys-Ops. We had best get moving everyone. Wouldn’t want to be caught moments after leaving would we? But, what do you think Zack?”
The young boy who was holding her up nodded to acknowledge he had been spoken to. “Divide and scatter. Who knows? Maybe they catch a few of us, but some of us will get away all right. Maybe one day, there will be a place for us to meet again.”
Nodding, the unit of twelve ran, blurring away from the only place they could recognise as home. Whatever that meant.

Four transgenic that had been part of Max and Zack’s unit also escaped that night, but in the confusion, were split from the rest. The stood, cold and frightened; no one around to order them or guide them on the path.
“Zack said to split. I think we should do that.” The young blond girl tried to reason. She always admired Zack, the CO of the unit, and tried her hardest to follow his orders.
“No. It’s too dangerous right now. We stick together.” The elder of two boys spoke.
“Then let’s run. We stay here; we’re going to end up like Eva.”
With the little debate over, the four fled. And they dashed southward, staying away from the main roads, so they could not be found. Until they ended up on route 285. Then, they split; each being found by a loving couple.
And there they stayed, faking memories for nine years, slowly drifting apart…
